post-glass sword moods
So basically I just read the Glass Sword (2nd book of the Red Queen series by Victora Aveyard) and here’s how I feel.
i have a hunch that something’s gonna happen and mare is gonna end up with maven and im not sure i like it; in the first book i was hardcore rooting for Cal (as you could tell if you saw my post) but I honestly wouldn’t mind if she ended up with Maven, but after that betrayal I think it’s gonna be hard forgiving him..... I thought for a long time that the Queen might be controlling Maven but thats all gonna be pretty clear pretty soon since she’s dead and we’re finally getting scenes with him. We’ll see. I’ll definitely post my reactions to the plot twist if anyone is going to be interested in reading those.
i have really mixed feelings about the ship of Cal Calore and Mare Barrow as well to be totally honest. I really really really loved their chemistry in the first book (have i mentioned that before?), but now in this book the romance was so dull
Tumblr media
like if i had to describe them in this book in a nutshell it would go like this:
cal: *constantly whispering in mare’s ear and calming her down*
mare: i should let him go but i cant
THATS IT
that brings me out of the romantic problems to the scene which broke my heart. SHADE DID NOT DESERVE THAT. I loved him soooo much oh my god oh my baby!!!! Don’t even get me started on his romance with Diana Farley! In this book they only had like one scene and even that wasn’t a real scene but there was so much potential and it made me love Farley even more ugh why’d you ruin that for me. At least now I can hope Bree and Tramy will get to shine in the new book of something, just bring in some equally interesting character please.
the goodbye from her family was so sad idek why because it wasnt anything special but it was the only scene that actually brought tears to my eyes

give👏cameron👏more👏attention👏
why do i have a feeling the next book is either gonna be incredibly boring or written from two perspectives
also can we just mention nanny? if they ever make a movie i think she’s gonna be my favorite character sshshshsjs
Tumblr media
anyway im sure no one has even 1% of interest in my stupid rants about these books and you’re welcome to unfollow but like i just want to talk about them and no one i know has ever read this so if you have hmu pls

Book Review Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard  9/10
I really wanted to give it a ten. This book was absolutely extravagant. Aveyard brought in a whole new world of magic. This is completely different in its own way. And I’m telling you, if you for some reason don’t like this spectacular cover or this golden summary just give it a try. Just read the first few chapters and then read a few more. Its setup is one of the best I’ve ever read. And it’s ending left my jaw dropped.
Mare Barrow has grown up in a world separated by blood. Silver-the godly men and women who attain powers and higher treatment; and Red-powerless humans who are lowly scum to the Silvers. As a Red, Mare lives in the Slums with her sister, mother, and disabled father. But simply by chance, that all changes. Mare discovers her own powers, her own abilities.. one problem: her blood is Red.                                                                                                              Thrusted into the royal family’s ‘divine’ care, Mare is unwillingly betrothed to a prince and titled a lost Silver princess. Risking her safety, she joins up with the Scarlet Guard-leaders of the Red rebellion. With her personality and style, she may even attain a lover....
That’s right it’s got some difficult romance-just enough. But of course, don’t forget the amazing characters and how they all have their own place in this piece of art. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! Must read guys and girls. It’s a must read ladies and gentlemen.
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy

I'm going to have to apologize in advanced, because I already know that keeping this review to five sentences is going to be very difficult, so I'm not even going to try. The Red Queen started popping up in my newsfeeds and emails a couple months ago, and despite the hype, mentally I was prepared to be disappointed. I was finding it compared to The Selection Series and Graceling, both books (series) I have read, and both of them I started out loving and ended up not very happy with them for different reasons. Also, with big named publishers, books tend to get a lot of hype and advertisement because of who is backing them. What I'm trying to say is, I wasn't buying into the hype. I saw the book on my library's Overdrive Ebooks list and thought it was at least worth a chance. I.want.to.own.these.books. ...and book 1 is the only one out. So, I can see the relationship to The Selection and Graceling, and I would add The Hunger Games in the mix too, because of the arrogant turning their noses on those who provide them basically everything. The world building was absolutely excellent! I didn't feel lost or confused about what was going on or why. I also really enjoyed that none of the characters were perfect, every last one of them had their strengths and flaws making the story feel more believable, and is a bit rare in these dystopian type books - usually at least one of the characters is a little extra special. I did find that much of the book was predictable; due to foreshadowing I really wasn't surprised by much of the story at all, but I absolutely LOVED reading it through. If I were to pick a favorite part, I would say it would be the conversations between Mere and Cal and Mere and Maven, the Princes of the kingdom; and how while the book was about the ruling class of super-humans and the normal humans living as a secondary slave class, both sides of the spectrum feel trapped and confined by their lives. It really plays in the whole "grass is not always greener on the other side" concept, although there truly is a lesser more oppressed side. The biggest downside of this series....now the wait for book 2 has begun! Rated: PG-13; Some Cussing Genre: Young Adult: Dystopian, Romance Rating: 5 Stars
