Haven’t seen you do any fic recs recently, since we’re on the topic of AUs, what are your favs that you’ve read or any you still plan to read?
I’ve been very vocal about my caution with AUs over time simply because if you change enough about it, how am I not just reading tomdaya rpf and considering I’ve seen people actually say that they love reading “spideychelle fic that’s only barely spideychelle” I feel justified in my wariness.
That being said, here’s some recs for fics that are AUs (defined as fics that feel Really Different from their canon) that still feel Like Them:
this is a gift (it comes with a price) and adagio in double time by @promiseofthepremise
phantom by @watsonmj
written in the margins by @forensicleaf
catch a tiger by the tail by @nightspoidah
Mr congeniality by @blondsak
As always if you read and enjoy, don’t forget to kudos and comment!

6. Favourite one of Matt's dances?
Right now it's probably a toss-up between Wiggle Of The People (new all-time GOAT dance) and Drunk Dad Crashing A Greek Wedding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, while I don't have a GIF of it atm I also like that swinging guitar motion Matt does whenever he starts the Hysteria solo.
14. Favourite live riff/jam/intro/outro
Oh god. Ohgodohgodohgod. Oh. God.
I'd probably be here all day if I had to list them all individually. I've already professed my love for Adagio in G Minor before. We Are The Universe is up there too. Also whenever Muse does shows in Chicago they always do the Cherub Rock riff, which makes me jealous every time.
As far as the drum/bass jams go, the Helsinki and Munich jams are all-timers. But my personal favorite might be the Monty Jam. (Look me in the eye and tell me this doesn't squeeze an ounce of emotion out of you.)
26. Favourite Muse pop song
27. Favourite Muse heavy song
(Answering these both just because 😁)
I generally enjoy a lot of their pop songs, though Supermassive Black Hole will always be my first love. Depending on my mood I might also be into Undisclosed Desires, Time Is Running Out or Dead Inside (yeah, it's dark by their usual standards for pop). Right now though I'm weirdly feeling the urge to listen to You Make Me Feel Like It's Halloween.
As for heavy songs, it's pretty hard to beat Stockholm Syndrome. I also have a complicated relationship with Assassin - I want a version that keeps the barbershop vocals from the album but also has the Grand Omega Bosses bridge.
36. Favourite song to sing along to
I can't narrow it down between Hysteria, Muscle Museum (yes, "guitar solo that's actually just Matt's voice" outtro and all), Host or Recess 😭
52. Matt offered £50,000 to whichever member of Muse is the first to go shirtless in the 2015 Nick Grimshaw Radio 1 interview. Who's getting paid?
Dom, obviously. Unfortunately my only photographic proof comes courtesy of one of the funniest birthday gifts I've ever gotten (long story):

58. Does the singer from Muse have only one tooth

Just thought of Adagio, Komasan and Jibanyan singing Good Little Girl (or i guess Good Little Boy in this context) from Adventure Time with probably some hints of KomAdagio. Komasan replacing Fionna’s parts, Adagio replacing Marshall Lee’s parts and Jibanyan (who has a human form now made by me) replacing Cake’s parts. Maybe cause I’m listening to Adventure Time’s vocal tracks rn idk.

p.s. hi :3 this is a note added by myself. reminder to drink lotsa water <33 i like hearing new music so, what do u listen to when writing?
p.p.s. i am a rulebreaker. i modify the chains. i leave gifts. yay :3
p.s.p.s.p.s. i saw a cat the other day- it was majestic. he was like 'me shalt not look at u' but then i pspspsps and he turned around :D
OH OK
i'm hypmic trash so songs i listen to on a daily basis + unasked for comments:
akuma no hana (argokushi gakudan) - just a slay + i love the singer
stella (fling posse) - THIS SO MUCH like the story?? the relevance to canon??? the LYRICS???? "bearing its cargo of scraps and stories, and weaving its course through the crevices of twinkling lights, the ship set sail" HDISFOPD
utena (gentaro yumeno) - ok fine it's kinda mid but the song picks up at this specific part and i die every time (in a good way)
ruler of my heart (BL8M & RUBYEYE) - i don't know if you're familiar with the alien stage franchise but it's on youtube and i 10/10 recommend it
blue lips (regina spektor) - this is literally such a pretty song everything about it is so gentle and sad
and thank you so much for the note, you too! it is very important to consume dihydrogen monoxide daily
for the writing music part, even though i adore hypmic music i intrinsically associate every single song with a pre established character, meaning i can't really listen to it while writing.
so when i write i listen to 1) instrumentals/off vocals 2) character playlists
for instrumentals i just pull up piano covers but recently i've been listening to otto a totland's music? i like julie a lot ehe (not otto a totland but adagio for strings is literal ascension)
also thank you for the gifts yay :D
also cats are very majestic you have been blessed

The 10 best classical music tear-jerkers
Looking for sad instrumental and vocal music? Here are some of the most beautiful and heart-breaking pieces ever written.
1. Puccini: ‘Sono andati?’ from La Boheme
Because this is an opera, someone has to die. Unfortunately for poor Mimi in Puccini's La Boheme, it's her. Not only is she separated from her true love, riven with consumption and hacking into her hanky like an audience member in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, she's also decided that Rodolfo is her one true love - here, the two of them reminisce as Mimi meets her tragic end…
2. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: ‘Requiem’
It'd be nice to think that the rather more dramatic scene depicted in Amadeus, where Mozart on his death bed blurts out his last ever composition to an eagerly transcribing Salieri, was exactly how it happened. However, it's widely accepted now that it was a rather more sedate affair - Mozart slipped away in the night, and a fellow composer, Franz Sussmayr, assembled the broken fragments and finished it off. Still, it's a deep and devastating listen as one of the greatest geniuses the world has ever known is committed to eternity.
5. Tomaso Albinoni: Adagio in G minor
It's a staple here at Classic FM, but to do justice to Albinoni's Adagio you really do have to put your headphones in, imagine life in sepia and feel a full Baroque embrace. Gets us every time.

the first project put out by insoo’s band (name tbd 🧐) got relatively popular in the mainstream for reinventing how to do covers of songs (v v similar to a lot of bastille’s take on covers such as: “requiem for blue jeans” & “adagio for strings” from other people’s heartache i, “of the night”, “the draw” & “what would you do” from all this bad blood, and “wild world”, “would i lie to you”, & “don’t let go (love)” from other people’s heartache pt. 4). they were heavily praised for putting modern spins on songs, while also remaining close to the subject and soul of them, too.
however, despite large commercial success (you’d more than likely hear a few of the above mentioned songs in a target or smth), they only used their newfound popularity as a means to an end. they purposefully strayed towards the music they really wanted to make (and had been making before they sought some sort of vitality): alternative.
i’d picture their sound as something similar to citizen (particularly “big mouth” and “blue sunday”) and pretty sick (“dumb” and “allen street”). and where insoo found himself in a hole of only vocals and minimal production during their first project (cant decide if it’s an album or ep </3), the growth of the band has allowed him to step into and embody his role as a frontman. he’s also growing a little fond of putting a guitar back in his hands during their shows.
insoo’s inspo: x.

Blog Timeline:
Pre-X1: Axiom is ‘adopted’. Issimo’s plans are submitted for creation. Lester passes away while Issimo is still in factory settings. Axiom leaves the police force and becomes a Maverick Hunter. With Octavia’s guidance, Issimo launches his first alias as the performer “Acoustikat”. Plans are drafted for new Reploid sibling “Remedy”. Axiom disappears on a mission, and is presumed dead or Maverick. “Acoustikat” takes an unexplained, indefinite hiatus.
X1: Issimo and Octavia are separated in the chaos of Sigma’s Rebellion. Octavia is assumed dead. Remedy’s blueprints are assumed lost. Viking is commissioned using Issimo’s original blueprints.
Post-X1: Issimo is unable to bear the apparent loss of his mother, and goes to live with Axiom’s best friend/former partner, Bearcat. The day-to-day operations of Resonant Records falls to Alan Adagio.
X2: Issimo builds up a small criminal record for graffiti and public intoxication. Fed up with this destructive behavior, Bearcat drags Issimo to Tiger Iron to ‘knock some sense into him’. Acoustikat is commissioned using Issimo’s original blueprints.
X2/Xtreme: Issimo survives Tiger Iron’s “Hell Week” training.
X3/Xtreme 2: Gospel’s frame is discovered by Black Lake mechanic “Tank” in a ruined factory. He is rebuilt and revived by group medic “Stitches”, and becomes a favored mascot. Gospel takes a liking to Issimo and is adopted. After a heart-to-heart with Tiger Iron, Issimo decides to follow in his brother’s footsteps and become a Maverick Hunter.
X4: Issimo is snatched out of training by unit leader Shade Fox, and begins to weaponize his vocal adaptation abilities. While trying to cope with the long hours, Issimo develops an addiction to energy boosts/drinks. Alia intervenes for his own safety, and they strike up a friendship. Acoustikat is pulled from observation early to return to the stage. Viking is pulled from observation early due to an accelerated timeline.
X5: Viking abandons his task force, refusing to be a weapon in others’ control.
X6: The IC chip of the Maverick Dark is installed in Issimo on Shade Fox’s orders for use by the 9th unit’s operations. Viking finds his way to Black Lake.
X7: Issimo quietly obtains S Class status. Acoustikat begins reaching out to Issimo. Viking wins leadership of Black Lake from Tiger Iron. Axl leaves Red Alert for the Maverick Hunters. Octavia Xu has a health scare, and Remedy leaves her mother’s side to try and find closure on her brothers before their mother’s passing.
X8: Issimo begins to have strange black outs and memory gaps. Shade Fox’s plans for Dark’s return have accelerated. Viking opens up Black Lake as a community center for the rebuilding Abel City. Black Lake gains new Reploid and human members (some of them Maverick Hunters). Axl is taken in for repair, and placed on observational leave. Octavia, Remedy, and Issimo have reunited.
Post X8: Axiom and the remains of the 47th unit are rediscovered. Axiom is repaired and placed on observational leave within the Hunters. Axl is moved from observational leave to light duty.

The Dandy Warhols Return to Webster Hall Ahead of New Album’s Release
Tumblr media
The Dandy Warhols – Webster Hall – March 9, 2024
The Dandy Warhols are one of those bands that inspires all manner of wordsmithery in attempted service of what best captures their rather hard-to-describe-but-unmistakable swagger. (I like appealingly louche.) These songs, especially the ones that made them famous as alt-rock scene-stealers starting in the mid ’90s, balance affected distance (you’re convinced you’re just not going to feel as cool as they are) and unspecific but embraceable aggression (this is often so groovy, head-nod-able, danceable, even). Their psychedelic pop and woozy rock leanings set a vibe, and it carries for as long as they choose to keep it coursing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Set up at Webster Hall on Saturday evening, the Dandy Warhols delivered a 75-minute panorama, mixing tunes from throughout their thirtyish years as a going concern, including a few new cuts from their upcoming album, Rockmaker, out on Friday. Some tunes announced themselves with sardonic insistence: “We Used to Be Friends,” “Crack Cocaine Rager” and “Summer of Hate” all pulled you along with various flavors of midtempo chug, pogo or hammering psych. Others took a more subtle approach, such as the bouncy, seductive “Styggo,” the ethereal “I Love You” and “Arpeggio Adagio,” folkie, druggy and trudging. Many of their classics from the late ’90s and early aughts (“Bohemian Like You,” “Godless,” “Boys Better”) turned up as a run of punches and sugar rushes toward the end of the set.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor, drummer Brent DeBoer and guitarist Peter Holmström climb on top of this music and its gauzy sounds and deliver it nonchalantly, as if they don’t have to produce its cool, just direct it. And the ace in the hole, as ever — with the most entrancing vibe onstage — is Zia McCabe, all over her island of keyboards but never without something extra, whether a piece of percussion shaking from an unoccupied hand, a lead vocal here and there or dancing from her perch — yep, all swagger. —Chad Berndtson | @Cberndtson

Another review of five albums! Under the cut like last time!
Stephen Cornford - Empty Reels
Tumblr media
When I was a kid I was obsessed with the heater on the second floor of the house. There was only one vent to heat all of upstairs so I spent a long time on it and around it, I would dry off after walking home in the rain with it, I would put a blanket over it and sit under it when it inflated with hot air, and I loved to put my ear up to the vent and listen. You could hear a lot, and the tubing made things sound a bit alien, sometimes I would try and listen in to what my parents were talking about but the fact they were talking about adult stuff like finances and the vent filtering made it mean nothing to me. Unfortunately the vent doesn't quite sound the same anymore, maybe things sound different when your smaller. The close recordings of these reels are so relaxing, I can really get lost in them.

Very very nice album, the vocals on this are superb and the instrumentation is really great, I don't have a whole lot to say about it honestly other than I love Ethiopian music and hope to listen to more. Amharic is such a beautiful language, I wish I knew what was being sung.
七尾旅人 - ヘヴンリィ・パンク :アダージョ (Heavenly Punk Adagio)

You know when your a kid and an hour car ride or a movie feels like it takes days to finish, and you have no way of telling how much time has passed or how much longer it will be. I put this on in the background while doing some boring tasks, and completely lost track of time, the album is about 2 hours long, and has a decent amount of filler. I don't think I would listen to it as one whole unit again but there are some very high highs on here.

Another find just looking at the tag "snare drum" on Bandcamp. Look I have nothing insightful to say this shit just makes my autism go crazy, I love these minimal free improv pretentious ass albums.
V/A - Goodbye Wi-Fi DIY

A cute little album made to say good bye to the ds wifi service, the Bandcamp includes the ds friend codes of the artists involved, and was originally going to be distributed solely through friend codes. My only complaint is I wish the songs were longer, but i wouldn't be surprised if that was a limitation inherent to making music on wario ware diy
