An encounter during one of my consults this morning with a mother and daughter (who looked about 4 years old):

Owner: "If you don't mind, my daughter has a question for you, she's been wanting to ask it all week"

Me: "Sure, what is it?"

4 year old, dead serious: "Do cats have ankles?"

I kinda hate when vet doctors ask me time and time again if I want to go through with tests and procedures and stuff BECAUSE OF THE COST.

Like. I called to have news of my cat. All I care about is her health. Don't ask me if I'm okay with that 100€ test. It's just money. I'll find the money.

What I hate is the implication that so many people will refuse to give care to their pet because it's too much money on 'just a pet'. Like. No.

She's my family. She's the love of my life. She is the most important thing in my life. She's my responsibility. I signed a contract when I adopted her, to assure she'll always be fed and comfortable, to care for her in sickness and health. Yes, it includes paying for a several thousand euros surgery if it means she'll be okay.

I'll find the money. Even if I have to take a loan, or go back to work, I'll find the money to give my cat the best care I can give her.

Don't think of me as someone who'd abandon their family because it's too much money. I'm never going to do that.

Introducing my temporary new additions: two as-yet-unnamed kittens who were abandoned at my clinic yesterday. We think they're a few days old and are so far doing very well being hand-reared. I, on the other hand, have accepted that I'm going to need to keep a lot more coffee in the house if I'm going to keep up with the night feeds.

Im worried I'm not going to be accepted for January intakes because they CC'd some random person at a different site into the email to fill out the management forms. And I'm going to be pissed if I have to start the term after because my bosses are being dicks and not filling out the forms which take two seconds to do because they already filled them out previously for the other girl starting same time, only need to change my name at the top of it. Like working here is a joke.
