A couple of weeks ago we visited the little town of Dunkeld in Perthshire in Scotland - it's a lovely little place and also home to a fantastic bakery by a former Great British Bakeoff contestant! 😂 Dunkeld is probably most famous for it's beautiful nature walks though, in particular The Hermitage walk which takes in the very impressive Black Linn waterfall! 😍 We managed to catch the last of the autumnal beauty before this week's snow came! 😂 Hope you enjoy!

Journey to Hopetoun House,Edinburgh

The warm season is the perfect time to go out for a walk, get some fresh air and enjoy nature which comes to life after a few cold months of winter. This is exactly what I think whilst sitting at my workplace.

Well, the decision is made quickly this time – I decide to go to Hopetoun castle. I’ve wanted to see this quiet, secluded estate in the suburbs of Edinburgh located right on the shores of the Firth of Forth for a long time. And then, at the thought of being greeted by the salty air of the North Sea and the picturesque landscape of the silvery smooth surface of the water, I so badly want to buy a bus ticket and go on a trip as soon as possible that I don’t restrain myself. Let’s hit the road!

My trip starts early in the morning. Out of sheer habit, I take a regular bus from Edinburgh to the village of Dalmeny. It feels like everyone is sleepy today except me, my bus is slowly passing through the streets of the city that is just waking up. Neither people nor cars have yet had time to fill it.

Scotland Fix of the Day: The Ring Of Brodgar looks good under a brooding sky. And on our recent visit the heather was beautiful at this Orkney landmark. A relief, too, to see that recent efforts by the National Trust to limit foot traffic has been going well and we were once again able to walk the inner path close to the stones. If you go be aware that they are being flexible with access and when foot traffic gets too heavy (big cruise ships landing) they can optionally limit access. So it depends on all of us to be kind to this ancient Neolithic monument and be kind to NTS staff who have to make these decisions. It’s always a great experience to be there anyway. The Falkirk Wheel is an impressive feat of modern engineering located in Falkirk, Scotland.
