The sky chateau! (Unless the King decides to change the name)
I’m proud of it! I’m going to put some farms inside the island but other than that our king has a castle! He. Will be overthrown soon by some OTHER server members but I WILL defend the king’s sovereignty to the death. (Also why rebel when the king is giving out free netherite?)

Sheriff, Rancher, Soulmate: A Solidaritek Anthology
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ignore the title spelling error, please
So remember how I made those three Solidaritek ficbinds? Just as I was finishing them, a little thought whispered in my ear "What if these fics are all together in a thick book? What if you add-in comments and meta and extra stories from Tumblr? And what if you made it all pretty and super extra?"
And from that, I embarked on a month-long quest to create an anthology of Solidaritek fics. With my drive for wanting things to look pretty, I added some new tricks and effects to the book that I normally wouldn't, such as pasting marbled paper (actually wrapping paper - the same ones I used for the past ficbinds) to "divide" the stories as well as making graphic double-spread title pages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Creating those graphics was one of the more time-consuming parts of the project. It took literal hours of scouring the web to find the right pictures, graphics, and effects that could best fit the vibe of the stories. It took hours more to finesse them all together in Microsoft Word, a program not known for being good with graphic design.
All the three stories are formatted like how I did their individual past binds. But also I added an additional section to this book that took up even more time: the Meta and Comments section.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was inspired by some of the ficbinds I saw on Tumblr - if fandom is a transformative place created between discussions and insights between fellow fans, then the comments section deserves equal credit in the creation of fan pairings. As such, I archived selected comments from all three fics for how they appreciate the stories, the authors, or how they understood the pairing.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Over the months I lurked in the Solidaritek pairing, I have saved a number of Tumblr ficlets. Given how my earliest intrusive thoughts on this project is to save them from deletion, I decided to put a spin on the binding concept: create an accompanying booklet of Tumblr ficlets and a book cover-pocket to store said booklet.
The ficlets are, in order of printing:
The Canary of Death and his Coal Mine by @fellfromavent
They Have One Bed by @kitspot (sadly deleted)
Jimmy meets his soulmate through death by @percivex
"But do they have to mean that?" by @habeascorpseus
"Good morning Canary," by @silverskye13
Hermitcraft / Empires Reunion by @pixiemage
In all, from formatting the first page of this book till today, the entire production of this took a full month. While I may not engage in such a complex project again for the near-term (or god forbid, do this again), I am still so proud of this book!

Watching Last Life- session 9
Part 2
Pearl: Hey! I take offense to that!
Scott: I was talking about my Pearl!
Pearl: All I hear are excuses! How will I ever recover?
Scott: Pearl!
Pearl: He he he.
Grian: And there goes the gremlin laugh...
Pearl: Wh- Hey!
Grian: Am I wrong though?
Pearl: ... Just because It's true doesn't mean you have to say it.
~~~~~
Pearl: You where so open about your issues back then, what happened mate?
Scott: I got even more issues.
Scar: Ooh! Same.
Martyn: Mood.
Scott: It's a buy one get two deal, but with trauma.
Pearl: ...yeah, I definitely get that...
Grian: We are all messes here.
Pearl: Well that was a given captain obvious.
~~~~~
Grian: Now that so many people are dead the server just feels earily empty.
Scott: Oh yeah... it doesn't get any better, trust me.
Martyn: Dude you litterally lived in a desert, thats like one of the emptiest place to live in.
Grian: That's totally different and you know it.
Pearl: Maybe you haven just gotten used to everyone visiting Scott's base every 3 seconds.
Grian: Yeah, maybe.
Scar: It does start to feel quite desolated after a while.
Martyn: Surprised that you can say that word.
Scar: Hey! There is no need to be mean friend! Where did treat others like you want to be treated go? Wouldn't want anyone to treat you badly in return, right?
Martyn: I...really hate when you do that.
Scar: Me? I'm not sure what you are talking about Martyn. But do think about your words next time! Wouldn't want anyone to take them badly!
~~~~~~
Pearl: Ugh, the Last Life server looks like a mess.
Scar: Oh do you want to go all cleaning lady on it?
Pearl: What?
Scar: My Pearl did a cleaning lady service during season 9 of Hermitcraft!
Pearl: Oh? Good for her, if there is one thing Hermitcraft needs it's someone to clean the mess you guys make.
Grian: We aren't that bad Pearl!
Pearl: You don't know all the chest monsters I had to experience in season 8.
Grian: ...you know in season 7 Scar had a chest-monster inspired shop...
Pearl: Really? ...very in character.
Scar: Oh yeah! Might have been a while ago but I'm still quite proud!
Grian: I used it as a hiding spot for the barge quest!
Scar: Oh the barge! It's so nostalgic.
Grian: It was one of ths last places I visited before I found myself in Third Life... It's been a while since I tought about Hermitcraft this much.
The Cult of the Wither: a Decked Out D&D adventure
The world, in its current state, is rotten and must be destroyed. This is the idea central to the Cult of the Wither. Deep below the earth, they worked tirelessly to bring their plans to fruition and cleanse the world by summoning the mythical Wither from its home dimension into ours.
However, thirty years ago, an adventuring party came and wiped them all out. The cult was lost, as was their most prized possession: some sort of magic item that was rumored to be able to help bring it to this world. That item still lies in the heart of what used to be its base of operations, guarded by a terrifying guardian.
Welcome to “The Cult of the Wither”: A Decked Out-inspired Dungeons and Dragons adventure. This adventure contains:
The location of the first Decked Out (as seen on Hermitcraft season 7) fleshed out as a cult hideout
A (sort of) accurate map of Decked Out 1 in VTT format
One quest for characters of level 2
The chance to run a small adventure before tackling Terrors Beneath Deepfrost Citadel
All in a fancy PDF and a less fancy but no less functional google doc!
For all your Decked Out Dungeons and Dragons needs, all these resources are freely available following this link.
(This module is inspired by and based on Decked Out, a game made by TangoTek during Hermitcraft season 7).
Okay, you asked for some Scar angst, and I was skimming your blog for some inspo and saw the idea about the summoning circle working and I remembered a throw away line from Mumbo's video that inspired angst.
So Mumbo tears over to Scarland, but just before he arrives:
GOODTIMEWITHSCAR has left the game
Mumbo's a bit bewildered, but okay, it's probably good he collects himself. He needs to clean up and explain at least some of why he manhandled the poor man's elytra off of him. Plus, honestly he needs a friend to talk to now, and Grian's one of his best ones, so he goes back and sets about settling into Hermitcraft, one tiny bit at a time.
Meanwhile, when Mumbo arrives poor Scar sees something he's been both hoping for and dreading in equal measure for a long, long time.
MUMBO has joined the game.
And look, Scar has never been a wise man, and honestly he has been doing his best to pretend this isn't going to happen. Yet now that it has, he finds that he is not ready. He might not ever be ready. He doesn't want to think about that place. Doesn't want to talk about the past. He doesn't want to think about any of it. He wants to dwell on the now, think about the future and leave that hellhole and every memory involved with it -good or bad- in the past.
Luckily for Scar, in his quest to not think about this moment, he got involved with the Create server, so he has a place to go. A place Mumbo can't follow. And without thinking things through too much, he disconnects from Hermitcraft.
So poor Mumbo has help dealing with things, talks about some of the trauma with Grian, begins to start building again, keeps sending private messages to Scar and getting no reply.
Meanwhile Scar's left his communicator on his bedside table in his moving house and he's on a terraforming binge. Look at him, he's catching up on all the work he's neglected. He's so productive.
He's so alone.
He hates being alone.
But he hates thinking about the apocalypse more.
Besides, after he abandoned Mumbo back on Hermitcraft, he probably deserves to be alone anyways.
This post sponsored by Mumbo saying "I keep trying to get a hold of Scar but he keeps saying he's busy." during his last episode. Why can't I be normal about things.
YESSS WAIT THIS IS SO GOOD. SCAR PANICKING AND RUNNING AWAY TO HIDE WHEN MUMBO COMES BACK. And it makes sense too because like. Seeing Mumbo now will be different from the Mumbo that left hermitcraft for a break. The Mumbo that comes back is the Mumbo that Scar remembers from that world, and as much as he loves him he is now associated so wholly with that place. And Scar hasn’t talked about it yet. He hasn’t confronted it, hasn’t healed from it. He’s been pretending it never happened. He’s been keeping that door locked tight for years and Mumbo has just appeared with the key. He doesn’t think he’s ready.
And poor Mumbo worrying that Scar might still be mad that he left him in that world, maybe worrying when he can’t find Scar that he somehow got sent back there, which doesn’t make sense but he’s spiraling— and then the other guys from the create server mention that Scar’s been spending a lot of time there, so like. Now Mumbo knows it’s on purpose. So he gives Scar space as much as he doesn’t want to, and Scar pretends that that’s what he wants.
Hello, today I give you : a Ren the King short oneshot inspired by this post by @umbrify, but also just a bunch of other posts about Hermitcraft’s current state and also 3rd life parallels.
Once again I blacked out and wrote this in a frenzy so it’s not very edited. Also I still have a Bdubs fic in the works, it’s coming don’t worry.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ren was losing time.
He’d wake up, not sure how long had passed. Sometimes, he was even in a place he’d swear he hadn’t been.
Every instance where it might have happened was not necessarily long. He’d look at the sky, and the clouds would be in a slightly different position, with his mouth tasting sickly sweet.
(When was the last time he actually ate a steak ? Or just meat ?
His stomach cramped often, so he ate more pies to forget.
He tried not to salivate at the sight of villagers and Hermits. He failed most of the time, so he did his best not to think about it.
He wasn’t hungry, he ate often ! He was FINE.)
Or he’d look back on how he’d acted in some instances, and wonder why exactly he said what he said or did what he did.
The throne room, and the Crastle in general always smelt of vegetation, flower moss and a sweet touch of rot. He figured it was simply Bdubs, his most trusted advisor (did he trust anyone ? Of course he did ! They were his friends ! But who knew who might stab him in the back, he had to be on guard, Hermits did love their revolutions, he had to be careful, he had to keep an eye on them).
(Bdubs the Kingmaker, who gave him his crown, who beheaded him to make him rise, who squashed him with an anvil. Bdubs who was covered in moss, with his face hidden behind an opaque chainmail veil. Who was always smiling, finding his floundering amusing, entertaining.
Bdubs who had big big eyes and who often would smell of distress, but then immediately it would switch to glee and greenery.)
Things were just fine in the kingdom !
(He was sure he had lost a lot of time when it came to meetings with his advisors but. At least from what he managed to piece together, he had to be glad that Scar was on his side and not against him. Because the man reeked of bloodlust and was often splattered in red red liquid. So sue him for not wanting to see him bare chested ! For some reason it only made him unsettled.
He swore he saw sympathy in Cub’s eyes after being unable to tear his eyes away from his diamonds. The dark haired man did seem mostly amused by the recent happenings but. He was clearly looking for safe ways to create chaos, more and more chaos, and even though he swore he only ate Gigapies, he was surrounded by the smell of cake, and lightning. But then again it might just be a coincidence.
Scar on the other hand… His laugh was getting more malicious than mischievous and yet he could only relieved that he was the one giving him orders. (The one holding the leash of the attack dog… Only because the other was allowing him to.))
Ren felt so so tired. He had been excited at first ! Redoing the economy, creating quests, all of these things had been fun ! The Hermits had trusted him with their diamonds (well, most of them, but it was just playing pretend, so it was no big deal right ?), they had been happy to do quests to get them back, even the chores,  and it had improved the quality of life of the server !
But, from the moment he had asked Bdubs to make him a castle fit for a King (Dogwarts, no, a Crastle) things seemed to start slipping out of his fingers.
(Don’t you realize, Ren, that it started even before ? Do you remember when was the last time you thought about Rosie, or the Giga pod ?)
Mumbo was still missing, Grian was acting strangely, Tango rarely left his newest death game (at least it was ice, not lava this time). Cleo was not outwardly violent but kept looking at him hungrily. Impulse was his enemy, but he couldn’t help but pet his severed head, only half surprised that the man would go against him, that he was a traitor.
He couldn’t stop feeling like someone was missing from his advisor’s table.
Ren was wearing regal clothing, but his hair was long and untamable, his teeth sharper, his claws bigger. He had to stop himself from growling often (when he was actually aware of what was happening, and not blanking out.) His movement felt stilled, offbeat. At other times he moved without realizing why, without planning to. His left hand was stained red from continuously holding Impulse’s head.
Maybe if he kept his sunglasses on at all times he would be able to pretend that his eyes were still brown.
The kingdom was well, the Hermits were fine. Ren the Red King was in charge and there was no war (coming) in Hermitcraft.
Was messing around, here's a quick hermitcraft/naruto crossover thing. Stills and explanation under the cut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is for "You Can't Take it Back" which is (as mentioned) a hermitcraft/naruto crossover. As for this art... the Iburi clan all have dark hair but their kekki genkai was too good for Grian. I couldn't not. In the current draft of the next chapter there's a flip to his pov and a bit of lamenting that he can't use his eyes, hence my inspiration.
If he looks a tad pissed/evil, good! Grian is going to be one of, if not the biggest, obstacle in Kakashi's quest. And since Kakashi is the main pov people working against him are the antagonists (which everyone synonymizes with evil for some reason, so I figured I'd lean into that a bit).
I've been thinking a lot about what kinds of style everyone's designs would have because in the Naruto world each place has its own sort of theme or pattern when it comes to clothing. I wanted to be consistent with that. Overall I want to keep to a sleevless/short sleeve and high collar style with thick, clunky looking boots. I did this while thinking that they should be good for a lot of wear and tear. I was also messing around with the idea of work gloves for some of the hermits when I was sketching this so it ended up in the pic. Some of them (like Bdubs who has his moss cloak) will have more elements of their skins than others and it's based on a bunch of stuff I'm not going to bore the two people reading this with.
The next chapter is technically finished but I want to rewrite some phrases and segments because the part latter of the chapter doesn't feel right to me. I've been tweaking things slowly but surely. I can't wait to finally introduce Joe though, that's going to be a blast to write.
Scar’s Wizardly Primer: Extras
A companion to "Scar’s Wizardly Primer on How to Sell Your Friends a Road Trip: Mt. Doom Edition", which is mostly just a dumping ground of notes and background that didn't make it into the final cut of the above one-shot.
Link to AO3
For @maebe-later and @mcytblraufest
The Setting:
The year is 2954 of the Third Age. It has been 13 years since the events of The Hobbit, and will be 64 years before the events of The War of the Ring (ie everything in the Lord of the Rings after Frodo and Sam set off for Rivendell). This is the year that Mt. Doom erupts (as mentioned in the oneshot) and the people of Ithilien have finished fleeing back across the River Anduin. The year previous in 2953, the White Council held their last meeting, and both the King of Rohan and the Steward of Gondor died and were replaced by their successors (Thengel and Ecthelion II respectively). Needless to say, the world stage is rife with upheaval, and amongst this insanity is the cast of Hermitcraft. More specifically: Scar wants to travel south while these two kingdoms are getting used to the new leadership, and trying to fortify their borders against the threat of Mordor; and check them out on his way to the Black Gates of Mordor itself. Absolutely galaxy brain take.
The Characters:
> Scar is a Man pretending to be a Wizard (the unknown 6th Wizard who appeared from nowhere and wears the equivalent of a red/blue tie-died “robe” he calls “purple”). No one believes him, but they find him harmless and his friends think he's hilarious . (Scar's real name just is “Scar”. He was an orphan child in Bree and was there when the Grey Wizard came through when the Hobbit quest was on. He was inspired to try and be a Wizard from these fleeting “encounters”, quickly leading to him getting the idea to put his con-artist skills he had picked up over the years to good use. While he was a teen, he would get into enough trouble to garner his many scars and thus his name. However, unlike most people when turned into a pincushion, Scar made the best of it and reached his dreams of LARPing as a Wizard. He never did learn enough Sindarin to make a name for himself, so he just goes by his name or by the moniker, “Scar the Purple”.)
> Grian is an Elf who disguises himself as a Man when traveling because he doesn't want to deal with the hassle of the stigma that traveling as an Elf would cause. Name idea (cut the other ideas and left the final decision here): Gwaeian “wind-country/going-wide/fleet-footed-across-large-empty-land” in Tolkien's old “gnomish/sindarin”) Grian’s backstory is that he’s old enough to remember most of the 2nd Age. While he doesn’t remember having parents, and he’s been a wanderer since at least the sinking of Beleriand, he also has a rather spotty memory for his earlier years. The facts are that he could have been born in the Green Wood before the start of the Second Age, or he could have been part of the first generation of elves that woke beside the waters of the Cuiviénen before the Dawning of the Sun but never left with the Valar to leave across the ocean. He’s an enigma wrapped in a mystery, but all he really wants is to watch things happen and enjoy the world he lives in.
> Mumbo is a tall Dwarf who keeps an impeccable mustache (no beard otherwise), but no one has actually guessed he's a Dwarf. Everyone thinks he's a Man, and Mumbo's not going to change their minds for several reasons. Not the least of which is it would just be more work to convince them than to not and let them fill in the blanks themselves. (Real/given name suggestions: mabembôn (have blanketed (present)), Malembôn (have channeled)... mostly looking for names that sound “adjacent” so that “Mumbo” sounds like his name but not quite since no one can pronounce it properly anyways. Reminder: the names are also norse mythology based, find something “Mumbo Jumbo” sounding from that? …I hate the closest one is “Bombur” orz. Bumbor? Bumbur? Bumbo? (I’m dying that’s too good, and it would make for a hilarious reason for scar’s mixup))
(Fun fact, as you can see, I agonized forever over Mumbo's "real" name in universe. Finally deciding on Bumbo son of Mumbo son of Jumbo killed me dead, though it does seem somewhat contrived in practice. Still, I think it worked out (mostly), and hope it wasn't too out of left field or shoe-horned in in the oneshot.)
(An additional note on Mumbo’s backstory and general timeline of events: Mumbo was born to a Lonely Mountain refugee family in the Blue Mountains 100-120 years ago. He grew up on stories about his homeland, but never thought he would ever actually get to see where his family was from. About 20 years before the events of The Hobbit, Mumbo left the Blue Mountains to explore the local area and ran into a wandering Grian. They hit it off (both thinking the other a Man), and wandered across Eriador till they eventually “settled” in Bree where they quickly bumped into Scar about 6-10 years before the events of The Hobbit. The three adventured together till the events of the Hobbit happened and then Mumbo heard the news that the new King Under the Mountain (Dain II) was calling all able bodied dwarves that desired to reclaim the Lonely Mountain to come and help re-settle the Mountain and restore it to its former glory. Well, Mumbo thought it was a dream come true, though was saddened at the idea he might have to leave his best friends behind. As stated in the oneshot, Grian made an excuse to come with and Scar happily came along for the ride. The restoration, while nowhere near complete, is now far enough along that the mountain is livable and beginning to thrive. Now, 13 years after The Hobbit, Mumbo can feel like he’s able to leave without feeling as if he is failing his countrymen.)
All three of them go by their minecraft pseudonyms and I can't decide if it's funnier if they all think they're all Men, or if they all already know the truth and are just playing along because it's both funny and hilarious to keep others in the dark. (In the final cut, I decided they already knew about each other, but it's implied that Scar and Mumbo thought Grian was a human up until Mumbo was called back to The Lonely Mountain and Grian admitted he was a Wood Elf.)
>Scar trying to pronounce their names is why they have their minecraft names
>Names of “side characters” featured or could be featured in fic: ie Hermits and Their Names: a Compendium
>Cleo: Freya -> Norse goddess of war and witchcraft along with a few other things like fertility.
(A note about Cleo and her establishment The Bee's Mead: The establishment went through a couple of name changes, one of which was "The Boatem Hole" which seemed like an obvious reference to S8 and potentially Lake Town. However, I remembered that Cleo in S8 sold "energy drinks" called "Hive-dr8", which for a drinking establishment seemed like a fun idea to tie into as a more subtle reference. Obviously I couldn't call the bar "The Hive-Drate", but I figured "The Bee's Mead" would sound better and still count towards a reference. Also, Scar did sell Cleo some potatoes that he claimed were magical, but Cleo didn't believe him for a second and just appreciates how well he gets along with the other bar-goers.)
>Joe: (insert norse name either sounds like Joe or based around being a bard) Bragi -> Norse god of poetry and the “skalds” (bards). Josef -> scandinavian variant of Joseph. Josef Bragisson. Perfect.
(A note about Joe: in this he's supposed to be Cleo's friend/extra help/the local Bard. He's the local handyman that is incredibly eccentric but everyone loves him for it. Originally from the destroyed Lake Town, he's a Bee's Mead favorite because of his renditions of "The Worm's Demise"(which was going to be the original name of Cleo's establishment in the penultimate draft, but I found something better tbh))
>DocM77: Doctor Móðvitnir, Modthvitnir being the name of a dwarf from Norse mythology
(A note about DocM: I was going to put a S9 reference in in regards to the diamond pillar war near the start of the season. Unfortunately while it was one somewhat long run-on sentence (which I do quite frequently), it slowed the pace of the paragraph down too much and I needed to cut it. Here it is though, for your enjoyment because Docm needs more love:
"A rather memorable moment had been when they had pulled a prank on the local dwarven Doctor Móðvitnir (colloquially known as “Doc M”) which had started as a “friendly” mining competition and had ended as an all out prank war which had pulled in near half the mountain.")
>Xisuma: while I don't have a name or even an idea for one, I feel like he'd probably be an Elf in this.
