year of the spider was one of my moms car binder cds, and i also happened to fixate on it Super hard as a kid so i demanded that she play it quite frequently

picture me, 6 years old on the way to dance class, singing along to stupid girl and kill the music industry in the backseat of the car

fun memories. that cd is scratched to shit now but i keep it as wall at cuz damn it is a pretty cd tho

man the kincourse really disheartens me more and more every time I catch a glimpse of whatever new development has happened therein bc I feel like I'm losing more and more of the ability to define my feelings or even have words to identify them with. I don't even really know what to call myself anymore. I liked the term alterhuman bc I thought it sounded nice and it felt vague enough for me (in the same vein as queer) since I've never really been able to identify what it is that I am. To be honest I don't think this particular walk of life even has a definition for me at all. I know there's something there, but... I've never really gotten anything out of the "kinmunity", so to speak, aside from the very basic knowledge of the concept of non-human humanity.

Idk i didn't really have anything meaningful to say I just wanted to kvetch. It is a very lonely and lost feeling to be unable to identify yourself, even to yourself. 😔

If it makes you feel any better, we understand how you feel. None of us even consider ourselves alterhuman, or otherkin, or therian, or anything adjacent anymore-- because it feels much like, at least in our personal experiences, that these terms have moved significantly away from “useful descriptive labels that convey an identity and experience” to “labels that align one to communities with specific politics/rhetoric that contain unspoken assumptions & potentially uncomfortable connotations.” We feel like even though we fit the “basic” definitions in their broadness, community understandings abound the terms have shifted too far away from our personal experiences for us to feel comfortable using the terms.

I’m truly sorry that you feel lonely and lost. I know what helped the host of our system sort out similar feelings was to make their mark in the sand with personally crafted words and essays that are based on their experiences of nonhumanity, focusing wholly on themselves and posting about their experiences for individuals to potentially talk about the ways in which they relate in their own experiences. It’s probably classifiable as a bit over-the-top in its own way, but maybe something similar could help you as well?
