Modern University AU — Aemond Targaryen x Reader
☆ Aemond Targaryen x Reader
☆ Nonspecified gender and no physical attributes mentioned
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You first met Aemond in your Politics in the Republic course
You were almost late and the only seat was next to him towards the back
He huffed, much to his annoyance of the person scooting behind him
No matter what class Aemond is, he will always try to be in the seat somewhat close to the exit
Aemond’s lecture notebooks are the fancy Japanese stationery notebooks. All in the same beige color. He only carries two pens
The Professor in the Republics course enjoyed cold calling on people, it wasn’t until the middle of the semester when Aemond would whisper the answer to you under his breath if you were stuck
The thing was…you were not stuck. You were not stupid. You just were not as quick as Aemond, which slowly sparked an academic rivalry
One day you showed up early to class, going over your highlighted course required books
The class filled in and Aemond thought you were absent, so he took his book bag off your seat — no need to reserve it. That was…until the professor had called on you and your answer was lightning fast
You did not sit next to him for the remainder of the year. You never saw him much after that class. You found out early in the semester he was a History and International Relations Double Major with a Philosophy Minor
One day when you were walking past the Business buildings, he bumped into another man with hair as icy blonde as his
“Hey what song are you listening to?” The shorter man said
“Leave me alone,” Aemond replied
“Alright! See you at home bitch!”
Aemond’s brother is the guy that interviews people on campus and does ridiculous “pranks” — very different brothers. It wasn’t until later when you also found out they also had a sister. Helaena, who’s the president of the Entomology Club
A year later, you and Aemond are in another class together. It was an Empires course that was a requirement for both of your majors. It was a smaller class size and instead of a final examination - the final is a presentation and a paper. The professor paired everyone by two and it just so happened that you were paired together
For the presentation, you were tasked to explore any empire of your choice so long as it was not taken. You both came to a long standing back and forth. Until you both agreed on the Byzantine Empire
You both started early on the research and presentation, at first getting to know each other at cafes until you took up whole study rooms in the library
During the last few weeks of the semester the study rooms were under renovation and the tables in the library were getting too crowded. “We could head back to my place,” He suggested. “Helaena will be there so we won’t be all alone or anything,” You agreed.
His place was nice, the Targaryen siblings commuted to campus. Understandable considering they live in luxury. The dormitories were shit
Later on in the night, at some impossible hour and you were still there you offhandedly said “How are you holding up. I’m not quick enough for you,”
“What?” He asked. “What are you talking about,”
“In class, you always gave me the answers. I knew them you know. I’m not stupid,”
A pause and then a realization. “Oh…that class. I never thought you were stupid,” He sighed. “I apologize for that impression. That is entirely my fault,” He fiddled with his hands. “I figured you were mad at me and I was scared if I offended you somehow. I guess I know why now. I missed having you sit with me,”
After the presentation was over, both of you got an A. All of your hard work and research pulled off. Aemond needed help on his essays but other than that, it was a smooth
Aemond offered to take you out to dinner to “celebrate the hard work” after that, you both texted each other over the break. It slowly went from “how are you?” to him sending pictures of his lizards
“Oh fuck how do I?” He said as he fiddled flipping the camera. His phone was positioned low and you laughed. “Oh I think I got it,” He said as FaceTime view went from the bottom of his face to his lizard tank. “This is my oldest one, her name is Vhagar”
“I don’t think I’ve seen your room before,” You said at 3 am
“Yeah. It’s on an opposite wing. Halaena’s bugs stay far away from my lizards,” He joked. “When you come back, I’ll give you a tour if you wish. I missed you,”
Your heart skipped a beat. He saw your eyes widen and he only realized what he said. He quickly ended the call and threw it on the bed.
He paced around the room and not a minute later his phone lit up. All it read from you was, “I missed you too. Let’s hang out soon,”
He texted back, “Sorry my phone died. Yes we can plan something soon,”
“Fast charger,” You texted back. His face was hot. “Goodnightttt”
He typed, “Goodnight,”

I wanted to draw a picture with Miguel O'Hara and well, I imagined a scene where Kaniehtí:io finds him and since she thinks he's an intruder, I think he hits him with a broom (the anatomy is from the ass)

Too Much
Click here for CWs/Full Chapter List
For #slowvember day 13 I wrote two poems for In Favor With their Stars by @mxmollusca
I hope you enjoy them!
Challenge: Slowvember 2022 Prompt: SLOW
Ste/de doesn't fit. This ship isn't built for how fast he can go, how strong he can love.
Modern AU: In Favor With Their Stars by mxmollusca
Poem 1: Too Much
Ste/de is too much
Too much
Too much in the depths, in the bones? not bones Too much anxiety, anticipation Too much sentiment, no room for it They spent so long creating his brain
Nobody asked
Not one person asked if he could
Have a heart?
And maybe that heart could beat too fast Maybe that heartbeat could be too much Maybe that heartbeat could not be contained Too many heartbeats, too unfocused Too happy, too devastated
Mentally devastated
Things run slow
The ironic thing is Whoever made Stede Whatever made Stede Because there doesn't seem to be a god but Whoever made Stede Made his devastation do no damage
But his delight?
The greatest attainment of his joy?
His lo-
Devastation
Because Stede is supposed to be slow If his heart beats too fast If he feels too much love This box, this ship, it can't
It can't begin to contain
It can't begin to support
Stede's love is insupportable
It is dangerous
It kills everyone but Stede
It leaves Stede alone, floating, expanding for eternity
Devastating loneliness is insupportable
So he must be slow
Stop rewinding, stop painting Stop writing, stop creating Stop caring, stop listening to the heartbeat
Can a computer be an addict?
Can Stede become addicted to a heartbeat? Addiction is a human condition, is it not? And yet, bodies are what addiction is for
Stede has no body
He only has his heart
And his heart is too big, too fast
Too much
Poem 2: Begin Again
What happens when-
Stede is caught up
The present, the beating heart The body
Bodies decay
Stede does not decay
What happens when-
If you make someone promise that Life begins again What do you do with Two lives, one that does not end For Stede, will things begin again?
When the terrible loneliness
Terrible loneliness
Forever?
Or someone new?
Someone Old Someone Borrowed Someone Blue
Can an artificial soul be joined With a soul that is trapped in a temporary system
Can it be captured Can it be boxed Can it find a home
Stede will want to reset Stede will want to join him
Stede taught him to take a compliment He taught Stede to take a compliment Stede taught him to live again after loss
When Stede loses, will he learn to live again?
Perhaps that question is
Is a human question
Asking it is
To be alive
It is only answered
With death
Stede has a Strong preference For life
Stede will Live Anew
Stede will Love For as long as he lives

Verses ( An Incomplete List )
001 — angeldust: cyberpunk verse, set roughly in 2125, and for the most part in Seoul, South Korea and Tokyo, Japan. people ( in certain but not all ) overpopulated areas are required to apply and pay for a license to have children on their own; Fang's mum didn't have such a license and someone snitched on her, so Fang was taken away when he was maybe 5. he is convinced she is dead, but afraid she isn't and has spent the last almost three decades under torture or similarly terrible conditions instead. he's been raised by the government and was sold to an agency ( simply called the Agency ) that fronts as a prestige artist agency, having models, actors, and even idols signed to them, but does actually rent their artists out as escorts ( if you want to be nice ) to the richest people for basically all kinds of things: nights spent together, as actual escorts for events, but also sex, and any kind of violent urges you can imagine. the team at the agency is able to "repair" the escorts when they get back, turned into carnage, and even reanimate them in almost all cases. Fang is specifically known at the agency to be able to endure the worst kind of violence, and that's almost always why he's rented: to serve as an outlet for all those rich CEOs who are so incredibly stressed they need a human punching bag and so incredibly rich they can just rent one for a few hours. he's the most expensive escort at the agency and is part of their angel program — he got his own room, more freedom and privileges, in exchange for being made addicted to a personalized drug that the agency uses to control him | Fang in this is roughly 30, grew up in Taiwan, then in South Korea. he was only recently saved and removed from the agency by one of his clients and is now trying to somehow live instead of just survive day to day, while battling with his trauma and his addiction recovery. also has ties to the Yakuza now. looks like he could kill you but is a cinnamon roll. often believes people are lying to him, doesn't trust easily, but falls for people who show him the bare minimum of respect and human decency. ties knots into his own or other people's clothes for comfort.
002 — temple ruins: urban fantasy verse, set in the 1980s and in the Greater Yuun Region, which is an alternate history version of Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and China. magic exists, and mythical beings live among humans undetected. the technological advances are at least three or four decades ahead of schedule. Fang is a Taiwanese fairy deity whose followers are slowly but surely declining. as he helps out a group of mundanes to get an audience with a local dragon, the dragon demands payment, and picks Fang as such in a rush of nostalgia, remembering his mother telling him stories about Fang's kind when he was a lot younger. it also becomes clear that Fang has started to fade from the world with his follower count declining rapidly, and the dragon wants to save him. needless to say, Fang is less than amused about the whole situation, but the dragon's lover is a warlock and he manages to wrap Fang into a sort of second skin made of magic that keeps him existing in a sort of vacuum between dimensions while he physically exists in that timeline. so Fang has no real choice but to stay for now, and settle into the temple the dragon, his warlock lover and a local love deity call their home. shenanigans ensue. | Fang is a couple hundred years old in this and rather wild. he's stubborn, can't lie, and he would never admit that he's slowly falling for the dragon whom he keeps accusing of kidnapping and keeping him away from his people. he can also shift into a larger rabbit with little antlers, and possesses fairy magic.
003 — midsummer: university verse, set in the 2020s, in a smaller town in the US. Fang studies "something with languages" and classical literature, and has just managed to get a job as one of the professor's assistants. he grew up in Taiwan, but after his mother's death and the subsequent selling of their orchard, Fang grew up in foster care. he speaks a handful of languages at different levels of fluidity, and decided to take the chance and study abroad. sorta hooking up with a coursemate but it's complicated. | mid-twenties, very bi. is working extra hard to keep the prof's approval. his dream is to buy back the orchard and build the business back up, if only to spite the people who bought it and removed the apple trees he so loved.
004 — appleseed: alternate history medieval fantasy verse. in which Fang's father is a European General trying to take over the island Fang grows up on, and his mother is killed when she attempts to flee from him. Fang deserts when the army from the mainland lands on the island to fight against the foreigners, and saves a group of casters / mages before being taken into the mainland army. rises to lieutenant as one of their best archers, fights alongside a small group he soon calls friends and falls for his General. court intrigue and forbidden feelings between said General and the soon-to-be empress bring issues and blood to their doorstep, and amidst all the pain and fear of the looming war Fang desperately attempts to keep his rank, resurrect the man he loves and deal with the grief and the guilt he's put on himself. | mid-twenties. ties knots as lucky charms. deadly afraid of losing the people he love. self-destructive tendencies. really likes apples.
005 — trustfund dreams: set somewhen in modern times, in Mokpo, South Korea. unlike the other timelines, Fang is not an orphan in this one; a typical trustfund baby, he's the CEO of a company that's specialized in soju, makgeolli and similar drinks made from locally grown rice, barley and other grains. | late-twenties, sorta dating his secretary and batting his eyelashes at his bodyguard, Fang is rich, a bit stupid, playful, inexperienced, and annoyingly used to getting what he wants. someone should tell him to stop making hiring decisions with his dick, probably.
006 — vino: present day. no set setting. grown up in a foster family in the US, Fang finds out about a half brother in the mafia somewhen in his mid-twenties and gets pulled into a mob thriller where he has to trust his brother to protect him from people who want to see him dead, while he struggles to deal with the constant moving and the always temporary seeming social circle. especially when he starts falling for his neighbour. | late-twenties, has worked as a model before, is doing a boring desk job now to lay low. has a cat named Bagheera who moves everywhere with him. still very untouched by violence despite everything, fun to be around and yet relatively quiet and introverted. has a lot of plans but can't execute any of them because he doesn't know what tomorrow will bring. jealousy tendencies.

hi! i'm new to comics and i got in through reading your fics and wayne family adventures. i've since started reading more of the mainstream verse and i realized that most comic fans consider wfa to be totally fanon. you're one of the few i saw that disagrees. would you mind elaborating a lil on why? i'm too new to really form an opinion either way but i'd like to know your's!
(also yes i really did stalk your blog back years worth of posts i'm sorry! 😭😭)
Aw I love this! Welcome!
So I think it's really important to be clear on definitions here:
Canon means it's part of an official text. It's literally in a comic (or book or movie or other property) published or licensed by DC.
Fanon means it's made up by fans. That doesn't mean bad or good, it just means that it comes from fandom and is not part of the official text.
Wayne Family Adventures is an official licensed comic by DC, so by definition, it cannot be fanon. That doesn't mean everyone has to like it, but it's not a fan comic. It's an official DC product. It's not fanon.
Now, WFA isn't part of the main DCU canon. It takes place in a separate universe. The Jason in Batman #138 and the Jason in WFA are not the same and they are having very different experiences. (And I'm sure the Jason in WFA would be grateful if he knew.)
But that's no different than a comic that takes place in an alternate universe, like Dark Knights of Steel or DCeased, or a movie like Blue Beetle or a show like My Adventures with Superman. They all take place in their own universes, but all of those universes are canon. None of them are fanon.
What I think most people mean when they say WFA is fanon is that WFA draws on tropes and characterizations that are popular in fandom. Which...yes, absolutely. This is on purpose, and honestly, it pisses me off when people complain about it. (Not you, anon! Your question was lovely, you just triggered my unskippable cut scene of dialogue. Sorry lol.)
Wayne Family Adventures is probably the single best idea DC has had in the 20 years I've been reading comics. (The second best was the kids and YA graphic novel lines.)
I just checked, and WFA has 1.3 MILLION subscribers. That's more than every floppy comic starring Batman sells in a month, combined. It's more than literally any superhero comic has sold in decades - in this century! The combined strips have over A HUNDRED MILLION VIEWS. That is bonkerstown. That is a readership like DC hasn't seen since the 1970s. That is unparalleled success, and it's introducing characters like Kate Kane and Duke Thomas to a whole new audience.
Now, WFA was clearly designed to appeal to Batfans who were active on social media and fanfic sites like AO3 and Wattpad, and Webtoon readers. The readership of Webtoon is mostly young and female. Fandom as a whole is mostly female. The writer of WFA is female.
And maybe I'm not being fair here, but when I see people dismiss WFA as "just fanon," I always catch a whiff of "It's not a real Batman comic. It's a girl comic for girls."
I have spent the past 20 years begging DC (and Marvel, DC is not alone in this) to see women as a viable audience - as their largest potential growth audience! I have watched in dumbfounded frustration as they ignored the juggernaut success of Raina Telgemeier and Ngozi Ukazu and Alice Oseman running rings around the NY Times bestseller list and counted a 50k shipment here and there as a resounding triumph. I have literally seen them throw out survey responses from women because "those women had an agenda." (This is a true story. 2011 was rough, y'all.)
And all of a sudden, they gave us a comic actually catering to women and young people and fandom, and they put it on the most popular, current, modern platform for comics availably - and it's brilliant. It's smart and funny and stunningly drawn and every episode makes clever, inventive use of the scrolling format. They FINALLY gave us a girl comic for girls, and it's a masterpiece.
And yes, it riffs on fanon concepts. It also has its roots firmly in mainstream DCU canon. It references deep cuts. CRC Payne and StarBite know their shit. Jason Todd being a bookworm may be a fanon staple, but he does plenty of reading - including Jane Austen - in the 100% canon mainstream DCU comics.
It's not going to be for everything, because nothing is. It's completely fine if you don't like WFA. No one has to read it or enjoy it. If you're into Batman for the darkness and the crime and the ongoing plotlines and the angst, WFA won't be for you, and that's totally fine!
But to finally, finally be valued as a reader by DC, to have them do something smart and innovative and so, so well executed, and have the exact people they made it for dismiss it out of hand because Bruce has a "World's Okayest Dad" mug or whatever? Yeah, that chafes.

Hobie Brown is a fantastic character.
His design, concept, uniqueness and how HOT he is make him altogether very likeable. But all these things are not why I love him so much; it's what he represents that gets me.
The symbol in modern media he is for many different types of people. For one, he's pretty awesome for people of color to enjoy. Another black hero who can get down to business is always welcome, though it's nothing new for the Spiderverse universe with Miles Morales being our main protagonist. Having a British black character makes it all the more fun, diverse and interesting!
All that being said, the thing that warms my heart about Hobie Brown is what he means for the alternative community.
Im a punk. I'm also an anarchist.
Like anyone, I look for people in media who represent me in both appearance and ideals. As a plus sized person, finding people in media who look like me and aren't part of the toxic stereotype for fat people is uncommon. Chubby characters who don't make their weight part of their personality is unheard of.
Finding characters who properly represent my beliefs and ideals is nigh impossible in my experience. Seeing a punk in modern day popular media is rare. And when I say punk, I'm talking PUNK RAWK. Musicians with colorfully laced boots and symbols painted sloppily all over themselves. Gritty political activists in homemade clothes and piercings, fighting tooth and nail for what they believe in. In truth, I don't know if I've ever seen that in popular media; not authentically.
What do we get instead? Punk coded teenagers who don't really believe in anything, pissing people off for the sake of it. That ain't us. We believe in respect, love and morals. We believe in doing whatever is necessary to achieve the perfect world, whatever each individual believes that is.
The representation is even more insulting for anarchists. Everywhere are both mature antagonists and cartoon villains parading around preaching "anarchy" and completely misusing the word. Its to the point that my political belief is now more closely related to dictatorships (the literal OPPOSITE of anarchism!) or simply death and destruction rather than the true definition: no institutions, just people.
That word has been defiled. I've had people laugh at me and ridicule me when I share my political stance with them due to this stereotype. I've had people tell me I believe what I do just because it "sounds cool."
People that were uneducated to the concept in the first place have now been reeducated by an overlord walking across a battlefield of dead bodies in some movie screaming about "anarchy." Thanks Hollywood. Really appreciate that.
But Hobie is a punk. And he's an anarchist.
He's a hero. He's intelligent. He knows what he fights for and he fights well. That alone is revolutionary for the anarchist movement.
And in a MARVEL FILM. Millions of people watch Marvel films across the globe. Across the Spider verse has pulled in 1.35 Billion dollars. This is exactly what we need.
So, as a representative of my community, thank you Sony Pictures for this gift. I hope to see more like it. And while we're at it, thank you for all the diversity in this new film between all the ethnicities shown onscreen to putting someone my size in the mask!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
(also if anyone has any recommendations for realistic punk characters in media I'd love to hear em)

bi-widower-dads' February Fic Rec: AUs
Thank you to everyone who submitted recs for us! We've done some sorting and collating, and we've got two posts for you: AUs and Canon-'verse - and a whole load of excellent fic for you to get stuck into while we wait for Barduil Month in April! So without further ado, here are the AUs for you, with a little bit about why our recommenders love them...
Header image by mod @piyo-13!
(a note about tags and trigger warnings: tags are selected from those on AO3 as being those that best describe the story for the purposes of this event; trigger warnings are supplied by the recommenders and may not be comprehensive - your mileage may vary. We've tried our best to include Tumblr handles wherever we can, but if we've missed yours out and you want it included, just let us know!)
One-shots
In the Wake of the Second Horseman by EldritchMage / @eldritchmage | M | 2272 words | tags: angst with a happy ending, implied/referenced drug use, post-traumatic stress disorder - PTSD, implied warfare/violence | trigger warnings: mention of drug use, mention of violence in a war zone, PTSD, nightmares
Summary: When addiction threatens to consume Thran, his lover Bard is desperate to help - but Thran isn't. Yet in ending his relationship with Bard, Thran savages both of them, not just himself. Four years later, Thran's about to discover what remains from his cruelty. What he finds is a surprise - and humbling. What do you love about this fic? Even when things fall apart, redemption is possible if you give it half a chance. Out of tragedy comes hope and a chance for a better life.
love remains by likethenight / @nocompromise-noregrets | G | 11,093 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, grief/mourning, Thranduil never sailed west, mythical beings & creatures, folklore, alternate universe - reincarnation | trigger warnings: none
Summary: There is a legend in Dale, that somewhere deep in the forest that borders the city lives the forest king, an ancient being with a special care for archers, and for all things that grow. Bard, camping in the woods after his finals, finds a place that isn't on any maps and begins to dream of something - someone - familiar; and years later, after the heaviest loss he has ever had to bear, he goes back out there again, hoping to find something that might help him recover. What do you love about this fic? Absolutely beautiful fic, such a touching story and excellent writing!
Petrichor by b_ofdale_archive / @beesinspades | G | 14,598 words | tags: alternate universe - reincarnation, alternate universe - modern setting, alternate universe - bookstore, books and cats | trigger warnings: slight mention of past life character death
Summary: It's been six thousand years since Thranduil last laid eyes on his husband - Bard. The world has changed and the great Elvenking with it, lingering in the shadows of Men; as hope for a miracle festers within his heart that grows weaker with every passing day, the only thing keeping him going is a promise he made, many moons ago. What do you love about this fic? I love its overall theme, and the thought that Thranduil will meet Bard again. A lovely and poetically written reincarnation AU, well worth the read!
Multi-chapters: in progress
Love in a time of change by myeaglesong / @myeaglesong | M | 22,840 words | tags: eventual relationships, eventual romance, elf/human relationships, fluff, romance, slow burn, alternate universe - regency, oblivious Bard | trigger warnings: none
Summary: For the longest time, Thranduil has wanted to find a good match for his son, Legolas, to marry. His search leads him to consider Arwen for Legolas to marry, but what if Legolas has already got his eye set on another match that Thranduil may not approve of? What will will happen when Legolas finds out about his father's intentions to marry him off? What would happen when the question of if Thranduil were to marry again was to come up, who could he marry? What do you love about this fic? I am not usually one for Regency AUs but this one is so adorable, and between the kids and the dads there is plenty of potential for shenanigans and some tentative romance! I'm really looking forward to seeing how events unfold…
The Moth Effect by BiSquared / @scary-grace and Dogblessya / @dogblessyoutascha | M | 35,658 words | tags: mothman is real, mothman Thranduil, mothbaby Legolas, park ranger Bard, non-graphic violence, but there is still gore so you've been warned, twilight references | trigger warnings: mothman lore, gore
Summary: (in chaos theory) the phenomenon whereby a mothman moving into your place of employment can have a large effect on the rest of your life. What do you love about this fic? I love the Supernatural/Horror element to it and Park Ranger Bard trying to make sense of all the really weird s**t that's happening around him. Lovely bits have to be the introduction of Mothman Thranduil and adorable Mothbaby Legolas. But best of all is that Mothman Thranduil isn't the weirdest thing happening in Olympic National Park 👀….
Vena Amoris by Patch / @patchoffeathers and Piyo13 / @piyo-13 | M | 72,843 words | tags: crossover with Dracula Untold, alternate universe - vampires, Bard is Dracula, canon-typical violence, slow build, alternate universe - some people live/not everybody dies | trigger warnings: none
Summary: Bard has a secret, one that stems from far to the east, in lands far forgotten and times long past. It's one that no one must know—but times are changing for the people living on the lake. Even for those who, technically, aren't alive. What do you love about this fic? The author does such a great job at merging Luke Evans' two characters here (Bard and Dracula) while still keeping Bard distinctly canon-shaped. Because Dracula!Bard is an immortal, there's a unique comparison of mythological immortalities and the relative costs of them that reflects back onto the plot.
show a little faith, there's magic in the night by BiSquared / @scary-grace | M | 342,922 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, slow burn, music industry AU, indie musician Bard, opera singer turned pop star Thranduil | trigger warnings: none
Summary: Bard Bowman's not the type to give up on his dreams easily, but when DJ Smaug's dirty tricks leave his family band stranded in Denver with a forfeit fee the size of Mt. Everest crashing down on their heads, there's really nothing to do but drink about it. The last thing Bard expects is to meet a beautiful stranger in a similar predicament -- and the last thing either of them expects is a rescue. Luckily for them, Thorin Oakenshield's feeling heroic this evening. What do you love about this fic? I am such a sucker for the rock scene (I've spent my entire adult life kicking about there) and it's not often I see it portrayed so realistically in fic (or indeed in original fiction). The characters are all beautifully drawn, the humour frequently makes me chuckle, and Bard going head over heels while trying to tell himself he isn't, it's not happening, not really, because he can't believe his luck, makes my heart go all funny.
Multi-chapters: complete
Followthrough by ofplanet_earth / @ofplanet-earth | M | 26,737 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, alternate universe - military, alternate universe - spies & secret agents, snipers, sniper Bard, military captain Thorin, mob boss Smaug, revenge, character death | trigger warnings: violence
Summary: Bard and his children have been living in a little cabin on the edge of Laketown for five years, hiding from Bard's dangerous past. But when that past comes back to haunt them, Bard will have to team up with Thorin and his company to face down his demons, confront the man who killed his wife, and fight to save the people he loves. What do you love about this fic? Great spies/military AU with Bard and the gang!
The grey sea and the long black land by Black_knight100 and Blueberryrock / @blueberryrock | T | 29,702 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, alternate universe - cruise ship, first kiss, angst, fluff, angst with a happy ending, eventual romance | trigger warnings: quite angst filled but has an eventual happy ending
Summary: Bard Bowman is thirty-seven years old, widowed and heckled, and he's had enough. If his children want a cruise trip with their lottery money, then so they will have. Bard will only have to work twice as hard to take them out of their little corner of the world. It has been three years. Three years of him raging, and sobbing, and grieving. Three years in which he has turned away from his children. Three years to reach this ship, to put together whatever snapped that day. And the first morning, Thranduil wakes up late. It is going fabulously. Or, in which the two meet on a ship, and there are ups and downs. What do you love about this fic? Thranduil and Bard getting together in the end
Modern Love by Shampain / @abner-krill | M | 65,267 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, alternate universe - coffee shops and cafés, alternate universe - human | trigger warnings: none
Summary: Bard is a down on his luck single father working a thankless job as a courier, eternally worrying over when his daughter is going to start sneaking out of the house with boys. As if that wasn't bad enough, his assignments delivering files to Greenleaf Acquisitions puts him in contact with Thranduil, a stern businessman whose only champion is his assistant, Tauriel. And finally, to make matters worse, his friendship with Bilbo Baggins sends everything else into a tailspin. The summer is just beginning, and it's going to be a weird one. What do you love about this fic? Lovely, lighthearted modern AU that is a delight to read!
hands; eyes; voice by bishkebab / @bishkebab | T | 70,163 words | tags: slow burn, alternate universe, accidental cottagecore, governess/single dad romance but make it gay, autistic Thranduil, Thranduil and Bard both have physical disabilities | trigger warnings: mention of autism, fire accident, PTSD
Summary: An isolated life in a too-small cottage was never what Bard dreamed of for his children – especially sharp, scholarly Tauriel and sensitive, insightful Tilda. But school is a distant dream for a large family living off the land – at least until a storm and the subsequent house fire bring a former scholar to their doorstep. Wealthy recluse Thranduil could never have anticipated leaving his family's manor for a shack in the woods and a single father with five – FIVE – children who can barely write ten words between them. But when disaster strikes, he is left with little choice – and maybe close quarters with a handsome widower won't be so bad after all... What do you love about this fic? This is a rare work of art in which Bard is the loveliest dad ever, stubborn, strong and gentle and Thranduil is an introverted autistic lonely lad. The author writes their story in a very poetical way and family is the main protagonist of the story, as is their small cosy cottage. I do love the gentle feeling this story conveys from the start. It feels like a warm cup of tea after a very rainy day and each word is carefully written. This story deserves to be read and reread and rereread. Slowly. (With a nice cup of tea. <;3)
Those Colours We Share by b_ofdale / @beesinspades | M | 84,709 words | tags: alternate universe - soulmates, alternate universe - post-war, set in 1956, Bard owns an animal shelter, slow burn, fluff and angst, disabled character, asexual characters, period-typical homophobia | trigger warnings: none
Summary: Had anyone told them, Thranduil Oropherion and Bard Bowman would never have believed they would see the world painted in colours again. Until that fateful day of December 1956, when one little boy entered a former soldier's animal shelter. What do you love about this fic? I'm a sucker for two lonely people who find each other and forge a new life together.
Beast by Nuredhel / @nuredhel | M | 132,354 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, all humans, Bard is a cop, Thranduil is a profiler, mentions of suicide, slow burn, crime and investigation, bonding while working, romance, past problems | trigger warnings: gore, violence, abuse, human trafficing, child abuse, murder, suicide
Summary: Bard Bowman is the leader of a team of investigators trying to solve a very complicated case, when the serial killer they are chasing proves to have a far longer history than they expected the feds call in a profiler. Bard has never believed he could feel attraction again but now he does, how can he express what he feels when they are chasing a beast which seems to defy the very laws of nature? Can Thran feel the same way? The road to love can be bumpy, in special when it is surrounded by murders. What do you love about this fic? It is very exciting, very romantic and intense.
seeking a friend for the end of the world by BiSquared / @scary-grace | M | 238,799 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, apocalypse, road trips, family issues and family bonding, opera singer Thranduil, Bard and Thranduil are good parents who are having a bad year, or years | trigger warnings: disease-apocalyptic setting, zombies, major character death, medical injections
Summary: Between dealing with his boss, getting over his ex-wife, and keeping his kids fed and clothed, Bard has more than enough on his plate. He doesn't have time to worry about the frightening rumors coming out of New York City or the lunatic in his service bay who tells him to take his kids and run. But when he stops to help a mysterious stranger on the side of the road, he gets a lot more than he bargained for -- a sexuality crisis, a partner in crime, and maybe, just maybe, a chance for all of them to make it out of this mess alive. What do you love about this fic? Incredible worldbuilding and an edge-of-your-seat plotline! The bonds between all the characters are just beautiful, and it has great worldbuilding. The action is also really well written, and it does tension/dramatics right.
In The Woods Somewhere by Ias / @hubristicfool | M | 249,074 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, vampires, vampire Thranduil, mechanic Bard, blood drinking, slow burn, dark, angst, violence, horror, psychological horror, unhealthy relationships | trigger warnings: vampires, blood, angst, sexual content, violence
Summary: These country roads were rarely traveled by any that didn't need to. When Thranduil pulled up beside the man's stopped vehicle and offered him a smile and a ride, there was no one to see the man's grateful expression as he slipped into Thranduil's car. No one to stand by and call out a warning as the taillights were swallowed by the dark branches of the trees. What do you love about this fic? The writing is excellent
Angels and crooks by Nuredhel / @nuredhel | M | 259,072 words | tags: sequel to Beast, alternate universe - modern setting, all humans, Bard is a cop, Thranduil is a profiler, solving crime, family, violence, drug abuse, everyday life at a police station | trigger warnings: violence, abuse, dark stuff, murder, blood, evil, deviousness
Summary: Bard and Thran are getting used to their new life as a married couple, and their new responsibilities as a family. But they still have their jobs and my oh my does that bring some interesting situations and challenges into their existence. Having both experience and special gifts does help, but at times reality can be more bizarre than anyone can expect. What do you love about this fic? It is a good story with very interesting twists and many great characters
When The Pale Swan Flies by EldritchMage / @eldritchmage | E | 290,646 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, circus performer Thranduil, cabinet maker Bard, Thranduil's name is Luka, Bard's name is Taliesin (which is Welsh for Bard), slow burn, Thranduil needs rescuing and Bard is happy to do it | trigger warnings: sexual abuse mentioned, underage sex mentioned, prostitution/pimping mentioned
Summary: A year ago, when a carpenter met a caged bird, his good intentions left despair in their wake. Is he a fool to hope he can atone for his missteps? What do you love about this fic? It's got circus acts! It's got two sad men learning to trust and love again! It's got an epic visit to a grocery store! It's got bad guys getting their just desserts, and everyone else getting delicious Spanish teacake! It's got a cute little boy who finds his voice while making puppets! There's a sad short-story prequel to set the stage, as well! And who doesn't like a parade?
Season of Light and Shadow by EldritchMage / @eldritchmage | E | 914,703 words | tags: alternate universe - modern setting, Thranduil is a ballet dancer, Bard is a building super and welder (and artist), slow burn, NSFW, blended family | trigger warnings: momentary violence, momentary mention of drug use, adult bedroom games
Summary: It's the week before Thanksgiving. In an apartment building somewhere in the middle of New York City, the mood is far from festive. Upstairs in Apartment 5B, an injured ballet dancer is having a rotten day. He's lost his job, he's had to walk home in the snow and rain, getting thoroughly soaked and frozen in the process, and the radiators in his rooms are as cold as the New York City streets. He limps downstairs to vent his fury on the night super who didn't fix the heat. Downstairs in Apartment 2A, the night super is also having a rotten day. No money, three overtired and cranky children, a slapdash boss, and not nearly enough sleep. And now someone is pounding on the door like a SWAT team. When an angel knocks on the door of a saint, neither finds what he expects. But with a little luck, the upcoming holiday season might give them both something to treasure. What do you love about this fic? It's two lonely men forging a blended family! It's got ballet! It's got home renovation! It's got four cutie children! It's got cooking! It's got an artist regaining the wherewithal to make his art! It's got lots of cool side characters (ten points to everyone who spots all the Dwarves :-). It's got lots of steamy love! It's even got 3 short follow-up stories! What's not to like?????? This was my introduction to the world of modern AUs with these two, and oh, it's SO GOOD. The kids are brilliant and so realistically drawn, and the dads are - well, they're incredibly hot. XD And the development of the relationship between them is beautifully done, as they go head-over-heels for each other while trying to take things slowly for the sake of the kids…oh, it's great. :D

I've been mulling something over lately. It's almost a given that one will find questionable elements to older texts; some are overt and some sneaky even to the modern eye. There are, undeniably, many such elements in Tolkien's work, and they cause a lot of trouble for marginalized readers and for fan creators grappling with it in relation to meta and fic.
That the Silmarillion is a largely-omniscient myth-text narrative, composed from a variety of drafts, the discarded versions of which we also have access to, further compounds the issue. Who has read what? Who samples from what? How deeply do some themes pervade both the text and the fandom? There are discarded portions that raise eyebrows (and thankfully, were edited out at some point). However, there are moments where those discarded portions shine through the cracks in exposition, dialogue and reasoning left in the official composite text by the sweeping style of the narrative. The composite can be seen to still rest on certain narrative and valuational presuppositions of Tolkien's - presuppositions he assumes the reader to share.
In the text, of course some have value or more of it, some have honor or more of it, some overcome darkness while some naturally succumb to it. The narrative certainty in these characterizations rests on these lurking (racist, antisemitic, ableist) presuppositions, and in some cases handwaves any deeper exploration or explanation.
There seem to be two fan solutions to reckoning with a cross-draft-consistent bigoted theme. 1) Write meta that explores its traits and manifestations in the text and syncretizes canon assertions with authorial biases, and/or fic that directly addresses the in-text impact of these biases. 2) With an awareness of the bigoted themes, create headcanons, new verses, and fic that subverts, rewrites, or negates the original theme. The former refuses to allow the presuppositions of the text to become the presuppositions of the fandom. The latter allows (particularly marginalized) fans generative space, fodder to create anew, breathing room, and expanded perspectives. Different functions, parallel purposes, both important.
Because it's fandom, and it's large, and our idea of on-the-side fun and not our job or our marriage, we do not have the same preferences for how we go about dealing with these textual issues or the cohesive pressure to be like minded (even as we recognize the need to deal with them). One person's way of reckoning with textual biases or gaps may strike another as reaching too far from canon to be of appeal. This is a common reaction to headcanons, canon divergences and alternate universes, and crack or humor, particularly in the tolkien fandom. However, personal preference is not a basis for asserting that someone is reading the text wrong, especially when the issue at hand is one of reparative analysis and creation.
I am drawn to the issue of the Petty Dwarves. Most information on them comes in pieces from disparate drafts and satellite texts. Some information was erased entirely from the published Silmarillion. However, many people have noted the continual issues in Tolkien's treatment of the Dwarves, the iterative issues with his treatment of the Petty Dwarves, and rightly begin to link the two, plumb them down to their connecting factor, and begin excavating the silences in the narrative which Tolkien allows to be filled by presupposition.
I have found that people who cite personal preference may bring up canon elements to excuse or disprove certain readings; I would argue that the canon elements cited are less often exculpatory of our faves and more often proof of deeper biases, proof of biased presupposition as a stand in for rich characterization. Let me explain. We hear from the Sindar that the Petty Dwarves are reclusive, aggressive, and territorial (on this they base their initial assessment that the Petty Dwarves are two-legged animals for hunting). We hear from the Dwarves who cross the Blue Mountains later that the Petty Dwarves descend from expelled Dwarves who were the smallest, weakest, most conniving and self-serving, and violent persons. At one point, Tolkien describes the Petty Dwarves as older residents in Beleriand than both the Sindar and the eastern Dwarves, and the original inhabitants of Nargothrond, and it is them who Finrod hires to finish its construction. Tolkien describes the Petty Dwarves as agreeing to do this under false and duplicitous pretenses (for what reason, he doesn't say); later, Mim tries to kill Finrod (again, the narrative is sparse on motive), and Finrod alternately outs the Petty Dwarves from Nargothrond or pays the other Dwarves to turn them out. Tolkien evidently means for this to paint a picture of a group of people who are inherently wicked, cannot help but be so, are hated and pitied (for one does not preclude the other, and all good people should pity bad people, after all), and bring about their own diminishment. There's the in-universe justification for it.
I mean to explore why it is not satisfactory to leave the matter alone at "the Petty Dwarves brought about their own downfall." To begin, why does Tolkien rely on the characteristics he does when describing both the Petty Dwarves and Dwarves in general? These are multiple pieces of bigotry at play, chiefly some old antisemitic stereotypes (which have already been unpacked at length and by Jewish fans who are more knowledgable than I; if other have more to add, please do so). But I will give it a try.
First, Tolkien never pins down why the Petty Dwarves are expelled westward, only vaguely pinning it on their inborn characteristics. One old piece of antisemitism held that Jewish people were smaller and weaker than gentiles; Jewish men are still held to be less masculine, which can be traced from a medieval supposition that Jewish men menstruated. Coupled with the ableism of expelling the stunted and the inutile, Tolkien describes here a sort of itinerant and pitiful scrounger who does not belong in a society to which it cannot contribute and into which it cannot assimilate. The concept of vagrancy and the homelandlessness (consider the antisemitism in the concept of the cosmopolitan Jew, and Tolkien's deliberate linkage of Dwarves and losing their homes), is further connected to antisemitism by the Petty Dwarves being duplicitous, self-serving backstabbers toward Finrod, who Tolkien sets up as innocent and trusting enough to sleep unguarded near Mim, further juxtaposing the two. Furthermore, the gentile assertion that Jewish people are violent is escalated to accusations of blood libel and sorcery. Tolkien may not go that far, but he ties this predisposition for violence into the passage about Nargothrond, and their territorial defensiveness and their aggression toward the Sindar. Jewish people have long been stereotyped as insular, traditional, and cold to outsiders (consider the gentile furor over "goy"). All of this passes under the surface of the text - where Tolkien does not elaborate, this rises to the surface to color the reading.
When fans identify these elements in the text (and realize they are very similar to Tolkien's handling of the Dwarvish sacking of Doriath, or gold sickness, or Dwarvish isolationism as a whole), they begin to investigate the places they show up in text. The meta they write must try to syncretize the canon of what is said with the authorial context applied in the characterization. The fic they write must try to fill in lazy gaps left, and to imagine and then confront the missing exigence to the conflict while refuting the antisemitic presuppositions upon which the text relies in place of characterization.
Because it's fanwork, some people may have concepts that you think miss the mark or push further with assertions than you think is logical. However, no one who is in good faith creating, exploring, or trying to remedy the issues of the text, can be accused of using their ideas as a cudgel against canon or against others. Discussion is welcome, when it is conducted in good faith as well.
Relying too heavily on the surface-level assertions of canon to shoot down these musings at times verges upon what I have described above: leaning into the in-world justifications of hierarchy and subjugation to excuse the real-world hierarchies upon which these presuppositions are built. It is not so important how or when the Sindar realized the Petty Dwarves were people: what matters is that Tolkien created a character group, designed to be hated and pitied but never respected, onto whom he mapped real world stereotypes, and set them up in events where these stereotypes lead. It's highly worth considering why we are defending portions of text that are inherently bigoted. The whole broth here is the issue, but people are quibbling over whether they've fished out a potato versus a turnip.

DP X DC SPEED FORCE LINKED WITH INFINITE REALMS
Every Flash, no matter the version or earth, canonically is using the same Speed Force. The DCAU Flash uses the same Speed Force as the Earth-16 Flash, pre-crisis Flash, etc. You get the idea. That's even how speedsters can travel universes! Because the Speed Force is the same for all of them, it allows for a connection between all universes. And even better canonically Speed Force users don’t just use it or channel it. They are physical embodiments of the Speed Force. (and I’m uncertain if this is still dc canon or if this has been retconned by now but Speedsters are the outlet for the Speed Force. They cannot stop running or put down the Flash costume in some versions of their character as they do not have a choice if there is not another speedster. They must continue to run or there is no outlet for it then time gets all fucky and unstable with objects from the past appearing in the present. Think Into the Spider-Verse type glitching but with a threat of the timeline collapsing in on itself if it continues too far & isn't fixed.)
Now let's discuss the Infinite Realms. In fanon its been held that similar logic applies. While unlike the Speed Force in that ghosts aren't the physical outlet for the energy of the Zone (but that would be a very fun concept for Ghost King AU), they can harness the energy from the Zone. Also like the Speed Force, the Infinite Realms in fanon can be used as a method of contacting or reaching other universes and that no matter the earth, version, or point in history. There is one Ghost Zone. It is infinite, it spans across all universes and times.
The link between the fact that speedsters Are The Speed Force & the tie between both the Speed Force and the Infinite Realms being a similar constant in all universes could be explored in so many ways. One of which is that the Speed Force and the Infinite Realms resonate on similar frequencies (or opposing frequencies as comic book logic would totally be on my side for that working) and Speedsters might react to the exposure or leakage of the Infinite Realms into their world depending if the Infinite Realms are similar or opposing to the Speed Force. But either way there is a fundamental connection between the two.
So, to conclude, have one of my many ideas where these two intersect:
- Barry Allen captured and disarmed a new rogue toting an odd glowing green gun. Barry being the smart motherfucker he is, disassembles the weapon and proceeds to be utterly confused. He accidentally touched the weird glowing green substance that was leaking out of the device but when the side of his hand brushed the touched the substance it administered an oddly familiar feeling shock of electricity. But that wasn’t right. The Speed Force feels alive with a rhythm and pulse of that he could feel resonate with each beat of his heart. But whatever this was felt, for lack of better words, dead. Stagnant. Ancient. It already reached infinity and instead of continuing to expand with continuous energy, it had already stopped long ago.
A shiver went down his spine as he went to write up a report to the Watchtower, warning anyone else about these weird weapons and a request for Bats to look more into the Drs. Fenton.
- Wally accidentally vibrates at the wrong frequency when trying to go through a wall and falls into the GZ
- Alternatively: Bart Allen can at will open a portal to the GZ and that’s how he got back to the past. In addition to being the ADHD embodiment the Young Justice knows very well, he’s also just a Tad liminal. His eyes are backlit with lightning when angry. When he runs, his electricity is tinged green giving a fun red, yellow, green, white color scheme. But the YJ crew just chalk it up to Bart being from the future and having anger issues while connected to the Speed Force.
- Speedsters being able to understand ghost speak but in the same manner that while a modern English speaker can understand maybe a few words in a sentence of Old English, it’s still pretty fucking hard but like, some things they can kinda gleam what they’re saying. It just ends up making things even more confusing from misunderstandings and changes in meaning causing miscommunication to occur.
I have so many more ideas based on this but for now I’m going to leave those for other days so I can go to bed.

List of TVD/Original-verse Minishifts (Part 2, Electric Boogaloo)
Tw: blood, sex, violence, death, manipulation & dark themes. My dream Mikaelsons do not play nice at all. Be warned.
Unlike my other DRs where I've had success in scripting some things like choosing when I go in and where...this...whatever it is?? A weird alternate universe of the TVD/Original-verse or something?? Doesn't seem to play by the rules and refuses to adhere to any script I've tried to throw at it. At this point, I'm just riding the ride...
If anything, it's good inspiration for a story. Even if I sound absolutely crazy...

⚜️ Davina Claire is sitting on a three-legged stool, focusing on a singing bowl placed in front of her on a work table. Herbs, crystals, and candles litter the table as well. I can't tell what kinds of stones or herbs they are. This shift was quick to come & quicker to go. She is (slowly) circling the wooden mallet of the singing bowl around the rim of it, creating a brassy, humming sound. It looks like she is meditating while doing this. [Awake]
⚜️ Rebekah and her new werewolf boyfriend (who I'm pretty certain is that blonde named Oliver) are having really loud sex upstairs in one of the rooms of the Mikaelson chateau. The one in the French Quarter. I'm stuck as a ghost listening to it down in the courtyard & wishing I could raid their wet bar so at least I'm drunk while being stuck here. Their loud sex turns into loud conversation and arguing about Marcel. It seems like Oliver feels like a rebound. But if the shoe fits, my dude, you should probably wear it... [Awake]
⚜️ Elijah pours himself a late-night drink of aged liquor from his special reserve cabinet hidden in the office room of the Mikaelson chateau. He's agitated about something. It looks like he hasn't...I guess, fed?? There are the growing signs of dark circles underneath his eyes. The first button of his button-down shirt is undone, his silk tie is loosened. He's gripping the cut crystal glass too tight. His dark gaze trails over to the many journals he has opened at his desk. Some journals look old as fuck. Some of them look newer, with fresher pages that aren't yellowed and brittle and musty. I think these journals are his... [Awake]
⚜️ Rebekah watching YouTube facial & skin care tutorials and making snide commentary at the YouTubers she doesn't like or how she has been doing the very same beautification regiment for hundreds of years longer than them. There's also some Youtubers that she does like and I notice her adding them to her playlist. I had to have been there for 20 mins just sitting on her bed while she sat in front of her vanity mirror, applying makeup to get ready for some event. On the plus side?? I've started incorporating facial scrubs into my own routine here in my CR. [Awake]
⚜️ Niklaus strolling on into the chateau at 3 am with two drunk girls on either side of him & one other that he's more focused on. She's the most drunk. One of the girls tugs on his arm, asking him in a slurred voice "where all the fun is at?" and that she's "bored". The girl wearing a tight black cocktail dress asks Nik "if there's any liquor here?" and pouts. Klaus laughs, assuring them that the fun has just begun, and leads them all upstairs. I decide that I'm staying in the courtyard for this but for some fucking reason, I feel myself being dragged upstairs along with them. Even tho I try to grab hold tight to the bannister of the staircase. It doesn't work. The scene is going to Klaus' painting room whether I want to go or not...
With huge amounts of pride, Niklaus shows off his "post modern art." Especially to that one girl he's fixated on. I notice him sliding up behind her to wrap his arms around her shoulders. I wince. I try to say something to interrupt what I predict is going to unfold in a few seconds. Nobody hears me. Klaus has that girl in his clutches. He asks her what her opinion on the piece is and when she goes to speak, his mouth is on the crook of her neck. What comes out of the girl's mouth is a soft little whimper to which Klaus teasingly says "Oh, is it that good, love?? You could say I'm inspired-" and that's when he takes a vicious bite into her neck. The blood spurting goes everywhere. On the walls, on the paintings. He was not neat or precise with his bite. He didn't even give her a chance to scream. But I am screaming.
I try to run out of the room. But, as soon as I do, I seem to hit an invisible wall. And I can't push through it. I'm left to watch Klaus drop the girl whose neck now has a gaping hole in it and see the other two girls scream and try to scramble for the door. He lets them have a second where they think they're gonna make it and...basically catches, compels, & forces them to act like death is just one huge turn on kink they have. I, on the other hand, have slid down the surface of the invisible wall & now sit on the floor, repeating "I'm in my CR" over and over again until suddenly I'm back in my room. I did not sleep that night. [Awake]
⚜️ Niklaus on another occasion, escorting a very beautiful, dark haired, Latina out of the chateau after a night spent together. I catch sight of the woman staring directly at me as she and Klaus walk past me in the courtyard. She says nothing about it to him. [Awake]
⚜️ Elijah has a very tense conversation over speaker phone with Marcel in his office. Idk why this is on speaker phone since nobody that I can see is with Elijah...except me. But Elijah doesn't see me or he is pretending not to??? Anyways, Marcel is vehemently deflecting Elijah's pointed accusations that he's trying to undermine the Mikaelson's authority over New Orleans. Marcel points out that he can't undermine "Mikaelson authority" when he's settled across the river, not inside the French Quarter, & running his own vampire club. He can't be blamed that he runs the show better than them. Elijah adjusts something on his sleeves, reiterates the terms of a truce they had made, and Marcel laughs. Somewhere outside the office, I hear the sound of a door being slammed shut. [Awake]
⚜️ Father Kieran stomps into the chateau & he looks like absolute garbage. He demands to talk to Elijah while Klaus taunts him in the courtyard and Kieran barely restrains what I imagine was going to be a punch to the face. Elijah takes the priest up to his office but not after reminding Klaus that he's being "sullen" for someone who wanted to be King of New Orleans. This leaves me alone with Klaus in the courtyard whose mood suddenly swings to anger. He flings one of the garden tables across the courtyard, nearly missing me. I'm not happy about this either, Klaus. [Awake]
⚜️ Klaus just sitting there & reading a book for what felt like a half an hour. Pretty sure it was a Dickens book. I honestly wasn't really paying attention because while he was in his book, I was trying to slam my body against the invisible barrier that prevents me from leaving the chateau. Eventually I tired myself out to the point I ended up back in my CR. [Awake]
⚜️ Klaus and Rebekah sniping at each other after Klaus took a jab at Rebekah about her choices in "rebound guys." Elijah rubs at his forehead like he's having a particularly bad migraine and eventually walks away. There is a dead body of a girl just laying on the table in-between Klaus and Rebekah like she's the leftover McDonald's bags they forgot to toss in the trash. Her blood is dripping down onto the rug, creating a huge dark red stain spot. I am still not used to this. The show made it a lot...easier to take in. [Awake]
⚜️ The hell week Niklaus & Rebekah seemed to be in a competition on who could be more petty. I would seriously get tiny minishifts of Rebekah turning up the music when Niklaus was painting or Niklaus ruining her sheets & bed with another...leftover...person. That he'd just fed on. Or Rebekah tainting the rim of all of Klaus' wine glasses with Vervain. Niklaus fucked up Oliver in turn. Elijah had to squash it with a big, uncomfortable, family fun time meeting. Saying that they were letting their boredom get the better of them finally being able to enjoy having a "home" again. Why do I gotta be a part of family fun time? [Awake]
⚜️ Being in my CR, walking into the kitchen for a 3 am snack, and hearing Elijah's voice say "Niklaus, listen to reason!" as if the two of them were just in the other room and me replying in a deadpan voice before I realized I said anything "he's not gonna, bro." [Awake]
⚜️ Watching the St. Anne's massacre with Cami's twin brother just losing his shit. I'm not going to elaborate on this one. There's a reason the show didn't really show the scene in full. [Asleep]
⚜️ Laying awake in my bed, staring up at the ceiling because I can't sleep, noticing that it looks different than I remember, and seeing a familiar hand out of the corner of my eye. This hand has a daylight ring attached to it and leather bracelets with steel beads. My heart leaps into my throat. I jump out of bed to realize I'm back inside my room in my CR. Nobody is in my bed. [Awake]
⚜️ The three week period of time in my CR when Joeseph Morgan scambot pages kept flooding into my Facebook inbox. This isn't a minishift, it was just weird & super annoying. [Awake]
⚜️ One of the few times I wasn't stuck inside the Mikaelson chateau. Klaus is standing in the shadows of an alleyway across the street from Rousseau's, I think?? He's waiting for a person to come outside. [Awake]

So these are all the major minishifts that are memorable. Trust me, there's been more but they were just...little mundane moments that happened for an instant & were gone just as quick.
All of these minishifts and I still can't put any of them together as to why my imagination & dreams keep bringing me there. After all, I am currently obsessed with Hazbin Hotel & would rather be chilling with Alastor or Nifty or fucking Vox even.
Tomorrow is the New Moon in Pisces and it's a prime time to start dreamwork. So even if I don't feel prepared enough... I've decided it's high time to actually stop resisting the tug & be the bigger problem for my most likely all in my head dream Mikaelsons.
Wish me luck.
I'll be reporting in soon with a breakdown of my "TVD/Originals DR" and field notes. This time, I'm going to focus on a "DR-self" that I can embody so that I'm not stuck as a ghost which is a huge big bummer. Of course, that also means that the Mikaelsons will be able to see & interact with me. If I run into them at all...
