Look in all seriousness you can't redeem a character without showing them being pathetic, deep loser energy. There are no cool redemption arcs. They have to be in the trenches. They have to hate themselves for the mistakes they made. They have to apologize and take whatever is given be it forgiveness or a punch to the jaw. ONLY then will the redemption arc be actually good because it will be cathartic. And then they get to see the good things, they get to be touched gently and held while they sleep.

These things can overlap, even into a circle but without the pathetic loser boy saga your redemption arc will feel hollow.

unconventional gender neutral terms of endearment ^^

(mostly made this cause my drafts always have "baby" a million times and then i replace them lol)

- pretty (as in pretty girl/boy, but without the gender word attached) - starlight/my star, sunshine - honestly if you put "my" before anything it could probably work as an endearment - animals: firefly (got the idea from sufjan stevens), bunny, dove, mouse, hamster, hummingbird, penguin, monkey 😭, kitten (this one's kinda popular) - flowers: tulip, rose, sunflower, a flower that's special between your characters - fruits/vegetables: pumpkin, bean, mango, lychee, kiwi, peach, nectarine, apricot, berry(!!), blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, cherry, etc - sweets! a special weakness of mine is sweets from the person saying the endearment's culture. like if someone who was also indian called me their kaju katli i'd melt (but probably not laddu unless it's clear they're teasing and i get back at them 💀). maybe runs the risk of being cringey tho? honestly as long as it's from the sayer's culture and suits their personality it's fine - examples of sweets that don't belong to a certain culture: cookie, brownie - nature: snowflake, raindrop?? (i guess it works if your character has something to do with water), sprout, sapling

and here's some classic gn terms of endearment if your character's more into that: - darling (i see this as a perfect alternative to princess/prince) - love/my love - lovely/beautiful - baby/babe (can be used in both cute and teasing/suggestive moods) - angel (personal favorite of mine!) - dear (it's so "grown old together" vibes, i'm in love with this one for this purpose) - honey, honey pie, sugar, sweet(ie). honestly if they're used for s/os, it feels kinda old-fashioned. but for parent figures saying it to someone much younger that they care about, children or otherwise? (i'm imagining a southern (from america) beekeeper with no children or spouse of her own who sells her famous honey to buy food for the small army of orphaned children that shows up on her front porch every morning for breakfast. and these are the kinds of things she'd call them. perfection.)

I cannot stop thinking about vegas expecting pete to leave.

everything he loves leaves, except for pete, and except for macau. but macau is the same as him, trapped under the weight of the minor family, the weight of their father even though he's now dead. pete is not trapped in any way he can't escape from. pete could leave, and vegas would let him. pete chooses to stay again and again and again.

vegas wakes up every morning and feels a thrill of shock and awe that pete is still beside him. how long does it take for his first thought to be about what he's going to make for breakfast, or driving macau to school, or the best way to have pete shaking and begging beneath him? for him to simply enjoy everything he has, rather than questioning why he still has it, expecting it to have stolen away in the dark while he slept.

is it months after waking in the hospital to pete letting the sunlight in? a year? five years? ten?

on that morning does vegas awake and greet the ache of long-healed wounds in his chest like an old friend. does he marvel at the way light from the window picks out the cluster of white hairs starting to gather at pete's temple. does he gentle his fingers, used so often for violence, to trace at the now permanent laugh lines gracing pete's eyes.

does it jolt like missing a step on the stairs when he realises. the brief confusion about what he's missing before he grasps that it isn't something he's lost but something he's gained, or rather something he's had for the longest time but is only now believing he has it.

pete has chosen him again and again, day after day, morning after morning, and the longest-held truth of his life has been eroded away until it is no longer a truth. he wakes reverent, awed, thankful, filled with all-consuming love, but no longer surprised.

he wakes up to sunlight, and to pete, and is no longer afraid.

so to start, there’s multiple websites to do this but the main one is use is stuffbydavid.com

once you get there, you’ll see something like this

it’s simple !! just follow the steps as they go, so for step one — enter your desired text. you can see that i already did that. so for step two, you’re allowed to choose whatever color effect you want.

all of the gradient effects are: horizontal (mixture of two colors), middle (kinda like horizontal), three colored, (three colors mixed), solid (just one color), random (picks any color for you), and colors of the rainbow (basically a default rainbow color for all)

the one i’m currently using for the example is three colored gradient !! my personal go to for my fics is always middle gradient tho.

anywho, back on the site — ignore step four.

as you can see for step five and the final step, it shows you the preview of your desired colors for your text. listen to this part because if you screw up, it won’t paste onto tumblr. you’re gonna wanna copy the HTML code from top to bottom. copy the entire code that’s shown, you might have to scroll a bit bc it’s pretty long (pause)

after this, you’re gonna wanna log into tumblr via the mobile browser. i forgot to mention, i’m doing this on the app version but it works for pc / laptop as well !! more complicated though but it all works the same.

so first, you’re gonna wanna make a new seperate draft — then press the little pencil icon to make edits.

look near the top right and click the settings icon

look where it says Text Editor and click near the right where it says 'Rich Text' bc ur gonna change that

after you click it, change it to HTML

it’s gonna send you here, make you’re you’re on HTML and not Preview yet. create a space above all the text that has like <p> and so on. paste your code, then that should be all !! save it and you can press preview afterwards to see the final results.

For anyone who wants to take inspiration on the way I write my story

I've set it up to three (and a half) plots in one book. But, these plots aren't totally separated- they all affect one another, and affect other plot points on the line as well!

1. Serious Baby's internal conflict (Yellow)

In this plot I focus on Serious Baby's character, how is past history and hidden secrets affect the way he interacts with his friend and love interest Jerry Cat. He's shielded and doesn't want to share his history, and would much rather focus on his studies. But this exaggeration on the value of his studies leads to his mentor, Luna, to push him from his studies and focus on himself, something he does not want. This helps set up the exposition for the story, and how Jerry Cat gets introduced! But Serious Baby struggles and comes to his mentor for help on how to open himself up more to his friend.

2. External Conflict/Plot (Pink)

In this story the external conflict begins with a fungal parasite spreading and affecting one of Serious Baby's younger friends, Billy. This leads to Luna bringing them and telling them of the threat that may come in time soon to come. She gives them a solution to find out how to defeat the fiends that will cause the infection and control the city of Cat Vegas: research.

3. Mini Arcs (Green)

Not just any time of research, though! The two must "jump time", using a book that allows one to explore prospective universes, and figure out how this threat was defeated in the past. They must learn how to control where they want the pages of this book to lead, and must learn how to jump to different worlds. But in order to master this technique, they must parse through worlds created by their subconscious minds. Cue rise and fall of small lessons that are taught through these individual worlds.

4. Side Character Plot (Blue)

Not everyone has been freed from the actions of the threat (the fiends Flame and Fungi). Billy, a child who had been taken away from his ocean world many moons ago by Flame, faces it in a battle. Already infected, his fight leads him to have multiple burn wounds. His manager at the soda shop he works at, Wert, realizes what a problem this fiend is, and works his own plot to get revenge for it toasting his apprentice. Billy's friends, Mad Boy and Sadd Man also seek revenge, and although Wert has hated them to no degree at first, accepts their help and the unlikely help from the city's own minor nuisance of Macata the Ninja Thief.
