✩🐉🛡Review:
Victoria Aveyard absolutely outdoes herself when it comes to “Blade Breaker” and it’s ending.
In this sequel to the “Realm Breaker” trilogy, Aveyard gives the reader the opportunity to explore the Kingdoms of Ibalet, Trec, and Madrence. We are made aware of their differing cultures, values, and monarchs through alternating viewpoints, which is something that I appreciated. One such monarch that Aveyard acquaints the reader with is Isadere, the King of Ibalet’s Heir and Lasreen’s Chosen. Isadere identifies as neither male nor female and uses they/them pronouns, providing necessary and important non-binary representation in young adult fantasy. I absolutely love Isadere’s character in “Blade Breaker” because of their unique abilities gifted to them by the goddess of death and life. I look forward to seeing what role they will play in the final installment of the trilogy!
In addition to getting to know new characters, the reader is exposed to a new side of certain members of the Companions. For instance, Aveyard allows us to see a crack in Sorasa’s mask when she shares the reason for her exile. The ruthless assassin’s vulnerability humanizes her, making her feel all the more real and relatable to the reader.
While Sorasa opens up to her newfound friends, Erida shuts down. Her trust in others (aside from Taristan) disintegrates as she embraces cruelty and sheer villainy. I enjoyed reading from her point-of-view and sympathized with the root of her frustrations, but as the saying goes “two wrongs don’t make a right.” In this case, conquering the realm may not be the solution to all of her problems like she thinks it is.
Corayne’s slow development from young girl to soldier across the first two books was also fun to follow. I particularly appreciated Aveyard’s choice to make her a novice swordsman rather than a skilled warrior. Her progress is more realistic this way.
Because Aveyard spent a lot of time establishing the world of Allward in “Realm Breaker,” I expected more action sequences throughout “Blade Breaker.” In actuality, this was not the case. As previously mentioned, the band of Companions spend time in multiple Kingdoms. Thus, the majority of the book chronicles the travels of the Companions as they move from spindle to spindle. While the build up is slow, however, the reader is ultimately rewarded with two epic battle scenes in the last hundred pages before being hit with Aveyard’s most painful cliffhanger yet! I cannot wait to see whether or not the realm will be saved in book 3!

"Is it monstrous to want what is owed you?"
- Taristan, Blade Breaker by Victoria Aveyard
(I honestly didn't know what to expect in this book; mainly because I can't remember what happened on the 1st one and I didn't care enough about the other characters except my ship. Yes, I read this mainly because the Erida/Taristan ship has sailed and I'm onboard and yes, they finally had a moment and I think this is one of the best villain romances I've ever read. The Companions, on the other hand, they were mainly okay (just like from the first one) but I want more from Dom and Sorasa (their duo is just great and maybe it'll turn into something more? or I am just a romantic lol). Corayne and Andry were flat. Also, nothing really happened in this book and I agree with some of the reviews on Goodreads about this being a filler book? The plot is okay but not grand as I would expect it to be; also the end was where things amped up and somehow some pieces were conveniently, idk lucky for the companions? like of course it was and they'll be okay because hello, they're the saviors of this realm and also WTF IS THAT ENDING, THOUGH? WHO ENDS A BOOK LIKE THAT? LIKE SERIOUSLY. 3/5, on to the next book, I guess; because I'm all for Erida and Taristan ending the world and also for our protagonists to save it. Both works for me lol)

Realm breaker character heights? And/or red queen?
pretty please?
Luckily for you someone made graphics for the RQ characters
as for the Realm Breaker characters you should probably ask VA to get anything accurate. What I think: Dom, Taristan, Ridha (rip) and Sigil are the tallest characters, followed by Andry and Erida, then Corayne, Charlie and Sorasa, and finally Valtik. But this is all based on my mental image. Again, if you want the word of god you'll have to ask VA.

Blade Breaker Live Read
CHAPTER 22
If I do not get Eristan fucking this chapter, I’m rioting.
I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THE RIOT IS CANCELED UNTIL FUTHER NOTICE. AT THIS TIME I WILL BE SCREAMING FOR TEN HOURS
FUCKING HELL, THEIF, OBVIOUSLY IS CANCELED. WE NOW WORSHIP:
“That’s what you are, mine.” and “Does that make you mine?”
also, RONIN CAN GET FUCKED ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
CHAPTER 23
I’m very curious to know if there are red flashes of What Waits in Corayne’s eyes. I know she hasn’t chosen him like Taristan but I wonder if in essence they are connected to him as he is to them.
CHAPTER 24
LISTEN, there is nothing hotter than a character yelling at another in their native tongue to stay alive. I want for nothing more.
CHAPTER 25
Someone push the easy button please, that battle felt so short and managed so well XD But also like, What Waits really just sort of let her have the win. That smells fishy, but I’m not sure what kinda fish it smells like.
CHAPTER 26
NOT SIGIL LITERALLY NOT KNOWING THE NAME OF THE MAN TRYIGN TO KILL THEM ALL. I’M DEAD.
Ah, see that’s why they got to close the Spindle..... cause Taristan is off opening his next one XD he’s really out there poking holes in the ship just for shits and gigs at this point.
I don’t know why I was under the impression and Dom and Sorasa would have a relationship that actually builds this book. I WANTED THEM TO HAVE MOMENTS. Their moments have been so small, they are less than crumbs, GIVE THEM TO ME VICTORIA
Tumblr media
CHAPTER 27
JESUS CHRIST. ERIDA. My love... I just have this twisting feeling in my gut that What Waits is slowly twisting her mind, making her more paranoid etc... because tbh she really is so paranoid now.
Tumblr media
^^^ me being a huge supporter of women’s rights, and more importantly, women’s wrongs... but also worrying about Erida on a deep level because she really does feel like a woman on the edge 😬
CHAPTER 28
I LITERALLY LOVE SORASA. She was honeslty like, welp, you wanna leave, you’re gonna have to come take your sword from me, and based off how that went last time you’re not going anywhere any time some. What a fucking QUEEN, a LEGEND.
ALSO: “you’d think I’d be used to this by now.” “Sorasa?” “Death, though I suppose they are interchangeable.”
Tumblr media
THERE IT IS, OH FUCK THERE IT IS. 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 that’s my ship, slowly but surely leaving the harbor... with some holes and definitely sinking a bit, but it’s SAILING.
I’ll allow Corayne and Andry to be a ship for the rest of this stupid chapter just to catch even a GLIMPS of Dom and Sorasa interacting. Crumbs victoria, I’m begging for crumbs at this point.
CHAPTER 29-32
LISTEn, okay listen. It was good, there was so much to unpack. Like, too much to feel/deal with. I mean WHAT am I supposed to do with that ending. But also like... why? Like why did they all split up? I get that it’s supposed to be sort of Lord of the Rings kinda thing but I dont know. Like why did Sigil go back? Why did Valtik take Andry? I get why Dom stayed, and I get why Sorasa stayed, but like... what the fuck of Corayne supposed to do now? Like just sort of hang out? XD
Also, lets all just... take a second to try not to kill victoria over the bury your gays... I’m smelling a fucking pattern, and I don’t like the pattern I’m smelling. I really was sitting there like, um, okay wait what? 😑 I just dont get the whole black knight thing either! It comes out of no where, there is just negative explanation, and then we use this black hole of a plot device to kill off a character that we got in my opinion so little of. Why is did this knight literally leave Ridha dying? I dont understand. It just felt like Victoria tried and failed to pull at my heart strings with that ending. I just sat there going, okay wait what? I mean I guess its set up for book 3 but it feels shaky. The whole ending kinda felt that way. We know so little about Ronin’s “gifts” and Valtik is a black box too. I just, *sigh* am I gonna read book 3? Maybe. I dont know, I need to reassess some things. 😒

The Companions from Victoria Aveyard’s Realm Breaker watch Arcane: League of Legends
Silco and Mel remind everyone of Taristan and Queen Erida
Domacridhan really loves Vander and is really sad when he dies.
Sorasa and Corayne are touched by Vander’s lessons about war, violence leadership and responsibility
Valtik is incredibly fascinated that there is a tiny 300 year old talking dog man
Sorasa criticizes all of the characters decisions. She wants to stab Marcus.
Andry finds that he relates a lot to how chivalrous Ekko is and wishes he could be like him and save a lot of people. He feels heavily for him when Jinx kills his comrades. He takes Ekko’s side during the bridge fight.
Sorasa and Sigil think Vi, Ekko, Sevika and Vander are the only really cool characters because they know hand to hand combat and can kick ass.
All the adults are concerned about the two teenagers in the group when it comes to Silco and Jinx’s father daughter relationship
Andry sees himself and Corayne in Ekko and Powder
Charlie falls asleep during episode 2 and is out like a log for the rest of the night
Andry bursts into tears during episode 3. Corayne struggles to hold her tears back. Both burst out crying during the episode 6 reunion scene.
Sigil loves the soundtrack and gets super hyped up during the bridge fight.
Andry cries again when Ekko sees Powder in Jinx’s eyes.
Sorasa predicted Jinx would pull a bomb on Ekko and criticizes Jinx’s horrible aim when it comes to shooting Ekko. She yells at the tv, “If you really hate his guts, stop hesitating!” not being able to realize they are in love when the group literally has two young hopeless romantics sitting on the couch next to each other. (Andry and Corayne)
The council reminds Andry of Erida’s court
Everyone agrees that Jinx needs serious help
Sigil throws a glass across the room at the episode 9 cliffhanger and wakes up the teenagers who fell asleep while cuddling during episode 8.

Realm Breaker was a really enjoyable ride for being nearly 600 pages. You can tell how much love Victoria put in this massive fantasy world with how descriptive and big it feels. I do hope we get to see more places in this world and do a whole lot of journeying. The map itself is a very gorgeous thing on the end papers, colored and heavily detailed. In fact, it's so almost too detailed that I did struggle at times finding places that were mentioned.
It did feel like the book took a little too long to really start. The prologue starts slowly as well but the ending of it truly ends with a bang. And then, it drags a bit dealing with Andry's guilt and hiding a sword and telling his queen and going to the funeral. Domcridhan at least goes home, gets angry when they don't want to do anything while he also grapples with loss and guilt, before going to find an assassin. Dom's was definitely more interesting, since he's an Elder, but Corayne and Andy, and even Erida, the Gallant queen, in the very beginning of the book just take a little too long to really get interesting.
The moment we meet Sorasa, the book gets better. Sorasa is just an awesome character and I really enjoyed that she's at least thirty years old. Too many save the world books rely on teenagers only and its nice that the majority of the group seems to be adults except for seventeen year old Corayne and nineteen year old Andry. I really thought I knew where Erida was going in her chapters, but when he finally do get Andry, Domcridhan, Sorasa, and Corayne together and seeking help from Erida, I was SHOOK with the direction it went. I didn't see it coming but MAN I love it??? Villain romance??? Sign me up.
I like Corayne but out of the group she's definitely the weakest. I did really enjoy her awe and gawking about at every place they went to. I remember thinking why aren't they at least trying to train her to defend herself a few times before a character finally takes initiative. I enjoyed that she kind of chafes a little at how protective people are of her, especially Dom, but Andry had a good point with her of you're the hope and the only Corblood here.
Domcridhan I enjoyed because as an immortal Elder, Victoria could have gone down the typical aggressive, possessive, arrogant, etc that we've seen before of 500 year characters. But he's just endearingly naive about humans and their customs, and I really do enjoy that he's struggling with this loss and hurt and guilt and anger but its his own. He doesn't take it out on anyone.
Sorasa again an amazing character who is smart and observant, and capable. I love her, she's my favorite. Her bickering with Domcridhan is SO GOOD. I love them and I hope they grow closer together because I ship them HARD. I'm also super interested in Sorasa's past.
Andry Telland is a precious character but ultimately had me wondering a little why he's here. I think maybe he's going to definitely be the heart of the group and the far more compassionate one. The listener and help others with their issues. He's an ex-squire and he took a teapot and after the battle with the sea serpent he made everyone tea. It was nice but I hope we get more of him. It seems like Corayne and Andry might be growing closer so that's interesting.
We get three others but we don't get their POVs. Sigil the bad ass bounty hunter seems really cool. I want to learn more about her. Charlon the forger, accidental murderer, an ex-priest also seems really interesting and they both know Sorasa well. Valtik is an old woman witch who is super mysterious and weird and I kind of love how she disappears and reappears when needed.
The villains are also very interesting to read about. The true bad God or whatever being called What Waits or Him is a little silly, but I want to learn more there. The last POV is Ridha, Domcridhan's cousin and princess, is a little bit boring because all she's doing is riding around trying to get people to fight against the Spindles being open.
The plot of this book is a little everywhere and not really there all at the same time. Taristan, the bad guy, is opening Spindles, aka portals and bringing really bad things to conquer this world for What Waits or whatever. The prologue has a Corblood with a Spindleblade fail to stop him. So the book is half finding Corayne, a Corblood (no shock there), and finding Andry the boy who escaped with the Spindleblade, and then try to get help. And then run from the enemy until they need to close another Spindle. Only blood of Cor and Spindleblade can open and close a Spindle. The whole thing is intense trying to get and close that one Spindle, but I'm not sure I understand how you open and close one. I don't remember her really doing anything except maybe reaching out with her bloodied sword to the Spindle? And it ends fairly suddenly as soon as its closed our girl passes out. And then the villains learn and they swear to kill her.
Overall, it's an interesting start. I hope to learn more about the newer characters, see the seeds of romance start to grow, and see the characters grow stronger. I'm definitely going to get Blade Breaker.

RB2 reading
Ch 15: you know what? an Andry chapter was just what I needed after all that. I consider this a break.
Prince Oscovko being bitter about Erida turning him down 😌 we love to see it. Winterfell vibes btw
Ch 16: see I’ve been thinking all this time how rude it is when the Companions PoVs mentioning how “annoying” Valtik is. Like she’s just running about, bothering no one, singing her tunes, being useful as hell. She’s a gem. Respect your elders motherfuckers. This would not fly in a latino household lmao
Exposing myself so hard by posting this Corayne quote but...
“I just— want to know. Everything. Always. If I know what’s around me, every little detail...”(...)”I guess it helps me feel a little more in control. A little bit stronger. More valuable. It used to at least.”
Tumblr media
And then she reflects on the comfort of the home she can’t return to, bc in that she relates to Sorasa. Wanderers. The transformative nature of the journey has robbed them of the comfort of their places from the past. just fucking stab me at this point, it would hurt less
umm the part with Dom interrupting Sorasa bathing is so awkward omg Corayne you nosy rascal GET OUT and the fact that it is filthy ass water doesn’t sit right with me lmao
Tumblr media
✨Ch 17✨: geesh these Madrentines really hate to see a girlboss winning 🙄
Olenna Lady Harrsing is giving her some solid advice. I hope Erida will listen to her... I mean she prob won’t but 😣
Ch 18: Sigil 💕. That’s all.
✨Ch 19✨: Erida again so soon?? 😍😍
SHE NOTICES THE SAME THING I DID with the red eyes thing. That’s right bestie, What Waits is an Eristan anti. Kill him. Kill the god. Become a god. Fuck your husband.
I BLESS THE RAINS DOWN IN AAFRICAAAAAAAAAA
Tumblr media
WHAT WAITS LA TENES ADENTRO YOUR BOY OUT HERE KISSING THE LIGHTS OUT OF HIS QUEEN TO PROVE HE IS HIS OWN PERSON DAMN RIGHT
Nooo Erida don’t walk away from love 😭😭😭 I have so much serotonin in my body right now this is insane
