the uptick (LOL AT FIRST I WROTE UPDICK) of trans ppl getting anons telling them that things like “girlboy” “femboy” etc are transphobic reminds me a little of the short discourse around drag here in.... 2012? 2013? in that there are some good points and you should absolutely cold-clock someone who calls you something you don’t like but self-use isn’t perpetuating harm the same way

the drag thing was that as drag-centric media became more mainstream it was viewed by many watching only that show as a cis gay man thing that, for some comedy queens in particular, sometimes leaned too heavily on the absurdity in the “man in lady clothes” transmisogynist humor which is! one HUNDRED percent correct and fair but the actual scope of drag as a cultural phenomenon is much more diverse, there are many trans performers and ppl that use drag as an outlet to express gender feelings in an artistic way

it’s kinda similar to queer too in that some ppl (myself included) have like a decrepit amazon warehouse amount of baggage around the label but others don’t and that’s honestly great for them! it’s stupid to begrudge that and if someone is still using it in the pejorative it’s because they’re a fucking bigot not because someone in my community uses it for themselves

so while yeah in some hands it’s a cudgel in others it’s an open palm so if it’s safe to do so why not give it a shake in good faith

One of my fixations is something I mention on an Discord server

What if Updike v.1 and v.2 are the same Updike that went to some sort of change?

Me, I think it was a major mishap at work (some anomaly was either aiming for him or he was caught in the line of fire while fighting/ saving others from being affected.), but honestly, it could be anything with some imagination.

Granted, I know the old lore of v.1 is outdated and such, but the thought of the old lore combine and adding onto v.2 actually surprisingly easy. Plus it could be an interesting if not amazing character arc for Updike that can have numerous unexpected endings. It’s even more fun when you throw some characters that were made by others (I know Sock.Clip make both Updikes, but there other members of TGG, also love the idea from art.i.choke of him having someone who makes things difficult as well (Stephanie, was it?) as old/outdated lore Sock.clip made of his ex girlfriend named Rosemary.

Speaking of her, made my own design of her (art is mine, but I don’t own any of the characters):

Rosemary: “Wait a minute…do I know you?”

Updike: “…Err...No….”
