Teo Encyclopedia, part II • continued from part I

the rest of the encyclopedia! This is a guide to which of Teo's flora and fauna show up at Fin Fin's various hangout spots. Fin Fin interacts with many of the creatures of this world, and eats plenty of its food. Different animals show up at different times of year or for different events, and many move around and do their thing independently of fin fin's presence/absence-- this is also your place to explore, after all-- giving the world a more full and randomised feeling. when you're in the Lemo Valley and press the space bar to a rhythm, animals will come out and join in a song.

like most virtual pets (myself included) feeding fin fin is key to befriending him. you're given a pack of those round berries, called Lemo fruits. there are red (basically the default,) green, orange, yellow, and pink lemo fruits. by feeding fin fin four of the same colour within 10 minutes, he'll change colour to match. if you manage to feed him another four in another 10 minutes, the colour will become deeper and richer. after doing this a third time, he'll stay that same colour until the next full moon or new moon by the Teo calendar, which happens every two weeks-- oh, and they do have 2 moons.

the lemo fruits in your package start going bad after about a month. if you feed fin fin an old lemo fruit, he turns blue and gets absolutely twisted

the US deluxe edition of the game only ever had 5 possible locations (3 or 4 in the demo or standard versions) while the Japanese/Chinese/Taiwanese releases had 6. that sixth area is Fin Fin's nest, the home of him, his wife, and their lumpy little baby. which means everyone else missed out on not only seeing the incubation of the egg and the baby growing up, but also, another of Fin Fin's "enemies"…

this spooky thing is a predator called ギラーミン Girāmin/Gillarmine (on EMGE's fan site it's written Gminfly-- unsure if that's strictly a German translation.) i've never found too much footage of it personally, but it has a low, muffled voice.

Debuting on Fujitsu's own FM TOWNS computer in 1995, Fin Fin was originally called Phink (and you'll see his name written as Phin Phin in some translations.)

Each relationship in life is unique. It's the same with Fin Fin because, like a child, he is an independent, unpredictable being with a rich emotional life. He is delighted by kindness and saddened by cruelty. If someone shouts at him, he might squeal with fear and retreat to the safety of his nest. But if a child is nice to him, Fin Fin might launch into acrobatic flying dances or burst into song (he knows more than 60 haunting melodies). Over time, he and the child can become close friends.

Just as Fin Fin responds to kindness, he is moved by the beauty of his world - of the geckoso, a white flower that blooms in the moonlight, of rainbows, of auroras. That is the magic of Fin Fin on Teo, the Magic Planet. It takes a rainforest-covered world from far out in space and brings it down to earth for the enjoyment and enrichment of children.
