1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

To be honest with you when I say most of the ships in 5sos inherently make sense to me even if I don’t personally like them (I don’t like muke at all, I’m so sorry, but I still get it). Like, all of the members are so closely knit that I’m like “yeah, totally makes sense to ship you guys, you love each other to the ends of the earth and back.” There are certain portrayals of the ships that don’t make sense to me. Like a super dominant Ashton figure (even outside of the bedroom / a cold top) doesn’t make sense to me with any of the guys, because I think he’s too sweet on them to ever have the desire to hurt them. A submissive Michael personality doesn’t usually make sense to me in any dynamic. So forth, so on. But I think inherently, depending on how they’re written, all pairings within the band make sense to me. They all have such layered personalities that depending on what component you draw on to write, you can make any of them work.

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?

Oh absolutely. Wow so many people. Like lots and lots of people lol. I just don’t have the time, nor do I have the emotional energy to see opinions I don’t like all the time. I block a lot of people on this app, I won’t lie to you. I have at least twenty people blocked right now. If someone expresses outright dislike of any of 5sos’ significant others, I unfollow them. You can “not be a huge fan” of them without outright disrespecting them and slandering them. If they express hatred of the newer albums tbh, I unfollow them. If they think any of the 5sos slash ships are real, I unfollow them. I block any and all drama blogs I come across. It’s not hard to be decent and respectful, I think. And I just don’t tolerate that detrimental behavior in any way.

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

Well, I came in for lashton only, and I’ve steadily branched out into cashton and cake now lol, but I never really hated any pairings (still won’t read muke). There are just some I’m not as into as others. I’m sure if I read enough, I could like any of these pairings.

7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

Oh this is a hard one!! I’m trying to think if there is something I genuinely enjoyed that the fandom ruined for me. If we’re talking specifically about fanfiction, I used to read a lot more angst/abuse fics in other fandoms, because I really like reading recovery, y’know? I always have. I adore hurt/comfort and I find the mindset of that so interesting and so enjoyable. I want to hear about a character build themselves back up from a point of destruction. But there is very little of that in this fandom (excuse my french) that is even remotely well written. Of course I’ve read some hurt/comfort that is super good here! Genuinely, and I should make a rec list for it tbh. But it’s harder to find physical hurt/comfort in this fandom than any other I’ve been in and so I don’t seek it out anymore. It’s just not worth the let down. If a writer I already like writes it, then I count my blessings but... usually this fandom portrays trauma as very romanticized which I don’t love. I miss reading a good recovery fic. And, if I thought there was a bigger audience for it, haha, I’d write a ton more stuff like Will Be that goes further into recovery than WB did.

26. Most shippable character?

Oh Luke for sure. Is that even a question? It’s Luke. He’s the most popular member of the band without fail in the public eye, he’s the most attractive (from like a subjective point of view, he’s what most young women look at and go “woof woof”), he’s the sweetest. Luke isn’t a sharp or hard-edged personality. He’s not mean, he’s not extremely bitchy. He has an adorable squeaky laugh and it’s so goddamn easy to write him in a more feminine role and most fanfic writers want the more heteronormative roles filled so that means a Dominant personality (which any one of Calum, Michael, or Ashton could play perfectly) and a submissive personality which Luke’s caricature easily slips into.

“We’re going on an excursion,” Luke said. Reggie had to ask, “d’you even know what an excursion is?”.

“Duh. Like and adventure but better, ‘cause there’s an x in there it’s basically extreme,” Luke said and Reggie laughed a little harder than he’d ever admit, “c’mon, we’re on a hunt”. Hunts were yet another one of their rituals for whenever one of them needed to scape their minds for a while.

A hunt was about coming up with a very obscure thing, like a duck-shaped cup or a lamp decorated with snails, and trying to find it.

Reggie groaned with a smile on his face, “what’re we hunting, cap’n’?”.

“A café with yellow walls,” Luke answered promptly as if he’d thought about it beforehand.

Reggie, tired of the constant fighting in his house, escapes to the beach. Luke makes a suprise appearance. A hunt for a café with yellow walls starts and two dorks find each other in the way.

Or, my escapist dream in which peace can be found, with some dudes being bros being gays as a bonus.

Recommended by Anonymous: when i think of “my favorite peterpatter fic”, it’s this one. the dialogue in particular is fatastic, the background details & headcanons are really interesting and nice, and it’s just generally a sweet fic :)

1) How old were you when you first starting writing fanfiction? I don’t remember exactly but it was definitely middle school, probably 7th grade, so probably 12-13

8) Where do you take your inspiration from? a lot of places! I think mostly I get it from things I watch/read (like the first responders au being a product of me watching too much 911 and 911 lone star or the raven cycle au being a product of my love for the raven cycle), but sometimes I get it from songs (the tie me down trilogy). I don’t really get it from real life though tbh. like with 5sos I might take inspiration from real things that they’ve said/done but they seem very far away so it’s easy to fictionalize. I don’t really take inspiration from my life or the lives of people around me except for a few details here and there that I might use to flesh out personalities or situations to have them feel more real

45) What spurs you on during the writing process? My own passion for the project mostly. If I like what I’m writing or I really want it to be finished then I’ll push through. Sometimes it’s because the project is really good and I’m excited about it but tbh sometimes I just want to get it done and out there so I can get validation because I don’t like anyone in my docs during the process.
