Anon Project Round 2
Some of you may remember back in winter 2017-2018, when I did this thing to spread some love through the anon ask option we've got here on tumblr. Well, I did the same thing again, back in winter 2020-2021, though instead of just one month, I did it for two months. From the 1st of December 2020, until the 31st of January 2021.
Every day, I sent the message "Hi. I love you. 🤍" to one blog each day. I wanted them to know they're loved.
Now, I know tumblr sometimes eats asks, so maybe not everyone that I planned to give love to actually got their messages, and this roundup will therefore serve as a reminder to all of you that yes, I do love you. Even now, 2.5 years later.
So, here we go, I love all of you:

Simbang Gabi: The 9 Days Before Christmas
Tumblr media
An image of a red parol from Peakpx.com
The Philippines is well-known for its extremely long Christmas celebration that a lot of foreigners often look at with confusion. Traditionally, Filipinos may start putting up their trees, playing festive songs, and counting down to the 25th as early as September in a season that's colloquially called the "ber months" or the "ber months season" (Petrelli, 2021). This period often lasts up until January or February where some houses may still keep their trees and decor pushing as far as March.
Even with this technicality, however, you'd be hard-pressed to find Filipinos truly celebrating from the very beginning of September genuinely ending it by the end of February. Most often, actual celebrations start after Undas, a period encompassing All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day on the 1st and 2nd of November respectively to commemorate the dead, similar but a lot more subtle than other Catholic countries own Day of the Dead like in Mexico's Dia de Los Muertos and Italy's Giorno dei Morti. This time period is often the start of people doing more Christmas-y things such as Kris Kringle activities leading up to the main Christmas party.
The main markers of the true start in itself is the Advent season, which starts on the Sunday nearest to the 30th in Western Churches like Roman Catholicism and leads up to Christmas ("Advent", n.d.). This is where Catholics would go to Church every Sunday leading up to Christmas to light the Advent Wreath until the final candle on its center on Christmas day on the 25th. As the Philippines is heavily influenced by Roman Catholicism, Filipinos follow the Western start of Advent and most celebrations often fall in the middle of this time period. Even the middle of Advent, however, Filipinos have a waiting period to count down before Christmas - Simbang Gabi.
What is Simbang Gabi?
Simbang Gabi (en. night mass; going to mass at night) is a Philippine Christmas tradition wherein Roman Catholic Filipinos would attend mass nine days every single morning or night before the actual Christmas celebration. Traditionally, the masses were held every morning at 4:00 AM from the 16th to the 24th which would then be capped off by Christmas Eve Mass at night or Christmas Mass on the 25th with its early schedule earning it the name Misa de Gallo (en. mass of the rooster) (Lazaro, 2020). In most dioceses, however, they often have an anticipated mass schedule that start a night earlier than the morning masses (Hermoso, 2022).
Besides being called Misa de Gallo, I had also heard the celebration being called Misa de Aguinaldo (en. mass of gifts) in some places. This shares the same name as the similar Puerto Rican tradition Misa de Aguinaldo which is also a nine-day mass held in the morning, typically at 5:00 AM which is also deeply-rooted in Puerto Rican Christmas traditions (Álvarez, 2018).
History

Being a Christmas tradition, it is not surprising that Simbang Gabi could trace itself back to the Spanish colonial period.
A common misconception of its origins states that the practice first started in Mexico. Hermoso (2018) states that it started on the year 1587 by Friar Diego de Soria of the Convent of San Agustin Acolman when he requested the Vatican to allow church service to be held outdoors because of an overflow of attendees during the Christmas time. Pope Sixtus V later approved of this request and even decreed that these kinds of masses be held in the Philippines at the dawn of the 16th of December. What this doesn't account for was that the practice of going to church for the Eve of Christmas dates back to even earlier than the 16th century.

The first recorded instance of Christians celebrating Christmas by going to early mass leading up to the actual date was first written by Egeria (also called Egeriae, Etheria, or Aetheria), a Christian Galician woman who first recorded it during her travels to the Levant where she notes the early morning masses and festivities from the time of the Epiphany to the Nativity. She writes in her letters later called the Itinerarium Egeriae (en. The Travel Guide of Egeria; The Pilgrimage of Etheria).
"Octave of the Festival. On the second day also they proceed in like manner to the church in Golgotha, and also on the third day; thus the feast is celebrated with all this joyfulness for three days up to the sixth hour in the church built by Constantine (...) And in Bethlehem also throughout the entire eight days the feast is celebrated with similar festal array and joyfulness daily by the priests and by all the clergy there, and by the monks who are appointed in that place (...) and immense crowds, not of monks only, but also of the laity, both men and women, flock together to Jerusalem from every quarter for the solemn and joyous observance of that day." - Egeria, 381-384; The Pilgrimage of Etheria (trans. McClure & Feltoe, 1919):
The practice of attending early morning masses up until the main festivities of the Nativity was later adopted by more Western Christian communties during the time of Pope Sixtus III when he celebrated what is widely considered the first Midnight Mass at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome, not only stemming from the popularity of the Christians from Jerusalem but also the popular belief that Jesus was born at midnight (The Pillar, 2021).
The prayer spoken within the midnight vigil was then called the "mox ut gallus cantaverit" which translates to "when the rooster crows", aptly named because of the early hours the vigil tended to last which then coincided with the crowing of roosters ("Misa del Gallo: origen, historia y por qué se celebra en la madrugada del 25 de diciembre", 2022). The practice was continued by the Spanish with the name Misa de Gallo (also called Misa de Aguinaldo)which later spread throughout the Spanish Empire and could now be seen practiced in countries like Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and of course the Philippines.
There seem to be two variations of this: the nine-day series of masses before Christmas (found in the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela) and the single early morning mass before Christmas day (found in Spain and Bolivia). It isn't clear if Spain and Bolivia simply dropped the nine-day tradition or if the nine-day tradition was restarted in these other colonies, however.
In the Present Day

Today, the Simbang Gabi continues to be a popular tradtion for most Filipino Roman Catholics, even those who aren't typically as religious most parts of the year. This is given the fact that a popular belief is that when a person completes all of the nine days, they may receive a wish to whatever they desire. This is such a common belief that Bishop Broderick Pabillo, a Manila auxiliary bishop, had to remind people that the point of the tradition is to remember Jesus and his nativity (Punay, 2016). Besides this, it is also a common challenge among Filipinos to try to complete it as is or see how many days out of the nine could they actually attend.
It is not uncommon for churches these days to hold an "anticipated" mass the night before the actual date starting instead on the 15th and ending on the 24th with a Christmas mass, instead of starting on the 16th and ending on the 25th. This newer tradition had come from the reign of Filipino dictator President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. during the Martial Law years in the 70s, when Filipinos were not allowed to go out after a curfew until 4 in the morning (Macairan, 2023). This allowed more people and especially those who may not be able to start their day early or those who may have other obligations in the morning to attend masses at night time, typically at around 6 PM - 8 PM.
The only large controversy that I could remember about Simbang Gabi was back in 2011 when the event was banned from being conducted within the Philippine Center in New York City. The ban came about because of it supposedly violated Canon Law which prohibits religious worship in unconsecrated ground or in other words places that aren't seen as places of worship. In an article by Adarlo & Pastor (2014), Rev. Dr. Joseph G. Marabe, the at-the-time head of the Chapel of San Lorenzo Ruiz and a priest-in-residence at St. Patrick's Cathedral where the ban took place, explains in an interview with news site The FilAm:
"It’s not allowed by law to have Holy Mass in an unconsecrated place. Worship should take place in a sacred place. That was an explanation but not a decision. The Archdiocese decides." - Rev. Dr. Joseph G. Marabe, head of the Chapel of San Lorenzo Ruiz in Chinatown, New York (2011)
The ban was later lifted on 2014 after community leader Loida Nicolas Lewis wrote a letter to the diocese to reconsider the ban which led to the return of the almost 30-year-old tradition that year (Balitang America, ABS-CBN North America Bureau, 2014).
Besides being a huge part of current traditions, a lot of Filipinos, and especially Filipino youth, use the event as an excuse to go out during the night to hang out with friends and even go on dates with their partners. It is not an uncommon sight to see a group of teenagers, often wearing maybe less than typical church clothes, by the edge of the Church seemingly attending mass. Whether or not they're actually being attentive is hard to decipher. Either way, this has led to an explosion of memes almost every year just mocking these kinds of people or making fun of their own.

The barkada (en. friend group) going to Simbang Gabi had been an older tradition that has found a lot more popularity in the contemporary era because of social media. My mother had told me that she used to use it as an excuse herself back in the 80s to hang out with her friends at night time. This may be a continued past time for especially younger people for years to come.
There's also many street foods associated with Simbang Gabi that may not be unique to the event itself but are nevertheless heavily associated with the event due to their widespread sale during this time period. Foods like bibingka, puto bumbong, kutsinta, and other popular rice cakes dominate the scene which definitely satisfy the hungry parishioners who had, most likely, not eaten breakfast or dinner before going to church. With their strong associations with Simbang Gabii and Filipino Christmas as a whole, I might discuss these on a later date.
Simbang Gabi, from my experience
Growing up and living in the Philippines and especially being raised Catholic within a Catholic town named after a Catholic saint and going to a Catholic school named after another Catholic saint, it probably won't shock you that I, myself, had tried to complete the nine days of Simbang Gabi myself. I had attempted it several times with only maybe trying seriously by myself once in my life. It was quite the experience to just try to dedicate yourself into completing a goal to do something for nine consecutive days straight.
My first attempt was when I was in Junior High and it was with my sister and two people who worked for my parents and had helped watch over us. It was something that I always wanted to try doing and especially since I was gaining a lot more independence at the time so what better to try it out without the rest of the family? With adult supervision, of course.
Since we lived quite away from the actual church, the place was already packed even an hour before the actual mass started. There was barely any seats left and even less standing room leading to a huge overflow of people stuck outdoors, only hearing mass from the outdated speaker system that they had erected in place of the old bell tower.
The mass in our church was often done in the dark during the night out of an deliberate and probably aesthetic choice with only the alter being illuminated by the lights. The rest was lit up by the scattered about Christmas decor throughout the church and the church patio. It always felt like going to some liminal space that other nights at church just doesn't give.
Once the mass has been concluded, people rush out of the doors in thick crowds to find their way into the footpaths leading on to the main town streets. Some opt to stay behind to enjoy the food stalls that had pop-up for the night to eat bibingka, puto, sapin-sapin, and palitaw among other things. Some of the teens had decided to raid the nearby small park and playground as a hang-out spot to talk the night away before they rush home for their curfews. Meanwhile others were just rushing to get home as soon as they can, with people lining up to go to the rudimentary parking space that the church created while the others who didn't own their own vehicles forced to compete for the very few commuter vehicles still riding through the night, hunting for passengers.
This was before we had our own car, so we were with the latter crowds of people, trying to peer through the dark streets only illuminated by the scant Christmas lights that still refused to turn off as the night progressed. Every so often, two headlights excite the crowd and a swarm of them start running in anticipation with not care or tact if they would crush children or separate families all to take a seat on the night jeepneys, some the few commutes left after 9.
My sister was an expert in finding her way through it, reaching out to the doors to form a barricade for herself and the rest of us to prevent others from taking our seats before letting herself in. I still think I would've been left behind if it weren't for her doing that out of sheer competitiveness with the crowds.
We settled into our seats and squeezed in tightly to allow other passengers in so we could all go home as soon as we can. It was a tight but otherwise uneventful commute every night with nothing but tired people waiting for their stops and slowly emptying the once packed vehicle. Since we live in the outskirts of the town, we were often the last few and at times, the drivers would transfer us to other jeeps just so they can go home themselves. This had sometimes instead left us to walk the remainder of the way there through unpaved highway sidewalks.
After a few nights of it, I became more and more reluctant to continue because of the frenzy that it had almost every single night and it was extremely inconvenient for my time and the time of those with me. I didn't complete it then and I hadn't seriously tried until 9th Grade, which honestly was more uneventful.
That attempt was mostly my siblings and I staying in Makati City and Taguig City and going to easily traveled to churches that we could walk to by foot, and high-end malls that have annual Simbang Gabi masses for their shoppers, facilitated by the local diocese and the local fancy church. I was able to complete those easily because I was often dragged either by my siblings or my grandmother who used to never miss a day of church when she was still more active.
It was less about the challenge at that point and more of an obligation which isn't a bad thing and honestly is probably closer to how it should be celebrated.
I hadn't gone to Simbang Gabi since 2019 and I don't have any plans to try this year either. Not really because I don't want to necessarily, but specifically because I physically can't. I still think its pretty fun to do and honestly maybe a good excuse to meet with my friends that I haven't seen in a while. Sadly, I just simply cannot do it now nor in the near future.
Maybe one day I could once again go out at those cold December night to meet my friends and maybe eat some bibingka on my way home but I guess I'll just leave every one else to it.

For the reincarnation au: What do the girls think of the film?
Story time!
When they first hear about the film, it’s early November, just before it came out in cinemas. They watch the trailer together and… well, Dolores thinks it’ll be awful and doesn’t really care; Isabela is the one suggesting to sue Disney; Mirabel is in denial; and Luisa is open to giving it a chance.
Thinking it’ll be funny to boo at, Isabela gets tickets for them all to see it at the cinema.
Dolores takes them for a trail run of a cinema trip to see a different film, so they know what to do - she will know how to keep Isabela on her best behaviour and Mirabel won’t be as anxious. The trip is successful and they all are looking forward to the film a little bit more.
24th November, 2021…
Mirabel manages roughly 8.5 seconds (“This is where our magic comes from?”) before leaving. Because of how early into the film they were and sudden her departure was, the others don’t worry initially. Maybe she just needed the bathroom. They are a few minutes in (‘The Family Madrigal’) when Luisa decides to check on her. She finds her sister outside the building. Realising that the film is triggering her PTSD, Luisa does take her home and spends the evening comforting or distracting her.
Because of the no phones rule, Dolores and Isabela don’t see the texts from Luisa until after the film. Speaking of, they both really enjoyed the film - though do think it was a bit invasive to watch without Mirabel herself. Like reading a diary.
Luisa still wants to see it but doesn’t want to go alone. However, rather than buy more tickets, they wait for it to come out on Disney+ (which they have).
25th December, 2021…
Christmas evening, they sit down and try to all watch it again. Mirabel doesn’t do any better, ultimately hiding in the garage until it’s over. Luisa enjoys her ‘I told you it wouldn’t suck’ moment.
Since then the other three have rewatched it and definitely download the soundtrack. Isabela and Luisa have a competition to spot merch before the other/who has the better merch when they are out shopping. If the songs play on the radio, they will sing along. They mock each other a lot too with lines. Dolores makes a list of music critiques (and will definitely show them to Lin & Germaine in the future).
Overall, the older girls like the film. It wasn’t accurate by any means, but it was a funnier and happy version of what actually happened. The animation is beautiful, the songs/soundtrack is really strong, the actors did great. Their only nitpick is the script, but they do eventually accept it was a family film and they had only so much time.
Mirabel doesn’t take it well at all. And basically keeps herself housebound for January to March 2022 because she doesn’t want to hear or see anything about the film. The others respect she’s uncomfortable and try to keep her apart from it when they are out and about.

The update
Alright here’s that life update I threatened to post last week. The tl;dr version is that I am in a slightly different place in my life compared to the last time I posted (2020 to early 2021ish), but in many ways I feel like I’m in a similar place in my life as I was in my early 20s, and it’s made me miss posting on tumblr.
2021: this was a year with a lot of career growth for me - we were getting a lot of new projects, and I was able to join projects in roles that I had not previously filled before. Halfway through the year, I found out that we were being acquired by a much larger consulting firm. There were many benefits and drawbacks that came (and continue to come) from that. From a fitness perspective, I also trained for and completed my second Ironman (it was actually 2 years ago exactly today.) Shortly after that race, things got *very* busy at work.
Tumblr media
2022: late 2021 to early 2022 was the most stressful period of my life with respect to work. There were times that I was working on 5-8 projects at once, and trying to be the project manager/primary contact on 3 at once. March/April 2022 was definitely a low point for me, and I was starting to get very burned out. Around this time I finally started rolling off of projects, but it took me until probably August/September to feel motivated by periods of stress instead of worn down/frustrated by them. This time period definitely took a toll on my fitness too. I completed a marathon in April (I think my mileage maxed out at 30, so I was likely operating off of old Ironman fitness), and I did a few summer triathlons too. In the Fall I trained for another marathon, but unfortunately had my first DNF due to knee pain from mile 13-18.
Tumblr media
2023: This year has been much more manageable from a work perspective - I’ve been the project manager on one project, and have supported a handful of other projects/internal efforts to a lesser degree. This year has been even worse than the last in terms of fitness though, because I was dealing with hip pain from January through July. I started physical therapy for it in March, and did a PRP injection at the end of June. So far I’ve been doing well since ending PT, though I haven’t really had a chance to built my fitness back up.
So I guess that brings me to the present day - I want to figure out what fitness means for me in my 30s. I would love to get back to the level of fitness I had in my 20s, but I do think that I prioritized my level of fitness over other important areas of my life before, and I don’t want to do that again (or at the very least, I don’t want to do that for long periods of time). I don’t want to let my house to become an absolute wreck, and I want to make sure that I’m maintaining my joints/ligaments/bones so I can keep doing this for a long time. I actually got a dexa scan done last year, and between the results of that (I was in the 24th percentile) and my recent joint issues, I think strength training needs to be a priority, even if it’s not my favorite type of workout. I know being in your 30s doesn’t make you old, and many people reach peak fitness in their 30s, but I’m starting to realize that I need to do things differently now if I want to be one of those people.

This was a followup space to one a week before, hosted by Shi’er, JF, and Ltk. This space covered late-September 2020 to the end of January 2021, with discussion based off of fan resources (especially the Vietnam team and the Rainy Night fansite). Further details about many of the events mentioned can be found under the recording.
Word of Honor filming wrapped on September 22nd, the dinner banquet was on the 23rd.
September 24th: Both left Hangzhou.
Gong Jun went to Sanya and probably went to pray at the Guanyin temple he had prayed at prior to filming, then went to Fujou on September 25th, then Yibin in Sichuan where he recorded a variety show. After the variety show recording, Gong Jun went on a vacation with his family in Dandong during the first week of October, which he posted photos from on Weibo.
Zhang Zhehan went Shanghai, then to Kunming, Yunnan province on September 25th. He stayed in Yunnan for a holiday until October 5th when he traveled back to Shenzhen. During this period, he posted photos  on October 2nd, and it’s believed he also went to Shangri-La City, bordering Sichuan.
October 8th: Zhang Zhehan played golf, where he made a hole in one.
October 9th: Zhang Zhehan flew into Beijing, presumably to prepare for his concert. Gong Jun was possibly in Beijing, his exact whereabouts on this day and those preceding it are unknown.
October 10th: Zhang Zhehan had a series of interviews. During a broadcast on Beijing Music Radio (released October 23rd), he mentioned that he had shown Gong Jun his new songs and had asked him to come to his concert. This is also likely the day that the Doraemon photo was taken. Gong Jun flew from Beijing to Shanghai to celebrate the birthday of his co-star from The Love Equations.
October 11th: Zhang Zhehan held a livestream where he said he had invited a personal guest, then blushed bright red and got shy. This was also the official release date for his Another Me single. Gong Jun attended an event for GQ, stayed in the Jing An Shangri-La hotel in Shanghai. He posted the photos from the event on the same day, as well as the douyin of him dancing to Ai de Chacha.
October 12th: Gong Jun flew from Shanghai to Beijing.
October 13th: Zhang Zhehan had an interview where he mentioned he had a task to produce three songs per year. He also mentioned that during Word of Honor’s filming he had only had one day off where he was able to watch the movie Tenet, tripping over his words with something that sounded like “Gong” before saying he went with his staff. Based on his clothing, this is also most likely the day that he filmed the douyin where he bows in the white suit, as well as the one where he throws the flowers on the stairs; these were likely filmed at the location of his concert rehearsals.
October 14th: Zhang Zhehan did a live interview with MR Radio, where the host asked him to invite Gong Jun and he said he wasn’t sure if Gong Jun was going to come.
October 15th: Zhang Zhehan played golf, annual Sina Pro and Mature Golf Tournament. Gong Jun did a photoshoot for Area magazine at Beijing Sanduanjing studio.
October 16th: Xiaoyu posted the Doraemon photo, someone kept changing it from private to public and vice versa.  Gong Jun posted the Dandong photos.
October 17th: Zhang Zhehan did the band rehearsal for the concert, posted three photos wearing a white jacket, caption “See you tomorrow.”
October 18th: Zhang Zhehan’s I Met Me mini-concert at 6pm at the Beijing One Space. After the concert, his studio posted photos; in one he was sitting next to the chair 146. This was the 146th day since they met (either the martial arts training day or the script table read depending on how you count it.) Gong Jun didn’t show up to the concert, but he sent two huge bouquets with a personalized card. There’s a high possibility that Zhang Zhehan took these flowers home, as there’s a photo where something that looks like them was visible in the backseat of his car. Gong Jun filmed a douyin in his friend’s spa clinic close to the concert venue, posted October 20th. This douyin was the first time he was seen wearing the Apple watch. Rumor: He was waiting for Zhang Zhehan to finish his concert.
October 19th: Zhang Zhehan’s ELLE Men magazine photoshoot.
October 20th: Zhang Zhehan flew from Beijing to Dongshan Island. Posted a douyin where he was singing with Xiaoyu, most likely filmed on the 17th; there’s a voice in the background that may have been Gong Jun.
October 21st: Zhang Zhehan had a photoshoot for Condé Nast. Candy: The shirt he was wearing was very similar to the Givenchy shirt Gong Jun wore back during his event in June.
October 22nd: Gong Jun flew from Beijing to Nanjing, was filmed wearing a red hoodie and an Apple watch.
October 23rd and 24th: Zhang Zhehan posted a series of photos from the photoshoot and a douyin clip of himself singing Another Me, wearing an Essentials sweater.
October 26th: Gong Jun posted a video of himself unwrapping gifts on Xiao Hong Shu, wearing the Apple watch. One of the gifts included a set of headphones. Likely filmed on the 15th. Zhang Zhehan’s studio updated his public itinerary to include Nanjing for a pop-up shop event.
October 27th: Zhang Zhehan posted two photos of himself in a recording studio wearing an unpaired Apple watch. He also posted the douyin of him throwing flowers on the stairs.
October 30th: Gong Jun recorded Tian Ya Ke in Nanjing, photos posted on November 2nd.
October 31st: One Night in Nanjing. Zhang Zhehan flew from Shenzhen to Nanjing for the pop-up shop event and had a photoshoot, white shirt over blue tshirt. (Not the same hotel as Gong Jun’s Fresh photoshoot in November 2021, that candy is fake.) Gong Jun drove from Nanjing to Shanghai to watch an e-sports event and filmed a vlog of this. After that, he drove back to Nanjing, identified by store signs in the background of the vlog. It’s about a four hour drive between the cities. Rumor: The two met in Nanjing.
November 1st: Zhang Zhehan flew back to Beijing to record Tian Ya Ke. He was spotted at the airport with a possible hickey, looking quite tired. Gong Jun did not work this day, he only had a dentist appointment.
November 2nd: Zhang Zhehan flew to Chongqing to film Retro Detective.  Gong Jun was back in Nanjing to film The Flaming Heart.
November 8th: Official start of filming for both.
November 11th: Zhang Zhehan went to Shanghai for a Fendi event.
November 18th: Release of Zhang Zhehan’s song Don’t Say, posted on Douyin.
November 29th: Gong Jun’s birthday, livestream of him unwrapping his gifts with his coworkers. One of the gifts was a big Lego set of the Roman Colosseum that he said was from a friend, rumor is that it was from Zhang Zhehan. Sang Ai Ni Wuhu.
December 4th: Gong Jun posted a photo on Instagram of himself with a neckwarmer.  Zhang Zhehan posted “你好吗” (“are you okay?”) on Weibo.
December 25th: Gong Jun went to Beijing to promote Unique Lady 2. He had a fanmeet afterwards where when he asked for questions about his characters, someone asked about Zhou Zishu, and he laughingly said “I’m not Zhou Zishu, are you a fan of Zhang Zhehan’s?”
January 1st: Gong Jun did an interview where he said “In the new year ... may your CP be real.”
January 14th: Gong Jun flew from Nanjing (Flaming Heart filming) to Beijing where he recorded a spring festival gala. He filmed part of a vlog of him going to eat hotpot. Rumor: Zhang Zhehan may have been with him at the restaurant, there was definitely someone with him who he kept looking at; there’s no concrete evidence either way.
January 17th: Gong Jun posted hotpot photos on Weibo.  Zhang Zhehan’s studio posted a photo of him from behind with a caption about chasing stars.
January 23rd: Zhang Zhehan privated then unprivated some photos he had taken in Yunnan of him by a lake. In the photos he was wearing a black hoodie that Gong Jun has in red.
January 31st: Gong Jun posted the hotpot vlog.
To be continued in a future space. ♥

Is social media useful in spreading information on covid-19 in Malaysia or your country? What is your opinion?
Tumblr media

Hi there! This week’s blog is about public health and we will dive a little about the coronavirus disease, also known as covid-19 and in days gone by, named 2019 novel coronavirus. Coronavirus was first spotted at one of open air “wet market” in Wuhan, China. Afterwards, during that time, there was an assumption that there might a coronavirus originated in one of lab in China as a biological weapon. However, the newest reports concur that the coronavirus is not an engineered virus being developed to become a biological weapon.
What is social media role during coronavirus issue?
According to (Abbas et al., 2021), people usage time on social media is higher than usual during COVID-19 pandemic period since social media is the only platform where people can search for health information for their own and their loved one’s benefits. Due to global crisis and health disaster during the pandemic, social medias have become the most welcome relief for people.
(Abbas et al., 2021) also stated, typically, users will create or share about health information that already available via local or international sources as their response to an international public health issue.
As social media platforms can bring impacts to people, people also need someone who can share their own life experience or their knowledge about health issue and shared their experience or knowledge about health information. This method called peer support. The peer support concept on social media is referring to health information that will help people to know more about Covid-19 pandemic issue. People will be searching for health-related news regarding to Covid-19 pandemic in their social media account, for example the most common one is Facebook. Since Covid-19 pandemic brought “culture shock” to the world, people will be searching for the detailed health-related update and stay keep in touch with family, friends and peers. Public communication and interaction searching for accurate information and opportunity of Covid-19 to create proper virus prevention on social media. Since social media provides the latest news and trustable information to the world, social media have become the central role in answering in global health crisis issue.

Social media and electronic government (E-government) role during Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia

First Covid-19 case detected in Malaysia after three individuals had a close contact with one individual in Singapore. They had their trip into Malaysia from Singapore on January 24th 2020 and tested positive on January 25th 2020. After that, on the February 4th 2020, the very first Malaysian was tested positive Covid-19 after he returned from Singapore and started to cough and had fever.
During the pandemic time, the Ministry of Health of Malaysia take advantages of social media to educate and spread the awareness to the public about the Covid-19 precautions. On 18th March 2020 until 18th April 2020, the Malaysia Government implemented Movement Control Order (MCO) to control the Covid-19 from widespread.
During the entire period of Covid-19, social media accounts for example like X (previously known as Twitter) and WeChat were used to share the updates about preventive measure and healthcare. After Tan Sri Muhyiddin implemented MCO, the media started to actively using the #stayhome hashtag to spread the awareness. The government of Malaysia come up with enough latest information to the public via the Official Portal of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, verified Facebook page named Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia posted about the Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CRPC) and Telegram channel named CPRC KKM.
The Malaysia government also launched one application that can only used on mobile named MySejahtera in April 20202 to help all the users to keep track of their health progress, helping the authorities to collect the latest information, check in location and come up with the most essential and fast reply.

Now, if you ask me, i would definitely say yes. I do agree that social media is useful in spreading information on Covid-19 because through social media is the way that Ministry of Health Malaysia can reach out to the people since gathering is not allowed during the MCO period. People will depend on social media to stay connected with their family or friend and also to get the latest update regarding to health issues.

2022: fic year in review
tagging anyone who wants to do this
Takeaways from reflecting on your kick-ass writing, or kick-ass lack of writing, during a year more focused on survival than perhaps any other:
So this year very much was a year... not of survival but healing maybe? IRL Derry Rain quit their longtime job at the very end of 2021, after years of shouldering a lot of intense stress at far above the level they were being paid for. They somehow acquired a new job at that time which is a Dream but also Very Important and Hard Work. So it was and is great but was an exhausting change. They ALSO ALSO found out that a pot of PhD funding was available and uh, got it. So as of September, is now working almost full time and doing a PhD the rest of the time. For those good at maths and days of the week... don't worry about it.
Triple also, came off a bunch of medication, finally got a cane to help deal with chronic pain and actually took a real holiday.
This all naturally put fic on the backburner, until the last month when I think I finally got settled. And I wrote a chunk.
Most surprising fic you wrote this year:
First Band of Brothers fic! Ever! So that's fun.
How you grew as a writer this year:
Lord, I don't think I did, but that's ok.
What’s coming in 2023:
Dimension 20 exchange! Writing [secret] for the end of January.
Yuletide, again!
Band of Brothers fic - I have a Webgott ghost story on the go, plus a few thoughts of various OCs (feat. Renee Lemaire Gets A Girlfriend, Don Malarkey Isn't Prepared For This, and Who Let This Strange Person WIth A Camera In Here And Why Are They So Hot?)
Terror bingo fills and a lot of HodgePilk. I'm back baby.
Fics written (and posted) this year:
arts, sails and oars-[The Terror] HodgePilk. A small interlude at mutiny camp.
choice. [The Terror] In which James Daly takes a shift at Bill Heather's bedside, and William Hedges finds him there. (for Lobsterfest)
Three Different Names [Stranger Things, WIP] A series 4 story about a boy, a trailer and a very pregnant tabby cat. Or, in which series 4 happens, but Eddie Munson has a kitten on him at all times.
a man who walks alone [Stranger Things] Steddie. After being rescued from the Upside Down, Eddie Munson finds it hard to sleep.
Aftermath [Exandria Unlimited: Calamity] Maya and Kir wait for their father to come home.
Festive Fluff for Fun and No Profit [Band of Brothers] - If you wanted to have a different BoB pairing for each day of December through to the 24th... here it is. Particular favourites:
Dec 15: Albert Blithe x Shifty Powers - Finding and opening a Christmas present early.
Dec 5: Joe Liebgott x David Webster - Cuddling in front of the fire on a cold night.
Dec 17: Ronald Speirs x Chuck Grant - Gift giving

January 7th I was 316 pounds
February 24th I am 288 pounds so that means in a month and 17 days I've lost 28 pounds.
I hadn't started off with restricting. I was dieting normal/doing not so hot. Was losing maybe a pound or so a week sometimes 5 a week. I had joined a contest with my coworkers for dieting and was like even if I don't lose it is a good start because near end of 2021 I was 356 pounds and by end of 2022/start of 2023 I was 316. I was being lazy about dieting and thought you know maybe this will be a little kick in butt. Back in 2014 I was down to 120/130 pounds and I ended up in a really abusive relationship and food was only comfort I had and he made sure I ballooned up pretty fast too because I honestly think he planned it that way so I would feel less self worth. Since then I have felt disgusted with myself. I'm at point where I don't even look at myself when I get dressed because I will just hate the way I look, change my outfit, hate how I look in that, repeat first steps over and over again until I'm crying and say fuck it. I planned to diet "healthier" and not fall back into my habits. But my coworker literally told me because it goes off of percent of weight lost vs start weight. Mind you at this point I had been winning the contest "I'm actually surprised you're winning. I thought was bad idea for you to enter the contest because it was going to be harder for you to win and you'd basically just be losing the contest not weight" and them saying that reached down into my brain and dug up the old me that got me to 120/130 and brought her back to life. I feel literally disgusted by all food now, I'm snacking on mainly baby puffs because crunchy snacks were my weakness and I get that crunch for only 25/35 calories. I'm biting more than I'm eating now. I have binged a few times. I'm working on not doing it and cutting back. Although one day I definitely know I counted calories wrong or something because I had a McDonald's meal for dinner. It was large with a coke and I didn't work out that night. I still lost 2 pounds that night. I was shocked. Now I'm definitely making sure I win this contest because I'm only one losing weight. Most of the people have gained in the contest or have only lost 2-3 pounds. And this has been since January 7th. I also want to be 240 by mid May. My sisters graduation is then, and she has honestly NEVER seen me under 290/300 (Long lost sister. I met her the year after I got with abusive ex so she missed the 120/130 me. I just want to be lighter for her graduation and look pretty in family photos.

Chinese New Year marks the transition between zodiac signs: 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, following the year of the Rabbit 2023, and the year of the Tiger 2022. (Traditions, Activities, Celebrations, Decorations and so on). 2024 is the Year of the Wood Dragon. Dragon is the 5th animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac signs, coming after the Rabbit and before the Snake. Recent years of the Dragon include 2024 (this year), 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, and 1952, with the next Dragon year in 2036 (Year of the Fire Dragon). It is associated with the earthly branch symbol chen. Dragon is powerful, endlessly energetic and full of vitality, goal-oriented yet idealistic and romantic, and a visionary leader. They know exactly who they are and possess the keenest sense of self among the 12 zodiacs of Chinese astrology. Chinese New Year or 'Spring Festival' is a very important festivity for Chinese people everywhere, it is also China's most important festival and holiday time. Chinese New Year 2023 falls on Sunday, January 22nd, 2023, beginning a year of the Rabbit. Celebrations last up to 16 days, but only the first 7 days are considered a public holiday (January 22nd–January 29th, 2023). The exact date of the Chinese New Year changes from year to year, but is always between 21 January and 19 February. In recent decades, it has been the second day of a 7-day public holiday in Mainland China. In ancient China people used the moon to calculate time, and in the Chinese lunar calendar every month begins with the new moon. The festival has a history of over 3,000 years. Celebrations on lunar New Year's Day can be dated back to the ancient worship of heaven and earth. Over the centuries new traditions were added and celebrations became more entertainment-orientated. In 1967 food was rationed, and there was no money! Greetings were full of Communist fervor. Now people eat out for Chinese New Year, send e-money, and greet with instant messages on WeChat (the most popular app in China). Chinese New Year 2021 was the Year of the Ox. In popular Chinese astrology Chinese New Year is important... For Chinese people, years begin at Chinese New Year, rather than January 1! 2018: It's Dog year 2018 until February 4th 2019 (Chinese New Year's Eve). 2019: A year of the Pig will start on February 5th. 2020: A year of the Rat will start on January 25th. Every year of the Chinese Calendar has an animal's name. These animals are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, cockerel, dog and pig. The Chinese believe that a person born in a particular year has some of the characteristics of that animal.

Chinese New Year Decorations Chinese families celebrate the new year for two weeks and their main activities include 1) putting up decorations, 2) eating reunion dinner with family on New Year's Eve, 3) firecrackers and fireworks, and 4) giving red envelopes and other gifts. Chinese New Year merchandise Red decorations, red wrapped gifts, and red clothes are everywhere at Chinese New Year. They decorate their houses, towns and villages with coloured lanterns, flowers and many other decorations. They carefully clean the house and throw away old things. This means they are throwing away the bad luck of the past year. In many Chinese cities, from New Year's Day, traditional performances can be seen: dragon dances, lion dances, and imperial performances like an emperor's wedding. A great variety of traditional Chinese products are on offer, and rarely seen Chinese snacks. City parks and temple fairs are the places to go for this. Every street, building, and house where Spring Festival is celebrated is decorated with red. Red is the main color for the festival, as red is believed to be an auspicious color. Red Chinese lanterns hang in streets; red couplets are pasted on doors; banks and official buildings are decorated with red New Year pictures depicting images of prosperity. Most public decoration is done a month before, but home decoration is traditionally done on Chinese New Year's Eve. As 2019 will be a year of the Pig, decorations related to pigs will be commonly seen. Look out for red pig dolls for children and New Year paintings with pigs on. The festive period is one of the best times of the year to interact with Chinese people, and experience the local culture. However, it is also the busiest time of the year on China's transportation network. So, you might want to avoid the transport stress or seek out China's New Year culture, or both... It is very important for the Chinese to be with their families on New Year's Eve. Wherever they are, people are expected to be home to celebrate the festival with their families. The New Year's Eve dinner is called 'reunion dinner', and is believed to be the most important meal of the year. On this occasion the family eats a big, delicious meal together with many meaningful dishes. Fish is always part of the dinner, along with rice, different meats and vegetables. Each food has a special meaning, and the Chinese believe these foods bring good luck. Fish means an increase in prosperity, Chinese dumplings signify great wealth, and a Glutinous rice cake means a higher income or position. During this holiday period is also very common to visit nearby friends or relatives.

Chinese New Year 2019 Celebrations Like people waiting in New York Time Square to see the ball dropping, Chinese people have the custom of staying up late on Chinese New Year's Eve to welcome the new year's arrival. After reunion dinner, families normally sit together to watch the Spring Festival Gala, one of the most watched TV shows in China. At the same time, most people send WeChat red envelopes or short messages to acquaintances by phone. It has been a long Chinese tradition to set off firecrackers from the first minute of their new year. Fireworks have increasingly been added to the cacophony. From public displays in major cities to millions of private celebrations in China's rural areas, setting off firecrackers and fireworks is an indispensable festivity. On New Year's Day the Chinese wear new clothes to symbolyze the New Year. Red is a popular colour because the Chinese believe that it is lucky. Like at Christmas in other countries, people exchange gifts during the Spring Festival. In rural areas and for older people the New Year gift giving tradition is still strong, but increasingly younger people prefer just to receive red envelopes (by hand or electronically). The most common New Year gifts are red envelopes. Parents and family members give children the traditional New Year's gift called "Lai see" (lucky money), that is a red and gold envelope with some money inside. They are given also to retirees and customarily only employers give red envelopes to working adults. Businesses and public institutions in China take a 7-day Chinese New Year holiday, except those who need to have some staff on duty. However, most large malls, tourist attractions, public transport, hotels, and restaurants will open as usual, or even stay open longer! When the public holiday period ends, China prepares to go back to work. Life returns to normal and schools reopen on Feb. 27. In China people are becoming less superstitious, but Chinese people traditionally believe that the year's start affects the whole year, so the Chinese Spring Festival is a season of superstitions. It's believed that what something looks like (color, shape), and what its name sounds like, gives it auspicious or ill-fated properties. The Luckiest Things to Do at Chinese New Year are: giving money/gifts in lucky numbers and lucky red packaging with lucky greetings.
Tumblr media
Chinese New Year Traditions Eating lucky food like fish on New Year's Eve, especially carp or catfish with some left over for New Year's Day. Lighting lots of red firecrackers and fireworks to scare away evil and bring good luck. The Unlucky Things to Do at Chinese New Year are: having an accident, especially if it means hospital visits, crying, and breakages: all bad omens. Giving gifts with unlucky meanings, colors, words, or numbers, or even saying something inauspicious. Sweeping up on New Year's Day: don't "sweep all your luck away". There are a lot of big Chinese communities outside China. In many big cities such as London, New York and San Francisco there are areas called "Chinatown". In these areas there are many Chinese shops and restaurants. Chinese New Year is a big celebration both for the Chinese and the local people of these places, and there are a lot of colorful decorations in the streets of every Chinatown. In New York City, the new year begins with 600,000 firecrackers, a ritual believed to frighten away bad spirits. There is a grand parade through Manhattan's Chinatown, with elaborate floats, bands, lion and dragon dances, Chinese musicians and acrobats. One last thing to remember: sweeping up on New Year's Day is considered unlucky. Don't sweep all your luck away! A very important celebration is the parade on New Year's Day, when there are a lot of spectacular floats. The dragon is an important part of the parade because people believe it is noble and lucky. In the parade a dragon can sometimes be twenty-five metres long and can have about sixty men move under its body and tail! People often throw money at the dragon and the dragon tries to catch it in its big mouth. Sometimes there is more than one dragon in the parade. If so, there is a dancing competition between the dragons. Lion dancing is an ancient Chinese tradition, and lion dancers are always part of the parade. Two men usually move under each lion. It has a big head and a long body. Musicians play the drums and cymbals too during the lion dance. There are also noisy fireworks. The Chinese believe that the noise frightens evil spirits. During the parade children represent the twelve animals of the Chinese calendar. Chinese children like wearing the costume of their favorite animal during the parade. There are also acrobats and musicians in beautiful costumes. Most of the costumes and masks in the parade come from China. The Chinese zodiac gives each year an animal sign. Read the characteristics of your sign. Are they true? Why or why not?

Charcherry Weekly - Issue 178
Heya folks, Mage of Light Nick Card here. The year is almost over somehow!
Let's finish it off strong!
Redistro Review!
This year on Present Redistrobution day, Heir of Time Thoren Emit and Maid of Void Skitis traveled together across starter planet in one night to deliver presents to every child. Reportedly they succeeded in this effort, even with a particularly tiring double battle! Meanwhile, Warlock of Time Coleman rode off into the night to cover the giftgiving in more local locations, as well as covering giftgiving to our group at large. Page of Rage Jovin also did some local giftgiving, though with less personalized gifts, mostly sticking with the reliable gift og a couple ultra balls and a held item.
As for your dear newsletter writer, I spent my redistro waiting at the pokemon center for a dear friend's recovery. You see, Mage of Life Blaze did arrive on the 24th as foretold, but apparently her immune system needed time to adapt to the vastly different biosphere. Like, what the heck did darkeus do to that version of Hisui, cover everything in weird new germs? Did Blaze almost die to nuzlocke pokerus? I am not a medical professional so I do not know. Regardless, she was released from the pokemon center after a few days, and only just managed to gain the strength to visit my home on friday. It was a nice visit, but I worry about her expected return to evil hisui (as opposed to neutral hisui, which is only averagely deadly rather than extremely deadly).
Despite everything, I managed to get a pair of light-enhancing specticles from Coleman that may come in handy, as well as some cookies from Samus.
Somehow, no particular get-together was planned this year by any particular party, with personally made the occasion sad and confusing though perhaps I should have tried to organize something myself rather than wonder and wait until the last minute.
Rails to be ridden
Rather recently, a representative from the underground contacted our group about challenging voidco's rather recent bid towards trying to buy out the rail system. Desertian President Witch of Time Katyleen Kitten negotiated with the representative, and has successfully entered a deal to handle the costs for 25% of the railway and begin planning for a set of stops under the new Desertian Rail Authority. Some of these stops will be within the Gene universe, while some will be in various versions of the pokemon world.
Because of continued complications in keeping Starter Planet a secret, a poll has been launched to gauge interest in ending the secrecy agreement, as previous reasons for its implementation are either irrelevant or actively counterproductive if enforced entirely. It is assumed that the agreement will be ended, as there was no particularly strong opposition to the motion.
The decision will go into effect on January 1st.
Ringing in the New Year!
On December 31st and leading into January 1st, there will be a new year's celebration of sorts. a stand selling various party supplies for the occasion will be open for the occasion, with party poppers and funky glasses and other noisemakers. As of note, there is currently no designated countdown device, which means that one will need to be planned and ready for use and operation by then. Please remember that loud fireworks are not likely to be used, and that the occasion will be observed according to the local DZT time zone. As usual, refreshments can be found at Gene's garden. Mixed drink fees may apply.
This week’s known market stands in Desertia Town:
Katie’s potion stand (Not available to plitlanders due to regulations, available to all others however)
shinyjiggly pokesnacks stand (ran by Rufus)
New Years party supply stand
caramel apple stand
I think that does it for this week, and this year for that matter. The recent story arc of the denizen visit in left beef is nearly to a close, meaning the next one (Rise getting the teleport-y mask? skipping ahead to the 2021 new years stuff?) is coming up. It feels nice to have stuff that actually feels like it leads to something.
May everyone have a good 2024! https://letssosl.boards.net/thread/413/charcherry-weekly-issue-178

Private space company, Rocket Lab, launched its 40th Electron mission on their lauded Electron rocket, dubbed “We Love The Nightlife”, on August 24th at 11:45am New Zealand Standard Time (August 23rd at 7:45pm EST), which also marks the 7th launch of 2023, all successful. The purpose of the mission was to deliver the next-generation Acadia satellite for Capella Space to a circular orbit above the Earth at 640 km (400 miles), which was executed flawlessly. Acadia is part of Capella’s synthetic aperture radar (SAR) constellation and is the first of four Acadia satellites that Rocket is currently contracted to launch for Capella. “We’ve been a trusted launch partner to Capella since 2020 and we’re delighted to deliver mission success once again,” Rocket Lab CEO and Founder, Peter Beck, said in an official statement. “Electron has played a crucial role in helping constellation operators like Capella deploy their spacecraft on time and on target, and we look forward to continuing building out Capella’s constellation with more dedicated launches this year.” After the successful launch, Rocket Lab crews successfully recovered the Electron first stage booster from the Pacific Ocean once it parachuted down upon stage separation. This marked the sixth time Rocket lab successfully recovered a booster from the ocean, and the third successful recovery in 2023. Rocket Lab has only attempted booster recoveries a handful of times, but this looks to be increasing since they’ve had three booster recoveries out of three attempts this year. The goal of booster recoveries is to enhance rocket reusability with the goal of decreasing launch costs. Along with increasing reusability of the Electron rocket, this latest mission also marked the first time Rocket Lab attempted to reuse one of its 3D-printed Rutherford engines, which performed flawlessly with the rest of Electron’s nine first stage Rutherford engines. Rocket Lab posted an image of the nine engines prior to launch on their X account (previously known as Twitter), with the reused engine standing out from the rest due to its darker color. Another surprise! For the first time, we’re launching with a preflown Rutherford engine today. This is a major step toward evolving Electron into a reusable rocket.Spot the engine that has already been to space and back. pic.twitter.com/XSJoJII2GD— Rocket Lab (@RocketLab) August 23, 2023 Previous Rocket Lab launches for Capella Space include the “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Optical” mission in August 2020 that delivered a Sequoia Earth-imaging satellite to a 500-km (310-mile) low Earth orbit, and the “Stronger Together” mission in March 2023 that delivered the Capella 9 and Capella 10 satellites to a 600-km (375-mile) low Earth orbit. As noted, this latest mission was the first of four Acadia satellite launches, with the remaining three missions scheduled for launch by the end of 2023. Founded in New Zealand in 2006, Rocket Lab’s goal is to deliver payloads to space with low-cost launch vehicles, which follows in the footsteps of private space company, SpaceX, founded in 2002. To accomplish this, Rocket Lab built the expendable, and now partially reusable, Electron rocket, with its first successful launch occurring in January 2018 after a failed first launch attempt in May 2017. All of their launches occurred in New Zealand until January 2023 when Rocket Lab conducted their first launch from American soil at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. This latest launch not only marks the 40th Electron, but also continues a streak of 20 successful missions, including one suborbital launch, with the last launch failure occurring in May 2021. Going forward, Rocket Lab has a full plate of contracted launches through the rest of 2023 and 2024 with several customers, both returning and new. The private rocket company is even slated to launch the first private mission to Venus sometime in 2025. As this latest launch demonstrates, Electron has proven to be both a successful and reliable launch vehicle for Rocket Lab. However, Peter Beck’s private rocket company is currently working on the upgraded, and fully-reusable, Neutron rocket capable of listing up to 15,000 kilograms (33,000 pounds) to low Earth orbit depending on the launch configuration. For context, Electron can only launch a maximum 300 kilograms (660 pounds) to low Earth orbit and is only partially-reusable, as previously noted. Like Electron, Neutron will use nine first stage engines but called Archimedes, and they’ll be capable of much greater lift-off thrust. Neutron is currently in development and is slated to have its maiden launch sometime in 2024. As always, keep doing science & keep looking up!
