Hello. Probably incredibly weird recieving word from someone at 2 am(or whatever the time is where you may be), but I finally found the new blog you mentioned in your original one. I'm a dummy. Anyway, I have an OC that I've been writing about, and though our opinions on Death's character are bound to be different I am happy to know all opinions of his character from everyone. So what do you think of the character Ale that I created on my own blog and her relation with Death?

Forgive me for this sudden ask. I no longer use this blog to write, rather I use UnseelieFaeLass to do so. Though I've lacked motivation for some time now. Anyway....I'll get my ask over with instead of rambling.

What's your opinion of Death? I know Strife is your fave, and for me personally he's a close second. Death is my fave of the fam and of video game men in general.

Also what do you believe were Strife's actually feelings in the novel towards Death as he was about to shoot his brother's head into brainy bits? I worded it weird, but I'm talking about the part where Death tries to state he's dealing with the Vault alone only for Strife to aim at his head.

No problem, ask away. I just can’t promise that I’ll always be quick to answer.

I actually really like Death as well; he was my favourite, until we got properly introduced to Strife in both Genesis and Darksiders 3. The two are actually quite alike. Both show remorse for annihilating the Nephilim (possibly also for other horrible things they’ve done), and as War noted, hide behind masks. Both can be quite sassy and like to mock others. And despite how they may appear at first, both can be remarkably compassionate/empathetic at times.

I remember one character in Darksiders 2, remarking that Death is not as cold as he pretends to be, and Death asking him to keep that to himself. It was one of my favourite moments in the game.

I think that after all he’s done, Death decided to build up some emotional walls, to distance himself from everyone. That’s how he can best (emotionally) deal with everything. But he also still tries to do what he thinks is best for his siblings, tries to protect them, but again, keeps even them at a distance. And that is where he comes into conflict with Strife, who faces many of the same internal struggles, but deals with them differently, and unlike Death seems to want to connect with his siblings.

Now, concerning the novel. This is something I mentioned in the author’s note of my story Pariahs; while I consider the basic events of the novel canon, I can’t say the same for the characterizations and interactions. Both Fury and Strife are just too different from what we’ve seen in game. Strife from the novel, just isn’t the guy we see in Genesis or D3.

So yeah, Death told them about the Vault, decided to go alone, and the two definitely argued, that’s all canon...but, I think canon/game Strife would have acted differently/ said things differently. Hope I’m making sense.

Still, if canon Strife ever did pull out his gun, it was not to kill his brother. I think it would be out of frustration; his big brother, the last bit of family he has left, was gone for centuries. He returns without so much as a “how’ve you all been”, tells them about those horrific weapons (meaning he kept secrets from them, perhaps keeps even more), and now wants to handle it alone, leaving them behind yet again. To Strife, Death must looks like a cold, arrogant bastard, who doesn’t value or trust them. I see Strife pulling out his gun more as an almost desperate act, when Death is about to leave, a “hey, stop right there, pay attention and for once just listen to me/take me seriously. Stop pushing us away. You’re our brother, not our boss.” Something along those lines.

Some time ago I received an ask from @unseeliefaelass and it got me inspired to draw. (Here's the said ask)

Have a picture of Abaddon from the moment Death met him after the apocalypse stuff finally calmed down. That's how the Horseman found him (he lost his eye patch in a scuffle with a particularly mean demon). I must say he looks strange with a full beard. I think it shouldn't be a surprise that Death barely recognised him (even my brother was like "yo, who tf is th- is that Abaddon???") XD

Also, what do you think? Is it really possible for him to ever return to the White City? Are Uriel and Azrael going to find a way to help him?

What song do you personally associate with Death? For me I personally associate Vengeance by Garmarna(takes a lot of playing around with interpretation lyric wise.). Recommend the group by the way, they have lovely music.

I associate a LOT of songs with every muse I have, which is why I make playlists for them, but I can definitely pick a few that stand out the most. PLEASE feel free to ask the same of any other muse I have, either on this blog or any other--I LOVE talking about music as it relates to muses!!!

Some songs I associate the most heavily with him and why:

This one has just an overall tone and lyrical style that closely captures the atmosphere and emotion of all Darksiders II, in my opinion. It’s melancholy, yet uplifting and builds some hype in its spikes. It’s hope and hoplessness. The word choice is also fitting of Darksiders in general, even if it’s truly intended to be Dark Souls.

This one, I’m... biased on. It was the intro music to my old let’s play of Darksiders II, before even the remaster was out. But I feel like it’s not far-fetched at all, listening to the lyrics and hearing the tone of it. I feel this era of Disturbed just fits Darksiders a lot in general, with its mix of aggressiveness and brooding depth.

Ah... Lilith. I know the series only barely touches on that relationship, but... It’s gotta be more significant than they let on. Not to mention, can’t you just imagine his singing voice sounding something like this?

This one is probably the most fitting. It perfectly captures that same melancholy tone I described before, and the lyrics speak a lot to Death’s status as an anti-hero. He tries to act in the ways he thinks are best, but there’s a big moral grey area there. He struggles a lot with choosing between personal interest and the greater good. While his choices now typically lean more toward the latter, the former isn’t entirely left behind, and his past is deeply stained.

I hope this blog is ready. If you're still not then I apologize yet again. I know you have many blogs. Anyway to my question. What if the remaining three Horsemen were shown a vision of Death as he chose to jump into the well for War? One that felt so real that they thought they could possibly have stopped him or that they can still stop him somehow? I can't imagine either of them would take such news without some level of denial. Strife may have the worst denial to get past of the group.

((I still need to make reference pages for War and Fury, but that won’t stop me from accepting in-character interaction! Not that this question seems to be addressed to the muses, but still.))

((An interesting discussion topic, but I feel like War would be the one having the hardest time with it. He seems to be the closest to Death out of the group. Strife actually comes off as having the worst relationship with Death among the bunch, if the book is anything to go by.))
