Released shortly after Jackson's breakthrough debut, Look Sharp!, I'm the Man saw Jackson continue the style of his earlier album. Singles from the album included "I'm the Man" and "It's Different for Girls", the latter of which was his biggest UK chart single, peaking at number five on the UK Singles Chart. On the album cover, Jackson appears in the guise of a particular type of petty criminal known in the United Kingdom as a spiv, a character who, in Jackson's own words, "always wears a gross polka-dot tie and a pencil-thin mustache, and he's always trying to sell you a watch or something like that real cheap. I think people always want to put a label on what you do, so I thought I'd be one step ahead of them and invent one myself - spiv rock." The album was quickly recorded to follow-up Jackson's successful debut album Look Sharp!. Shortly after Look Sharp's release, Jackson speculated, "Compared to the first album, I think it's a bit more mature. It's getting more interesting as it goes along. Circa 1995: Thorrs Hammer was a short-lived doom/death metal band from Seattle, Washington, USA. The group consisted of Runhild Gammelsæter, a Norwegian exchange student living in the US, on vocals, guitarists Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson, bassist James Hale, and drummer Jamie Sykes. The band played 2 shows and recorded “Dommedagsnatt” before splitting, with Runhild opting to concentrate on her education (she now has a Ph.D.!) while O’Malley, Anderson, and Sykes went on to form Burning Witch. For me, this is one of those feel good songs. A tune that has put me on the floor many times. The group, James Walsh Gypsy Band, was originally from Minneapolis and was formed in 1962 as The Underbeats. By 1969, they had changed their name to Gypsy and took up residency at The Whiskey A Go Go on Sunset Blvd. During that time, they released their biggest hit in 1970 with “Gypsy Queen Part 1”. It later appeared on the compilation album Japanese Whispers. It was recorded when the band was briefly reduced to the two founding members Robert Smith and Lol Tolhurst following the departure of bassist Simon Gallup following the end of the band's previous tour in support of the album Pornography. in May 1982. According to Lol Tolhurst, they chose producer Steve Nye at the time due to his work on the album Tin Drum by Japan. Tolhurst later commented: "It was the first time we had worked with a 'proper' producer, as opposed to doing production with an engineer that we really liked.
