My reactions to Evangelion, episode 15: Lies and Silence

Before I begin, I was thinking about it this morning and I'm wondering if NERV is indeed trying to bring on the apocalypse (and to create an Eden for fetus Adam to live in) and the Angels are in fact the good guys trying to stop them. There's a lot of talk about saving humanity but it kind of seems to me like the second impact was due to humans killing an Angel, who then exploded? It makes me wonder what kind of research they were doing on that Arctic base (Antarctic?) Idk, but to me it seems like humanity as a whole has not been in danger from the Angels: it's just NERV. But I'm also kind of hung up on the Instrumentality part of the Human Instrumentality project. Instrumental for what?

Anyway, I'll keep wondering on it, but I'm going to start the episode.

"Every project is interlinked"

is the first time we're hearing about the Marduk institute?

Oh, okay. So it sounds like the Human Instrumentality project is about trying to find kids to pilot the Evangelions. That makes sense. They are the instruments in piloting the Evas. So perhaps Adam has been genetically engineered to be the perfect pilot.

Asuka! Oh my gosh! Girl who cried wolf!

Shinji has been preoccupied with Rei since that thing happened in Unit 0, maybe?

Asking Rei for advice on how to talk to his own dad. Poor kid

He's comparing Rei to a mother. IS SHE A CLONE OF HIS MOTHER. Also, he's so awkward.

Or maybe she's a robot with his mother's personality inside. Oooooooh.

When Asuka asked to borrow Misato's lavender perfume my first thought was of Love Spell.

Oh, he's going to see his mother tomorrow! She's alive and also apparently negligent.

I'm chuckling because my first thought on seeing Kaji was, "You couldn't even shave for your friend's wedding?" and then Misato got on him for the same thing lol.

Nope, his mom is actually dead.

That's a very stark cemetery.

So he can't remember her face, there are no photographs that exist, the grave is just a facade... So mysterious.

"I see." What an ass.

I didn't know Shinji played an instrument! And so beautifully!

Shinji is so sweet and positive. I just love him so much.

Ritsuko's comment on transistasis and homeostasis has me thinking about the potential that NERV is trying to force human evolution. Perhaps they want to create a symbiotic relationship with the Evas? I don't know about that... Trying to evolve them to be compatible with technology? Space travel? Is the planet doomed?

Kaji is such a smooth talker.

Yeah, kiss her. That'll shut her up.

Asuka, Jesus Christ. Mocking Shinji about his dead mom to bully him into kissing you. Girl, please.

I wonder if Asuka realizing Misato and Kaji have a thing is going to interfere with her ability to complete her next mission.

There's the central dogma! Rei's in a tube hooked up to what looks like a metal brain.

Okay, so I'm thinking about how when Shinji was in Unit 0 he was like, "Oh, it's Rei. Wait, that's not-" and then creepy Rei looked up at him and jumped towards him and that is when Unit 0 flipped out and started trying to get to the real Rei. So I am thinking there are perhaps multiple people inside Rei (this is also influenced by the fact that when I was looking up to see if ep. 14 was a recap episode I saw it mentioned that Rei is schizophrenic. However, I'm not sure I believe she's actually schizophrenic. I kind of think she is actually harboring another person and that it's Shinji's mother.)

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH ADAM IS THE FIRST ANGEL?

I had kind of wondered if there was an Angel inside the facility. I had initally assumed there would be one kept top secretly but they kept saying how they needed to catch one for research so I was like, "Oh, maybe not, but that's weird that they wouldn't have on after all this time." Especially with everything they seem to know about them. I figured it had to be they either created them or were studying them.

I'm so excited! Mysteries are starting to come to light!

Okay, let me see if I can organize my current theories:

Rei might be an imprint Shinji's mother - possibly she's an android, possibly just a person with an especially impressionable brain. But I think that there's Rei the girl and then also the additional personality/ies if this is the case.

NERV is going to perhaps force human evolution using genetic engineering. Or, they might be planning an apocalypse. The Angels may be trying to stop this from happening. I really have no idea.

I just considered that given the ages of the children and the timeline of the second impact, is it possible that children who were in-utero/ conceived around or after that time have some kind of Angel influence within their DNA? Like some kind of radiation? Could this be why only kids can operate the Evas? Are Angels neccessary for the next phase of whatever NERV has planned?

I feel like there's more but I want to hurry up and get to the next episode, so bye.

Iirc i read somewhere that this episode was made when a lot of negative climate focussed media was coming out and rtd wanted to assure young viewers that there was always hope? Not sure where i saw it but it’s stuck with me

10. Jabe’s device is unable to identify a timelord, probably because the rest of the universe thinks them dead? Although her reaction is very different from that of the Nestene Consciousness (who is implied to have lost quite a bit in the Time War), whereas Jabe doesn’t seem to have any personal connection. I wonder what the other outsider perceptions of the War were!

11. Ahhh Rose being kind to the plumber. I love my girl. LMAO at her realising she just hitched a ride with a complete stranger w/o thinking about it. The metal spiders are very Minority Report.

12. Your machine gets inside my head. It gets inside and it changes my mind, and you didn't even ask? the WRITING. Just chef’s kiss. Even in this sort of power dynamic, you never ever feel like Rose doesn’t have agency. She’s so smart and capable and fierce. i love her.

17. I was born on that planet, and so was my mum, and so was my dad. I love how much Rose loves her dad. Like if you’ve never even known a parent, you probably wouldn’t bring them up in a context like this, but the addition implies that Rose thinks of her dad quite a bit, and this is a nice little subtle setup to my favourite episode of the season, Father’s Day

18. The sun filter scene! It’s unexpectedly tense. I remember being really worried the first time I saw it

24. The Earth death scene is beautiful. I remember feeling so sad that everyone just missed it! And the Doctor finally realising that maybe this wasn’t a great first trip for his young companion xD

25. I'm left travelling on my own 'cos there's no one else.---There's me. What a beautiful moment of intimacy. And such great acting! The Doctor is finally beginning to let her in, and Rose has attached to this stranger so quickly, despite how prickly and condescending he can be. Soulmates <3

Chenford REWIND - Lucy Chen / Tim Bradford - The Rookie - Season 2 Ep 14

"Casualties" AKA Who Let the Dog Out!?

This one came in as a request, and it's a great one. I can't believe I hadn't gotten to it, yet! There's some really beautiful stuff in here for both Tim and Lucy, even if nothing's quite romantic for Chenford at this phase of their relationship. We are inching toward friendship, and very nearly there, in my humble opinion.

SPOILER ALERT: If you're looking for a spoiler-free place, this ain't it. I do try to write these without using foreknowledge of what happens beyond the episode, but I absolutely spoil everything in it and reference everything that came before.

"Yeah, dogs are super helpful for trauma recovery."

Lucy has gone through her list of all the things that could help her work through her trauma. Before she even got back to work, she'd worked through more than most.

It's a very... logical way of working through. Fed by her mother's influence and her own studies, Lucy tried to talk herself through trauma. It was enough to get her cleared at work, but we all know it's still there. Trauma doesn't just go away because you go through enough exercises.

Trauma lives in the pit of your stomach, the center of your soul, the deep recesses of your mind. You can't dislodge it. But you can learn how to heal and live with it.

Lucy looking for a therapy dog and jumping straight in is a way outta left field decision. But, I think it's consistent with Lucy's personality, funny enough. She doesn't tend to hang back and wait for life to happen. If she wants something, she's confident enough to go after it.

You might be wondering why is it different with Tim? I mean, Season 2 era Lucy is nowhere near ready to jump Tim's bones. They're building their friendship, and finding their way.

This isn't "two people meet and hit it off". This is "two people meet and want to hit a wall".

Lucy and Tim don't start off as enemies, but they do start off with Tim in the role of antagonist. He's the source of a lot of Lucy's frustrations and struggles early in her career. And while Lucy is a good person who sees the good in people (even Tim), he's not to a point where he'd be open enough to trust her with all of it.

We're getting there. And this episode shows a lot of growth on that front. But the relationship that Tim and Lucy will build is so important. They battled one another and the world to build it. They fought each other and the fire. They had to come through hit after hit after hit together.

The armor Tim wears so loudly will eventually clatter and clang to the floor in Lucy's presence. We can see it coming. But Lucy won't be tearing it off of him. It'll fall as Tim releases it.

Lucy doesn't yet want Tim. So, she's not going after him. And if the day comes when she does want him, it'll be a completely different entry to a romantic relationship from any she's ever had before. At no stage in their relationship is this like anything Lucy's had before. And the same for Tim.

That's what makes it so damn special.

Lucy's not ready for Tim, and he sure as hell isn't ready for her. But, in the meantime, some not-thinking-it-through part of Lucy thinks she's ready for a puppy.

"Before I get started with the morning's business, I want to thank everyone, again, for all their hard work on the Rosalind Dyer case."

Tim's jaw clenches and he glances Lucy's way. He's not going to make a big show in Roll Call, but that's just enough for us to know he's thinking of Lucy.

"That was a... difficult time."

Lucy doesn't want the attention. Remember how she didn't want to be applauded when she came back the first day? She doesn't want the reminder. It's still really fresh, and she likes to think she's moved past it.

We all know that she is still working through, but Lucy wants to be "back to normal" with everything in her.

"Getting a dog is a big mistake." "I don't remember asking you." "Well, tough. It's my job to train you how to succeed. And adding a dependent is only going to distract you."

We've come a long way from Tim saying that scaring Rookies off was his job. He really wants Lucy to succeed. He wants her to do well. He knows how tough she is. He just has to help her fully get her bearings as a cop before she's on her own.

And while a dog technically falls into her personal life (which we do not discuss on-the-job *cough*bullshit*cough*), Tim feels the need to speak up.

"Just face it, you don't like dogs." "Wrong. I love dogs."

So why doesn't he have a dog? Did Isabel not like dogs? Is that why he's a guy who loves dogs, but doesn't have one?

This really bothers me! Like, Tim Bradford should get to have a dog! Talk about another human with some trauma who could really use some snuggles and huggles.

"I just think they're a lot of responsibility, and I'm not sure you're ready for it."

This—being a cop—is the thing she's taken most seriously in her life, right? So, Tim might not be far off. Then again, nobody asked you, suckaah!

Yes, I'm being immature. But, wow, was that statement condescending from Tim.

"But you were when you were my age?" "At your age I'd done two tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, the second in charge of a squad of 10 soldiers." "Show off." "What was that?" "Hm?"

I kinda love her slipping that in, but I also hurt for both of them in this scene. One of those classic, "We don't know each other well enough to know why this hurts" situations.

Lucy is insecure about how long it's taken her to find a path. She thinks Tim is showing off, but he ran to the military to take him away from his father. He dove headlong into his work because he thought it would give him the worth he lacked.

So, neither of them is trying to injure the other. But Lucy feels judged, while Tim's past was never about earning accolades and success. It was about feeling worthy as a human being.

Wow, these two have a lot to unpack in the future.

"I'll be right there." "Right where." "My apartment." "Not unless it's a crime scene."

But. They. Go. Like, I know it's there for comedic detail that we have the POV of the door opening to view the carnage for ourselves. But, there had to have been a conversation between Tim and Lucy where she wore him down enough that they went to her apartment.

Tim could have stuck to his "No", but he didn't. Because he already sees Lucy differently, and he's already making exceptions for her. Now, he can rationalize them away, but she has a special place in his heart.

No, it's not romantic. Tim's not about to make love to her on the wreckage of her couch. But they are quickly becoming friends, and have a special soul-level bond that's developed.

"Sit." "How did you do that?" "Come on."

Tim's "Come on" had me cracking up. I can only think of hearing it one other time in early Season 5. But, I love the confidence that goes along with it.

Tim doesn't believe in himself as a man. He doesn't see his worth as a human. But as a soldier? As a cop? As a TO? That makes sense to him. It's tangible, as he would say.

"This is Jackson's Varsity Jacket. He's gonna be so upset." "I don't really have to say anything, do I?"

Tim. Takes. The. Picture. It's the weirdest love language—taking awkward photos of one another—but it's one they share. And I love that for them.

She doesn't even protest the photo. She knows it's coming.

"Mitch?" "Sarge." "Sarge?"

And this is why we had to remind ourselves about Tim's background at the top of the episode. So this story-line would make sense, and we wouldn't waste time in this scene explaining it. The impact hits harder that way.

Another thing that strikes me is that he and Mitch haven't seen each other in probably a decade. But he remembers his name. I'm terrible with names, myself, so I'm impressed by Tim's memory.

"He doesn't seem to like you very much."

Who does? And I say that with a lot of love, but Tim Bradford's not the cuddly type. Most people don't like Tim.

And, honestly, I didn't notice anything particular out of the ordinary with this one. But, perhaps Lucy expected a better relationship between Tim and his old squad. Tim, however, is ready for hostility.

"I'm the reason he lost his leg."

He blames himself. The same way he blames himself for Caleb. He's "what if-ing" through life, thinking that if he'd just veered left instead of right, it would have been okay. Or it could have been so much worse.

I once watched a fender bender happen in real time about 200 feet away. I briefly got caught up in the backup and was annoyed. I thought, "If only I'd been one minute ahead of schedule, we would have been past this."

Then I realized, if I'd been 30 seconds earlier that could have been me. So, yeah, I could what-if in one direction or the other. But it truly wasn't about me. Other factors were involved.

Tim didn't take Mitch's leg. But, Tim sees every failing as a personal one. It's part of the trauma he still carries.

Also to note, Tim doesn't have to tell her why. But he does. And I think it's because he feels that he failed her once, too. He feels like he almost owes it to her to tell her.

"So that's it. We walk away." "If we're smart." "That's... not a yes."

First off, I love this group. Two Rookies. Two TOs. Tim and Nyla could tell the other two to cut out now, but they don't. These two have proven themselves a number of times. So, though they have more to learn and further to go, they're a part of this.

Also, Nyla's crafty, and I always appreciate that. Her character has a little bit of an edge because of all she's survived. She has her own traumas, but watching her mind work... you can feel she's going places.

"You remember the personal questions they ask you for clearance, right?" "Yeah." *realization* "Maybe you should all... step outside." "Not a chance." "I think you shou-"

Oh, Timmy. In the words of my generation, you're boned.

"Bethesda. Left clavicle. Uh, Lady Marmalade."

He can't look at them, but Lucy is loving that one. Imagine Tim Bradford at the club. It could be the 70's version, but I'm betting it's not, and I'm betting that Lucy's imagining Tim Bradford dancing and having a giggle.

He's actually not a bad dancer, Lucy. Future Rachel knows this, and hopes you will, one day, too.

As for this questions... Guessing Mom was born in Bethesda. First bone he ever broke was Left Clavicle (ouch) and Lady Marmalade is his favorite song. We can roll with that, right?

"Tarantulas. Uh, yeah, it's Xanadu." "Xanadu?"

Afraid of Tarantulas (possibly a childhood fear). And since we know his favorite movie isn't Xanadu based on Season 5 (unless he has two favorites), I'm going to go with the first movie he saw in theaters, maybe?

Yes, if we're saying Tim was born roughly 1980 he was born the year it came out, but I've seen enough infants in the theater in my lifetime of watching movies. Also, 80's babies represent.

And, yes, I know Eric Winter's really a 70's baby. But, I know little-to-nothing about the actor (save the fact that he's mad talented and seems nice), and Tim and I could go get a drink and be sarcastic together.

The Weak Link

Did anyone else wonder how that obviously off-camera conversation went? None of them were surprised that Nolan got the visit.

Like, Nyla or Tim really said, "Nolan, you're the weak link" and he had to say, "Why me!?" Too much of a comedic scene for the tone of this episode, but it had me rolling thinking about it.

"We can follow him wherever he goes." "Great. Let's hit the road." "No, this is a two-person job. Harper and I got it from here." "Uh, screw that. You go. We go."

Cute. Real cute, Tim. But there's no way you're cutting Lucy Chen out of this mission.

"That's admirable, really. But if this thing goes sideways, we could face demotion, suspension, even jail." "I've got a golden ticket. Bradford has an unblemished record. Odds are we can weather the storm. Rookies are at-will employees. They don't even need a reason to fire you."

This is for us. The audience. They're reminding us what's at stake if Lucy and Nolan get involved. It helps add to the drama, yes, but getting that exposition in gracefully is always a task, and I think it's handled well here.

"Okay, well, with all due respect, I've been buried alive by a serial killer. This rabbit hole does not scare me."

Fuck. Yeah. Lucy's not afraid of what's to come. She's been through more than most and came out the other side bruised and battered, but still wholly her. I feel like Tim lost a lot of himself in his trauma. Lucy didn't.

We all react to trauma differently. We all process it differently. And while it's still super fresh for Lucy, she's working through it her way.

And she knows Nyla's the one she needs to convince. Tim has a soft spot for Lucy where this is concerned. Whether Lucy consciously notices it, we're unsure at this point. But it's there and I think a part of her knows it.

Nyla doesn't have as much give for Lucy. She's all about Lucy facing it. And Lucy's telling Nyla right now that she's ready to face this. Whatever happens.

"Why are you the reason Mitch lost his leg?" "'Cause I let him slide on something. It doesn't matter what, just that I cut him a break when I shouldn't have, and because I did he went back out on patrol, got blown up."

Tim tortures himself, picking up where his father left off. Yes, this is a little bit of Future Knowledge leaking into the review, but I don't think that's too much to give away. Tim grew up in a hostile environment with emotional, physical, and psychological abuse.

His brain was trained to see himself a certain way from birth. He was tormented for his lack of perfection, for his lack of manhood, for his inability to ever. get. it. right.

It didn't matter how hard Tim tried. He could have been perfect, and it still wouldn't have been enough to earn his father's love. Because that's how it was always framed... love had to be earned. It wasn't given freely.

And like so many of us who grew up in darkness, Tim tries to extend better to those around him. What little light Tim has, he gives away. But he can't extend that same courtesy to himself.

So, when he sees an imperfection or failing—even if it's only perceived and not actual—he can't forgive himself.

It's the same with Lucy... with hoe he failed her by putting her in Caleb's path. Now, you and I know that's not what happened. But Tim believes it. He believes he's the reason Lucy suffered so.

"If only I'd..." Oh, Tim. I've been there a million times. Some things you couldn't change. And you can't spend your life beating yourself up about things that were obviously out of your control. You don't have to be perfect. It's not all on you.

But he's been trained that it is... that it's his fault. That it's his failings. That he missed the mark... and because of that, bad things happen.

"That is the most Tim Bradford thing I've ever heard. You showed humanity. There's nothing to feel guilty about." "Rules matter, Boot."

Throwing in that "Boot" to put distance between them, again. He does that when Lucy's getting too close... reminds her of her place.

He's still trying to pretend they aren't becoming friends, that his supposedly impenetrable walls of separation between professional and personal haven't started to warble in her presence.

"Then what the hell are you doing out here?" "Some things matter more."

Ohhh, this line. Yes, he's thinking of Mitch, here. But he's also thinking of Lucy. And every other time he stepped outside of the lines for someone who truly mattered.

She doesn't know what he did for her. Tim never reported it, and Jackson sure as hell said nothing. Tim threatened a guy and smashed his head against the steering wheel. It was a piece of himself that he gave that she knows nothing about.

But Tim remembers. He remembers how he felt when he knew he had failed Lucy. Now, he feels like he failed Mitch once, and he's not going to do it, again.

Some thing matter more, Lucy. You matter more. And you don't even know it, yet.

"Bradford. Chen. Let's go." "Hang on. First lesson in black ops, make sure the lights don't come on when you open the door."

He's actually teaching her and not working it into a crazy test. Not the time to let her fail, right Bradford?

"I actually liked Kojo. Did he go to a good home?" "Yeah. He did."

"Home." Kojo went to a home. And I can't help but get a little choked up thinking that Lucy believes Tim Bradford can provide that pupper a home. Not just a house or a place but somewhere where Kojo will feel safe... and loved.

Yes, Lucy, Tim is capable of all of that. And you already know it. Someday, someday, you might be ready to have that with Tim Bradford. But all the way back mid-season 2, you already knew it.

Part of me wishes we could have heard the conversation that led to Tim taking Kojo. Yes, I know it would have ruined the reveal. But, I wonder which of them suggested it, and which of them went along with it.

This is also another connection point between Tim and Lucy—this dog. They have lots of heartbreaking moments nobody knows but them. They have the moonstone ring. But now they have this ball of life in an energetic pupper who just needs a little structure and love.

Bit by bit, Lucy and Tim are drawing closer to one another, the threads of their stories crossing more and more until they weave into one another's seamlessly down the line... at least, I hope.

Tim Helps Mitch

The last time Tim saw Mitch, he thought he was going to be okay. He had a job lined up. He had good things coming. Finding out Mitch had a hard run of life was tough on Tim. It brought everything back up to the surface.

Now that he knows Mitch is in need, he has to do something to help.

This is the legacy of Tim and Lucy… all the little things they do to help each other and others. Both of them have a natural inclination to do more than talk—they show the people in their lives that they matter. "Some thing matter more", right?

So, Tim helps Mitch.

"Look, it's not a handout, alright? It's a job and a roof over your head." "Thanks." "You're welcome."

Tim has a lot of bull-headed guys in his life (gee, I wonder why), so he knows what to say to help Mitch be receptive to this offering.

Also, I love how secure Tim is with hugs. He's a good hugger.

"It's not your fault, you know? You know, what happened to me? It's nobody's fault."

He. Needs. To. Hear. This. Tim might be tough on others, but he's even tougher on himself. He doesn't know how to give himself forgiveness. He doesn't know how to give himself grace. He doesn't know how to believe there's good in him beyond what he can offer in his profession.

Tim, you'll get there, someday. Those pieces of you will start to heal. You won't erase your trauma, no, but you'll smile, again. Even though right now you're trying not to cry.

"Not a word.

This had me rolling. Like Lucy, Kojo is quickly in tune with Tim's emotions. And while one of his first conversations with Lucy was about how she wouldn't "say anything" about Isabel, he's now felling Kojo to keep his trap shut, too. And that's strangely perfectly appropriate for the dog they now share.

This episode is one that I really love because it starts to break down the Rookie vs TO barriers. All 5 of them were in on this together. They had to face the consequences together.

Are there still going to be issues? Yes. Still barriers? Yes. But we're at a point where we're laying the foundation for where we'll get in future seasons.

As for Tim and Lucy? They're on their way. Season 2 is about the two of them really becoming friends and solidifying their significance in one another's lives. We know that even after she finishes out her Rookie year, they'll be in each other's lives.

Sure, the evil sword energy probably didn't help, and I'm sure canon is saying "um, actually" as we speak, but come on, Zack. The magic grass you packed into your boo's leg wound next to the weirdly short, unsanitary sticks was limited.

MY THOUGHTS ON TBB 2×14 "Tipping Point"

I don't know how articulated I'll be in this review. After watching the episode, I'm unwell to say the least. And it all started by seeing the thumbnail for the episode! Whose idea was that? I want to have words with them! I hadn't started watching the episode, and I was having a heart attack already.

It's so good how everything that has happening to this point is fitting like a puzzle. Despite how some people think, the build-up in this season has been spectacular, and now we're seeing the payoff. I told myself a few days ago that today I'd write the Mando review first today, since I didn't last week and TBB season finale is next week, but here I am, doing the opposite because this episode was so freaking good.

So, here are my thoughts and reactions…

It's so good to see Howzer!! You wouldn't believe the noise I made when I realized it was him. Fortunately, I didn't wake up my sleeping family with it. And it was not just him!! All the boys are back!! So good to see Rex, and Echo, and Gregor and new clones!! Yes yes yes!! And the strategy of docking the ship as a distraction while the rest breaches through another place is fantastic!! all the assault to the imperial ship was amazing!

Exciting 5 minutes of interlude were great but going back to Mt. Tantiss. Back to worry about my boy 😩 And there he is! Noooo, what are they going to do with him?! Oh, Force! More clones.

I love Crosshair's "What is it to you?" and "Wrong" with the right amount of disdain and animosity. Sass away, my boy!!

Hemlock might've gotten a tiny itsy bitsy possibility to make Crosshair contemplate the possibility to cooperate with him if he hadn't said that clones were property. Because at first, Crosshair wasn't sure what the doctor's deal was, and he was wary of him, but the second Hemlock said property of the Empire obliterated the infinitesimal willingness Crosshair could have to help him.

And I must say that after the lieutenant taking the first place from Krell as my most hated character in SW, Dr. Hemlock is turning into a strong contestant. Kudos to Jimmi Simpson for making that soft-spoken voice as creepy and terrifying as it is.

By the time I'm editing this post, I've already seen a few talking about it, and it makes me shake some people! Hunter's question is 100% valid. I mean, do you remember what happened the last time?!

And the fact that he's having doubts doesn't mean he won't do anything, because as soon Wrecker asks what can they do to make sure, you can see the cogs in Hunter's head turning to make a plan. He's not dismissing the issue, just he's being cautious, which is 100% normal in him.

Oh no!!! 😭😭😭😭😭 Haven't you torture my boy enough?! LEAVE HIM ALONE!!!! I'm crying here, but I cannot help but be proud at that face Cross made. Gawd! The determination to say nothing. He won't break that easily.

I got the feeling Emerie will help Crosshair sometime in the next 2 episodes. Am I crazy to think that? I mean, she seems to treat him better than anyone else (if you ignore all the torture that is) and that last look she had, I don't know. Seems she's not so onboard with Dr. Hamlock anymore.

This episode wrecked me. I'm in shambles! I think the last time I was like this was the episode when Cross lured the batch to Kamino last season, but unlike then, I'm not sure how all this will turn out. I'm terrified of what will happen next week. Last season, I was relatively chilled because I was 99.95% sure nobody was going to die in the finale, which turned out to be true. This time, I'm not so sure. There are too many ways this could go wrong, and I don't want bad things to happen.

Also, I'm trying to keep my hopes low for the happy endings I foresee, so if things go sideways, my disappointment is less. but I wonder if wanting having the batch all together, safe and happy is too much to ask?

It was a love story from the very beginning.

The Bad Joke and The Scoobynatural

(13x14/13x15)

Hello there!!! This time I'm gonna talk about one of the most OOC episodes ever and one of our favs episodes Scoobynatural. I put them together bc one was so bad I needed some fresh air. Hehehehe.

Let's start!

So OOC that hurts...

Episode 13x15 "A Most Holly Man" was written by Dabb but also by Robert Singer.

This episode was odd, with easy bad jokes, and OOC. It also had Wincest subtext, and it was very messy.

If you rewatch the entire season, this episode seems to be out of context. If they've wouldn't put the search for the element they needed for the spell, it could have been passed as an episode from another show.

I could write more criticism, but let's just talk about little pieces of dialogue that worked as clues, I'm very sure it were put by Dabb (even if I dislike his writing) more than Singer.

The three elements the gangsters wanted to get were:

Incense: Is used by christian rituals to elevate prayers and gifts from the parishioners to God. This could be speaking of Chuck coming in the next season.

Chalice: The chalice represents sacrifice for christianity. The Holt Blood of Jesus Christ that have his life for humanity. So, is talking about a future huge sacrifice. It could be taken for Dean and his Mal'ak box or Castiel in 15x18.

Skull: it's related to death, and it could be speaking of Mary Winchester death in season 14.

Another little take from this episode was this little piece of dialogue:

MARGARET: Oh, don’t thank me yet. Greenstreet has all the trappings of a gentleman, but… I would advise caution.

Okay subtle, but not that much. The last name is a combination of two words GREEN and STREET, it's obviously related to Dean, and the quote after this 'has all the trappings is a gentleman, but... I would advise caution." It's obviously talking about AUMichael!Dean.

A brief comment about the Wincest subtext... We had Sam flirting with Margaret and Dean showing signs of jealousy, it could be taken as annoyance, but, because is Singer involved, I would say it was intentionally written to be Wincest subtext. And after this we had Dean flirting... Super out of character, with a brunette... With a lame excuse... Unnecessary. But it worked to make this time Sam the jealous one. Connecting the drops, my dears...

Dean has faith again and the distracting rubbing lips...

In this episode we can also rescue another good points as Dean declaring he has faith. Remember at the beginning of the season he was lost and faithless, I ask myself what could happen to make Dean to recover his faith???

Oh yes, Cas is back.

Then the rubbing lips... We had the same gesture from Cas in the previous episode, so, I wrote two entire metas about how Dabb team used the hands to show foreshadow. So I truly thought Dean and Cas would kiss... Hehehehe. It could fit perfectly, but nah.

This episode also talked about how a priest, a righteous, a saint man, was trying to get the most precious thing for his community.

Trying to get back the most important thing he had, willing to make any sacrifice for it, it's the same would lead Dean to say 'yes' to Michael. When Lucifer kidnaps Sam and Jack.

(This could be just nice because family, and because Dean raised Sam, so Sam represents a son and such, but, because is Singer... Wincest again.)

Another piece of dialogue I found is the following...

FATHER LUCCA: (...)And what your brother’s doing, it’s a good thing.

DEAN: Yeah, or a stupid thing.

FATHER LUCCA: Or both. Many times, they can be the same.

This is telling Castiel's name, Because Dean is always asking him not to do stupid things.

Another foreshadow was Father Lucca talking about Lying is wrong, is a sin. This was the preamble to one of the most revealing episode that will bring Chuck back. The episode in which Jack erase the ability of telling lies in the whole world population.

Dean's cave meaning and visual narrative.

Episode 13x16 was full of symbolism, and is one of my fav episodes.

At first, we had Dean fighting against a huge green dinosaur, practically a monster in green. Just like the Squirrel/Godzilla in one t-shirt we'll see in episode 14x04, is representing DEAN, his inner photography of himself. He sees himself as a monster.

Everytime we see SCOOBY-DOO in Supernatural, it's related to Dean's innocence and purity. Those qualities on him will be the key to release him from his emotional prison in season 14.

Visual Narrative in Dean's cave

Let's talk about the Dean's cave. When Dean says to Sam "Be like Elsa, let it be," he's referring here to the most deepest feelings and fears. Elsa released what she had tried to repress her entire life, her powers. And once she accepted what she really was, she was really free.

This will happen to Dean too, the process had just started. Now that he got Cas back, and now that deep inside he had accepted he can't live without the angel, he will slowly be able to embrace his bisexuality, to accept who he really is. The climax of this metamorphosis it's gonna be describer through the whole season 14. It's the birth of Healing!Dean.

Dean's cave represents that. First of all I want you to know that the Dean's cave had been made to watch movies with Castiel. It's subtextually displayed by the location of the two couches and the color of the lights in front of them: RED AND BLUE. Those are Dean and Castiel's places. That place had been built to share time with his angel.

Fred and Daphne were Dean's bisexuality representation.

Mostly than Dean having a crush over the two characters (openly with Daphne and repressed over Fred) both characters were representing Dean's bisexuality (just like Pamela and himself in Rocky's bar and his friend and the waitress in 15x07).

When they had to team up (just like in 14x04) we had Sam and Vilma represented the insight, the intelligence. (Just like Sam and Sam). Castiel pairing up with Yaggy and Scooby, the innocence and the talking dog, the most precious thing for Dean. (Remember Dean would take a bullet for that dog, that's why Cas was compared several times in season 12 with a dog, and that's why Dean follows him anywhere to keep him safe after suffering his lost).

Finally, the bisexual team Dean with Fred and Daphne. In one opportunity Dean asks Daphne what does she sees in a man. Without mentioning she loves ascots, what this symbolically represents is Dean asking to his female side what she really likes to see in man. And we have Fred related to blue color, as a switch mirror with Castiel. Also because Daphne describes the perfect man as STRONG AND HONEST. Which are characteristics related to Castiel.

Castiel enters in the mansion the same way he did in 4x01, stormy, mysteriously, and bright.

Immediately after his entrance, we had this weird dialogue...

DEAN: It's a book we're writing. Yeah, about...killer stuffed dinosaurs. It's called...

CASTIEL: "The Killer Stuffed Dinosaur in Love."

FRED: Huh. Great title.

SCOOBY: Yeah. Great title.

"It's a book we are writing " this is very meaningful Because, the book they're writing despite the one Chuck is writing, is Team Free Will, but... We are talking about DESTIEL. Dean and Cas are writing their own story... Why? Because when they mention the title of that book is... The KILLER (Do you remember REGARDING DEAN? another brief appearence of Scooby Doo and Dean's innocence? In which Rowena told him he was a killer? So yes, Dean sees himself as a killer, that's why the image of a monster, a green DINOSAUR, and huge Godzilla Squirrel... But this KILLER GREEN DINOSAUR has a very important characteristic HE IS IN LOVE. DEAN IS IN LOVE, as he confessed in 14x12.

Do I have to explain how writers connect d Castiel's first entrance in 4x01 with this book they're writing as they go? The book is named DESTIEL.

I loved the scene in which Daphne freshly confesses Dean grabbed the ghost by the thigh and immediately Cas shows his jealousy over that.

But There's another almost at the end of the episode in which Dean mentions his affair with the Cartwright Twins and Cas asks about that, and Dean's face is priceless. Because if CAS would just represent a friend to him, he were absolutely explaining to him what happened with those twins, but he didn't. Why? Because Castiel is not just a friend. Castiel is Dean's love interest. So... Better not to talk about it.

But let's jump over the symbolism of the trapped child ghost.

BOY: I'm not. I never wanted to hurt anyone. But the bad man, he makes me.

CASTIEL: The bad man?

BOY: His name is Jay.

I want to point here we are inside of Dean's head as you've noticed so far, so... Velma is Dean's intelligence and reason, and is linked with Sam (just like in episode 14x04 in which we had the scooby-doo box opening the locked door). Yaggy and Scooby are the innocence and love, part of Dean and linked to Castiel. And Daphne and Fred are Dean's bisexuality. But There's another huge character inside of him THE MONSTER. The monster, the one he has to defeat, is represented by JOHN WINCHESTER'S TOXIC HERITAGE AND AUMICHAEL, they're part of his toxicity, his rage, his violence. The little ghost here is all the good inside of Dean, his childhood, his innocence, but the bad man who obligates him to kill, it's his inner monster. So this is a war between TOXIC!DEAN and HEALING!DEAN as we will see in season 14.

BOY: When I died, my soul was tied to a pocketknife. My dad gave it to me. It meant everything. When Jay found me, he used me to...Sometimes, I get so angry I break things, hurt people.

John Winchester's toxic heritage implies the GUILT. So, Dean's soul is tied to that GUILT. Jay represents AUMichael here, when AUMichael finds this tool, the guilt, he uses it against Dean to control him. The boy says he gets angry, he breaks things and hurts people. He's describing perfectly Dean's toxicity. His violence. We will see it in this season but also, at the end of season 14.

To Conclude:

In episode 13x15 we had a very OOC bad episode, but with a few clues for foreshadows.

Episode 13x16 was a travel through Dean's innocence, inner thoughts and repressed feelings. It's a preamble to Healing!Dean season and how Dean will be able to break free from his emotional prison, defeating his inner monster.

I need to rant about something real quick(spoilers for pretty much the entire series of ninjago).

Keep in mind that this is strictly my own opinion, and if you disagree, that's more than valid, I'd actually much like to hear your side so long as it is presented in a respectful manor.

I don't know who's fault it is, and I'm not going to name any names, but what the fuck happened to Ninjago? Everything before season 11 was decent at worst, and absolutely fantastic at best(I'm not counting any spin offs in that btw, half of that stuff isn't even canon anyway). Now it's just good at best and unwatchable at worst(I haven't been able to watch seabound yet because it's that bad)

In 2018 when Sons of Garmadon and Hunted(seasons 8 and 9 respectively) released, I was super excited to see where the show would go with this darker style, I felt like the show was growing up with me. I was slightly disapointed by March of the Oni(season 10), but that was due to poor pacing and the season feeling rushed, so I was still optimistic for what was to come.

And then, I watched Forbidden Spinjitzu(season 11), and I absolutely fucking hated it. The main villian of the first half wasn't a bad villian by any means, just that she fit litterally every trope that the show had used in the show already. She's a snake, she has been dormant for a long as time before accidentally being released by the ninja who were being idiots, she has beef with Wu, and she does something bad to Zane(because he's the punching bag for the writers apparently, which worked once, maybe twice before it got old). Also, Kai lost his powers and became a sad sack of shit, which is completely out of character for him, because before he had his powers and the other times they got taken away, he'd jump into the fray without a second thought.

The second half of the season was even more shitty, there was a fucking twist villian because of course there was, and it was a surprise to absolutely no one that it was Zane(they weren't going to keep the guy's identity a secret and have it be a completely new character, so it litterally couldn't have been anyone else). Their explaination for how he became a villian, you might ask, he got his memories earased and was told by the first person he saw that he was the emperor and went with it, not questioning a single thing even decades later. Oh yeah, it was decades, because time passes differently in the whatever realm(I know it had an actual name, but I don't care enough to remember it), because of course they'd use another cheap writing trope in a season full of cheap writing tropes, but if time passes slower in that realm, then the ninja would've showed up back in Ninjago a few minutes after leaving, an hour at most(I'm not doing the math for shit), so that episode with Pixal and Wu trying to find them using more powerful travelers tea(also known as the worst episode in the season, and used to be the worst in the whole series until season 14 happened, but we'll get to that later) shouldn't have even happened. Also there was a massive inconsistency where Kai got his powers back and then closer to the finally there was a super dramatic scene with him using them and everyone acted like he'd just gotten them back, like, we're already retconing stuff and the season isn't even over yet, that's impressive.

That isn't to say that there wasn't stuff I liked about it, I thought the part where they were stranded on a rock in the middle of a desert was fun, getting to see Skales and the other serpintine again was nice. And the comedy in this show is still funny despite me absolutely despising almost everything else.

Prime Empire was definately better, so I don't have as much to say about it. I think the legacy shorts that came right before should've been included in the actual season(except maybe the dance one, it doesn't fit nearly as well as the others). The mechanic shouldn't have been an actual villian, he was only good as a small source of conflict in season 6 and his brief cameo in season 8 was fun(but it was just that, a cameo, absolutely no reason for him to become a major character). The episode with Zane being a dectective was hard to watch because of how much of a fool he was making of himself(he's supposed to be the smart one for fuck's sake), and of course that eventually led to him getting captured and almost killed for the umpteenth time. Unagam1's redemption arc was so godamn short it doesn't even count as an arc.

Now for the positives, to say the fight scene between Lloyd and a digital recreation of Harumi was great would be an understatement, and I like that he actually lost and got cubed(which was likened to death, but by this point half of the main cast had received that fate so I knew they weren't going to stay that way). The designs for Prime Empire itself as a setting looked really cool, and for someone who couldn't design mecha or cyberpunky stuff to save my life, I am envious. I loved the interactions between Milton Dyer and Pixal, and how the former was confused about the fact that Pixal and Zane can actually feel emotions in the same way he can.

Master of the Mountain is undoubtedly my favorite of the post Oni and Dragon Trilogy stuff, which isn't a high bar to be set, but I mostly enjoyed this season. My problems are just that Lloyd's trauma involving Harumi was poorly handled when it'd been well executed previously, there was another twist villian that no one was surprised by(though in his defense he was still somewhat entertaining), and it took way to long for Cole to get his entire backstory revealed or to get a focus season at all.

Otherwise, I think Cole and Vania could be a really cute couple, they do have genuine chemistry that I overlooked at a first glance because I so strongly headcanon Cole to be gay, and while it does feel a little rushed at first, it is cute. We need more interactions between Zane and Kai, that whole thing was extremely entertaining, Zane throwing rocked at Kai's head just to annoy him is absolute gold. Actually, Zane was great in this season in general, but that could very well just be bias as he's my favorite character. I like the Cole backstory we did get, even though it should've been revealed far earlier, and the introduction to the elemental burst was well done.

And this is where the enjoyment ends, because The Island was a shitshow to say the least. Introduces another new convoluted story element even though there are still a bunch of unfinished ones waiting for attention, it was really short and disappointing would be a kind way of putting it. They ruined Ronin, who was previously one of my favorite characters because he used to be interesting, now he's just an incredibly cliché cardboard cutout of a conman type character.

And finally, like I mentioned earlier, I haven't finished seabound yet because they screwed everything over even more than they already had. They completely reversed basically all of Nya's character development and made Ray and Maya generic overbearing parents instead of actually fleshing out their personalities like they should've. It makes absolutely no sense that the first spinjitzu master didn't have control over wind and water(or that lightning wasn't part of that group), or that elemental masters for those elements existed at all because I don't think Wojira would be giving those powers to anyone, but mentioning wind makes me think Morrow is going to apear again at some point, though probably not during this season because from what I've seen it tames place primarily underwater, and ghosts are hurt by water in this universe, unless they perhaps decided to retcon that fact(I'm also worried that they might ruin him like they have with almost everyone at this point).

The only good thing about the season(from what I've seen at least) is that it ties in with the previous season in some way, which hasn't happened in a while, but that isn't really even a redeming quality because I doubt it was used well.

Edit: I still haven't finished seabound, but some replies convinced me to give it a second chance and I can now safely say that my initial opinions were at least mostly false. I'm still not entirely thrilled about the season from what I've seen so far, but it definitely isn't bad, I am actually enjoying myself and I bet I will have had a fun time for the most part when I do reach the finale. Kalmaar is one of the only villians in the post Oni and Dragon bullshit that I like, that isn't a high bar to set, but I do at least find him entertaining(and he has a sexy voice, so extra points for that I guess).

Updated Tl;dr: if you're going to watch past season 10, don't expect a masterpeice, there's a metric shitload of problems, but it is still mostly enjoyable.

Episode 14: Connections

I woke up to find myself alone in the room. No Audrey in sight. Last night had been a strange one. I hadn't seen her most the day yesterday and got caught in a monster of a rainstorm, but yet all I got was the cold shoulder from her that night. She barely spoke to me. Just a bunch one-word responses. What gives? I know Audrey. Well, I know her well enough to know when she's mad at me. Had I done something wrong?

I got up feeling as stiff as a board. The chair I had used for sleeping was doing a number on my back. I stretched, took a long look out the window at the now sunny day, and made my way out into the hallway. There I found Tao and DJ goofing off. They look to be having a sword battle or something. I looked over at DJ who had a broom handle waving it around like a knight and then I looked over at Tao. I nearly choked. There he stood holding Audrey's sword in both hands waving it around making lightsaber noises.

"Boy! Are you crazy? Give me that!" I yelled storming over to him. "That Audrey's sword!"

Tao froze and smiled backing away from me. He stuttered, "I...I was just playing with it."

"No, shit! Give it to me!"

I grabbed it from him taking the hilt in my hand and stored it back in the room. Tao looked mortified turning bright red and DJ came over equally embarrassed.

"Man, we were just borrowing it," he said. "We're sorry."

"Yeah. We're sorry."

"To be honest with you it was Tao's idea."

"What? No way. It was..."

"Shut up both of you!" I snarled. They both jumped. I softened my tone. "I don't care who's idea it was. Audrey would flip if she saw you and it's certainly not something to play with. Someone could get hurt with this thing. Just don't do it again."

They both nodded and Lin appeared coming out a room to our left. She stared at the three of us curiously. Then zeroed in on Tao. She frowned. "What did you do?"

"Uh...um..."

"Nothing. He did nothing. Everything's ok," I said smirking at him.

"Are you sure?"

"Yep. I did nothing," he said laughing nervously.

"Well, you don't mind coming with me then," she said frowning. She grabbed hold of his shirt and dragged him down the stairs. Tao pleading innocence with every step.

"I said I did nothing."

"Yeah right!"

Hey. You’ve seen Audrey?" I yelled down to her as she reached the last step.

"Yeah. Grace's room," she hollered back. She disappeared into the dining room with her brother in tow.

"Grace's room right here," DJ said pointing at the door Lin had just came out of.

I patted DJ on the back as he remained in the hallway as if waiting around for something. I knocked on the door and it suddenly swung open. There stood Mr. Jones. He smiled sensing someone presence.

"Well, hello. Good morning," he said beaming.

"Hey there. Good morning."

"Ah, Vince. How are you? Quite a storm last night."

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, tell me about it."

"Hopefully we'll have the lights on for dinner tonight."

"Dinner?"

"Yes, dinner to celebrate your arrival here. We did it for Matthew and his people. It's only right we do it for you and Audrey."

"That's nice of you, but..."

"Don't worry. You won't even have to lift a finger. Everything should be ready for tonight. Well, as soon as DJ gets the generator back on."

"Ok ok, old man. I heard you the first time", I heard DJ shout behind me. He then mumbled, "God, I swear he's faking it sometimes."

"I heard that young man."

"Vince. Meet me downstairs", his grandson then said grinning at me. He stopped at the top of the stairs. "We'll be waiting for you."

"For what?"

"Well, I think I'll go relax in my room, Mr. Martez. Hopefully, breakfast is tolerable today," Jones said heading down the hall. "Oh and find something nice to wear tonight. I'm sure there's some clothes left over from when my son stayed here in the room you're occupying now. Take a look."

He went into his room closing the door behind him and a few seconds later jazz music could be heard playing.

"Hi there sweetie," I heard a woman say.

I turned my attention back to the room that was now wide open. I looked over to see what I assumed was Grace. She stood over Audrey doing her hair. As Grace brushed it, she flinched with every stroke.

I chuckled. "Be careful. Don't want any more of her brains falling out."

She turned her head meeting my eyes and a small smile spread across her face, but she went back to ignoring me. Not even greeting me.

I shrugged. "Well, I'll catch y'all later."

I closed the door to and a small sigh escaped my lips. I promptly headed downstairs and went into the kitchen. There I found DJ, Matthew, and Nathan. The brothers sat at the kitchen table. DJ stood by drinking something. I glanced over to see a plate of pancakes.

"I made them," DJ boasted watching me. "Help yourself."

Nathan smirked. "Hopefully, your dinner is as good as your breakfast."

"It will be."

I scoffed. "What we having pancakes again or some stale crackers?

"No. Pot roast."

"You kidding right?"

"Nah."

I stared at him as if he was crazy. "Where do you find food like this?"

"I have my connections."

"Connections that can get us gas and more supplies," Matthew added. "If we can do that much, we won't even have to hear Wade's whining about us not getting any yesterday."

"Wait. Connections? What kind of connections?"

"Let's just say they are people I know. People willing to trade. Items. Information." DJ said cutting his eye at me.

"Don't worry he won't tell us either," Nate whined.

"They're very private people and they would like to remain that way!"

"Fine, but what type of shit do you trade for a fucking smorgasbord?"

"The question is what do we need to trade for gas?" Matthew inquired furrowing his brow. "Did they say?"

"Yeah and that's the problem. They want metal. Lots of it."

"Like scrap metal?" I asked. "For what?"

"For armor and for building. That's all they said."

"How big is this community?"

"Do you really think I'm going to tell you that?"

"Oh, right. They're mysterious and shit", I scoffed sitting next to Nate. "Well, it looks like we're going end up in a junkyard anyway. Thought it would be for my car, but I guess that's my fucking luck."

"You're a ball of sunshine aren't you?" Nate jested.

"What?"

"Nevermind."

"Still doesn't explain the food."

"I told them about Jade and the possibility of her having a group. Told them they may pose a threat," DJ said putting his cup in the sink. "I also called in a favor."

"So they owe you?"

"Maybe. Let's just say it's a story for another time," DJ said winking. "Now, I'm pretty sure Madison be walking in soon. She's already really suspicious."

"Yeah, I wonder why," I said sarcastically glaring at Matthew.

He rolled his eyes. "I'm going to tell her. Just not now. If I tell her now, she'll just freak out and dinner will be canceled. We need this. This peace. This normalcy."

"Wait. How long have you been planning this dinner?"

"Since yesterday morning. Before we left for the gas station. Why?"

"Is this dinner shit the reason why you won't tell her?"

DJ groaned. "I'm going to check on the generator and get it going again. I'll be back."

"Take me with you!" Nathan exclaimed jokingly.

Aaron then stormed into the room staring daggers at Nathan. He scowled, "Where's my letter, Parker?! You promised!"

"Seriously, take me with you," he shrilled. "I'm coming!"

"Parker!!!!"
