Thinogn of ashe getting picked up all the time when gettugn hugged and jusr giggling like crazy as Dakota or the other two swing her around softly and just ashe petting thier heads and smiling as they melt into her hands and just them fr having movie nights watching movies and just ashe getting laid on top of bc wiwi is cold, Dakota likes the pressure of cuddling, and Vincent likes being on top to 'protect' his lovers even if its for movies. Living in a place depending on survival changes a man frfr, and just ashe petting Vincent's head as his ears are twitching to hear everything at once and just ashe telling Vincent to ease up a bit, that's there's no danger, and Vincent over time trusting her words and melting more into the cuddling

Thimking now of just during that 10 month period vyn and willam just in that broken down warehouse they call home and just willam always being so cold bc of the poor insulation for the house and just vyn sleeping with will to try and warm him up but there beign days nothing can warm up will not even a warm bath and jsut will is just so stiff and cold and on those days he doesn't eat bc he just doesn't have the energy to even think of eating so vyn just trys to distract will with letting will sit in his lap cocoon in many blankets and rock him and talk of stories he remembers in fauna and just will blushing and how close vyn is being and how gentle and caring he's being for will and jsut will at points tearing up bc this is what true love felt for him and feeling vyn wipe tears away jsut makes him melt more and just for most of the night he's always on vyn and slept getting spooned by Vin and his face is in vyns chest so will can smell his clean clothes and hear his heart beat as vyn kola hugs will waiting for will to sleep beofre he can and just ueueeueu

MARK HUGGING ASHE AS SOON AS THE TRICKSTER IS GINE AND JUST BEING LIKE "I got you son. I got you" and his voice is close to tears and just hugging his son so close, and just him falling down to his knees bring ashe with him and ashe just being like "I'm sorry." And mark just burying ashes head into his shoulder neck and just rocking them qnd just being like "you don't gotta be sorry for anything. I gotta be sorry if anything". Mark holding ashe as ashes legs give out and ashe just gettugn fully held up by his dad and mark holding his baby close and and just mark crying but he's just more quite abojt ut and and jsut them sitting on the couch after a bit and it ends to ashe falling sleep on marks lap and just mark rubbing ashes head as the TV plays smtg random and mark doing that thign when ur kid falls asleep and you carry them to bed but ashe just clings to mark and cry more in his sleep haze anytime mark tries to go away and and it leads to mark sleeping in bed with a still crying tired and sleepy ashe who's so tired from the sobs but is still awake bc he jsut wants to be held longer from his dad. Ashe next morning Def hung around his dad like following him around in /he kitchen as mark cooks. Or watching a movie with mark or even gettugn food with mark and jsut ashe at random points squeezing marks hand and mark doing it back and jsut eueueuu

Both ashe and will on their time on the month and them /lh fighting over the heating pad till ashe just lays on will and thry stop fighting

We need airheaded stupid Vincent. I need him burning the house down bc he forgor to put water in a bowl for his Mac and cheeseWe need him touching a active wire and continuing to touch it bc it "felt funny"

Thinking hard on Vincent just resting and willam shyly coming up like fiddling with his hoodie and Vincent waking up bc he heard a noise in his sleep and just sees this poor boy who looks like they haven't slept for days and he's so tired and Vincent just let's will into his bed and big spoons him. Then a few minutes later Dakota comes in a Lil shaky and doesnt even ask anf just flops into bed with the other too and curls around Vincent. Then an hour later a tired and clearly walked here ashe coming in having a tide that's behind her leading to the room and Tide giving a small smile and ashe just gets in bed with the three and and just sleeps ontop of them and oddly Vincent slept harder in his life bc he feels so protected while sleeping than when he's alone

A lot of our properties now both of them are join the water and the song is about a resort and what you're talking about is bigger houses and that's what we have allotted it's all about $3,03500 3000 square feet to 3500 square feet and small like 2 million to 5 million and it's a weird song and it has weird meaning to it and it applies and he says we have a role in building it and we need people to have roles and it looks unique so I don't think you can look different people he's exactly the position as the builder and it kind of looks like Mike benedetto a little when he's younger and it's his grandfather so he wants to pin it on him cuz they screwed that all up it's a good idea things that Mike did something and he sort of did but he couldn't help it. We're not looking forward to it but it is a way to do things that keeps the peace and we need that and we need to order now it's trying to get a little bit better and they're less crazy and they're going ahead and doing things. One of the things they're doing is modifying these ebikes and even some bicycles not many can stand the pounding but there's a lot of weight on the machines usually the ones that can handle 300 lb or 250 lb work really well and they're getting a lot of small engines together and yes from 49cc to 110 depending on where they are these things work great because they're light the biggest person is like 150 lbs normally most of them weigh 55 mph and most of them weigh 120 and the same smallest 49cc scooter will go about 65 and the bigger ones go faster so you can imagine it's working and boy there's a ton of them coming out they have to find the tire and the rim and the brake assembly but they're coming off old motorcycles which can't which won't work the motorcycle frame is ruined the engine is ruined or if you get the frame and the whole bike there's a problem with the VIN and that usually happens by the way even if you do that you put the motorcycle together and you have a couple problems there's always not fast enough you have to have a 25 or 45 and those are actually being put into new motorcycles so those are getting soaked up and this is happening right now and yeah they're making a whole bunch of motorcycles and no they're making makeshift motorcycles it's not ones they made before and it is going on now they're making a lot of them and it is not enough to absorb all those motors but they're using them and other things and not cars they're using them up north that's really what it is absorbing them and the small motors are too small so someone had this idea and it was me and they're using it it came out from my BG and Trump was working on it too and he came out with some the one with the motorcycle tires is the winner and they can make those new and they're making the rims in the tires and the brake assembly and they're coming together fast I mean these are kits I can make a kit on mine but it will only go 35 because I wait too much and that's what they say and it's true even with gears I get to 40 and it's too slow and they're moving out so really I can buy it 110 and I could go 55 or 60 and it'll be better that way because it's going to be well made by the time I get around to it in a year or 6 months and it's starting to look forward to that and more people will have them practically no one has them here but they'll start using them and people will start using them

We're getting the stuff that work here it's going to be more fun than doing nothing all day you have to occupy your time trying or you get depressed and these people almost fell into it but this stuff is theirs this is what they do and they're making them into mopeds and scooters and he was and the making of the mopeds and scooters and boy they are really getting into it and it works and Sarah helped bring it back and they're acting hoity-toity and we're doing anything. Kroashent Commission: Blackwind Spinners

On the prized maps of the Lavigerien Guild, the Forest of Naoned is a wooded area Greyways (NNW) of the city walls, known for its moderate timber production, salmon runs and as the hunting ground of the nobles who keep their manors on the River Islands.  Ask anyone in the city itself who isn't in charge of cartography for the Guild or forestry for the Dug, and they will identify something completely different.  To the inhabitants of the City of Rivers, the Forest of Naoned refers instead to the strange forest of masts and yardarms that lay at anchor within the city walls, where the muddy Erdre River makes its way to join the wide-flowing Liger.  Over the years, ships have long docked at the bustling Port du Vin, the largest market in the city.  But ships ran aground, were damaged in storms or simply abandoned and were towed to the low-lying wetlands opposite the port.  As the city grew, the Paleward (W) Bank became the thriving Mask District, the walls extending to envelop the old ship graveyard, used for landfill and rubbish by the growing city. 

The Forest has become a somewhat permanent fixture in the city, where ships, no longer fit for the river or the sea, are retrofitted into houses, workshops, flophouses and alehouses, buildings popping up on the dryer areas, structures built in and on the hulls.  Small ships still dock on its edges, a local economy emerging on the network of boardwalks, catwalks and bridges between the cabins and ramshackle structures.  The Forest has become home to all manner of creatures, Bediz and Fae alike, plying their trade and living their lives in the strange community that has risen here. 

If one heads deep into the Forest, one may come across an old cog, its fore and aftercastles standing like ruined castles above the rivulets and muddy islands, festooned with dull paint and faded shields of a long-dead Dug.  Inside the aftercastle is an oaken door, emblazoned with the symbol of an acorn.  A chime plays when you enter, like the cord of a crystal harp being struck.  While the ship lies on its side, the floor is even, no small feet, a pristine room, shelves lined with brightly coloured bolts of cloth catching the shimmering light.  In the half-floors above and below, one can see looms, wheels and tables, the tools of the tailor's craft.  High in the darkness above, one might imagine movement, hundreds of tiny legs crossing shimmering webs of sparkling silk.

You turn to find you are not alone, a tall woman smiles at you, looking you up or down.  She wears the livery of La Ligue Briganita, the Tailor's Guild of Naoned, the silver drop-spindle of a journeyman slung around her neck.  She leans against the table, pulling out a measuring tape, when you notice her four arms... and six eyes, watching you with bemused interest.

"Welcome to Blackwind Spinners" The Gwiader says cheerfully, a strange accent to her speech that reminds one of the Northern sailors who work the nearby docks. "Clothing for whatever the Twelve Winds bring your way.  How may I help you today?"

In Happy Times, Our Love Does Grow, Chapter 21: Almost A Family

Summary: Viv hijacks Wanda and Vision's date again, but Wanda doesn't really mind.

A little while later, Vision headed up to the counter, ordering a McChicken meal for Wanda, a hamburger Happy Meal for Viv, and the classic Big Mac for himself. Viv, a well behaved child for the most part, was happy to sit and eat quietly while the adults talked.

"So, you've never been tempted to go back to Sokovia?" Vision asked, after swallowing his latest mouthful.

"God, no. That whole country is a.." She'd been about to say gaura de rahat.. translation, 'Shit-hole', but stopped herself, mindful of Vivian's presence. "There are just too many bad memories. Not too mention it's still a war-zone most of the time."

"Ah.. When you put it that way, I see why you would not want to go back.." Vision frowned. She had suffered so much.

"What about you, Vizh?" Wanda popped a few fries in her mouth.

"Hmm?"

"Have you ever thought about going back to Britain?" Wanda clarified. "Looking for your Family?"

"A little, when we lost Vin, and just after Vivian was born.." Vision replied. "More for medical history than anything else. Otherwise, I don't see much reason to. I found my family here in the U.S."

"Like Lilo & Stitch" Viv piped up through a mouthful of burger. "You found your family all on your own."

"Don't talk with your mouthful" Vision gently scolded, then smiled. "But yes, a bit like that.."

"Lilo & Stitch.." Wanda thought for a moment. "That's the one with the little girl and the crazy alien, right?"

Viv swallowed her next mouthful before she answered.

"Uh-huh."

"I don't think I've ever seen that one.. Of course, there are a lot of those movies that I haven't seen."

"But you have to see it!" Viv gasped. "It's one of our most favorite movies. Daddy, can we all go home and watch it?"

"Well.." Vision sighed, hesitating slightly, feeling a little as though Viv was hijacking his date yet again. "We were going to get dessert.."

"We can always get it to go" Wanda shrugged. "I'm off work Tomorrow, so I'm happy to go watch a movie."

"If you're sure.."

"I'm sure."

"Yay!" Viv jumped up from her seat and ran to join the line at the counter, behind an exhausted young couple with a fussy toddler, and a suspiciously red-eyed man who probably had the munchies.

"Vivian, you haven't finished your fries!" cried Vision exasperatedly, before turning to Wanda with an apologetic expression. "Sorry again.."

"Vizh, I already said it's okay.." Wanda couldn't help laughing a little at how worried he was. "This was fun. Movies at home are fun too. And Viv is fun. Sure, it might be nice to try for a bit of alone time next time, but it's no big deal.."

"N-Next time?" Vision's eyes lit up.

Wanda, suddenly caught in her own insecurities once more, failed to notice that light.

"I.. well.." Shit. Wanda thought things had been going well, but maybe she'd assumed too much. Maybe she'd screwed up, pushed too hard, made him feel uncomfortable with her question about returning to Britain.. She stood awkwardly. "I thought.. But if you don't want a next time.."

"Of course I want a next time!" Vision jumped up as eagerly as his daughter had a few moments before, grabbing Wanda's hand. "I want multiple next times. I want more dinners, and lunches, and movie nights and.. Maybe I am getting a little ahead of myself" Vision blushed.

Wanda, calm again now, laughed, a soft melodious sort of sound, and Vision's blush deepened, because Wanda's laughter was one of the most wonderful things he had ever heard.

"I don't think you're too far ahead, Vizh."

"Good.. My point is, I really do want a next time.."

"So do I" Wanda smiled softly. "We'll talk about it later.. For now, dessert. What's good? I've never had dessert here before."

"Well, I have always been partial to the apple pie.." Vision replied, as they walked hand in hand to join Viv in line. --

A short while later, they were back at Vision's house once more, and after changing Viv into her pajamas, they all settled down to watch their movie.

They ate their desserts, apple pies for Wanda and Vision, and a strawberry sundae for Viv, as they watched.

Wanda found herself tearing up at a few points in the film. Lilo's story about the loss of her parents, Stitch feeling 'Lost'. Seeing Wanda's tears, Vivian crawled into her lap, snuggling close, and Wanda couldn't help smiling, gently stroking the little girl's hair.

Vision watched them both for a while, rather entranced. Viv fit in snuggled against Wanda like she belonged there. Though it was still much too soon to think it, the words flashed in his mind again. His girls. Slowly, almost shyly, Vision draped his arm around Wanda.

Without really thinking about it, Wanda rested her head on Vision's shoulder, shuffling slightly closer to him on the sofa.

To someone who didn't know any better, they already looked like a family.

Shortly after the credits rolled, Viv dozed off in Wanda's lap.

"I'd better get her to bed.." Vision reached for his daughter.

"I've got her" Wanda stood, holding Viv. The little girl was a pleasant warm weight in her arms, her hand clutching the front of Wanda's sweater. "Down the hall, second door on the right, right?"

"Yes" Vision nodded. "That's right."

Wanda headed down the hall to carry Viv to her room, and Vision followed quietly behind them. As he watched Wanda gently tuck Viv into bed, he felt a pang in his heart, reminded of the maternal influence that Viv had never really had, and that Wanda had not had for nearly long enough. Wanda pressed a kiss to Viv's forehead, then headed back over to him, frowning a little at his expression.

"Are you okay, Vizh?"

"Yes.. Just thinking."

"Right.." She blushed. "I, uh, suppose I'd better head home soon."

Vision had a sudden desire to ask her to stay. It felt so much like she belonged there already. However, he didn't want Wanda to get the wrong idea, even though he, of course, would have slept on the couch.

"Of course" He said instead. "I will call you a cab." --

The cab arrived all too soon, and Vision walked Wanda out to the sidewalk where it had parked. Hand in hand.. they'd been doing a lot of that.

"So.." Vision began. "About, uh, 'next time'.. I heard you say you were off work Tomorrow, but did you have any other plans?"

"Not really.. why?"

"I'm free tomorrow too. Scott is taking Viv to play with Cassie after preschool.. W-We could do lunch? I know a nice little Cafe.."

Wanda smiled at his awkwardness. It was adorable.

"Sure. Lunch would be great. See you Tomorrow, then?"

"Yes.. Tomorrow." Vision hesitated for a moment. Should he kiss her? Did she want him to kiss her?

Wanda did, but she found herself feeling as nervous as Vision was. She had not had a first kiss, a real first kiss, the kind of kiss that was supposed to be the start of something special, for a long time. She actually found herself grateful for an excuse to wait a little longer.

"Hey. No pressure, taking it slow, remember?" She smiled, then tapped her cheek. "Here is fine."

"Alright" Vision smiled softly, kissing Wanda's cheek, and opening the cab door for her. "I'll pick you up around 12:30?"

"Perfect."

"Don't forget to.."

"Text you when I'm home safe" Wanda chuckled as she got in the cab. "I know. See you Tomorrow."

"See you Tomorrow."

Vision paid the driver, once again including a generous tip. He watched the cab until it was out of sight before he headed back inside, sighing.

The House felt surprisingly empty.

Hello Family

Fandom: Shall We Date? Love Tangle Summary: Set after both Yangzi and Lumiere’s Hello Baby stories, this story explores the dynamic of their shared families.

The ice rink where he usually coached at was only a short bus trip from home.  In fact when they bought the house, that had been a major selling point for him (that and the only place that served decent larb ped was only a block away).

As they say, location, location, location.  

And within twenty minutes they were located right at home at the front door, one of many in a block of brick rowhouses in one of Kaleido's better neighborhoods.  Their door was always the most special one, though, because it was theirs in both heart and deed.  He would never smile while fumbling with the keys to get in, but it always thawed his heart a bit knowing that any second they were going to cross the threshold and finally be home once more.

But someone didn't seem too enthused.

"Dad, do I have to do homework right now?" his cute yet stoic daughter protested as they went inside, referring back to one of their conversations on the bus after skating practice.  "I'm too tired."

How did seven-year-olds even get tired? he wondered as he sighed and took off their coats after closing the door, vaguely responding in turn, "Michelle, you know the rules..."  

(The rules tended to be that Dad was a pushover when it came to allowing some rest between activities while Mom was the one who wanted everything to be finished for the day before anyone rested, and so he placed his hand on his daughter's head as a brief sign of apology.)

They heard a voice from a room or two away, likely signaled by the closing of the door and Michelle's spoken words, saying: "Yangzi?  Michelle?  Is that you?"

Indeed it was them.  Yangzi haphazardly kicked off his shoes while placing his daughter's neatly where they were supposed to be.  

"Yeah, honey, we're home."

There was silence for one second, two seconds, three seconds, four--

"MICHELLE!"  It was another voice this time, one that caused Yangzi a headache at least once a day, barely accompanied by a blur as she whizzed past and grabbed on to his daughter, stealing her away into the night (or, you know, the play room).

Again, Yangzi sighed and said to pretty much nothing at that point as he collapsed on the entryway bench, "Hi Titania, how was your day?"  Of course, Titania was long gone.  She rarely sat still at that age, although the same could be said of Michelle when she was the ripe old age of five as well.

"Did she just...?" asked Lumiere apologetically as he came into the foyer with Julia.

Almost simultaneously, Julia rushed up to him with a hug.  

"Welcome home, Yangzi."

Then Lumiere laughed, and he had been in the process of getting out a word of welcome when the authoritative voice of his princess overshadowed all:

"KING DADDY, THE COURT NEEDS YOU!"

"Ah!  Alas, Yangzi, I must--"

"DAAAADDDYYYYYYY!!"

"Fine, fine..."

Julia laughed while Yangzi shook his head.

"Anyway, I'll let you get settled in, but as soon as you're able, can you help me with dinner?"

It was a simple enough task, so he nodded, appreciating the time alone.  After all, tonight was a special night...the Vegasus Nationals.  

The texts were already coming in from colleagues he had met during his time as a professional figure skater as well as texts from fellow coaches within his network, wanting to know his thoughts about sportscaster analysis, the judges, who was going to blow it out of the water this year...  It was well appreciated, even though he represented and supported Kaleido's talent now as a coach.  Analyzing the Vegasus Nationals was top on his to-do list that night because the Internationals, which a client of his would be participating in, was closing in each minute that passed.

He took a moment to answer some of the texts and emails, and to spread some thoughts on a popular social media network, where his account had thousands of followers as fans and members of the industry.  The big event was trending, even.  Figure skating wasn't the most popular sport in the world, so he took pride in its popularity when it came.  Briefly he wondered even if there was some form of media out there that incurred an increased interest in ice skating.

Already in game mode, he brought out his tablet and turned on the living room television to the sports channel covering the event.  With a stylus, he was in the middle of jotting down the names of key players when he was interrupted with

"...I thought you said you were going to help me with dinner."

Yangzi blinked.  Of course, yeah, dinner, but he had just...  Then Julia's eyebrows arched, her mouth tightened, and at once he knew That Look.  If he didn't get up to the kitchen right then there would be hell to pay.

"Yeah, yeah..."

As he followed Julia into the kitchen, he figured that by the time they were finished the actual performances were due to start, and he could always do prep-work for a formal analysis for his clients and social media fans later while he gathered his thoughts.  The ones he would give live would be quick and fleeting, 140 characters or less.  After all, watching and analysing the main event was going to be key tonight if he expected to--

"So, the rice paper rolls are right there on the counter if you wanted to get started...  I brought out everything I think you would want, so I'm sorry if I missed something," Julia interrupted his thoughts with a quick flourish of her hand.  Next to the spring roll station she begun work on a chicken and mushroom concoction with a red wine reduction that was starting to smell familiar.

"Hey, we had that before, right?  When Lumiere, uh..." Yangzi laughed, "when Lumiere decided to make it."

Her giggle was small as her focus was large when she prepped the chicken, "Yeah, and you and the kids secretly ordered take-out."

It was his turn to laugh then.

"Oh, you knew about that?"

"How couldn't I?  I smelled it, and I was so jealous!"

They both laughed as it was for the best that Lumiere was off entertaining the girls.

"Well, sorry, you seemed to be okay with eating it, otherwise I would have..."

For a second she put her hand on his before removing it to work on the mushrooms next, and then admitted, "I knew you guys weren't going to eat it, and I didn't want to waste all the time he spent making it..."

With a smirk, Yangzi declared, "Well that was in the past, and we're gonna make this coq au vin even better this time."

"Coq au vin...with spring rolls!"

He snorted.  "Yeah, with spring rolls."

For a moment he supposed it was probably touching that Julia tried so hard to integrate varying national foods of comfort into their lives, but honestly even if they ate store-bought mac and cheese every day, that would have been all right with him (...as long as Lumiere didn't cook it).

"Hey, Yangzi," she said after about a minute of silence, "there's something I want to talk to you about."

At once he gulped.  He hated hearing that phrase because it always brought something uncomfortable for him to think about.  Why didn't she just go into what she wanted to talk about normally without sounding off the alarms?

"You know how this Saturday...."

It was their big getaway celebration for their tenth anniversary, that's what it was.

"Michelle's having her first sleepover with friends," Yangzi finished, knowing intuitively what the direction of her concern might be.  At least, he hoped.  Or, rather, it was his concern all along.

Julia nodded, much to his relief.

"I think she'll be all right," Julia began, "and I know we're prepared to go get her if something goes south, but I am worried about when she sees her friend's family and compares it to ours.  Or when the other girls talk about their families, and she realizes that ours is...different."

Yangzi shook his head.  "Nah, I don't think it's that big of a deal.  At that age, kids are pretty self-oriented.  They'll probably just talk about all the things that interest them."

At least, he hoped and wished that after secretly reading a parenting book or two during his commute on the bus.

"You're probably right," she said as she moved to the side to lay her head on his shoulder, "but it's just been eating away at me all week."

"Nah, nah," Yangzi dismissed as he attempted to reassure her, "don't worry about it.  I mean, think of who her father is--"

"I'm worrying."

"--And rea--"

Julia burst into laughter as Yangzi's face changed from an optimistically inspiring one to that of abject despair at her words.

He snorted again, and she laughed some more.

"Sorry, sorry," she apologized, "but seriously, I want to have a talk with her before Saturday...about family."

"Yeah, I get it," Yangzi confessed uncomfortably while slightly turning away from her.  "I mean, remember when she started school this year and asked if we were divorced of all things based on something her heckin' teacher said?"

"We just said 'no,' which seemed to reassure her, but sometimes I wonder if--"

"I think Michelle is smart enough to ask questions if she thinks she doesn't understand," interrupted Yangzi, resolutely almost, and Julia simply nodded in agreement.

When he finished with the spring rolls, he helped her bring everything to the skillet, leaving it to simmer for a while.  He had a good, what, half an hour or so until everything was done?  The Nationals were just about to actually start.  This was a prime time to sneak downstairs into the so-called 'Man Cave' to get some work done.

"Right, see you," he said quickly once his work was done, leaving Julia alone with her thoughts in the kitchen as he grabbed his tablet and headed downstairs.

As he flicked on the light, he was comforted by the soothing, warm tones of said 'Man Cave', decorated floor to ceiling with his trophies, outfit designs by Lumiere, photos of Kaleido leopards, newspaper clippings about the highlights of their careers, and, more recently, an award of Michelle's.  Yet again he sighed, more pleasantly this time as he plopped himself on the familiar couch and turned on that familiar sports network.

But he was only comfortable and able to concentrate on his work for so long before...

"WE NEED TO WATCH SAILOR GALAXY AND FRIENDS!"

Ah, Titania.

"And I'm going to do my homework, too."

He turned his head to look at the hopeful little girl carrying a textbook and paper and the enthusiastic littler girl sporting a cool tiara...and Lumiere behind them, looking entirely apologetic.

"Fine, fine," he acquiesced, realizing the theme of futile resistance that day.

At once, everyone crowded in and Michelle was the one to take charge of the remote control and switch it to her favorite channel where almost immediately a catchy theme song started to play.  Titania started dancing and Michelle bobbed her head as Lumiere settled into the couch next to Yangzi.

The girls had good timing, to say the least.

"Bravo, girls, we did it!  We completed the quest, and--"

"SHHH, DADDY, WE'RE TRYING TO WATCH."

Lumiere gave a defeated chuckle as he extended his arm on the backrest behind Yangzi, settling into the couch while acting as if numerous pounds had just been lifted from his shoulders and it was the first time all day he had grasped some rest (and while on kid-watching duty, that may have actually been closer to the truth).  He looked over to Yangzi, exhaustion and vulnerability coloring his face, and whispered, "There's no pleasing them, is there?"

Yangzi snorted in response, not envious of Lumiere's position as he grabbed his tablet and left, giving a simple "I'll be upstairs," as his parting words.

The Invasion of the Hallowed Man Cave was a common enough occurrence despite the playroom sporting a television specifically for the girls to watch Sailor Galaxy and Friends, Princess Sparklepony, and whatever other drivel they were obsessed with at the moment.  But what was the point in having a television in there if they were just going to flock to the room where someone else was watching something first?  Julia actually had a theory, come to think of it, that the television and its location was irrelevant as far as the children's needs went, and that the children were actually seeking, um, companionship? Even though they had each other? A need to share excitement and joy in their limited community as a resource in itself?  Something like....that?

He was going to have to ask Julia again about that theory.

Now, back in the living room, Yangzi settled down again with the sports network, praying he wouldn't be interrupted again.  He lounged comfortably on the couch, armed with his trusty phone and tablet as he juggled his attention between the two devices and what was happening on the television screen.  According to the schedule and his social media feed, he had missed the first performance, although it seemed to be nothing to write home about.  That was fine because he had the rest of the night to take in.

For the next half hour he was able to draft up some general thoughts to use for his formal analysis as well as quickly air off on social media thoughts about the sportscaster commentary, the pair of performances he managed to see, and how delicious dinner was starting to smell.  He even was able to respond to a few comments on his posts when, once again...

"IIIIIIIIT'S PRINCESS SPARKLEPONY TIME!"

At that point Yangzi had been in the zone and was starting to lose patience.

"Seriously?" he asked in a tone sharper than he had intended.

"UM...YEAH?"

Lumiere was right behind Titania, and Yangzi could definitely see the exhaustion practically hanging over and gripping him in a tight embrace.  It was in his mannerisms, it was in his voice as he explained, "Sorry, Yangzi, but Miss Velociraptor didn't want to watch Princess Sparklepony, and--"

"PRINCESS SPARKLEPONY TIME!" Titania interrupted and went for the remote, deftly changing the channel in a practiced motion.  If Yangzi wasn't so irritated he would be quite proud that she had mastered full use of the control while her mother still struggled to tell the difference between the volume and channel buttons.

But the fact remained that he was irritated - irritated and conceding defeat, and the theme song for Princess Sparklepony (season three, not as good as the first two) only heralded that.

"Do whatever you want, I..."

He set his tablet aside as Titania almost body-slammed on top of him - "oof!" - while Lumiere still stood in the doorway with a complicated expression.

"DADDY, WATCH PRINCESS SPARKLEPONY WITH US!"

"The more the merrier," added Yangzi dryly as he set his attention to his phone, feeling the headache coming on again as he was trying to gather context of the ongoing performance from his social media feed.

"YEAH!"

Lumiere was a bit more delicate than his daughter when it came to joining Yangzi on the couch, choosing not to body-slam but instead to carefully position himself next to him in a slight hug.  "I'm sorry," he whispered as he rest his head on Yangzi's shoulder, "I know you were doing something, but--"

"SHHH, DADDY."

What did Lumiere think he was trying to pull, talking while Princess Sparklepony was on?  

Honestly, if Yangzi considered himself a pushover when it came to his daughter then Lumiere was even worse than that.  Again, he didn't envy his role in manning the girls today in the slightest, and even he could see the vitality and life they pulled from him.  It wasn't to say that children were a drain because far be it - the girls were a constant source of pride, wonder, and love - but for the first time actually he wondered if Lumiere could have used help just as Julia did cooking dinner.

He felt his phone buzz and with it came a text from Lumiere - despite him being literally right there:

>What's wrong?

What was wrong? Yangzi asked himself and aside from not being able to participate in the Vegasus Nationals as much as he wanted, not much else.

>Nothing

>Truly?

>Truly??

>I'm being serious Yangzi is there something wrong?

Yangzi looked over at Lumiere inches away from him, looking up at him with a complicated expression, and at once he felt he was missing something.

>Nothing wrong just wanted 2 watch tv

Again he looked over at Lumiere and could tell that his answer wasn't cutting it for some reason.

Fortunately he was saved by the bell - well, the dinner bell - okay, Julia saying that dinner was ready.

The moments that passed between then and finally sitting down at the table were a blur (and they always were with children).  In between trying to actually turn the television off and everyone's hands washed, there were some arguments and fruitlessly attempted negotiations, the sensation of truly becoming 'one' with the meaning of the word 'hangry', hiding in the closet for the first time, and even a brief bout of crying (we're not going to say from who).  

In the end Julia gave up calling everyone to dinner and instead forcibly escorted them to their designated positions at the table.  If she felt frazzled by the exchange then there was no indication of it in her demeanor as she saw to it that everyone had a helping of what they would reasonably eat on their plates.  

After all, there was a reason why Lumiere frequently joked despite Yangzi's posturing that she was actually the one in charge.

"I think," Julia began once everyone had a full plate, "that we should go around the table and each of us should describe something that makes us feel thankful."

"What a wonderful idea, Miss Fairy!" Lumiere exclaimed as he jumped aboard.  After all, he was the only one aside from Julia who hadn't yet begun eating.  "I would be honored to start.  May I?"

"Go right ahead."

As Lumiere cleared his throat and scanned the table, he said with a flourish of his hand, "I am thankful...for each and every one of you being in my life.  The past decade has brought about the most wonderful years filled with light and love.  For a time, I didn't know how I could be happier, and then you came into our lives Miss Velociraptor."

"HEY, WHAT ABOUT ME?"

"For a time I thought my happiness was complete," he continued steadily, "I didn't know how I could be happier, but then you came along, too, my darling Princess.  Now I truly feel not just happy but absolutely blessed to have each and every one of you here with me.  Thank you all."

Yangzi snorted slightly because leave it to Lumiere to turn a simple activity into a grand declaration of love, but he also couldn't help but smile a little.  He felt very similarly, after all, even if he would never express those feelings to everyone so sappily.

"You're welcome," Michelle mentioned as she was about to munch on a mushroom.  Short and simple, that was his girl.

"YEAH!  I'M HAPPY, TOO!" That was Titania, excited and full of love as the said Princess exclaimed, "I'M THANKFUL FOR MY FAMILY!"

Julia giggled and placed her hand on top of Lumiere's, "Lumiere, that was a wonderful sentiment.  Titania, sweetie, you, too!"  Then she turned her attention to Yangzi and at that moment he found something in her gaze that was more expectant than usual.  

"What about you, Yangzi?  What are you thankful for?"

Of course there was plenty he was thankful for but that didn't mean he had to go confessional at dinner - or at all.

"I'm just thankful the chicken's not burned this time."

Titania unintentionally took the sting out of the withering, disappointed look that both Julia and Lumiere gave Yangzi and added her own two cents, "YEAH!  LAST TIME IT WAS BURNED!"

"And gross," Michelle chimed in, and Yangzi couldn't help but laugh because it had really been that bad.

"I didn't think it gross at all!" Lumiere tried to defend.  "I even had it every day for lunch."

Julia just put her head in her hand and admitted, "Well, you were the only one who ate it..."

"How?" Michelle laughed as she pushed some of her food around before scooping it up and eating it.

"What do you mean how?"

"All right, all right, gross chicken is in the past," Julia ruled, putting any further discussion about it in the past as well as she tried to get them back on a more pleasant topic.  "Michelle, what about you?  What are you thankful for?"

She scrunched her lips together and tapped her chin for an extended period of time before Yangzi lost patience and added, "C'mon, I had to answer so you answer, too."

"I'm thankful for..." she finally drew the words out as she spoke, "...Lumiere calling me Miss Velociraptor now.  Instead of Miss Pixie."

"...And I have so many questions about that that no one will answer me," Julie admitted flatly, giving up on this heartwarming family scenario that she had so many hopes and dreams about.

Michelle smiled and responded, "I'm clever...and so are velociraptors.  They are so much cooler than Pixies!"

"Miss Fairy, my love, it was all age-appropriate and no one had nightmares," Lumiere yet again defended even though he probably should have left it with Michelle's response.

"I DID!"

"You did not."

"You told me you dreamed you were a T-Rex...  How is that a nightmare?"

"BUT I DIDN'T GET TO EAT ANYBODY."

"Not even the guy on the toilet?" Yangzi added.

"NOOOOO!  THAT WAS GROSS!"

He laughed, but then again so did she so all was right.

"And...what about you, Miss Fairy?" Lumiere asked softly, guilty for being part of the derailment of her touching family moment.

Much like Yangzi, she snorted dryly and shook her head, "I'm thankful I get to go to work for most of the day..."

In the end, Yangzi never did get back to watching the Vegasus Nationals.  

His social media feed was left hanging because right after dinner it was discovered that Michelle never did actually do her homework despite saying she would, so he had to take some time to make sure she was doing all right with it.  Julia helped at the end when he became frustrated with the content, and they swapped places so that he could take care of washing the dishes and tidying up the kitchen.

Then were was bath time drama when Titania only wanted her mother to help with a bath, so again Julia swapped with Lumiere while Yangzi was content in the kitchen, again trying to gather context about the performances through social media.  But it turned out that Lumiere was no help for Michelle's homework in comparison to her Dr. Mom.  About that time Yangzi was done with the kitchen and tried to help with homework, but in the end they just ended up using a search engine for basic concepts and Michelle became frustrated and decided it was time for bed.  At the time same Julia was tucking in Titania for bed, so really that was kind of a winning scenario?  If someone squinted at it and wished fervently?

At least, Yangzi declared it so and once again attempted to watch the last of the performances that night, however, both Julia and Lumiere cornered him and had other plans...

Which led to them being sweaty but satisfied in their shared bedroom.

Neither Lumiere nor Julia spoke much, keeping Yangzi in the middle as they held each others hand or stroked each others arm before moving to his chest.  They were still coming down after experiencing a great fall, and for a while he had one hand planted on each of them, even giving them both soft kisses on their bodies before his curiosity about what he missed during the Vegasus Nationals took hold of him once he had exited the zone.

He reached over Lumiere for his phone.

At once both of them protested with a disgusted sigh and a harsh "really?"  It wasn't as if this was a minor irritation once but rather something that had been building all night.

"What?"  What was the big deal?

"You've been on your phone all day!"  That was Lumiere, rising up to rest on his elbow as he somewhat hovered over Yangzi, comfortably on his back again with his cell phone while checking the comments.

"Since you got home, you've just been so distant," Julia added, rolling over to her side to face him.

He felt kind of cornered if he was honest.  "The Vegasus Nationals are today...  What the heck is the big deal?  I just want to check on how things are going!  I mean, you know this is for my work, right?"

With that, Lumiere backed down a bit because in a sense he understood, but Julia was still coming strong.

"You can look at that later," Julia said, looking him directly in his eye, "but the day of our ten year anniversary only comes once."

...Wait, what?

He looked at Lumiere, and he looked at Julia, and both of them seemed to be gazing at him with the same intensity.

"But," he protested, a bit weak against that strong gaze of Julia's, "we're celebrating our tenth anniversary of us together...this weekend.  And besides, the actual anniversary is...tomorrow."

There was a second, then another second, before Julia and Lumiere looked at each other and decided, "No, the actual day of our tenth anniverary is today, Yangzi."

And it so, totally, was not.

It was so totally not that Yangzi just laughed which disarmed them both.

"This is all because you think I've been distant on our anniversary as a triad?  When it's not actually our anniversary?"

"It is," Julia firmly maintained.  "It's on our calendar.  But I guess you wouldn't know because you won't get the same kind of phone as us..."

"Honey," and that honey referred them both, "today is not our anniversary.  Do you remember the day we decided we were all going to be together?  What event was happening in the background?"

Julia had been the one to argue, but it was Lumiere who took out his phone and added, "It was actually the Vegasus Nationals ten years ago, wasn't it?"

She nodded, remembering.  "It was the first time you weren't a part of it since you were skating for Kaleido then."

"Aaaand," Yangzi said with a shit-eating grin, "what date was that?"

Lumiere at once dropped back to the bed and outstretched his hand to Julia, who grabbed his phone to read.

"I'm so stupid," he moaned as she gasped, "but it's in our calendar as today!"

"What?"  She clutched his phone.  And there she verified that the anniversary of the Vegasus Nationals ten years ago...was tomorrow.  "How did we make this mistake?"

Yangzi shrugged.  "Maybe you two with your synced calendars made a mistake when you upgraded phones this year?  Not that I would know since I..."

"Oh shut up about your ancient phone," Lumiere pouted and kissed him deeply.  

Julia followed suit with a "just shut up entirely" which made the three of them laugh and then kissed him deeply, too.

Not a bad end to a not-anniversary if he did say so himself.

When I’m With You

“Hello?” Harry’s voice echoes through the house as he walks in through the garage door after his meeting this afternoon. “Elizabeth darling, are yeh home?”

“No No No! I’m not ready for you to be home.” I curse softly to myself as I attempt to fasten the latch on the brand new Agent Provocateur lingerie I had bought for the special day.  Once my bra is secured, I lift my leg, stepping into the beautiful cream lace knickers.

“Love? Are yeh up here?” I can hear my boyfriend’s strong feet as he makes his way up the stairs, knowing he will soon be walking into the bedroom where part of his surprise will be ruined. Stepping quickly into the knickers, my toe catches on the material, causing it to tear a massive hole through the sheer cream lace.

“Can anything else go wrong today?” I start to cry as I hold the expensive article between my fingers, the heel of my hands come to my eyes as the tears fall down my face. I fall to the floor, the silk of my robe pooling around my body.

“Naked and waiting already?” Harry’s tone is cheeky as we walks into the closet, with me on the floor, silently crying. “Baby? Are yeh cryin’?” Harry can hear the soft sobs coming from my body. I feel him sit behind me, wrapping his arms around me, pulling me into his chest, which makes my body relax.

“Yes.” I confirm. “Nothing is going right today, and I’m a bit frustrated.” The irritation pours out of my voice as I speak. Today is Valentine’s Day. Our first Valentine’s Day. I have been planning for weeks, and it just seems that nothing wants to go my way.

“Wha’s gone wrong?” Harry’s voice is like smooth chocolate as he talks in my ear.

“Everything.” I pout, dangling the ripped lace from my fingers. I feel Harry’s hand against mine as he takes the pair of knickers into his hands, examining the fabric between his fingers.

“Are these new?” Harry asks, ready to make a small joke in an effort to get me to laugh.

“Yes, I picked them out for tonight, and as I was stepping into them, my toe caught and well… you can see the result.” I move my hands up to my face in embarrassment, because who tears their brand new lingerie with their toe? Apparently I do.

“Good thing we don’t need knicka’s to make love.” His voice has a slight chuckle to it as he crumples up the expensive fabric, throwing it like a basketball towards the bin, accomplishing his goal as it lands inside. “Dinner smells lovely.” Harry attempts to change the subject in hopes of bringing my mood back up.

“No No No No NO!!” Jumping out of Harry’s arms, I sprint out of the closet and down to the kitchen, tying my dressing gown as my feet pound down the stairs. “This. Is. not. Good.” I open the oven, a massive cloud of smoke escaping as the Coq Au Vin I made for dinner is on fire. “SUCK A FISH! NO NO NO!” The tears are streaming down my face as I attempt to fan the fire with a towel, which is just making the flames grow.

“Close the oven, love.” Harry is calm and obviously the only one who is thinking clearly. He closes the oven and turns off the heat, which puts the flames out.

“UGHHHH! I. GIVE. UP!” My body falls against the island in the middle of the kitchen, my arms knocking over the vase that is housing a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The water splashes across the counter creating a big mess of liquid and petals. I begin to let the sobs take over, my tears adding to the giant puddle on the marble countertop.

“Don’t give up, darling, ‘m sure there is something that has gone alright today.” I can hear the worry in his voice as he tries his hardest to help me see the good that has happened today. He moves to wipe up the water and flowers with a towel.

“Nope.” I say, the p making an audible pop. “I made flummery.”

“Flummery? I love flummery.” I peak over at my boyfriend, who has a smile the size of China on his face.

“Do you like runny flummery? Because I made three batches and it wouldn’t set up. Not once.” I’m disappointed that I couldn’t make one of Harry’s favorite desserts. Who knew dessert pudding would be so difficult?

“Runny flummery sounds lovely to me.” Harry is trying, but it isn’t making it any better. I feel bad that I have ruined our first Valentine’s Day. I roll my eyes so hard, it hurts my head.

“I just wanted today to be perfect, ya know?” The tears fall from my eyes, soaking my cheeks.

“Hey.” Harry comes towards me, turning me around so we can look each other in the eyes. “I love you, so much. And today is perfect because I get to spend the night with my favorite human.” His sweet comments make the tears turn into a waterfall, soaking my robe with my sadness. “Give me just a second.” Harry leans in, kissing my forehead as he walks over to the speaker system, connecting his phone and pushing play, allowing the music to fill the kitchen.

“May I have this dance?” Harry holds out his hand, the smile on his face helps me to understand that he is happy and content with just spending the night with me. I place my hand in his as he brings me close to his chest, singing the song lyrics softly in my ear as we glide across the wood flooring in the kitchen.

For you, there'll be no more crying. For you, the sun will be shining. And I feel that when I'm with you, It's alright, I know it's right. To you, I'll give the world. To you, I'll never be cold. 'Cause I feel that when I'm with you, It's alright, I know it's right. And the songbirds are singing, like they know the score. And I love you, I love you, I love you, like never before.

The lyrics of Fleetwood Mac’s Songbird touch my heart as I honestly feel that Harry only wants to be with me, even if my lingerie is torn or my flummery is runny or my Coq Au Vin is on fire. I rest my head against his chest as he kisses my head.

“I love you.” I say into the warmth of his chest.

“I love you more and more each day, darling.” Harry’s finger lifts my chin, bringing my lips to his, sealing his words. His lips meet mine in a kiss that is soft and reassuring. Loving. Kind. Content. Happy.

“I’m thinkin’ heart shaped grilled cheese?” Harry says as he pulls away. The smirk on his face makes me smile for the first time today. “Festive and tasty!”

“I’ll get the wine?” My eyebrow quirks up, letting a slightly cheeky expression grace my face.

“Go get the wine. And after dinner, should we just search romantic comedies on Netflix and see what we find?” The quoting of Woman from his debut album makes me burst into a fit of giggles. I love this boy and I love the fact that he can turn a bad day into a good one with the gift of his smile and charm.

Pilgrim’s Bounty

It had been quite the morning on the Veil Jumper, Darla starting at sunrise with the preparations of the glorious meal to come. The smell of an oven roasted turkey, the fixings to go along with it, and the sweet aroma of various pies and sweets quickly filled the ship, and promised a fine meal. The day wouldn’t be complete without the slap of a hand for a taste stolen of one thing or another, along with Darla chasing the little black fox out of the kitchen with a dish towel -several times-, the older woman not taking notice of the way Atticus would sneak a bite or two to the fox with an endless appetite. Burns from a hot oven lined both Vinarei and Darla’s fingers, and their clothes were a mess… well, more in Vin’s case than in Darlas’.

It was well into the evening when the others arrived, her new-found cousin, Gerald, joining them and bringing along his Uncle Caspian, though they weren’t empty handed. Two aged bottles of whiskey were brought, along with cigars for later in the night. Ginny showed up with a tin of rare tea from Pandaria, and Jaime brought a cask of wine. Laughter filled the ship, jokes to be played on one or the other lightheartedly, and it raised the spirits.

But as Kota sat at the head of the table, Vinarei beside him, Vin took a moment to look around the large, makeshift table that had been put together that was filled with family and friends. Chatter and laughter filled the air, and she reached over to take Kota’s hand and give it a gentle squeeze. Was there any question to what the woman was thankful for? What any of them were thankful for?

Though despair had filled the ship not more than a week ago, loved ones lost, and homes in ruin… they’d come together again, and still celebrated what they had left. Those lost to them were remembered, but the lives that were saved, the ability to move forward after such a disaster were not forgotten.

It was Vin who stood up, knife tapping lightly against her wine glass before the chatter came to an end, and all eyes were on her. “I would like to thank Darla and Fredrick for preparing this very fine meal for us, and the hands thlat helped throughout the day. Thanks to all of you who could join us to spend the holiday together. We have all lost so much…. but we’ve also proven how strong we are together, and how we will come through in the face of adversary stronger than before. Closer. It may be a company that brought us together in search of adventure, relics, and gold, but we’ve evolved into a family, and one I’m extremely thankful for.” Her glass was raised in a cheers fashion, words of agreement and thanks to be had throughout, before the turkey was carved, and the meal was consumed.

Only when dinner had been consumed did Vin lean to the side to whisper to Gerald, urging him with quiet words as they both looked to Atticus. A devilish grin curved Gerry’s lips before Vin pulled away, the man dipping his fork into a bit of mashed potatoes.

Atti’s name was called, attention on the man across from him before he was met with flying potatoes to the face. The table went silent, eyes widening those gathered looked from Gerry to Atti to Darla. The woman turned red in the face as she slowly stood up, deadly gaze of Gerald. But she didn’t speak, words not seeming to come easy to her. Vinarei held her breath, shrinking in the seat a bit since she was the instigator.

Before a scolding could be had, another flying projectile of mashed potatoes was launched, hitting Darla square in the face, and it was her husband, Frederick, who broke the silence with his laughter as he set his fork down. The woman gasped, astonished that her husband would do such a thing, but she quickly got her revenge with a hand full of mac and cheese smeared across the man’s face. A food fight broke out across the table, and as Vin took cover beneath the table with Kota, a quick kiss was stolen before she shoved potatoes in the man’s face and crawled away to safety.

But no one was really safe. Not a single one of them came out clean in the end, and though there was a horrible mess to clean, it had ended in laughter.

Vin and Darla retreated to the other side of the room, a long table set up that housed several desserts, both of them coming up short and gasping in unison. There on the table, sprawled up on his back and his fully belly displayed to the world was a lazy black fox licking his maw, and an empty pie plate beside him, only crumbs remaining.

“Seabee!” Darla scolded the creature before darting after him, but even in his lethargic getaway, she couldn’t catch him.

Laughter erupted once again, before dessert was handed out to anyone who kept room in their stomachs. The night ended with stargazing on the top deck of the ship, quiet stories told until sleep called to each of them.
