And just like that, he was gone. He disappeared out of Nnoitra’s life without a trace. He hadn’t showed up at work for a couple of days. Grimmjow usually worked in the bar at the club where Nnoitra also worked. They hadn’t talked since... Everything had gone down, but at least Nnoitra had been able to keep tabs on him. Make sure he was okay. When several days had passed without him showing up, Nnoitra grew worried. Yeah, they were no longer dating, but that DIDN’T mean that Nnoitra didn’t care about him. Hell - a part of him would always love Grimmjow. He didn’t think it was possible to have loved someone as deeply as he had loved Grimmjow, without those feelings forever lingering. So yeah, he went to the apartment that they had shared, to see if he was home. There had been no lights in the apartment. Nnoitra had asked the neighbors, and they had said that the place was abandoned.
That’s when Nnoitra knew Grimmjow was gone. He had taken the cats ( he knew he would never leave without them ) and left. Maybe he had left the city? He didn’t know. He had looked for him at the usual places, but no. He had even asked around. NOBODY had seen a one-armed man with blue hair.
This was the exact same thing that had happened when Kyota had left out of the blue, except that time they had actually still been dating. At least him and Grimmjow were... More or less over. Even if they hadn’t talked about it yet. It FELT different to. When Kyota had left, Nnoitra had felt betrayed. Now? He felt lost. It felt like a part of him was just removed. Like someone had taken one of his vital organs and ripped it out of him. He had chosen, on his own, to break up with Grimmjow, but he hadn’t been prepared to have him completely gone from his life without a warning. It was probably selfish of him to have expected Grimmjow to say goodbye. After all, HE hadn’t said anything to him when he moved out of their shared apartment. They had been drifting apart for so long, it was hard to know when things had just died between them.
Nnoitra had walked down to the sea, to the ice-cream shop where they had used to go all the time during summer. The beach was the last place he thought to look for Grimmjow, but he wasn’t here either. Nnoitra sat on a bench, sweaty from the walk ( he was, as always, wearing too much clothing for the season ). He had his hands clenched in his lap, trying to overcome the surging feeling of anxiety. Grimmjow was gone. He was gone. Truly GONE. Regret shot up inside him.
Tumblr media
He wished now more than ever to go back. A year, or two. Whenever it was that they had started to drift apart. He wished he could go back to that point and grab Grimmjow. Make sure they stayed together.
The promenade was busy. Filled with people in bathing suits, eating ice cream and laughing with each other. Families, friends, lovers. Nnoitra had never felt more lonely than he did in this exact moment. Like he was a completely different species to everyone else. Like he didn’t understand their language, and they didn’t understand his. He missed Grimmjow so much it hurt. He dug his fingertips into the palm of his hand, to feel something physical instead of this flood of unwelcome emotions. He regretted everything. Everything he had ever done to push Grimmjow away. To not be good enough for him.
His black pants and black t-shirt were painfully warm in the scorching sun, but he just sat there. He had no energy for anything. He hardly had the energy to breathe. He didn’t want to be alone. Didn’t want to be without Grimmjow. COULDN’T be without him. How was he supposed to live without him?
❝ I don’t want this. ❞ His voice was low, only for him to hear. ❝ I don’t want this--- ❞ A little louder, and a heavy inhale following. ❝ I don’t fuckin’ want this! ❞ He raised his voice and the people who passed by the bench gave him curious looks. Nnoitra buried his face in his hands, before raking his fingers through his hair so firmly he ended up tugging it hard. FUCK. He didn’t want this. Didn’t want this. Didn’t want this. Didn’t want this!

Is it the day??? Mona wrote smt again??? Yes and its a cute father daughter one shot for Sunniva and Gustav. Just because I can. It's was supposed to be funny af but after the clock passed midnight while i was writing this it turned sad. Have fun lmao
Perfect Little Peanut;
'Your daughter got into a fight.'
Repressing to ask, "did she win?", Gustav Larson let out a nervous laugh as he looked at Snotlout Jorgenson - his half brother, he might add - in slight disbelief. 'Well, uh, that's a first...?'
Snotlout groaned, shaking his head as he pinched the bridge of his nose. 'Gushat, she broke the other kid's arm. Get your head in the game.'
'But that's impossible!' Gustav argued, crossing his arms over his chest. 'Sunni wouldn't do that-'
'Well, I'm sorry to disappoint, but your "perfect little peanut" is not as "perfect" as you deem her to be,' Snotlout scoffed, before glancing behind him. And there the culprit was, little Sunniva Larson, sitting on one of the engraved benches the Great Hall sported, her feet not even reaching the ground. Four years old and already breaking arms - Gustav didn't really know if he should be proud, like a cool dad, or upset, like he probably was supposed to be.
'She's been asking for Siri.' Snotlout lowered his voice, nodding his head towards his young niece. 'I'm guessing she's still-'
'Bedridden? Oh, yeah, you guessed completely right.'
Snotlout's face pulled in disdain, before stepping aside. 'Go talk some sense into that kid, I'll go talk to Seer. Don't screw it up, brother.'
With that, the older man slapped his shoulder - in a friendly way, but by Odin did it hurt - and trotted out of the Great Hall. Taking a deep breath, clearing his head of all the thoughts circling in his head, Gustav made his way over to his young daughter.
He and his wife Siri, who currently held the cute nickname of "little miss Larson", which he kinda adored, only had one child in their home, which made him love Sunniva even more. Even now, with a bruise on her cheek and fiddling her tiny hands, Gustav adored the girl.
He sat down next to her, tapping his fingers on the wooden bench. The Gods knew Siri was a lot better at this, he was proud to admit it. She had a lot more tact and tenderness than him.
'So...' he breathed out, glancing down at little Sunniva. 'Heard ya got into a fight. Did you win?'
Sunniva shook her head. Her little lip started trembling. 'No.'
Gustav couldn't help but grit his teeth together - okay, now he needed to find out what happened. People would probably call him nosy for it, but he knew his kid. She wouldn't cry over a lost fight.
'M'kay, no problem, I lost a lot of fights too as a kid - still do. Have you ever seen me and uncle Snotty fight? It's a bloodbath, baby- wait, sorry. What happened?' Gustav backtracked, quickly realising his daughter was shrinking into herself at every word of his story.
Sunniva shrugged. 'M'nothing. This girl called Brenna just said somethin' mean.'
'Well, what did she say?'
'She...' Sunniva held still for a moment. She brought her little hand up to wipe her eyes dry, but before she could do so, she let out a little sob.
Oh shit. Oooh, shit. Gustav quickly pulled the girl into his arms, letting her hold onto him as tightly as she wanted. Sunniva immediately burried her face into his neck, letting out little hiccups of sadness as she cried her young heart out.
'Okay, okayyy, we got it, we got it!' the young father - young? He was like thirty-three - tried to calm his kid down, rocking her in his arms. 'Can we do anything? You know I can't beat them up, but-'
'She said you and momma don't love me!' Sunniva bursted out, her sobs worsening and worsening. 'Cuz momma never picks me up from school anymore! And because you're sad all the time! And because you want another baby!'
Oh.
Oooooh.
It suddenly became very clear in Gustav's head and honestly? Hearing that, a bit painful. He felt his heart crunch at the weight of his daughter's words.
'Hey, hey, peanut, that's not true,' he quickly said, gently cradling Sunniva's little cheeks so she was looking at him. 'That's certainly not true! We love you very much! More than anything!'
But that wasn't the only thing Sunniva had said, and with wide, tearful eyes, she was clearly awaiting her other answers. Gustav sucked in some air to give himself some courage.
Why was talking to his young child scaruer than facing off against a deranged maniac?
'And, um... There's a reason for those... Other things. Well, momma can't pick you up from school cuz... She's sick. Just a little!' he quickly said, already dreading the panic he could accidentally cause his little girl with those words. 'And she needs her rest!'
'Why... But why?' Sunniva asked, wiping a trail of snot from her little nose. Typical child style.
Gustav bit the inside of his cheek for a moment - that hurt - as he tried to think of something to say. 'Well... Remember when momma was having a baby and then suddenly not? That wasn't because we don't love you, we just love you so much, we thought you deserved a baby sibling! But... Things went kinda wrong, and that isn't happening now. And momma needs to rest from that, plus... We're kinda sad about it.'
Oh, how he hoped he hadn't screwed this up. That would be very, very bad.
Sunniva sniffled. 'So you do love me?'
Gustav grinned slightly, booping her nose. 'Doubting your amazing dad?'
'No,' Sunniva giggled slightly - before her face fell. 'I'm sorry for breaking Brenna's arm, daddy.'
Gustav shrugged. 'It's okay, she deserved that. Don't tell your momma I said that.'
'I won't.' The little girl shook her head seriously.
'Good peanut. Now, um... No desert for you tonight? Cuz you broke a girl's arm.'
Sunniva gasped, her eyes widening in utter fear. 'You wouldn't dare.'
Gustav nodded, putting the girl back on the ground and getting up. 'Oh, yeah, I would! Cuz I'm not only a cool dad, I'm also a responsible dad. It took me over thirty years, but I've finally done it-'
'I wish I would've asked for momma more-'
'Sunniva!' Gustav gasped. 'I'm offended!'
However, as she giggled, he really couldn't be that offended. Maybe, despite looking exactly like his wife, Sunniva had some of his traits too - like being impulsive. He didn't really know if that was a good thing, but he loved her for it. He couldn't do anything else.
And for next time, he would try teach her how to win a fight.
@rosiethedragongeek for the tags! Did we miss Sunni? Oh yes we did.
Also i imagine Siri being very much panicked when hearing this news cuz "oh no that's my baby-". She's a very concerned mom and we love that for her

Aston Villa may have beaten them 2-1 but Leeds boss Jesse Marsch said it was his side’s “best performance” in his 11 months in charge.
Marsch told BBC Sport: “It was the most complete performance we have had since I’ve been here. It is a really positive sign for me. It hurts to lose but a really positive performance.
“I’ve tried hard to create a process and understanding of how we want to play football. I am really satisfied to now see it start to come together.”
Marsch, who took over last February, sees his side remain two points above the drop zone.
“We have to stay focused on our process and not get stressed out by the table. I want us to stay laser focused on us,” he said.
Bailey had a hand in both goals with the Jamaican winger finishing off a counter-attack after a great run by Boubacar Kamara in just the third minute to put the hosts ahead.
That was Villa’s only shot in the first half, with Leeds having two penalty appeals rejected, a Rodrigo goal disallowed for offside and missing big chances.
Villa debutant Alex Moreno denied Rodrigo with a goalline clearance and keeper Emiliano Martinez pulled off a wonderful reaction stop to deny Jack Harrison from close range.
Unai Emery’s hosts were better in the second half and they got the goal to make them more comfortable – thanks to the video assistant referee.
Bailey’s shot was saved by Illan Meslier with Buendia heading the rebound over the grounded goalkeeper.
The goal was ruled out for offside but the VAR told referee Michael Oliver that Buendia was clearly onside – and it was given.
Leeds were given hope in the final 10 minutes though when Wilfried Gnonto cut the ball back for Bamford, making his return after two and a half months out with a groin injury, to slam home.
But they could not find an equaliser and remain only two points above the relegation zone, with Villa eight points further up the table in 11th.
It was not a perfect night for Villa, who lost left-back Lucas Digne and striker Ollie Watkins to injury in the first half.

Send us your views here Villa bounce back This was Villa’s first home win since the break for the World Cup in November – and timely after last weekend’s shock FA Cup loss to Stevenage.
Veteran full-back Ashley Young was involved in most of their key moments in the game.
The goal came from a Leeds corner which Young hooked forward to Kamara, who ran half the length of the pitch before finding Bailey, whose finish was wonderful.
Moreno, a £13m signing from Real Betis on Wednesday, started on the bench but was needed within nine minutes after Digne suffered a shoulder injury.
He did well to deny Rodrigo after the striker had gone round the Villa keeper and later on Young blocked Gnonto’s shot after Martinez denied Harrison.
Villa had one shot in the first half – that goal – and 10 efforts in the second half.
Their second goal had similarities to their first with Young tackling Tyler Adams in the box soon before Buendia headed in at the other end.
They had a scare after Bamford netted but Philippe Coutinho went close to making it safe with a 45-yard lob that went just over.
Emery said: “We struggled in the first half and in the second half we played better. It was difficult for us to play through the press.
“It was important to score the second goal because they were playing well to try and score and they did.
“It is no surprise for me that they came back. We needed the goalkeeper and Martinez’s save was amazing.
“I am so, so happy with Leon Bailey. In the last game he had two really good chances to win the match and he was a bit upset and today he scored the goal and did the action in the second goal.”
Visit our Aston Villa page Go straight to all the best Leeds United content Frustrations for Leeds Leeds felt they should have had a penalty when Douglas Luiz put his arms on Rodrigo, but it was not given, and Harrison shot wide as play went on.
There was another shout as Tyrone Mings pulled Gnonto’s shirt at a corner – also turned down by the officials.
Rodrigo, Harrison and Gnonto all had chances before Rodrigo’s goal was disallowed.
The frontman chested down a cross to Brenden Aaronson, whose shot was blocked by Mings. Rodrigo, on the ground, hooked in the rebound – but he had been offside initially so the goal did not count.
The second half was much more even but the chances kept coming for Leeds. Gnonto curled wide and Aaronson had a shot deflected over.
They finally got the goal they deserved when teenager Gnonto span past Young before bursting down the left and setting up substitute Bamford for his first goal since 2021.
Jesse Marsch’s side pushed for an equaliser but Villa held out.

Imagine the Ember Island Players creating a romance between you and Zuko which hits a little too close to home
Tumblr media
You sat beside Katara and noticed how Zuko sat on the other side of her. Aang faltered, obviously wanting to sit there and you smirked as Zuko obliviously missed Aang’s look. Zuko had been with the group a few weeks now but his social skills still weren’t very good and you found it made for some very interesting interactions. His attempt at telling jokes alone made you smile every time you saw him for a full week afterwards and you found Zuko did a lot of things that amused you but apparently not so much the others. “I was going to sit there” Aang whined and Zuko shrugged “so? Just sit next to me”. Aang pouted and you laughed to yourself “here” you said standing up “take my seat Aang” and you moved so he could sit beside Katara. Katara was oblivious and you sat on the other side of Zuko chuckling at Aang’s blush. “What was that all about?” Zuko asked and you smiled “ow nothing you just almost ruined Aang’s evening”. Zuko frowned and went to ask what you meant when the lights dimmed so you knocked his arm shaking your head “i’ll tell you later now shhh”. Zuko folded his arm huffily but stopped talking. The play was wonderfully awful. As you hadn’t joined the gang straight away you knew you had time to just enjoy the first few acts and make fun of the way they portrayed all your friends. Plus what could they do to your character? You didn’t have any old flames like Katara or Sokka and you didn’t have an emotional backstory like Zuko or Aang. So you relaxed arms spread over the back of the bench and waited for *yourself* to make an appearance.
The second your actress walked on stage you knew it wouldn’t be good. They had your character all wrong! Your actress flirted with everyone and acted like a lovesick idiot. You didn’t think it could get much worse and then your character met Zuko’s.
“I’ll save you from the pirates” Zuko’s character purred to yours and you spluttered. “That...that wasn’t even me! That was Katara!” you whispered angrily. You looked to Zuko for confirmation who nodded “yeah I didn’t say that to you...and I certainly didn’t tie you up while staring at you like that”. “And I did not flirt with you like that either”. You both glared as your characters bonded and they actually invented Zuko letting you go voluntarily. As Zuko’s character stared off into the distance and said your name you heard Sokka and Suki wheezing from laughter while you simmered with anger and embarrassment. “I didn’t do that!” Zuko cried and you saw he was blushing vividly. That made you blush too and crossed your arms tightly “they better not stick with this theme”.
Of course they did. By the time act 3 had ended you and Zuko were living a star crossed lovers lifestyle in Ba Sing Sei. They again got you mixed up with Katara and said Azula kidnapped you to lure Zuko to the Earth King’s palace. The act ended with Zuko charging in to save you, offering his own life in exchange for yours, but Azula outmanoeuvred him and arrested him too. As the lights went up for intermission you and Zuko paused before exploding.
“That never even happened!”.
“I knew he was in Ba Sing Sei but we never went on a date”.
“Yeah that was a different girl”.
“And you did not fight with Jet over me”.
“I didn’t even know you knew Jet!” Zuko agreed and you both paused for air.
The gang all looked at each other before bursting into laughter. “What is so funny?” you cried and Sokka smiled. “We all know none of that stuff happened, we were there too remember?”. “Yeah so...can’t we rant?” you asked. “Well yeah but why get so mad about it? Are you trying to convince us or yourselves that the idea the two you flirted is so impossible?”. You and Zuko exploded again at the thought and Sokka and the others burst into laughter again. “All i’m saying is this is a lot of emotion to come from nowhere” Sokka smiled “now i’m going backstage so yell at each other or something” and he disappeared with Suki. Katara and Toph left for snacks and Aang went to the toilet leaving the two of you alone. “But i mean it is ridiculous” you muttered and Zuko nodded “utterly ridiculous”. “Sure we ended up together a few times” you shrugged “but that was completely by chance, it wasn’t like you were hyper-aware of me or vice versa”. “Yeah not at all” Zuko agreed but he wasn’t looking you in the eye for some reason. You stared at him confused and noticed his neck looked slightly red as if he was blushing. “Wait did you?” you asked suddenly “notice me more?”. Zuko looked up and he was indeed blushing deeply “what I....of course not! I never...I mean I did learn your name before anyone else’s but that’s because we spent that time together when I helped the pirates kidnap you and you wouldn’t shut up the whole night”. “Then why are you blushing so much?” you asked and Zuko shrugged “I don’t know I...it’s just them insinuating I like you. I’ve had it a lot”. “You have?” you asked amazed and Zuko nodded “when my uncle heard you’d seen me in Ba Sing Sei and that we’d reached a deal not to tell on one another he had this annoying smirk like i’d done it for any other reason besides the fact it was mutually beneficial. Then when I went back home Azula made it seem like me and you had a thing and Mai got jealous and started asking about you and I had to explain all our interactions and it was very awkward...she wanted me to reassure her by putting you down and making the idea seem impossible but I must have failed because she didn’t believe me. So I guess that’s why it makes me feel weird, everyone keeps telling me I act differently with you and I suppose I do but I have no idea if that’s because everyone keeps saying it or if I always have”. You nodded your head but were unsure what to say. “Well which one do you think it is?” you asked eventually and Zuko paused “what?”. “If you had to guess, would you say you act differently around me because of what people say about us or have you just always acted that way”. Zuko thought, staring at the ground and basically anywhere but at you, “i’m not sure but I guess maybe the second? They must have got it from somewhere I suppose”. “The second?” you asked surprised and Zuko’s blush returned vividly “I’m only guessing, I honestly don’t know”. You nodded your head and went to speak when the others returned which stopped you right in your tracks.
The second half of the play began of course with you and Zuko reuniting in the prison under Ba Sing Sei. You and Zuko did end up there together but you definitely did less staring at one another. You rolled your eyes as your characters began to passionately speak to one another stepping closer and closer. They finally reached one another and you laughed when your character began yelling at Zuko’s. “Ha maybe they got some things right!” you whispered to Zuko who nodded “you did yell at me a lot”. You smirked and went to apologise when Zuko’s character kissed yours. You and Zuko abruptly shot away from each other. “That is not even close to what happened!” you cried at the others who were all laughing. Zuko nodded “this is just slander! They didn’t even bother to try to get our characters right and anyone with half a brain would realise that!”. Someone shushed Zuko and he glared “shush yourself” he cried before storming from the room. He didn’t return for the rest of the play and honestly you thought that was probably wise. It got worse and worse. They still kept in Zuko’s betrayal of Iroh but changed it making you at the centre of Zuko’s struggle. He chose the crown and they made you react dramatically (even getting a love ballad moment). They then skipped forwards to Zuko at the palace, who got his own song when he realised he’d made the wrong choice. Your characters reunited not long after and promptly confessed their love for one another. Then you were both murdered by Ozai very much in line with the tragic forbidden lovers style.
“I mean I’m just glad she’s dead” you shrugged on your way out “anything to end that romance”. The others smirked when Aang paused “do you think Zuko went back home to the villa?” looking around for the angry fire prince. “No he knows we don’t know this place well, he’s probably just sat outside somewhere” you replied looking around but you couldn’t see him brooding anywhere either. When you walked out the front door and still didn’t spot him Aang frowned “okay everyone split up and look for him, meet back here in five minutes”.
You returned five minutes later to see Katara, Suki, Sokka and Toph all hadn’t found him either. “I wonder where he is” Katara frowned and you shrugged “he’ll be fine, that boy has nine lives”. “He didn’t in that play” Toph commented and you nodded. “True but that play was a mess and there’s one thing I still can’t get over. Zuko said his family and friends thought he liked me that’s where his side of this rumour started but in the play they acted like I encouraged him! Where on earth did they get that idea?”. The group all went quiet and you paused “what?”. “Well...I mean you kinda do encourage him” Sokka frowned and your jaw dropped “I DO NOT! When have I ever...”. “When we got kidnapped by the pirates you teased Zuko constantly and refused to be quiet until he spoke to you” Katara pointed out. “Yes but that was to annoy him not flirt with him!”. “Okay how about when June asked if you were his girlfriend and you replied he wishes instead of no?”. “I was joking” you shrugged and Toph smirked “or how about when I was sneaking out to see Zuko at the Western Air Temple and found you already on your way to see him? What were you popping in to see Zuko for huh y/n? Nice date by the campfire?”. “I was doing the same thing as you! I was going to see if he would tell the truth and given that I knew him best I thought I....”. The gang all erupted and you paused “what?”. “You know him best?” Sokka asked smirking and you nodded “that doesn’t mean anything it’s a fact”. “Ow is it?” Sokka asked and you nodded “It is! Fine if I don’t know him best what was his fake name in Ba Sing Sei?”. Everyone went quiet and you nodded “or how about how long ago he was banished from the fire nation? Better yet just tell me his parent’s names!” you cried. When nobody replied you smirked folding your arms victoriously “told you I know him best”. “Yeah you’ve definitely proved how much you know about Zuko” Suki smirked looking past you. You frowned before you heard someone behind you. You turned to see Aang had found Zuko and by the look on his face he’d heard everything. You blushed and looked down “Zuko we were...”. “Having a competition to see who knows me best?” Zuko asked mildly amused and you paused “well sort of...Sokka started it”. “No I didn’t” Sokka retorted “you declared you knew Zuko the best and when I asked if you were sure you started spouting your favourite facts about him”. “They’re not my favourite facts about him” you snapped and Sokka’s smirk just grew “whatever y/n” and he turned leading the way home. The others all followed and purposefully made it so you and Zuko were at the back. “Why were you talking about me anyway?” Zuko asked and you paused “ow nothing I was just er...trying to work out why the Ember Island Players thought I had a thing for you but the gang was not helpful”. “They couldn’t think of a reason?” Zuko asked innocently and you frowned “no they could actually think of lots of reasons, it appears similar to your family they were also under the impression I held a flame for you as it were”. “Ow really?” Zuko asked. He kept his voice flat but you could swear he was smirking slightly. “Stop enjoying this” you whined pushing him “it’s not funny, it’s embarrassing”. “Liking me is embarrassing?” Zuko asked and you paused “no I didn’t mean that, I just meant having all your friends claim you like someone when you can’t see it”. “You really can’t see where they’re coming from?” Zuko asked and you shook your head “nope not at all”. Zuko looked away and you frowned “I saw that, what did that look mean?”. “Nothing...” Zuko trailed off but you sighed grabbing him by the arm to make him look at you “I’m sick of everyone saying things about me for once just say it to my face!”. Zuko sighed “fine, I just think i’ve been honest with you but you’re not being honest with yourself”. “Not being honest?”. Zuko nodded “Yes, I admitted I could see where my family were coming from and how the rumours started but you’re acting as if they plucked them out of thin air!”. “Well maybe they did! I don’t see how any of our interactions could be interpreted as romantic”. Zuko didn’t look convinced. “You don’t think there’s some truth to what the Ember Island Players said? That maybe there is something here?” Zuko asked gesturing to the small gap between you. “No of course not! Do you?”. “No” Zuko yelled back and you nodded “fine! You are the most infuriating...” you started when Zuko grabbed you kissing you. You initially tensed at the sensation but soon melted into it. Zuko seemed to be trying to prove a point by kissing you passionately and not wanting him to win you kissed him back matching his intensity. Finally Zuko pulled away for air and stared at you “still not want to admit there’s something here?”. You stared at Zuko torn between admitting he was right and your pride. You were annoyed, frustrated, excited and exhilarated all at once. You were breathing rapidly, your cheeks bright red as were Zuko’s and neither of you made to move away. “I...” you started eventually “that was a good kiss”. Zuko nodded, his frustration melting away “it was, I enjoyed it...I’ve been wondering what it would feel like to kiss you for a while now”. “You have?” you asked and Zuko nodded “as annoying as it is to admit my family and friends were right, I like you and I have for a while”. You smiled despite yourself at how adorable Zuko looked all bashful and embarrassed. “I tried ignoring it for a while but then when I joined the group your friends all saw it straight away. Then tonight...the play was bad but I was frustrated that everyone seemed to see it apart from you the person I actually wanted to see it...you”. You looked down wondering how to reply “I’m sorry I bet that was really frustrating”. Zuko nodded “It was and I figured this was just one-sided but that...did you feel it too?”. Zuko looked so unsure and unlike himself it was endearing and gave you confidence. “Yes” you said shakily “after that kiss I can tell you it is definitely not one-sided. I like you too Zuko and probably have since the start”. “Probably?” Zuko asked and you sighed “I’m not good with my emotions, I can be oblivious to them so I can’t with certainty tell you it’s been going on as long as the play made it out to be but I know I like you. Right now in this moment...I hope that’s enough, I know it’s a shit confession and you probably wanted something more solid but I...”. Zuko began laughing and you paused “what’s so funny?”. “Something more solid? Y/n I’m on the run from the Firelord who is my father, my sister is hunting me to kill me and I could very likely be imprisoned for the rest of my life if Aang fails and that’s if i’m lucky...I’m not even sure if I have a future so trust me all I need is the present. To know in this moment right here you like me back” Zuko blushed but he stepped closer and took your hands “that’s more than enough for me”. “It is?” you asked and Zuko nodded “yes and if by some chance it becomes more long-term I’ll be very happy but for now I just want to enjoy this time with you”. You smiled and leant in to kiss Zuko again when someone coughed. “Hey what are you two doing?” Sokka called. Apparently the others had finally realised the two of you were no longer with the group and walked back to find the two of you as you currently were. Luckily it was dark so you moved away from Zuko but still held his hand. “Yeah we thought you’d gotten lost are you okay?” Katara called. Zuko sighed and you smirked at his expression. “We’re fine” you smiled “we were just talking and Zuko’s going to show me this beach he went to a lot as a kid”. Zuko’s eyes shot up to yours and he smiled. “You are?” Aang asked and Zuko nodded “yep, it’s not far from here so we won’t be long. You guys head back to the villa and we’ll meet you there” and with that Zuko tugged you away from the others. You smiled at Zuko and he smiled back at you “quick thinking, I didn’t think we’d get out of there so easily”. “You can thank me later” you replied when you heard Sokka gasp “wait are they holding hands? Y/n are you holding hands?”. “Run!” Zuko cried and you laughed but did as he said. You kept running even after Sokka’s voice trailed off and only stopped when you reached a sandy beach. You both collapsed on the ground and you turned to look at Zuko “did you know this was here or did you get lucky?”. “Totally the former” he smiled and you shook your head “you’re lucky I like you”. “I really am” Zuko agreed and he stared at your face tenderly. His fingers brushed your cheek and you smiled “what are you waiting for?”. “I have no idea” Zuko admitted and he leant in to reclaim the lost kiss from earlier. This time you weren’t interrupted.

You met Armin in your freshman year of high school. You had gone to separate middle schools, but those two schools fed into your then high school and you became classmates. You shared a band class together, Armin played clarinet and you played the piano. The entire band was split between two periods, you and Armin’s seventh period consisted of woodwinds while the other period held brass… percussion was split evenly between the two periods.
That was the first game of chance.
The second one was after-school practice sessions with Mr. Steunberg. Apparently, Armin was struggling with sight-reading just as much as you were, so you were paired together for practice lessons on Mondays. And every Monday for the second semester of freshman year, you and Armin played your instruments in that little sound booth while your music teacher corrected you from outside.
Eventually, the twenty minutes between the end of school and the beginning of lessons was being shared between the two of you rather than each of you hiding off down some hallway. You had decided to come down the band hall early, conveniently at the same time Armin had as well.
It started with one of you asking if the other had a certain teacher, followed by asking if they had completed the night’s assignment for that class. Over time, the floor distance between you two closed and you’d sit cross-legged on the carpeted floor just outside the booth, knee to knee, sharing snacks before Mr. Steunberg made his way from his History class and down to the band hall. You’d work on homework together and laugh over the squeaking mistakes from the neighboring booths.
Just around the time when you and Armin began to grow comfortable with each other, your organized lessons had stopped and your blooming friendship had been put on pause. Neither of you missed it too much, you barely knew each other, but you still smiled at each other in the halls and occasionally talked before your shared class if there was time, but there really wasn’t.
It was like that for a while; little waves, sentence-long conversations, awkward silences followed by equally as awkward good-byes. It was months before you ever talked the same way you had in that little hallway.
It wasn’t like you craved his presence. Christ, you would completely forget about him if you didn’t see him every day in class. But when he came up to you at the end of the day one day while you were sitting on the piano bench, waiting for the final bell to ring, you couldn’t help but smile.
You still remember the shirt he was wearing, how he pushed those thin-rimmed glasses he still wore up his nose as he talked with you, “Can you help me with sight-reading? I don’t wanna tell my mom I need lessons again and I’m embarrassed to ask anyone else.”
Of course, you had said yes to him, you wouldn’t be pulling your phone out in the middle of the night in the peak of summer to text him while you’re shit-faced to text him if you hadn’t.
Your practicing together turned into practicing and doing homework together, which turned into getting off track and watching YouTube videos together. Then came the hanging out outside of homework and lessons; goofing off at either of your neighborhood parks, walking down the road to get fast-food, running around in a grocery store because there was nothing else to do in the suburbs.
There wasn’t an exact moment where you agreed that you were best friends, it just happened. You were always there for him whenever he got pushed around by the baseball boys, when his parents got divorced and his grandfather moved in, when he got his acceptance letter to the college of his choice; and he was there for you for your first boyfriend and your first heartbreak, he was there when your dog was lost for five days… he being the one that found her, and when you got your acceptance letter, he was the one sitting next to you with open arms.
There were moments when you found yourselves distancing; when you got into little arguments. But at the end of the day, the love that each of you had for each other was stronger than anything. You always came back to him, and he to you.
No matter how many times you broke his heart by flirting with him just to hook up with some random guy at a party the same day, told him that he was your ‘best friend’, talking about how he was ‘like a brother’ to you, he couldn't leave you and he couldn’t stop loving you.
Armin would do anything for you and you would do anything for Armin. This is why when he got your messages in the dead of the night, he was over to your apartment before he could even text back.
‘armin’ ‘come over’ ‘help’ ‘need help’
Every second between the moment he got your messages until he reached your door, he was mortified. His heart was pounding out of his chest, knuckles turning white as he gripped the steering while swerving around corners recklessly, eyes flitting over your parking lot to try and find anything out of the ordinary.
He almost tripped on the curb of the sidewalk while running up to your building. He was whipping open doors and frantically pressing elevator buttons as his keys still jangled in his hands, he didn’t even think to shove them into his pockets. His eyes bore into the red, electric lettering at the frame of the elevator, watching the numbers increase with his hand pressing against the metal doors like it’ll somehow make it go faster.
Once he reaches your door, he knocks frantically, jolts of pain shooting through his knuckles as he does so.
And you’re right at the door waiting for him. You tug it open the second you hear him outside of it, a giant smile of relief on your face.
“Oh my god! Thank god you’re here! I was going to pass out from waiting so long,” You giggle, grabbing ahold of his forearm that was still outstretched from knocking and pulling him inside.
It took him a moment to realize that you’re alright, that you’re standing right there in front of him, unharmed and unscathed, with his sweatshirt pulled over you, the one he gave you before leaving for university. You’re bouncing on the balls of your feet as you grab at his arms to bring him forward, stumbling back over your own feet in the process which just sends you into another fit of giggles.
You had a slight sheen of sweat over your face and neck, not a lot, just enough so when your head turned to look behind you the kitchen lights bounced against the gloss on your skin. You didn’t have pants on as well, just these light grey boy-short panties that completely exposed the length of your legs.
It wasn’t like Armin hasn’t seen you in a swimsuit before. Many times your parents had taken you on trips to a lake where you would go tubing and swimming for hours on end until you were both drained of all your energy. But seeing you in, presumably, nothing but his sweatshirt and panties that bared your thighs and bottom curves of your ass had him far more flabbergasted than a swimsuit ever could.
“You’re — you’re okay?” He asks, voice still wavering with concern as you continue to drag him towards the kitchen.
“Absolutely not!” You sound serious, “I need help… with making my dessert.” Your faux serious tone falls apart and you’re choking back another wave of laughter.
Armin watches you incredulously but intently as you slide your hands down his forearms until both of your hands meet his own, giving them a squeeze before spinning around and gripping the kitchen island’s counter.
You have an array of stainless steel bowls crowded beside each other while a mixture of dry baking goods sits unstirred in one of the bowls. You shuffle through the measuring cups and spoons before picking up a large wooden spoon and holding it up to Armin, presenting it to him, like you’ve found a block of gold.
When you turn away from him, he looks over the state of the kitchen. Sugar and flour remnants cover the countertops, series of baking instruments litter them as well, and on the kitchen table is a bottle of vodka.
And then it hits him; you’re playful nature, unpredictability, clumsiness, and intimacy.
“Are you drunk?” He asks you. He isn’t disappointed, or angry, just slightly taken aback.
You bring your head up from the bowl and tilt your head side to side like you were thinking over his question, “A little.”
It was much more than ‘a little’. Before you had even started drinking you were in a playful mood. You had just gotten the offer for a summer job for lifeguarding at the apartment complex’s pool and you thought to celebrate by binging your favorite television show and having a few shots. Then, a few shots turned to many and you were dancing around your living room while having the time of your life before you had settled on making yourself some food. ‘Another celebration’ you had convinced yourself.
But the measuring and the mixing were too hard and who else was there to call other than your best friend?
“Oh my god.” Armin smiles, shaking his head at you and making his way towards you as you continue to mix at god-knows-what you’ve put into that bowl, “You need actual food, not whatever you’re making here.”
You let go of the spoon, letting out a little huff of frustration at his words, scrunching your nose real cutely as you turn towards him. You take the front of his tee-shirt in your hands, gently fiddling with the fabric as you pout.
“I want dessert, Armin.” You whine, bringing your head forward to rest your cheek on his chest. Your chest was pressing against his torso, bare legs knocking against his own.
“’Tomorrow-You’ is going to thank me for not letting you have dessert.” He awkwardly brings one of his hands to your back, patting it a few times before letting his hand rest between your shoulder blades.
“Please?” You whisper, tilting your head up until he can feel your tiny breaths against his chin. Armin hopes you can’t feel the way his heartbeat begins to pick up in his chest at your close proximity.
“No… No, I’ll — I’ll make you toast or something, how does that sound?” He suggests, snaking his hands between the two of you to gently nudge you off him.
But the space between the two of you is quickly closed when your slide your hands up his chest and around his neck, “Don’t want toast.” You murmur, standing up on the tips of your toes to get in his eye-line. Your nose was only a breath away from his.
Armin carefully takes your wrists in his hands, taking your arms off him as he stammers out, “Well, you’re going to have toast.”
You let out another noise of frustration as you pull yourself away from him, your hands balling into fists at your sides while he pulls open your fridge for the loaf of bread on the top shelf. You watch him with your head tilted in fascination like you’ve never seen bread before, admiring the way his hair falls into his eyes as his pretty hands unwrap the plastic sleeve of the loaf then tug the toaster away from the counter backsplash.
He truly was so beautiful. You always contained your attraction towards him so well, but now your restraint was slipping.
You prance over to him, slipping your arms around his waist and resting your head against his back as he slides two slices of bread from the loaf. His skin is so warm beneath the thin fabric of his shirt. You can feel the muscles in his shoulders and back flex as he moves his arms, his abdominal muscles twitching as well in reaction to your fingertips skimming over them.
God, he’s so fucking nervous.
Why is he so nervous?
Because you’re all over him in just panties and his shirt when he’s had a crush on you for as long as he can remember. You’re being so touchy, so intimate with him, he’s afraid he might explode.
“Go sit down. Can’t — can’t help you if you’re in my way.” He says. Oh but he could help you, he could help you even if you were hanging on him like a spider monkey, he’s just afraid you’ll realize your effect on him if you do so.
“I just wanna be close to you. You’re so cute.” You nuzzle your head under his left arm until you and slip your whole body under it and stand ever so slightly in front of him, wedged between his torso and the countertop.
Your hands play with the hem of his shirt as you look up to him, your eyes glossy, and your pupils were blown. Armin tries his best to keep himself subtly distanced from you, but it’s no use. Every time he inches away, you’re just back on him.
You’re sliding your hands up his chest, fingers tracing over his jaw and cheekbones as you cling to his side. He can feel your hips knocking against his, your thighs rubbing against his as you shift around to try and get closer. Your fingers follow along the curves of his neck, tracing down his throat then skimming over his collarbones.
“Sit here then. Sit on the counter.” Armin grabs ahold of your torso and pushes you against the counter, the edge of it rutting into the small of your back. You grab ahold of his biceps and let out a flirty little giggle at what his actions could be insinuating.
Your fingers press into the plush muscle of his arms as he strains to lift you, your heels grappling at the cabinets below you to try and aid him. His waist ends up slipped between your knees when you’re finally seated, and you can feel your body flush hot with arousal.
You were already sweating from the exertion you had put forward before he had arrived, but the added closeness with Armin was just driving you crazy.
“Now sit, and stay.” Armin places his hands in front of you to enforce his directions.
You giggle a few times, smiling at the fact that he’s treating you like a dog, “Woof.”
Armin slips his waist out from your knees to come to your left slide, plucking the now toasted bread from the toaster and setting it on a napkin. He pulls open the drawer to his right for a butter knife, then snatches the butter from the island and brings it to your toast.
His hands shake as he pulls the glass top of the butter dish, they shake as he dips the knife into the butter, and continues to shake as he spreads the butter over the first piece of toast. He can feel your thigh brushing against his hip as you swing your legs.
You begin to breathe heavier, the heat of exhaustion and heat of arousal begin to grow overwhelming. You fan your face a few times, pushing your hair off your neck, before grabbing the hem of his sweatshirt and pulling it up and over your head.
“What — what are you doing?” Armin stammers, taking a tiny step away from you.
You absentmindedly fold the sweatshirt before setting it aside to fan your face again, “It’s so hot… I think it’s you, Armin.”
You can see his face flush red this time, his ears as well, turning his cheeks and nose a pretty pink shade that doesn’t help your problem.
Armin tries to ignore you, he really does, but it’s so difficult because now you’re in this skimpy little tank top with spaghetti straps. And the straps are slipping off your shoulders and Jesus fucking christ you’re not wearing a bra. He can’t stop his eyes from flitting over your scantily clad figure, drinking in the way your thighs squish against the counter, the curve of your ass as it’s pressed to the granite, the way your nipples tease the thin fabric of your skin.
“Have I ever told you that? That you’re so fine?” You giggle, running a finger down his bicep as he finishes buttering your toast. You’re so grateful that he’s got that stupid white tee shirt on, the one that keeps your gaze lingering over the lean muscle in his chest and back.
“Um, n — no. Toast is done, hop down.” He refuses to make eye contact because if he does, he’s scared he won’t be able to stop himself from kissing you.
“Help.” You pout, reaching out your hands and grabbing for his shoulders.
Armin listens to your plea, setting the toast back down and grabbing ahold of your waist to slide you off the counter. But instead of bringing your feet to the floor, you wrap your legs around his waist and hook your arms around his neck. You have to tilt your head down to look into his eyes, only to see his pupils blown and lashes fluttering as he blinks.  He doesn’t push you off him. Instead, he uses his left hand to snatch the food off the counter while his right hand comes to brace your lower back.
He’s afraid he’s going to have a heart attack now; feeling your thighs wrapped around him, your cunt hovering just right over his growing cock, your back arching your chest so close to his face that he swears if he looked down he would get a perfect view of your tits, your parted lips all glossy, breath fanning over the bridge of his nose as you run your fingers over the curves of his pretty pink lips.
Fuck. He was definitely getting off to this later.
You’re giggling all the while, and to an extent, you know exactly the effect you have on him. It’s cute, the way he stumbles around your house and trying to keep his footing as he brings you to your bedroom.
“C’mon, Armin. At least take me on a date first,” You tease as he kneels down to bring your backside to the foot of the bed. Once your legs release his waist, he stands again.
“I’m — I’m not trying — we’re not —” He stutters, bringing his hands forward again like he’s scared you’ll pounce on him.
It’s not that he doesn’t want to. Armin wants nothing more in the entire world than to have you beneath him, to have his cock sheathed inside you, to have you moan out his name as you cum around his cock…
But he couldn’t let it happen like this.
You were drunk, so so drunk. And you probably didn’t even know what you were saying.
“We can if you want to.” You speak softly, your knees knocking together as you settle into your seat, fiddling with your hands in your lap as if you got all shy all of a sudden.
And when you look up to him through your lashes, brows furrowed slightly in a pout, Armin almost caves. But he catches himself just as fast, shoving your toast in front of you like it’s a shield.
Your eyes shift down to the food that’s presented before you, and your pout turns into a cute little smile as you daintily take it from his hands. You let the napkin rest in your left palm as you hold the food in your right, immediately taking a little bite out of it.
“You want some water?” Armin asks, still standing in front of you.
You give him a nod without looking up, taking another bite out of the toast while he fills up the cup that he knew rested beside your bathroom sink. As he stands in front of the mirror he takes a moment to breathe in and out deeply as the water fills the cup.
You were going to be the death of him.
“You know, I mean it when I say you’re attractive,” He hears you say, still sitting all obediently on your bed and waiting for him to return, “Everyone’s like, ‘oh Armin got so hot!’, but I always thought you were cute… you just got so — nnghh — in the past year.”
He returns with your glass of water, holding it out to you as you finish chewing. You take it from him gently, holding it in both your hands, careful not to drop it, as you take little sips.
He knew you were being irrational, but he truly hopes you mean what you say.
When you finish drinking, you pat your hand against the mattress as you set your cup to the floor. You want him close again, want the warmth he radiates both physically and spiritually. Armin listens to your ask and sits beside you carefully, running his hands over his thighs as you pull your legs up on the mattress and cross them under you.
“Do you think I’m pretty?” You ask, voice getting tiny again.
That was real… that question… he’s so sure of it. You were always insecure about your looks when you had no reason to be, but he had no idea that you cared what he thought about you.
“I — um… I — I don’t think my — my opinion matt —” He tries to get it to come out sounding right, but the moment he opens his mouth he already knows he’s failed terribly.
“Do… do you not think I’m pretty?” He can hear the feeling of betrayal in your voice, you turn your head away from him.
“No! No, y/n, I think you’re really pretty —”
You grab ahold of his shirt collar and tug him towards you as you let your back fall to the mattress. His torso comes over you and his hand shoots out beside your head to keep him from falling atop you. He can’t even bring himself to pull off of you, because your noses are touching and he can feel your knees knocking against the left side of his waist.
“I — you’re — God, y/n you’re so pretty. Don’t ever think I don’t think that.” He breathes, trying so hard to your lips from touching, for his own sake.
Your mouth splits into a smile and a little laugh escapes your lips. Your free hand grabs ahold of his shirt as well, assuring both you and him that he isn’t going anywhere. You look down to his lips, slightly parted as he pants heavily to keep his composure.
“No, but you don’t understand,” You keep your eyes on his lips, fighting the desire to kiss him, “You’re so fucking hot.”
Armin’s breath gets caught in his throat because you had spoken that in a borderline whimper. Your bottom lip had been taken between your teeth after you finished speaking, and he swears he could see your back arch slightly.
It was completely visible now, how much you needed him. You were holding onto him for dear life, your thighs were squeezing together and your arched back had your stomach brushing against his. You looked at him through half-lidded eyes, irises filled with lust and hunger.
Armin’s so grateful that your legs are to his side and now wrapped around his waist again because he would not have been able to stop himself from grinding down against you… it would have been completely involuntary.
“And — and don’t tell anyone this but sometimes… sometimes I get off to you,” You bring your voice to a whisper as you reveal your secret, lifting your head to move closer to him. He can feel your lips brush against his as you speak, “Actually... like all the time.”
Armin lets out an audible exhale, his jaw slacking at your revelation, he has to shut his eyes again.
“Do you get off to me too?” You ask. And you speak like you didn’t just reveal that to him, bringing your head back down to the mattress and smiling.
Of course he does. Of course he does.
Junior year of high school you offered to be his first kiss, just for fun, ‘cause you were friends, right? And you wanted to help him get it over with.
But every night since then, Armin has gotten off to you; laid back in his bed with his cock in his fist, and whispering your name as he cums.
“I — we’re best friends — y/n, I —”
“Best friends don’t wanna fuck each other, Armin.” You say, your voice losing all its playfulness and growing serious like you had suddenly become sober.
You stare into his pretty blue eyes for a moment, letting your own flit between the two of his. You were watching for any change in his expression, any look of disgust or repulsion, but you don’t find any. He just keeps that same incredulous, lust-filled look on his face.
He looks over you as well. Your eyes were still so droopy and hazy, your lips parted like you’re manually breathing. You were so drunk that it almost hurt him. You weren’t going to remember a single thing in the morning, and the two of you would be back to square one because Armin would never be able to repeat to you what you said to him or admit his searing desire for you.
Armin can feel your grip on his shirt tighten once more, and instead of lifting your head to him, you pull him down to you.
“I need you,” You whisper, voice shaking with arousal, “Fuck me... please.”
Armin swallows hard, his arms beginning to shake under his weight. He was going to fucking explode. He needed a break, just a moment, anything so he can catch his breath and regain some of his composure.
Christ, he was so fucking hard. If you were sober, he wouldn’t hesitate for a single second to rip off both of your clothes and push his cock inside you.
“I can’t — you’re drunk,” He murmurs, and you can hear the hurt in his voice. You can hear the fact that he truly wanted to do what you begged him for.
“No, Armin, I want it. I need it. I mean it, I swear.” You plead, your hands pawing at his shirt like he was attempting to get away from you and you wanted him to stay. But Armin was set put, he wasn’t moving, he couldn’t move even if he wanted.
“I need your cock.”
“Not — not now. You need to sleep this off. You’re… you’re not yourself right now,” He takes his eyes off yours, closing them once more and squeezing them shut.
“I’ve — I’ve always wanted you though. Always, I promise.” You continue, hoping that somehow you’ll convince him.
It was true. You wish he could understand how true it was. All the guys you had gotten with after-parties, after football games… they were all just replacements, they were fill-ins for him. You would pretend that it was him that was filling you up, gripping your hips and whispering dirty things against your ear. And for seconds at a time, it would work and you would convince yourself that Armin was right there with you.
And every time you would see him helping another girl with school work, see them flirting with him and getting touchy with him, playing with his glasses or drawing shapes on his hands with a pen… this disgusting feeling would churn around in your stomach and bubble up into your throat. And although Armin was oblivious to their flirting, it still hurt so fucking bad.
“I’ve always wanted you too… just — just not like this. Just sleep it off, okay? And — and then we’ll talk.” His left hand wraps around your waist while his right switches to brace beside your head. He grabs ahold of your torso and shimmies you up the bed until your head meets the pillow.
He sits back on his calves, his left arm sliding out from under you while his right hand brushes your messy hair out of your face before petting your head.
“And, and you’ll fuck me in the morning?” You ask, completely genuine.
Armin swallows hard again, pulling himself away from you and helping you slide your body under your sheets, “If — if you still want me to.”
You look up to him with your eyes full of admiration as he smoothes the sheets over your body, “I’ll always want you to.”
It comes out sounding much more intimate than it actually is to say that ‘you’ll always want Armin to fuck you’. And Armin lets his eyes meet yours again, matching the love that’s filled them.
He smiles to hide the doubt he has inside his chest. In the morning, you’ll either regret every word and ghost him or you’ll forget everything you’ve admitted. Both options made Armin’s heart hurt, but he decides that you leaving him would be the worst of the two. He wouldn’t know what to do if you’d never talk to him again. So for now, he truly hopes you forget.
Armin pulls his hands away from you, shuffling his knees on the bed to get off of it. But before he can bring his feet to the ground, you grab ahold of his wrist.
“Stay, please.” You ask, your eyes struggling to stay open. He wonders if you even know that you’re talking.
He listens to you anyway, bringing his hand down to the mattress as he slips himself under the sheets and next to you. And if he wasn’t sure about staying before, he sure was now because you were so warm and so soft as you shimmied back against him. You take his arm and sling it over your waist, letting his palm splay out over your stomach. You can feel every rise of his chest against your back.
You were going to doze off so easily, he was so warm, he was so comforting. You could feel sleep beginning to creep up on you quickly. But before you let it take over, you slide your hand back and between your bodies to grab the source of the hard thing poking into your ass.
“You’re so hard,” You giggle.
Armin chokes on his breath again and grabs your wrist to pull your hand off his dick, “Stop. Go — go to bed.”
You listen this time, retracting your hand to slip it over his that rests on your stomach, interlacing your fingers as you succumb to your exhaustion.

Tsukishima had only looked away for a moment. He walked towards a fresh fruit stand, glancing at the peaches and wondering if you wanted one to snack on on the way home. He glanced back and his lips parted to ask you, but you were no where to be seen.
His lips turned into a frown, trying not to give into that small moment of panic as his eyes scanned the outside market. You were no where to be found nearby. His heart pulsed harder against his chest as his mind reminded him of that news story of girls going missing in public places. Tsukishima pushed through people, giving half-assed apologies as he thought about you being dragged away and no one noticing. How had he not noticed? How would he find you? What should he do now?
His heart raced as he continued to look for you, giving out a small yelp when he felt someone grab his hand.
“Tsukki?” You were suddenly next to him, smiling innocently up at him. “Are you okay?”
The rush of relief that came with seeing you next to him was followed with frustration. “Idiot! Where did you wander off to?” He scolded, his hand tightening on yours.
“There was a puppy,” you admitted with slight embarrassment, smiling shyly. “I just gave him a couple of pats - he looked so lonely. Everyone was ignoring him,” you explained, nodding towards an older man who was dozing off on a bench. He had a leash in his hand and a large dog sat next to his feet, eagerly watching people was if begging for someone to pet him.
Tsukishima shook his head in disbelief, “You scared me for a dog? Moron,” he grumbled, pulling you further into the market. He didn’t want to be in such a big crowd right now.
You giggled, trying not to note the redness in his ears, “Aw I’m sorry Tsukki, I didn’t mean to scare you.” You tugged on his arm gently, trying to give him an apologetic smile but he kept looking away from you.
“Whatever, get yourself lost for all I care,” he pouted slightly and you tried your best not to laugh at how such a tall boy could act like a 4 year old.
“I’ll stay with you, promise. Won’t ever leave your side!” you insisted, clutching his arm and beaming up at him.
Tsukishima glanced at your smile, noticing it looked... almost playful? “What?” He raised an eyebrow, already knowing he wasn’t going to like the answer.
“You care about me,” you teased, reaching up to poke his nose playfully. “You were worried about me because you careeee about me.” You had expected him to pull his arm away, stomp off until you apologized for making fun of him.
But instead he just rolled his eyes, flicking your forehead gently, “Maybe just a bit.”
That surprised you just a little, your heart skipping a beat or two in response, “I am sorry, Tsukki, I didn’t think I went off that far. It just got really crowded,” you told him sincerely, squeezing his hand gently. “But lucky for me! You’re so tall so it’s easy to find you!”
Tsukishima scoffed some more but blushed anyways, feeling now like he had overreacted, “Whatever. You’re buying me a snack to make it up to me, idiot.”
“Mmkay!” You beamed, the two of you roaming the market together. Tsukishima pretended like he had completely forgotten the whole thing, but you noticed that he never let go of your hand that easily after that. And he always kept you close in crowded areas.
So yeah, maybe Tsukishima Kei really did care for you.

Daichi is a calm cool collected dude. Calm. Cool. Collected. It was as if he was chanting these words in his brain, eyes frantically trying to find you. CALM COOL COLLECTED, he desperately tried to remind himself. Everything is FINE.
But that still didn’t answer the question: where the hell could you have gone off to?
It was one of the first big matches that Daichi ever invited you too and the crowds were 10x bigger than anything you’ve been to. Daichi’s whole body trembled with the idea that you were completely lost and waiting for him to find you.
“I’m sure she’s alright, Daichi! Y/N’s probably just exploring,” Asahi clapped a hand onto his friend’s shoulder, though Daichi could tell he was nervous too.
“Stop being such worry-bums,” Suga insisted, smacking both of their arms. “Y/N can be as scary as the rest of us! No one would pick on her!”
You were fully capable of dealing with things yourself, Daichi knew this. But he felt a surge of protective energy anytime he felt you needed him. “I’ll be right back,” he mumbled to his friends, his feet quickly running around the gyms to try and catch a glimpse of you.
“Daichi!” Your voice made his eyes widen, darting around to try to find you. Suddenly, he was attacked with a full on jump hug, staggering backwards to keep them upright.
“Y-Y/N! Where’ve you been?” Daichi asked with a laugh, holding you tightly and trying to avoid showing you how nervous he was.
“Coach Ukai told me Hinata left his shoes in the bus so I went to grab it before the game! Shimizu-san and Yachi were both busy so I wanted to help!” You explained, smiling up at him while holding the little bag up for him to see. Your eyes flickered over Daichi’s for a moment, noting the slight blush on his cheeks and the way he couldn’t fully meet your gaze. You couldn’t help but let out a giggle, your lips turning into a little smirk, “Were you worried about me, Daichi?” You teased and laughed as his face turned even more red.
“Well I can’t win without my lucky charm on the stands,” he chuckled, ruffling your hair.
“Oh and I just thought you liked me,” Y/N shot back with a laugh. “Didn’t know it was just cause of your game.”
You turned on your heel, starting to walk back to the gym, Daichi following while stammering out a, “I-I do liked you!” He tried to laugh off his nerves, rubbing the back of his neck as he gave you a smile, “Don’t make me all nervous before a game, love!”
You two shared some more laughs as everyone warmed up, and just before you headed to the stands, you pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. Daichi tried to play it off cool but he was wobbly the whole walk towards the team and the group of boys just laughed, all slapping his back in pride.

Unlike the Cap’n, Asahi is not calm, cool, or collected. I mean I think he’s cool but not in this sense LOL.
Asahi and you decided to have a picnic for lunch in a nearby park. But while he was setting up, you magically disappeared and Asahi felt all of his panic just intensify.
Did you? Leave him? To be on his own? Was this your way of breaking up with him?
No, Asahi tried to convince himself, you loved him. You guys had been together for almost a year now, that’s not how you’d end thins... is it?
Maybe you got lost? Did Asahi walk a little too fast to this spot? He knew sometimes you had a hard time keeping up with his long legs but he thought you had been holding his hand this whole time.
His eyes scanned the somewhat busy park. He couldn’t find you anywhere. His heart was starting to beat way too fast and his fingers were shaking while he tried to text the other third years to ask what the hell he should do.
Suga: LOL knowing Y/N she probably saw some cute chipmunk or something and stopped to take a photo of it
Daichi: don’t worry, Asahi, she’ll probably find you soon - you’re this gigantic dude in a park. I doubt she’d lose you
That didn’t help. Now Asahi was noticing how parents and kids were specifically avoiding him. His bottom lip pouted as he wondered just what he could do to seem less intimidating. Should he sit down? No, what if you were trying to see him? Sitting would only make it harder!
Just as he was considering climbing up the nearby tree to see the park from a higher distance, you popped out from some nearby bushes, holding a few wildflowers.
“Asahi?” You blinked in surprise, finding him trying to find a foothold on the tree. “Are we... eating in the tree?”
“Y/N!” The poor boy almost knocked his head on the tree when he turned around to see you, eyes widening. He immediately ran over to you and twirled you around in a hug, “God, you scared me!”
You quickly apologized profusely seeing how nervous he was, “I’m sorry, Asahi! I saw some pretty flowers over there and thought maybe it would be nice to decorate our tablecloth with!” You kiss his nose and cheeks over and over again trying to get him to calm down (but really that’s just making him more flustered).
The two of you share a gorgeous meal together, and you spend the rest of the day with his head in your lap and you braiding his hair, intertwining some of the flowers you found. The two of you talked about everything and anything and Asahi made sure from that day forward, he could always spot you. Any time you guys weren’t holding hands or standing next to each other, everyone noticed that Asahi’s eyes would dart over to you every now and then, whether consciously or unconsciously.
When he got home that night, he pressed the flowers you put in his hair in a book and kept them as a keepsake. And then gave them to you in a gift for your anniversary later.

Kageyama would start feeling panic and wouldn’t even know why. The game was starting soon and something just didn’t feel right. His muscles? No… he felt in tiptop shape. He stretched a little extra today too to make sure he wasn’t feeling stiff. His stomach? No, he made sure to have some food and milk a little earlier. And he wasn’t feeling nauseous so it couldn’t be that. His hands? No, they felt perfect in fact. He was so excited for this game earlier, he had felt the anticipation running to his fingers to just set the perfect ball. So why was he feeling so uncomfortable?
His eyebrows furrowed as he tried to think about what was making him feel different. His eyes scanned the crowd unconsciously before realizing what it was.
You weren’t standing up there with the rest of the Karasuno fans.
Where the hell were you?
His feet moved towards the gym doors before Ukai yelled at him, “Where the hell do you think you’re going, Kageyama? The game is staring soon!”
Kageyama’s eyes widened, noting the whole team watching him curiously. Why did Kageyama seem so nervous? He never seemed nervous.
“Don’t worry, Kageyama, with my spikes better than ever, we’re definitely going to win!” Hinata grinned, trying to lighten the tense air in the team.
“I’m not worried, just don’t be stupid on the court,” Kageyama replied, shrugging it off. But his eyes still scanned the stands. Where were you? You had said hello to the whole and wished Kageyama luck just a few minutes ago? So how come you weren’t standing up there with Coach’s friends and Yachi?
The whistle blew to indicate the game starting and Kageyama felt his stomach turn. Why was he feeling like this? You were probably fine so what did it matter?
You had been buying some milk from the nearby vending machines to make sure that Kageyama had some after his game. You knew that he had accidentally finished all the ones he had packed earlier and had been kinda crabby about it so you thought maybe it would cheer him up. You had stood in line for the vending machine for what felt like forever but it was all worth it knowing that you could throw the milk boxes into your lunch bag to keep them cool. Knowing Kageyama would be excited about it made you really happy.
As you walked back towards the gym, you could hear cheering. Your eyes widened as you realized that the game had already started and you ran towards the stands.
“Y/N! There you are!” Yachi’s smile looked oddly nervous. Not that she wasn’t normally nervous at these games, but this one seemed different. “I think something’s wrong with Kageyama.”
Your eyes shot down to the court, seeing how stiff Kageyama looked next to everyone else. They were patting him on the back, yelling “We’ll get the next one!” and Noya screaming, “BRING IT ON!”
“He was looking for you in the stands earlier I think,” Yachi told you with a small giggle, “He looked really nervous when he couldn’t see you.”
Your heart swelled slightly, wondering if Kageyama was off his game because he hadn’t been able to see you. “Kageyama!!” You yelled from the stands, cupping your hands around your mouth. The dark haired boy’s head shot up to look at you, a sense of relief growing on his face. “You can do it!!” You screamed some more, the people on the stands behind you yelling in support.
Even from far away, you could see his lips turn upward in a smile.
Alright, you both thought to yourself. Now we can get started.

A FEAST - Azriel x readder. Prompt - Reader is injured and knocked out for days. Cassian gets him to finally leave your side for one meal and Nyx brings a guest with him...
"The Dragons Song is the best one, hands down." Nesta argued, hacking through the brush.  "That one is full of the same scenes every time." You judged, pushing a branch out of the way. The jungle was a mess of twists and turns to work through, but thankfully one of the fishermen on the dock had sold you a compass at a descent price. "A little more right for a few more miles and we'll be there." You steered her on course.  "At least it dosent say 'honeydew' every scene." She made a fake gagging noise and you laughed. The sound was muffled in the crowded forest. She hacked her way through the brush, one vine at a time. Until you finally reached the clearing. It was hot in the direct sun, a few degrees different than what the shade of the forest had been. You paced the perimiter, meeting her at the other side. "You mean Cassian dosen't like honeydew?" You wiggled your eyebrows at her.  "Az does?" She challenged, earning a laugh from you. "The ones that you like are predictable beyond measure." You countered, earning a quick smile before your attention snapped across the meadow. To a giant hog serpent with venomous tusks that gleamed with their clear liquid. You swore and you and Nesta both drew swords at the same time.  + Nesta ended the hog, but not before it had the chance for those razor sharp tusks to marr your legs with deep wounds. The venom stung, flowing into your bloodstream and paralyzing you slowly. You gasped at the sheer blinding pain it brought. "Nes-" You choked out between sobs. "Tell Az... Tell Az I love him." You smiled to her, putting a hand on her cheek. "No, no way. You're gonna tell him yourself. Stay awake. We're on the way." She reached deep to that bond to Cassian, and a flare of alertness greeted her. Then, a thrill of fire. "On the way. Rhys will be there in a few. Are you okay?" "Fine, she's delirious. She needs a healer and a detox for the venom." She thought back, sighing when she felt Rhys' presence. "Wheres Az?" You managed out of your chattering teeth. You were losing the fight against the venom quickly. It would have you under in a few minutes if Rhys didn't hurry to a healer. He placed a hand on you and darkness surrounded.  "Cassian will-" He started to Nesta, "I know, get her safe." She rushed, urging him to winnow you already. When Cassian saw the amount of blood spilled, he cursed.  "Most of it was the beast." Nesta cleaned her sword on an overgrown leaf that jutted down into the meadow.  Her hands shook when she sheathed it. "Nes." He stopped her when she turned. "Nes..." He repeated, giving her a long look. She tried to hide her face, the terror there. "Lets go." He pulled her to his side and took off, holding her close to him. He said nothing about the tears that flowed to his shoulder. He just gripped her tighter.   + Azriel had nearly broken the door when he stormed in. And he hadn't left your side since. Nesta stayed when she could, letting Azriel relax enough to sleep now and again. He trusted her to wake him if anything changed in your status.  When he woke, he heard his brother's voice first. Quiet an hurried in tone, him and Nesta argued by the door. "He wont leave. You've already tried, just leave him alone." Nesta was scolding. Cassian gripped her hands, then whipped his head over to his brother when he saw him stretching on the bench.  "Hey Az-" Cassian smiled, bounding over to his brother like a puppy. "You remmeber Madja saying it may take up to a week, right? How about you come to dinner up at the house with us."  "I dont want to miss if she-" "Come on, Nyx will be there. Mor's coming back from the continent tonight too." Cassian tempted, poking at the old flame Azriel carried for the female. She was still incredible, and one of Azriels best friends, but he no longer felt that flame towards her. You had come along and crushed it with a bat of your eyelashes and a few quick witted insults at Cas. Nesta started pulling him away, giving you an apologetic smile. "It would be nice for you to be there is all he means." She began pushing him out the door, despite his protests.  "Think about it! She wouldn't want you to be mourning while she's alive!" Cassian shouted, earning a smack from Nesta. Azriel smiled despite the dark nature of the situation. He pulled a chair up beside your resting body. It had been three days. How would he know if you were awake or not? He tugged on that dark link you shared together, and came up with the same unresponsiveness as before. He sighed, but took your hand anyway, falling asleep again to the sound of your soft breathing. + He decided to stay for just an hour. He would spare his family that much. He kissed you goodbye and tried his best to ignore the guilt he felt for leaving you behind. But Cassian was right. He knew that when you woke up you'd be upset about him not going. So he put on his brave face and flew up to the house of wind, to the joy of everyone. They clapped upon his arrival, making his cheeks burn. Mor gave him a hug and promised to catch up. But she hovered around a fae you hadn't met yet. A female that she watched with wide sparkling eyes. Azriel's chest bloomed with pride at the sight of them being so close, so full of life for each other.  He looked away from the two, and sent his shadows out to Rhys. And found what he was seeking. He darted over to the end of the table where the high lord and lady sat across from each other. The head table was empty, and filthy. "That's a small monster if I've ever seen one." He bent and scooped Nyx up from under the table. He wriggled and laughed.  "No monster Azzy." Nyx babbled, pulling on his uncle's hair.  "No pulling hair!" Rhys scolded, making Nyx laugh even more. Feyre sighed. "You're just having fun. How about we go for a fly down to-" "Don't say it, Az." Rhy's tone went from scolding to pleading. Even though the baby couldn't fly yet, it was one of his favorite things to do. He could see how Rhys' son would be skilled at flying with just the way he angled his head when accompanying. Az poked at Nyx's belly and they fought like that for a few moments, Nyx eventually winnowing away with the joy only a child could have.  Azriel froze, looking to the high lord and lady for comfort. Having a baby disappear in your arms was strange, even for Fae babies. "When'd he start doing that?" "Four days ago." Feyre sighed. She looked utterly exhausted. "We've been having to take turns staying up with him." Rhys held her hand across the table, they shared a sweet look together then they both whipped their heads to Nyx in unison. "Dont-" Feyre warned, giving her son a stern look as he pulled at the tablecloth. Amren gave the boy a look of discouragement as well when he looked around for someone to be laughing with him. He stopped after those silver eyes met his.  Nesta gave Az a smile from across the room where she and Cassian welcomed the toddoling boy. "Let's start training, Nyxie. Come on, show me what you got." Cassian got on his knees to the floor and the two began wrestling together. Azriel took a seat beside Rhys, picking at the crackers and cheese platter before him.  "When were we planning on going back to the Island?" Rhys asked, voice low. Cassian rolled with Nyx on the ground, making Nesta laugh when the boy pulled at Cas' hair. "I'm not going until my mate is healed. Maybe you should send them, see how much trouble they can get in."  Az asked, trying to keep the hinting out of his voice. He wanted to go take care of it on his own. The mission on the Island was not complete and he didn't want to risk anyone again. He'd rather do it and make sure it was a finished job. He couldn't bare to see you be hurt over a fellow Valkyrie getting hurt either. "You know they would kill each other.... or themselves trying to protect the other." Feyre smiled despite herself. She knew it was the truth. Her sister being happy for once was a joy like no other.  "Mom and Dad need to eat, Az you too." Cassian ordered. He bounced the boy on his legs, making him pretend fly. Azriel picked at the plate that appeared before him. The warm meat and stew looked incredible, but he couldn't bring himself to eat. The guilt was the only thing that weighed in his stomach. "I should go check on-" He began to say, folding his napkin back on the table. "How is she?" Cassian interrupted from the floor. Nesta was playing with Nyx now, rattling a toy around for him. Azriel kept his calm mask on, trying to fight the urge to check on you. The black haired boy looked to her with upset eyes. "Auntie?" He said, voice a bit whiny.  "Auntie is napping, she'll be back in a little while." Nes assured. Azriel's heart squeezed at the love Nyx showed. Then, the boy was gone.  The parents were digging into their plates. It was likely the only meal they'd shared together in the four days of taking turns watching Nyx. "Rhys-" Az began, terror sweeping his gut. Nyx was no where in sight. Nesta and Cassian both shot to their feet when they didn't spot him.  Then, the plates in front of Azriel clattered and shot food everywhere. Mor and her date yelped and fled their chairs, mor pushing the other female behind her. Azriel's shadows coiled, siphons glared ready to fight.  And Rhys didnt move as he observed the waking fae before him. The tug on Azriel's bond went taut. "Auntie here!" Nyx celebrated, patting your chest. You groaned and cracked open your eyes to see Azriel's shadows swirling about you. "Are you okay?!" Azriel gripped your shoulders,  his warm hands seeping into your thin shirt. The sweats you wore were now stained with whatever food had been on the table. Rhys put down his fork slowly. "I wasn't expecting to be this kind of snack Az..." You said softly. Rhy's cheeks went red. Mor laughed first, her date looked to her with bewilderment and worry. Cassian rushed over and picked Nyx up from your stomach. "I think there's a fork in my back." You said, voice gruff.  A hysterical laugh bubbled from Azriel, then the rest of them were cracking up. "Nyx... Thanks." Azriel breathed, and the boy began clapping.  + Once you were back on your feet and Madja had given you the go ahead to take it easy, you asked Azriel to go on a walk with you. The stretch of your legs was sore, but the good kind of sore that left you feeling better and better with each step. The cool wind from the Sidra whipped around you. He wrapped a wing around both of you as you reached the apex of a bridge.  "I owe that baby everything." He laughed, squeezing your hand tighter. The city was quiet, only soft music coming from the Rainbow and the calm trickle of the Sidra sounding out. "Nyx the Valkyrie deliverer."  You laughed together, leaning against the railing on the bridge. The streetlights above cast a wonderful color over you, illuminating you both in a silvery shade that matched the moonlight. "I love you." You said, resting your head against his shoulder. It had been a long night, and who knew how long of sleeping... but you were tired.  "Love you." He nudged you away so he could hook his finger under your chin and angle you up to kiss him. You wrapped your arms around him and compiled, letting the bond hum through you like a song.

Don't drink and kiss
For @everythinghasreason. Happy (early) birthday! 🎈🎉

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"You didn't kiss me last night," Lily says, the words leaving her lips before she can control herself, very much like everything she remembers saying the night before.
Specifically an impromptu admission of exactly how she feels about her fellow Head Boy, who looks at her now with a startled expression on his face, the grin he had been spotting ever since she had first seen him in the morning slowly melting away from his lips. He watches her face as if he is trying to read her thoughts—and isn’t happy with whatever he is seeing there.
For a moment she thinks James will turn his back to her, ignoring her altogether, but then he shrugs, putting his hands in his pockets as if to keep him from messing his hair, and his face rearranges its features in the most carefree expression he has ever spotted.
"You were drunk," he says as if she needs a reminder, as if her head hasn't been buzzing all morning.
"So?" Her voice is still relenting on a strange bravado. Lily wonders if the alcohol is still fuelling her. "So were you."
"So I was," he agrees slowly. "And perhaps I'd rather snog someone who will remember it the next day."
"I would have."
James blinks, unsmiling. "I don't think so."
"I remember talking to you. And I… I said things, James. I know I did."
His eyes flash with something she doesn't understand. "That bit about how you can't stop thinking about me? Pretty sure you were talking to the firewhiskey."
His tone is teasing, but Lily hears the heaviness and while she'd thought that James would find some joy in hearing her confession, a sudden fear grips her heart. Perhaps she misunderstood everything: their banter, their conversations, their distracted touches. Their flirting. Perhaps he was never flirting back with her.
Shame floods her. Now she understands why he hasn't kissed her. Gods, how foolish did she act?
"Yeah, I drank too much," she agrees, voice dry, accepting his easy way out. "I will pay more attention next time."
He takes a second longer than necessary to answer her. "Already planning the next hangover, Evans? I am actually impressed."
She laughs, humourless as it is.
"One can never promise something they won't fulfill, Potter."
James looks at her, eyes searching for something in her face that Lily doesn't understand, before he takes a step back.
"You are right on that," he says, chagrinned, and with a nod from his head, he turns away from her.
She can’t help but feel as if she disappointed him somehow.
______
Lily picks up piece by piece what happened that night.
It's like solving a jigsaw puzzle. The borders she already has, all those pieces that remind her how loose she had felt with the first taste of firewhiskey, fuelled by a desire to do something daring.
James is there in those pieces, telling her to go easy even as he is already tipsy with his own shots of alcohol. It was his cautious caring warning that made her get her second taste, urging herself to just tell him how she felt.
By the third shot she called him for a dance, though they didn't dance as far as she remembers—the alcohol was enough for getting her the nerve to do it, not the ability. She remembers how they mostly tripped over each other, laughing and falling on a couch.
There is a gap between the fourth and the fifth shot, but she remembers that by the sixth shot they were together in a corner of the room, and staring at him, the words spilled out of her. The alcohol had acted as some kind of protection, a barrier against any fear, as Lily told James exactly what she had been feeling for him for a while now.
That's how far Lily has, so she collects the other pieces by hearing conversations, asking nonchalant questions to her friends, to his friends.
No one seems to know all the details, but from Mary she gathers how they slowly danced at some point that Lily attributes to the fourth or the fifth shot. Remus mentions watching James returning to their dorm very late in the night, grinning as if he had just won the Quidditch cup. Dorcas asks her if they are going out because she saw them holding hands at the end of the party. Sirius grumpily tells her she is a fool and refuses to say anything else.
Lily has a good picture by now, incomplete as it is. If her jigsaw puzzle was a painting of Hogwarts, she would have the lake and the forest already, but the castle, the center of the puzzle, it's still blank.
Then her dreams help her.
They don't make sense and at first Lily blames her imagination for just shaping everyone’s comment into what she wants. From Mary's comment, Lily dreams of her arms around James' neck, playing softly with his hair while he holds her waist, their feet moving together though they aren't really moving. Dreams aren't supposed to be this sensorial, but she swears she wakes up feeling his musky scent, the softness of the curls of his hair, as if he was there with her.
From Dorcas' tale, Lily dreams of steady hands, of feeling the callousness due to years of Quidditch practice, of a warmth that ran from his body to hers as they experimented holding hands, fingers intertwined together. He holds their joint hands, raises them and places a kiss at the back of her hand. Then he brings their hands over his heart; it’s beating fast, and it's because of her.
Neither Mary or Dorcas' tales were so colourful, so vivid, but Lily dreams of it and the edges of the castle are visible by then.
But no one tells her anything else and still Lily dreams more.
She thinks of hazel eyes shining with her confession, a hand touching her face, putting strands of her hair out of her face and leaving a trace of fire where he touches her.
She thinks of a sigh, hand falling back and a hopeless voice. You are just drunk, Evans, you don't mean that.
But she does, and she tells him and she makes a dangerous promise. He stares at her for some time, still unsure, but she knows there is only truth in her face. Then he believes in her, leans closer very slowly, still giving her plenty of time to draw back, to give up, to say she doesn’t want this.
Lily doesn’t remember much from that night, but she knows she wanted that kiss. She wanted him, long before she got her first taste of alcohol.
Her puzzle is almost complete, only two or three pieces missing that she can’t seem to place right. It feels as if she is assembling that puzzle in the dark, hoping the pieces will fit but unable to see the whole picture. She thinks of soft lips and warm hands, taste of firewhiskey and a musky smell, her name in a sigh, being held in place to keep from falling apart and she knows she would if not for him.
Her heart quickens when she realizes there is only one last piece missing, and a longing for something she should remember, but can’t, floods her.
A week after the first Quidditch match—a week during which, almost displicently, James avoids her—Lily seeks for him at last.
His friends are there in the Common Room, talking quietly to each other, but James isn’t in sight. She approaches them carefully; Remus and Peter nod at her, but Sirius frowns unhappily, giving her the same hard look he has thrown at her all week.
“Hey,” she calls, keeping her voice light. “Do you know where James is?”
“Why?” Sirius asks, crossing his arms and ignoring Remus’ nudge. “Decided to mess up with him a little more?”
Lily bites her lip. “No, the opposite.”
“Quite late for that—”
“He went for a fly,” Remus says, cutting Sirius. “You might find him in the Quidditch pitch.”
“Thanks,” says Lily, looking outside. The sun is setting. Then she glances back at Sirius. “I really want to fix this.”
“Then stay sober,” he says, and Lily flinches, but she supposes Sirius is right.
The walk to the Quidditch pitch is long, and her heart paces up with each step Lily takes. She knows what puzzle she is finishing by now, and she knows what piece she is missing, but despite her best efforts, she can't find it.
It bothers her a lot.
No wonder James is mad at her.
She doesn't see him flying in the Quidditch pitch and she is almost going back to the castle when she spots a lonely figure in the benches. She would recognize that messy hair anywhere, so she ventures the stairs to reach him.
James doesn’t turn to look at her, not even when the benches crack under her weight, doesn’t blink when she sits next to him and she wonders if he could recognize her from a distance as well.
“No more flying for today?” she asks, her voice light, eyeing the broomstick next to him.
He shrugs. “I didn’t actually fly. Thought about it, but then…” He grabs a bottle on his other side, lifts it in a mock salutation. “Drinking was better.”
And to prove his point, he takes a generous sip of the bottle.
“Getting drunk alone? That is just sad, Potter.”
There is a soft sight that could be scornful, but just sounds sad. “Tried getting drunk together. Didn’t work for me.”
She swallows dryly. “No, I guess not. I...I really messed that up, didn’t I?”
At this, James finally looks at her. His hazel eyes sweep over her face, in search of something that he doesn’t seem sure about, because he asks: “Did you remember after all?”
There is the faintest hope in his voice and Lily hates herself for being unable to give him the answer she wanted to have. “No.”
“Oh.” He runs his hand through his hair, closing his eyes for a moment. When he opens them, his face shines with guilt and regret. “Look, Evans, there is something—”
“We kissed,” she cuts him off, nodding, knowing it even as her mind is unable to actually grasp that memory.
James tilts his head slightly to the side and Lily wonders if he did the same while they were kissing. She has been wondering a lot these days, hating that blank space in her mind that she wishes more than anything she could fill.
“We did,” he admits, but there is none of the particular happiness Lily would associate with it. James looks just miserable. “And I am really sorry about it, I didn’t want to take advantage of—”
“You didn’t,” she assures him, fidgeting with her hands, fighting back an urge to just hold his hands.
“You don’t even remember it, Lily.”
“I remember enough. I remember telling you how I felt.”
“That was the firewhiskey talking, not—”
“The firewhiskey gave me courage, not words. What I felt—what I feel—had nothing to do with how much I drank.”
He shakes his head stubbornly. “Still, I should have known better. I shouldn’t have—”
“There is only one thing I’m truly sorry, James. And that’s for promising you I would remember and then—”
“You didn’t.”
“I broke my word,” she agrees, sorrowful. “Can… can you forgive me for that?”
He blinks, staring at her for a long minute before grabbing the bottle next to him and reading the label. “Maybe there is some kind of insanity essence here.”
“What?”
“I can’t believe you’re saying you’re sorry for forgetting it, not for what we did. I spent this whole week feeling horrible for leading you—”
“Is it so hard to believe that I fancy you?”
His gaze strays back to her.
“It depends. What have you drunk today?”
Lily smiles softly. “I haven’t had a sip of alcohol today.” She hesitates a second before sliding on the bench, closer to him. “I can let you get close to check if you want.”
James almost smiles too. “I’ll trust your word.”
“James—” she touches his hand now, watching him carefully for any sign he is repelled by her, but she finds none. His eyes fall to her hand and he watches with fascination as her hand traces his fingers, climbs over his arm, reaches his neck. She touches his hair, sees him shuddering under her touch; his skin is warm with the alcohol. “I really like you. And I would very much like to kiss you again for the first time.”
He sighs, his smile tender now. Lily expects him to move even closer, to close that annoying breach between them, but instead all he does is hold her hand, leaning into it and closing his eyes, before he kisses softly her wrist, over her pulse. His lips are warm.
When he opens his eyes, James just shakes his head. “I’m seeing you double and while it’s actually very nice seeing two Lily Evans, I think I should go.”
“Sure,” she says, hoping to not betray her disappointment. He rises, swinging dangerously on the spot, and she takes a step closer. “Help?” she offers.
James nods, accepting when Lily places her arm around his waist, steadying him.
The walk back to the castle is silent, but Lily doesn’t think it’s heavy. For all his silence, James seems to be only thoughtful. They ignore everyone else’s look and because he doesn’t complain, she helps him get back all the way to his dorm, until he is sitting on his bed.
James holds her hand as she is turning to leave him alone. His eyes are burning, but if anything, he looks only resolute.
“Would you like to go to Hogsmeade with me next weekend?”
“Is this alcohol talking?” she asks teasingly. He grins.
“You know, alcohol gives courage, not—”
“Not words,” she finishes for him. “I’d love to go with you. With one condition.”
“I don’t throw up over you right now?”
Lily laughs. “That would be nice, yeah, but actually, I would reinforce a non-alcohol policy.”
“Only butterbeer,” he agrees, beaming. And then before she can say anything, he approaches her face, tugs strands of her hair behind her ear and places a kiss at her cheek, his lips barely touching the corner of hers.
For the warmth that spreads from where his lips touch her down her body, Lily feels drunk again.
“See you tomorrow, Evans,” says James, laying more comfortably against the pillow in his bed, lips curved into a hopeful smile.
“I’ll wait for you with a Hangover Potion,” she promises him, watching him fondly.
“And that’s why I love you,” he whispers, sighing, and he closes his eyes, falling into a quick sleep.
Courage, she thinks. Not words.
Hopefully he will remember this little declaration the next day.

Leave Your Lover (Wanda Maximoff/ Reader)
Tumblr media
Hello! So, this was going to be one really long part, but it kind of got away from me and I had to split it into two. Don’t worry the next part is going to be very long either way because that’s the half that got away from me. This takes place pre-Infinity War. Inspired by Sam Smith’s “Leave Your Lover”, mainly the line featured.
Summary: A brief glimpse into life on the run. Will Wanda be able to find Y/n?
“If I can't have you I'll walk this life alone, spare you the rising storms and let the rivers flow.”
Being on the run was difficult to say the least and being on the run while trying to find someone who was actively trying not to be found was even worse. Despite being told by the rest of the group that it may be in her best interest to just move on and let you go, Wanda knew that wasn’t an option. She had made a promise to herself that she was going to keep fighting for you, no matter the cost. Wanda had let you go once and she wasn’t going to let it happen, not if there was a part of her that knew you still had love in your heart for her.
The only one who knew where you were at all times was Steve and he had spent the last few months absolutely refusing to disclose your exact location. That never stopped her from trying though.
Eventually though, he gave in. Steve wasn’t sure if it was her sheer determination that impressed him or the fact that he had never seen you happier than when you were with her. If she thought she could create happiness in a terrible situation, Steve thought she at least deserved a true chance and he wouldn’t stand in the way.
When she received the location, Wanda quickly packed what little she had and booked the next train ticket to Rennes, France. Feeling hopeful for the first time since long before the events of Lagos. _________________________________
For the majority of the time you’d been on the run, you stuck to the idea that hiding in plain sight was the best course of action. Which is why you were currently at a poorly lit bar, trying to live as normal a life as you possibly could under the circumstances. The only unfortunate thing was that you couldn’t interact with anyone due to the risk of being discovered. So, when you felt someone tap your shoulder, you knew it would be time to go.
Before turning, you downed your drink to prepare yourself to either get hit on by a random drunk person or convince them you weren’t who they thought you were.
Neither options were what you got when you turned around though. You tilted your head in pleasant surprise at the sight before you.
“Long time no see, stranger.”
Without thinking and perhaps partially due to the alcohol coursing through your veins, you wrapped yourself tightly around the woman in front of you. She laughed in surprise and gladly returned the embrace. You couldn’t help but revel in the contact, touch deprived from all the time you had spent in solitude.
For a while, you both just stood there, wrapped in one another’s embrace. Ignoring the occasional odd look from random passer byers. With one final squeeze, you released her but kept your hands on her shoulders. “You have no idea how good it is to see you, Nat.” you admitted to her with a smile on your face.
Natasha easily returned the smile. “It’s good to see you too. I was passing by outside when I thought I saw you sitting here and I had to see if it was really you.”
“What are the chances?” you asked with a laugh as you signaled the bartender over and ordered drinks. “Let’s celebrate.”
After drinking for a bit and catching up slightly, you both agreed that staying longer would be too much a risk and decided to take a walk outside.
“You dyed your hair.” You noted as you reached over and took a strand of her hair gently in between your fingers before letting it go. “It looks good.”
A playful smirk spread across Natasha’s lips. “Yeah, well, I figured the red was a dead giveaway for me, so… blonde it was.” She nudged you playfully. “A better disguise than a beanie and glasses at least. You’re no better than Rogers.”
A boisterous laugh escaped your lips, “What can I say? That man taught me everything I know.” Natasha shook her head but laughed despite herself.
You knew you would have to separate soon, but you tried not to focus on that. The pair of you walked in contented silence, enjoying the comfort of not being alone, even if it was temporarily.  Eventually you both come up on the street where your hideout was located and for the first time you didn’t feel the need to rush in. Thankfully there was a small bench located across the street and you both wandered over and took a seat, enjoying the cool air.
“How have you been?” Natasha eventually asked, her eyes on yours as she attempted to analyze you.
You pondered the question for a moment. “I’ve been… lonely.” You finally breathed out, turning your gaze skyward. “I feel alone. I miss real connections. I miss just being able to walk down the street without fear of corporal punishment. I miss human contact.”
Natasha’s hand fell to your knee and squeezed lightly. You turned your head to meet her eyes. “I know what you mean. You’re never really alone though, Y/n. You know we’d all be there in a heartbeat if we could, if we have to.”
The touch and the knowledge that you weren’t alone was something you had missed. Again, whether it was the alcohol in both your systems or the deprivation of another human’s touch, but you both found yourselves leaning forward and connecting lips.
It was gentle and nice, but you couldn’t help but compare it to Wanda. Kissing Wanda always felt powerful and right. The way your whole body felt like electricity was coursing through your veins at the simplest of touches. Kissing Wanda always felt like coming home. You could’t help but think you needed this to realize that the one you still wanted was the one you shouldn’t want.
Despite this, you didn’t pull away, tangling your hand in Natasha’s now blonde locks as her hands fell to your waist. You allowed yourself this small moment of comfort.
Across the street, Wanda had been approaching only to stop in horror at the sight before her. Her mind rushing and heart breaking at the sight. If she felt a fraction of what you did that night on the roof, she couldn’t imagine how you got through it. As much as her heart ached in her chest, she didn’t allow it to stop her. She just hoped it wasn’t too late. That you hadn’t already given your heart to another.
After some time, both you and Natasha pulled away. Laughing when you met one another’s eyes. “That was… nice.” You said lightly.
Natasha rolled her eyes and pushed your shoulder. “Yeah, we’re drunk. We will never speak of this again.” She chuckled and looked at her watch. “My train leaves in a little over an hour, I should probably go.” You nodded in understanding and she hugged you once more before beginning to walk away.
“Hey, Nat?” you called after her. She turned. “Take care of yourself, okay?” She nodded and blew a teasing kiss your way before walking off into the night. With a sigh you leaned into the bench and closed your eyes for a moment, taking in the fact that you were alone again.
It had to have been less than a few minutes when you felt someone sit next to you, your eyes shot open and met with stunning emerald eyes that used to be your world. “Wanda?” you whispered, feeling the air leave your lungs at the sight of her.
Wanda quirked her lips up slightly, but there was melancholy in her eyes. “So, you and Nat, huh?” There was no accusation in her tone, just sadness. Possibly even acceptance. You quickly realized that she must have seen the kiss.
“And if we are? Together, I mean. What will you do?” You probed challengingly.
Pain flooded her eyes as she dropped her gaze to her lap. “Nothing. I’m not going to interfere if you’re happy, but… but just know that I won’t stop fighting for you. I’ll be here waiting because our love is destined and I’m not going away. I’ll still love you even if you chose to love someone else. You have all of me. Always.” She paused slightly. “You are my only direction.” She added quietly, repeating the words you once told her back to you.
Your heart clenched at the referenced moment, of one of your formerly favorite moments.
Staring off into the distance, you could feel the numbness begin to fade as the alcohol started to leave your system. “Why?”
She lifted her gaze up to you curiously, but you didn’t meet her eyes. “Why what?”
“Why do you keep trying?”
Wanda took a deep breath and turned so she was facing you completely even if you wouldn’t look at her. “Love.” She stated simply, “I’m in love with you, beyond all rationality. Even if you don’t believe me. I want you to have everything you want, even if its Nat, even if that destroys me.”
Even in Spain you had never heard her speak so passionately. It terrified you. Terrified you so much that you wanted to get up and run far, far away from her. Far from the feelings that her words stirred within you.
Wanda wasn’t done though, she needed to get everything off her chest. To lay all her cards out. “When you love someone, you don’t stop. Even when everyone on the team calls me crazy and tells me I should just move on and let you go. I won’t stop or give up because if I could give up…” She risked taking your hand in hers, sighing in relief when you don’t pull back. “If I could give up and listen to everyone’s advice and move on and find someone else that wouldn’t be love. That would be some imitation that is not worth fighting for.”
“Wanda…” you whispered finally looking up at her, noticing the way her eyes shined with unshed tears.
She squeezed your hand again. “But you… You are more than worth fighting for. You will always be worth fighting for. And if I can’t have you I’ll be alone because no one else can hold my heart. This is love.”
“I’m not with Natasha.” You admitted softly after Wanda’s declaration, watching the way relief filled her eyes. “I think we were both just lonely and comforting each other.”
The relieved smile that took over Wanda’s features was contagious as you couldn’t help but smile hesitantly back at her.
Wanda’s heart fluttered at the sight. That was the first time you had smiled at her since the night on the roof.
“What does that mean?” she questioned hopefully.
With hesitation, you interlaced your fingers with Wanda’s. “It means that I’m still not sure I trust you and I’m not ready to be with you again.” Her head dropped in dejection. “But. I’m not going to ask you to leave if you want to stay and work on that.”
For the first time in a long time, Wanda felt a semblance of happiness blossom in her chest. Unable to stop herself, she surged forward and took you in her arms, melting when you held her back. “I promise I’ll earn your trust back. I’m not going anywhere. I’d follow you to the ends of the earth, Y/n.”
Part 10! double digits! Pre-Infinity War and Infinity war was supposed to be one chapter and in hindsight that was probably overly ambitious of me. That means there will now be 13 parts instead of 12. Anyway, as always let me know what you think, and hope you enjoyed! :)

Duskwood
Jake x MC
Plot : Jake and MC are together and they're having a heart to heart moment.
Tumblr media
(credits go to the owners of the pics and Duskwood game. I don't own them and I don't own the characters. I just own the collage and one-shot!😉)
----------------------------------------------------------
I am lying on the small bed that I share with one of the most precious soul I have ever let in my life. My boyfriend, Jake... The Hacker that entered my life and turned it upside down. But in a good way, if I may say so... Well, let's say he kind of gives me another sight about life. Before, I was randomly waking up and would get ready to go to work. A normal boring day that we all know so well. Now, I'm here helping to help a group of friends that I never even met but that I got well along with. There are ups and downs, there are happy and sad moments, but we walk through the fire to find Hannah Donfort. I guess we can say it's because of this missing person that I am connected and met those people. And more important, that I met Jake...
I sit upright on the bed when I hear the familiar sound of an electronic material. Jake is working on some stuff that he wanted to do on his own. I let him do. I know Jake isn't the type of person that feels at ease with people. Me being here with him is already, and practically, a miracle. I froze for a minute when he accepted for us to meet after I had demand him hundreds of times. I don't know if he said "yes" because he wanted to see me in real life more than anything or if he got tired of my demands... I sometimes think he isn't all sure about this. That he might regret involving me much more than before just because I am living with him. But I'm not scared, so I don't want him to feel this way. Well... Yes, I am scared, but not for myself. I fear for him and the others living in Duskwood. I don't want this situation with Hannah to hurt him. It'll break me to see him devasted... Hopeless... Disappointed, because I know he will think that he didn't do enough to find Hannah when he actually did more than all of us. Anyway... I can't do anything about it right now...
I get up, pass my hand in my hair and walk quietly towards Jake. He looks exhausted. The bags under his eyes aren't the only proof that he is exhausted. The amount of coffee he is drinking and the number of times I slept alone in his bed are proofs as well. I wrap my arms around him as I just saw him resting completely on his chair. My chin rest on top of his head when I feel him letting a long sigh out.
- You need to rest, Jake, I tell him seriously and gently at the same time.
- I cannot, MC, he simply answers as he passes his hand over his eyes to rub them.
- You'll work much better if you rest a bit. But that's up to you I guess, I say as I pull away from him. I know he doesn't like hugs that much. And I'm all the contrary... But I respect his space. I was about to turn around when he catches my wrist.
- I will rest, I promise, MC. But for now, I just need to work on something first. And I need your help with it. Do you mind working with me a little bit? He tells and asks me gently as he softly rubs his thumb on my wrist. Mr. Hacker asking me to work with him... I smile and nod gently my head up and down.
- I'm so tired, but I'll make an exception. I'll do anything for you, Jake, I say with a playing and slight dramatic tone, knowing it will make him fluster. Jake smiles and looks away, still not used to how easy it is for me to make him feel this way.
- I know. Me too. But we have to do this work. Waiting could be a disaster, he says with seriousness, turning back to his computer. I guess he isn't wrong... I'm slowly getting used to him not showing or sharing much emotions. I know it's not against me.
- I know, I respond as I take sit on the barely small space next to him that is a vulgar piece of wood that is supposed to look like a bench. Supposed... Oh... I look at my phone that was charging next to his computer since there isn't much power outlets around here. It's Jessy. I take a look at what she sent me and see a picture of her and Richy working at his garage. Or more like they're taking a break... Some people seem to have fun, I state with a small smile, happy that they can enjoy a little moment, while things are calm. It can escalate pretty fast. Jake smiles when he saw my smile.
- "You two look cute!" I send to them both in our group chat.
- "😳" replies, Richy.
- "🤭" adds, Jessy. I smile and put my phone back down to concentrate on the work Jake wants to do.
- MC? I look up at him while humming positively. What would you like to do? Call the last number on Hannah's phone log or take notes of your friends private chat? He demands me with such a gentle voice. Honestly, hearing his distorted voice was impressive at first. I never knew what his real voice sounded like. But being able to hear it now and always, it's just... It makes me feel butterflies. It's just so soothing and calm and... It's Jake.
- We're spying them again? Why? I ask him with a confused tone while frowning. I don't like spying on them to be honest. Even if I know that we have to...
- I just want to make sure we did not forget anything. We never know if one of them is hiding something and revealed it by inadvertence, he responds seriously as he logs onto everyone's chat. When I watch him do, those computer stuffs just look so easy. But when I think further about it, I don't even know what key he pressed on the keyboard to make this happen.
- Hum... I think I'll take the phone log, I reply after thinking a few seconds. No offense but I think between us two, I'm the one who is more at ease when it comes talking to people and you're much more qualified than I am when it comes to computers, I wink at the boy as I crack a smile. Jake smiles back amused and nods positively.
- None taken. You're right, he tells me. I give him one last smile before grabbing the printed phone log. MC? I stop and look up at him, waiting for him to talk. But no words seem to come out from his mouth. I can see that he wants something but he... Probably doesn't know how to formulate his demand? I was about to call him when Jake suddenly gets up. Oh... His height always gets me. I know I'm not the tallest person in Earth but Jake is quiet tall... He takes the phone log from my hand and puts it down. What is he doing? I look at him confused despite the smile on my face. Timidly, he wraps my waist after bending down a bit and delicately places a kiss on my lips. The fireworks that it causes down my chest... Wow! It's not our first kiss but this feeling... I still haven't got used to it, but it's one of the best I've ever felt. It just feels so right, even if it's just a long peck. I wrap my arms around his neck to keep him closer to me a little longer. But Jake pulls away after a few seconds. Once you're done, please, take a break and rest a bit, he tells me kindly as he caressed my cheek with his hand. What? And him?
- And let you work alone? Not a chance, I reply while shaking my head negatively.
- MC... He calls me with a little sigh.
- Jake... I imitate him which makes him crack a small smile. I smile back. I'll be done in a few minutes, I say with a motivated tone as I grab the sheet he took from me. My left hand still behind his neck, I gently force him to bend down before placing a delicate kiss on his neck. Okay, I've got work to do! I go to the other side of the room and start making the last calls. Well, "call" should I say... There's only one number left. I listen to the beeping sound before someone picks up the call. Oh... Duskwood is really a small town... Phil Hawkins. I write down his name before receiving a notification saying Phil added me. Well... I guess another work is calling for me now. Okay, I'm done, I say as I go back to Jake. And you'll never guess who it was, I tell him, standing by his side.
- Who was it? He asks me, looking curious.
- Phil Hawkins, I respond. Jake lightly frowns to my answer. I let him think for a moment.
- Jessica's brother? He asks me with a confused tone. I nod positively. Why? Wait, who called who? He bombards me with questions. He clearly didn't see this coming.
- I don't know yet and I think it's Hannah who called him, I respond to my boyfriend. Jake keeps this confused frown over his face, looking like he speculates a lot about it. Almost like it seems to bother him in a way. Or maybe I interprete it wrong... What can I do next? I ask him, getting him out of his thoughts. Jake doesn't answer me and finishes writing something down. I see we have more information! That's great! I hope they'll be useful at least... Because having information, it's great but if they're irrelevant... It's like having nothing. He closes the window of Thomas's messages.
- Nothing for the moment, he tells me as he rests on his chair.
- Jake... I call him, doubting his answer. He's not saying this just because he wants me to rest?
- Come here, he suddenly says as he moves a bit backwards with his chair, letting space for me. Oh... Surprised, I crack a small smile and move closer to him as Jake takes hold of my wrist. He pulls me closer and closer to him until I am sitting on his lap. My back is facing him. His arms come around my waist, enlacing it. He can be so sweet when he isn't so focus on this situation in Duskwood. He rests his head on my shoulder. I know I said we should not waste time but it does not mean we cannot take a small break, he whispers next to my ear, making my whole body shiver. I smile with surprise and happiness, feeling those butterflies once again.
- I agree, I say back as I look at all of the material set before me. What's that? A code? Wow... Honestly, I don't know how you understand all of this. It's Chinese to me, I say with a serious and impressed tone while chuckling to my unknowledge. I hear Jake quietly chuckling back as one of his hands comes holding one of mines. At the same time, he places a kiss in my neck. How did you learn all of this? Who taught you? I ask him with curiousness.
- Myself. Computers were all I have that allowed me to be who I was back then, and today still, he admits to me. I nod, being honestly impressed. It kind of makes me sad to hear him saying this, but happy at the same time. He didn't have much people loving him when he was younger but he had his passion at least... That's... Something, right? Even if it doesn't replace people. Now that I said it out loud, I feel like I sound like an idiot, he says with an unsure tone towards himself.
- No, of course not. You have a passion. It's good Jake. And look, if you hadn't had it, what would we be doing right now? Where would we be? Not only we wouldn't be able to help Hannah but we would have never met, I tell him seriously, trying to show him how good this is for him that he knows so much about computers. And for us...
- I don't know, he responds with the same unsure tone. I stare at the screen before me when I suddenly feel Jake moving his head from my shoulder to rest completely on his chair one again. Do you regret it? He suddenly asks me. What? Regret what?
- What? I ask him, confused. I turn a bit to look at him all while staying on his lap. Jake keeps one arm around my waist to prevent me from falling, his hand still holding mine. Why is he so silent suddenly? I squeeze his hand, giving him comfort. Jake suddenly locks his eyes in mine. Those baby blue eyes... How can you not fall in love with those? However, the emotion that I witness in his eyes actually hurts me. Is he not happy? Is he okay? Did he see something about Hannah? What's going on?
- Do you regret being with me? He suddenly asks me. What? Having to hide in this ruined hideout? Having to live with my burden from the day I told you the whole truth about who I am and that the Government wants me? To have to live in fear for people you never even met and for us? To have to lie to them or hide things from them because I asked you? Do you not want the life you had before all of this? He asks me seriously which, I have to admit, I didn't see coming. Why is he asking so many questions? Why is he wondering all of that? Why does he even think about those? Staying quiet, I move from his lap only to sit back on it. But instead of having my back facing him, I am now actually facing my boyfriend. My arms wrap his neck as he shyly holds me by my waist. I take a deep breath in as my eyes keep alternating between his soft lips and his ocean eyes.
- I don't regret anything, Jake, I tell him sincerely while shaking my head left to right. I love being here with you. I don't mind lying to everyone if it's for their protection. I do what I have to do, I assure him, keeping the same sincere tone. Jake looks down, as if he is scared to believe my words. However, I make him look back up at me. And I absolutely don't regret the choice I made when I decided to join your side, my hands gently cup his face as I saw him trying to look away once again. I love you, Jake. I love you so much that just the idea of being far from you or not having any contact with you anymore hurts me so deeply, his eyes are locked in mine. His unsure and scared look makes my heart in pain. I just want to comfort him and... I want him to feel comfortable with me too. I want him to feel just as important than I am to him. You had such a huge impact on my life... A good impact. You gave purpose to it. Even if it involves dangerous situations, even if it involves breaking the law, I don't care. I love you... Loving you, being with you, knowing you're safe, alive, and okay, I say as I slide my right hand down to place it over his heart, that's all I care about, I tell him with honesty as my eyes never looked away from him. I don't know what he exactly needs to hear but I just hope my words will be enough for him to change his perspective on our relationship. Jake clears his throat as he slowly sits a bit more upright. What is he...? He surprisingly easily lifts me a bit only to bring me a bit more closer onto his lap. He tightens his grip after enlacing my back, hugging me so tightly. Oh...!
- I'm not good at expressing what I feel but... But you mean so much to me, MC. You're... He says before stopping himself from talking more. I hear my boyfriend taking a deep breath in and out as he hides his head in my neck.
- It's okay, Jake, I whisper as I know it's hard for him to talk about his feelings. But hearing him making an effort to do it... I just appreciate it so much. His hold tightens around me.
- No, I... You are the best thing that happened to me, MC. And it's scary, he admits to me with difficulty. The best thing... I can't help but to smile at the sound of his words. However his last words worry me. What does he mean?
- Why? What do you mean? I ask him as I run my hand up and down his back. Jake suddenly pulls away from me to look into my eyes.
- I... I never had anything like I have with you before. Being with you. Holding you. Kissing you. Talking with you about everything and anything without feeling judge... Being able to be myself with you... He says as he pushes the lock of my hair that was slowly falling over my eyes. Solving this situation with Hannah. Meeting under this situation... I wish we had met under different circumstances. It's wrong what we do together... But it feels so right. You being with me feels right to me even though it's wrong... He tells me with a serious and slight confused tone. And... I think he actually sounded like he was Getting upset at himself for... Involving me in this mess, I guess.
- Jake, I call him, interrupting him in his speech. He stops talking instantly when he heard The sound of my voice. What scares you? I ask him, going straight to the point.
- If anything goes wrong... If... What if you leave me one day? What if... He says with struggle, able to formulate his question correctly.
- I'm not leaving, Jake, I assure him seriously and sincerely.
- But what if you are lured and none of us saw it coming and you just... Disappear. What if I never see you again? He tells me with seriousness and fear in his voice. I hate hearing this emotion in his voice... I don't want him to be scared. I will never pardon myself for this, MC. And I will never get over losing you either, he confesses. He's getting nervous and almost anxious. At this point, it's not just us that worries him, it's a whole and the fatigue.
- That'll never happen, Jake, I say firmly and with a comforting tone. Though, I can see the reluctant look he has over his face. You trust me? I ask him.
- Unconditionally, he immediately answers, not doubting one second.
- Then don't be scare, Jake. I assure you that it won't happen because I'm not leaving your side and you're not leaving mine. Okay? The Man Without a Face needs to do much better to trap us to take me away from you and so does the government to find our location. We're together in this now, I say as I grab one of his hands. It's a choice I made to join your wild adventures and I want you to respect it and to never doubt it. Just like I do with you, I tell him with the same comforting tone all while telling him my wish and point of view. Staying quiet, Jake timidly looks at me. I crack a smile before leaning in to place a sweet kiss on his soft lips. However, before I could do it, Jake stops me. What...? Why? He...
- I... I love... You, he whispers with struggle. Wow... I think... No, I know... It's the first time that I hear him saying those words. It's surprising coming from him, but it sounds so right. It sounds like a melody. I wanted to be the one to give him a kiss, but Jake didn't let me the honor. Instead, he is the one to give me a kiss to which I answer without wasting time. Our lips move in synch, melting perfectly with each other. The kiss deepens slowly, forgetting what's around us for a moment. Time stand still.
I love him... I love him so much that words wouldn't be able to describe my feelings. Jake is a unique person, I know that. But damn, he's my person. I feel it. I know it. And I hope he feels the same with me. We're ordinary people with a not so ordinary life, but that's who we are.

A Miraculous Reveal: An Unintended Confession
When Marinette left her house this morning, she had no intention of confessing her love to Adrien. None at all. She had given that up months ago.
Not her feelings! Never those! Adrien’s mere presence could still twist her into a blushing bag of mixed up words when he caught her off guard.
But she had given up on the idea of confessing because she couldn’t act on any feelings she had. Her whole fiasco with Luka had more than proved she couldn’t actually date anyone - at least, not while she had to keep half her life a secret.
But Adrien had looked so sad, and completely dejected when she found him. His words alone would have broken her heart. She had to do something.
And confessing definitely had not been her first idea, but like, her brain and her mouth weren’t connected. Not when within a two meter radius of Adrien Agreste.
She had found him slumped on a park bench next to what had obviously been a photo shoot that was in the process of being torn down.
“Adrien, are you okay?” she asked, taking a seat beside him.
He started, jumped a good ten centimeters off the bench before his wide green eyes landed on her. His whole form relaxed when he recognized her.
“Hi Marinette,” he said, flashing her a smile as bright as the sun.
And she realized in that moment that he was really good at faking smiles. Which made sense with him being a model and all. She just hadn’t ever thought about it in those terms before.
How many bad days had she missed?
Read on Ao3
“Did you enjoy the shoot?” he asked.
“You don’t have to pretend with me, you know,” she said softly, ignoring his question.
“What do you mean?” He sounded like he was completely confused. Even his eyebrows furrowed together in thought.
She would have bought it too, if she hadn’t seen him before he knew she was there, if he hadn’t glanced away from her before he responded.
“Adrien, you don’t have to pretend to be okay when you’re not. Not with me.”
He stared at her in shock, letting the smile fall off his face. “I don’t?” he asked.
“No, of course not! I’m your friend. I want to know when you’re having a bad day. I want to try and cheer you up, listen to your problems, or whatever you think would help.”
“I don’t want to be a burden,” he admitted.
“You aren’t a burden for having a bad day,” she insisted.
“What if it’s not just a bad day?” he asked, glancing away again, out toward the park. “What if I’ve been feeling like this for a long time?”
Her heart twisted painfully in her chest. She had missed a lot then. But that wasn’t important. The important thing was that he was hurting, and now that she knew, maybe she could do something.
“Then, I think it’s even more important that you have support.”
The silence hung between them, and she agonized over what to say to fill it.
“And you don’t have to tell me anything either, but you can talk to me about anything. I’m happy to listen if you want,” she offered.
“Thank you, Marinette,” he said, smiling softly in that way that made her stomach flip. “You’re very kind.”
And then he didn’t say anything else, and Marinette willed herself not to be disappointed. This wasn’t about her. He didn’t have to confide in her if he didn’t want to. It was about him.
So she just sat with him, hoping her presence brought some comfort.
“I hate modeling,” he said into the empty space between them. “I only originally agreed to do it because I was hoping I would get to spend more time with my father.”
She hadn’t known that. She had always thought being a model would be interesting, but well, she was super into fashion. She supposed it wouldn’t necessarily be the same for Adrien.
“Did it not work out that way?”
“Oh, no, it kind of did work. Only now, the times I see him, he’s just criticizing every shot that I didn’t do perfectly.”
“That doesn’t seem fair.” She knew how hard Adrien worked.
“And today, I just didn’t have the right headspace because I already messed something else up earlier. So, I’m kinda dreading going home.”
“I’m so sorry,” she said.
“I just don’t seem to be able to do anything right anymore,” he said.
“I take it this is about more than the photoshoot just now?” And she felt silly the second the question was out of her mouth because hadn’t he already said he had been feeling this way for awhile?
“I… yeah… I have this… friend. She and I do… uh… community service together. We worked really well, and have managed to accomplish a lot I think. I loved spending time with her and the work we were doing was meaningful. I thought… I don’t know… maybe that I could do it forever. Especially if I was doing it with her.” And he got this wistful smile on his face for a second, but then it faded, and she couldn’t help but echo his expression.
“What happened?” she asked.
He shrugged. “I don’t know. She got promoted and didn’t have as much time for me. The team also got bigger, and suddenly there were half a dozen others that could do the things I used to do. And I don’t know… I don’t feel needed anymore. I feel like I could just not show up and no one would notice.”
“And I don’t need to be the best or anything. I don’t even really need to be needed. I just… I don’t want to be forgotten,” he whispered.
“No one could forget you,” Marinette insisted.
He grew silent again.
She drummed her fingers on the bench silently, feeling like she had said the wrong thing, but not knowing what else to say to fix it.
She risked a glance at him, and his gaze was locked on the park in front of them.
“Marinette, do you think anyone could ever love me?”
She almost laughed at the question.
“Adrien, I know someone could love you.”
He turned towards her, his face open and vulnerable. “You do? How?”
She didn’t even think about it. “Because I love you.”
“Y-you love me?” he repeated, his green eyes suddenly so wide she could fall into them.
“Yeah…” she confirmed softly, glancing down into her lap as her cheeks suddenly warmed. “I’ve been in love with you since the day we met.” The words left her mouth - smooth like water - like it was the easiest thing in the world to say - like she hadn’t been struggling to string this one sentence together for months upon months.
“What?”
“Since you gave me your umbrella,” she whispered.
…
Since he had given her his umbrella? But… that was ages ago. That was the day they had met! He remembered that moment because it was the first time he felt he had made a friend on his own.
How on earth had he won Marinette’s affections? And so quickly, too? It felt too good to be true.
He stared at her in disbelief. Her cheeks were the color of pink rosebuds, and her eyes were positively shining in the afternoon sunlight. She was looking down into her hands, but her lips curled into a small smile, and he found himself mirroring her expression.
She loved him.
Something within him burst in warmth - like a flower exposed to the sunlight first thing in the morning.
He really liked the idea of being Marinette’s special someone. Of being her boyfriend and her partner.
He never thought he’d be ready to move on from Ladybug. He had tried that with Kagami and that hadn’t exactly gone well, but with Marinette? Maybe… just maybe, it was possible! Marinette who was self-righteous, clever, and just so good and so caring. Marinette who seemed to see something worthwhile in him.
And in Chat Noir, too.
It would be too easy to throw himself into a relationship with her. He would hold nothing back.
He reached out and took her hand. Startled blue eyes flew to his.
“W-would you like to go on a date?” he asked, his throat had fallen into his gut with every rapid beat of his heart.
He wasn’t sure what he had been expecting, but her eyes flooding with tears and pulling out of his grasp, was not it.
“Marinette?” he asked when she started shaking with silent tears.
“I want to!” she sobbed. “But I can’t!”
“You can’t… go on a date?”
She nodded rapidly. “I can’t be your girlfriend,” she told him, the tears still falling down her face.
He didn’t understand. Hadn’t she just confessed to him?
He looked away.
Or maybe she just didn’t want the spotlight being Adrien Agreste’s girlfriend would thrust her in. Maybe that wasn’t something she was willing to put up with. Maybe she didn’t want to jeopardize her future career.
Or maybe, she didn’t love him at all.
Maybe she had just said it to make him feel better.
He felt his body crumpling in on itself. He tried to focus on his breathing. He had to keep it together. He couldn’t let her see his hurt. He swallowed convulsively, trying to push down every bit of the pain he was feeling.
She grabbed his hand. “Please don’t cry,” she begged, her voice cracking with emotion.
Shit. Was he crying?
He touched his free hand to his face.
He was. Fuck.
“I’m… I’m sorry,” he managed, squeezing his eyes against the tears.
“No! I’m sorry!” she cried. “I didn’t mean to give you false hope. I just… I have a secret. And well… it destroyed my last relationship. And… I don’t think I could bear it if we were together and then my secret destroyed us, too. I’ve loved you for so long, and I love you so much.”
He knew all about secrets destroying relationships. She was probably right. He thought it would be harder to get over losing Marinette than it had been losing Kagami.
But some ugly corner of his mind also threw a tantrum. What was it about him that was so untrustworthy that no one would share their secrets with him?
What had he done wrong?
“I’m Ladybug!” she blurted out.
His eyes grew to the size of craters. “W-What?” But even with the question out of his mouth his brain refused to process her words.
If he did, he’d have to admit that she had chosen to trust a civilian, a failed temp hero, over her superhero partner who had been by her side and backing her up since the very beginning.
And he couldn’t handle that.
But when he looked up at her, her eyes were as wide as his own, her hands clamped over her mouth.
“No!” she shrieked. “Please tell me that I didn’t just say that!”
“You’re Ladybug?” he repeated.
“No!” Her hands now clamped over her ears. “This can’t be happening! What is wrong with me?”
Normally, her self recriminations would have grounded him, but today, he was only angry. So angry the world blurred around him. He wanted to tear away, to run, to scream.
To destroy something.
But he didn’t. He just sat there with his fists curled into tight angry balls, his heartbeat roaring in his head. He had no idea what to say.
How could she do this to him?
“I just… You probably hate me now,” she sobbed.
And that was it, wasn’t it? He didn’t hate her. He couldn’t hate her.
Sometimes, and maybe in this moment in particular, he wished that he could.
But he wasn’t capable of it.
He had seen Ladybug in her lowest moments. He knew the burden she carried. And he had seen her rise above it again and again.
He had seen Marinette in some of her best moments, where she was a beacon of light and warmth in his cold and grey world.
“I don’t hate you,” he whispered. “I could never hate you. I just… I don’t understand why you would tell me…. does Chat Noir know?” he made himself ask.
“No!” she cried, and her eyes flooded with tears all over again. “Please don’t tell him! He can’t know! It would hurt him so badly.”
Well, she wasn’t wrong there.
“What makes me more trustworthy than him?” he asked. He was terrified of her answer, but he needed to know. What was so wrong with Chat Noir? What had he done wrong to lose her trust?
She bit her lip. “Don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re not. Not even close.”
“But you just told me…”
“I know! I know!” she shouted, tugging angrily at her pigtails. Very familiar pigtails. “He should have been the first to know! He has been there since the beginning and always followed my lead and backed me up, even when I didn’t deserve it.”
And then to his horror she was shaking, trembling like an earthquake as she rocked herself back and forth.
“Marinette?” he prompted, unsure of how to comfort her.
“I’m sorry,” she cried, frantically erasing the tear tracks across her face with the back of her hand.
“No, it’s my fault. I didn’t mean to pressure you.”
She turned to him, his blue eyes glassy and compelling. “Actually, now that you know, can I talk to you about it?”
He hesitated. She wanted to talk to him about Chat Noir.
He should say something. Tell her who he was so that she knew. But… he also just wanted to know.
What had he done wrong?
“You can talk to me about anything, Marinette,” he promised softly.
“I trust you implicitly, Adrien. And it’s because I’ve seen who you are. You are so kind. And you are so patient.”
“I trust you, too, Marinette.”
She offered him a watery smile, and then looked away, her eyes momentarily lost in the sky.
“With Chat, it’s different. It’s visceral. We didn’t choose each other. We were thrown into this together. We trusted each other because we had no other choice.”
He isn’t sure if that’s better or worse than why she trusted Adrien.
“He’s died for me. So many times. I get so angry with him because sometimes he almost seems eager to sacrifice himself. Like he has something to prove to me.”
“Is that why you never told him your identity?”
“No,” she breathed. “I haven’t told Chat who I am because when I did… the world ended.”
“What?” He wasn’t sure how many more times he could handle his world being knocked out of orbit, but she was really testing his limits today.
“I trust Chat Noir more than anyone else on this earth,” she was saying. “I can’t even put it into words. The right ones don’t exist. I just… I just know he will always be there when I need him to be. I know that he will pick me up when I’m shattered beyond repair. I literally cannot imagine my life without him. Ladybug would have failed or surrendered ages ago without him.”
He felt floored.
“It’s not fair that I can’t tell him who I am. It’s not fair that he wasn’t the first one to know. I hate that I can’t introduce him to my friends and that I don’t know where he lives! It’s not fair that I can’t tell him how much he means to me!”
And she broke off into inconsolable tears.
He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, and she leaned into his side, her hands covering her eyes and face as she cried.
“What happened?” he asked softly.
She shook her head against him. “Please don’t ask… I can’t.”
“Will you ever tell him?”
“I… think it would break his heart.”
“Maybe it would be better to know.”
“I… maybe… I’m not sure. I wish I could forget.”
“Marinette, do you love him?”
Her eyes squeezed shut, but that didn’t stop the tears from spilling over onto her cheeks.
“I can’t,” she sobbed.
“Why can’t you?” he prodded, like he was poking an old bruise just to feel the pain underneath.
“Because the world ends!” she snapped.
And he softened. She loved him. Both sides of him, apparently. “That’s not how love works,” he said softly.
She cried harder once again, and his arm tightened around her.
“Thank you,” he said once her tears had ebbed.
“For what?” she asked, her voice still thick from crying.
“For being truly honest with me. I… I don’t get a lot of that in my life.”
“I feel like all I did was put us both in danger and then ruin my chances with you.”
He frowned. “What do you mean?”
She laughed darkly. “Do you not remember? I just confessed to you! But somehow, I spent most of the time talking about Chat Noir.”
He picked at a piece of chipped paint on the bench in the tiny gap between their legs. “I don’t think you’ve ruined anything.” He didn’t look at her.
“You don’t? You still want to go out with me? After all that?”
Yeah, he might have questioned his own sanity too if he didn’t have the full context here.
He nodded. “Marinette, I’ve been saying it since the day I met you. You’re amazing. And one of the only people in my life who has really ever seen beyond the glamour of all things Adrien Agreste. And I would love to go out with you, but I can’t,” he told her, watching her carefully.
Her eyebrows furrowed in puzzlement. “I understand,” she said.
He knew that she didn’t.
Not yet.
“I imagine your father doesn’t approve and I imagine my… uh… extracurriculars complicate things.”
He shook his head. “No, it’s nothing like that,” he said gently. “You see, I have a secret and I wouldn’t want it to destroy our relationship the way it did my last one.”
Her eyes widened. “Adrien?” And he could hear the tremble in her voice, but he couldn’t stop.
“I’m Chat Noir,” he finished.
Horror bubbled up in her gut, sour like a pot of fermented greasy soup.
She had just screwed up. Colossally. She wasn’t sure how this conversation could have gone any worse. How had she messed this up so completely? She had worried before that he would hate her for breaking down and revealing her secret, for being so torn with her feelings.
But he was her partner!
And she had betrayed him in everyway to his face.
He was going to hate her forever if he somehow didn’t already.
She didn’t know if she would survive his scorn.
Chat Noir was literally the most important person in her life and she had hurt him. Over and over and far more deeply than she thought she was capable of.
Her stomach writhed like it was home to a mass of worms.
Because it was even worse than she thought, as she mentally reviewed their whole conversation with this new context.
She was his community service partner. Ha! Community service! He felt unneeded and forgotten. And then she had just told her secret - blurted it out like it was nothing to someone that she didn’t even think was on the team.
Her chest tightened and the tears sprung forth before she could get a handle on them.
She buried her face in hands.
“Oh god, you must hate me.”
And she couldn’t even blame him for it.
His arms wrapped around her gently. And she cried into his shoulder. And she didn’t understand how he could try to comfort her after she had betrayed his trust like that.
“M’lady, as I already said once today, I could never hate you. Believe me, I have tried.”
One thing was clear in her mind. She did not deserve him.
“I’m so sorry!”
“I’m sorry, too,” he whispered.
“Whatever for?”
“For taking advantage of the situation to learn what you thought of Chat Noir.”
She shook her head. She couldn’t be angry with him for that. Not after… she had so thoughtlessly broken her own rules for the second time, no less.
“You wouldn’t have had to if I had just been honest with you. You’ve tried to be there for me, and I wanted to lean on you. I did. I was just so scared of what could happen… if we got any closer. And I didn’t realize you were hurting. Didn’t realize I had hurt you.”
“It sounds like you had a reason.”
Her whole body was shaking in agitation. “That doesn’t make it right.”
“It’s okay,” he assured.
She glared at him, the righteous anger she usually reserved for Hawkmoth and school bullies, bubbling to the surface.
“It’s not!” she insisted. “How can you be so forgiving?”
He shrugged. “It’s not like I don’t get having to keep secrets that destroy relationships.”
“You and Kagami?”
He nodded. “Among others. Things are strained even between Nino and me.”
And she wanted to start crying all over again as if she hadn’t cried a lifetime’s worth already. Because he had kept his identity a secret because she had asked him to, while she had broken her own rule in order to keep Alya as her best friend.
She had the kwamis and she had Alya, and she had even had Chat Noir.
But who did Adrien have? Who could he turn to?
Ladybug chided him everytime he shared something personal, his father was cold, distant, and unfairly demanding, and Adrien couldn’t confide in his friends without breaking his promise to Ladybug.
“Apparently he finds Chat Noir annoying and threatening,” Adrien was saying.
Her indignation flared bright and hot.
“Chaton! You know that’s not true.”
“He thought Alya was cheating on him with me,” he continued. “Apparently, she keeps secrets from him, too, and that was the only explanation he could think of.”
And she squeezed her eyes shut. “This is all my fault. I’m so so sorry.”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“I mean, Alya was keeping secrets from Nino only because I asked her to! And then, he thought something was going on! And then is hurt, he damaged his relationship with you by ranting about Chat Noir without knowing who he was talking to.”
He grabbed her by both shoulders the way Chat Noir always did when Ladybug was going down a panic spiral. “M’lady, it’s okay. Breathe.”
She took in a panicked breath. “I… just… I’m sorry that all my secrets hurt you, and then they came out in the worst way to make sure I hurt you all over again.”
He pulled her into a hug. “Just the fact that you feel bad for hurting me, makes me feel better. I promise you, I’m okay.”
She peered at him, not trusting his words at all. He had already proved to her today that he was better at pretending than she had ever given him credit for in either of his personas.
“Are you really?” she asked.
He smiled, and opened his mouth to speak. “I…”
She poked him hard in the chest. “And you’d better not feed me a line! Just be honest, Chaton. How are you really?”
He sighed, and shook his head. “I mean, I don’t think I’ve been okay for a long time,” he admitted. “But I don’t know when it started. Things were so good! I was in school, I had friends, and I loved being Chat Noir, and then, it somehow all gradually changed, and it seemed like everything was broken. Honestly, Marinette, it felt like you were the only person in my life that I still had a completely solid relationship with.”
“Then I had to go and ruin that,” she threw in, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
He barked a laugh. “Marinette, you haven’t ruined anything. I feel better right now than I have in a long time.”
“I’m sorry you’ve been so alone,” she whispered. “What do you want to do?” she asked.
He considered her seriously. “That depends. You seem to know of another reality. How screwed do you think we are right now, knowing who one another is and that we love each other?”
Marinette grew somber again. “I don’t know.”
“Will you tell me what happened?”
“Are you sure you want to know?” Her words were so soft, she could barely hear them, but she knew he could hear better than most even untransformed.
“Not really, but I don’t want you to have to bear it alone.”
She nodded. And then stared at her hands for several seconds gathering up the pieces of her courage that she hadn’t already cashed in today. “All of Paris was flooded,” she told him. “Everything was destroyed. Only skeletons of buildings and dust statues that dissolved at the slightest touch, remained. The moon… it was shattered. There was no sign of life. No plant life. No animal life.
“Except for Chat Blanc.”
He already couldn’t breathe. His whole body was shaking.
Her hands were on either side of his neck, and she brought his gaze up to hers. “Kitty, listen to me,” she whispered urgently as he fought for air. “It wasn’t you.”
“But isn’t that what you’re saying?” he yelled. “That I got akumatized and destroyed the whole fucking world?”
She pressed her forehead to his. He clamped his hands around her wrists, hoping she could ground him before he completely panicked.
“You also recognized me when I arrived,” she told him, her blue eyes filling up his whole vision. She never looked away. “You didn’t kill me though you definitely could have, you helped me find your akuma, and when I cleansed it, you were the gentlest, softest version of yourself that I have ever known. And so I repeat. It wasn’t you. It was the akuma.”
He couldn’t hold the torrent of tears back, they poured down of their own accord as he trembled in his partner’s protective hold.
He understood now why she hadn’t told him. Why she had been terrified it would break him. Part of him wished that she hadn’t, but a larger part knew that it was better that he knew. Now, he could understand the weight that she had been holding on her shoulders.
He thought he had already known. He knew what it felt like to have to protect the whole city when you were just a teenager.
But the whole world? He knew the wish could bend reality, knew that the akumas left lasting psychological damage on both the akuma victims as well as those caught up in attacks. He had never realized that an akuma could lead to the end of everything.
He had never realized the stakes were so high.
He fell into Marinette’s concerned gaze, her eyes still focused solely on him. She stared at him with such faith.
She had known. That the stakes were this huge. How long? He had no idea, but it had to have been for awhile.
And she had been holding it all alone.
He cupped both sides of her face in his hands. “You are so strong,” he whispered. If there was one good thing about knowing, it was that hopefully he could hold this burden with her. That they could lean on each other in a way they had never been able to before with so many secrets between them.
“I’m sorry I was weak enough to be akumatized,” he sobbed, his voice cracking.
“Don’t even say that!” she hissed. “I’ve been akumatized, too. You’re allowed to feel things, Chaton.”
He shook his head. “Not if it leads to the end of everything.”
“You know, the worst part of that future for me wasn’t that everything was destroyed.”
“It wasn’t?”
“No, it was almost peaceful,” She smiled at him then. It felt so out of place given what they were talking about, but it gave him hope anyway. “The hard part was that you were there. You were alone. And you were hurting. And I had no idea how long you had been trapped in that hellscape. You thought I was a hallucination when I first arrived.
“I never told you any of this. But I wasn’t keeping it a secret to save the world. Not really. If I’m honest with myself, I was only trying to protect you. To save you from that future.”
Somehow, his tears came harder, but for far better reasons. How had he ever been lucky enough to meet this girl? She was his everything.
“And that’s how I felt just now, seeing you here on the bench looking so forlorn and dejected. That I had to protect you. I’m sorry that in my efforts to protect you from being completely alone, I made you feel exactly that. I didn’t realize that you were hurting so much. I’m sorry that I didn’t notice on either side of your mask.”
“Mari?”
“Yeah?”
“I really want to kiss you right now.”
Her smile was so dazzling he was blinded by its brightness. And she bridged the gap between them. He let his eyes fall closed, her lips parted just enough for their breaths to mingle.
It left him dizzy.
“I love you,” she whispered just a centimeter away from his face. “So much.”
He wanted to cry. He did cry.
“Chaton?” she asked, pulling away just enough so he could see her whole face. Their fingers interlaced so tightly it hurt, but he wasn’t letting go.
“I love you, too,” he managed. “Just feeling beyond lucky. Like impossibly so.
She squeezed his hand tighter.
“I should have told Ladybug awhile ago how I felt,” he said, and then he grinned. “Lucky me that I have this awesome and amazing friend, Marinette, who could see through me and make sure that I knew I could lean on her.”
She brought their joined hand to her mouth, and kissed his knuckles the way he had done to her when they were suited up so many times. He felt the heat rise to his cheeks at the gesture.
She smirked.
“Why didn’t you talk to Ladybug?” she asked.
He shrugged. “It’s like I told you. I don’t want to be annoying. I don’t want to be a burden.”
She considered him. “It’s your human right to be a burden Chat Noir. And I hope that you will always let me hold it with you, just as you’ve always helped me with mine.”
“As long as you remember that you can share every one of your burdens with me, too.”
“No more secrets?” she offered with a beaming smile.
He kissed her again.
“No more secrets,” he agreed.

Day 28: Shopping
"Hey, Draco?" Harry called as he came barging through the door into the flat, a bundle of energy and light that Draco orbited around.
"Kitchen," Draco called back, rolling his eyes as he watched the idiot trip over the umbrella stand for what must be the thousandth time by this point. He was so hopelessly in love with the other man that he found it endearing rather than irritating, he was clearly losing his damn mind.
"Hey," Harry said, leaning on the island across from Draco with a breathless smile that exposed his dimples, and Draco fell and fell and fell. And he let himself (as if he had a choice) even though the landing was always brutal and would probably kill him one of these days.
He smiled back because he couldn't help it, "Hi yourself."
"Could you help me with something?"
"Depends," Draco replied, even though that wasn't true, Harry could ask for his left arm and he'd just chop it off and hand it over, "What do you need help with?"
"There's this guy I really like," Harry started.
Ah. There it was, the perpetually brutal landing when Draco was reminded that this was entirely one sided.
Harry continued, oblivious as ever to Draco slowly dying inside, "And I really want to impress him."
"Well it's good job you're the savior of the world then, isn't it?"
(Read more below the cut)
Harry shrugged one shoulder, "He doesn't really care about that," he said. "It's one of the things I like about him, he treats me like I'm just another person."
I treat you like you're just another person Draco wanted to insist.
"So, could you help me plan the perfect date for him?"
Draco sighed but he nodded, he could never deny the other man anything, even if it meant denying himself.
------------
The next day, Draco helped Harry pick a perfect restaurant; pick out a small, tasteful bouquet; style his hair; and now he was taking him out shopping.
"Potter," he groaned outside of the curtain, "Hurry up. You do know how to put on trousers don't you?"
"Normal trousers, yes," the other man called back. "These trousers are just..." he trailed off and Draco couldn't help smirking. "They're so tight!"
"Your arse is arguably one of your best features," he teased but in all honesty Harry did have a fantastic arse. "Witch Weekly points it out regularly."
There was a long pause, then "Don't laugh, okay?" Harry called through the curtain and Draco realized he was actually nervous that Draco would tease him.
"Why would I laugh?" he asked. "I picked everything and I know your body better than you do. Come on," he encouraged.
A moment later Harry emerged wearing a pair of coal grey trousers and a matching waist coat over a purple button-up. His throat went dry at the back and Draco couldn't quite get his mouth working.
"What do you think?" Harry asked, scratching the back of his neck uncertainly.
"The shirt's too dark," he managed, "But the rest..." he trailed off. "The rest is very nice."
Harry looked up and smiled at him, "You think so?"
He nodded, "I do." He tore his eyes away, "I'm going to find you a different shirt, don't move." Draco left the other man standing by the dressing rooms and made his way around the store until he found a very pale pink shirt. It was perfect, a nice contrast to the dark grey and it would compliment his dark skin and bring out the warm, bronze tones.
Harry accepted it with nary a word and went in to put it on. Draco was speechless when he came out, he was a vision, the top two buttons on his shirt undone. And oh, what Draco wouldn't have given to be allowed to press Harry back against the wall, to lean in and lick at his suprasternal notch, to nibble the bit of expose collarbone.
He forced his eyes to move, to take in more of the other man's appearance. Harry had rolled up the sleeves on this shirt and left his forearms exposed, Draco's fingers itched to rub over that corded muscle. He was in so much trouble.
"Do you like it?" the other man asked uncertainly. "Do you think it's too much?"
"No," he managed, "It's perfect. You look perfect, he'll want to eat you with a spoon." Where had that come from? he shook his head, trying desperately to clear it.
Harry gave him a little smile, "Right, so that's the restaurant, the flowers, and my hair and outfit. That just leaves convincing him to give me a shot."
"Yeah," Draco said, smiling at the other man and trying to make it reach his eyes.
"So," Harry said, scratching the back of his neck, "What do you say?"
"Oh," Draco said, "Well, I'm sure that anything you have to say to him will be the right thing. Just, be sincere," he said with a shrug.
"No," Harry said, shaking his head and taking a step forward, "You're misunderstanding me. What do you say to dinner?" he asked as he reached out of take Draco's hand, "With me tonight?"
Draco stared at him, "Sorry, what?"
"Right," Harry said, dropping Draco's hand like it burned him, "Sorry, this was stupid. Forget I said anything," he added, trying to flee to the dressing room.
"Potter," he said, yanking back the curtain, "You can't just ask a person something like that and run away."
Harry was sitting on the little bench in the corner, body hunched in on itself.
"Were you serious?" Draco asked, taking a hesitant step closer.
Harry nodded without looking up.
"But why?" he asked, completely befuddled, "Why me?"
The other man looked up at him then, "Draco you are my best friend. You make me laugh all the time, you're always there to make me feel better when I'm upset, and you don't see me as 'Harry Potter'. You're smart, and handsome, and kind. And there's nothing I like better than spending time with you, even when we're doing boring housework together; time spent with you is always time well spent."
"I'm," Draco started, unsure how to finish, he'd never let himself actually imagine that Harry might feel this way.
"Just," Harry sighed and ran his fingers through his hair before standing up, "Forget it, okay?" he edged past Draco. "You don't feel the same and I-"
In a fit of bravery that was quite unbefitting of a Slytherin, Draco closed the gap between the two of them, fisting his hands in the waist coat and pressing Harry against the wall, as his lips descended.
Harry let out a surprised hum but immediately wrapped his hands around Draco's waist pulling him closer and kissing him back for a long moment.
It would never have been long enough, but when Harry pulled back from the kiss, Draco whimpered and chased his mouth with his own.
"Draco," Harry gasped, "Mmm," he melted against him for a moment and Draco's blood sang with victory. "Merlin," Harry managed, "Draco, we can't just keep making out in the store."
"I've wanted to kiss you for ages," Draco said, nipping lightly at his jaw and reveling in Harry's gasps.
"Me, too," Harry breathed, drawing back so he could look at Draco properly. "So, is that a yes to dinner?"
"That's a yes to dinner," Draco confirmed with a laugh. "And dessert, and even going back to your's for coffee after if you'd like," he added wiggling his eyebrows.
Harry laughed and cupped Draco's cheek in his palm, stroking his thumb over his cheekbone, "I really like you," he murmured, like a confession.
"I really like you, too," Draco replied, giddy with a joy that he hadn't ever expected to feel. "I can't believe that I planned my own date with you without even knowing."
Harry laughed, "I was rather hoping that I was being obvious but," he shrugged.
"I'm a little in shock," he confessed.
The other man brushed his nose against Draco's, "What do you say we go pay for these clothes and then maybe you could come back to mine for coffee before dinner?"
"That sounds like a good idea to me," he replied with a smile that mirrored Harry's.
It turned out that Harry's outfit looked just as good on the floor as it did on him and they ended up missing their dinner reservation entirely. But the Chinese take away they'd ordered and eaten together in bed was the best meal Draco had ever had.

Tonight You're Gonna Go Down In Flames, Just Like Jesse James
A Jason Todd x Reader Story
Word Count: 7.9K Warnings: Explicit Language, Angst, Mentions of Blood and Violence
Author's Note: This is the series I did a week or so ago. I figured I'd combine it into one big document so no one had to go searching for all the parts. Enjoy! -Thorne
**********************************************************************
It was a horrible idea in the first place and yet, of all the bad decisions she’d made in her entire life, this one apparently was going to take first place. Of course, part of her told her to just chuck her feelings into the back of her mind and leave them there, but the longer she spent around him, the stronger they got. And regardless of how terrible her love life was—and to be completely honest, it was horrible—she was going to admit her feelings and accept whatever outcome came. What’s the worst he could say? No? No, she didn’t think he’d say that. He flirted with her all the time, called her doll, and complimented her on her reading habits—no one had ever done that.
***
She shifted the red roses into the crook of her elbow, free hand nervously smoothing down her pink sundress, discomfort running up and down her spine as she waited on the front porch of the imposing manor. She’d gone to his apartment earlier but after he hadn’t answered, she remembered that he’d once mentioned the manor as a secondary hangout, prompting her to go there after.
Inhaling sharply, she quickly took the flowers back into her hand when the door opened, and she smiled widely at the older man who stood before her. “Hello, you must be Mister Pennyworth.” she greeted warmly. “I’m (Y/N) (L/N), a friend of Jason’s. Is he here?” she raised the flowers and the gift box in her hand. “I’ve got something for him.”
The man smiled and stepped aside, letting her in. “Of course, Miss (Y/N), please allow me to fetch Master Jason.”
“Oh, you don’t have to call me—and he’s already gone,” she whispered. “Wow, he moves fast for an old man.” Her eyes drifted to the portrait above the hall table and she smiled at the faces of him and his brothers. They looked rather regal for the humorous stories he told her all the time. Footsteps drew her attention away and she turned, smiling at Jason as he walked towards her. He wore a surprised smile, but it was a smile, nonetheless.
“(Y/N)? What are you doing here?” he asked and when she opened her mouth all she managed was a dumb, ‘uh…’ then she shoved the flowers in his face.
“These are for you.” She replied, face heating up as his fingers brushed hers when he took them.
Jason brought the bouquet of roses to his nose and inhaled. “Wow, they’re beautiful, (Y/N).” He gave her that smile that had her stomach fluttering. “Thank you.”
She nodded and held the gift box up too, no longer than about nine inches and about eight wide. “This is for you too.”
“Thank you,” he said, tucking the flowers into his elbow while he unwound the twine rope and opened the box top. He shifted away the tissue paper and pulled out a small book, about the size of his hand and his eyes went wide. “Is this—”
(Y/N) nodded. “Yeah! You mentioned that you wanted a pocket booklet of Emily Dickinson’s poems…so I went scrounging some old bookstores and found one.” She smiled bashfully. “For you.”
He huffed a laugh of disbelief and pulled her in for a quick hug. She tried not to pass out in his arms as he breathed in her ear, “Thank you, (Y/N). Really, thank you, so much.”
“It was no big deal,” she brushed off, pulling away from him and he shook his head.
“Well, it is to me,” he retorted with a grin, then gestured to her. “But I don’t understand, what brought this on?” he nudged her in the side humorously quipping, “I didn’t forget a gift exchange, did I?”
(Y/N) laughed. “No, no you didn’t, it’s just…” she trailed off, falling quiet.
“It’s just…” he repeated, tone and eyes ever curious, and she swallowed thickly.
It’s now or never, (Y/N). Just tell him how you feel.
She motioned to the book. “Well…they say it’s easier to relay feelings when you give gifts.” Smiling, she confessed, “Jason, I…have feelings for you. Really, really strong feelings.” He went slack jawed, and though she felt a pang of embarrassment, she kept speaking. “And I was wondering if maybe you’d like to go out on a date with me tonight? There’s this really nice café uptown that has good soups…or maybe we could go to a bar and get a beer together?”
Clearing her throat, she added, with a flustered smile, “Whatever you wanna do of course. I’d be happy as long as you’re with me.”
He was silent. Jason was completely silent, and she wasn’t sure what was worse, his silence or the shock etched across his face, but she kept hoping for the best. That was until he said her name. And the tone he used…she knew instantly what was coming and all she wanted to do was shove her hand against his mouth and tell him to forget she ever said anything.
“(Y/N)…” he started sympathetically, recovering rather slowly. “I’m flattered,” he admitted, raising the flowers and book in his hands. “For the gifts, really I am…but…” Jason shook his head and gave her a pitied smile. “But I don’t feel the same way that you do…and I am sorry.”
For a moment she couldn’t remember how to breathe, simply gazing at the man she’d been friends with for the past seven months and trying to figure out how she interpreted every moment so horribly wrong. All the kind words and hugs. All the smiles and laughter. All of it.
“(Y/N)?” Jason worried. “Are you alright?”
She blinked, suddenly feeling a flush of coldness ebbing out through her stomach and down her limbs; she nodded, pursing her lips. “Yeah—I’m okay.” (Y/N) cleared her throat and pointed back towards the door. “I’m…I’m gonna go…”
She hadn’t even gotten a foot away when he caught the sleeve of her pink sweater and stopped her. “(Y/N), I’m really sorry. I don’t mean to hurt you like this.”
Sucking up all the embarrassment and heartbreak back in, she turned and let out a ‘pfft’, waving her hand as she lied, “What? No! I totally get it, Jason. Absolutely.”
He seemed unconvinced and she hated how he always knew something was off about her at every moment. “Are you sure?”
(Y/N) couldn’t fight the wobble in her lip as she nodded. “Mhm. Completely.” She tugged out of his grasp. “But I totally remembered that I have a thing to do. A very important thing not here.” She gestured to the door. “So I should go. Like now.”
This time, she didn’t wait when he called out to her and she yanked open the door and closed it behind her as fast as she could, hurrying down the steps to her car.
She climbed in, immediately gripped the steering wheel and pressed her forehead to the top of it, eyes starting to water as she tried to get her breathing under control. Her fingers fumbled with the keys and after the fourth missing of the ignition, she burst into tears and dropped her keys. Her lips wobbled and her sight was blinded as she reached for her keys in the floorboard and when she got them, she shoved them into the slot and twisted, barely hearing the engine roaring to life.
Wiping a hand across her face, she could’ve cared less about the makeup smearing across her skin and she put the car into drive, hoping that with every foot of distance she put between her car and the manor, she could leave a broken heart behind.
Because what was the worst thing he could’ve said?
No?
That was exactly it.
***Part Two***
Of all the bad decisions she’d ever made, this was probably the worst, and all she wanted to do was crawl into a hole and ride out every emotion that was coming onto her like a maelstrom. Every bad date, every failed notion of love just kept washing over her, but this one seemed like the nail in the coffin. She drove aimlessly for hours before she realized it was seven o’clock; a quick stop at her apartment and she fed her cat, also wiping the makeup and tear tracks off her skin before she wandered on foot with the direction of anywhere and nowhere.
***
Collapsing onto one of the benches that sat at the pier of Gotham Bay, she sighed heavily and gazed out at the water. It was calm compared to the storm inside and she propped her elbow on the railing, fist against her cheek, sighing again.
There was no way she could go to work and act like everything was okay. Kelly-Anne was going to drill her all about her “date” and she didn’t even go on one. She groaned. I never should’ve told her that I was going to ask Jason out. That’s going to be more embarrassing than being rejected by him. Another groan escaped her and she bent forward, burying her face in the floral dress pattern. I even wore a stupid dress and heels. Going slack, she let her feelings wash over her.
Something grabbed her shoulder. “Hey.”
“AHHHHH!” She yanked away, shooting up to see one of the masked vigilantes of Gotham city before her.
“Woah, woah!” they calmed, hands outstretched non-threateningly. “I’m not gonna hurt you!”
She pressed a hand to her chest and let out a sigh of relief, reclining on the bench as she heaved, “Oh my God, I thought—I don’t know what I thought you were.” A flighty laugh passed her lips. “You scared the hell out of me, Nightwing.”
He smiled and laughed. “Sorry. I saw you over here and thought I was going to find a new reason to call GCPD.”
“No, no,” she affirmed. “Just…dealing with things.”
Taking a seat beside her, he crossed his ankles and leaned back on the bench. “By groaning beside Gotham Bay at nine o’clock?”
She shot him a heat-less glare. “It was that or drown myself in cheap wine and Lewis Capaldi.”
He seemed to know what she was talking about, surmising, “Heartache?”
“Like you wouldn’t believe,” she muttered, lolling her head back on the bench, trying to ignore his steady gaze.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“(Y/N). (Y/N) (L/N).” She grinned. “What’s yours?”
Nightwing chuckled. “Afraid I can’t give that out or I’ll be in with the Big-Bat.” She giggled and he followed with, “Do you wanna talk about it?”
(Y/N) pursed her lips and shook her head. “Nah…you’ve got better things to do than help a girl nurse a broken heart.”
“Sometimes the better thing to do is talk with someone.” When she met his eyes, he smiled wholeheartedly. “Try me. I’m a good listener.”
Something ached in her chest and after a moment of staring at him, she swallowed thickly and sighed. “There’s this guy I’ve been friends with for a few months now. And he’s really kind and intelligent and super good looking and I—” she shrugged. “I fell in love with him. I mean, it was hard not too with how amazing of a man he is.”
Nightwing nodded. “What’s his name?”
“Jason Todd,” she said, and she couldn’t help the smile that came across her lips. “One of the first times we were hanging out, I told him that his first name meant healer in Greek…but he didn’t seem too keen on that definition.”
“How come?” he inquired, and she shrugged again.
“I don’t really know…Jason’s never been all that open about his past.” (Y/N) looked at him. “I think some bad things happened to him when he was younger and he just…doesn’t let people in easily.” She managed a smile. “I feel like all the times he did tell me about his life, it made me feel special, you know? Knowing he trusted me enough to tell me.”
“You really seem to love him,” Nightwing noted and she couldn’t help the tears that gathered in her eyes.
“I do…Jason’s the first guy that’s ever seen me for me.” (Y/N) pursed her lips. “I’m weird. I work in a library and books are my life and I can talk your ear off about how Raymond Carver single-handedly saved the short story genre.” she sighed. “And I’ve always been the nerdy girl in the friend groups who watched everyone else fall in love while she pined from a distance.” She huffed a pitiful laugh that made even his heart tighten. “I mean, I even went to prom alone.”
Her eyes found his. “But Jason made me feel special. He listened and didn’t get upset when I apologized for talking so much. He just smiled and asked me to keep going.” (Y/N) wiped at her eyes. “I thought that we were getting closer, but God I saw all the signs of him being a good friend as romantic.” She groaned and buried her face in her hands. “And it’s so embarrassing to admit that I’m so starved of love that I saw them as loving gestures.” Another groan escaped her. “And then I asked him out today and got rejected.”
He blinked in shock, wondering why his brother would let this girl go. Obviously, they were perfect for each other. He didn’t tell her that though, instead asking, “What happened?”
(Y/N) moaned. “I showed up at his house with flowers and a book he’d been talking about.” She smushed her cheeks and glared out at the water. “And he was really nice about letting me down easy and I wish I could be upset about that, but I can’t because he was respectful.”
She sat back up on the bench and they both gazed at the stars. “Please tell me that even cute superheroes like you have romantic problems.”
Nightwing chuckled and nodded. “Oh, you’d be totally surprised.”
“Yeah?” (Y/N) giggled and he hummed.
“Two of my exes are super-heroines and they’re really good friends.”
She blinked at him. “Okay, yeah, you win, Nightwing.”
He chuckled and turned his neck, falling silent a moment to gaze at her. “…It does get better, (Y/N).”
Her lips pursed. “I know…I just have to wait it out.” She stared into his eyes. “But I don’t think anyone will ever be as great as Jason is.” Her eyes fell to the water and she sighed, “Is it too much to ask though…that I find someone to hold my hand and love me?”
Nightwing took her hand and laced their fingers. “I can’t do the second thing, but I can do the first for a while…if you want?”
(Y/N)’s eyes watered, and she squeezed his hand. “Yeah…I’d like that.” She propped her head on his shoulder, feeling his cheek press against the top of her head.
“Tell me what your favorite poem is, (Y/N).”
“I’ll bore you to death, Nightwing. And I apologize…a lot.”
“Someone tell you that no one cares when you were younger?”
“More than I’m comfortable admitting,” she sniffed. “From a lot of people I respected too.”
Nightwing hummed. “Well…I’m not them. And I care about what your favorite poem is.” He thumbed the back of her hand. “Please tell me.”
She sighed heavily and murmured, “I will hold you with harbor arms. The lighthouse finding a ship against the lonely sea. A shelter as your legs give out under torrential rain. What I’m trying to tell you is, you are safe here.”
He was silent for a minute, then he whispered, “That’s beautiful, (Y/N).”
“I think about it a lot…about it and Jason,” she replied quietly. “I think he’s afraid of love—of loving someone. I’d give anything to let him know that I’m not afraid of whatever skeletons he’s got in his closet…that…that I’m not afraid of him or what he’s afraid he is.”
Tears gathered in her eyes and she turned her head, quietly sobbing into his shoulder. “I’m sorry,” she cried. “I shouldn’t be—I shouldn’t—”
“Shhh,” he whispered, pulling his hand away from hers to curl around her shoulders, giving her a hug. “Let it out. I’m not here to judge you.” He wrapped his other arm around her, resting his chin on her head. “Let it all go, (Y/N).”
And she did. Every rejection throughout her life, from elementary school to high school to every college bar, she let out. Every “You’re not my type” and “I don’t date X girls” she let go of with every heart wrenching sob that tore her throat.
***
She didn’t know how long she cried, but when she was gone, Nightwing’s shoulder was completely soaked and (Y/N) had a raging headache to go with her heartache.
“Feel better?” he questioned when her sobs had subsided into sniffles every minute or two.
“Yeah,” she whispered. “A lot.”
Nightwing smiled. “Sometimes a good cry is all we need.”
“Mhm,” she agreed. “It’s cathartic.”
“Alright, Aristotle,” he chuckled and to her surprise, she found herself laughing. “And there’s the smile!” he cheered, letting her pull away to wipe her face.
“Sorry for boohooing on your shoulder,” (Y/N) apologized and he merely shook his head.
“Nah, don’t mention it.” He brushed off. “I hope someone like you would do the same for me if I needed it.”
She giggled. “Then we’ll meet here when we need good cries, huh, Nightwing?”
He held out his hand, watching her shake it. “Sounds like a good plan, (Y/N).” A siren went off in the distance and his face shifted instantaneously as he rose to his feet. “Rain check on the cry days.”
(Y/N) waved him off. “Don’t worry about it, go save the city.” As he started off, she called out, “Nightwing!”
He spun just for a moment. “Yeah?”
“Thank you,” she smiled.
“Anytime, (Y/N),” he winked and turned, sprinting off.
“Be careful!” she yelled and laughed when he waved a hand in the distance.
***Part Three***
She balanced the tin of cupcakes in one hand and opened the door with the other, already more than nervous as she stepped into GCPD. Some of the officers smiled and nodded at her while others merely watched as she walked up to the desk and cleared her throat.
“Excuse me,” she interrupted. “Is Commissioner Gordon here? I’d like to speak with him.”
The man’s eyes went from the cupcake tin to her face and he asked. “Can I ask what for?”
“Oh, yes, I just need to speak with him about something…involving Batman’s, uh…helpers?” she winced. “It’ll be quick, I promise.”
He cocked a brow, but shrugged and grabbed the phone, pushing a button. “Sir, you’ve got someone here to see you…no sir, she just said it dealt with Batman and the others…understood sir.” He hung the phone up. “He’ll over soon.”
“Thank you,” she smiled, and waited for the detective to arrive. When he did, she held her hand out, “Commissioner Gordon?”
He shook her hand. “Good evening, young lady. What can I do for you?”
“Well, I’m (Y/N) and um…it’s a bit complicated actually.”
“We live in a city with men and women who dress up in costumes and fight insane clowns.” He snorted. “We do complicated around here.”
(Y/N) huffed a laugh and nodded. “That’s fair, Commissioner Gordon.” She raised the tray of cupcakes in her hand. “This is going to be really weird, but I was wondering if I could use the spotlight to…call one of them.”
Gordon’s eyes drifted from the cupcakes to her, then back to the desserts. “You wanna use the Bat-Signal to get one of them…so you can give them cupcakes?”
Her mouth opened and closed, then she admitted, “Okay, that sounded a lot better in my head.” She sighed. “It’s not crazy, I swear but—”
“Why don’t you follow me to my office, and we can talk about this, hmm?” he asked, and she nodded.
“That sounds great, sir.” She followed close behind him to a closed-off room and took a seat in one of the chairs in front of his desk, waiting for him to sit in his chair.
“So,” he started when he sat down. “Start from the beginning of why you wanna give Batman cupcakes.”
(Y/N)’s cheeks warmed, and she murmured, “Nightwing. I want to give them to Nightwing, actually.” He cocked a brow but said nothing and she cleared her throat. “So, the other week, Nightwing helped me out with something and to repay the debt, I made these.”
“What’d he help you with?” Gordon questioned and she played with the hem of her sweater.
“Uh, he…he, um, helped me with a um…a really embarrassing rejection.” She waved her hand. “And I sobbed like a baby on his shoulder and I just wanna give him these in return and tell him sorry for taking up his valuable time.” (Y/N)’s cheeks felt like they were on fire and she begged, “Please let me use the signal to call and I’ll leave. Promise, sir.”
Gordon watched her for a moment then he chuckled and rose from his desk. “I’ve been doing this for about forty years, and nothing has ever been this funny in my entire life.” She sighed, thinking a ‘no’ was coming and he stood beside her. “Come with me to the elevator and we’ll go up.”
(Y/N) blinked in disbelief. “Wait, what? You’re going to let me?”
“Of all the things I’ve ever had someone come in and ask for? Delivering cupcakes is a new one. And I pride myself on getting the new ones.” He smiled. “Come on.”
Not wanting to blow her chance, she hurried after him with a big smile on her face and soon she was standing next to the giant spotlight, watching it silhouette against the night sky. She waited for a moment, then asked, “So how long does this usually take?”
He grunted. “Takes longer when you ask how long it takes.”
“That makes sense,” she laughed, and someone cleared their throat behind them. Both her and Gordon startled, though his reaction was less noticeable than hers, whereas she jumped a foot in the air.
“Red Hood,” Gordon greeted, holding out a hand to shake. “Good to see you, son.”
“Good to see you as well, Commissioner Gordon.” Red Hood replied. “Big-Bat in charge sent me here to see what was going on. Is everything alright?”
“Yeah,” Gordon said, motioning to (Y/N). “You’ve got a visitor.”
The vigilante turned to her as if finally noticing her presence and he asked, “What’s wrong?”
(Y/N) held out the cupcake tin to him. “I was wondering if you could give these to Nightwing.”
Red Hood glanced down at the cupcakes. “Why’d you make cupcakes for that jerk-off?”
She was shocked to hear such an insult and she bit out, “Well maybe because I wanted to, jerk-off.” He was probably scowling at her from behind that mask, but she wasn’t going to back down. “Nightwing did me a favor last week and I always repay my debts.” (Y/N) held out the tin again. “Will you please give these to him and tell him thank you for his pep-talk?”
Red Hood took the tin from her, asking quietly, “What’d he help you with?”
“Oh my God, why does everyone wanna know?” she griped, then exhaled through her nose. “Fine, I got rejected by a guy I’m in love with, and I boohooed like a baby on a park bench with Nightwing holding my hand like a parent to a child and being super sympathetic.” (Y/N) glared, though she appeared flustered. “Are you happy now, Red Hood?”
“Be a lot happier if you weren’t giving my brother cupcakes,” he muttered under his breath and looked at her. “Do you want the Tupperware back?”
She nodded. “Just tell him that I’ll be back at the bench on Friday this week to pick it up. Same time as the other week.”
“I’ll tell him,” Red Hood said with a rather annoyed tone and started back towards the other side of the building.
“Red Hood!” she called out and he paused, glancing back at her. “Look…I know you’re busy with other things. So…thank you for doing this. Really, I appreciate it.”
He shook his head, murmuring softly, “Don’t worry about it, (Y/N).” And he was gone.
Gordon walked over to her and rested a hand on her shoulder. “Miss (Y/N)? Are you alright?”
She blinked and nodded, though she felt a great deal of confusion as she said, “He knew my name?”
***
Jason watched his brothers dig into the cupcakes, groaning about how good they were. He didn’t even need to eat the one he had in his hand because he knew. He knew she made the best baked goods he’d ever had, especially these ones which were her specialty. Double Dutch Chocolate Cupcakes with little pink, shimmering pearls. She put them on because she thought they were cute.
He glanced down at the cupcake in his hands, asking, “How do you know, (Y/N), Dick?”
The eldest brother paused mid-chew and stared at him with a dumbfounded expression. “Huh?”
“Cupcakes,” Jason said, gesturing to them. “She made them as a thanks to you. For last week.” He looked at his brother. “What for?”
Dick swallowed the bite he’d been chewing and nonchalantly replied, “Oh, nothing big. Just being friendly.” He shrugged. “How do you know her?”
Jason scowled. “Don’t do that shit. We both know how I know her.”
“Oh, right! The rejection after the flowers and book!” Dick exclaimed, taking another bite. “So, why’d you say no anyway? She seems like great girl.”
“She is,” he agreed. “The greatest.”
Tim elbowed Dick in the ribs, murmuring, “Is this Jason admitting he’s in love?”
“I don’t know,” Dick replied. “Jaybird, if you’re this pissed at me—”
“I’m not pissed,” he retorted, very much so pissed. “I just don’t want her getting involved with this.”
Dick’s mouth formed an ‘o’. “So that’s why you rejected her. You’re afraid of letting her know about everything.” He hummed knowingly. “See, she said that was probably it. That you’re scared.”
“What?” Jason’s eyes widened. “What’d she say to you?” He handed his younger brother a thumb drive. “What’s this?”
“Recording of the conversation I had with her last Friday,” he replied. “I was planning on giving it to you later tonight.” Dick laid a hand on Jason’s shoulder and murmured, “She’s not going to run away if you’re vulnerable with her Jason.” He nodded to the flash drive. “She’s stronger than you’re giving her credit for.” Dick patted his shoulder and took the cupcake from Jason’s other hand, biting into it. “Oh my God,” he groaned, walking off. “What does she put in these things? They’re addicting.”
***
I’m not afraid of him or what he’s afraid he is.
Jason put his forehead on the desk and stared at the floor, not really sure what was tightening worse, his chest or his throat, but something in the mix started hurting and he let out a shaky breath, vision blurring and he squeezed his eyes shut to keep the tears at bay. Rejecting her affections meant she forgot about him. She forgot that he existed, and she stayed safe. She stayed alive. Jason wanted that. He wanted (Y/N) to grow old with someone and have a family, not die an early death at the hands of some crazed villain or worse, a failure of his saving.
He let out a low groan and rubbed his forehead against the desk, wishing that it would solve all his problems. Mostly the ones in his broken heart. They had texted each other and video called constantly. Usually meeting up once a week to hang out somewhere or go get dinner. His entire life had changed in one conversation, and the only thing he regretted more than telling her he didn’t feel the same way and making her cry was watching her lie that she hadn’t been bothered when he knew deep down that her heart was shattered. He knew it because he watched her breakdown in her car through the manor window before she pulled out of the driveway.
Maybe Dick was right though…and that thought made him wanna vomit because younger-brother syndrome was a real thing and listening to your older brother wasn’t fun. But if she were that honest with Nightwing, that real with him, then maybe he could tell her the truth. All of it. About everything he was hiding from her. His past and most importantly his feelings for her. Maybe he could really keep her safe if he did.
Maybe Jason could be the one she grew old with. The one who held her hand and loved her.
***Part Four***
“I don’t wanna die,” she whimpered, grasping at his wrists that were digging into her side. “Please, I don’t wanna die now.” Tears slipped down her cheeks and she let out a sob. “I don’t wanna die.”
He cupped her cheek, brushing his thumb across her skin. “You’re not going to die.” He promised. “I’m not going to let you die here.”
Her eyes found his behind the domino mask and she whimpered again. “I’m scared, Red Hood.”
“I’m going to save you. I swear I will.” He ignored the blood that had smeared across her cheek and pressed his hand back to her bleeding abdomen, tears of his own gathering in his vision as he whispered, “I won’t lose you too.”
***
She couldn’t help but look to her wristwatch again, just to make sure she hadn’t been late. Of course, she’d gotten there fifteen minutes early, but still—time was a funny thing and sometimes she found herself late to things even if she’d arrived early. She should’ve just told Red Hood to let Nightwing keep the Tupperware, but that thing was like forty dollars and it was her favorite cupcake tin—she wasn’t letting that go.
Footsteps sounded through the traffic from her right and she looked up, smile faltering just slightly when she saw Red Hood coming her way instead of Nightwing. “Hey Red Hood!” she greeted with a tad of confusion and he waved.
“Hey (Y/N).” he raised the tin. “Sorry for being the one to drop this off but Nightwing was…busy.”
She snorted. “Don’t worry about it. Did he like—”
Red Hood dropped the tin, breaking into a sprint towards her. “(Y/N)! BEHIND YOU!”
“What?” (Y/N) spun and gasped when she came face to face with two masked men. “Oh fu—UHN!” one of them sunk their fist into her stomach and she bent over with a gag, knees going out below her as they grabbed her by her arms and yanked her forward.
She heard him screaming for her as they dragged her to the side of the road and shoved her into the back of a van. (Y/N) tried kicking at them but one of them picked something up and hit her across the head and the last thing she saw before everything went dark was Red Hood fading from view as the doors shut.
***
The tires screeched on the van as it hauled off and Jason had barely managed to grab the back handle as it did. He gripped the sides of his hood and cursed sharply, heart already beating wildly as he panted. “Fuck!” he screamed. “Motherfucker!”
He spun around, mind hopping from place to place as if he couldn’t figure out what to do first, and he punched a button on the side of his hood. “Nightwing, do you read me?” The line crackled a moment. “Nightwing! Come in!”
Jesus, I heard you the first time, Hood. What’s wrong? Break a nail?
“Dick,” he whispered. “It’s—it’s (Y/N).”
Something in Jason’s voice told him all he needed to know. What do you need me to do?
He turned in the direction that the van sped off in. “Two masked thugs grabbed her and took off with her in a van.”
License plate and van description?
“I31-FL4. White Chevy van, tinted windows.”
Alright, I’m away from a computer right now, but let me get Tim on the line. Another crackle. Hey Red, you busy?
At the moment. Why?
I need you to run a license plate for me on a white Chevy van.
Mmm, can it wait? I’m in the—oh shit—middle of something right now.
Tim, it’s urgent. (Y/N)’s been grabbed.
Number?
I31-FL4.
Your van just clocked four traffic cameras heading over the bridge past Chinatown into Founders and off to north of Port Adams. Scans are telling me that Cobblepot’s manor is that way.
“Cobblepot?” Jason repeated. “What the hell is he—” his sighed. “Shit, Dick, one of Penguin’s thugs probably saw you and (Y/N) the other night.”
And Penguin’s assumed that she knows who I am. Ugh, times like these I wish I hadn’t busted his gun running from Blüdhaven. Jason, I’m on my way.
Do you need backup, Hood? I’m about twenty out from your position.
“Don’t worry about it, Red.” He assured. “Nightwing and I got this.” Jason started towards the other side of the street, already pulling out his grapple. “You stay on whatever it is you’re doing.”
Aw man. But rescue missions are so fun.
“Tim. Fuck over the line and get off.”
***
Cold water splashed across her skin and she gasped, startling awake with violent shivers. Immediately she tried to get away but found herself bound to a chair; eyes searching wildly until they came to rest on the short and fat man walking towards her, wearing an eyeglass and smoking a cigar.
“Good morning, sleeping beauty.” He greeted. “Sleep well?”
Swallowing thickly, her eyes darted to the various armed thugs around her and she murmured, “What do you want with me, Mister Cobblepot?”
“Mister Cobblepot?” he cackled. “So polite.” He got in her face. “I want something you have.”
Her eyes found his. “I’m willing to part with whatever you need in return for my life.”
“I want Nightwing’s name,” Penguin said, and she blinked at him.
“Come again?”
His hand split across her face and she cried out in pain. “I don’t want to be drug around. His name. Now.”
She shook her head. “I don’t know Nightwing’s name.”
“Really?” he asked, then held out a hand and she watched someone put a phone in it and he shoved it in her face. “So that ain’t you sobbing on his shoulder like a whore with a heartache?”
Her eyes followed the picture and even from a distance, her and Nightwing’s faces could be seen, as well as their conjoined hands. “Okay,” she started. “I see what that looks like, but it’s not what it is. I swear.” Laughter echoed through the warehouse and she squirmed in her binds.
Penguin gazed at her for a moment, then he cracked his hand back across her face once more, and this time, he busted her lip. “I want his name.”
“I don’t know his name!” she spat the blood out of her mouth. “I was having a moment of weakness and he comforted me like a good person does. That’s it. He didn’t tell me his name.”
“I don’t believe you.” He hissed and she rolled her eyes.
“Look, it’s not my prerogative what you believe but that’s the truth. I don’t know who Nightwing is. Believe me, I asked, and he said he couldn’t tell me.” She leaned forward. “Hit me all you want but I can’t tell you what I don’t know.”
He shrugged. “Works for me.” And he punched her in the jaw, grinning proudly when her head lolled forward and she let out a low groan. “Who is he?”
“I. Don’t. Know.” She hissed through clenched teeth and he waved a hand.
“Someone bring me a knife. Maybe she’ll think better if she’s flowing.”
Her eyes widened and she started thrashing. “Okay! Wait! Let’s not be hasty!”
Penguin flicked open the knife and pointed it at her. “Name. Or I’m gonna slash you.”
“Mine? Mister Cobblepot, I’m disappointed that you don’t know the names of the women you kidnap.” She griped, voice turning into a shout of pain when he swiped the knife against her cheek. Blood flowed from the cut down her face, dripping onto her sweatshirt and she teared up, cheek stinging harshly.
“Want me to do the other side and make it match?” he asked, and she glared at him through her teary eyes.
“Go fuck yourself, oompa-loompa.” Glowering at the knife coming back down at her and she watched as something collided with it, causing sparks to jump as the knife practically jumped out of his hand.
Penguin cried out and spun in the direction of whatever had knocked the knife from him. “Red Hood!”
Someone dropped beside him and propped an elbow on the vigilante’s shoulder. “And Nightwing!” he glanced at her. “Sorry for getting you involved in this.”
She tried for a smile but still grimaced. “Say that after you get me out of this.”
He grinned and pulled out his escrima sticks, clicking the buttons. “That’s fair.”
“Well don’t just stand there!” Penguin yelled at the thugs. “Get them!”
It was a free for all. And even she was wincing with pity when a thug landed in front of her feet, blood streaming out of his nose as his eyes rolled back in his head. She figured since they were busy with fighting one another, she could use the time to get out of her binds—if at all possible.
She wriggled vigorously until there was slack in the ropes around her wrist and she started yanking her arms back, ignoring the way it broke her skin and rubbed it raw. Eventually she got one hand out and she let out a cheer, eyes scanning the ground for the knife.
It lay a few feet away and she grunted as she slouched in the chair, kicking her leg out as far as she could to toe it closer. Almost there! She strained against the bind and slammed her foot on the knife, dragging it to her. With a winning smile she picked it up and slashed the rest of the ropes on her wrist and stood up, immediately ducking as another thug flew over her head and she glared at Red Hood.
“Hey! Watch it!”
He stopped fighting, a gang-banger in a headlock. “How’d you get out of that?”
She put her hands on her hips. “I’m not some helpless damsel in distress, Hood.”
Chuckling, he slung the guy into the wall and pointed to the exit. “Get out and run as far as you can.”
“Right.” She spun and started towards the double doors when two thugs got in her way and she sighed. “Oh, fuck off.” Taking a step back, she turned on her heel when one grabbed her around the waist, and she yelped as he lifted her in the air. “Lemme go you big bastard!”
“(Y/N)!”
Someone shouted her name and she did the only thing she could do—she swung knife downwards, narrowly missing her own side as she stabbed the thug in the hip. He screamed, dropping her and she grunted when she hit the concrete. (Y/N) crawled along the ground when the same guy she stabbed, hauled her up by her belt.
“Oh, come on!” she yelled, and he threw her into the corner of the warehouse into some plywood boxes. They shattered under the force of the throw and her weight and she collapsed in a pile of hardboard, something in her side aching much more than anything else, like she’d been stabbed.
After a moment, the fighting seemed to die down and she managed to crawl to her knees, glancing down to find whatever kept poking her in skin and her eyes widened when she saw the jagged end of a piece of plywood sticking out of her stomach. And the second she saw it, the pain came, and she gasped sharply, holding it as she looked up them.
They were dealing with Penguin and she watched as Nightwing shoved the escrima stick to his neck and sent fifty-thousand volts into his body, watching as he jerked and passed out.
(Y/N) fell back on her knees and weakly called, “Guys?” they turned and gaped at her. “Help me.”
Red Hood was the first one to her and he dropped to his knees, pulling her against him. “(Y/N),” he breathed, one hand skimming over her face, the other pressing against the wound. She cried out and he said, “You’re going to be okay.” He looked at Nightwing. “Call a bus. Now.”
Nightwing knelt beside her and rested a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry, (Y/N). We’re going to take care of you.”
She nodded, though she wasn’t too sure of her belief in them. “It hurts,” she whimpered and Red Hood looked down at her side, raising his gauntlet to it.
“The wood punctured your liver.” He said and she sighed in shock.
“Am…am I gonna die?” she asked quietly, and Red Hood yanked off his hood, pressing down tightly onto her side.
“No. You’re not going to die, (Y/N).”
Suddenly, tears were gathering in her eyes and she whimpered, “I don’t wanna die.” (Y/N) grasped at the wrist that was digging into her abdomen. “Please, I don’t wanna die now.” Tears slipped down her cheeks and she let out a sob. “I don’t wanna die here.”
(Y/N) pressed her head to his shoulder. “I have a cat at my home. If I don’t make it will you get him for me? Find him a good home?”
“Don’t talk like this. You’re going to make it, (Y/N).” He looked at Nightwing. “Where’s the bus?”
“Ten out,” he replied. “I’ll go open the doors.” He hurried off and left the two.
“Red Hood, my cat—”
“You’re going to see Matlock again, I promise,” he interrupted sternly, and she gaped at him.
“How do you know my cat’s name? How do you even know my name?” He met her eyes and slowly reached up, peeling the mask from his face and her jaw went slack. “J—Jason?”
He gave her a weak smile. “Surprised?”
(Y/N) could barely find the words and she huffed, “I called you a jerk-off last weekend.”
“Yeah, I kinda deserved that.” Jason laughed, putting the mask back into place. “Couldn’t help it though. You made cupcakes for my brother.”
“Jealous?” she teased, voice dropping into a groan when she shifted.
Jason cupped her cheek. “Like you wouldn’t believe.” He thumbed her skin as the paramedics entered the warehouse and he smiled. “You’re going to be okay, (Y/N).”
She gripped his hand. “Don’t leave me. Please, Jason, don’t leave me.”
“I’ll come to see you after they get you into the hospital. Okay?”
“Promise?” (Y/N) whispered and he nodded.
“I promise, doll.” He nodded his head and stepped back, letting the medics do their job. And when they had her in the back of the ambulance, he sighed heavily and watched the siren wail as the red lights disappeared down the boulevard.
Dick rested a hand on his shoulder. “Go. I’ll call GCPD.”
Jason turned and pulled his brother into a strong hug, squeezing him tightly. “Thank you, Dick. God, thank you so much.”
“Oh my God, are you willingly hugging me!” Dick screeched, and when Jason tried to pull away, he held on and buried his face in Jason’s shoulder. “My Little-wing!”
“Okay, get the fuck off me. This is embarrassing.” He scowled.
***
Her head felt heavy and she barely had the strength to open her eyes. Brightness flooded her vision and she shut them again, waiting a moment before trying to open them once more. This time, it wasn’t as bright, and she blearily glanced around the room before catching sight of Jason curled up uncomfortably in the hospital chair beside her bed.
She didn’t wake him at first, simply gazing at him. He looked tired. Tired and worn out, like he hadn’t slept in years. Which might’ve been the case if the rumors of Red Hood being the second Robin were true—murdered then revived later. She doubt he slept much at all.
As if he knew she was watching him, his eyes opened and he met hers, blinking the sleep away and then he was leaning forward, gently murmuring, “Hey, (Y/N). How do you feel?”
She sighed, resting on the pillow, the thumb brushing her forehead almost lulling her back into sleep. “…Tired,” she mumbled. “And sore.”
Jason huffed a laugh. “Yeah, getting stabbed will do that to you.” He glanced towards the door. “Let me go get the doctor real—”
“Stay,” she said, grabbing his arm and he stilled. “Please stay. Just for a moment.”
“Alright,” he agreed, sitting back in the chair. “I’ll stay,” he said, but his eyes became firm. “but in five minutes, I’m going to get Doctor Brown.”
(Y/N) stuck her tongue out at him, and they collapsed into laughter, though at one point she groaned, “Oh God, don’t make me laugh.” She rested her hand on her abdomen. “Everything in this general area hurts.”
Jason took her hand. “It will—quit prodding it,” he griped. “You don’t wanna open up your stitches.” He ran his calloused thumb over the back of her hand and met her eyes. “I was so scared when I saw you get taken.”
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, and he shook his head.
“It’s my fault. I should’ve seen it coming earlier. I should’ve told you earlier, but I was so scared of letting you know everything.” Tears gathered in his eyes. “But I almost wasn’t fast enough tonight, and you got hurt and—”
(Y/N) brushed her fingers over his lips, shushing him. “Jason, it wasn’t your fault.”
He frowned behind her fingers. “But you—”
“I’m here.” She affirmed. “And I’m okay.” (Y/N) grabbed his chin. “You saved me.”
“What happens if I’m too late next time?” he asked, eyes searching hers and she smiled.
“We’re not going to let that happen.”
“But it—”
“It’s not going to happen again.” She brushed her thumb over his lip and smiled at him.
He cupped her hand to his face and bent over, pressing his lips to hers; Jason stayed there for a moment, merely resting his forehead to hers and he lamented, “I’m sorry I turned you down. I never meant to hurt you…I was just—”
“Keeping me safe,” she surmised. “I know, baby.” Jason froze, eyes wide. “Too early?”
He chuckled and kissed her again. “Say it again.”
“Mmm, say please, and I’ll throw in a ‘I love you’.” (Y/N) countered.
“Pretty please?”
She grinned. “I love you, babe.”
“I love you, doll.”

Part Eight: Hope
Atsumu x fem reader , Suna x fem Reader, Hinata x Fem reader
A/N: I’m so sorry it took so long to put out this chapter I’m gunna try to do better on posting faster. I’ve had a lot of stuff happening irl. I love see so many of your write in for the poll 😂 I did not expect Sakusa to pop off! I hope y’all like this chapter. Again it’s still kind of short but I wanted to get it posted. Also you can’t convince me Hinata doesn’t use an all in one cleanser!
Warning: crude language, not much angst, some fluff.
Part Seven: Regrets
Tumblr media
Hinata stared at his phone questioning whether he should message you again. It had been four days since you ran out of his apartment. You had yet to respond to any of his texts. As concerned as he is he knows no good will come from spamming you. Although he wants nothing more than for you too talk to him. He was so confused where you both stood. But he was sure of one thing, and that was that things couldn’t go back to the way they were before. He can’t go back to pushing down his feelings and pretending he doesn’t want to be more. That he didn’t want to call you his and show you off to the world. To take you out on dates try new experiences and make memories with you. He can’t keep acting like he doesn’t dream of waking up to you in his arms every morning. He wants to be there with you every step in life and support you no matter what. He wants to show you that you are the most amazing woman he’s ever known. As much as the sex is amazing it’s not worth holding back anymore. He knows you may still not be ready for a relationship and he wouldn’t think about pressuring you into one after how horribly your last ended, he’d gladly wait for you to be ready but he has to be honest with his feelings instead of torturing himself.
The sound of his alarm snapped him out of his daze. Time to get ready for practice, he groaned pulling himself from the comfort of his bed before heading to the shower to start his day. He shuffled in the bathroom hooking up his phone to his Bluetooth speaker starting up with morning playlist beginning his morning routine. He loved jamming in the shower. He turned the water on letting the heat build as he brushed his teeth before climbing into the steaming shower bopping his head to the beat of silhouette by Kana-boon having to refrain himself from attempting to naruto running in the slippery bath. He stood there for a moment enjoying the heat hitting his back and loosening his muscles. Losing himself in the music as he grabbed his three in one, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. He scrubbed his hair and body screaming the lyrics to the next song. “Sawaras nai kimi wa shojo wa na no Boku wa yarichinbitchi no osu da yo !!,” he was jamming out when the song was interrupted by the sound of a notification. He thought nothing of it figuring it was just Bokuto-San. When the chimes continue his curiosity won out as he peeked out passed the curtain still covered in bubbles to see who was spamming his phone. His eyes grew wide as he saw your name lighting up his notifications. He rushed for his phone loosing his balance and slamming the shower wall to keep himself from falling on his ass as he scrambled out still dripping and soapy as he stood in bathroom unlocking his phone.
YN-Chan 🧡: Hey Shoyo
YN-Chan🧡: you’re usually up by now so I thought I’d message you to say I’m soo soo sorry for how I ran out the other day.
YN-Chan🧡: honestly I should have messaged you days ago but I’ve just been dealing with a lot . It’s no excuse but still I’m sorry.
YN-Chan 🧡: look I totally understand if you don’t want talk to me after how I acted but if you do I was hoping we could get together and talk?
Hinata could see the text bubble at the bottom showing she was typing but he wasted no time pulling up the call button needing to here your voice. It rang two times before connecting. His heart clinched hearing your soft hello.
“Hey Sho,” you answered.
“Hey there YN-Chan,” he greeted back.
He could here a sense of nervousness in your tone. “Hey sorry if interrupted anything.” He realized how hard he was breathing from excitement and from nearly dying trying to escape his shower.
“Oh no no, its fine I wasn’t busy,” he feigned nonchalance. There was a beat of silence as you both searched for words.
“Umm you had said you wanted to talk?” He questioned. He was really concerned for why you ran off that day.
“Oh yeah but I’d much rather talk in person, is there anyway we could get together soon I understand if you’re busy,”
“I’m free tonight,” he cursed himself for how desperate he sounded, “uhh do you want to come over tonight?”
You chuckled at his eagerness. “If it’s okay with you maybe we could go out... to like dinner maybe,” his heart froze his mind reeling with excitement you had never gone out before. Always just opting to have food delivered and eating in. He couldn’t help but let his hopes rise.
“I know it’s not what we usually do so I get if you’re uncomfor-”
“I’d love to!” He cuts you off. Not wanting to miss this chance.
“A-awesome um is 7:30 good for you?” You questioned.
“Yep!” He could feeling his heart soaring as the plans started to solidify.
“Great well I’ll message you all of the details later, bye Sho umm I’ll see you tonight.”
“Goodbye YN-Chan, can’t wait!” He heard a small laugh leave your lips before the line disconnected. There is a wide smile spread across his face as leaning against the wall next to him not even upset that his shower water was now starting to run cold.
Tumblr media
Hinata’s day was instantly better with thought of seeing you tonight the Idea of having a date with you filled him with joy. Everyone could see the difference in the outside hitter today compared to the last few practices. It’s was like he was in the zone. He was all over the court making the cleanest receives and his spikes were just so on point. It was time for there first water break and stretch. He sat on the bench taking a gulp of water a big smile present on his face when he checks his phone to see a message with a restaurant address. His teammates shared a look at the way the ginger stared at his phone.
“What’s got you so happy Hinata?” Sakusa questioned.
“Yeah Sho you’ve been on fire today plus you won’t stop smiling at your phone!” Bokuto boasted wrapping an arm around his newest teammate.
“That obvious huh?” Hinata grinned. “Well uhh the girl I’ve been talking to wants to go on a date tonight!”
“Oh yeah?” Atsumu smirked “the same girl that’s been marking up yer back recently?” Bokuto and the Setter busted into laughter when Hinata’s faced turned red. Sakusa rolled his eye at the childish behavior.
“Uh haha yeah that’s the one,” he chuckled rubbing the back of his head.
“Well if you’re already fuckin her why are you getting all giddy over a date?” The setter asked
“We’ve actually never been on date before,” Hinata admitted.
“Damn Sho, first date! Why’d you wait so long dude?” Bo wondered.
“Really Hinata-Kun I didn’t take you for the casual sex type,” Sakusa stated
“She’s a friend but I’ve like her pretty much since we met but she’s just not ready for a relationship,” he explains “ she has some bad history but we kept fooling around as friends. I’m so excited cause she asked if I wanted to get dinner so I’m hoping maybe she’s starting to open up to the idea.”
“Ha well good luck then bro,” Bokuto smacked him on the back laughing. The rest of them agreed in the well wishes before the whistle blew signaling the end of their break.
Tumblr media
They resumed their intense training. Right now focusing on their serves and some indurance training. The coaches were wearing them out today going over and over drills. Soon enough they were in the locker room showering up a bit and changing as they got ready for their lunch break before they’d have to return to practice. The locker room filled with chatter as they discussed different plays they wanted to work on or where they wanted to grab lunch. There conversation was interrupted when one of the coaching assistants poked their head in.
“Miya-San your fiancé is here to see you, she waiting by the gym entrance.” He stated before turning to leave. All eyes were on the setter when he dropped his phone a look of shock present on his face. His mind was going a mile a minute he was so sure he miss heard the man . There was no way you were here. He stood up rushing to finish getting dressed. There was a pressure in the room he was ignoring some of his teammates sharing a confused look.
“I didn’t know you had a Fiancé Tsumu?” Hinata asked excitedly as the team started following behind the setter.
“That’s because he doesn’t,” Sakusa stated bitterly. Atsumu shot a dirty look back at the wing spiker.
“She left him months ago before you joined the team Shoyo-Kun, she’s are really nice girl though always brought us the best snacks when she’d visit,” Bokuto explained his hungry mind straying as he thought back to her delicious cooking.
“Oh I’m sorry Atsumu,” Hinata apologized.
“Don’t he deserved it,” Sakusa scoffed.
The setter paid no mind to comment there was no point in getting angry with the neat freak he was completely right. It didn’t matter at the moment what mattered was seeing you. He stopped in his tracks when he saw you standing there. You were even more beautiful than he remembered. You were looking at your hands picking at your nails. He could see you were nervous. So was he. What was he supposed to say he knew he owed you an apology and much more but it felt like he couldn’t breath looking at you. You looked up at him your eyes locking. There was a look he couldn’t quite pin point. It wasn’t exactly a look of hated which it was what he expected but it also nothing like the looks of love he used to receive. He didn’t even realize the boys had stopped behind him watching the scene. His eyes only focused on you and nothing else.
That is until he hears a sharp breath from behind him as Hinata called out your name. Bokuto and Sakusa’s eyes snapped to the ginger some confusion present. Atsumu however didn’t look away from you not even when you gaze shifted from the setter to his teammate. This look in your eyes he could distinguish. It was one you used to look at him with. It shattered Atsumu as he realized right then you were the woman Hinata had been talking about. It obvious when he saw a similar look of happiness on Shoyo’s face. It felt like a kick to the gut. An array of emotions swirling through his mind. He was hurt to think you moved on. Disgusted as he thought back to his earlier convo with the man and how they had discussed the scratches on his friends back and now realizing how they were from you. He felt like he was going to puke thinking of his teammate with you in that intimate way. But he knew he had no right to feel this way not after all he put you through so he pushed those emotions deep inside. Returning to the moment.
“Hi Sho,” you gave a small smile as you shuffled nervously in your spot.
“I thought we were getting dinner? We can switched to lunch if you need to tho.” He stated.
Sakusa and Bokutos eyes grew wide finally coming to the same conclusion the setter previously had. Sakusa had to stifle a laugh as Bo muttered “oh shit” under his breath at the awkward situation.
“Um actually Shoyo, I’d still like to get dinner with you. I know this must seem really confusing, and I promise to explain everything tonight, but uhh.. I actually here to see Miya-San.” You explain sheepishly.
Atsumu tried not to flinch at the use of his last name.
You turned to the blonde with a stoic face. “Can we get lunch, we really need to talk.” He nodded not knowing how to use his voice.
You turned back to Hinata with a pleasing look. “I’ll call you later before our date, Sho.” Before turning to leave with Tsumu.
Hinata may be beyond confused right now not yet connecting the dots. But that didn’t matter he couldn’t stop his heart from skipping. Date. It’s a date. He wasn’t overthinking or wishing hopefully. It was an actual date with you! The woman he can’t get out of his mind. And that one little comfort was enough for him to trust the situation as he watched you walk away.

“did you see the captains for nekoma’s team yesterday?”
“oh their tall middle blocker with the bed hair? he was something else!”
“i just know he’s got girls crawling all over him back at nekoma. i think i’m gonna transfer schools!”
your eyebrow raised in amusement towards the girls nearby who were mindlessly babbling on about a particular rooster headed captain you were familiar with.
the high praise he was recovering in your classroom would certainly give him an ego boost, realistically though, these girls couldn’t have been further from the truth; you were partially thankful for that.
akaashi took notice of your entertained expression as he took his seat beside you in the unsupervised classroom.
“ah,” he clicked his tongue gesturing towards the squealing girls. “they’re talking about kuroo-san when they had the practice match here yesterday.”
you nodded towards your own school teams setter and smiled. “listen to them.” you hummed as akaashi leaned a little further on his desk facing towards the small group of girls nearby.
“what was his name again?”
“i’m not sure, i never got the chance to go down and talk to him!”
“whatever his name is i know it’s one i want to scream”
“you’re so bad!”
akaashi cringed at the rawness of these girls vocabulary. so they thought kuroo was hot? why they couldn’t just word it like that and leave it at that, akaashi would never know. he turned to face you as you pulled your phone out to discreetly record the girls fussing over your boyfriend.
“y/n, isn’t that a little... intrusive?” akaashi quirked an eyebrow towards your smug expression.
“this isn’t an act of jealousy but rather amusement. besides, aren’t they being a little intrusive speaking about my boyfriend like this? tetsu’s gonna shit himself when he hears this, they’ve mischaracterised him completely.”
akaashi nodded before casting his gaze back over to the girls before looking back towards you while you were texting the very boy the girls in your classroom were raving about.
“aren’t you bothered by it?”
you laughed and shook your head firmly.
“no no! not at all, i can’t blame them for being head over heels for him i mean, i fell for him too didn’t i?”
“by some miracle.” akaashi shot back to which you scoffed before turning your attention back down to the device in your hands.
you made quick work of sending the video to your boyfriend and captioning ‘can i tell the girls your name? they want to know for when you have them scream it’ before shutting your phone off and going back to casual conversation with akaashi before the teacher entered and the class simmered down for work.

back at nekoma, kuroo was currently scrolling through the multiple automated notifications piling up on his phone until your name caught his eye. quickly tapping the screen to open snapchat, kuroo smiled softly at the sight of the little purple square under ‘pretty one <3’.
he wasted no time in pressing down on the video to watch whatever it was you had sent him. turning up the volume, kuroo’s eyes widened a little at the caption you had typed out to go along with the video.
“scream it?” he muttered quietly to himself but not quietly enough to miss kenma’s ears.
“what are you watching?” the bleached haired setter asked bordly.
“y/n’s sent me a video but i don’t really understand.” he mumbled pressing down on the outlines square to get the video to replay once more for kenma to see what he was talking about.
kenma’s face twisted into one of disgust as he feigned a gag to kuroo’s offence.
“is it that unbelievable others find me attractive?”
“it’s not even believable y/n finds you attractive yet alone other girls.”
“you wound me.”
“not physically so you can’t complain.”
kuroo snickered before sending back a picture of himself with a puzzled expression and a grossed out looking kenma with the caption ‘kenma didn’t appreciate the honest content, glad to know the girls at your school have working eyes though?’.
he frowned after shutting his phone off as kenma took a seat besides him on the bench besides the court.
“that was weird, i don’t come across as that type of boy do i?”
kenma shrugged and pulled his own phone out, his attention now divided between his bestfriend and his devices.
“not here you don’t. the girls at fukurōdani just sound annoying and superficial minus y/n obviously.”
kenma muttered, his fingers tapping across his own screen.
“well then, i don’t suppose it’s matters too much then. i hope y/n isn’t too bothered by it though, as much as i love the praise, i don’t want it from anyone but her in that sense.”
“whipped.” kenma tutted quietly as kuroo smiled.
“that, i am.”

a week had passed and the two of you had forgotton about the fuss that the girls in your class had made over kuroo. there was no practice match to attend, but bokuto had insisted yourself, kuroo, kenma and akaashi all come over for dinner by the request of his mother and sisters who had complained how they hadn’t seen the four of you for a while together.
kuroo and kenma (kenma begrudgingly however), agreed to meet the three of you outside the entrance of fukurōdani to join you on your journey back to the bokuto residence.
kenma was reluctant to stand out in what obviously wasn’t a fukurōdani school uniform, but kuroo didn’t mind. it wasn’t rare for students from neighbouring schools to wait for other students after school hours as friendship groups outside of schools obviously existed.
kenma was leaning against the wall of the school gates and kuroo was stood beside him texting the group chat that the two of them had arrived and were waiting for them outside. his attention on his phone and not to those around him, kuroo failed to noticed the high pitched shrills of excitement ringing through the air at the sight of him.
“it’s him! the nekoma captain!”
“i’m gonna talk to him this time, do i look okay?”
“you look fine but i’m the one who’s gonna get his number so don’t get in my way.”
“you can’t say that! it’s whoever he picks!”
by now, kenma had picked up on the bickering of the girls which he considered impressive because usually he’d be able to block out anything outside of his psp.
“annoying.” he muttered coldly before doing his best to turn his attention back to his game.
“hi!”
kuroos head snapped up and he was met with a small group of girls that seemed to be growing with each student that left the gates of the school.
“um... hi?”
his face twisted in confusion as he silently begged yourself, bokuto or even akaashi to come out the gates and rescue him.
“so, you played here the other day didn’t you? you were really good.” one girl praised, her index finger twirling around the front strands of her hair.
“obviously he is. we go to a powerhouse school.” kenma muttered sharply more to himself than anything but it didn’t fail to garner a few dirty looks from the girls. not that kenma could’ve cared less anyway.
“uh thanks. you guys are kinda blocking up the path, you might wanna uh, go home?” kuroo suggested his concern growing at the same rate the group of girls were.
other students were beginning to take notice and while some girls added themselves to the group, other student shot kuroo an apologetic glance to which he half smiled back to.
“this is our territory, we’ll go home when we get your number.” one girl boldly stated to which other girls agreed.
“my girlfriend wouldn’t appreciate it.” he stated matter-o-factly.
the girls faces pulled in disgust and others humour while the ‘leader’ of the group scoffed.
“you don’t have a girlfriend. boys like you don’t settle so just give a few of us your number and eventually you’ll fall for one of us, although it’s more than likely going to be me.”
“actually, i’ve fallen for a girl already and i’ve fallen in deep. there’s no pulling me out so you might aswell run along no? are your parents not worried as to why you’re coming home so late?”
kuroo was growing more irritated than amused by now and he wanted nothing more than your hand in his at that very moment.
“stop lying and just give it to us. why do you treat the nekoma girls differently from us?”
“kuroo-san treats all girls other than y/n, his girlfriend of over a year differently. you’re not deprived so i suggest taking your leave before you cause any more disruption to anyone else.”
“akaashi!” kuroo smiled thankfully to which akaashi only nodded curtly before allowing you to walk by him wide smile drawn across your face.
“tetsu! kenma! i’m so glad to see you both!” you shoved past the shocked girls as you pulled yourself into kuroo’s arms as he happily accepted the gesture.
“i’m relieved to see you kitten.” he replied, the nickname stirring loss over the rest of the girls.
“whatever, you weren’t that hot anyway.” the main girl huffed purely out of embarrassment because not only had she been outdone by yourself, been rejected in public, but she’d also been told off by akaashi and his cold and flat tone did nothing to sugar coat the scolding.
“lying is a bad habit you know!” bokuto added earning a soft laugh from you.
if the girls weren’t embarrassed before, they certainly were now seeing as their own schools captain was now joining in.
“let’s just go.”
the girls filed down the street, embarrassment and regret written across their faces.
“why did you take so long?” kuroo whined as he pulled away to look at you.
“well, if there wasn’t a group of girls rushing through the halls to go see the ‘hot captain from before’ blocking the hallways, i would’ve been faster coming out.”
“i’m just glad you’re here now.” he smiled as the four of you began to walk down the street towards bokuto’s house.
“we’ve never had another captain stir so much commotion before, you must’ve really caught their short minded attention.” akaashi commented as kuroo told you all about the comments about him not having a girlfriend were made.
“yeah tetsuhoe.”
“what did you just call me?”
you snickered as you squeezed his hand.
“you heard me womaniser.”
kuroo groaned as kenma smirked at your teasing.
“you’re the only woman i want.” he sighed as bokuto awed at the two of you.
“yeah? good to know, glad i’m special enough for your attention.” you teased further as the others slowly began to join in much to kuroo’s dismay.
feigning annoyance was hard to do around you, but kuroo was just glad you weren’t bitter over the whole situation. he knew you knew you were the one for him.
playboy reputation or not, kuroo was happy just knowing you were confident in your postion in his heart.
and he’d be sure to remind you the next time he got you alone.
