Data analysis
One main takeaway from the data analysis was exploring the impact of hashtags, location pins, and captions, and how these digital writing tools helped content reach the intended audience. This understanding will help me in module 5 when I’m analyzing other creator’s content, and the tools they use to reach their intended audience. I’m also curious to learn additional tools creators use that I may not be aware of yet.

Thursday Check-In!
Reading the assignment prompt, I am excited to start working on it! One question I had was do we have to do the types of accounts that are listed or are those just examples? This is the list I am talking about:
3 Youtube accounts that create videos for teachers
3 Twitter accounts that tweet writing prompts
3 Instagram accounts that post cat pictures
Thanks for your help!

The Everlasting Influence of #MeToo: From Online Hashtag to Real-World Change
Introduction:
Social media movements, the phenomena that are redefining contemporary activism, find their roots not in the digital world but in the lived experiences of individuals. They originate in the offline spaces, the daily lives of ordinary people who are driven by the need to stand up for what is just and right. These movements are deeply entwined with social and political activism and serve as platforms for the disenfranchised and marginalized to have a voice.
Tumblr media
However, the trajectory of social media movements, as impactful as they may seem in the digital realm, often faces criticisms of "clicktivism" and "slacktivism." These terms reflect the concern that online participation might lack real-world impact. To truly understand the influence of social media movements, it's essential to recognize the synergy between online and offline spaces, where the most successful movements thrive and endure.

The #MeToo Movement: A Case Study:
A prominent example of a social media movement that has transcended both online and offline spaces is the #MeToo movement. It is a testament to the fact that these movements do not begin with hashtags but with the earnest efforts of individuals who strive to bring about change. The #MeToo movement originated in 2006, created by social activist Tarana Burke. Burke's vision was to create a movement that empowers survivors of sexual violence, particularly young women of color in underprivileged communities. She coined the phrase "Me Too" to symbolize empowerment through empathy, laying the foundation for a movement against sexual abuse.
The movement remained largely under the radar for over a decade until 2017, when actress Alyssa Milano shared her personal experience of sexual abuse on Twitter using the hashtag #MeToo. Her call to action resonated with countless others, encouraging them to share their own stories. The hashtag quickly spread across Twitter, being used 1.7 million times in 85 countries. It received support from numerous female celebrities who echoed the message of "Me Too."
The Symbiosis of Online and Offline Spaces:
While the #MeToo movement gained immense traction online and earned recognition as a global digital campaign, its impact was not confined to the digital sphere. It transcended into the physical world, sparking campaigns against sexual violence across various industries, including film, music, politics, education, sports, military, and medicine. The movement prompted legislative and legal actions, such as the Me Too Congress Act, and led to convictions of rapists and sexual abusers, especially those who held positions of significant power in society. One of the most notable outcomes was the conviction and downfall of Harvey Weinstein, a former film producer who had enjoyed a position of authority. The #MeToo movement mobilized diverse groups, including celebrities, activists, survivors of sexual abuse, and everyday citizens. It spanned multiple spaces and platforms, from social media to workplaces, red carpet events, and courtrooms. The movement leveraged social media for awareness, and this digital presence spurred real-world efforts against sexual violence.
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
Social media movements are not born with hashtags but with the dedication of individuals determined to champion social justice. The #MeToo movement exemplifies how social media can amplify voices that have been silenced and ignored, providing survivors of sexual violence with the power to share their stories. While hashtags are crucial for mobilizing these movements online, it's essential to acknowledge the pioneering work of activists like Tarana Burke, who laid the groundwork long before hashtags began trending. Social media movements thrive when they bridge the gap between digital and physical spaces, forging lasting change in an increasingly connected world.
The #MeToo movement illustrates that social media movements are more than mere hashtags; they are driven by individuals committed to societal change. This movement, initiated by Tarana Burke in 2006, showcases how real-world impact transcends the digital realm. By sparking campaigns against sexual violence, inspiring legislative changes, and leading to high-profile convictions, it demonstrates the tangible influence of social media movements. Their continued relevance underlines the significance of bridging the gap between online and offline spaces. Social media movements amplify silenced voices and exemplify that true change begins with dedicated individuals.

Using my audience analysis skills, I notice we have shared interests discussing writing. Majority of us are most likely Generation Z, I assume this because of my knowledge of majority of college students, and also we all communicate in similar ways which is usually a telling sign of a generation.

How I'm Choosing
When it comes to my account choices, my goal is to not use any of the youtubers I discussed previously. While I tend to watch the same people, I want to have some variety in my analysis. I think that I will use more comedy focused youtubers, but I may end up using drama/news reporting channels as they upload much more frequently. I will still use youtubers that I am familiar with, but probably none of my absolute favorites (I agree with the oversaturation of the creator and do not want to grow tired of the content I typically watch).

Audience Analysis
The audience of our Tumblr hashtag are Millersville University students who are currently taking web writing. We are from a range of majors, as this is an advanced writing course, required for all students. The audience interacts with posts to provide feedback on peer revision requests or to reblog and comment. The content and interactions are required in this course, so the audience is not voluntarily posting. However, they do have the option to choose from multiple prompts and peer posts to respond to.

AHHHH GUYS, YOU SCARED ME!
This weeks prompt, was created to see a different side of the models. Whether it be embracing their fears or learning about new phobias! This week we wanted to see the element of fear through the story but mainly the choice of edit, how the models display this fear.
Now onto the results!

Some say that it’s not the dark itself that people are afraid of, but what’s hiding in the dark. But not that’s not necessarily true for some with nyctophobia. To them, the dark itself is an entity worthy of fear. It’s suffocating; it’s lonely; if you were to be dying quietly in the dark, who would know? And who knows if the light will ever come back? In a place with no lights and no windows, the dark feels like it’s alive around you. Ready to slip its spidery fingers around your neck and down your throat; holding tight to you as the life slowly slips out with the last vestiges of light. Yes, that’s right. Darkness is not just an absence of light. If you listen carefully, you can hear it breathe. It’s just biding its time until your light is gone.

Ember: "For this week's prompt of Fear, I wanted to express not one, but two fears of mine. The first, is a fear of being used by somebody else and losing control of my own agency - like a puppet on string helpless to control my next move. I value my independence and agency very much, so the idea of losing it is a terrifying concept to me indeed. The second, is, well: people. Supernatural horror can be disturbing of course, but what really chills me are the people who can bring themselves to cause others harm - be it murder, abuse or assault. My look for the second concept is also based off an urban legend that I heard as a kid: Olive Spectre, a black widow known for murdering her husbands. lovers and even courting the grim reaper!"

Hemophobia is the fear of blood, Sanguivoriphobia is the fear of vampires. But I have a question; What the hell do you call a vampire with hemophobia? Better yet, what do you call a vampire that is so disgusted by blood that he's vegan? These are genuine questions that keep me up at night. When I was in high school, I had to work a blood drive for extra credit. I was supposed to log each bag of blood we got and take it to the truck. I dropped one of the crates, and the bags exploded like a bloody volcano. The rest of that's been pretty much blocked from my memory, but I'm willing to bet that's why I'm the way I am. As much as I hate blood and want to hurl at the sheer thought of it, these days, I don't have a lot of time to process it as much. Not with the trail of bodies I have chasing me. But hell, I feel like this isn't even the most contradictory thing about me.

Dillion Carter by @mewo-ita
Tumblr media
Idea: Scopophobia (The fear of being seen in public or stared at by others; partly inspired by Omori.) The fall was an accident, or at least that’s what he told himself. The blank stares pierced his bones with an icy stab and made his hands tremble. The past few years was spent hidden in his apartment with inescapable fear; the rugged man constantly recollecting what had happened in his teen years. A rebellious student in his class named Dillion who had continuously rejected his advances— he had “accidentally” pushed them down steep stairs; their neck broke on impact. The image burned into memory of lifeless eyes staring back at him as he fled. No one connected him to the scene so he was free, but whenever in public from then on, a gaze was stabbing daggers into his back. Every night, whenever he habitually looks out of the peephole to see if the torment is finally over, he can see Dillion scrutinizing him with no emotion. Just staring. Whenever he attempted to leave or confront them, his limbs shook and crumbled under him. He was pathetic. All he can see every second is eyes. Their eyes…

Original Content Writing (Week 6)
"Data analysis - What did you learn about data analysis from the Module 3 data analysis practice project? How will that help you in module 4?"
I learned that data analysis is hard. Genuinely, the practice of collecting, sampling, and analyzing different aspects of data from social media posts, to come up with answers to questions that require a deep dive into the minds of every person who participates in web writing and online culture, is difficult. It requires a lot of time, patience, critical thinking, and pre-existing knowledge of concepts that involve how the average user interacts with the digital space and the physical technology they use to interact with that space. Considering the "whats" of everything, the "whys" of everything, the "hows" of everything, and then coming up with a research question, that I need to find an answer to myself, is quite challenging for me.
Being able to reasonably assume why a person interacts with a space, why they interact with a post in that context, how they know to navigate the space/post, why they know to navigate, why the content creator creates their content, how they create their content, what they expect the audience to know, what they expect the audience to do, why they expect the audience to know what they know and do, what the audience expects the content creator to know, what the audience expects the content creator to do, why the audience expects the content creator to know and do what they do, what makes analyzing these things important, and seemingly an infinite number of other questions that need answers, is all very overwhelming.
So, starting sooner rather than later is always more beneficial, as it would have been for me to do for the past practice project, and as it will be for me to do for the current official project, as well as for any other assignment or project that requires this level of skill and knowledge of the spaces and contexts being evaluated/analyzed. I know for certain that this project is going to be difficult for me, but I'm going to try my best nonetheless.

Original Post #3: Data Analysis
- What did you learn about data analysis from the Module 4 data analysis practice project? How will that help you in Module 5?
During Module 4, I learned more about how to organize the data I’ve collected. I feel like I was able to pull lots of audience metrics from my data and the ways I use my social media accounts. However, I still have more to improve upon when referencing specific metrics in my writing and using them to support my ideas. During Module 5, I plan on keeping with the organization I used for Module 4. I loved having it in a chart format because I could easily compare the posts I chose. Module 5 will be trickier because I am following three accounts rather than just one, but I can expand my chart to include all three or make three separate charts and compile them all into one document. I am looking forward to learning more about data collection and analysis not just from the textbook but also from my classmates as well!

Original Content Writing #3
User experience analysis - who are we as users of tumblr?
I believe the best way to describe us as user of Tumblr is creative expressionists. For every post, I have to think outside of the box. And that is the most important part of being creative. There is no such thing as a simple/one sided answer, every question can have multiple answers and causes you to use higher order thinker skills. We also are required to be creative when re-blogging because we pick whatever responses we can most connect to.

How I’m narrowing my account choices
I’m narrowing my choices by considering content creators that I have an understanding of their content already, while not being a creator I intensely follow. I also am considering creators whose content I have some interest in as that will make data collection more intriguing.
As a result, I decided on TikTok accounts that post “GRWM” (get ready with me). I’ve always been so curious why these creators get so popular over this long-lasting trend.

how are you narrowing your account choices? Walk us through your process of selection
One thing I am keeping in mind is that the accounts should be engaging while not being my absolute favorite accounts. I am looking at accounts that I am moderately interested in, such as accounts following Magic the Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, and a few gaming accounts. I am also looking at accounts that I do not already follow, so as to not get tired of them!

My 'go-to' video content. :)
Dan and Phil games is my go-to video content right now. I loveddd Dan and Phil since I was in middle school. Dan and Phil Games went on a hiatus for a while (like 5 years), but they came back this past October and since then I have been watching every single video they upload. Dan and Phil are hilarious and watching them again makes me nostalgic and comforted.

Original content #1
I am narrowing my account choices by paying attention to creators I find myself going back to often, and also people who post consistently. I think consistent posting is important since it helps me analyze their content and understand what their intentions may be. I also am looking at creators I find interesting solely because I know if I don't find the creator engaging I will have a hard time following.

Thursday Check-in Week 6
Tumblr media
I'm working at a better pace now. I've just finished all of my posts from this week and I almost have everything done from last week. I would just like to ask, what should we be looking for while researching each account? I'm looking into 3 different youtube channels that review the latest commercial technology (phones, laptops, vision pros, etc.). What do we want to specifically look for within their content? Are we just looking at data or are we taking a look at how their content is curated as well? I’m just trying to make sure I’m on the right track with this project and this may help with generating ideas.
