This morning Battleship Texas Foundation, Valkor Energy Services, and Gulf Copper plan to undock the Battleship Texas. This hours-long process will start at roughly 4 am. This operation is incredibly dependent on weather conditions -tide, current, and visibility. As of right now, there is very dense fog, if the Galveston Pilots do not have sufficient visibility, the discharge will be delayed until the next suitable tide and current window.
With over 700 tons of steel renewed on the ship and hundreds of thousands of man hours put into making the hull substantially watertight, we have great confidence that today will be successful. Once this 112 year old hull goes back into the water we will be subjecting her to an extended evaluation period while the ship remains in the shipyard.
I combined all three videos posted on their Facebook page.

I bought these plans almost a year ago but only recently acquired the parts and completed the build. The Texas has been a museum ship since 1948 and is currently undergoing major hull repairs in Galveston, TX. I have visited her a few times and was fortunate to participate in a drydock tour this past March. It’s not every day you can walk under a battleship.
This is random but I really want to tell you about this lol: have you ever went to the USS Alabama Memorial? It has a few war planes on display (they tell you what types in the website too!) + a super cool battle ship you can actually go into! Like levels and you can keep going down the stairs and see what each room was used for!

Here’s the website if you wanna see what it’s about lol, but cool story about it- while I was there. (Can’t remember if it was permanent or was just a temporary exhibit) but they had one of those old civil-war era submarines there lol.
Anyways just a really cool place I thought would be cool to share :D
i've sadly never been! despite having been in 'bama a couple times, i've never been south enough to witness the 'mighty a'. the closest i have to her is the uss lexington (cv-16) in corpus cristi and the uss texas (bb-35), both of which i've been to several times! cv-16 is a carrier museum ship while bb-35, like the alabama, is a battleship. if i'm ever in the area i'll have to give her a visit <3
A heavy German coast artillery shell falls between USS Texas (BB-35), in the background, and USS Arkansas (BB-33), while the two battleships were engaging Battery Hamburg during the bombardment of Cherbourg, France, 25 June 1944
