Maybe at this rate I will end up responding to all petty comments about Engage but sometimes this is too much.
Ok, so for a record I saw some people saying that Alear making a bandage for Veyle was a poor attempt at seeting up their conflict since Alear could obviously recognize her once she was demasked since they don't know anybody else looking like that.
Ok so 1) this is a set up for Veyle and Alear becoming friends but I do think it was a bit rushed and needing polishing.
2)I really like how people uses one of Alear's dialogue to point at the game being dumb " No, it can't be. But... that's the bandage I used to dress her wound".
Guess what ? It's a localization thing.
Original text is this :
別人?でも、あの包帯は私が巻いたものです。
あれは一体・
" A different person ? But it's the bandage I putted on her. What in the world is that ?"
... in japanese, 別人/betsujin means "a different person, another person, someone else" since it's composed of 別/betsu meaning different, separate and 人/hito meaning a person. This sentence was supposed to imply that despite seeing the same appearance, Alear didn't recongnized Veyle due to how different she was almost as if they were different people, I guess a hint for the whole Veyle having a second personality due to a spell thing. This means Alear was disturbed because on one side this girl looked like Veyle but her personality was too different, hence them looking at her feet to check on the bandage and asking themselves what on earth was happening.
Whether this changes a lot or not the whole thing is up to you, but to me, the japanese version of the text puts emphasis on Alear's denial but also their confusion due to Veyle not only acting different, but also speaking different and not only because her tone is different, but also because Veyle and her evil self have a slightly different way of speech (but I aren't knowledgable enough to explain that), except the difference are less marking then when Rafal switches to speaking as Nil or as himself. The English version tone down a lot this impression of total confusion from Alear. And also, gave room to nickpicking this. In short, it's because when the Veyle switches, they feel so much like different person that you can barely think they are even with the same appearance.
It's not like the first time a media tries this. In Elfen Lied, when Nyu and Lucy switches, the whole atmosphere is different and the characters can barely recognize them as the same person. In Pandora Hearts, despite sharing a body with him, when Jack controls Oz body, the atmosphere and the art are slightly different.
Tumblr media
Fire emblem however is a video game, they don't have much other way to convey emotions and shows things then using visual language and dialogue. I do think it could have been used more efficiently in Engage's case, but it's clearly what was striven for.
I just felt the need to mention it. I do think, they could have emphasized more Alear being in a denial and that the betrayal from Veyle woudl have probably impacted much more the player if Veyle and Alear got more time to spend together to tease their friendship/siblinghood a bit more, but imo the manga is probably gonna solve this problem.

I have an AU story idea for Fire Emblem Engage for Dialear fans if they want it. I'm too busy writing Those Scheming Matchmakers, The Emblems than to add another project to my list.
Alear was about to be the next biggest Idol, but that all changes when the record company she was about to sign with had cut a deal with a different band who called themselves Veyle and The Four Hounds (I couldn't resist) and had thrown her out of their office. When she gets the news, she decides to go to a bar and drink her sorrows away. However, when she gets to this bar, they have a band playing called The Royals of Elyos. Alear hasn't ever heard of them, but she is definitely captivated by the lead singer's voice and looks.
When Alear meets the lead singer, Diamant, sparks fly and also the owner of the bar she walked into which needs money to stay afloat. Diamant has been hurt in the past and very hesitant about growing relationship with Alear. Secrets start to spill when their has been a competition announced for the same record company that had thrown Alear out.
Can Alear and Diamant handle the heat and the spilling of the secrets that will lead them to stardom? Can they be honest with themselves and each other about their feelings?
Help yourself, but let me know because I want to read it.

20 records I enjoyed very much in 2020
EDDINGTON AGAIN - Damani6 Soul/pop; the hook from the chorus in "!ndica" was stuck in my head for weeks. AUSTRA - Hirudin Synth/pop; I actually didn't like this record very much when I first heard it, but it grew on me immensely. I've been a fan of Austra forever and it's great to hear her expand her sonic palette. TYLER CHILDERS - Long Violent History Appalachin country/folk/bluegrass; I remain steadfastly ignorant of Tyler's standard pop/country material, but this EP of (mostly) instrumental fiddle music is fantastic, even without the social commentary context that elevates it even further. CINDER WELL - No Summer Irish/PNW dark folk; eternally grateful I got a chance to see this material performed live last fall. CRYSTAL GEOMETRY - Senestre Hard techno/industrial; I rarely expect a full-length album in this genre to be so good, but CG delivers. DEAD LORD - Surrender Straight-up Thin Lizzy worship; it doesn't make sense, but this band is way better than they have any right to be. MAENAD VEYL - Reassessment Dark techno/industrial; emotionally complex and satisfying in a way that most techno is not. MAJESTOLUXE - Secondary Sanctions Synth/industrial; heavy, dark, and brooding in the best possible way. MORWAN - Zola-Zemlya Slavic post-punk; this is what I always hoped Molchat Doma would sound like. HATARI - Neyslutrans Icelandic industrial; honestly, the full album is kind of a mess overall, but the good songs are GREAT. HOUSE OF HARM - Vicious Pastimes New romantic/synth; total goth comfort food with hooks for days. GWENIFER RAYMOND - Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain Welsh goth does American Primitive solo guitar ala John Fahey. Her first album was superb, but she shows far more range on this one, working solely with her own original material. SANGRE DE MUERDAGO - Xuntas Galician folk; a new Sangre de Muerdago album is pretty much guaranteed to make my year-end list. SAULT - Rise / Black Is Soul/pop/everything; the two definitive albums of 2020. SEVDALIZA - Shabrang Pop/experimental; this record goes places. Also, some of the more inventive use of autotune I've heard in a long while. SIXTH JUNE - Trust Synth/goth/pop; my spouse asks "Is this Enya?" every time I put this on and I consider that to be extremely high praise. STATUES - Holocene Norrland indierock. There were a few other quality indie/noiserock releases this year (Bully, Spunsugar, Radula), but my friends Statues earn top status. UNCONSCIOUS - Regnum Novum Techno/EBM/industrial; much like the Maenad Veyl record, there's an emotional depth here that I find absent in other similar works. VEDAN KOLOD - Wild Games Russian folk; the cover art got my attention and then the actual music blew me away. Vedan Kolod's brooding dark folk is precisely my thing. ZALIVA-D - Immorality Mutant techno from Beijing; there is nothing else in the world that sounds like Zaliva-D and I love it.

The concept of Occulture(Οccult+Culture) was used within the industrial music scene of the late twentieth century, and was coined by one of its central figures, the musician and occultist Genesis P-Orridge. So,this noisetape focuses on dark, deep, disturbing, ritualistic industrial techno with some chanting voices, tribal rhythms and noisy ambient.
Tracklist: 1.L A N D – Seconds [Important Records] 2.SPK – Invocation(To Secular Heresies)[The Grey Area] 3.Pact Infernal – Meditations [Horo] 4.Ourea – From Chaos Came Erebus [Horo] 5.Mai Mai Mai – Mustais [Not Not Fun] 6.Blakk Harbor – Sacred Grounds [Ant-Zen] 7.UVB76 – Qiankun Tu [Teenage Menopause] 8.Ehohroma – Relief [To Pikap Records] 9.Ivan Logos – Khoomei [m_division] 10.Oake – Sehtohree Diin Chromtas Vehns [Downwards Records] 11.Demdike Stare – Bardo Thodol [Modern Love] 12.Maenad Veyl – Onto Duat [Bedouin Records] 13.Northern Structures – Skagerrak [Sonic Groove] 14.Lucy – Dissonance Emancipation [Stroboscopic Artefacts] 15.Tsuzing – King Of Hosts [L.I.E.S] 16.Samuel Kerridge – Surrender to The Void [Blueprint Records] 17.ANFS – Nation [Kafta] 18.Michael Wells – Afar [Voluntas Music] 19.Nastika – Sati [Horo] 20.Pessimist – Mist [Osiris Music] 21.Nastika – Yajna [Horo] 22.SamKDC – False Awakening [Horo] 23.Restive Plaggona – Would it Hurt to Die [Several Minor Promises]

2019 Music Recommendations
2019. Another stellar year! There was so much excitement this year to be found musically. First off some surprises from some older acts who haven’t released material in decades. Both Heavy Water Factory and Numb had terrific returns to form with new full lengths this year and not surprisingly after the long slumbers - still showcased modern sounds and futuristic ideas. Some terrific re-issues this year from the likes of Dive, Force Dimension and Robotiko Rejekto all from the awesome Mecanica label. If you missed them the first go-around seek them out – those are all important artifacts in the industrial-ebm history. Oh yeah, they also re-issued Acid Horse and Pailhead records this year too!  Synth-pop and synth wave made a huge impact again this year with remarkable releases from Hatchie (favorite record of the year), Silent Em, Luminance, Iris, Body of Light, Minuit Machine, Wingtips, Replicant and others. Post-punk seemed to be the buzz phrase this year with a lot of attention on it. Many great records from the likes of Foreign Resort, Present Moment, Ritual Howls, Veil of Light and Years of Denial. Retro sounding EBM still caught my attention with outstanding releases from Klack, Randolph & Mortimer and Unconscious. Likewise, there was so much contemporary energy surging in the newer techno-ebm realm with punchy releases from Crystal Geometry, Maedon, Kontravoid, Raffaele Attanasio, Rhys Fulber, Ansome and so many others. This isn’t a top 10, top 25 or even a top 100. Instead, it’s an A-Z recommendation list encompassing many genres as those lines are getting more and more blurred.  The majority of what I listen to is electronic based and that runs a whole gamut of sub-genres from techno-ebm, to synth-pop to whatever. A good tune is a good tune, regardless of genre. For each release I’ve listed a format (the one I purchased the release in). If there’s not a format listed - it’s usually digital. My preferred format is vinyl, but if you can’t find it on vinyl it’s likely available digitally as well. RE stands for re-issue by the way.
There’s a ton of new pioneering music out there for sure waiting to be discovered and it’s the “what’s next” that keeps me a motivated music fan. There’s never a dull moment in speaking, writing, DJ'ing or promoting new music, so I’ll keep doing it and hopefully be a guide for you all ;).
HIGHLY encourage you to get out there and seek out new music; Visit the record stores, go hear a new DJ, fire up Spotify or another streaming service, check out some new music via podcast, DJ mixes, label sites, online retailers, Facebook, BANDCAMP, BANDCAMP, BANDCAMP, etc. There’s a plethora of discoveries to be found out there. If you do the work, you’ll be rewarded ;)   Speaking of Spotify – I made a playlist this year featuring plenty of the bands on my list. There’s at least a track or more from the artist who have a presence on Spotify. Here’s the link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZxvyspTQAiizVe2WN43Fr?si=jsLN6-DiS5WQerWSRbb9Fg
As in years past I’m sure I missed a few things, ignored the hype on certain releases or just plain forgotten something. If it needs mention and I overlooked it - I may do an addendum in the next week or so. Anyways, got your notepaper and plenty of beverages ready? Don’t be a TL:DR (Too Long: Didn’t Read) fool. Read up. Enjoy the music of 2019!
Onwards with the list!!! :D
