I just made a pretty neat realization about Nagisa that separates him apart from the other Warriors of Hope, though it is pretty minor

I think one reason why some people find it easier to sympathize with Nagisa is because you actually see in the present day that he still endures the psychological abuse he took from growing up.

Whether it be Monaca lacing her words because she's fully aware of how devoted he is, or Nagito twisting his brain to make him give up on trying to get Komaru out of town - he's essentially still suffering from the same shit he had to deal with from his childhood, which is people conditioning him to do what they want rather than what he wants by toying with his fragile and indecisive heart since at the current point, he's still kind of trying to pull himself together and convince his own brain that he's doing the right thing.

Even small things like asking "Hey, are we actually sure Masaru is dead because it really isn't confirmed yet" and then being pushed into submission and conforming to what everyone else wants him to believe because Monaca starts questioning his loyalty, which gets followed up by Kotoko and Jataro going "oooh you in trouble now", which I'd imagine is a scenario that's played a lot of times every time Nagisa does something disobedient.

I guess you can kind of attribute this to Monaca too, since she ends up meeting with Haiji again later on and she's still despised by him after all these years, but I don't really think Monaca cares at that point.

As for the other three Warriors of Hope? Unlike Nagisa who still has to unknowingly relive the psychological torment he already had to go through in the form of people he genuinely wants the best for, the other Warriors of Hope don't really go through that same experience that they already went through again. What you see are effects of what they've become because of their trauma.

Masaru feels the need to be a hero and protect the kids no matter what stands in his way because of how he already had to take so many beatings from his dad (which translates into how he thinks he should discipline himself when he gets nervous; beating his arm until it's a bruised mess). He can't help himself to be anything but strong-armed and brave in his own childish way.

Jataro's mental abuse has shaped his entire worldview and mentality of what he thinks is his reality. That people hate him and think he's disgusting, and since he straight up can't see the world another way, he lets himself get hated because he's convinced that's his only form of coping. (Which funnily enough: Nagisa is the only one that actively challenges his philosophy considering he actually cares for him and wants Jataro to grow. My boy's such a good fucking kid (who has committed so many atrocities), man.)

Kotoko caps it off by people controlling and forcing her to do so much disgusting and horrific shit onto her, to the point she has a trigger word; it all plays a role in what she is today. From her personality to the random, needless and gross one-off side comments she makes on occasion, to her desire to hurt 'cute girls' the same way she was hurt because she wants to feel that sense of control that she didn't have in her life when confronted with adults.

All of these are cause and effects - the trauma is the cause, and who they are now is the effect. What they went through doesn't still 'happen'. But Nagisa? Not quite. Nagisa grew from a household that tried to make him an emotionless subject that abided to whatever his parents wanted that would use inhumane means to wear his spirit down whenever he tried to show resistance.

And yet, in spite of it all? Nagisa's a pretty fuckin open-minded and independent kid capable of thinking for himself. He acknowledges a ton of perspectives when he makes his decisions and says his words. He's aware Junko was using him, but he's fine with that since he'd rather it be her than an adult that's done nothing but hurt him. He's aware of how helping Komaru escape would hurt Monaca's feelings and go against her plans (and not in the way he thought it would too), but he chooses to do it anyways because in his mind, Komaru's literally been getting rid of his friends one by one and he needed to take her out of the equation. He knows that there are innocent casualties in the war that he's fighting, but he pushes it off of him by justifying it as "nobody stops to save the good people in a war anyways".

And it's been said multiple times before, but despite his love for Monaca, him being cool with adults dying, and how he wants a children's paradise? He's constantly trying to think for himself and consider his options (including being willing enough to talk about his trauma and how they became the Warriors of Hope to adults, the exact same people he's afraid of).

And despite how many times people try to make him into a no-questions-asked emotionless tool, he still has emotions. Only Warrior of Hope that shows even the slightest bit of guilt and resent for the fact they're killing people. Only Warrior of Hope that even tries to question Monaca's decisions (and again, that's IN SPITE of him loving her more than anything).

To summarize? From the very start of his life, Nagisa was trying to be made into nothing more than an abiding guinea pig that did whatever he's told at 100% efficiency and proficiency. But somehow, someway, he's able to repel all of that and able to grow into a person that can actually think for himself and not just be content with conforming to what people want. At least; initially. Because the sad reality is that no matter how hard Nagisa tries, one way or another, he's always being manipulated into just giving in to what other people want him to be/do. It started from his childhood and it still happens, until Monaca finally breaks him and makes him do her bidding, no more questions asked.

The Teens New Life Of Hope

My Danganronpa UDG OC Hikari Naegi -> ( ヒカリ ) ( 苗偽 ) as a teen, she is the younger sister of Makoto Naegi in a different universe.

Along side are the new reformed Warriors of hope. Nagisa Shingetsu, Kotoko Utsugi, Masaru Daimon, And Jataro Kemuri.

Years later after the events of Udg Hikari Naegi the warriors try to start a new life without crime or killing. while also still healing from the horrors of their childhood and the awful acts of murders they cause in Towa city.

Author note- I will also show art posts of what happen before this new era, I know im going out of order here before my fanfic is done but its gone take me a long time to finish it and i just cant hold on to my art and story ideas for too long( also IRL stuff as well).

I will do character bios for them, I just need to write them out when I eventually have the time.

Nagisa / For those who love his cowlicks he will still have them but when he sleeps or goes swimming. in my headcanon he would gel them down to look more serious.Though i am looking a good english voices claim for him as a teen, if anyone has good recommendations possible voice claim(s) that could work i would love to read them in the comments.

Jataro / While he wears his mask at school and in public he doesn't mind taking it off in his room or being alone his friends. Voice claims for him are Armin Arlert from Attack on Titan and Japanese claim is Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia.

Masaru / Was aiming for giving him the teen protag Shonenjump look( like naruto or something lol) Though I am looking a good english voices claim for him as a teen, if anyone has good recommendations possible voice claim(s) that could work i would love to read them in the comments.

Kotoko / For her trying go with a mix of girly/punk/lolita Fashion, I think her current voice actress can still be her claim, but if anyone has good recommendations possible voice claim(s) that could work i would love to read them in the comments.

random despair sisters fanfic concept

okay but imagine a sort of silly dark humor fic called “welcome to cruel school” where instead of leaving with her classmates at the end of danganronpa IF, mukuro goes back to find junko in the control room and admits that while she’s definitely a despair sister, she doesn’t quite understand how to properly fulfill her role as an ultimate despair. merciful and saintly as always junko puts herself in the running for sister of the year by deciding to take pity on mukuro by teaching her the doctrine of despair instead of cutting all contact and relishing in the misery of the only child lifestyle like she’d originally intended.

mukuro has no idea what to expect for her despairing curriculum but she sure as shit isn’t expecting junko to stick her in an elementary school classroom with the warriors of hope for after school study sessions. it’s bad enough that she’s there in the first place, hunched over a desk three sizes too small in a room with five children, but to make matters worse, junko’s star pupil, monaca towa, is eons ahead of her in the despair department and is, to her great dismay, junko’s favorite. after about a month of staring at monaca’s stupid little lettuce head and willing it to explode, mukuro is finally given an opportunity to shine when junko assigns them all the task of drafting up their own hypothetical mutual killing game.

only mukuro’s draft doesn’t stay on the page and she ends up attempting to host her own mutual killing game to graduate from this class of fifth graders and to prove to junko once and for all that she really is deserving of the ultimate despair title.
