In Honor of Bob Marley's Birthday

Gia Leve aims to write songs that soothe troubled hearts. Focusing on self-empowerment and love, her lyrics are meant to be like mantras, healing and positive.

She just released her very first cover song, “Waiting in Vain,” in honor of Bob Marley’s birthday on February 6th.

Reggae is not Gia’s typical sound, but for Bob Marley, she was willing to take her sound to the 70′s and 80′s. 

“When I first discussed a cover song with Bruce Lowe, my producer, I knew the potential for discoverability as a new artist was greater by doing a cover of a popular song. But, I felt that it had to be in my general genre, have consistency to my feel-good vibe, not have been covered to death and sit well for my voice (well, where it was at the time),” Gia shares. “It was an overwhelming task to decide which song. It’s like asking yourself, ‘What’s my favorite tune’? So, I refined my selection of 50-odd possibilities to a spreadsheet with ten variables that I assigned a value of 1-10. The short, short list then presented me with more consternation. I turned to meditation. I asked myself in silent thought what would be the song to cover. ‘Waiting in Vain’ rose up. That’s how I made that decision.”
