1. Researching Your Audience

Twitter is no different from any other social media site, building a persona of your audience is important for growth. Think of a persona as a profile of your audience. Knowing your current or desired audience is a method to know what to post to get there. Let's say you're an Artist, is your audience learning to draw? Are your audience veterans in drawing? Are your audience just fans of your artwork? These three questions are just a few questions you should ask yourself, already you may see how they could change what you post. Looking at your analytics will help to show you what kinds of posts your current audience likes the most. Whether the current posts are what you want your audience to like is a different story.

"Where do I start with building a persona?" I'm glad you asked! You ask questions and lots of them, such as the ones we explored above, to be more specific. With that said even questions like, "What would they eat?" could prove beneficial depending on the desired post you want to make. The questions you ask yourself shouldn't be answered by you though, they should be answered by being in the mind of your audience. There are many different persona-building type worksheets you can use, even Twitter has one! I do think these are great to use for starting but there are other questions you should ask yourself regarding your specific case, desire, business, etc.

2. What to Post?

"I have a persona, how does this help?" Let's go back to being an artist, the artist found their current audience prefers posts about learning. That's easy, you want to post more tutorial-like content right? Yes, but that doesn't mean you should limit yourself. You want to be as appealing to as many people as possible without losing the primary audience you have. "How do I do that?" is a difficult question, is it not? This is where being somewhat creative help, think outside the box to accomplish your goals. For example, the artist, may post a final piece and encourage their audience to draw their version of the piece and, in return, the artist could give them some constructive criticism. They're promoting themselves as an artist but still helping their main audience in the same tweet.

"What if I don't want that initial audience?" First, you want to be transparent in any changes you have in your postings, whether it's major or minor your audience deserves to know. You may see a drop in followers but don't be alarmed, some will continue engaging with your content! There is nothing wrong with changing the content you produce, but you should have a general idea of what you want to do for your content long term. Major changes, later on, could lose a huge chunk of followers and/or engagement the longer you had your audience. You should ultimately post things you enjoy creating and posting, your audience will notice the difference.

Formatting your post is another key skill you need to have. Twitter is more likely to show your post if it has custom media attached to it. This doesn't mean a post without media won't do well, but it is a lot harder to get engagement with those types of tweets. Twitter isn't doing this because they don't like text, they do this because the majority of Twitter users pay more attention to post with media attached. Think about it for a minute, whens the last time you read a tweet with only text? Do you even remember seeing any? Most of you probably don't remember any, but you probably remember the last bit of media you have seen.

3. How many posts?

You know what to post, now how many should you do? Well, this is completely up to you, but remember to stay within your abilities. Not everyone has the same energy to post every second of the day, know your limit and keep to it. Having one tweet a day is better than going a week without anything! Keep in mind you should keep your post consistent daily if you don't have time every day to make a post for noon, either don't do it or schedule your tweets. There is a such thing as too many tweets as well, you don't wanna flood your audience with tweets. Remember to write down any ideas you may have, and if the idea is still in your head that's pretty good telling that it's even better.

"I have to find the sweet spot! When should I post though?" This all depends on your audience, does your audience work a 9 to 5? then posting around 10 am probably won't get any views, but posting around noon would. Generally speaking posting around 8 am, Noon, and 6 pm and after are the best times. This doesn't mean posting any other time isn't effective, it always depends on your specific case and audience!

4. Twitter Specifics

Most of what I mentioned so far has been very generic. "So what specific things should you do for Twitter?" Generally, only Twitter knows what or what not to do, so everything said here is more from personal experience. Including links in your post is a poor move, Twitter tries to hide these to keep people on their site. Having every possible tag in existence is also not a good move, I'm not sure why specifically but these are found to have the worst performance than ones with 2 major tags. I feel it's a way to block bots in some way but I have no proof or confirmation of this. Try to experiment with your post, doing one post and seeing it fail doesn't mean it's a bad post. Try posting similar content at different times, and on different days. One is never enough evidence of anything. Remember to interact with the community you're involved in, and reply to the people that reply to you! The most important thing anyone can do is have fun with your post.

5. Is there more?

There's always more to anything that people want to "master", but whether you wanna learn more depends on your drive to succeed on any social media. You may have noticed how most titles of each subject are generic, this was done on purpose. Every social media has a slight difference between these, but generally speaking these work for anything with of course minor or possibly major changes.

"Why should I listen to some nobody?", I have seen this coming or I wouldn't have mentioned it. Most if not all of what I mentioned in this is publicly known with a little bit of googling. I encourage everyone to do their research no matter if they believe my words or not. Seeing people improve and enjoy what they are doing is what I love to see!

"So why write this entire thing? You know people won't read this right?", Yes I know about both of these. I like helping people no matter what the case is. If only one person reads this and benefits from it, then it's a win. If no one read this, I still enjoyed writing this document and that's what counts no matter your medium. If your draw/paint, Streaming, make videos or write anything that you dislike, your audience does notice this.

The Business Model

One thing I love about being an independent agent is that I largely have a choice on how I do business, provided I am smart enough to take full advantage of my employer(s) compensation plan, adhering to compliance in marketing and advertising, and making enough money to both take care of myself and grow my business.

Currently, I feel as though I’m maximizing the last category, but there are opportunities to improve in the first two categories. So, the purpose of this post is increase my professional exposure, by becoming a little bit more transparent about the business model I use, my general approach, and the type of content you guys can expect on here.

Introduction Letters

I work on a personal introduction basis, usually opening with either a letter (like my last post) or a handshake and an exchange of business cards. This personal style of doing business makes it really to filter out who I’d like to do business with since it always boils down to me asking the following five questions:

Has anyone endorsed or nominated this entity?

Have I ever introduced myself to said entity?

Do I have enough information to write an introduction letter?

How should I deliver the letter?

How should I follow up?

As long as the answer to the second question is yes, I compose and deliver the introduction letter, once the letter is delivered, we move on to the first step.

Step 1: Gathering the Facts

The first step centers around gathering the facts and feelings about the person while laying the foundations of our relationship. During this step, the goal is to begin regularly meeting the person face-to-face, gather both the facts and their feeling regarding their financial situation, and obtain a nomination: the approval of the suspect from a trusted advisor.

Usually, a face-to-face meeting is a video call unless the prospect lives close enough to visit at some point throughout the week. Personally, I love in-person business meetings since you have the advantage of eating or drinking together, and I've learned to apply that to virtual meetings, and it's one of the reasons I still dress up and go to coffee shops or restaurants even if the meeting is not on-site.

Step 2: Completing the Financial Analysis

The second step, once enough information has been gathered, is to complete the financial analysis worksheet, and to complete a written report that contains multiple packaging options for the potential client. The goal of the report is to explain the advantages AND shortcomings of the different packaging options while offering the client a choice.

Think of the packaging like a starter Pokemon, where the different packaging options all have similar value, yet appeal to different personality traits.

For example:

Packaging A: $54,000 Whole Life Insurance

Packaging B: $25,000 Whole Life, $200,000 Term Life

Packaging C: $500,000 Term Life

All the options would have the same annual premium, yet vastly different payout amounts and requirements. The first option offers the lowest payout, but the payout is guaranteed. The second option offers a higher payout but only a smaller portion is guaranteed, and the third option offers the highest payout but neither the payout nor the premium rate is guaranteed, and its likely that the premium will increase over time, assuming the client wanted to maintain the same level of protection.

Step 3: Regular Face-to-Face Reviews

The final step is continuous, yet a little more nuanced. At it's core, the third step is just repeating the first two steps. There are a few different scenarios that we call "Automatics", or scenarios in which we automatically reach out to the client to schedule a meeting. Some examples are a birthday, anniversary, birth, death, graduation, in addition to inquiries and client requests.

What I love about this step is that its about more than just selling or presenting different products to the client, but it's all about deepening the relationship and serving not just the client, but the communities in which the client is a part of. This is what ties everything together.

Closing Statements

One of the hardest parts about launching a career in any industry is how easy it is to get distracted in the beginning, at a point where it's critical to build the persona required to sustain client builder activity.

The persona, is the key. In my opinion, the persona of a financial representative is that of a person who is groomed, well dressed, and chooses their words carefully.

With that, I feel that while this post is not enough on it's own to give a person a full picture of what I do, I don't think that's the point. I feel as though its enough to give a person an idea, which can be built upon (or deconstructed) as our relationship continues to develop.

There are as many specializations within digital marketing as there are ways of interacting using digital media. Here are a few key examples of types of digital marketing tactics.

Search engine optimization

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is technically a marketing tool rather than a form of marketing in itself. The Balance defines it as “the art and science of making web pages attractive to search engines.”

The "art and science" part of SEO is what’s most important. SEO is a science because it requires you to research and weigh different contributing factors to achieve the highest possible ranking on a serch engine results page (SERP).

Today, the most important elements to consider when optimizing a web page for search engines include:

Quality of content

Level of user engagement

Mobile-friendliness

Number and quality of inbound links

In addition to the elements above, you need to optimize technical SEO, which is all the back-end components of your site. This includes URL structure, loading times, and broken links. Improving your technical SEO can help search engines better navigate and crawl your site.

The strategic use of these factors makes search engine optimization a science, but the unpredictability involved makes it an art.

Ultimately, the goal is to rank on the first page of a search engine’s result page. This ensures that those searching for a specific query related to your brand can easily find your products or services. While there are many search engines, digital marketers often focus on Google since it's a global leader in the search engine market.

In SEO, there's no quantifiable rubric or consistent rule for ranking highly on search engines. Google and other search engines change their algorithm almost constantly, so it's impossible to make exact predictions. What you can do is closely monitor your page's performance and make adjustments to your strategy accordingly.

Content marketing

As mentioned, the quality of your content is a key component of an optimized page. As a result, SEO is a major factor in content marketing, a strategy based on the distribution of relevant and valuable content to a target audience.

As in any marketing strategy, the goal of content marketing is to attract leads that ultimately convert into customers. But it does so differently than traditional advertising. Instead of enticing prospects with potential value from a product or service, it offers value for free in the form of written material, such as:

E-books

Newsletters

Video or audio transcripts

Whitepapers

Infographics

Content marketing matters, and there are plenty of stats to prove it:

84% of consumers expect companies to produce entertaining and helpful content experiences

62% of companies that have at least 5,000 employees produce content daily

As effective as content marketing is, it can be tricky. Content marketing writers need to be able to rank highly in search engine results while also engaging people who will read the material, share it, and interact further with the brand. When the content is relevant, it can establish strong relationships throughout the pipeline.

To create effective content that’s highly relevant and engaging, it’s important to identify your audience. Who are you ultimately trying to reach with your content marketing efforts? Once you have a better grasp of your audience, you can determine the type of content you'll create. You can use many formats of content in your content marketing, including videos, blog posts, printable worksheets, and more.

Regardless of which content you create, it’s a good idea to follow content marketing best practices. This means making content that’s grammatically correct, free of errors, easy to understand, relevant, and interesting. On the other hand, running social media ads on Instagram may be better for your brand if you run a B2C focused on younger consumers.

Because social media marketing involves active audience participation, it has become a popular way of getting attention. Pay-per-click marketing

Pay-per-click, or PPC, is a form of digital marketing in which you pay a fee every time someone clicks on your digital ads. So, instead of paying a set amount to constantly run targeted ads on online channels, you only pay for the ads individuals interact with. How and when people see your ad is a bit more complicated.

One of the most common types of PPC is search engine advertising, and because Google is the most popular search engine, many businesses use Google Ads for this purpose. When a spot is available on a search engine results page, also known as a SERP, the engine fills the spot with what is essentially an instant auction. An algorithm prioritizes each available ad based on a number of factors, including:

PPC ads are then placed at the top of search engine result pages based on the factors above whenever a person searches for a specific query.

A native ad gets around this bias by offering information or entertainment before it gets to anything promotional, downplaying the "ad" aspect.

It’s important to always label your native ads clearly. Use words like “promoted” or “sponsored.” If those indicators are concealed, readers might end up spending significant time engaging with the content before they realize that it's advertising.

When your consumers know exactly what they're getting, they'll feel better about your content and your brand. Native ads are meant to be less obtrusive than traditional ads, but they’re not meant to be deceptive.

Influencer marketing

Like affiliate marketing, influencer marketing relies on working with an influencer–an individual with a large following, such as a celebrity, industry expert, or content creator–in exchange for exposure. In many cases, these influencers will endorse your products or services to their followers on several social media channels.

Influencer marketing works well for B2B and B2C companies who want to reach new audiences. However, it’s important to partner with reputable influencers since they’re essentially representing your brand. The wrong influencer can tarnish the trust consumers have with your business.

Marketing automation

Marketing automation uses software to power digital marketing campaigns, improving the efficiency and relevance of advertising. As a result, you can focus on creating the strategy behind your digital marketing efforts instead of cumbersome and time-consuming processes.

While marketing automation may seem like a luxury tool your business can do without, it can significantly improve the engagement between you and your audience.

Final Exam Reflection

1. We took the metro line 5 to Boulevard Voltaire in the 11th arrondissement which was an interesting site to visit as it was very close to Place de la Republique which we visited a few days prior. This boulevard begins at Place de la Republique and ends at Place de la Nation, spanning 2,850 meters (1). There are many streets that intersect with it, making it a major roadway in the city that houses a variety of shops and restaurants. We walked down this boulevard while going to the next metro station starting at Place de la Republique and used it as an opportunity to look at the shops and the people that walked along the sidewalks.

2. In the 6th arrondissement, we searched for the sundial. We followed directions based on the location given on our worksheet, putting it into google maps and also our RATP app. When we were walking, I was looking around enjoying the scenery, and I noticed some interesting art on the buildings. Eventually, our directions told us we had passed the sundial’s location. Confused, I looked up a picture of the sundial online so I knew what exactly we were looking for since I wasn’t even sure what a sundial looked like. When the pictures came up, I realized I had already seen it on the buildings we passed and thought it was just some weird-looking art. We backtracked and were able to find it on the corner of a building next to a restaurant. Upon further research, we found out that Paris has 120 sundials, and Salvador Dalí designed this particular sundial as a present to his friends who owned a boutique at the address number 27 rue Saint-Jacques (French Moments).

3. After taking metro 5 to the Jardin de Plantes was very easy to find in the 5th Arrondissement, as it was just 900 feet from the Gare d’Austerlitz station. Inside, the Garden was very large and all the sites seemed spaced out. Overall, the Jardin de Plantes contained 11 gardens, 6 main places to visit within, and even adorable cafe stands scattered throughout. From additional research, we learned the garden's main attractions include its beautiful gardens (of course), library, exhibitions, gallery, and zoo that was founded largely due to the animals brought from the Palace of Versailles (2). Since we were instructed to find the zoo specifically, we found a map near the front gates and discovered “Menagerie” which refers to the collection of wild animals, and followed the signs posted from there to locate the zoo’s entrance. While the garden itself is free, it does cost 10-13 euros to see the zoo animals. Inside, the Jardin de Plantes Zoo houses around 150 different species of animals, including some of our favorites: kangaroos, flamingos, and snow leopards (2)

4. From Boulevard Voltaire, we took metro line 4 to Saint Sulpice church as we searched for Rimbaud’s “Le Bateau Ivre”. We walked through a square in front of the church to a side street with a large wall that the poem was written. This poem spans 300 meters across a wall written in large lettering with the author’s name being displayed twice near the end of the poem (2). The poem is one-hundred lines long and tells the story of a sinking boat and reflects the struggles of Rimbaud himself in his career as a poet. This poem is considered to be his greatest work and has been memorialized on the wall on 4 rue Ferou.

5. During our travels in between locations, we passed through the Place de République, which houses a large monument at the center. At the top of the monument is a statue of Marianne, wearing the Phrygian cap and holding an olive branch. The Phrygian cap is a symbol of freedom, and the olive branch is a symbol of peace. Her second hand is resting on a tablet, and the tablet says “human rights”. This monument was erected in 1883 and represented freedom and the history of people fighting for freedom and rights in the French Republic. We found it really awesome that the symbol of Marianne is so meaningful to the French people that a statue of her this large was erected.

6. Montparnasse Cemetery, located in the 6th Arrondissement was very lovely to visit. As we entered its main gates, we first noticed how wide and straight streets were. This was rather eye-catching to us since the dirt roads were very different from the cobblestones in the Père Lachaise Cemetery. Nevertheless, we found the grace of Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir just right of the cemetery’s main entrance. The grave itself was designed in a very typical fashion: a rectangular base and a headboard piece with the names and lifespan of the deceased listed, however, it was covered in many unusual markings. All across the back headpiece, as well as along the base, pink and red colored kids' marks, hearts, and other love-related designs were drawn with what appeared to be crayons or lipstick. After researching the reasoning behind the markings we learned that Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir were the first pair of known models of an open relationship. The pair never owned a home together but would instead meet daily at cafes to converse, gossip about their other partners, and edit each other's work (6). Supposedly, the two were both writers and never published a piece without the other’s input. While there are many more dramatic details to read further into the lives of Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, their legacy left behind is ionic for its pushback against social norms, as well as the questions it raises regarding what love looks like.

7. We walked from Parc des Buttes Chaumont to the top of Passerelle Bichat, the pedestrian bridge that crosses Canal St. Martin. This bridge was very unique to walk across in that it was not shaped or structured like a typical bridge. It was much higher than expected and seemingly came to a point at the top of the steep stairs. The Canal St. Martin that it crosses over was created in the 1820s and was intended to provide clean drinking water to the city (3). There is a park on one side of the bridge with an area for children to play and it seems to be located in a more residential area of the city.

8. The first place that we went was to the Temple of the Sibyl in 19e. Without a doubt, the digital era revolutionized the biggest and smallest aspect of human lives. The speed and breadth of knowledge creation, sharing and application within the economy and society are in the highest and fastest peak since the advent of technology.

As I would always say when I am asked with the question, "What is the greatest invention of all time?" – technology. In a split of second, I'll choose technology over unlimited chicken wings (although the latter is also something that I can't live without and something that comes secondary in my life after the internet).

As a Communication student, a Gen Z, a citizen of this digital world, a thinking individual, and a human – I will be forever in awe about the crucial contribution of technology in our lives. And by technology, I am pertaining to of digital world and the internet.

Enumerating the product of internet and digital technology to the world ain't possible through this blog alone, for we all know the extensive and immense amount of development that it has graced us since it was introduced.

However, speaking from personal experience, allow me to share my insights and experience on how Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), and the Tools behind it allow and apex development in the society.

ICT4D (short for ICT for development) may appear and sound pretentious or intimidating. When theoretically defined, is an initiative that bridges the digital divide (or the disparity between technological know how among people); it aids economic development by ensuring equitable access to up-to-date communication and information through technology.

To simplify and see it in a real life application, it comes in different ways, and one way that ICT proves it's role in development is the existence of digital workspaces. LinkedIn and Jobstreet are just few of the most prominent platforms that facilitate professional growth and professional space. Personally speaking, I am just one from the millions of people who are able to navigate the digital workspace, and end up landing on a job. I was able to closed an internship program through LinkedIn job application (it is a social media platform, just like Facebook, the only difference is that it has a professional environment and function). Until now, I'm still out of the proper words to describe how I am amazed on how we could simply apply for a job online, from curriculum vitae, portfolio, application letters and interviews.

Digital workspace, as mentioned earlier comes in so many applications and format. Digital platforms or sites like LinkedIn and Jobstreet are just a few good examples of how ICT facilitates development throughout employment and self growth.

Moving on with the practical tools that ICT offers inside these digital workspaces, allow me to share my insight and personal experience in the digital workspace. In a short period of time that I have been working as an intern in a remote work set up, the tools for knowledge creation, sharing, and application which are all product of ICT, such as Google workspace, allows me to fill my roles and productively complete tasks. Gmail, Gmeet, Gdrive, Google Docs, Worksheets, and Clouds to name a few, are primary helpful tools that allow me and my colleagues from different timezone and location fulfill our individual tasks and work together as a team.

Digital spaces and technology are always evolving, and for sure, a year or so from now, the services and functions that they offer will eventually upgrade, ancillary to these improvement are the growth and progress of the society and economy.
