Griffin Dunne as part of a massive photo spread in Vanity Fair titled "The Newest Wave", as part of the magazine's April 1998 issue. This photograph was taken by the legendary Annie Leibowitz in the lobby of the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood on January 23, 1998.
The text in the photo reads:
"It takes more than overarching personal vision and knowing when to break for lunch to make a real movie director. It requires mastering a stare that shows you mean business. A
100-yard stare that cuts through bull, silences the crew, and says to a recalcitrant star, I don't care how messed up you are, come out of that trailer! Arrayed before you are directors, in various developmental stages of their leadership ability. May the best stare win.
Clockwise from left: Katja Von Garnier (Bandits), Nick Cassavetes (She's So Lovely), Gary Fleder (Kiss the Girls), Kevin Smith (Chasing Amy), lain Softley (The Wings of the Dove), Boaz Yakin (Fresh), Mimi Leder (The Peacemaker), Griffin Dunne (Addicted To Love), Mark Christopher (54), Mary Harron (I Shot Andy Warhol), Atom Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter), and Julie Davis (I Love You...Don't Touch Me!)."

The sixth and penultimate costume of "Death Defying Feats" (Season 3, Episode 1) is Phryne's beautiful mermaid costume, complete with sequin scales, shimmering chiffon wrap, and gold jeweled turban.
A whimsical nod to a siren, Phryne's costume consists of a sequin halter-top bikini with a wide strap across the back, with the point of the bottom piece connecting at the center of the top. The lower half is covered with sequinned scales with a green silk backing on each. The entire ensemble is made with antique luminescent sequins and gold lurex, with a sea green metallic thread combined with antique gold metallic thread creating the binding on the edges.
"To create a 'mermaid' you must research the fabric. I designed a piece that had scales, when Phryne swam the scales went up and down, they moved like a fish." - Marion Boyce, Series Costume Exhibition Catalogue
Adding to the underwater effect is Phryne's blue-green chiffon wrap, finished with the same sea green and gold metallic thread edging. It attaches at the center of the bottom with a simple tie and loops around her wrists to create the illusion of waves. She finishes the look with her gold lamé head wrap, seen previously in 1x03, with a bow created from green crystals.

Best of 2023 - TV Series
I think I watched over 50 TV shows this year and most of them were great which means, the making of this list was hard and took me a few days and I'm still not sure about the order.
01. Deadloch - Season 1. - "Welcome to the Tasmanian town of Deadloch! It’s the site of a simmering culture war between the blue-collar, old-school residents and a recent influx of lesbians who’ve put the place on the map, bringing performance art and gourmet nose-to-tail dining with them." - Vanity Fair
Tumblr media
02. The Woman In The Wall - Miniseries - "People think that this couldn't happen again. Then they forget that the last laundry closed in 1996. It wasn't medieval times. The f**king 'Macarena' was in the charts." - Philippa Dunne
03. Nolly - Miniseries - "This show follows Nolly through the very public sacking and its fallout, and paints a sympathetic and adoring picture of the woman behind the headlines. Bonham Carter sails through this as if on the campest of clouds, but also beautifully articulates the grief behind the glamour. Nolly is part of the old guard, the oldest of guards in fact – she was the first woman ever to appear on colour television. " - The Guardian
04. The Newsreader - Season 2.
05. Heartstopper - Season 2.
06. Mood - Miniseries - "Like Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag and Michaela Coel’s Chewing Gum, Lecky’s Mood started life as a one-woman show on the London stage; she debuted Superhoe at the Royal Court in 2019, with the Standard describing her performance as “a revelation”. That’s probably where those comparisons should end, though, as Mood is a very different beast, and not just because of the aforementioned musical interludes. The darkness in this story isn’t necessarily mined for laughs (though our deadpan lead Sasha can be savagely funny, just like some of her brutal song lyrics) and there’s a real sense of precariousness at its heart." - Evening Standard
07. Workin' Moms - Season 7.
Tumblr media
08. Blue Lights - Season 1.
09. The White Lotus - Season 1. and 2.
10. Ted Lasso - Season 3.
11. Starstruck - Season 3.
12. The Following Events Are Based on a Pack of Lies - Season 1. - "The show touches on some serious themes around abuse, misogyny and gaslighting, but it is so compelling because it doesn’t forget how much fun there is in the art of the con." - The Guardian
13. The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart - Miniseries
14. The Night Agent - Season 1.
15. The Dry - Season 1.
16. Foundation - Season 1. and 2.
17. The Change - Season 1. - "Bridget Christie writes and stars in The Change – her sitcom debut – as Linda, a much put-upon wife, mother and retail worker who reaches a crisis point at her 50th birthday party. It’s not just the menopause. It’s also the cluelessness of her husband (Omid Djalili), the open disdain of her teenage children and society’s general denial of the full humanity of older women that pushes Linda over the edge." - The Guardian
18. Sex Education - Season 4.
19. Fleishman is in Trouble - Miniseries
Tumblr media
20. Slow Horses - Season 1. and 2.
21. The Last of Us - Season 1.
22. The Fall of the House of Usher - Miniseries
23. Fisk - Season 1. and 2. - "You can tell Fisk is an old-fashioned sitcom just by looking at it. That goes beyond Fisk’s awesome brown pants suit; the visuals here are firmly in service to the story (and to the jokes) rather than feeling like a cinematographer’s audition reel. The locations are basic – an office, a café, Fisk’s temporary Air B&B home – and filmed in a straightforward way that never detracts from the comedy. For audiences used to expensive production values and flashy locations this may take a little getting used to, but the effort is most definitely worth it." - ScreenHub
24. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - Season 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
25. The Diplomat - Season 1.
26. Gen V - Season 1.
27. Secret City - Season 1. and 2.
28. Severance - Season 1.
29. Wolf - Miniseries
30. The Crown - Season 5.
31. Shrinking - Season 1.
32. Three Pines - Miniseries
33. Beef - Miniseries
Tumblr media
34. The Sixth Commandment - Miniseries - "Evil characters can be just as one-note and boring as the good, but Hardwicke manages to infuse Ben with such a disconcerting blend of calculation, charm and quiet, almost hidden glee in the harm he inflicts that it is impossible to look away. You will want to. It is harrowing." - The Guardian
35. Swarm - Miniseries
36. Bodies - Miniseries
37. The Long Shadow - Miniseries
38. Wellmania - Miniseries
39. Boat Story - Miniseries
40. The Morning Show - Season 3.

@quickdeaths asked: [ cherry ] what is one thing you love about yourself? + [ canary ] do you have pets? if yes, how many and what? + [ olive ] what gives you the most inspiration for your muse(s)? + [ mauve ] give one random headcanon about your muse / one of your muses.
Colourful Interview (Munday meme) - Accepting!
Tumblr media
[ cherry ] what is one thing you love about yourself?
These questions are never my favorite because it's awkward to brag about anything in my family unless it is professional/career success, but in contrast to a lot of my extended family, I'm very determined to succeed that way but on my own terms. A lot of my family rests on their laurels, so to speak, and feels they don't really have to work hard to be well-off and successful. But I've worked my way from the ground up at my job and while I'm not satisfied with where I'm at right now (and can do much better), I can still say I did it myself.
This is in contrast to extended family members being terribly puzzled why I simply can't 'summer in Tuscany' this year, or spend all of fall exploring wineries throughout France. No, I have a full-time job with health insurance, a 401k, and limited days off but I've earned them with my own hard work. And I'm proud of that (and used zero parental connections to get hired in the first place).
And in a slightly vain love: my fashion sense is on point and my friends know that if they want my opinion, I will not sugarcoat it for them. It's not easy to dress a plus-sized body with decent fabrics, cuts meant for my size, and not have it look like a fast fashion disaster or something a retiree might wear.
[ olive ] what gives you the most inspiration for your muse(s)?
Probably the best answer is what doesn't give me inspiration for my muses? Ha. And it's mostly things like fantasy literature/TV/movies (Game of Thrones would be the obvious example, but other things similar to that), video games, and most anime/manga interpretations of royalty. While they're fun to read, they don't really help cultivate the vibe I've always wanted to write for Sonia and her family, which has always been rooted in historical fiction, biographies, documentaries, contemporary fiction of royalty and upper classes in general, and news/current events. Not that there's anything wrong with the fantasy royal route: it's just not my thing.
But otherwise here's a few things:
Books: From classics written by Jane Austen, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Edith Wharton to more contemporary offerings from Dominick Dunne, Julian Fellowes, Tom Wolfe, and Kevin Kwan...I read. A lot. And beyond romance novels of all sorts, rich and/or royal problems are my particular literary interest. Ironically, the reading list that the character Corinna provides Kitty Pong Mrs. Bernard Tai in China Rich Girlfriend as part of her 'Appeal to old Hong Kong money crash course' is a good start. (Mild spoiler for book series that's been out for years, but still)
TV/Movies: Split between historical dramas (of comedic and less-comedic varieties), documentaries, and contemporary dramas most of the time. Considering how both quiet luxury and mocking the super rich are both trending right now (ahead of the likely recession), it's hard not to watch things like The Menu, The White Lotus, and Succession for some inspiration. Otherwise, everything from Downton Abbey, Bridgerton, The Gilded Age, and The Great to The Royals, Gossip Girl, Elite, and The Crown is up for fair game. I watch some Asian dramas too, but often more contemporary than historical for inspo. And plenty of royal documentaries (and I'll probably be watching King Charles III's coronation live, too).
Publications: Tatler (and I've mentioned it IC, too!), Town and Country, and Vanity Fair especially. But I look over gossip magazines as well for scandal inspiration.
Royal websites and social media: Yup. These too, for a variety of royals. Great for checking out social diaries, charity ideas, etc. For the fan questions Sonia and her family are asked? I follow royal confession and shitpost accounts for inspo. I had no idea there were so many people who diligently tracked when and where pieces of various crown jewel collections are worn, but they exist.
Real life: And finally, some of my ideas/plots/headcanons come from people and situations I know and/or experience personally.
[ mauve ] give one random headcanon about your muse / one of your muses.
Going to piggyback off the last question for this, but one of my headcanons for Sonia's younger cousin Sam (Prince Samuel of Novoselic. His father, Prince Arthur, is the King's younger brother. And a duke in his own right, alongside being a giant headache for a lot of people, Sam included) is that he learned how to fly a plane before he learned how to drive a car. This was an acceptable hobby growing up for him, as it would allow him to serve in the national air force for mandatory service required of all Novosonian royal men. But mostly, he wanted to learn because he could blissfully block out all of the family stress and squabbles thousands of kilometers in the air.
In the clouds, no one cares about the royal line of succession, net worth, who's who in the peerage, who went to which school and knows which person, who runs which charity, etc.
It's just him (and an instructor, and a bodyguard), the controls, and the sky.
This headcanon and the reasoning for it are based off of someone I know very well, and while they don't know I included this in one of my OCs for Sonia's family (hell, they don't even know I RP), I'm happy to honor them in this way.
Maybe after I eventually write the whole "Royal Residences" headcanon post I should work on a Sonia's family tree headcanon post
[ canary ] do you have pets? if yes, how many and what?
Ah yes, time to pay the pet tax!
Yes, I have one cat of my own. This is Molly, aka. Princess Molly, the true ruler of the house and my life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is a formerly feral buff tabby tuxedo girl, thus the notched ear. A rescue organization saved her from a cat colony when she was six months old, holding her own against a bunch of adult cats. I knew she was the cat for me at adoption day when she tucked herself into my arms and hissed at kittens and human children alike.
I like kittens, but I've got no interest in having human children of my own, so we really are kindred spirits.
Molly enjoys: sunny spots, windows, seafood feast, chicken feast (but only if the chunks are mushed up by me or my husband with a fork before presenting it to her. She doesn't like the pureed version: only the chunks but further pureed by hand), quiet, solitude, sitting on my belly while I read, watching the electric kettle come to a boil, my leather shoes and handbags (the higher the quality, the better to rub her face on), heated blankets, watching British dramas, grooming herself and her parents, sleep, ordering her mother and father around.
Molly dislikes: noise, anyone besides her mother and father entering the house, when her mother and/or father leave the house (they may not be coming back!), closing the bathroom door so she can't supervise shower and/or toilet time, stompy feet, salmon, turkey, coughing, sneezing, other cats, dogs, children of all sorts, people, cleaning her perch mats, when her catnip toys lose their flavor, and Amazon Alexa.

the amèlie bergstein renaissance: it's her world and we are just living in it. it's easy to judge when you don't know anything behind the camera, especially when talking about such a cultural icon, but she knows more than anyone how it is to go from the rags to the riches.
born cindy dunne, she was the first child of jane dunne, who was barely 18 when her daughter was born. though she doesn't recall her father, amèlie claims to be of Italian ancestry by his side. she had a younger brother, johnny, whom she spent her childhood taking care of due her mother's troubled nature.
"i don't remember if there was ever a time where my mother wasn't drunk around us. nowadays i kinda understand her: she was very young and alone. it doesn't justify, but... anyway, with lots of men arriving and leaving the house all the time, i learned from a young age that if I had something that people wanted, especially my body in this case, i should give it with no fight. i carried this mentality to my time working in los angeles and new york, part of why it took me so many years to realize that, essentially, the film industry works in an unethical way for women. i always thought it was, somehow, fair of them, because that's what i believed while growing up. you want my body for something? alright. you want me to sleep with this director so I can be in the picture? great. just take it, actually, don't even ask. to this day, i stil struggle believing that nothing that happened to me was my fault, because i never felt particularly ashamed when those things were happening."
she only attended school time enough to learn how to write and read. bergstein ran away from home after her stepfather started to sexually abuse her regularly, hitchhiking until arriving in new york, a place she thought where people wouldn't mind her young age and lack of education. she was introduced to the acting world by her first husband, alan foster, who was 41 at the time and an upcoming filmmaker. they got married in 1974, when amèlie was only 15.
"i'd be on the side of the road, waiting for any truck to pick me up. i didn't have to wait for a long time because i was very young and my face definitely showed it, even if my body didn't match my age. those drivers obviously wanted something in exchange, and never once i blinked because i just thought that's how the world was. that's how i arrived in new york, at 13, almost 14. i met alan on the streets, he was looking for young girls to film a doccumentary about runaways. it's weird, obviously, but how would i know? i remember he was very kind to me, and started showing up everyday and paying for all my hours, so he'd have time to film me more. after two weeks of that, i guess, he said if i married him i'd sleep safe and in a nice house. so i did. a friend of him signed the papers as a my mother, allowing me to marry him. i know it was wrong, you don't have to look at me like that, but he was very nice, alright? things could have been a lot worse."
she has thirteen acting credits as cindy dunne, mostly playing risky teenagers. however, she began calling herself amèlie bergstein by her husband's suggestion, when foster said to think of real name as too common. she claims to have decided her artistic name alone. her first credit as amèlie bergstein belongs to kids in hate, one of alan foster's first movies and also her first leading role. though it had a poor critical reception, kids in hate received a good response from the public and helped launching amèlie's career. she instantly began to appear in more movies and even started to work in television. due to her rising popularity, she divorced from foster in 1976, at 17, to avoid possible scandals. in 1979, she was described in an article for vanity fair as "the most promising star of the decade."
"you know, my first roles were always topless girl, hot girl next-door. when i started doing tv, i had a regular character in one of those soap operas, and she was an innocent hillbilly who lived so far from the cities that she didn't know the men were harassing her all the time. she'd wear tops and tiny shorts. now it's bittersweet to remember that, because i know they were making fun of me. then they decided i should become a little more polished and started giving me other roles, but i was always the hot girl somehow. and i loved it, truly. it was the only time people paid me attention, so be it. i was condemned to be the gorgeous and sexy woman for the rest of my career, and it's a role i play quite well. that's who i have been for my all of my life, actually, so i don't know how to be anything else even in my personal life. i can be jogging, someone will pass by me and i will think 'i bet i can shock them if i start walking in a sexier way'. in the last few years, i've decided to accept, maybe embrace a little, this huge part of me. i'm far from being the perfect victim of the industry, that's the truth."

The latest hire to President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign is no stranger to the White House: he was ousted from there two years ago for allegedly threatening and sexually harassing a reporter.
The former White House deputy press secretary, T.J. Ducklo, resigned in February 2021 after allegedly telling then-POLITICO reporter Tara Palmeri in an off-the-record call that he would “destroy her” over an investigative story into the potential conflict of interest in his relationship with Axios reporter Alexi McCammond. Ducklo also allegedly sexually harassed Palmeri with explicit accusations of jealousy.
One of Palmeri’s editors reportedly informed the White House about Ducklo’s remarks, prompting conversations with senior-level officials including then-Press Secretary Jen Psaki and senior advisor Anita Dunn. Vanity Fair reported that White House officials criticized Palmeri for disclosing Ducklo’s remarks because it was an off-the-record conversation.
The incident occurred on Inauguration Day, the same day that Biden promised while swearing in appointees that disrespectful behavior was a fireable offense.
“If you’re ever working with me and I hear you treat another colleague with disrespect, talk down to someone, I promise you I will fire you on the spot, on the spot. No if, ands, or buts. Everybody — everybody is entitled to be treated with decency and dignity,” said Biden.
Yet, the White House only suspended Ducklo over the incident. Ducklo resigned a day after.

Fake news about children “identifying” as animals is the latest stunt being pushed by so-called parental rights advocates.
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2022/05/furries-republicans-lgbtq-midterms-schools.html
“The current misrepresentation of furries—that they simply want to be animals and are sexual deviants—dates back decades. Both Dunn and Joe Strike, another furry historian and community member, recalled an infamous 2003 episode of CSI that, in the words of another furry documentarian, “portrayed the community as a community of sexual deviants who like to have sex in fur costumes,” despite the fact that such fetishists “probably represent about 2 percent of the fandom.”Strike also pointed to a 2001 Vanity Fair report on a furry convention that served as the basis for many public commentators’ impressions of furries as people with animal kinks, even as furries themselves claimed that piece “painted the community in a completely false light,” per BuzzFeed News. In 2002, a short MTV documentary aired that made furries seem like people merely interested in ribald group sex, and users on the influential Something Awful forums piggybacked off such perceptions to smear furries as pedophiles and zoophiles. (That a significant number of furries identify as LGBTQ likely added to the misrepresentation, with homophobia coloring the portrayal of this subculture in the media.) Still, Dunn told me he’d never seen furry “accusations being levied at children” before now. Nor had he seen anti-furry outrage to the degree “to where it seems to be overtaking school districts and a lot of political discourse.” After all, you can also find newly stoked disputes about furries and schools in the U.K., Canada, and Australia.“

"One night in 1969, I was at a party at Tony Curtis’s, his rose garden was lovely. As I remember it all these years later, there were gravel pathways between the beds of roses and boxwood borders. At one point that night, I went out into the garden — and there was Sharon, all alone, walking on a path by the white roses in full bloom. She was pregnant, and dressed in something white and billowing. It was like a scene in a movie, watching her. She made me think of Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby.
Since she had become Mrs. Polanski, I hadn’t seen her as much as I had when she was with Jay. We talked about old times at the barbershop and the marvelous turns her life had taken. She was joyous about having the baby, and she had never looked more beautiful. She spoke with fret affection about Jay, and told me that he had become a family friend to her and Roman. There were rumors that all was not well in her marriage, but no such thing came up in our conversation. The baby seemed to be the solution to everything. I have always remembered that little interlude, because it was the last time I ever saw her. As always, she was dear, sweet, and utterly nice. After awhile we went back in to the party. Sharon Tate has never faded from my thoughts, either."
