yourusername WELCOME BACK, SISSY (and hockey) FANS! my best friend, CAPTAIN QUINN HUGHES played his first preseason game tonight and he sure made an impression!

firstly, he got the third penalty of the game and first penalty for the canucks in the first period! it was for holding against hyman of the oilers, and to say i was laughing was an understatement. that was top notch comedy, bestie, thank you sm for keeping me employed

and secondly, QUINN SCORED!!! he got his first (preseason) goal as a captain, AND the first goal of the game during the second period! it was a power play goal, and leon draisaitl (he’s shown in the last pic of this post) was the criminal that made it so! shoutout to him!

i’m sorry you didn’t win, but you played a beautiful 24:10 minutes (most for the canucks, third most overall) and almost won the overtime race against leon’s boy toy, mcdavid!

and lastly, i want to address mine and quinn’s son cole! he got his second penalty of the preseason 3 minutes and 23 seconds after his father! and they both looked dead inside <3 like father, like son! (ps shoutout to petey for also getting a penalty!) (there were ten total penalties!)

Not after they specifically went into queer safe spaces and told queer fans that they were "paranoid and crazy" and "should seek help" for not trusting them to not kill off Lexa, because they said they wouldn't! How could we even question that?! *Stares at the fucking camera* Not after them pretending to be mad over "leaked" scenes from their love scene getting onto the internet when we all know good and goddamn well they leaked that shit themselves to fucking bait us into watching live for maximum shock and pain. Not after they did everything within their power to trick Clexas into watching 307 live, touting it as such an amazing episode and literally begging everyone on Twitter to ~not spoil such groundbreaking work~ for others, only to kill her literally 2 minutes after finding happiness. Like seeing her die was some kind of ultimate prize. (Special shout out to Clexa Archive for posting it The Second it happened. Absolute OG MVP move.) And not after luring fans to Vancouver to watch the finale being filmed to show them that YAYYYY Lexa was there!!! Giving them false hope that she would be brought back somehow, only to kill her a-fucking-gain.

They used her time and again in the show, referenced her and tried to bait back viewers with mentions and flashbacks and drawings and whatever other manipulative bullshit they pulled. Having God!Lexa not be Lexa-Lexa was just the final slap in the face of 4 long ass years of them treating us like shit. It was the period on a sentence that had already long been written.

I think the only thing that might've been different would've been the new and fun ways the fandom took it and ran with it and turned it into something 1000× more brilliant and heartfelt and interesting than whatever piss poor writing job they'd have come up with, because that's what we always do. But do I think it would've changed the overall sentiment? No. Not for Clexa OGs at least. Not for the ones who lived through that shit. Fuck them, fuck JRot, fuck that entire show. I'm glad it's dead. The only things about that entire shitshow that'll be remembered in the longrun are Lexa, Clarke, and Clexa. Because of us, the fans. The show itself will fade into obscurity and be forgotten. As it should be.

halloween is a celtic festival, it was brought over to the americas by scottish & irish immigrants. you might be thinking of the phrase "trick-or-treat" which is definitely canadian?

I was referencing the gif that called Halloween an "American holiday" but I probably should have made it more clear that I meant in the sense of "in the Americas".

But modern Halloween as a whole is, as far as we have evidence for, a Canadian invention. One of the earliest mentions of people dressing up and going door to door is in 1898 in Vancouver:

though there are earlier mentions of Halloween in Canada dating to at least 1820.

By 1910 in Winnipeg, we have the first recorded evidence of Halloween being widespread, as Halloween candy buckets were being advertised:

Halloween pranks were first reported in an 1898 Vancouver newspaper article saying that Halloween pranks would not be a problem that year.

I finished this program last night. I’m officially a Certified Menopause Coaching Specialist! I really enjoyed this course and will likely be referencing the material for years to come. There was a lot to learn! The textbook is massive and so in-depth. The course contains 18 units with videos. There were exams at the end of each unit to be completed online. It wasn’t rocket science but some of the information I’ll need to re-read because there’s just so much and my poor brain won’t retain it all. I feel proud that I powered through and finished it. I’m looking forward to getting my certificate in the mail. I also got my CEC’s to renew my Personal Trainer certification, too.

I’m still working on the Home Herbalist program through one of our local colleges. There’s 8 projects in total. I plan to submit them all at once. I hope to complete it over the next few months.

Today, I went to the Cancer Agency to meet with the pharmacist and talk about my new chemotherapy.

Capecitabine (Xeloda). I’ll have to take 4 pills (1300mg) - twice a day, 12 hours a part with food for 2 weeks and then I get a week off. The pharmacist gave me a lengthy handout of all the side effects that could happen. Mostly focusing on the common ones: hand-foot syndrome, diarrhea and fatigue. I was supposed to start them tomorrow morning but I asked if I could wait until next week for 2 reasons:

1.) I just want a few more days to not feel like shit. My energy has been at its highest (in probably a year).

2.) If I happen to get a reaction, I don’t want to be running to the ER on the weekend.

The pharmacist was totally okay with that.

Then I had my port flush and grabbed groceries.

Exciting stuff.

My kinesiologist appointment was cancelled because she was sick. So that will be rescheduled at a later date when she’s feeling better. Maybe. Otherwise, I’ll just create my own program and kick my own ass. One less appointment to think about.

Friday I have my comedy class so I’m going to work on some jokes. I plan to do a show in April in Vancouver but will hopefully get to do some local open mic’s prior. …We shall see how I feel.

The plan for tonight is my book and tea. I got a loose tea called “After 8” and it smells just like the chocolate.

This is an older interview with Jared Padalecki and Nicholas Knight from the Supernatural Magazine issue #2 (Feb/Mar 2008), pages 10 to 15. [x]

"Another reason why Padalecki felt at home so quickly is his relationship with Jensen Ackles, who plays his onscreen brother, Dean. It's common knowledge that both of the actors are from Texas and that certainly helped them relate to one another, but it's their personal relationships with their siblings that truly set the foundation for their relationship. 'I have an older brother and a younger sister. And Jensen has an older brother and a younger sister as well', Padalecki points out. 'My brother and I are super close. When Dean and Sam get along, that's how my brother and I get along. We definitely tease each other. My brother and I will rib each other all the time, but there are no punches thrown. It's pretty laid back'.

'I think the reason Jensen and I got along so well was because we really didn't go about bonding', Padalecki continues. It didn't feel like a blind date. It felt like we were continuing a relationship as opposed to saying 'Alright, we're supposed to hang out with each other, so let's go play Basketball or something.' We just sort of hung out. It was really lucky. We just hit it off immediately. There's no rhyme or reason to what happened.'"

"Whenever Padalecki does get a rare free moment, enjoying the sites of Vancouver isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. That honor goes to his family, who are much too far away for the actor's liking. 'I remember I had a conversation with my father one time, and he said, ‘Well, can’t you just call me for five minutes?’ And I was like, 'I don’t want to just call you for five minutes. If I’m calling my father, I want to talk to you for a while. You know what I mean? I want to know how your life is going and I have a good hour conversation at least.’

You act for free- you get paid to wait.’ In a 14 hour work day on set, you're waiting a lot, but you can't just go running around like a chicken with its head cut off. You have to keep in character, and you use that time to try and make the scene better, not make phone calls and stuff. So, when I’m working. I definitely put everything else on hold.”

That “everything else” includes Padalecki’s love life, although the actor still tries to see his longtime girlfriend, Sandra McCoy, whenever possible. “She and I visit as much as we can," he discloses. “I'll come back to L.A. on the weekends, or she'll come up to Vancouver. But it’s not as easy as it could be.” Padalecki and McCoy met on the set of the movie Cry Wolf. And while they enjoyed working together at the time, they have differing views about repeating the experience.

"I’d [like to], but I think she probably doesn’t feel the same. I think she’s like, 'You do your thing. I'll do my thing.’ It’s definitely not as easy as it was when I was on Gilmore Girls and living five miles away from her, but we make it work. Spending time with his girlfriend, chilling with his friends and family, hanging out with Ackles… all these things take time away from something else that Padalecki bves - sleep. “I really like to sleep,” he chuckles. ‘That's the first thing that comes to mind because that’s what I’m most deprived of! I remember I used to watch my father go to sleep watching television and I was like, ‘How can you sleep? It’s not even dark in here.'"

"For Padalecki, keeping in shape isn't the most challenging aspect of working on Supernatural. “It’s definitely the green screen.” the actor states. It’s one thing to sit and talk to somebody and have a conversation - I’ve done movies and plays where you’re performing a monologue, and that’s always easy. But when they say, ‘Right, look at this wall. This X mark is the face of a visual effect that we haven’t made yet. so you're just going to have to imagine something scar>’ - that’s definitely the hardest part. It’s not like pulling teeth or anything. but it’s definitely weird. I always find myself thinking, ‘I hope they make this thing look scary because I’m going to act scared, so I hope they don’t sell me out."'

Of course, behind the scenes of a show like Supernatural, it would only seem natural that strange things would happen, and Padalecki confirms that there are inexplicable things going on in the shadows. ''You always say, "Oh. It's just a breeze.'” he laughs. “But I remember one time we were filming an episode called Skin, which is one of my favorites. We were filming in this house, and there was a clock on the wall and it just fell off and everybody was looking around and all the crew guys were like, ‘All right, back to work.’ When things like that happen, you just don’t want to look any further into it, you know?"

I mentioned a bit ago about how I bought a DVD of the movie Brother Bear just so that I could watch the version of the movie with the commentary by the two moose characters (played by Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas). Well, I just rewatched the commentary for the first time in a while and wanted to share my own personal highlights.

“What is that, wasabi paste?” “You gotta spend less time in sushi bars and more time studying anthropology.”

“Is that Antonio Banderas?”

“Did you put a record on?”  “No it’s called a soundtrack.”

“I got one of those at a giftshop at the Vancouver Airport.”  “That’s called an omelet.” (Item being referenced is in picture below)

“Bears make pretty good lifeguards.  They can swim, they can climb, they’re knowledgeable about CPR.”

"In considering such archival images as traces of encounter, contemporary historians would of course seek to adduce more evidence about the meanings of such events for the participants, in this case both British and Hawaiian, situating these events in their time and place. From this perspective, the rituals of diplomacy, the expectations of the various parties, the knowing and unknowing ways in which these events were described, would all need to be investigated. The same is true of the many other examples of the art of encounter in Linton Palmer’s albums. From an art historical perspective, such imagery would also need to be carefully contextualized with reference to matters of style, genre and perspective. In many cases, as I have argued, the influence of the naval tradition of maritime view-making is clear. However, there is another way of seeing these visual archives, especially when encountered from a heritage perspective, in which the informational content – the documentary detail – may matter even more than the point of view.

In order to substantiate this final point, we should return to Linton Palmer’s Fort Victoria sketches. Fleeting views they may have been, but in their attention to detail – whether the rendering of the hair and adornments of the people he encountered, or the material evidence of Indigenous presence in the landscape – such pencil sketches by naval visitors sometimes record what other contemporary documents do not, and in ways that can be located precisely in space and time. The matt lodges around the Fort, the cedar plank houses across the harbour, a fishing station in the distance: all these features signal an active Indigenous presence at a particular moment preceding a disastrous era in the history of the Indigenous people of what became British Columbia. Since they were first made available to First Nations historians following their exhibition in a 2009 RGS-IBG exhibition (Hidden Histories of Exploration), Linton Palmer’s images have entered the visual archive of Indigenous history and made more widely available in digital form. In particular, they have been incorporated into understandings of local settlement history by Grant Keddie, a curator at the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria. As Keddie’s work indicates, there is an ‘archaeological’ way of reading such documents, cross-referencing with other sources of evidence about the precise geography and chronology of landscape change. As is clear from the contemporary significance of the Indigenous sites sketched by Linton Palmer, such work is far from merely of academic interest. In 2001, 150 years after the brief visit of HMS Portland to Fort Victoria, a claim was filed in Canadian courts asserting that the land on which the Parliament of British Columbia was built (near the original Fort) had originally been occupied by or promised to First Nations peoples. After a long and contested legal process, the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation eventually reached an out of court settlement with the representatives of the Esquimalt and Songhees nations, which has been valued at $31.5 million dollars. In this context, mapping the precise geography of Indigenous settlement in space and time mattered a great deal: in fact it truly was the multi-million dollar question. And in the process, as researchers and consultants pored over long forgotten maps and drawings not unlike Linton Palmer’s sketches, the visual archive of travel acquired a new value." - Felix Driver, "Material memories of travel: the albums of a Victorian naval surgeon." It is entirely possible to live in the same house as someone and never see them naked. If your roommates are walking around the house in the nude, you might want to re-evaluate your living situation. If you're regularly walking in on people in situations where they're naked, you may want to re-evaluate your relationship with privacy.

However... if we use our big-person brains for a second, and add together some context clues from the post you're trying to catch me out on, I am completely under the impression that Cockles is 100% real as a sexual and/or romantic relationship, and so yeah, they probably did see each other naked in their Vancouver apartment.

Let's point those context clues out...

The first big one is the tag "they totally be fucking though".

There's also the part you've referenced "I don't believe that to be true" which when taken after the "I don't care if [they've] never actually seen each other naked" implies that I very much DO believe they have seen each other naked.

This was meant to be a simple post about the softer points of the JenMish relationship; the parts that make our hearts melt a little, the parts that make us want what they have. It was also maybe a little bit to encourage some people to be a bit crass in my tags, or to mention some of their fave moments.

Somehow, instead I have had people completely miss the point I was trying to make. Maybe you're all trolls. Maybe you all need to work on your reading comprehension. Maybe you just need to keep your cockles opinions on your own cockles posts.

TLDR; Cockles is real. Jensen and Misha fuck on the regular. But they also respect each other as human beings in ways that many of us will never experience.

All About River City

This post is for anyone interested in knowing more about River City and/or why I chose it as the setting for my latest and last story in my "A Few Sparks Before The Fire" JaySteph fanfic series. *Spoiler Free*

Why River City?

I wanted this story, and Jason and Steph’s case, to be outside of Gotham so I could isolate them and build on their romance away from the rest of the Batfam. I also wanted to find a city without a lot of canon content so I could play a bit with worldbuilding as I’d like to write a non-fanfic story someday. When looking up various cities in the DC universe I came across River City and noticed it fit my criteria for a somewhat blank canvas. Outside it being the home base for a minor character from back in the day, Odd Man, and a one-time random meeting spot for a Jimmy Olsen storyline, it seemed like a great sandbox to play in. It also has connections to Gotham as an older version of Odd Man and his daughter, Debbie Stoner, are involved in the Mother Panic comic.

Where is River City?

Based on the connections mentioned above I assumed it was close to Gotham, relatively speaking, but in the Jimmy Olsen comic he mentions it taking him all day to get there. In this regard I decided to go with headcanon and say it’s somewhere between Gotham and Metropolis (and if it took Jimmy all day, then maybe he took the bus and the bus broke down somewhere along the way or his flight had lots of connections and delays). Trenton, New Jersey is the approximate distance marker I’ve used in the story, since it’s near the Delaware River (a “river city”) and would be somewhere between Gotham and Metropolis if we’re saying Gotham is in southern New Jersey and Metropolis is near NYC (though I know it’s previously been in Delaware). 

So is River City a fictional Trenton, NJ?

No. River City is not a substitute for Trenton as that’s just one reference I’ve used. I’ve also referenced bits and pieces of other nearby cities like Philadelphia and New Brunswick, NJ. Most of my references are for climate, architecture, and imagery for my own creative musing as well as the promo postcard image for the story along with a few other things. Basically, River City is its own fictional place and that’s why I picked it as it can be whatever I make it while still having a general base as a small city on the east coast. 

Who are the characters in River City?

For the sake of the mystery I’ve created a bunch of OCs, though there are a few easter eggs for known DC characters connected to River City. Anyone else not from canon is completely made up. Maybe they’re suspects, friends, allies, enemies, all or none of the above. Again, this is me stretching my creative and worldbuilding legs. Also, any names, likenesses, etc. not associated with DC comics are completely made up and not in reference to anyone living or dead. So my apologies if a name pops up and it’s your name or someone you know. They’re random and I tried to come up with unique names and names that immediately don’t pop-up as someone famous or well-known in a Google search. 

What’s River City like? Is it more like Gotham, Metropolis, or someplace else?

You’ll just have to read and see. What I will say is that I wanted it to feel a bit cozy. It’s not as big as Gotham or Metropolis, thus no real superheroes in town, but I wanted it to feel big enough to be spread out. One reference that is often in my brain is Central City from the CW series ‘The Flash’. Minus whatever opinions of the show one might have, I really liked the cozy feel of what was created on that show, especially Joe West’s house and later Barry and Iris’s apartment in the city. So yeah, that’s the vibe. Also, I know a lot of that show was filmed in Vancouver (on the other side of North America), but hey… vibes.

Will there be more fics set in River City?

At this point, I don’t know. I don’t have any real plans for revisiting River City, except for one, but that’s a bit of a spoiler for a future series. As mentioned above, River City is me having fun doing some worldbuilding and playing around with Jason and Steph in a new place for the holidays.

Robson Square, Vancouver (No. 3)

Typical of Erickson's designs, Robson Square is constructed primarily out of concrete, but softened by its environmental design. In addition to the water features are trees and other flora as well as gradually inclining stairs with an integrated ramp. The open design allows for relatively unobstructed natural light and fresh air, and the waterfalls divert from the noise of downtown traffic. Landscaping on the project was designed by Cornelia Oberlander.

This public square has been highly utilized due to its successful design. As referenced by William H. Whyte, plazas need specific elements to unlock the potential of an area for proper utilization and enjoyment. The Robson Square experience is considered successful, from a designer's point of view, because it follows Whyte's Street Life Project guidelines. The complex was completed in three stages at a cost of $139 million. The provincial government offices were finished first in 1978, the Law Courts the following year, and the renovation of the old provincial court building into the new Vancouver Art Gallery was completed in 1983, a decade after the design was started.

As of November 23, 2009, Robson Square has been reopened following a multimillion-dollar reconstruction project. Its reopening can be directly attributed to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler. Robson Square provides the only public outdoor skating rink in Vancouver—and is free to use.

The rink area is used in the milder months for various public events including Ballroom & Salsa dancing, and is also the hub for Vancouver's Street Dance community since the late 90s. As noted above, the skating rink is open in the winter; admission is free and skate rentals are $4.00.

Even weirder that HE's been spotted many times this whole time alone or w/Dodger, family & friends but nothing with her. // I’m struggling to think what “many” sightings are being referenced here? I can recall a few off-the-set solo sightings of him over the last year, but not many. Re: your similar point not spotting them in friends’ pictures or posts, can you think of any photos that his friends or family have posted this year which feature even just Chris (no Alba)? Cause I can’t.

On the other hand, there were alleged sightings made by a journalist in Lisbon in May, and a Twitter sighting of him in Vancouver in June, but these are often discounted because they don’t fit people’s theories. Tara followed Alba in late June and commented on one of her posts in July. Chris was filming from late August onward, and we know Alba was in ATL beginning in September because of the yoga course (as much as people will protest otherwise). Earlier in the year, we know her IG location was in the US for all of February / part of March. (Yes, I acknowledge knowing all this overkill. It’s why I take weeks-long breaks from Tumblr. 😆)

I dunno, I’m curious about examples of the holes you see in the timeIine cause I’m not seeing them tbh. The only one I can maybe see is Shanna’s wedding, but if I were in Alba’s shoes I might’ve sat that event out so as not to steal thunder. Imagine the fandom abuse Shanna could’ve gotten following such a joyful day, or the news articles a couple sighting might’ve spawned. I can see if they decided Shanna deserved not to have her day overshadowed that way.

Not trying to be combative at all, by the way. Y’all know I think the PR theory is bogus, but that doesn’t mean I’m the authority on the relationship timing. I’m genuinely trying to understand what others are seeing that I’m not.

There actually were a few photos of him in friend’s posts from this year where he is pictured and she isn’t there. But on the reverse side of that, I think these photos all came at the same time she was knowingly preoccupied with other things. Examples: Tara posted a photo with him from his LA home before The Gray Man premiere. His friend Chelsea posted a photo from a mutual friend’s wedding over the summer plus a golf outing. I think Scott’s boyfriend Steve also posted some cute photos from the Lightyear premiere to his story. I remember thinking it was sweet he was still invited along to join the family even though Scott couldn’t be there. But I believe all of those line up with the same time she was doing Mrs. Harris press?

I also think it’s entirely possible for her to had visited him while he was filming and go essentially undetected. I really don’t think she’s very recognizable to the public at all.

The only issue I have with the Vancouver sighting is that it apparently took place in a mall? Unless I’m confusing that with some other sighting. I just feel like if he was in such a public place that at least someone would have snapped a picture that would have ended up on twitter or something? It’s so hard to know when sightings are real or not anymore when there are so many trolls running around the fandom these days. I feel like I don’t remember the May Lisbon sighting at all, but I don’t doubt the sighting didn’t happen. So much has happened that it’s easy to lose track of. I was also doing a huge home renovation at the time, so I was only occasionally popping in to see what was going on, and I’m sure I missed things because of that.

I do think it makes sense that she didn’t attend his sister’s wedding if they were together. If anyone remembers, I actually played devil’s advocate back then and pointed out that it didn’t make sense for her to fly in when they wouldn’t be able to spend time together. He literally flew in for that weekend only and went right back to filming. He was also a part of the wedding party. Anyone who has been in a wedding party knows how busy you are the entire weekend. There really isn’t much time to spend with a significant other if they’re also not in the wedding party. It’s essentially only part of the reception and that’s it. If she had flown in, they barely would have had any time together that entire weekend between the festivities and returning back to set. So if they were together, I don’t find it odd that she didn’t go for that reason alone. But I also completely agree with you about not going to avoid stealing Shanna’s thunder. If she was there and had been spotted, it would have been articles galore about Chris and Alba. I just can’t see him being the type of person to steal the spotlight from Shanna on her big day like that.

Where I get a little stuck on things is the photo we received of her over the summer with another man. While it doesn’t prove she was dating that guy, it’s still pretty close for two people to be if one of them is in a relationship with someone else. I certainly wouldn’t be happy with my husband if he was wrapped around another woman that way. He’d have a lot of explaining to do 😂 that’s the one kink in the story I can’t really get past. It’s what makes me wonder if they only casually saw each other for a while before making things official? But that’s also a theory of mine that could be wrong. But long story short, late spring through summer is where I see potential holes in the relationship. But it could simply be explained away as them both being busy or us just not being entitled to see every moment they’ve spent together. I think that’s a concept a lot of fans tend to forget about. Just because we want to see them together, doesn’t mean we’re entitled to that.

For the most part, the longer this all lasts, the more I’m inclined to think it’s all real. Specially when she and her friend group pop up and it isn’t being used for PR in any type of way like this year’s NYE Vermont trip. People love to argue that “PR is for the fans to see, too!” but it’s really not. PR is for the public and it’s something that’s very blatantly obvious. You shouldn’t have to follow private accounts of friends, friend’s significant others, and whoever else in order to connect the dots of them being in the same location. I think there are a small handful of PR theories that make sense, but a majority of them are so out of this world I don’t even know what to say about it. I really don’t. I honestly wonder if people hear themselves sometimes. The idea that absolutely everything that happens is part of some elaborate conspiracy theory in order to control a narrative is a bit much for me, personally. That’s when I wish people would truly log off and spend some time in reality to hopefully be able to see some of this with clear eyes and an open mind. Or at least be able to hold respectful discussions about it all. And I also don’t negate the fact that this really could be both. A real relationship that will be used for PR when it suits one of them best. Anyway. This was super long and I feel like I’ve rambled on and on. Sorry! 😂🦎
