Something I like to do in my daily practice is write down a few things of what made me most happy that day… but for purposes of this, I’d like you to tell me which fic (can be multiple) that you wrote makes you the most happy!

Ignore the notes, ignore the traction — which fic of yours makes you the most happy and warm and all the good feelings, and give an explanation (however long you want) as to why🩶

A lot of times, especially in a world like this where the internet and other’s creativity is so accessible, we forget to give our own selves the credit we deserve. This is my way of sprinkling around that little bit of gratitude.

My favorite fic of mine is probably Desert Dust.

I wrote it shortly after getting married and was just in such a happy head space. It was probably the best time I had writing a fic. I hit the flow state so easily, and I 100% fell in love with both the reader and that version of Joel.

I don't really go back and read my fics (even though most of what I write is for myself), but I read that one regularly and it still just fills me with all the warm fuzzies.

Sex on Fire was a close second (but I have a uniform kink so that's probably why lol). Because this wouldn't be a gratitude post without sharing a little love, I also have immense appreciation for the following fics/creators: + @endlessthxxghts L is a gem of a human, probably one of the sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure to know, and pretty much everything they write makes me fall to pieces. I particularly love Breakfast.

+ @syd-djarin Sydney is literally my slutty smutty sister, and always goes toe to toe with me in the naughty thoughts department. Y'all should see some of our text messages. Sugar, Spice & Please Fuck Me Nice lives rent-free in my brain.

+ @auteurdelabre is not only such a kind soul, and incredibly talented, but completely rewrote my brain chemistry with their series Please, Mister Miller? Like I actually screamed into my phone practically every part. + @morallyinept Jett is the ray of sunshine we all need in our lives. Not only is she a talented writer, but she has one of the most comprehensive recs series I've seen on this platform. Every fic on her master is a work of perfection, but especially her Joel fics. + @atticrissfinch Wowwwwwieeeee, there is nothing that Katy writes that I won't immediately devour. Her Meet Me In the Back series has me feeling some type of way about sleazy Joel. + @javiscigarette Cami is an absolute sweetheart and a phenomenal writer. Her Teacher's Pet series is a work of art. @toxicanonymity wrecks me every time -- mind, body, soul. What I wouldn't give to just experience her genius brain for a day. Her Vampire Joel series makes my younger emo teen self so happy, and her raider!Joel series broke my brain in the best way possible. ...there are so many more, it would be impossible to list them all. Octopath and Triangle Strategy for 2, 3, 7, and 8

Octopath Traveler

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Y'all are gonna be shocked, but it's Olberic. He joined my group late on the account of me going in reverse Octopath order when it comes to recruits. His chapter 1 gave me the impression that he'd be part of a stock revenge story where the moral was "but revenge left him hollow inside." The twists of his tale actually made me love the way he was written and his arc ending with a homecoming (and accepting Cobbleston as his home in the end) was perfect. 10/10 would view his cut scenes again!

The character everyone else loves but I don't: If we're taking the original Octopath Traveler, then probably Darius. I know not everyone adores him but he gets a lot of fanart. It's no secret that's due to his looks. I'll admit the aesthetic is kind of on point but I can't and won't like Darius as a person. He does sort of have a tragic end but he brought it on himself.

Favorite character: Cyrus Albright, by a close margin, with Olberic being second. Cyrus is everything I could want in a mage/scholar type hero. He's fearless, dedicated and wants everyone to learn. He's the opposite of the insufferable genius trope and even thinks of himself as an equal to those he would teach. He seeks the truth no matter the circumstances and encourages others to do the same.

What are my favorite things about the fandom: For the time I've been here, everyone's been so welcoming! I've gotten positive feedback on my head canons, fanfic submissions, memes and everything in between. We're all so different but we all come together for the same game, characters and world. And that's wonderful.

Triangle Strategy

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Erador, to be honest. At first I thought he was going to be the typical Big Guy with all brawn and no brains. But during the voting sessions and cut scenes he's shown to be quite thoughtful and he's got a strong sense of duty. His battle lines show grit and determination, traits I always admire.

The character everyone else loves but I don't: I guess the answer would be Avlora. I know she has her sympathetic traits but at the end of the day she was part of the forces that invaded Glenbrook and caused a lot of damage and loss of life in her wake. I can't just hand wave that. Roland's vendetta against her almost seemed justified, given what happened to his family. Avlora is complicated for sure and I can respect the writers for the depths they gave her, if nothing else. She's a true "Camus archetype" if I ever saw one.

Favorite character: Frederica by far. I think out of all the main characters, she shows the most growth over the course of the game. She goes from being a passive person just doing her duty to taking it upon herself to fight for the liberation of her people. No matter which choices you make in chapter 17, she keeps going. She's a survivor even in the most trying circumstances.

What are my favorite things about the fandom: We are small, but dedicated. I know the AO3 feed is very active on here and I have seen a lot of decent art. I also appreciate the strategy sharing side of our fandom for when I ultimately get stuck in NG+ again.

9. when you look at a new blog, what is it that makes you press the follow button? is it the muse, the aesthetics, the writing–?

is it the aesthetics ? HAHAHAHAHAHA. no. it's not the aesthetics. i love aesthetics, they're so fun to augment relationships and worlds that you're building but they are not enough to get me to follow someone ... if anything, if i see too much of it and not what this hobby centers around (ya know ... writing)? it's a reason for me NOT to follow. generally i follow for MUSES i can see having an interesting relationship with mj (hi all you peter parker writers you're doing amazing sweeties), but only if the mun of said muse has a writing style that i can see being COMPATIBLE with my own because ... shockingly, i don't follow just to follow. i follow with the hopes of maybe WRITING together, so if i don't see the styles/approaches/content choices align then it isn't a good fit and i don't want to give anyone (including myself) false HOPE.

13. what themes/motifs do you hope other people notice most about your character?

oh gosh, what a question. and honestly one that i could write a college dissertation on and still feel like i left pieces out. but i guess, to simplify it all and succinctly answer? i hope people see FIVE key traits in my mj: - she's PASSIONATE. about her job, about her loved ones, about her community and the larger sense of justice in the world. mj only has one setting and it's full on, committed entirely to the people and things she deems worth her energy - she's LOVING. there is quite literally nothing she wouldn't do for the people she loves most, including put herself at terrible risk. she has and will keep the walls from caving in on peter's personal life when he needs to focus on spider-man. she's kept his secret safe, kept him fed and warm, even offered to single handedly keep the roof over his head when he lost his job when we all know it would've wiped her out financially and emotionally, working for JJ. - she's INTELLIGENT. maybe she's not a genius level intellect like some of the people in her life, but she's able to put puzzle pieces together quickly and distill a lot of complicated things down to their simplest elements so that a broader audience can understand. she's always helping peter and miles see things from a new perspective, which has proven to be the difference maker time and time again. - she's CAPABLE. doubt her at your own peril because this girlie can hold her own in this world of superheroes and their augmented foes. she can shoot (a taser but still), she can physically defend herself, and she's very good at being stealthy (lol dudebros who hate her missions eff y'all). in fact the one way to make sure you end up on her shit list? is by implying that she can't do any of the above. - she's FUCKING FUNNY. mj is incredibly sarcastic and uses her quick wit to make poignant (but usually loving) jokes at others' expenses to help break the tension or change the subject. it's part of how she says she loves you, since it takes knowing an incredible amount of details about her victim subject in order to make the sort of jokes that she does. it's no wonder she's the love of the famous master of quips's life, since peter can absolutely appreciate what it takes to be as funny as she is.

The singular takeaway from this post: Do a creative binge. Much productive than a Netflix binge. Period.

Two months ago, I reached my peak when I coined the term ‘bood day’ (a bad to good day, in my article How To Flip A Bad Day By 180°). Today, puppies and kittens, I present to you— a creative binge.

*crickets chirping, that one dude in the audience scratches his nose and turns away* 

…This one actually works but okay, we get it, y'all are bitches. But gonna do my job anyway– if you're a creator reading this, please do a creative binge at least once every two weeks.

I started doing these binges two months ago, and I've seen a VAST improvement in my creative energy. I feel my commercial voice coughing and saying hello to the mic, so before I start listing side-effects for a sponsored pill, let's dive into the basics.

Ever questioned your life, experienced writer's block, painter’s pain or blogger’s… block? (Narrator: aaaand she's back to advertising.) A creative binge helps deal with fixing exactly that.

“A creative binge is based off the equation of quality in = quality out.”

A lot of creators feel that they're supposed to magically create out of their head, and that's just ridiculous. It's ludicrous considering you don't know shit, read shit, do shit and watch shit.

Even to write fiction, my pal, you'll have to expose yourself to the world to know its ways, read great books and take tips (not to mention stock up on coffee, and prepare to cry a lot) before you start cranking out the pages. Everything you create is ultimately inspired by the Ways Of The World. (And that's a fantastic novel title)

So in short, you’ve got to consume content, to make content. And in a creative binge, you conscious choose content that'll help you create. Genius, I know!

Okay, but what if I'm not a creator?

Brilliant question! Wanna become more valuable and leave the people you interact with better? Take a creative binge.

Allow me an elaboration: Take a janitor and a neurosurgeon. The said janitor is paid much less than the neurosurgeon. Why is that? Is the neurosurgeon a better person? That's debatable. Is the janitor less efficient at his work? Again, debatable. The primal reason lies in the neurosurgeon acquiring more valuable skills than the janitor. Society rewards them by paying more since there are less folks who can do what the neurosurgeon does.

To recap: In order to be indispensable in the role you play (whatever it is, a student, calligrapher, CEO of the Janitor Club), you HAVE to become valuable. Grow your curiosity & know more than yo’ buddies (also bring more value than anybody else). And to become valuable, you consume value. Tada!

(And if you still ain't convinced, I'll pull out the Netflix card. You'd really rather watch shows? Or binge YouTube? Than learn a new skill, or develop existing ones? Question your priorities, my friend. Victims love entertainment, victors love learning.)

Cool, you're joining in then! Not that creative binge is NOT an entertainment binge. It's a value providing binge. What you ‘consume’ has to bring you something in return— whether that's creative inspiration, motivation or skills. *Swing arms* yup! We’re one gay, productive household. Someone remind Hallie to buy the groceries though, the Cheerios are going mouldy.

By my dictionary, a creative binge is a slot of time, 1½ to 3 hours I'd say, when you watch/read/listen to some good stuff.  Basically, binge content. 

THE 101 OF A CREATIVE BINGE 

🌿 Basics:

I conduct one every week (usually Wednesday mornings), lasting around 1½ to 2 hours.

I'll also keep a notepad and a pen nearby, to take notes and jot ideas as they come. Again, this is NOT an entertainment binge, even though it's a chill job.

Sometimes I'll get passive things done (like wiping my desk, eating breakfast and taking out textbooks) while watching. We maximize our time. 

🌿 What Do I Watch: 

The stuff I watch falls into 3 categories: creative/humor (for inspiration), business/skills (for skills) & motivation (for, um, motivation). Fair warning though, a lot of the stuff these folks make overlap, but that's alright. This is just a rough demarcation. 

Creative/Humor: some YesTheory, maybe some MacDoesIt, sprinkle in some Ryan Higa, perhaps an episode of a show with an amazing script, some stand-up comedy from my favorites. Or maybe trash that and just watch Sherlock. (Geez, Netflix, I hate you, I love you.)

Skills: Gary Vee, some artist channels, that random video on how to thrift shop even though I don't shop.

Motivation: Be Inspired, Tom Bilyeu, Mel Robbins and random videos which look nice.

🌿 What Do I Listen To: 

Oof, I love music tremendously! If you're a pal, you know it's time to RUN when I come around being like, “soo, I was wondering what's your favourite–”.

Yet, during a creative binge, I'll only listen to stuff that 1) inspires me, or 2) is creative in a way I can't explain. Some recommendations!

FICTION: I dig great fiction. PS, please read (and sob over) Away Childish Things, by @letteredlettered. It changed me as a person, changed my entire perspective about kids. I'm much kinder and softer now, and my pimples are gone. I'll literally never get over drarry too, so thanks lettered, love you.

ARTICLES: Bookmarked psychology, productivity & fitness articles on Medium. Maybe check out James Clear's & Gary Vee’s blog for new posts.

IT’S SOME KINDA HAPPY DAY

Y'ALL I FEEL LIKE CRYING BUT IN A GOOD WAY, LIKE HAPPY/GRATEFUL TEARS

So I was definitely anxious/tired as fuck when I went to school today - I had like 5 of my palm stones in my pockets and stuff to help me calm down if I needed it even though I did at least twice almost start crying so that was great. But when my professor finally came into class she was like, "You're here!" because I emailed her saying I probably wouldn't come to class because I was so uncomfortable, but granted this email was sent like immediately after I had an anxiety attack about it, so YEAH...I had a little more time to gain perspective on it and stuff - as in, my feelings and reaction toward it and what the story was actually trying to do (NOT that this is a justification for the antisemitic/sexist comments made by the protagonist in one of his stories because I explicitly told him 'NO, PLEASE do not keep these in there because there are better ways to portray your character as a complete shithead AND also yeah your characters are totally shitty people bye'), so I finally decided at the last minute today to go to class anyway because I wanted feedback on my stories since I felt fairly good about them just kidding I was anxious as FUCK about them but since I started getting critiques back last night, reading people's comments made me feel a little less bad and scared about them so yeah.

So I told my professor my condition on being there was to please not make me speak and if I wanted to say something, I would, and she was like, "Okay, sure," and then to my ENORMOUS relief she made the guy go first instead of the last person we workshopped choosing whose portfolio we talk about first, so I didn't have to talk about his piece at all which was a relief because I finally got to hear that I was NOT the only one concerned about the comments made. Also, it sounded like everyone was as confused about the point of his stories as I was, so that made me feel better, too, sort of. I actually did feel bad for the guy, though, but I was like, 'What the fuck???? Dude, you're a good writer, what are you doing here? Like seriously, what the fuck is this?????'

AND THEN we got to workshop my pieces and I was not at all surprised that hardly any of the men in my class said anything about my first story (it was direct commentary on society's gender expectations concerning emotions, in specific) because of course they wouldn't want to have to actually look at and examine how society has shaped their reality in opposition to, for example, mine and other women's, and my state of non-surprise continued as a bunch of men commented on and enjoyed my accidental lesbian story. FIGURES, THE MOTHERFUCKERS.

BUT HERE'S THE BEST PART Y'ALL

After class, a woman came up to me as I was leaving (and she was all trying to grab me and was like, "Don't leave, don't leave yet!" I was like, what???) and she was like, "I just wanted to tell you I really appreciated your story - you did a really good job on it and it just resonated with me a lot, so I just wanted to say, like, thanks for writing it." I was like, 'OMG!!!!' and then I told her where the inspiration came from and she was totally agreeing with me and it was just a great moment - I mean, to be told "Thanks for writing what you wrote." Jesus. I'm still, like, I wanna cry. That is the best compliment any writer could ever receive. I wanted to reciprocate and tell her how much I loved her story, too, but then since she didn't workshop it for her portfolio I wondered how much of it was her writing so I didn't want to make her feel bad if she only wrote a little bit of it and the genius of it that I liked so much was the other writer's work (which is still a frustration I have with this class ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!). But I'm still, just, like...on a cloud. You know that cloud? I think it's called cloud nine, but I wonder why it's not cloud seven or cloud twenty-three or something. What's with the nine.

BUT ANYWAY :')

(Oh my god, also, I just read a critique for me by this guy in my class who I've kind of talked to and who we share a mutual friend with - my friend J - and he's just ADORABLE, OH MY GOD, like I guess he was afraid I was critiquing his behavior or I guess lack of behavior with my story and I'm just thinking omg honey no, you're adorable, just be your quiet lil' self in the corner, that's fine with me. DAMMIT I WOULDN'T MIND LIKING HIM MORE THAN THE OTHER GUY but I'm afraid I don't have as much in common with him. :( )

So I've seen the 4 people casted for the remake Misfits...

Ugh - ugh - ugh

There is so much wrong ALREADY.

First off who the fuck is playing Simon?! You done cast 4 roles and y'all forget the central player for a good portion of the story…I know they must already have actor you would not cast all these people without casting Simon because he really was the glue to this little ‘misfit’ family and the actors chemistry with all the others is a must. </p><p>Then…this casting is not impressive so far. They don’t exactly fit the descriptions of the characters at all. And I don’t mean by looking like the org cast. I mean the descriptions they’ve set. They have Nathan written up as some kind of hot narcissist and while Robert is an attractive person that’s not whole his character was or even how he was presented physically in the show. Looks weren’t on the chart even when it came to his own. Now he was outwardly seemingly selfish and self imposing and if they understand that then great but it does not seem so.

And that’s not even talking about the casting of Kelly.

Here’s my biggest issue though, is the writers and the whole freeform thing 😪🙄😒. Like man wtf. The misfits was not flaw free, but the things that were good about it made it great regardless. The humor was one of those things. It was risky, crass, and it wasn’t only in the lines themselves. It’s was. In the scene set up - for example how they were all so annoyed a actual ‘good person joined the team’ and their almost fourth wall breakage when they asked if the shit was serious only for the character to killed off a few seconds later much to the audiences delight. It’s not the fact that Simon says Melon Fucker! It’s how he delivered the line Melon Fucker. There were many great funny moments in the show and it’s because most were about character and delivery not about trying to be funny just for funny sake. I ain’t seen no funny shit on freeform yet. And I ain’t seen nothing from the two writers shows either. Which is discouraging because that was one of my biggest worries with this remake. American humor is kinda different from theirs, the only people who have been able to truly transition a remake from there to here are people who appreciate that humor and know how to flex it in the remake.

Again - they better not fuck up Simon! And I’m not just talking about casting but with his storyline and his relationship with Alisha. I hope that they really understand the genius behind the fact that Simon was originally supposed to turn into a villain. That this factor went into the build of who he was, why his loneliness was so present, why his creepiness was so visible, why his going over the edge manners were there. And that they were important not only in how much he changed but also the why. Essentially future Simon tells her ‘this me you’re so in love with exist because of your love’ and it’s not a lie. Simon would not be the Simon he became without those friendships, without that romance, he was in fact on a total different path. But there’s also that reality that. One of them would be either without Simon. They were mean to him at first, thought he was weird, and their manner only pushed him further in that direction. It’s not until they let him in and understand him that things change. Turns out the most loyal deserving person was hidden under that weird exterior. I think this is a message we don’t present enough. We always talk about the ugly beneath the beauty but not so often about the greatness underneath the seeming weird. I’ve spoken a good number of times about Simon - he’s one of my favorite characters - he’s a nice mix of selflessness and savage selfishness. I know no one is gonna play this character as great as Iwan but I just don’t want them to fuck it up either. And they better not save his entrance til season 2 cause that’s something America would fuck yo and do 🙄.

I just want the Americans to understand the characters and extend - that’s all they need to do.

Also cast a good Rudy and Jess cause I actually went back and watch the rest for them.

Bates Motel (S05E02) The Convergence of the Twain Airdate: February 27, 2017 @aetv @batesmotel Ratings: 1.275 Million :: 0.43 18-49 Demo Share Score: 8.75/10 **********SPOILERS BELOW********** One of the greatest things about watching truly great television, particularly suspense and horror genres, is when you're led right to the end of an episode and you suddenly realize everything you've watched up until that point was one slow and steady climb to the top of a roller coaster hill... 'Bates Motel loves hitting you upside the head with that moment and then dangling you at the top for just a brief second, then dropping you like a rocket... Then suddenly fading to credits. It's the 'Bates Motel' special... And it's always half price. One thing that film and television directors (my Mount Rushmore that I love to mention) like John Waters, Gergg Arakki, Harmony Korine, and Todd Solondz... Somewhere there's room for an extra head for Darren Aronofsky... But they've taught me to truly appreciate certain theatrical values, especially the unexpected, the campy, the big reveal, and the things your curse yourself for never seeing what was laid for you to see all along. Sarah Boyd steps up to the directors plate here, and for those who don't know she's a genius in the editing department... Her prints are all over 'The Convergence of The Twain' and I loved every minute of it. She combines some of my favorite elements of the genre and executes each detail with a cutting percussion. Besides the big home run in the final moments, the bar scene where we get a double dose of Norman's reality and identify confusion was simply masterful... But the whole episode is paced and placed to perfection, it builds and builds and does what any great 'Bates Motel' should do... Leave you squealing in disbelief and ravenous for more!!! Excellent work, Sarah! Let's not leave out the writers... What is 'Bates Motel' without its juicy soap tendencies and mouth watering drama? Alyson Evans and Steve Kornacki (I SEE Y'ALL) write us a banger with Norman's new female-fascination ending up being the wife of his newest scandalous customer at the Bates Motel that he's been playing 'Peeping Tom' with. Popcorn, anyone? And what loyal fan who's been here for all 5 seasons hasn't waited for Caleb to finally be whacked across the head with a blunt instrument. Chick just happening to follow in and be a part of the reveal to add some humor and unexpected trust Norma(n) was just the perfect touch! S4 of 'Bates Motel' was my favorite yet, but keep going at this rate and we'll be ending the series on the highest note a show of this nature can achieve... BRAVO! Great performances from everyone involved from the cast to the crew... This is my favorite mind-fuck on television right now!
