We always talk about how Tarka manipulated Book into helping him (esp after he fired the isolytic weapon) but I raise you this:

Book knew about the mirror-verse so it's very likely that Michael also told him about their unintended visit to there via the mycelial network. Especially bc he is the only other navigator next to Stamets, so he should know that it's possible to travel through the multiverse.

When Tarka told him about wanting to go home Book could've easily said something along the lines of 'why don't you use the mycelial network? Aren't you building a second spore drive right now?'

But he did not. Not once did he mention it. Not on the work camp planet not before, not after. Now you could say this is bc he simply didn't think of it. He has other things on his mind - which true.

But also: if he had said one word about the possibility to reach Kayalise via mushroom highway, Tarka would've abandoned his plan instantly and Book would lose his only way of revenge. Book needs Tarka. So maybe it's a deliberate choice that he doesn't tell Tarka about how far the mycelial network really goes.

And: if it wasn't for Book, Tarka would probably never stolen the spore drive. That man was close to give up another plan of reaching Kayalise with the way he stared whistfully out of the window. Then Book came up to him and convinces him to do everything he can to get his plan through the vote.

Tarka needs Book - but Book also needs Tarka.

#during the finale when tarka tells book he's going to save him and then tries to go to kayalise with his transporter #book could've said something like: hey you don't have to gamble with the transporter. i know a safe way to get you to kayalise #but nope still says nothing #it just bothers me so much that there is literally the perfect way to reach another universe #and tarka just ignores it #well good for book i guess #this way he can get his revenge :) #star trek discovery #ruon tarka #cleveland booker #golden ratio
