They work so hard, so you take them on holiday
Where do (Gaz, Ghost, Soap, and Price) like to go on holiday
Not spellchecked :)
Gaz
He's still young and carefree so I see him as a city lover
There's so much to see and do and he has an insane love for street food
He loves all the major cities but some of his favourites are Berlin, Tokyo, and New York
Isn't afraid to stay in a hostel
Ghost
In game he mentions that he goes hunting so it's not a stretch to say he enjoys outdoor activities
With his love of solitude he most likely enjoys visiting countries with nice forests or countryside
Because of this I think he'd like central and eastern Europe
This region has beautiful landscapes that aren't too dissimilar to the ones in the UK
Plus the traditional food and drink in these countries is amazing
If you manage to convince him to go into a city he spends most of his time looking at the architecture
His favourite cities are Budapest, Varna, and Rijeka
Bonus: He is in love with the history of Liechtenstein
Price
As much as I can picture him as the stereotypical British tourist in a resort because that's all British dad's I don't think he enjoys resort holidays
In fact I think if he is going on holiday he's having a staycation, a vacation in the UK
The UK has some lovely holiday destinations up and down the island and they all feel different
Plus every town and city in the UK has a pub, guaranteed
His favourite places to holiday are Cornwall, Devon, and the Lake District
If he does go abroad it's probably not too far, most likely France
Soap
Different places in Scotland
He loves his home country and isn't ashamed to admit he hasn't been to most of it
But he wants to change that and he wants to bring you along
Going abroad? Somewhere warm
Typical tourist places like Spain and Italy
Only wants to stay in hotels or apartments in the city
Can't stand resorts or hostels
Really likes fun cocktails

Archaeologists Discovered Roman Floor Mosaics in Bulgaria
Archaeologists discovered floor mosaics with early Christian designs and nearly 800 artifacts in the archaeological reserve of Marcianopolis in Devnya, in the northeastern part of Bulgaria.
The Roman town of Marcianopolis (present-day Devnya) in northeastern Bulgaria appears to have originated as a Thracian settlement. It was later inhabited by Hellenized settlers from Asia Minor and named Parthenopolis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Roman Marcianopolis was established around 106 CE, following Trajan’s campaigns in Dacia to the north. The settlement was named after his sister, Ulpia Marciana. At the crossroads between Odessos (modern Varna), Durostorum, and Nicopolis ad Istrum, as well as the location of plentiful springs, Marcianopolis became a strategically important settlement.
Diocletian’s administrative reforms in the late third century CE divided Moesia Inferior into Moesia Secunda and Scythia Minor, with Marcianopolis serving as the former’s administrative capital. Marcianopolis experienced its most prosperous period during the middle of the fourth century CE. From 367 CE to 369 CE, the eastern emperor Valens used Marcianopolis as his winter quarters during campaigns against Visigoth incursions in the region. During this time, it served as the Eastern Empire’s temporary capital.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Floor mosaics with early Christian designs were found in the remains of a building. Archaeologists are not yet sure whether it was a public building or it belonged to a rich Roman citizen.
The tentative dating of the mosaics is in the first half of the 4th century AD.
The finds from the current archaeological season in Devnya contain another thousand bronze coins, several clay lamps and two clay vessels, which are awaiting scientific processing and restoration.
During the past archeological season, researchers restored bronze vessels discovered in the 1990s in a brick-walled tomb dating to the late 2nd – early 3rd century.
The vessels had a ritual use and were related to the personality of the person buried, Mosaic Museum director Ivan Sutev said in a statement to BTA.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are richly decorated and the workmanship is exquisite, he added. The find includes a vessel for pouring liquids as offering to a deity, and a wine jug with a trefoil mouth (oenochoe). A simple kitchen pan was also found along with these. All this leads archaeologists to suggest that a Roman citizen of Marcianopolis may have been laid to rest in the tomb, but that he may have had more specific functions: a soldier, a cook, or even a priest, Sutev said.
Pottery that was discovered in the basilica’s environs during excavations in 2023 has since been restored. Among these are a mortarium vessel for liquids and an exquisite crater-shaped pot for liquids. These were located in the structure with the mosaic floors. Coins from the time of Emperor Theodosius II were also found scattered on the floor.
In 447, Attila’s Huns captured and destroyed Marcionopolis after conquering the entire Balkan Peninsula but failing to capture Constantinople. That is determined by 20 gold coins scattered on the floor of the building being studied. On one side of the coins is an image of Theodosius II, while on the other is the patron goddess of Constantinople. Among the coins discovered during the Marcianopolis excavations were those from the city’s founding in the second century. The latter are dated to the sixth century, around the time of Emperor Justinian.

Some quick geography revision:
The Czarina Catherine entered the Black Sea through the Dardanelles in the south, bypassed Varna, and made landfall at Galatz, hundreds of miles to the north.
(It may not be clear at this map scale, but although Galatz -- properly Galați -- is inland it's connected to the sea via the Danube river, and is a significant port city.)
(Edit to add: Also not visible at this map scale is the Bosporus Strait, running through Istanbul, which is how the ship got from the Dardanelles into the Black Sea.)

The Light Side of The Moon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🌙 Pairing: Rudra x Moon goddess!reader
🌙 Setting: post Ragnarok
🌙 Warnings: mention of wine, sex (oral, penetration), nudity, death.
To @seijuuns-fantasy. You deserve it, thank you for waiting so patiently!
Part 1 of 4: A Shining Problem. Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
Summary: Where you are a moon goddess of immense power (like Tanit), but motherly, gentle and, after sorrowful relationships, afraid to fall in love again; but love comes to you anyway.
And he has four arms.
🌖🌕🌘
“Guys! Make room, he’s here!”
When Varna opens the doors wide and breaks into the elegant chamber, everybody jolts.
The place, full of deities busy in chattering, laughing and enjoying the summer evening and the party thrown by Shiva, becomes more and more silent as the gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon lower their voices in a whisper or hush themselves in surprise, and they all stare at the God of Water in wait.
Indra stops smoking and his hand remains suspended in mid air, as if he had become a statue by spell, while you interrupt the conversation with Brahma and Vishnu and turn your head slowly, a cold shiver running down your spine. What’s happening?
It is the same feeling as when the heavy rain is coming and you can’t see the moon, her peaceful shape lost behind the clouds: not an unbearable or painful sensation, but a light wave of melancholy and sadness.
Your throat is suddenly dry, so you take a sip of wine from the chiseled cup in your hands and frown nervously, while looking at Varna.
The friendly god is taking deep breaths and smiling, supported by the general cheering and encouragement; when he can finally speak again, his smile becomes wider. You notice that he is searching for someone among the crowd; and when he sees you, he stops and his eyes seem to laugh in joy. “Nobody was expecting it, but he really came― Rudra! Rudra is back, he’s here!”
Rudra.
Somehow, you manage not to spit the wine in someone’s face.
The cheeks on fire, you swallow the lump of wine and saliva in your mouth, frantically looking round the chamber for an escape route; doing so, your eyes cross Brahma’s gaze, who notices your sudden agitation and approaches you in a few seconds.
“(Y/N), are you fine? You are turning pale.”
“I… I need hair. Fresh air” is all you can say without losing all self-control; but your thin voice and uncertain words are buried by the chaotic mess that follows the news, so you find yourself sinking in a cacophony of noises and voices, the growing turmoil that competes with your thunderous heartbeat. It seems to want to break your rib cage and flesh, your dress and even your soul, and at this thought you can’t hold back a tear: you can’t stop it, you can’t stop nothing.
Rudra is back, and I have to go. I have to run away, quickly.
Dazed, stunned by many emotions, you take a few steps back, bumping into someone you don’t recognize; a pair of arms grab you as you trip over your feet, someone frees up a seat for you and helps you sit down, and you realize it only when the view changes and then your eyes widen.
“I shouldn’t be here”, you repeat to yourself like a chant, a magic spell that can make you escape from this place, “I shouldn’t be here”; but nobody is listening to you, because everyone is looking at those damned doors, now in front of you.
“I shouldn’t be here”, you murmur one more time, addressing who is about to appear on the threshold.
I’m not ready for you. I’m not ready for your gentle smile, for your warmth, for your strong presence. You are here and I have to leave, if I want to save myself. There’s no room for both, here.
When finally the god who everyone awaits enters the chamber and opens all his arms in a big embrace, the sweetest expression in his face and a million stars in his eyes, you feel like the weakest creature the Heavens have given birth to.
... But, to be honest, you are neither weak nor miserable at all.
You are (Y/N), the Great Moon, the powerful goddess of a mighty city that lasted for millennia, birthplace of kings and queens, rulers, warlords, sailors, sages, poets, and everlasting wonders.
Your city has fallen a long time ago, and still your name is spoken, your power remembered, your divine figure adored; there are prayers in your honor, old and new, and in many temples and religious places, under the cover of new religions, people still worship you and rely on your healing arms.
Your children go and other children come, all seeking your guidance and maternal light; and among the deities, you are no less respected and admired, and known for your great heart.
When someone is in need and calls, you answer; you come and listen, comfort, help, nourish, bringing the clarity of the moon to those who have lost the path.
Only a few know your dark side, the other face of yours: you are the Moon, therefore you are Light and Darkness, birth and destruction, sorrow.
It was the sorrow, the greatest pain, that led you to the Hindu pantheon; because only with a broken heart you could drown yourself under a storm and accept the rain, the cold water and the loneliness without a single word.
You are the Moon: you are a goddess, yet you are aware of what it means to be consumed by the obscurity, to sink into it, to bathe in the blackness and the void… and what it means to remerge, to grow, to be whole again.
Only two times you made this journey, the death of your soul and the rebirth: the first time you healed yourself without any help, spending time with the silence and your bleeding heart, your voice and their voice. Your opponents were strong and had sharp teeth, but you managed to defeat and to cure them, like the mother you are.
The second time… the second time, you nearly lost your most precious treasure: yourself.
This story is like a legend among the deities, at least those who know it: the goddess (Y/N) almost killed by love… by the love for a human.
No one knows the whole truth: neither Indra, the first to meet you in one of the most terrible thunderstorms that humankind remembers, nor Shiva’s wives, the goddesses who took care of you when the God of Thunder entered the same chamber where you are now, covered in scratches, bruises and bite marks and carrying a creature cloaked in a pulsating blackness: you, wrapped in your tears and nightmares, like a dying planet or a messenger of Hate.
You don’t remember much about the battle you had against Indra, how he defeated you and dragged you to Shiva and the other gods; and you can’t estimate the amount of kindness Parvati, Kali and Durga, with the help of the others, showered on your open wounds, step by step, because it is as huge as the ocean that bathes the ruins of your beloved city.
In the blink of an eye, gods and goddesses of many pantheons came to know that Lord Shiva and the other Hindu deities were taking care of the Great Moon; many of them angered when they heard your story and offered their strength and powers to avenge you, but you choose the silence for the second time in your existence, while the Hindu pantheon made the rest protecting you, sheltering you from the ravenous clouds over your head.
The Mother became a child, but no one blamed her for it; and with the help of your new friends and family, taking your time, slowly but steadily, in the end you emerged from your greedy darkness to shine again, brighter and brighter.
Now you are more powerful than before, wiser, happier: you don’t fear loneliness anymore, now you know very well that there will always be a place for you here, in the Hindu pantheon, and this gives you strength… and still, you are afraid of something.
Love.
The bond intertwined with sorrow.
The feeling that destroys.
The end of all things.
For centuries and centuries love has forgotten you, allowing you to breathe; but now, now its burning breath blows into your throat and binds your heart with chains, laughing at all your weakness.
You know it very well: and you won’t forgive it for taking the form of Rudra, the quiet, gentle and protective Rudra.
No, you won’t forgive it at all.
🌒🌕🌘
For many deities, Rudra was, is and will be a benediction.
The God of the Storms is a breath of fresh air: he is a new beginning, a leading hand, a friend, an inspiration.
He is confident, loyal and polite, and kind: the proof is the serene laughter that leaves his mouth when he sees all his friends and they gather around him to welcome him, greeting, making a thousand questions, hugging.
He sees the dreams of those who he loves and goes the extra mile to help them get to the top; his devotion to his own ideals is a light for everyone, and if the Hindu pantheon is now a family, it is also thanks to him.
Tonight, after a long wandering of his, the god has a smile for everyone, words, memories to recall and to share, thoughts and little presents; it takes him an hour to come to you and his closest friends, but in the end he is in front of you all, his gaze filled with joy and expectations.
Seated between a quiet Indra and a more than enthusiastic Varna, you couldn’t escape even with the fastest legs in the world, so you resigned yourself to stay a few moments and assumed your most serene expression, hoping that no one notices your accelerated heartbeat; but while you smile back at Rudra and greet him in a low, soft tone, your eyes meet and in the depths of your soul something arises, and resounds in the way you stand up and hug him with more impetus than necessary, without rationally wanting to but not being able to hold yourself anymore.
Immediatly, the god responds hugging you with all his arms and gently shaking and cradling you, his giggles piercing your mind and soul.
He softly kisses your forehead, and then looks at the light you are emanating: he has traveled everywhere, wandering, discovering things never seen before, but no matter how many people he has met and sunrises he has admired, he has never found a clarity similar to yours.
Right now, you are lighting up the large room: the walls reflect your essence like mirrors, you make them shine like diamonds.
Wrapped in your long purple gown, your hair braided with little golden chains and lifted up to reveal the neck, in his eyes you are beautiful like the summer moon or a nocturnal sun: and you are here, in his arms, leaning against his protective body and strong heart, begging for another embrace.
Until now, you didn’t know how much you craved it ― but this is wrong, it is forbidden to you.
Forgive me for everything.
“(Y/N)?” Slightly concerned and confused, Rudra stares at you while you suddenly break away from him and step back, and you put on a weak smile, but without looking at him. You can’t.
“I’m sorry”, you murmur, “but I can’t breathe anymore, I-I have to go away. I… good night Rudra, good night to you all, and welcome back.”
Not waiting anymore, you run away with all the strength you have left, as fast as you can. You only think about running and leaving behind everything and everyone you can’t have, and eventually you find yourself far enough away from dangerous companies.
It’s for the best, you repeat to yourself: even if you feel your heart aching and the tears drown your eyes, it’s for the best.
Now you have to convince yourself of it.

My journey is all mapped out: a two-week Dracula tour of Europe
Tumblr media
A fun fact about me is that I enjoy planning holidays that I have no intention of taking. So, if I had two free weeks and more money than I actually do, here's the Dracula-inspired journey around Europe that I might consider.
(Spoilers under the cut)
Days 1-3: Whitby
Tumblr media
This is the opportunity to visit all the key Dracula locations, from a coastal walk to Robin Hood's Bay to gazing out over the village and the sea from Mina and Lucy's favourite spot in the graveyard of St Mary's.
In non-Dracula things, Whitby Goth Weekend happens twice a year in April and October. I recommend the Magpie Café for fish and chips.
Day 4: travel to London
Tumblr media
Most of the long train journeys in this plan are delightful overnight sleeper services that will make you feel like you're right there with Jonathan and Mina rattling across Europe. Unfortunately, the journey from Whitby to London is not one of them.
Services are infrequent and the journey takes a solid 5 hours. But the start, where you go very very slowly through the beautiful North York Moors, isn't too bad.
Days 5-7: London
Tumblr media
There's a whole heap of things to see in London on a theme by either Dracula or Bram Stoker:
The Lyceum Theatre, where Bram Stoker worked for 27 years
The various houses that Bram Stoker lived in
Golders Green Crematorium, where Bram Stoker's ashes can be visited by appointment
Assorted Dracula settings, such as those the Harkers visited on their London day trip
I'd also suggest a visit to Highgate Cemetery, which may have been part of the inspiration for Lucy's tomb (pop in on Karl Marx and Douglas Adams while you're there), and the British Library for general literary joy.
Exeter is a 2.5 hour train journey from London, so you could also go there, either overnight or for a speedy day-trip, if you're a completist. But personally I'd skip it and spend the time going to see the Lion King at the Lyceum or a Shakespeare play at the Globe instead.
Day 8: Paris
Tumblr media
The characters in Dracula take a number of different routes to get across Europe, but I've gone with the route that the Crew of Light take as they go to hunt Dracula down in his home.
That means following the Man in Seat 61 guide for travelling from London to Romania by train, taking an early Eurostar to get yourself to Paris. You'll only have a few hours in Paris before the evening sleeper train, but it should be enough to visit Père Lachaise Cemetery, where Oscar Wilde is buried.
Day 9: Vienna
Tumblr media
You'll arrive in Vienna around 10am, then have the day to spend there until another evening train. Personally, I'd spend the time visiting the Hofburg Palace and Sisi Museum; Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) of Austria was famous in the late 19th century and her tragic life story feels fitting for a Dracula tour.
Yes, this plan involves fast trains crossing multiple European countries without much of a breather. Just like they do in Dracula :)
Day 10: Cluj-Napoca
Tumblr media
Note: I've visited all the other destinations in this guide, but never been to Romania, though I'd really like to go to Cluj in particular. So from this point on, this is based on googling, not first-hand knowledge.
Cluj, referred to by the German name of Klausenburg in Dracula, is the unofficial capital of Transylvania. Your sleeper train from Vienna should get there around 8.20am, in time to hop on a tram to the Old Town's cluster of breakfast places. I've been told that Cluj is a lively, student-y city with great nightlife and festivals.
Days 11-14: Romania
Tumblr media
Time to explore Romania! At this point there's a decision to make. On the one hand, there's strict adherence to the settings of Dracula, in which case you'll want to head to Bistrița, or maybe even extend your journey on to Varna or Galați.
On the other hand, you could go more on vibes. In which case, hire a car to drive through the remoter parts of Transylvania, then turn south to Bran Castle, which has very little actual connection to Dracula but certainly looks the part.
-------
In the unlikely event that anyone actually does this journey off the back of this post, please let me know how it goes. I'd be so thrilled to hear about it!
