Shufflemancy: Stay with me by Anson Seabra
As a spouse you are a little territorial. You trust your partner, but everybody else is under your careful scrutiny. You very easily pinpoint weeds in your garden, and pull them out root and stem swiftly. Your spouse can rely on you to be on the look out for all sorts of dangers, big or small. Security is of great importance to you, both regarding your relationship and your loved ones, and yourself. Perhaps less so yourself, as you seem to have an instinct to protect which sometimes overrules your own safety. You could relate to the knight archetype to some extent, the concept of serving and protecting. There is an intensity to your love that is like a fine wine, and simply intoxicating to your partner. You're akin a guard dog; out in public you are an intimidating presence ready to bark and bite should need arise, but behind closed doors your service is paid for in tender love and care and you melt when your partner dotes on you. And your spouse adores this duality in you, dominance and submission merged into one.
You're observant, and pay careful attention to your partner's wants and needs, and this lends itself to both an intuitive understanding and awareness of your partner's feelings and the shifts that occur, and makes you a great gift-giver too. You're also a great example of the "girlfriend effect" (regardless of gender) because you encourage your partner's authentic self expression and help them daringly try new things, style wise but also in general. It is safe for your partner to take leaps of faith in career and other matters that may come with risks, because you stand watch and are always there to catch them should they fall. It's possible that you're a late bloomer, or have a series of tumultuous relationships before finding your person, which leads you to take things slowly, desire clarity, and develop effective communication skills to avoid misunderstandings with your spouse. You have a deep need for emotional support and reassurance, so your spouse is somebody who you can truly trust and feel the ground sturdy and secure beneath your feet in their presence, and find shelter and comfort in their arms when you need it.
For some, the term spouse is used loosely, as formal marriage may not be of interest to you if you have any qualms regarding tradition, or simply prefer the intimacy of privacy. Some could opt for court house marriage with a lowkey get together with loved ones at a later date, and others none, and simply commit as life partners without legalities or traditions taken into consideration. If marriage does occur, it's likely to happen later once career matters are stable.
If you and your partner have children, you are your child's biggest cheerleader and encourage any interests of theirs, fuel their passions and show up to their activities to support them. Strong likelihood of children who are outcasts of some sort, deemed strange by their peers, bullied, could be neurodivergent, queer, or otherwise experience difficulties growing up, which you are uniquely equipped to handle and care for. Some in this group may simply decide to have no children of their own, or consider fostering as an alternative, but could otherwise deal with children, especially the unfortunate, in their community or on a larger scale in society.
Additional details: oddly specific spotify playlists, swords and daggers, rpgs, tarot, history, psychology, the moon, moths, wolves, pirates, red or purple lips, cherries, citrus fruits, birthday dinner, makeovers (self or room idk??), emails, documents, nintendo, tattoos, kuromi, donuts, fairs or theme parks, escape rooms, the nightmare before christmas, wednesday and the addams family, fate: the winx saga, euphoria, purple, chai, scorpio/aries/aquarius/gemini, saturn/mars/moon/lilith, april/march/november/december.

Shufflemancy: This side of paradise by Coyote theory
As a spouse you are a breeze. A gentle caress of the sea blowing through your spouse's hair on the beach. You're a little bit of an old romantic, and may have an affinity with the classics or period dramas. You enjoy simplicity and peace, breaking bread at the kitchen table and quality time simply spent in the vicinity of your dear. Merely cooking together can be an adventure, as can the clean-up. You're attentive and try to be both a good friend and lover to your spouse. Resting your head on their lap and enjoying the silence, the act of nesting behind closed doors appeals to you, but you're partial to little getaways too just the two of you, slipping away somewhere near or far to see what you may find and get up to.
Physical closeness is important to you, but it is not possessive, suffocating, or clingy, but gentle and warm like a shelter from the storm. Your marriage is airy and light, and even the ceremony that got you to this point may be very cozy and intimate, invites sparce and spaces dimly lit. It's a very solitary life that you lead, with little socialising outside your little bubble. Contact seems restricted to only family and a couple of long-time friends and little else. You could even choose to live in the countryside or farther from the hustle and bustle of lively cities.
Should you have children, you are a very involved parent, as is your spouse. Messes are happy accidents and you emphasise comfort and peace in your child, and encourage them to make good friends, and you may very well come to consider your children's friends bonus children who can trust you as safe adults when they have nowhere else to turn to. Neither of you are very hard on your children, and do not mind if they don't succeed at everything so long as they try and have direction all within themselves. You're forgiving and patient, both with your spouse and children. You would do particularly well raising a child of the opposite sex, masculines doing well at raising feminines and vice versa.
You may take longer to feel ready to date in general, or due to circumstances or personal issues have a delay in romance, but once you do stumble upon love, commitment is sure and stable and long-lasting. Many are likely to marry their first love or first serious partner, and others could experience the classic friends to lovers arc that slowly blossoms but then remains in bloom forever if cared for.
Additional details: paper planes, strategy and simulation games, chess, archeology, history, cartography, geography, museums, genealogy, family events (dinners, birthdays, weddings, baby showers, funerals), babysitting, cats and mice, twitch, youtube, memes, news, acoustic guitar, green, lotus flowers, blankets, sweet tea, conventions, comics, anime, cartoons, arts and crafts, sticks and stones, seaside, countryside, camping, hiking, road signs, numbers, dirt roads, pine trees, virgo/aquarius/cancer/libra, mars/sun/neptune/ascendant, january/march/july/september.

Shufflemancy: Somebody to you by BANNERS
As a spouse you are quite the little ray of sunshine, but also the sudden gust of winds of change. You are collaborative, and may serve as either the artist or the muse. Both, perhaps, as there is inspiration being exchanged between you and your spouse like sparkling water shared between two cups, clear and fizzy, as sharp as it is delightful and refreshing. You're enthusiastic and cheer your spouse on, loud and proud, supporting them in their trials and assure they have your arms to run into when they return with their accolades and treasures. You may easily get flustered, and try to avenge your spouse by attempts to charm and woo them in return, even if just to wipe the smug smile off their face as their bask in the glory of making your little heart flutter.
You may be a little needy, or quick to feel discouraged, but you're just as easily brought back to your feet with kind and reassuring words and helpful hands. You try your best to make yourself useful even in situations that are new to you, especially if your partner could use the help. You're able to laugh at yourself, but also communicate when the stumble actually hurt so that your spouse can kiss it all better. Regardless of your age, you will retain a youthful air about you, which will keep things interesting as you always find new adventures and things to share.
If you have children, you'll let them grow in whichever direction they best find the sun and rain to bloom in their time and their way. You love your freedom, and want to bestow it upon your child too, who will grow up to be very close with you and consider you a great friend and trusted confidante with whom they may share all their joys and sorrows without judgement. Some of you may not have children and instead raise fur babies, travel the world with your spouse, or create an alternative kind of family of misfits and kindred spirits amongst your peers.
You are very bubbly and sociable, and eagerly introduce your partner to your friends and make merry with theirs. You could really rejoice in the merging of your individual friend groups for the sake of building a community to call home. You enjoy exchaning favours, and have the mindset and desire of managing tasks between both you and your spouse and your community so that different strengths get utilised to combat defeat should somebody have to face big challenges they're not equipped to handle. So, though you may be called chaotic from time to time, you're still a good taskmaster and collaborator, who does not keep score, and manage your spouse and groups of people well even though things aren't colour coded and organised from A to Z.
Additional details: daydreaming, dream journals, streaming, paperwork, paint, coffee stains, red and blue, strawberries, avocado, live chat, chopsticks, van or camper or truck, packages, identity crisis, illness/medicine, learning, waiting, theatre, pets, money, siblings or cousins, slurpees, sushi, suburbs, small towns, interviews, phone calls, sneakers, broken windows, kpop and jpop, manga or manhwa, lore, toys, polar bears or bears in general, empty playgrounds, twitter/x, instagram, lost and found, wooden trinkets, herbs. capricorn/sagittarius/leo/pisces, jupiter/venus/uranus/vesta/chiron, march/june/august/october.

Shufflemancy: Dandelions by Ruth B.
As a spouse you seem to be a jack of all trades, the scales of justice perfectly balanced. Your diligence and the ease at which you tackle tasks, the perseverance you show despite life's challenges, and how you always get back up again when you get knocked down, all makes you a wonderful partner. You are goal-oriented, but know when to slow down and relax. You push your partner to chase their dreams, but know not to push too hard and when to offer up comfort and quiet reassurance instead.
You may have a little bit of a saviour complex, as you pride yourself in both your ability to help and your emotional intelligence. You are patient, and know that in life there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all, and you're uniquely able and willing to find missing pieces of puzzles so that everybody finds what works for them, and will be a healing presence to your spouse especially. Your spouse finds you to be a rock, but let's not kid ourselves and pretend you don't melt like butter when they pull you close and tell you to relax, and lull you to sleep with a heartbeat and fingers running through your hair. Your spouse is well aware of how hard you work and how heavy the burdens on your shoulders sometimes become, and insist that you are no Atlas, at least not in the sanctuary you call home where you may rest and recharge.
Should you have children together, you may settle into traditional or otherwise clearly defined roles and assure neither of you take on too much and both get to be involved in the life of your children to an equal extent. You're likely the problem solver and the one to help with the homework, and deeply encourage active and social pursuits to ensure your children grow up healthy and experience relationships with people of all walks of life. With the combination of you and your spouse, your children are likely to grow up gentle but quick to defend the underdogs and fight injustice. Assuring your children have access to options and opportunities as well as a safety net to fall back on should it be needed is something you will both make sure of. Note that this is the only group I have no alternatives for and sense no absence of children, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if you really do not want children, take double or triple the precautions.
You may enjoy home improvement or possibly have either you or your spouse working from home. You delegate responsibilities fairly and make consistent efforts to show your spouse your care and affection, especially through acts of service and the kindest of words when they are at their lowest. Though you are responsible and often do things by the book, there is a little streak of mischief and wanderlust that I sense, which keeps things interesting, making you a balance between homebody and explorer. You may have great banter with your spouse and frequently tease each other.
Additional details: car rides, crying, nerves, vhs tapes, siblings, young people, writing and rewriting, praise, headbands, flannels, glasses, family issues, guardian angels, cleaning, mermaids, rodents, deer, letters, arguments, flowers, office (work or the show idk), radio station, static, noise, real estate, architecture, mushrooms, pickles, salads, sleepless nights, muscle pain (or strain), sleepless nights, sleeping on the couch, glasses, hair cuts, lilies and elderflowers, soap, hugs and hand holding, patience, reluctance, overcoming fear, hearing music from another room, virgo/cancer/capricorn/aquarius, pluto/sun/venus/juno/union, june/august/october/november.

Shufflemancy: Slow dancing by Aly & AJ
As a spouse you like to be in charge, or wear the pants, so to speak. Somebody has to tell the waiter your spouse asked for no pickles, right? Though you have a dominant energy about you, you are very nurturing and full of love and care and can be surprisingly sensitive emotionally. You like to stay on top of things and have things to do, places to be, and you could serve as something of a secretary in your relationship. Your spouse can always rely on you to know what to do and to get the Christmas cards sent out on time. You have a taste for the finer things in life and enjoy indulging in these together with your spouse. You likely introduce your spouse to many new things, be it music, literature, politics, foods, or some lifestyle and habits you maintain.
You revel in the quality time spent with your spouse, though you're independent and encouraging of them living their life separate from yours too whilst you engage with your own endeavours. You are secure and loyal, and give your spouse no reason to doubt your commitment and you speak as highly of them as they of you, so shenanigans and misfortunes stay at bay. You may have only few but close friends, but keep them for life and they enjoy the company of your spouse. You may frequently host dinner parties or other intimate get togethers in your home with the few privileged to know the two of you.
As a parent you would raise well-mannered and good children, to whom you would teach many of your own talents and push them to hone and master their own abilities and take both their interests and responsibilities seriously. You have a close bond with children even if you do not have them, which for many may be the case, and you could instead together with your partner be very involved with the children of your friends or family and serve as godparents or the cool aunts/uncles. You may still teach these children valuable lessons and be an important adult figure in their lives, and possibly lend your talents to teach them new skills.
You may also work with your spouse, be it through a mutual or related field, literally sharing the same workplace, or by joining up to start a business together or works as collaborators on separate passion projects. You're highly encouraging of them and push them to pursue their goals and even wildest dreams because with you in their corner there aren't many places in the world they couldn't go.
Additional details: co-op games, cookbooks, bullet journals, weddings, calendars and memos, perfect timing, awkwardness, dogs and canines in general, horses, rapunzel, children, phone calls, electric guitars, drums, men and fathers, streetlights, stalking, power outages, doctor's appointments, pedagogy or social work, education/school, stage fright, long distance travel, reunions, road trips, ice cream, spicy food, alcohol, orange and pink, pearls, grapefruits and blood oranges, hot chocolate, lgbt+, anxiety or depression, archery, sleepovers, libra/taurus/leo/cancer, mars/mercury/pluto/descendant, april/may/october/december.

Shufflemancy: Comethru by Jeremy Zucker
As a spouse you are a natural in many ways, even, or especially if, you worry that you aren't. To your spouse you are a very nurturing and compassionate, gentle lover, who is intuitive and always seems to know the right words that they need to hear or the moment to hug them from behind and press your head against their tense and tired back. You dedicate yourself to being a source of light to your spouse, and tend to be quite romantic, albeit you get shy and blush even decades into the marriage when they return the sentiment. You learn quickly to express boundaries and communicate your needs to your partner if that has been a struggle in your past as they make a big effort to make sure you make your voice heard. You carefully consider their feelings, as they consider yours. You could as a couple have an almost telepathic connection, an inherent understanding and the blue print of each other's soul, knowing each twitch and micro-expression to know when the other requires assistance or wishes to leave a situation, etc.
You may find the role of a homemaker ideal, though you aren't without your own ambitions and occupational ideals. You could for a time be a stay-at-home spouse, or parent, but simultaneously engage with your own projects and end up working from home. You really make home feel like home, and your spouse finds relief and peace every time they return home. You have an eye for aesthetics and a way to make any space feel cozy, inviting, warm, and comfortable. Even though you are more of a homebody and like the solitude, your friends may rejoice in their visits and feel at home in your house and you could occasionally agree to host bigger holidays in your home, because really, nobody does Christmas like you do.
You are very clever and learn quickly, and your curiosity takes you on quite a few adventures in just one afternoon, and you enthusiastically share these wonders with your spouse and coax out their own adventurous and speculative side. You could spend hours talking and never seem to run out of things to speak of, but also find comfort in enjoying the silence. You're affectionate and like to be close to your partner, but eventually slip away as your mind begins to wander and take you in different directions. You have a youthful and ever-curious energy that your spouse delights in.
As a parent you would truly dedicate yourself to parenthood and rejoice in even the little steps and achievements of your little ones. You are doting, but not a doormat and find that your children trust and respect you without being told or taught to. You encourage your children to think for themselves because you value logic as much as feelings. Good reasoning skills and the ability to judge things on a case by case basis is something you will instill in your children. Your children are likely to grow up very independent and just the right balance of kind and clever to be an asset to society. Both you and your spouse share a deep distaste for the state of the world and are dedicated to raising children who know wrong from right and don't blindly follow anyone or anything and have the wires between head and heart connected. You and your spouse may both do a lot to improve your community and work to eventually leave the world better than how you found it.
Additional details: tears, keys, incoming text messages, psychiatry, therapy, home, teaching or writing, good luck, headaches, cramps, horror movies, haunted side of youtube/tiktok, conspiracy theories, stim toys, minecraft, rabbits, birds, cats, hoodies, grey and blue, energy drinks, vitamin water, winning, brownies, pancakes, soup, winnie the pooh, lion king, 2000s cartoons/music, fuzzy socks, beaded curtains or string lights, green or hazel eyes, candles, intuition, dust, sleet or snow, cold/grey/dreary weather, iron and vitamin d deficiency, water colours, astrology, vanilla or coconut scent, bubble baths, gemini/cancer/virgo/scorpio/libra, jupiter/neptune/moon/lunar nodes, february/may/june/october.

last year i wrote a list of media that touched me. bcs i have shit for memory i was noting down things i watched, played etc. this year. so here's the list.
the city and the city by china miéville - loved it...
the longing - idle game that felt quite promising in the beginning. you play as a lonely shade that has to wait 400 days for his king to wake up. it can get kinda weird and idk how i feel about this anymore.
rain dogs - extremely bleak life circumstances, intense toxic friendship. 'fast food isn't good for you. but i fucking love it'
deadwood - very intriguing way of plotting a story of a settlement but some things abt were fucking stupid and i'm still frustrated when i think abt it. haven't finished the final season and i don't really feel like it.
vanished birds <- read this or else
dungeon meshi - most beautiful art with dynamically drawn creatures and beasts that then get shown being cooked into delicious (and nutricious!) meals in great detail. setting is a spoof of a stereotypical party adventure world but it tries to make sense of its rules and creates in turn something quite unique. great characters too.
wuthering heights - extremely good narrative device. never knew that we learn this story through a tale being told by a servant to some cringey guy. surprisingly well depicted psychology of the characters. reading abt child abuse upset me so bad. society will fuck you up. some ways to better your lot are closed to you based on your gender and race. fucking up people over generations. also moors. they're important.
ghost in the shell
barry - the fact that the show never lets him forget. the satire on show biz, loving the veterans. it's like a more clownish version of breaking bad in a way (both being concerned with morality). characters are caritaturish but everything they do is taken extremely seriously. also it's quite inventive with filmography. solid. loved it.
sangfielle - weird fiction arc of FaTT podcast.. extremely good setting
andor - they didn't lie when they said star wars can be good. abt opression and imperialism.. and droids done well.
repo man - plotted in a very fun way... unforgettable ending.
hellraiser - it was so promising. shouldn't have turned into tense rubic cube solving under most dire circumstances ever imo.
bg3 - the themes have made me insane. it managed to be cohesive. it's the. carousel of violence. cycle of abuse. relationship with power. trusting the other not to use violence against (even though they could). male manipulators. the dark urge. it's not without its faults and it should have been tighter (durge should be the main protag and no tav, chop down act 1, erase halsin)
the terror - such a mixed bag. a very good and tense thriller about imperialistic hubris but. they put a beast there. and the villain was??? idk man.
iasip (well technically i've been trying to watch it for years, but this year alone i watched like 4 seasons or maybe more) - i simply love iasip. its style of comedy that is irreverent. the mad schemes. awful dynamics. touching real darkness.
blowback (podcast) - about american imperialism. first season abt iraq war tone-wise feels like if behind the bastards and citations needed had a baby. recommended.
roadwarden - loved it. loved the setting!
anyway... i kinda stopped reading books after i quit my job (no longer commuting somewhere regularly so i stopped using my kindle). had plans to watch more movies but it's always a struggle to sit down and start watching. went to more than 0 galleries but not that many tbh. i sometimes don't know what to say and most of my comments are still pretty general and feel trite.

talk about a real throwback if you remember these old forms then you get a cookie for it!. So back in my early internet art years my first major fandom was Danny Phantom and as it was standard I made ocs based on the future of the show.
DJ was my first he was gonna be the son of Danny and Ember (a really popular ship at the time) but another friend told me to go with Dan (Evil Future Danny) cause it wasn't as popular at the time. He’s been the same personality wise for years; out going, pushy, sensitive and kind (you don't see it that often since he hides it under his bravado). But now he explores his gender identity quite a alot going between both binary and non binary but he tends to leans towards male but quickly jumps to female, both or none.
And his creation lead me to KP ( @theinsanecrayonbox ) who also had a Dan and Ember kid and suddenly I found my soul mate and we’ve been going strong for like 18 years now (that’s more half my life!) And he’s been my favorite oc ever since. His design changed a bit more over the years and now he’s in my own personal story (Tipping the Scales) but I’ll never forget how important and special his creation was to me it helped me really stretch my creative juices and helped me be part of a big fandom for the first time. Also he helped me find some of my closest friends so yes the boy means the world to me.
Katty was the child of Johnny 13 and Kitty and was basically just a mini Kitty tbh, but thanks to KP and few other folks she did get a lot of what carried over into her current iteration; she’s bubbly, loyal to DJ to a fault and has a darkside you don’t want to be on. She changed the most of all three of them designwise since I always struggled to find a look I think worked for her but I finally found one I’m very happy with and she’s never looked better! Only thing she kept form her first design are the two toned eyes.
Techna was me tossing three characters together to make a unique child tbh Penelope Spectra and Skultech. Basally she’s always been the brains' of the group but in later years I’ve used her to explore what being “human” really means and had her question her own identity a lot (she was originally A.I in the current form) so she’s just in general a fun character to play with.
So yes here are my main 3 I love them forever! and yes DJ has always been the shortest.

In defense of drag:
Drag is an incredibly important art form, as are all subversive forms of expression. However, this is especially important to a historically marginalized community of which I am a part, and I will not stand silently by as it is needlessly targeted and regulated by fear-based ideology.
Dolly Parton is Drag. Liberace, Eddie Izzard, Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Harry Styles and soooo many other cultural icons have played with society’s boundaries of gender expression with impunity due to some other asset they’ve offered or privilege they’ve been afforded.
Your local drag performer is no different. Neither is the 12 year old who secretly plays dress up with their sister’s clothes, or longs to express themselves in their own unique way. Their freedom to follow that impulse is just as important to the culture at large. The damage that is done by sending a message that their self-expression is harmful, unwelcome or indecent is far greater than attending a drag story time or being exposed to the art form in mainstream culture.
I’ll admit that I was once turned off by drag because of the discomfort it espoused. It was initially unsettling seeing men subvert the societal box imposed upon them. It seemed dirty and vulgar, and I wanted nothing to do with it. It evoked the shameful feelings of internalized homophobia that I felt as a child when I overheard my parents being chastised for letting me play with dolls or take ballet.
The very sight of it made the toxic masculinity that had been insidiously pressed upon me my entire life bubble up from my gut in a suffocating pall. I’m not ashamed to admit that I once felt that way so others who still feel that discomfort know that it’s okay to feel it at first - that’s sort of the point.
I’m eternally grateful that I had a dear friend basically force me to watch RuPaul’s Drag Race from the beginning, and to say it changed my life is an understatement.
It enriched it.
Becoming a patron of drag not only broadened my worldview but also enhanced my sense of humor, beauty, and whimsy. There is nothing like the awe-inspiring experience of seeing an exquisite drag performer like Violet Chachki up close and personal, or literally rolling on the floor in uncontrollable laughter from the brilliant comedic offerings of Jinkx Monsoon or Bianca Del Rio.
Drag fearlessly and fabulously plays with the foibles of this unruly thing we call society. In the words of the infinitely wise RuPaul Charles, it engages the “tenacity of the human spirit”.
I’m no longer ashamed to admit that I was that 12 yr old boy who made dresses out of blankets and strutted the imaginary runway in his bedroom. There was absolutely nothing sexual or pathological or perverted about it - it was innocent and pure self-expression. It’s also important to note that these harmless impulses arose naturally, not due to any exposure. It wasn’t until much later that I learned about the drag community. How much easier my adolescent years would have been if I could have seen society validate that, even in the smallest way. I no longer find it dirty or twisted or wrong.
All I can see now is courage and truth.
For those of you traditionalists who are still clutching your theoretical pearls I will leave you with this - I simply do not enjoy or connect with the great American sport of football.
I’ve given it the ole’ college try! I’ve gone to games, had friends and family members explain it, even tried to follow fantasy leagues and betting pools in order to understand the appeal.
After thorough investigation, I can pretty confidently say that it’s just not my bag. However, I can’t stop the fact that football is simply everywhere. It’s on TV when I go out to eat, it’s the daily conversation topic of my co-workers, it’s the event that completely took over my city a few weeks ago.
I can still acknowledge and respect how important it is to some people, not to mention the Herculean athletic stamina and strategy required by its players.
That said, if I were in some alternate universe where legislation was introduced to regulate the right to have tailgate parties, middle and high school football teams, and /or publicly celebrate this fundamentally American sport, I would be in full support of appealing it. I would fight for the existence of something that is important to a large swath of society—even if I cannot understand or connect to it.
To put it simply:
**YOU DON’T HAVE TO ENJOY OR ENGAGE WITH DRAG TO SUPPORT IT**
However, denying others the right to do so or attempting to eradicate/control it in public spaces sends a very scary and pointed message to people like yours truly. It also denies the simple fact that our society is a rich tapestry made up of many vastly different interests, tastes, and communities.
These things simply MUST be allowed to be expressed freely, otherwise we start toward a very slippery slope of a society where maybe something that you love and cherish will one day be deemed unfit for the mainstream culture.
I implore you to keep an open mind, and listen to those who are speaking up about this.
We are good, we are valid, we are important. So much of the culture you enjoy originated in queer/marginalized communities. Please allow us our freedom to keep creating - I can assure you that you would not like to live in a world without it.

some thoughts on relationship anarchy
I am very fascinated by the concept of relationship anarchy, but I'm not sure I quite understand it.
I--well, I tend not to like using the term when asked to explain my political position, as it can simplify my views a bit much and it comes with some, uhm, unfortunate notions, that I don't wish to associate myself with, but, ideology wise, I would identify myself as an anarchist.  And as anarchism is a philosophy, and I don’t think that’s too grandiose a term,  that's intent on abolishing all oppressive systems and hierarchies, people who are in favor of that, also tend to lean toward preferring liberation from all sorts, even systems that aren't necessarily inherently oppressive.
It's also why I'm, as previously discussed, fascinated by gender abolitionism. Which isn't something I deem as an absolute necessity, but that I personally think would be to benefit. Anyway, the point is, that's how I was also introduced to the idea of relationship anarchy.
Now, relationship anarchy is the application of anarchist principles to relationships, so it's quite explicitly anti-amatonormative, anti-hierarchical, and usually, but not necessarily so, non-monogamous.
The term was coined by Andie Nordgren (a Swede, yay!), or at least popularized, in her essay; "The short instructional manifesto for relationship anarchy" (which you can read yourself here; https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/andie-nordgren-the-short-instructional-manifesto-for-relationship-anarchy…), thst includes eight points that make up this philosophy.
Tumblr media
My confusion arises when it is either vague or stuff that should be obvious in any relationship. One of the points is that love is abundant and every relationship is unique, basically that romantic relationships are not more important than friendships, which I like.
Tumblr media
I've talked about it before (on Twitter that is), how I don't understand how people just get over their romantic love whenever they find a new person and the same applies here. I don't like viewing people with preconceptions or labels, as just people who satisfy my certain needs, if that makes sense? I think we should be able to love multiple people at the same time, I don't think any relationship is inherently more valuable than the other, but at the same time, not ranking or comparing relationships at all seems a bit off, cause obviously we'll just like some people more? But, if I've understood it correctly, is it just that a romantic relationship shouldn't inherently be the primary one of yours? This makes sense, but if it's that all people in our lives we should care for equally, I mean, that's just not the case.
The next point, I won't go through them all, don’t worry, but it is "love and respect instead of entitlement", that we should let our loved ones choose their own paths that keep their integrity intact without stopping them just so they'll fit our needs. This I 100% agree with.
Tumblr media
I have always been for open relationships. It just makes sense to me. Even as a child, well, maybe not a child, but a young(er) boy. Altho, keep in mind that these are just my views and how I interpret my own feelings, by no means am I saying this is how it should be for all.
But, to me, love is unconditional. If it’s not unconditional, it’s not love. So if your relationship is love and it’s unconditional, then that’s the definition of open. You care about that other person. As soon as you say, ”alright I’ll do this for you BUT here’s what you have to do in return”, it’s no longer love, it’s a deal now. It's a negotiation. You do this for me, I’ll do that for you. So if it’s really love, it has to be an open relationship.
Whatever that person needs, whatever they feel that they have to do, whatever they need in order to learn and grow and experience, you need to support that because you love them. And it’s not like, ”oh I’ll support this much of it but these other things, nah, that’s off limits you can’t do that”. Well, that’s a conditional relationship. But, ofc, open relationships sound very scary because there's fear that you won’t get what you want or what you need or that what you have will disappear. But that comes from a fear that if you don’t control things they will bite you. It’s this idea that we have to control everything for it to come out the way we want it to. And yes, open relationships automatically do mean that your partner(s) can go have sexual and romantic relationships with other people if they so desire. Ofc, you can still cheat if you just lie and hide it and stuff, you know, but yeah. This means I am also for stuff like polyamory. I don't mind monogamy, but more than one actual romantic relationship might be a bit too much to juggle for me, so I might just stick to open. But then again, I'm not even in a relationship with one person yet, so no rush lol.
But now, back to the relationship anarchy manifesto, every other point is more or less just obvious stuff, like trust and communication are key? Yeah, that's how every relationship works.
Tumblr media
And it just kind of makes me confused about what the difference then between open relationships and relationship anarchy really is unless it's just that very first point that all relationships are equal?I am very fascinated by the concept of relationship anarchy, but I'm not sure I quite understand it.
Having read up on this concept a bit, I think I understand it now.
I understood the idea of not valuing a romantic relationship higher than a platonic one, but then I wondered, how about if you just like spending more time with your romantic partner? Especially when it's all new and butterfly-like.
I agreed with the idea that a romantic relationship shouldn't inherently be the most important one simply because of its nature, but was relationship anarchy implying that I should value all relationships equally as if
I like all of those people the same amount and want to spend an equal amount of time with everyone?
This was my initial confusion, but I got it clarified that relationship anarchy is not saying that, in fact, the opposite.
All relationships are relationships, so you should treat each relationship/person the way the specific situation calls for, the way you want to. And if "the way you want to" strengthens the autonomy of other people and yourself, it’s hard to go wrong.
More not valuing the romantic relationship more simply because that's the socially expected hierarchy of relationships, but valuing whichever relationship more just based on whichever one you want to spend time with at the moment, regardless of norms of how it should be.In other words, rather than having a relationship that you assign to the class of "platonic friends" or "romantic partners", each relationship begins without any rubric, and together you figure out what you want to do together.
Your relationship is a unique element that needs to be understood on its own terms. Maybe that's picnic buddies. Maybe it's playing video games and occasionally kissing. Maybe it's talking on the phone once a week.
Maybe it's you cheering them on whenever they find a new relationship. What subjects do you talk about, and are there any that you avoid? The point is that these aren't external prescriptions for how we ought to conduct our relationship.
And I like that. I've always felt that I want to meet people and connect with them on whatever level feels natural; so there should be no preconceptions about how this may happen. I do not want to care about labels. I do not want to pre-determine what kind of relationship
I may have with another person; neither because of relationships that I already have, nor because of looking for a certain kind of person. I just do not want to view other people in a functionary fashion, as people who satisfy certain needs. For example, there may be someone who you really enjoy spending time with, who you share amazing chemistry with, who makes you laugh like no other, and who you have amazing sex with; but because of their internal demons, the issues they need to work through or simply their peculiar idiosyncracies, they may not make a suitable partner if they were expected to fulfill the role of a typical monogamous partner. Maybe they have substance abuse issues or something, or they may be on housing benefits, or not good with finances.
They may not share very many common hobbies. I'm just making shit up, I dunno, but the point is that they may not score gold on all categories, but for the categories that are relevant to the relationship, they may be wonderful.
And since resonant relationships are hard to come by, why ruin them because of socially imposed expectations? Why stop enjoying the parts of your relationship that do work for the two of you simply because they can't fulfill all goals that a typical partner should?
Or why necessarily drop an ex even as a friend, if a friendship works fine? It just feels nonsensical to cut ties with a relationship like this just because of their individual struggles or specific differences. We all have our struggles, and we can't all share the same hobbies.
Relationship Anarchy would be great because you're not adhering to societal needs. When you don't have specific societal needs, you don't put so much unfair expectations on this person. Then, you're able to enjoy the relationship for the beauty that it is.Really, people practice this kind of thing lightly already with not having kids or marrying their partners. I don't want kids either. I don't think I even want to get married. Having a ceremony and all sounds lovely, but requiring a church/state to legitimize it is fucked up.
No "higher power" should say yes or no to this kind of decision. I don't want to contribute to that. We could just say we're married. I guess there are financial benefits and other rights that might be worth it considering the situation but (another reason it's fucked up).
This is probably more complicated for someone who's more outgoing, one of the reasons I’m interested in poly is that I don't meet many people lol. I require a lot of time by myself and maybe can’t easily spend enough time with someone to fully meet their needs for intimacy, sex, or whatever. Being poly would allow my partner(s) to be free to pursue fulfillment, and you know, since I meet so few people, I’m not sure I can really afford to turn down a connection when the rare one occurs lol.
And people say, you know, but what about jealousy in a poly relationship? Well. Jealousy, like ALL emotions, is a guide. It's a compass trying to show you something about yourself, your choices, your fears. The emotion itself is neither good nor bad.
What you do with it is what's important. How you use it to make better choices. Since I meditate, I've naturally gravitated to the Buddhist approach to tackling emotions; "Remember that you aren't being jealous, you're feeling jealous."
Jealousy is not who you are, simply what you're feeling. It may not make it any less painful, but if you can know that it will pass, over time you will find it much less difficult and distressing to deal with. Then again, it’s not like I’m in a relationship or anything now either way, so it’s not urgent for me to figure this out. I just thought about it cause when I encountered relationship anarchy, it didn’t sound like a belief system: it sounded like common sense.
Like the way things 'are', like the way that everyone should think about the world and act. So, I was confused about how it was described as stuff that had apparently been figured out and was untypical in reality.
But that's the thing, right? When it comes to either life philosophies or political ideologies, if you've stayed pretty consistent most of your life and you then encounter those systems of thoughts, they just feel obviously right to you.Not to run a propaganda machine or anything, but it's why I'm so attracted to anarchism. Not just because I believe it's the most effective framework for understanding how the world works (which includes organizing principles, strategies, tactics, etc), but also because anarchism as an ideology has a bigger philosophical reach than most since its implications are also moral, they affect every aspect of my life outside just political work. How I conduct myself as a human being.
And as it ideally is, an ideology is not something you choose to support. It's who you are, and you finally just happened to have found a name for it, which can help you broaden your horizons in similar directions. But anyway, I'm just musing.

Finally back to making progress on the Literary Tarot Deck Challenge.
For anyone new to my tumblr, the Brink Literacy Project created a tarot deck with cards based on works of classic literature. Each card was selected by a contemporary author or comics/graphic novel illustrator who also helped write the guide to interpreting that card.
The challenge I’ve set for myself is to read each classic work and one thing by every author/illustrator. Including the fan-picked alternative cards, that comes out to 162 books.
Tumblr media
I just finished The Witch King by H. E. Edgmon. It’s a queer YA urban fantasy novel about a trans witch named Wyatt who is pulled back into the magical world he tried to escape. As a child, he was betrothed to the crown prince of the Fae who wants the marriage to go forward for the sake of the kingdom and his own heart.
The book deals with some pretty heavy content and Edgmon who is himself transmasc admits in the forward that it’s very much a vehicle for processing his trauma. But it’s also a love letter to queer identities in every combination.
The book’s cast also includes a bisexual ace Indigenous teen who identifies with womanhood and matriarchy but rejects European society’s construction of those two things. There is a non-binary lesbian freedom fighter witch. I also think there is also a solid case to be made that Prince Emyr’s soulmate bond with Wyatt is a a flavor of demisexuality but it’s not ever explicitly described as such.
Wyatt’s experience as a trans man is also different from the most commonly pushed narrative of a person “born in the wrong body.” I think it’s extremely important to have the representation of a variety of trans experiences, especially when drawn from the personal experience of that author.
Style wise, the writing reminds me of the Percy Jackson books, but with a more chaotic stream-of-consciousness, lots of memes, Gay Culture and teenage horniness.
I don’t think Edgmon always manages to pull off first-person present tense style well. The plot is rushed and we are constantly bombarded with one chaotic situation after another, and many times they don’t feel linked by cause and effect in a way that would be natural.
At the same time, this is Edgmon’s first book, and it’s level of dedication to portraying queerness in all it’s messiness and beauty is something you just don’t find in other books. He treats each character’s experience of identity and sexuality and something unique to them. He’s committed to the idea that there is no one way to construct gender and no boxes to limit sexuality. This is a book I desperately wish I’d had 15 years ago.
Edgmon does begin the book with a pretty thorough content warning and I want to include it here so people are aware without buying the book. There are instances of sexual harassment of a minor and one assault scene that is not graphic but it’s there. There is also a character who attempts to use his psychic powers to groom a minor. Bodily autonomy is a major theme and especially with the state of things in the US being what they are, this may hit close to home for some folks.
Again, Edgmon says right up front some of this book is rooted in his personal trauma but there is also a strong sense of the empowerment of that comes from reclaiming your pain. There is also an element of revenge fantasy that feels satisfying. If you’re the type of person who finds yourself joking about your own trauma as a way of coping, you’re going to relate to Wyatt.
I do plan to eventually read the sequel— The Fae Keeper— at some point. For all it’s flaws, I liked The Witch King enough that I’m willing to see if Edgmon grew as a writer between the two. If he didn’t, it’s a fast enough read that I won’t mind. I still want to know what happens next and spend more time with these supernatural disaster queers and their world.
If you like the “fated soulmate” trope and are down for a friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers-again romance, I honestly think it’s worth the read. If you’ve got an LGBTQAI+ teen in your life that could use a book that they can see themselves in, I recommend it for them too.
This puts me at 46/162 books. I’m not sure what I’m doing next. I know I was supposed to tackle Whitman but am trying to keep up with my book club, Dracula Daily, and finish the Daevabad Trilogy so I may just try to knock some easy reads and short stories off the list.

☾✧゜BTS Tarot Reading: a peek into their S/O energy ☾✧゜
Pairing: none, this is a tarot/oracle reading.
A/N: I used the divine feminine deck for this reading. Please do remember that every tarot reader’s relationship with their decks are unique thus it may vary the interpretation of the cards. This reading is for entertainment purposes only; the energy channeled may refer to a present or future partner. Whatever outcomes of the reading doesn’t mean ultimate truth and we should really respect the member’s dating life as fans.
Kim Seokjin ☾✧゜
Mai Bhago: resources; warrior.
So i feel like this is someone that might have to fight for him
Someone that will stop at nothing to get him to open up.
Cause I mean sure, either way, Jin is so far up in the ‘people that will never be your boyfriend’ list with the way that BTS has grown but I feel like this is so much more than that.
I feel like
It’s not hard to get close to him, but it is hard to get him to open up to the idea of someone loving him for him and not for what he’s accomplished.
idk if that makes sense (?
Lakshmi: abundance
As soon as I laid eyes on this card I got the idea of someone with all that bread.
Not sure if it is inherited wealth/ wealthy family or self made
But definitely someone that has the necessary resources to live comfortably
And also this adds up to them being able to make Jin open up
Cause they are definitely not using him for money.
Which is a big relief for him.
Rita of Cascia: impossible causes.
Definitely someone that doesn’t run on the same circles as him.
I thought: hmmm maybe a fan (?
Or possibly someone that doesn’t necessarily has the time to date
But most definitely has the intention to love Seokjin with all their strength.
Min Yoongi ☾✧゜
Rita of Cascia: impossible causes
Hello we meet again.
But with a diferent connotation.
This is someone whos strong will puts us all to shame
Like really
Someone that gets their mind on something and will most definitely get it.
Very in tune with Yoongi’s energy.
Lalla: spoken words
I feel like this is someone that has gone through their life trying to heal
And succeeding
“I am the writer of my own story”
Some one that doesn’t fit into the ‘traditional’ way that they are supposed to live.
VERY straightforward.
I also thought of someone spiritual, a manifester of sorts.
Kali: mother of the universe.
LISTEN I’ve said how this one is someone non traditional
Now hear me out
I saw this card and thought well we are looking at someone not gender conforming.
I can even go as far as say that is is someone part of the LGBTQ+ community.
“It’s time to be the truth of who I am”
If you put 2 and 2 together, I can say that this is a healing presence for Yoongi, someone that will make him tune in into what he really likes, who he is.
Jung Hoseok ☾✧゜
Lalita: happiness
This made me so soft
Sunshine got his own sunshine
“Laughter leads me back to the light”
Very positive vibes for this one
One of those people that is impossible not to like
Just like him
Sarada Devi
“The presence of love is the absence of judgement”
This is definitely someone open-minded
In many ways
Someone that has no trouble with Hobi’s way of life
As in
He had to cancel last minute because there’s this thing at the studio? Sure no problem.
They don’t doubt one bit his love and devotion
And understands that they are not walking the same path
But rather walking each of their paths together.
Vajrayogini: liberation
A carefree soul
I feel like this someone is helping Hoseok feel free again
As in
Don’t get him wrong he loves doing what he does but sometimes your career ties you down
But all of those are gone with them.
A fourth card popped up: Mary Magdalene
Along with all those things, this someone is someone very down to Earth
They know where they stand
None of that getting their head get full of it for dating Hoseok
They are themselves and will stay themselves no matter what.
Kim Namjoon ☾✧゜
Marguerite Porete: mystic
Right off the bat, a soulmate connection
I’ll have to say soul family at least
A very divine love
Not like codependent but very very into each other
Shekinah
I feel like most probably this is a female, or someone that identifies as such
Also
Namjoon president? very much so
This is someone important
I see power
In like- a position wise type of way
I’ll go as far as to say a diplomat cause it’s what comes to mind
Or a business executive
Someone well respected within their own little world
Definitely someone Joon looks up to
Rita of Cascia: impossibles
What’s with these boys and this card
So again, I’m sensing fan or just someone that is not a celebrity
Public figure? sure
But like I said, they run just within their own circle
It also came to mind: foreigner
So yeah, i endorse my thought of a diplomat.
Park Jimin ☾✧゜
The Cosmic Egg
Listen I’m not surprised to get such a card from this man
This is indeed a soulmate connection
Also, filled with lots of love
But mostly like- demonstrations of love
I don’t wanna say they’re that couple full of PDA
but it’s what comes to mind
Teresa of Avila
DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS OKAY
But I feel like this is an already existing relationship
they keep to themselves
a very NON PUBLIC relationship
I feel like they don’t feel the need to announce it to make it more real
They vibin’
a very soft and chill connection tbh
Machig Labdron
So I feel like these two have known each other for long
This is someone that Jimin has helped through hard times
Chimchim is a healer within so I sense that he has helped them
“I see light in my own darkness”
Also I feel like they’ve had a troubled past that has turned into love
Jimin was the light that helped them see their true lovable self.
Kim Taehyung ☾✧゜
Mira Bai: true freedom
Okay so this is someone VERY independent
Although they love Tae to death, they know to love themselves first
I can see Tae being a bit intimidated by this way of thinking at first
But learn later that this is his type of person
Yeshe Tsogyal
It came to mind an academic
Whether it is a teacher or an investigator
That academia vibe
A true intellectual
Very curious about life and averything that surrounds them
Just like Tae
Tae most likely learns A LOT from this relationship
And is very fascinated by their brain
Kali
“I release all that doesn’t serve me”
This someone knows what they want
And there is just no way around it
Like the first card said, they love Tae but life plans are life plans
Someone that loves to walk their own path
A very grown-up vibe to them
And listen I don’t wanna fall into daddy/mommy issues
really
But I’m gonna go ahead and say this is some type of inner child healing for Tae
Two very similar POVs but with SO DIFFERENT perspectives
Both curious, but Tae’s comes from a child-like place whereas his s/o views it as something greater, the purpose of the universe type of way.
Jeon Jungkook ☾✧゜
Sehknet
This card was very straightforward with the message
Someone that has been through shit
Jungkook is their well-deserved break at all the trials that the universe has put them through.
“I am pure strength”
I also feel like this is someone that tends to be an avid activist
VERY VERY passionate
and definitely tired of everyone’s bullshit
an old soul, VERY VERY OLD
“I honor my anger by giving voice to it”
Pope Joan
WHEN I TELL U
this is someone spiritual to the BONE
“Soul is limitless”
I got the ‘I will turn the world upside down to find you’ vibe too
Like
They know Jungkook is their person
And honestly? They are thriving to just watch how the universe is trying to apologize to them by putting Jungkook on their path
Someone very wise, more so in the sense of life than academic type
Parvati
THIS IS A PAST LIFE CONNECTION
like- really really had it coming for both of them
“I am a love that doesn’t leave”
They are also very very committed to this connection
They put their 110% spiritual self on this
I sensed the ‘healer meets healer’ type of connection once they meet
Also
Since this is a very old soul I feel like their soul journey is almost over and Jungkook is kind of a legacy for their learnings.
As always I hope you enjoyed! Feel free to request any other general tarot reading! Have a great day! I promise I’m working on all my other requests, this reading just suddenly came to me and i just had to do it.

Hi! I was wondering if you could do a gender neutral MC coming out as aroace?
Woo! aroace pride! Y'all are always welcomed here! and if anyone says other wise they suck. Also should I write headcanons about queer platonic relationships??? Is that something people would want? Mc is gn!
Mc was so happy when they came to devildom, it seem that many expectations relating to romantic and sexual relationships where either non existent or very different then they were in the human realm. After while Mc felt fully comfortable with all the demons and members of the exchange program
Lord Diavolo had invited Mc over for some tea and conversation, and it somehow ended up on the topic of romantic relationships. They thought it would be a better time than any to tell him about their being aroace. Lord Diavolo just smiled brightly, moving over to give them a tight hug.
"Thank you for telling me and trusting me. I be not believe you ever needed a romantic relationship to be successful or 'complete'. Its a foolish thing really, I am so happy to be your friend."
After telling Diavolo, mc decided to tell Barbatos. They were baking together one day when they decided to bring it up, Barbatos gave them a small smile before nodding.
"I understand how that may feel, while it is not the same I am demiromantic... so I do support you fully. Platonic relationships are as important as romantic ones may be, and are as fulfilling"
Lucifer was working and Mc was helping him with it, by the time he was done with the large stack of paperwork he thanked Mc and asked if there was anything he could do for them. Mc simply asked him to listen as they nervously told him about their sexuality.
"Mc you do not have anything to worry about, I care deeply about you. It does not matter if you have sexual or romantic relationships. I'm happy you told me and trusted me enough to do so."
Mammon was always around Mc in one way or another, so there was plenty of times to tell him. They decided to after school when mammon was counting the money from his latest scheme, he was a bit surprised at first but quickly smiled.
"huh? Of course I still like ya, your my human! and my closest friend! that's never going to change, doesn't matter what happens!"
Mc was with leviathan and they were playing some video games together, it was over all a normal thing and since it was rare to find levi relaxed they decided it would be best to tell him then. He looks over to them once they said it, looking a bit confused to why they were so nervous but smiled.
"Huh? well romantic subplots can be really boring and forced alot of the time. The action and story is always so much cooler anyway! Now, I know this super cool anime I know you'll love!"
Satan was going through the library with Mc sharing a few books he enjoyed, they spent the evening reading and sharing interesting stories and after a bit he shared one with an aromantic protagonist. given the he like the protagonist they shared that they where aroace. Once he knew he recommended a few other books without romantic subplots and aroace characters.
"Sex and romantic love is not what makes you human, all animals do such things. If anything cooking food is what makes you human, so do not let what other people may say affect you and if they are bothering you I can deal with it."
Asmodeus always respected Mc comfort level with physical touch and his more suggestive talking. Once they did tell Mc, he immediately was over the moon that they told him. Giving Mc a ton of compliments and praise.
"Yes sex is a beautiful thing, but so many other things are beautiful. Including you, and if anything this makes you even more beautiful. Thank you for telling me, and I promise to make sure you are comfortable everyday."
Beelzebub was such a sweetheart, and was making Mc some food when they brought it up. Which just caused him to give them a big hug as he smiles brightly.
"Your part of the family... I'll always care about you. I'll do anything to make you feel safe there... cause you mean so much to me"
Belphegor was cuddling Mc, and almost had fallen asleep on top of them. Both of them were relaxed and Mc told him about it, and belphie opened his eyes looking at them before cuddling them more with a small smile on his face.
"Well.. It's not like cuddling is a romantic thing.... and well we are friends are we not. you did trust me enough to tell me... which is really nice... and hey, if any dumb humans try to tell you anything bad about it I'll kill them for you."
Simeon was sharing a recent small story he wrote with Mc, It was a nice moment between both of them and he could tell that something was on Mcs mind so he asked. Mc told him about it, he was fully supportive.
"Humans are all unique and diverse, that's what makes you wonderful. It doesn't matter if you are different then other, you are perfect the way you are."
Luke was such a sweet child, and overall never really knew why people would think that romantic relationships were something you needed. So it wasn't surprising at all when he fully supported Mc.
"ohhh, that cool!! Your like one of those heros from the shows! The ones that do stuff through the power of friendship... t-they aren't kids shows! I-i'm not a child!"
Solomon was teaching Mc a few spell in their spare time, they were goofing off and just having fun. After a while Mc decided they trusted solomon and told him. He asked a few questions about their comfort level and was mostly just happy to know about it.
"i've met a lot of people in my life and have had a wide range of relationships with them but are friendship is one of the best i've had in awhile. I wouldn't want anything to change about that, so I'm extremely happy you feel comfortable with me enough to share this."

The Goonies: A Product of the Times
Released in 1985, The Goonies came along right smack in the middle of a decade well-known for its movies centered on youth.  While there are plenty of fond memories of the ‘teen oriented’ films like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Adventures in Babysitting, Hollywood of the 1980s was focused on more than just the teenagers: it was also pretty heavily focused on what it was like to be a kid.
From Flight of the Navigator, The Explorers, and The Monster Squad to E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial, a lot of the films of the 1980s were about the adventures of people under the age of 14: children.  Ranging from sci-fi to comedy, to horror, to adventure, the movies about kids during this decade of the new and untested were getting as big as everything else: more and more impressive as an entire subgenre of children’s movies starring up-and-coming child stars (Drew Barrymore, Fred Savage, River Phoenix, Corey Haim, and plenty more) sprouted up out of the ground, playing the gambit of genres and allowing children to act in ways that hadn’t been deeply explored before.  These weren’t adult films with roles for children: a lot of these were movies about kids.
Tumblr media
Instead of movies like The Champ or Aliens, starring children in side roles, films like The Goonies, Return to Oz, Stand By Me, and Time Bandits starred kids in the main roles, carrying the stories themselves with incredible performances, broadening the horizons for adventure films about kids, for kids.
Such is The Goonies, a film that really could only have been made in the 1980s.
How do I know that?
Simple.
As we’ve discussed before, no film ever made is separate from the culture it was created in.  Every single movie, television show, radio broadcast, book, newspaper, comic or song ever made has been directly impacted by the culture and other pieces of media surrounding it.
Tumblr media
This seems pretty obvious: after all, a product made by people living in a certain kind of culture is going to reflect that culture.  No film is an island, and while that seems pretty self-explanatory and without much need for discussion, in an era with more and more pieces of media debated as to their worth to a modern viewpoint, it leaves those of us who enjoy older movies with a very important question:
How ‘dated’ is too dated?
It’s not as easy a question to answer as it might seem.
See, ‘dated’ is an interesting term.
Tumblr media
Typically, the word ‘dated’ is used to apply to anything discernibly created in a specific time period.  It’s synonymous with ‘old fashioned’, when applied to a film, it carries the implication that the movie is less understandable by those looking from outside that particular culture or time period, worsened by the cultural drift.  This would be a film that hasn’t ‘aged well’, most often describing contemporary films of the day.  By contrast, a film that’s considered ‘timeless’ is the exact opposite: a film that remains completely understandable following a change in the culture.  This is a film without a cultural footprint or identity, without any actual context, able to be enjoyed no matter how much time has passed.
These are words that get thrown around a lot in the film world.  There are plenty of arguments over which films are timeless, and which are dated, whether Die Hard shows its age too much to be enjoyed, or whether Commando is too ridiculously ‘80s to be watched in any other context, but the fact is, the argument is a lot more complicated than it seems to be boiled down into.
We’ve talked a lot about definitions, but the fact is, by strict definitions, no movie, or any piece of media ever made, is actually ‘timeless’.  Every film is a product of its times, but that does not mean necessarily that they are defined by their times.  With this in mind, films like The Terminator and Predator, while set and made in the 1980s, are not exactly dated, because they are not defined by the 1980s.  Anyone with the slightest understanding of the idea that times change can accept things like hairstyles, music changes, and special effects.  Like I said, a film is considered ‘dated’ if it is less understandable or enjoyable in hindsight, from a place outside of that specific culture, and things like the movie tips and tricks of decades past are fairly easily forgiven.
Less easily overlooked are ideas.
Tumblr media
If a ‘timeless’ film is a movie not defined by its own times, then a ‘dated’ one is a film that is defined by its culture, typically in a negative way.
So, the question is: which is The Goonies?
Timeless iconic kid’s adventure film, or dated ‘80s flick?
Well, it’s kind of hard to say at first glance.
Tumblr media
By externals, there’s no question.  The way the kids are dressed and Mouth’s use of the word ‘gnarly’ pretty clearly set this film in the mid 1980s, as does the fact that nobody has a cell phone to call their parents.  But as we’ve already established, there’s a bit more to it than that.
The cast is fairly typical of its day: all white except for Rosalita, the Spanish-speaking housekeeper, and mostly male.  The two female Goonies do allow for a little more range than is sometimes portrayed in kid adventure films, with a Tomboy and Girly Girl dynamic that normalizes more than a standard Token Female per group, and even Mama Fratelli (although by no means a role model for young girls) balances out by being a memorable villain, bringing the gender ratio a tiny bit closer to even than a lot of contemporary films.  With that said though, there isn’t really anything that I’d argue idea wise in this sense that dates the film terribly badly, aside from a series of fat jokes at Chunk’s expense and a moment where Andy is given the unfortunately expected treatment of having her date try to look up her skirt, which was considerably more shrugged off at the time (although she does get him for it later, offscreen).
And there are other elements too that indicate that this film is from a different time:
A PG in 1985 for a kid’s film was very different from a PG now, and it shows.  The language used by a lot of the kids, as well as the violence, drug jokes, and other material has proven to shock more than one fan who went back to watch The Goonies as an adult.  And that’s not all: the basic concept of kids banding together in this way, while making a resurgence in the form of Stranger Things, hasn’t really stuck around for very long.
Tumblr media
After the 1980s, the ‘band of kids’ adventure story somewhat died out.  By the 1990s, the ‘kid’ adventure stories calmed down, with lower stakes and less danger, and while the trope still appears in ‘retro’ nostalgia pieces, for the most part, we simply don’t see it anymore, and the idea still tends to bring to mind stories like Stand By Me, The Monster Squad, and even It.
It’s just a statement of fact, and not nostalgia, to look at this film and remark: “They don’t make them like this anymore.”  Because they don’t.
In most movies today, kids don’t run around in tunnels, having a blast and looking for buried treasure without their parents or any adult supervision, with their lives in danger, all the while quirky, peppy music assures the audience that everything’s going to be okay.  That’s not necessarily good or bad, it just means times have changed, and that the way that The Goonies was made was directly influenced by the types of movies coming out at the time.
However, while that style may bring to mind the 1980s, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s specifically enjoyed in that era.
Tumblr media
As a matter of fact, there’s a lot about The Goonies that’s like that.
The basic premise of the story, while not necessarily common anymore, is still understandable to people decades later.  Just because we no longer dress or talk like 1985 anymore doesn’t mean that the core essentials of the film are rendered completely unrelatable.  Kids still become friends and don’t want to move away from them, that much is understandable.  Even though the style of filmmaking has changed, the characters really haven’t: we all know a Data, or a Mouth, or a Chunk, or a Mikey, sometimes we even are one of them.  Kids understand the danger they’re in: not just losing their lives, but their homes, their friendships.  These characters and their story still ring true decades later, even if there are things about it that point to its creation being set in the mid ‘80s.
In short?
No, The Goonies probably couldn’t have been made today.  But that doesn’t mean it can’t still be enjoyed today.
Tumblr media
There’s surprisingly little that actually harmfully dates the film itself, and the film is, in many ways, just as exciting and fun as it was when it was first released.  Honestly, there’s the possibility that due to the lack of movies like it made today, the film actually has a larger impact and is more unique and memorable now than it was in 1985.
And while the quality of the film has not shifted, as the time around it does, I think we’ll find that as the film gets older, more audiences will continue to discover it, forty, fifty, sixty years later and find that the movie still tugs at a nostalgic part of them and makes them feel like children again.
The Goonies is a fun, exciting, charming story that has remained beloved so long partially due to nostalgia, but also because people genuinely love the story and characters, proving that a film is ‘timeless’, not because you can tell what decade it was made in, but because it has endured, because people still enjoy it after the culture has changed.
If you can watch The Goonies and love these characters and enjoy their adventure, it doesn’t matter that Mouth is wearing parachute pants or that some of the character cliches haven’t been used in thirty years.  In the end, a film’s quality has little to do with how easily we can tell what time the film was made in, and a lot to do with what it’s about, and how well people remember it.  If that’s the criteria, then The Goonies is pretty timeless.
Tumblr media
The Goonies has lasted this long as an ‘80s staple, and an adventure movie classic in general because no matter if it’s 1985 or 2085, people can understand it, enjoy it, and relate to the characters and themes.  And that’s the reason it will continue to endure.
It’s been over thirty years since those kids first trekked into the caves to save the Goondocks, and the audience for this film has done nothing but grow since then.  The characters and the heart of the film have gone unchanged since then, still entertaining and even touching audience members who remember what it was like to be a kid and want ‘their time’, and they will continue to endure for decades.
Thank you guys so much for reading!  If you have something you’d like to add or say, don’t forget that the comment box is always open!  I hope to see you all in the next article.

Entry 36: Chucking Infants into Pocket Dimensions
Before we go on to Conquest, I’m going to do the Birthright Paralogues. They all fit into a theme, in case you couldn’t tell, one that will cause three-four Supports per update to be centered on a new character.
So, between entries 20 and 21, Corrin and Kaze got married. That unlocked two new Paralogues. Now, for no reason in particular, let’s talk about how Paralogues worked in Fire Emblem Awakening. Halfway through Awakening, you learn that Marth, the mysterious masked swordsman who has been helping you out throughout the game, is actually a future version of Chrom’s daughter Lucina, who traveled back in time to stop her father’s murder. After the time travel sub plot is introduced, you can begin unlocking Paralogues by having the Shepherds marry one another. In each Paralogue, you meet one of Lucina’s companions, also a child of one of the Shepherds. In Awakening, the name and personality of the child was determined by the mother, but the father determined their stats, giving which units you pair up meaning. Now, the time travel children storyline wasn’t perfect, few things in Awakening were, but it at least made sense in the game. Awakening’s story revolved around two things: time travel and the bonds between units. And the child units fit in with that story and those themes, as well as giving important gameplay ramifications to the dating sim elements. Now that I’m done talking about the Fire Emblem game that heavily, heavily inspired the direction of Fates, let’s play the Paralogue that unlocks when Corrin gets married.
Paralogue 2: Dragon Blood
The chapter begins by showing us Kana, a mini version of Corrin with Kaze’s hair color, who talks about how his mother is going to visit today. Kana is attacked by spooky ghost men and Corrin, his mother, runs in to save him.
So, Corrin is a mother now. How, you might ask, considering the fact that she and Kaze got married mid-battle yesterday? Well, it’s simple. As the narration that played when Corrin and Kaze got married stated, Corrin and Kaze chucked their infant son into a pocket dimension immediately after he was born. And, because time flows differently in the pocket dimensions, he’s like twelve now. They also must have left Corrin there for nine months, unless pregnancies happen overnight in this world.
Now, this raises a few questions. Why weren’t these pocket dimensions ever mentioned or used in the story of Birthright? Why didn’t Corrin and Kaze stay with Kana to raise him? Who thought this was a good idea? And, sadly, none of these questions will ever be answered.
Kana transforms into a Feral Dragon and the battle begins. This battle features the gang picking off enemies in a large field. There are Dragon Veins to raise and lower the river levels, which may have made the map interesting, but I didn’t use them. Kana is a green unit during this chapter, but spent it stationary at the top of the map. On turn eight, two capturable bosses, a pair of idiot berserkers named Lloyd and Llewyn showed up; I captured one of them and killed the other.
Corrin gives Kana a dragonstone, Kana whines until Corrin takes him with her, and the chapter ends without me ever being given a reason to care about Kana.
Now, let’s go back to what I said about Awakening. In Awakening, the child characters worked because they were tied into the story. In this game, they’re tacked on in the laziest, most nonsensical way. I get why they exist, Awakening was a success and this game tried to replicate everything it did, but it just doesn’t work. In Awakening, the player has a reason to collect the children, to reassemble Lucina’s lost team. But, without that reason or any story significance, I am left apathetic at best and annoyed at worst towards these units. It especially hurts that this chapter gave me little characterization for Kana beyond “cute child soldier”.
Kana
Kana, Corrin’s child. Their gender is always the opposite of Corrins; because Kana actually has different Supports based on gender, I shall use the names Mana and Fana instead. Design wise, they where Corrin’s outfit, but with a blue scarf that looks like a collar. Both forms of Kana have terrible haircuts for different reasons. Kana’s personal skill, Draconic Heir, heals them if they have a dragonstone equipped; this makes Kana more dragonstone based than Corrin, who has an overpowered sword. My main problem with Kana is their personality, or lack there of. Kana is characterized as...cute. Cute and needy. Which is both boring, and again, kinda messed up. Worse, like Corrin, the game seemingly forgets their animalistic dragon form after this chapter, which is a waste.
Now, let’s talk about how child Supports work. All children have one Support with their father (or mother in Shigure and Mana’s case) and one with their mother. Because their mother is not set, the mother conversation is vague and rewritten with slight variations. I am not going to read the same Support ten times for each child, and will instead just read the Corrin version.
Support Fana/Corrin
C: Corrin finds Kana carrying boxes so she can earn money. Corrin asks what Kana needs money for and Kanna refuses to tell.
B: Kana buys Corrin a ring as a gift.
A: Corrin gives Kana a ring as a gift.
Review: I already didn’t like Kana and damn did this Support not help things.
Support: Kana/Mother
Odd thing I need to note about this one; Fana has a unique Support with Corrin but Mana just has the generic mother Support. It’s weird. I assume during planning the writers were told to have each child have one Support with Corrin, one with their mother, and one with their father, resulting in a Corrin Support that could only be used for one Kana. Still, it’s odd.
C: Kana picks their mother flowers. Their mother likes them, but explains to Kana that picking flowers kills them. Something Kana did realize, because child soldier.
B: Kana shows their mother pretty flowers.
A: The mother shows Kana the collection of flowers they've picked over time.
Review: The problem with Kana is that Kana is just cute. No other personality traits beyond “child”. This Support is fine, but it’s also dull and doesn’t make Kana a deeper character. Also, Corrin being a parent is weird because Corrin’s whole personality centers on them being naive, but Corrin as a parent acts calm and responsible.
Support: Mana/Father
C: Mana complains about Corrin always treating him like a child, when he wants to help her out more. His father tells him the thing he does to make Corrin happy. Kana suggests they have a contest on who can do the most things for Corrin.
B: Mana ties with his father in the contest.
A: Corrin tells Mana to stop doing chores and play with his friends who I haven't recruited yet. His father explains that Corrin just wants him to enjoy his childhood while he can. Mana insists his father relax to.
Review: I switched between Silas, Kaze, and Jakob while reading this one and had no problem following it, which goes to show that parents have all the personality of tofu in these ones. That said, Corrin wanting Mana to have a happy childhood is nice. Perhaps an attempt by her to ensure he doesn’t have a lonely upbringing like she did.
Mana and Shigure, Azura’s son, can also have a sibling Support. Not with each other, I mean, with other children.
Support: Kana/Sibling
C: Mana and his sibling start patrolling the camp.
B: Mana and his sibling continue patrolling the camp.
A: Mana asks his sibling to teach him to be stronger.
Review: I fell asleep while reading this one, causing this update to be a day late.
Now that I think about it, Man isn’t twins with his sibling. Mana is explicitly called younger in the B-Rank. Which means Corrin was pregnant for like two years between battles. Azura too, for Shigure to have siblings. Also, why were the kids placed in different Outrealms? Wouldn’t it make more sense to keep all of them, or at the very least the royal siblings and cousins, together?
Wait a minute. Did I just get through an entire update without a bad S-Rank Support? Is this what happiness feels like?

okay, so, the bella sara tarot deck. below the cut because it’s a LONG post.
My process: I decided to limit this to cards I physically own, even though all the newer cards do seem to be archived pretty well on the wiki, because I think shuffling and touching the cards is an important tarot aspect, and I wanted the deck to be functional. Not counting item cards and shiny variations, there are a total of 90 unique cards in the first and second series, the only ones I ever purchased, and luckily I have all 90!
Since there are 78 cards in a tarot deck, I had to pick out 12 to discard. I settled on several non horses (artemis the zebra, pedro the donkey, dino the dinosaur, kio the lion, treasure the seahorse, wavebreaker the dolphin), three foals (bellisimo, beauty, spottie), cajus for including a merman in the artwork, friends for featuring two horses and only one name, and dynamo because i simply felt the art style wasn’t very realistic and didn’t fit in with the rest of the deck.
From there I divided the remaining cards up by their “symbol” at the top. conveniently, there are four suits! I decided the heart best fit with the cups, the flower with wands, the moon with pentacles, and the horseshoe with the sword. Great. Then I dug through every pile and pulled cards I thought best fit each major arcana card, while keeping 14 of each suit to represent the minor arcana.
For the unfamiliar, bella sara cards feature a horse portrait, but also a little message of positivity. A little horse motto. It’s a strange franchise but 2007 was a weird time for all of us. I mainly used the messages to sort these horses, but aesthetics and name played a small role. I used this site’s description of each major arcana card to help because I don’t know that much about tarot tbh. all images from the bella sara wiki.
The Fool - Luna - “A wonderful and exciting world awaits you.” a few other cards mention having the heart of a child or seeing the world as a child, but this one really expresses the beginning of a journey, the openness to the world that the fool offers, if slightly more uplifting because. well. it’s bella sara.
The Magician - Tao - “The whole world is at your feet.”  i was kind of hoping for a card that was more about being unique. but the magician also represents having what you need to accomplish your goals and should set forth. world’s your oyster. at your feet.
The High Priestess - Santos - “Be mindful of your senses and your intuition.” was slightly wary of assigning a stallion to this role but gender is dead and the high priestess is all about intuition
Tumblr media
The Empress - Honey - “Create something beautiful. It will make you feel peaceful.” my first instinct was to make the titular bella the empress. But honey’s message about beauty, and her portrait surrounded by nature, won out.
The Emperor - Cantaro - “Develop your ability to lead. Ask a wise person for advice.” This card specifically mentions leadership and wisdom, a relatively easy pick.
The Hierophant - Angel - “Angel is coming. Make space and let heaven help you.” another pretty easy one, very few cards mention heaven or spirituality.
Tumblr media
The Lovers - Yin & Yang - “You always have a choice.” i considered discarding these two early on, but felt the message was too tarot-relevant to discard, and they fit very well here. the only card in our deck with two horses who aren’t a mare and foal, reminding you of choices.
The Chariot - Tai - “Be resolute and energetic in what you do.” wavered on this one for a while but I think resolve and energy are related to determination and drive enough for this to work.
Strength - Thunder - “I give you courage. Now you can release your fears.” this is one where the portrait was pretty relevant - a few cards mention courage but this one is the most forceful and strong about it.
Tumblr media
The Hermit - Mushu - “Find a peaceful place where you can gather new energy.” big hermit card energy, back away from it all and recharge
The Wheel of Fortune - Eagle - “See the world from above like an eagle.” fuck this card in particular. took me ages to find something that kind of matches, and even then it’s a stretch. the only real match here is that the wheel of fortune urges perspective, and so does this eagle colored horse.
Justice - Grey - “If you really want it, it will come to you.” this was a tough one too. The vaguely karmic aspect is appealing to pair this one with justice, but it’s still not the best match in the deck. i’m trying my best.
Tumblr media
The Hanged Man - Yasmin - “Retreat and gather new energy for taking steps on the road.” the hanged man is about cutting your losses, sacrificing something small to move forward, and letting go of what’s not working. retreat seems like a good fit.
Death - Chung - “Let go of pain and sorrow. The road will open and everything will go right.” assigning a horse trading card to death was not a task i thought i would face. but i kinda vibe with this pick - death is about endings and new beginnings, so it’s important to move past your pain and onto new roads. also, traditionally, death rides a white horse.
Temperence - Peace - “Those who don’t think of winning or losing have peace in mind.” kind of a weird one, hard to find a good match, but I think this patient, peaceful war horse fits.
Tumblr media
The Devil - Parlez - “Make a plan and commit completely to it.” crazy enough there really aren’t any uhhhhhh demonic horses in this children’s trading card series from ‘07. went with the interpretation that what traps you is your own unwillingness to move forward. also there is a skull on this horse’s forehead. kinda metal?
The Tower - Macon - “It is wise to accept that there are things you can’t do.” this card is one of very few that isn’t relentlessly positive and instead encourages you to accept failure. Let that tower, or stable i guess, crumble.
Tumblr media
The Star - Star - “It is not what you do but who you are that is important.” i simply had to. nice healing message.
The Moon - Sheng - “Understand the past. Hold onto the great things and move forward alone.” the description for this bad boy mentions not allowing worry to cloud your past or future, and this horse is all about parsing your past to move clear-headed towards the future. nice moon colored palette.
The Sun - Bella - “Think positive every day! Feel the bliss of joy and energy that comes with it.” here she is, the figurehead of our series, the queen of happiness, joy, optimism, energy... our sun.
Tumblr media
Judgement - Starfighter - “Believe in your vision and make it come true.” this was another tough match, i had to focus on the “you can change yourself and your future” aspect of judgement to make any of them fit, and this was my fave card that mentions vision.
The World - Sunny - “The wind blows. The sun is shining. Surround yourself with positive friends.” it’s not my favorite match, but it does have a certain element of being in the right place in the world, with a sense of completion.
Tumblr media
Okay! so that’s the major arcana. For the minor arcana, while i did put the cards within each deck into an order I thought fit the ace through king, I was far less particular than with our major deck. Went with vague associations instead of real connection to each card. I’m also not gonna list out all my reasons, because while I may be an insane person, I’m not quite ready to dedicate that much time to this weird, niche late night project. Pictured below is the ace of each deck.

Five - Charlie - “Make time to listen to your friends.”

Nine - Mermaid - “Laugh from your heart and feel the joy.”
Ten - Mandalay - “This is a magical moment. You can make a wish.”
Page - Jonathan - “It is time for joyful playing. Joy creates miracles.”
Knight - Lucky Light - “Always be clear and brave.”
Queen - Shadow - “Look withing yourself and love what you find there.”
King - Balto - “Happiness is a decision. Decide to be happy.”
And there you have it. the bella sara. tarot. deck. If you’re still here you’re either way too invested in assigning things to other things, procrastinating, or have fond bella sara memories from when the company was still out there, convincing us to spend several hours a day brushing virtual horses. PLEASE message me with your fond bella sara memories, or if you know about tarot and have suggestions/comments.
despite the insane time investment this took, i really enjoyed looking at all the messages and comparing them to tarot meanings. maybe i’ll actually do some kind of reading with it sometime! i don’t know a lot about tarot but i think it’s really cool and the concept of using silly horse trading cards to divine my future delights me.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Full Name: Kurai Amayo
Hero Name: Underworld
Age: 15-16
Gender: Male
Orientation: Pansexual
Species: Human
Occupation: Student
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Hair: Silvery almost white, worn kind of messy, and usually a bit unkept but somehow it still USUALLY looks good.
Eyes: Pure gold in color, sometimes seem to have catlike pupils but other times it seems to have been a trick of the light.
Complexion: Pale as hell. Constant dark circles under his eyes.
Height: 5’9
Weight: 130 lbs
Build: Slender, almost seeming overly skinny, but he’s healthy enough.
Scars: Several. Too many to really specify where.
Piercings: Double ear piercings (the lobe) (I ignore the one for his faceclaim that has his neck pierced too. Kurai just has his ears pierced.)
Face claim(s): Kadoc Lemlupus
BACKGROUND
Ethnicity: Japanese
Parents: Currently Unnamed parents, both villains (Open to fleshing out some info about them though if needed)
Siblings: Unnamed, two, a brother and sister (also both villains, or eventually will become them).
Pets: Fish
Education: UA Academy
Languages: Japanese, English
Abilities: Nightfall (vampiric + light manipulation) One from each parent; It’s not exactly a void, but he can essentially make an entire area around him within a certain range so completely dark that no light can pierce through it. It also somewhat muffles sound, since it’s one of those tangible yet intangible sorts of blackness. It’s heavy, and thick, but can’t be touched or cut, or dissipated (though if he is killed or knocked unconscious it vanishes).
The second half of his ability (or more accurately his second quirk, from the other parent) is more straightforward, giving him vampiric like physical boosts (some increased strength, speed). Permanently boosted because of his quirk (even when speed and strength are not): Sight and hearing (to a small degree).
Summarized Personality Traits: Shy and awkward but friendly, somewhat low self esteem, difficulty trusting others but wants to, constantly afraid people will shun him for his parentage. Seems antisocial, but really is just not the greatest with people. Likely keeps to himself mostly, or hangs around near people but never WITH them unless invited.
Other Important details to note: Most people have probably never seen his face properly because of his light sensitivity issues, and the fact he wears hoodies and sweatshirts with a special sheer face covering to minimize light. He does take it off sometimes though, and will reveal his face if asked to.
Also it's not due to his quirk, more his personality (he is often almost deathly quiet) and just kind of a natural thing from a number of factors, but he has kind of a diminished presence and tends to not be noticed unless he speaks. Some more observant people though will likely be more aware he is there. But it's part of the reason why he sometimes seems to suddenly appear out of thin air. He was probably already there, people just didn't realize it.
More detailed background information (and in depth personality and quirk info):
Kurai was born as the child of two villains (not giving them names currently, and they’re not meant to be any currently known villains). Neither were very important, but despite his parents alignment, Kurai never really took to the whole villain sort of lifestyle (he’s far too big of a softie), and eventually he ran away, and ended up applying to U.A., and managed to get in.
He does have difficulties still in this verse with being in bright places due to his upbringing (he was raised in mostly dark places), and almost always hides himself in a dark coat or hoodie, his favorite and most common ones having a sort of sheer black mesh covering the face to help with his light sensitivity, so most people have never seen his face properly without it being hidden in shadows. He’s not the greatest with people, tending to shy away from them. He’s also very skittish about being touched, and tends to keep to himself. He’s pretty convinced that if people find out his parents are both villains, that he will be shunned, and so he keeps it to himself. The school is aware though of his parentage and he had to go through extra steps to prove he wasn’t a villain himself before he was allowed to properly apply.
Appearance wise, he’s actually decently attractive, if a bit disheveled, apart from the constant dark circles under his eyes. Messy, rarely brushed silvery colored hair, and vividly golden eyes, his pupils sometimes seeming almost catlike, though it might be a trick of the light, or a manifestation of his quirk. He’s also got a little bit of an unusual slight point to his ears, and they sort of stick out weirdly, almost like a little elf.
His room is kept nice and dark, and all his lightbulbs have been replaced with blacklight bulbs, which are some of the only lights he can tolerate consistently, so his room has a rather eerie glow. Most of his belongings have some sort of glow factor to them (lighting under his bed, one of those blacklight glow fish tanks, lava lamps, etc), because he just really likes that sort of glowing, blacklit look. It’s also soft lighting so it’s something his eyes can tolerate.
Kurai has some unique quirks in the sense he got one quirk from one parent, but he also got a second one that sort of mutated from his other parent, so it’s not quite the same as theirs. Somewhat vampiric abilities associated with his tasting blood (rarely used because he hates it, but it boosts his strength and speed some), any kind of blood, and any amount, even a drop, for a short time. But more commonly, he has an ability having to do with light manipulation, causing the area around him to be engulfed in total darkness, as if his opponent has been transported into a void. Which is true in a sense, as some aspect of his ability seems to muffle sound as well, covering his movements when he’s in battle. If he uses both of his quirks, he can be a formidable opponent, but he’ll never be as powerful as some of the other heroes out there. His night vision is amazing, though his daytime vision a bit less so, unless he has one of his special hoodies on. His vision in general is a little sharper than most, and his hearing is also enhanced a little, courtesy of his quirk, but both are only slightly better than the average person, and not anything significant.
As for downsides to his quirks, his vampiric abilities tend to torture him more emotionally rather than having a physical downfall, though he can sometimes get tired and lethargic after his ability fades. His light manipulation ability has a currently limited range, as he’s still learning fully how to control and expand it, but currently he can basically black out an area around him within about 40 feet if he pushes himself. His void type ability also can be bested by someone who is able to sense body heat or movement by means other than sight or hearing.
As far as his actual personality, he’s actually really friendly if someone makes the effort to get past his fearful, antisocial seeming exterior. He actually really wants to be included in things, but he’s just really not sure how to go about it. He doesn’t see himself as someone that others would want to be friends with, because he grew up surrounded by villains who treated everyone like they were replaceable and everyone only cared about themselves. He’s almost far too nice for his own good, and he definitely has to work on his confidence in both himself and his abilities. He cares a great deal about those around him, but he won’t say anything most of the time unless presented with a situation he feels he has to. It most likely will take a little effort to get him to open up to others, and a little bit of persistence. If he does speak, he tends to speak softly, unless startled or frightened, and when afraid of something, his instinct is to hide in the closest dark little safe space he can find (such as under a table or beneath a bed). He absolutely hates bullying though, and when he feels confident enough, he will speak up, despite his fear of others, and stand up for people if he catches someone bullying another student.
He is slightly mentally unstable, hearing whispers sometimes in his ears, about how he isn’t good enough, how he should just give up, quit, how no one likes him, no one could ever like him, and other things like that. This is another side effect of his upbringing, his softhearted nature being a detriment to surviving such a childhood without some damage being left on him. He also rarely sleeps more than a few hours at a time, which is partly why he always looks so tired and why he’s always got those dark circles under his eyes.
He secretly would sneak out and do nice things for people when he was a child, even though he was punished and made fun of for it by those in his parents circle. The fact he couldn’t help himself from doing things like that, or from protecting animals or just doing little helpful things, was one of the signs he was not meant to be a villain.
He has two siblings, both older than him. After he ran away, his parents basically pretended like he didn’t exist anymore, because he disappointed them by being too soft and kind, and because he refused to use his abilities for villainous acts.
(I have finally figured out what his hero costume looks like. Feel free to ask me, and I’ll send some pictures.)
(This verse is still new and tentative so more info will be added as I interact with him with people.)

Quentin's NRC friends - Other OCs
Hey, I got more OCs to share. These are Quentin's friends at NRC, and I'm posting this before the backstory because I post my babies now, or I'll keep delaying it until that post is done, and it's taking longer to write than I expect.
Stupid Writer's lack of motivation and Tumblr deciding to keep reloading the page and making me start over.
Found Picrew link for Credit where it is due!: https://picrew.me/image_maker/43383
So, here's some more OCs I have. Sorry if it doesn't work on mobile!
Edit: Parts of Adahy and Dorji's profile will be changed to make it better because of some parts of Adahy's profile that I think are stereotyping and I judged Vil Schoenheit's competely wrong before the Pomefiore chapter came out.
Adahy Haida
Tumblr media
Full Name: Adahy Inuit-Haida
Nickname(s): Ada (by his friends at NRC), Adie (by Bucky)
Twisted from: Kenai (Mostly Early Movie) [From Brother Bear]

Least Favorite Food: Certain Fruits and Meats
Likes: Doing whatever he wants
Dislikes: Other people in his way of doing things
Hobby: Exploring Areas
Sexuality: Straight
Unique Magic: 'Brother of the Spirits' - Adahy can temporarily communicate with the Great Spirits, or any Spirit in his area and receive guidance, intervention or even a change (physical or mental) for about as long as the Spirit in question wishes, if any Spirit wish to speak with him at all. He can also communicate with any and all animals during this time, and also takes the form of a bear during this time, whether or not he is using it for the animals or Spirits, and loses the ability to communicate to human-like creatures. This typically lasts half a hour to a full day, but it depends on the Spirit he is dealing with.
Talent: Ridiculously Accuracte Sense of Smell
Personality: Adahy generally is a prankster, and beats to the sound of his own drum, despite really caring about others and their view of him. He is known for his pranks in Savanaclaw and other dorms and generally getting into trouble with people, which he often gets into major trouble with with fellow dorm members,  as Leona and Ruggie seem amused by his antics. Adahy is genuinely is a good guy if you get past his prankster and childish nature, he's a really good guy to talk to and be around because of his understanding with people and the world in general. He also is pretty laid-back and knows lots of secret places around campus to relax, but you have to get past his stubborn nature and sometimes crudes comments.
Background: Born and raised in the Northern Land of the Great Spirits, he grew up in a small tribal area inside of a Native American reservation in the land of Pyroxene. He learned the ways of his ancestors and was firmly taught about the Great Spirits as a child, making him semi-religious even to the current times. He lived a mostly good life, nothing to big happening until his coming of age ceremony, when he received his totem- the Eagle of Knowledge. And, figuring he knew basically everything in the reservation inside and out, decided to leave it without the permission of his leaders due to Adahy's stubborness. Which later ended up backfiring after he finally found a place to settle down with a new family, the broken Haidas which he managed to fix while he was staying there. The two families did manage to come to an agreement about letting Adahy stay outside the reservation, and keep in touch with his tribe. A while later, the father of family, Anuka insisted that Adahy go to Night Raven College to become learn about spirits and his spiritual powers because Adahy had such great talent in that department, despite not having much money to do so. The Haidas somehow managed to get him in to NRC, which Adahy feels bad for. But Adahy somehow managed to land a job at Sam's shop as a part timer and taking jobs around campus because he feels he needs to work hard at NRC as payment for his family's sacrifice despite all the homework he gets. He eventually met Ruggie, another person was in his class he often had jobs with and decided to form an agreement to work together because they often worked in similar spots. So, he can often be found around Sam or Ruggie. He also met Quentin while working around campus, and after a few interesting conversations with her started to hang out with her and her friend group, which at the time was just her, Agat and Dorji.

Hobby: Spying on People
Sexuality: Straight
Unique Magic: 'I Ail You' - Das can give a person a disease only he can cure and can fully control every part of. Which has been used for interrogation purposes, or for simply getting his friends to stop doing something. It's simple but very deadly since Das knows how to use it.
Talent: Looking Better than He Actually Is
Personality: Das is childish compared to almost every else in the school, so people often associate him with Kalim due to his trustinh, stupid and naive behavior that feels almost disgenious at Night Raven College. But no. He's just naive due to not being in the outside world until now. He's also really not that smart, and it's not that hard to tell just by his grades. But, he seems to be a good person despite not seeming like it and for what he does.
Background: Born and raised in a small faculty in the Cult of Mana, Das grew up learning very little and being taught to take what you have and don't ask for more. He grew up in an extremely religious household with family and friends he loved dearly and, thus grew up to be extremely passionate about his cult. But, he was not that important or even stood out from the crowd. Well, until he was assigned to track Quentin at Night Raven College for the sake of the cult. Which somehow worked despite Das having little magical talent. And for a while, he spied on Quentin by stalking her and stealing her things until he was almost caught by the teachers. To which he decided to make a deal with Azul, giving away his free time (because Azul thought his Unique Magic was worthless) in exchange for a book that would track Quentin's every move. Which, was later destroyed when Leona turned Azul's contracts to sand and forced him to make another contract with Azul. But this time, with Azul being warned by Quentin that Das cannot be left unsupervised with risking a chance of being found out had Overblotted by a dangerous cult, put Das under an even worse contract in exchange for an app on his phone that generally told him what Quentin was doing. Which, he genuinely hates Azul for now. But, he finds some solstice in Quentin's friend group that he kinda forces his way into when the group hangs out together.

Agat Circe
Tumblr media
Full Name: Agat Circe
Nickname(s): Agie (by his friends at NRC) Circe/Medea (by his village and family)
Twisted from: the Enchantress [From Beauty and the Beast]
Gender: Male
Species: Demi-human (Part Fae)
Age: 18
Birthday: September 29th
Star Sign: Libra
Height: 5'3 or 162 cm
Eye Color: Light Green
Hair Color: Golden Blonde

School Year: Third Year
Class: 3-C, Student no. 10
Occupation: Student/Enchanter
Club: Science Club
Best Subject: Magical Combat
Dominant Hand: Right
Favorite Food: Fruits
Least Favorite Food: Soup
Likes: Being alone, studying magical books
Dislikes: Crowded places, tests
Hobby: Wandering around old places
Sexuality: Bisexual
Unique Magic: 'Fairy Tale Magic' - Agat can make a spell or curse tailored to a specific person no matter the rules of magic. But, it has to be symbolic in some shape or form to work and he is the only one that can cast and dispel it.
Talent: Spell Casting and Lifting
Personality: Agat is not a social person. He tends to be found by himself in unpopular places, but he is a smart and good person despite the air he gives off. Agat is also a person who doesn't care for things all that much, but he actually is really good at understanding people and things. He acts more anti-social than he actually is, as he can sometimes be found spoiling his friends, as he considers his friends very precious to him. People are genuinely surprised to see a powerful enchanter acting like a regular teenager in front of his friends since he often doesn't do much in class, much to the teacher's dismay. Agat is very wise for someone his age, and often has good wisdom if you ask him.
Background: Agat was born of a fae and a human, who he doesn't know. He grew up in the Mystic Village, with his grandparents who were the town's wise sorcerers, so he grew up with lots of knowledge of magic and a good amount of resources to help him grow. Only, he wasn't a very well-liked child in the village because of his gifts, as most thought of him as scary or not someone they should interact with. So, he learned that magic isn't really all that great because people tend to be afraid of it. So, he learned to hide his powers from the village to to gain favor with them, which worked after a few months. Agat's grandparents sent him to Night Raven College, despite Agat wanting to stay in his hometown and he was sorted into Diasomnia, which further reinforced the lessons he learned about magic while in his hometown. Until he met Quentin, and later became friends with her who also started to teach him about Magic and people. And, because of the lessons she teaches, weither Quentin knows it or not, Agat decided to stick with her and her group of friends because he genuinely finds them to be interesting and great people to be around.

Best Subject: Transformation Potions
Dominant Hand: Right
Favorite Food: Flavorful Foods
Least Favorite Food: Foods with Little to No Flavor
Likes: Money, Dancing
Dislikes: Most People Besides His Friends
Hobby: Dancing
Sexuality: Demisexual
Unique Magic: 'Which One, Which One?' - Masawa can temporarily change into an random animal that can speak human language for about ten minutes to a hour with no powers or anything special besides being able to speak a human language. He mostly transforms into a Llama.
Talent: Animal Transformation adaptation
Personality: Masawa is a dick. He is not a great person to be around for a long period of time. He's selfish and often it's his way or the highway. He also has a problem with money, in that he kinda likes money a little too much. Not obsession levels, not definitely enough to make Jamil wary of leaving the treasure stash open for too long. He also doesn't seem to care about other's opinions that much, which is why he often is yelled at by the teachers and students for many things, and why Jamil gets a lot of complaints about him. But, deep down he's insecure as hell. So he puts up a facade of being a huge dick to hide his insecurities, well, until he met Quentin who, because of her experience, saw right through him and told him what he needed to hear. So, because of the mutual understanding the two have, he became a part of the group as he felt they had accepted him for who he was.
Background: Masawa came from the royal household of the Kingdom of Sun, and was raised by his older brother to be a member of royality, which little Masawa thought was actually to be the prince. Which, he originally was excited for because he thought that's what he was born for. So, when his brother became king and he was demoted to Grand Prince, his dreams were dashed. And that's when his insecurities and doubts about who he was and what his purpose in life was popped up and started to eat at him. And so, he became a bitter and selfish person, which his family did try to help change but was unsuccessful until he was enrolled in Night Raven College, and met Quentin.

Dorij Medusa
Tumblr media
Full Name: Dorji Medusa
Nickname(s): Mister Medusa (by his clients), Monsieur Prêteur sur gages (by Rook)
Twisted from: Madame Medusa [From the Rescuers]
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Age: 18
Birthday: June 22nd
Star Sign: Cancer
Height: 5'9 or 180 cm
Eye Color: Dark Green
Hair Color: Auburn Red
Homeland: Land of Pyroxene
Family: Mother, Father, Older Sister (Status Unknown)
Dorm: Pomefiore
School Year: Third Year
Class: 3-D, Student no. 16
Occupation: Student/Pawnbroker/Informat/Prostitute
Club: Magical Arts Club
Best Subject: Art
Dominant Hand: Left
Favorite Food: Sweet Foods, Coffee
Least Favorite Food: Sour Foods
Likes: Getting Money and Information
Dislikes: Nosey and Toxic people
Hobby: Collecting Items
Sexuality: Pansexual
Unique Magic: 'Duke of Treasure' - Dorji can identify any item, weither it is a treasure or not, and see its properties but most importantly how much money it's worth.
Talent: Working Well with Dogs and Crocodiles
Personality: Dorji was not a nice person. He made others at Night Raven College seem nice in comparison to him. He was the bar of how much of a dick a person can be according to everyone at NRC, even the teachers, and that says something coming from Vargas and Crewel. He was incredibly rude, stubborn, selfish, temperamental, and manipulative that was toxic to be around for long periods of time, which he still has habits of to this day and what most know him for in general. But after meeting Quentin after long nights with clients and fully understanding Quentin's reasons for helping him out, he soften up enough for everyone to notice something was up with him. So, he keeps up an act of being not a great person and a drama queen at times, but he's much better than he used be according to most people you ask. They say he actually shows how smart he is and will play nice when he has to. But, in truth Dorij actually is a huge mess of problems rolled up into a human being. It is suprising how many issues he has with others and himself that you would wonder if how he's alive sometimes.
Background: Dorji was born into a family of pretty selfish and ridiculously wealthy family, most of which had an unhealthy obsession with money and didn't really care for basic human interaction. So, Dorji grew up thinking money was the only way to live at all, and if you had no money, you were basically worthless. Which later became a problem when he was abandoned by his family at a young age and was forced to live on the streets, which taught him lots of lessons a child really shouldn't learn about life until they are at least a teen. And, because of living on the street, Dorji is great at information gathering and survival. He also managed to get a basic education despite being on the streets and survived long enough to get a job ( which in and of itself was kinda a miracle) and make his way up in life until he got his own shop and became a information broker, which he has a decent amount of money from. Dorji much later decided to go to Night Raven College despite not having much qualifications, and somehow managed to get in and realized on the first day he basically was in trouble because he wasn't as qualified as other students there. So, for a while, Dorji studied his butt off trying to catch up with his classmates and ended up surpassing them because of how determined he was to catch up, which caught the attention of the teachers and most honor students because he had something most honor students didn't- a ridiculous amount of willpower. Which often got him into trouble with other honor students because of their competitive spirit and namely one in particular, Vil Schoenheit. Since Dorji was a great student but also didn't respect much of Pomefiore's traditions, the two often headbutted over the dumbest of things because of the two's stubbornness. It honestly was a minefield for Pomefiore whenever the two end up in the same room, because of how much drama the two would cause. It took a while, and after a lot of teacher intervention, but the two did came to an agreement to not fight too much in front of the dorm. They still hate each other's guts, and are vocal about it, they just don't fight too much anymore. Dorji met Quentin by accident during their first years, trying to find a quiet place to stay for the night and ended up in Ramshackle dorm where Quentin took him in and did so without questioning it the more times he came to her dorm. He did eventually demand why she would he so nice to him, and she said that she was taught not to judge others by what they do, and for her experience with having sex, it wasn't her problem. And, since then, Dorji has developed something of a crush for her, despite him knowing Quentin is married.

Celebration of Life and the Forgotten Eulogy
Today, we had a small Celebration of Life for my husband. I will finally have the chance to give the eulogy that I didn’t get to at his funeral (long story, we’ll talk about that one some other time.
I would’ve thought having a month to work on it would’ve made it easier.... but no, not at all.
So after a month of thinking about it and a whole damn night writing it out, here’s the eulogy I gave today.
This is the most difficult thing I have ever written.
I originally wrote that sentence a month ago, I had no idea what it really meant.  It had only just begun really. A month later, and this hasn’t gotten any fucking easier.
I have stood and spoken in front of people countless times throughout my life, both within the LGBTQIA community and out; I have taught classes, I have performed like a badly trained fool for charity, I have stood (multiple times *god what were we thinking*) in front of a panel of judges and in front of my community and bared my soul. But this? Standing in front of you all now and speaking these words? This is the only time that it has ever truly mattered.
Because I am standing here, somehow trying to come up with the words that will do him justice.
How in the fuck can I possibly sum up this larger than life, amazing, ridiculous, generous, infuriating asshole of a great man who was my other half for the last 18 years? The man who has seen me at my very best and at my absolute worst. The man who I have loved and hated, the man I have called every name under the sun. The man who made me laugh and made me scream. The man who stood at my side and shared a life. He is the man who met a silly immature child and helped me become the woman I am now standing before you.
It's so hard to write this, because he was so many things to so many people. He led so many lives. He was a husband, a Son, a father, a brother, a Sister, a friend, an enemy (to all of us, at least once), a hero, a confidante, a Master and Sir who lived to serve.
But above all else, he was Family to us all.
Life is not perfect and neither was he. Life with him was not always easy, but I would go through the hardest times 100x over again just to have one more day with him.
He was the most stubborn man I have ever met, you could not tell him he was wrong when an idea got into his head. But am I too, so we butted heads, we fought - after all we are true to our South City nature.
But that stubbornness is what led to the passion in which he approached life. When he set his mind to something, when the right idea got into his head, he would do anything to make it happen.
He had a temper, dear lord did he. His anger was a constant demon in his head. But that temper led him to fight for those of us in need and he tried to turn that anger to a driving force to light the fire in others. He was so incensed by injustice, unjustified hatred and the ISMs of this world, that it spurred him to show love and support to all and to fight for all of his siblings.
He was not a man that could sit by the sidelines and watch others do the work. Every group or organisation we’ve been a part of, he was the first to volunteer his time and his energy.
So many of us, he helped by simply listening. He could talk to anyone. He didn’t see color, gender, orientation, your social status, or the content of your bank account - he saw the person, the human being hiding under all the labels. And people were drawn to him for that. He was so often the strength for us around him.
He would never say, but he was always worried about what others thought of him. So many times he feared that he appeared weak in front of others, because of some error he may have made, or thought he made. He worried how others saw him, not for his own pride, but because he never wanted people to think that they couldn’t come to him, that he couldn't be their strength. So, he was the tough strong man. He was starting to understand that it was never weakness, but his humanity, that people saw and that they thought no less of him for it.
But one of his greatest qualities was when that fear, that worry dropped and he let himself be silly. If you saw the photos at his service (at the bar… wherever) you know! He was beautiful when he let himself be free. And yes, I know how pissed he is at me for showing them to everyone.
But that is how I want you all to remember him, with that big, beautiful, goofy lop-sided smile on his face. Remember that ridiculous infectious laugh that you could hear from across a crowded room.
Something that was so incredibly important to him, part of the reason we traveled so often, is that he loved to make connections and to bring people together. He would always say that one of the most important things you can do in this life is introduce one person you love to another person you love and to grow your family. One tiny little silver lining in all this is how he has still managed to do that, even in his death. I have spent the last month crying, seeing the connections made at his service, people from all over, across the spectrum sharing a drink or a meal in his honor, at the conversations that have been shared between people that may have never met otherwise. To see the impact this man made on so many lives has been overwhelming and humbling to say the least.
One last thing I want to share before I go. As many of you know, I am a giant nerd. Him? He wasn’t so much. I did manage to get my influences in though. He made Red Shirt jokes, usually answered “42” whenever I said, I have a question, and though he grumbled at seeing the first one,  he was the first to suggest seeing the second Fantastic Beasts movie in the theaters.
One of my greatest accomplishments was getting him to watch an episode of Doctor Who. While he tolerated many of my nerdier tendencies, for some reason, he really dug his heels in on that one. So when he finally agreed, after over ten years of pestering, to watch one episode, I knew I had to choose wisely. I went with my favorite episode, Vincent and the Doctor. He loved it. May have even been a bit red-eyed by the end.
For any Whovians, you know how bittersweet it is that this is the episode he watched and loved.
For those that aren’t, here’s why. In the episode, The Doctor and his companion, Amy, travel back in time to meet Vincent Van Gogh, a brilliant eccentric painter, who as we know, suffered greatly from depression. He was also a man who saw the world in a unique and powerful way and only ever wanted to share how he saw it with others. There is a beautiful moment in the episode, where our heroes bring Vincent to the present so he can see his work is on display in one of the most prominent Art Museums of the world, to show him that the world would someday know how truly brilliant he was and how truly loved he is. The heartbreaking moment though, is that this is not enough to quiet the demons in his head; his life ended too soon.
This episode also has my favorite quote from all of Doctor Who, which, surprise surprise, fits right now.
"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and… bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant."
And Sir, you definitely added to my pile of good things.
