very random question and don’t feel obligated to reply but your style reminds me of dark souls/pathologic/those types of games in general. that might just be due to the historical context but i’m curious, are you a fan of games like that?

If I had to guess it could be just the vaguely historical setting, religious overtones and occasional darker themes? My knowledge on Dark Souls et al. is sparse at best, people have been telling me to give them a try but I haven't gotten around to it.

I mentioned this on Twitter already, but I love how no one makes fun of Donnie for freaking out and using his algorithm in this scene.

A lesser film would have someone make a joke at Donnie's expense, but that doesn't happen. Instead, they let him have his moment and, even though Splinter does end up interrupting him (they do have to get a move on and save Raph, after all), no one is frustrated or exasperated with him.

They all have fond looks on their faces - like they're saying, "Yep, that's our Donnie." They never bully Donnie for his idiosyncrasies in Rise and I love the show all the more for it.

#doctor sleep #doctor sleep (2019) #2023filmgifs #my gifs #that was wonderful #such an excellent clever and sensitive adaptation #of such an important healing and deeply personal novel #i knew Flanagan would get it right #and even with the changes he made to the ending #i understood and accepted why he did #this ending is frankly what i expected from the book #but King was much kinder and much more focused on the healing #Flanagan chose to focus on justice for Wendy #because god knows Kubrick fucked her over completely #and i will never forgive him for that #so my fave line from the book had no purpose in the film and i got that #such fantastic well considered visuals #it was long and i loved every bit of it #it felt so well paced and true and faithful #and if Katie Siegel wasn't pregnant #she would have totally played Rose The Hat #i just know it #Rebecca Ferguson was amazing #everyone gave such good performances #and i loved the use of the score #i've been too afraid to watch this ever since i read the book #cos i was terrified of seeing Mrs Massey #but Flanagan got me through that with a sort of immersion therapy and i love him for it #this is why i watch horror #to look steadily upon the bad thing and survive

Hopefully this isn't too weird but I love the way you draw hands, it's like the way you draw them seem just as expressive as the faces on the characters, I just love how they look and I hope I get there someday (if you have any tips please share but if not that's okay!)

Not weird at all, I'm very flattered! Hands have become extremely important to me, I tend to put a lot of effort in trying to get them look just right. I'm still not where I want to be with them but improving nonetheless. If you ask me, a thoughtfully and intently drawn hand can be almost as expressive as a character's face, just like you said. They're such complex and intricate structures with massive emotive and aesthetic potential, it'd be waste to not make use of them in art.

#as for the tips I guess I like to reference my own hands a lot #take photos and use mirrors if you can't get the angles right otherwise #look at your hands like you've never seen them before basically #I also love to watch animated films and really focus on the hands because due to the nature of the medium a lot of animators have really #perfected simplifying hand shapes and gestures in a way that is easy to read visually and communicates feelings extremely effectively #it's funny many artists develope a signature way of handling hands and I often look at their art and wonder if their own set of hands looks #similar to their style #I try to give my ocs a bit of variation but my default hands (and Machete's hands) seem to be just my own little gremlin mitts #at least more often than not #answered #anonymous

Do me a favor, okay? Next time you have a chance, close your eyes for a minute and take a deep breath and imagine someone loving you.

Imagine someone who gets excited just thinking about you. Imagine someone who loves the things you say and do and who genuinely enjoys spending time with you. Imagine someone who feels lucky every moment they get to be around you.

It can be a real person or someone you just made up. You can imagine them praising you or laughing with you or touching you or whatever love means to you. It can be romantic or otherwise. Take your pick.

And if you had a hard time doing it?

Do it again. And again. And again.

I read once that it’s important for us to visualize being loved. That your brain needs to be trained like a muscle, and like a muscle, it can become weak from disuse. Your brain can only do the things that you practice doing, and if you never, ever visualize someone loving you, it becomes difficult to even imagine someone loving you. You get stuck in a rut. And once it’s impossible to imagine someone loving you, it becomes impossible to believe you will ever be loved.

I think… sometimes it can become easy to stop believing that we’re worthy of love. And I think sometimes we have this fantasy of someone making us believe that we’re worthy of it again. Or that somehow we’ll just — earn it, one day. Being worthy of love and desire, respect and affection.

But I think the truth is that we can only start believing that we’re worthy of love if we’re capable of imagining it. And it becomes much, much easier to imagine it if you practice doing so.

It may feel awkward at first. Embarrassing. Silly. Maybe even painful. But think about it like this, maybe: your first day in a dance class, you’ll fall. You’ll look ridiculous. It’ll feel like your body will never be able to do this fluidly. But by the end of the class, you’ll be able to move in a whole new way. Maybe not perfectly, but… better, y’know?

Learn to waltz with your own mind, and try not to cringe too hard at your first awkward movements. Start small and work your way up if you have to. Someone liking you, then someone liking your conversations, then someone liking your presence, then someone purposefully seeking you out. Someone putting time aside for you. Someone thinking about you when you’re not there. Someone being with you because there’s nowhere they’d rather be.

It may feel self-indulgent, but… I mean, we all deserve to be indulged sometimes. And we all deserve to feel worthy of love.

So… indulge yourself. Take a moment and have a silly little fantasy. Get into the habit of imagining love, and imagining it for the you that exists right now, not the you that you wish you were.

Learn to speak the language of love as it applies to you, even if you think that it doesn’t, and one day you’ll realize how to use those syllables to say your own name.

It’ll come one day. In the meantime, let’s learn to dance together, okay?

#personally... #I mean I am disabled and I am not conventionally attractive #I have PTSD now from the kind of childhood abuse that makes you feel... broken I guess #so I have spent an awful lot of my life finding it difficult to imagine truly being loved #when there are so many 'easier' choices in this world it is hard to imagine someone picking me #so believe me when I say I know it's hard #but I also know that I closed myself off to love once I stopped being able to imagine people doing it #I lost the vocabulary for people loving me so when people did it I could no longer describe it #I didn't notice or worse - it stressed me out #but... I have started doing this visualization exercise and it does help #sometimes I have a spark of... well yes this person in this fantasy does deserve to be loved #and I am that person #so there's a spark of hope to it #hope can be good and hope can be bad but... I guess it's necessary too isn't it? #so let's do our best to make our brains stfu when they're being mean and instead focus on self-love
