Mera I wanted to ask for the jade killer series, will it be more horror inclined than anything? I'm just waiting for romance or spice to appear and I'm not sure if perhaps I misread your intended genre and it's actually not meant to be that at all. I'm generally a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to horror, so if there won't be any of that in the end let me know and to spare myself the trauma I'll just go read one of your other fics instead (don't get me wrong, your jade killer fic is really good, it's me, a coward when it comes to scary)

Hi hi!!! There will eventually be nsfw scenes and themes of romance (though unhealthy) in the story! It's a slow burn, so Reader and Jade have to first tolerate each other before they can roll around in bed together. <3 but there are indeed psychological horror and thriller aspects. Without spoiling any major events, there is violence, descriptions of murder/blood/gore, and death in the story. Jade should also qualify as his own content warning because he's quite fearsome and brutal. ;;;;;

But please don't force yourself to read on if the things mentioned above are too much! I completely understand because the story does get scary and none of the characters are safe from gruesome fates. However, amidst the horror, there will be plenty of spice. Not only with Reader and Jade, but we can't forget that Reader had Azul first. hehehe >:D and their backstory is full of spice.

Antiverse Revised Character Profile: Undertow

Got no time, going on vacation in literally 8 hours. Hope you all enjoy, whoever you are.

Undertow

Powers/Abilities:

Toxic Water Projection: The miasma churns and the fools choke. Undertow can fire jets of green, brackish water from wrist mounted gauntlets. This water is filled with toxic sludge that poisons whatever is soaked in it, and high enough concentrations can cause permanent damage.

Slime Generation: As he chokes on it, so shall you. Undertow’s breathing equipment comes with two additional tanks of viscous slime, harvested directly from his own body. This slime is quite sticky, so it’s good for subduing tricky opponents, but can easily be turned on Undertow.

Weapon Generation: The tools of a pirate taste much blood in their lifetime. Unique to him, Undertow can access several weapons for use in combat.

-A pneumatic harpoon gun designed to attack at long range.

-A steel hammer forged in the shape of an anchor, perfect for bringing down the heaviest opponents.

-A serrated blade designed to cut through armor, and inflict debilitating bleeding wounds.

Life Support Armor: The cage is all that keeps him alive. For all the pain it causes, Undertow’s suit provides some great benefits. The suit can deflect most heavy arms fire, tank hits from powerful opponents, grant him enhanced strength, and allow Undertow to breathe underwater. But the suit’s design makes movement awkward and sluggish, and its weight slows Undertow to a crawl. He must also remove the respirator to hack up his toxic discharges, leaving him vulnerable for a time after.

Physical Description: Undertow is a juggernaut of metal and mechanical brutality. His helmet is square shaped and comes equipped with a respirator with two breathing tubes snaking around to his back. His giant midsection is divided into the chest and stomach, which come together to form a rounded square shape. On his back are two pairs of canisters: one pair contains highly concentrated oxygen and the other stores his biological discharges, used in the production of slime. His arms and legs are blocky and rather inflexible, with various tubes connecting to the gauntlets for the purpose of projecting water and slime. The suit is colored dark grey and is horribly rusted in certain places. What’s underneath the suit is best left to the imagination. The Antitrix symbol is located on his chest.

Backstory: We pine for a time when suffering is only a part of life. But for N’warr and the Cascans, pain is all the future they have. Centuries ago, Cascareau was much like it was in the prime universe. Vibrant oceans teemed with life and beauty, while the Cascans often battled each other for plunder or for adventure. It was not the most peaceful of lives, but the Cascans could ask for nothing less. Cascareau, for a time, was spared the fate of so many worlds, and the Cascans were not left wanting for better things. That all changed when Cascareau was conquered. The planet was invaded by a combined force of Chimeran and Tetramand war parties, who wished to claim it for its resources.

N’warr was born into the post war nightmare his world became: his people a toxic reflection of their past selves. Centuries of exposure to Cascareau’s now polluted seas inflicted debilitating genetic mutations, forcing them to don painful life support systems. N’warr lived in agony, forced into slavery for the medicines needed to keep him alive, all while his diseased body was slowly killing him. N’warr had no future, no reprieve from his torment. If he was to have no future, neither would his enemies. One day, he and a band of Cascans managed to escape from their ruined home world and commandeer a Chimeran battleship. In remembrance of his ancestors, N’warr plundered the galaxy with his crew for years, until one day he was captured by one far crueler than he…

Personality: N’warr is a pessimistic and pitiless brute. He is nihilistic to his core, a nihilism fueled by a jealousy of those who’s station in life is far greater than his. Although aware of his horrible actions, N’warr puts any lingering sense of guilt behind him. For him there is only the day ahead. One more day he must walkthrough with agony draped around his shoulders. And all will suffer that agony.

Influence on Kevin: Kevin becomes despondent and bitter as Undertow, and Kevin’s envy of other people’s happiness is put on display full.

It happened slowly, almost to the point where Sarah questioned if it was all coincidental. Each week a pretty shell would appear somewhere Sarah frequented, nestled atop the rocks near her turtle nests or even left on the deck of their cottage.

It started off as a weekly occurrence, something compelling her to pluck each shiny or interesting find off the ground. As if the universe was aware how happy such a tiny surprise made Sarah, the shells started coming more frequently; alongside dried sand dollars and little pieces of turtle shell.

Part of her wondered if maybe Crockett was behind it all along, her roommate would do silly things like that to make her smile. Yet as she turned each new seashell over in her hands, Sarah felt a tug in her heart that insisted it was the work of something far more close to the ocean.

“You can go right here,” she murmured to the newest piece of abalone shell she placed beside the others on her shelf, admiring the mystery behind her new collection.

i woke up to being on a couple of fic rec lists and really appreciated it, so i wanted to capitalize on the nice energy and make a list of some of my own favs that i've read recently that i didn't necessarily see on the other lists :D check these out because they have some of the best prose/plots/characterization that i've read in the fandom :] 💜

one soft infested summer (M, 18k+, 3/7 ongoing) by @wheelersboy - this one is perfect for all the highler fans out there! it's got stoner byler of course, a music festival, lots out camping, and some really amazing writing! i started it just for the fun stoner vibes because Why Not, but i'm staying for the beautiful writing and the really complex and delicate relationship mike and will have in this one

Light Sleepers (T, 15k+, 2/6 ongoing) by @helioleti - WillEl-centric fic set during the time gap between the end of s3 and the beginning of s4 that explores their dynamic and their respective problems with mike, all while trying to cope with moving across the country from everything they know. each chapter is meant to reflect a certain stage of grief, which fits so well with all the complicated emotions everyone is going through!

drank my poison all alone (T, 4k, one-shot) by silverluminoqity - mike gets vecna'd and has to face his past self who's ashamed of who he's grown up to be, and my dudes the writing goes SO HARD. by far one of the best mike gets vecna'd fics i've read with such a good take on his character

star eater (T, >1k, one-shot) by @lowlightt - another fic where the writing does not play. honestly if you have a few minutes, READ THIS FIC. it's mostly just a confrontation between will and vecna, but it's so so powerful and impactful. and again, i cannot state it enough: the writing is AMAZING

tell me again (you said yes) (M, 32k, 3/3 complete) by @willow-lark - hey remember when cleradin was like a Thing for a brief second a few months ago? well if you miss those vibes, or if you just like great writing and some of the best weaving of canon into a fantasy au i've ever read, please look no further than this fic (and it's first part, fireball him! (cast protection)). i love this one dearly and enjoyed the wonderful ways Lark wove canon (specifically s1) into such a different setting, plus it was nice to see many of the other characters play a role in the events. beautiful, astounding, heart-wrenching - and did i mention there's an elopement 👀

In Undertow (M, 17k+, 3/6 on-going) by @souverian-are-we - this and one soft infested summer have become my summer byler reads~ when i say i love this fic, i mean you will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands 🥰 we've got estranged byler, jancy engagement with some stoncy going on in the background, and most of the characters still reeling from the consequences of their final battle with the upside down. it's all set at a lake house, which provides some breathtaking/atmospheric writing that this author uses to their advantage. it has some of my favorite scenes i've ever read in fic too, ones that have literally taken my breath away

california show your teeth (T, 77k+, 10/19 on-going) by @fireflywitch - what if the Byers and Hopper families were from Lenora and moved to Hawkins? this fic takes this one simple premise and turns it into one of my favorite fics i've ever had the pleasure of following along with. it essentially functions as a retelling of s1 and s2, gives almost every main character that's been featured in the show thus far a lot of time and space for their own plots, all while culminating into one larger story underneath. i don't think i've read a fic quite like this one in terms of its scope, plotting, and characterization, because there are a lot of moving parts, but this author goes above and beyond. i cannot recommend it enough

all i know is pouring rain (and everything has changed) (T, 3k, one-shot) by @willelfanpage - i think i read this one at the beginning of my workday while i was running some report on my computer and had to go about the rest of my day as if everything was fine ahah :'D seriously though, it's 3k words that pack an emotional punch all while examining will's relationship to rain. the writing is just gorgeous, and it's a character study that i haven't really seen done before, which was quite enjoyable~

Chasing Heartlines by (T, 7k+, 1/2 on-going) @cherryisgone - if you liked Tip-Toeing on Lilypads then may i direct you to its sequel, which features so much pining mike that he might as well be a tree? again, if you like cleradin/fantasy aus, then Cherry my beloved has you covered 💜 it fits so neatly with Lilypads and provides some fun contrast between will and mike~

Touch Me Like You Know Me (M, 15k, 4/4 complete) by @starsarefire824 - this exists in the rare pantheon of fics that actually made me cry. imagine an estranged byler reunion with all the emotions turned up to an eleven, and lots of lingering on lost time and how life sometimes takes us places we never thought we'd go. it's absolutely beautiful and is a classic to me :]

come back to me and forgive everything (T, 78k, 18/18 complete) by @howtobecomeadragon - i saw a lot about this one when it was on-going but am only just now getting around to reading it, and all i can say is why did it take me so long to get to it :') this author does such a good job of writing will and mike's relationship with a lot of nuance and complexity while still managing to make them feel like the teenagers they are. basically, will has to spend every july at lonnie's house in indianapolis, and for this summer in particular, the event is a lot more emotionally impactful for both mike and will. there's lots of emotional depth, the complexities of coming out and/or realizing you're queer, and, at the heart of it, how two friends try to mend things between each other. it's so soft and sweet

that's all i've got for now!! i'm quickly running out of time on my lunch break :'D also haven't been writing as much, but it's been fun to read more and relax a bit. hope you guys enjoy these because they're genuinely some of the best stuff i've had the pleasure to read in a while 💜💜💜

Uhm hi, I'm obsessed? Sk!Jade is a fantastic idea and I need to draw him to fully appreciate-- so here's my ask: In your au, does he look exactly like canon Jade? Any subtle (or not so subtle) differences? Does he dress as sophisticated as canon Jade or is his wardrobe little more modern/casual? Can't wait for the next chapter of DRU!!

Hello!!! I'm so happy that you like the au and that you want to draw Jade based on it!!!! :D I will provide you with some information on Jade's (human form) appearance and his wardrobe for this au! (feat. brief info on Floyd because the twins are a package deal.)

Jade is 26 in the au, so he looks more mature and grown than he does in canon. Definitely more muscular and stronger than in canon.

Both he and Floyd still wear their sturgeon scale earrings, but they also occasionally swap them for other matching earrings. Both brothers have helix, forward helix, anti-tragus, and industrial piercings. :)

Jade has a venom tongue piercing and a moray eel tattoo that curls around his right bicep. Floyd has the same tattoo, but it's on his left bicep.

Jade's summer wardrobe mainly consists of solid color T-shirts, button-ups, and shorts/baggy pants. None of it is ever form-fitting because he prefers loose-fitting clothes when the weather is hot. I do like to picture him wearing fits like these: x. xx. xxx. xxxx. xxxxx. x. xx. xxx.

His wardrobe ranges from casual and comfortable clothing (oversized sweaters, loose T-shirts (with really obscure/cute/unique graphics), high-waisted trousers) to formal wear (business suits and vests). He has an outfit for nearly every occasion, and both he and Floyd like to wear designer things (belts, watches, clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc). His wardrobe has more dark tones in comparison to Floyd's, who usually likes to wear bright, artsy colors. Though with Floyd, his outfits are usually mood dependent. 

I like thinking about what styles the characters might wear in this setting, so I hope you can easily picture Jade with this type of fashion! When it comes to the trio as a whole, mafia fashion will always be the go-to, especially when they’re working. >:)

I haven't posted some fic recs in a while so I thought I would!

Here are some ones I love:

In Undertow (M) by olliecoddle (@souverian-are-we): This is my favorite thing I'm reading right now. It's. Just. So. Good.

The Wheeler’s lakehouse was a two-story wooden building with white siding and blue shutters on each of the little windows. It sat on the edge of a large blue-green lake, a long backyard full of tall tufted grass that ended in a wooden dock extending out over the water. Will had been to the Wheeler’s lakehouse twice as a child, once when he was eight and again when he was sixteen. Now, he was twenty-nine and pulling up to the long driveway of the house in his beaten-up Ford Escort, his stomach in nervous knots that he was trying to calm with a half-full can of ginger ale.

or, four months after one byers/wheeler couple breaks up, another gets married. and, of course, will and mike are both the best men. and, of course, there is a plot to get them back together. nothing goes to plan.

Mike and Will used to be friends. Best friends! But after one fight they couldn't come back from during the summer, they haven't spoken to each other since. The only time they cross paths is on the piste, with epee swords brandished, as fencing rivals for their opposing boarding schools - Hawkins High vs Lenora Hills Prep. This year is no different, except it kind of is. Something pulls them together and this time they can't escape it. Because there's no Mike without Will and there's no Will without Mike. Simple as that.

the strawberries are dying (T) by @eggowls Rated T: the world needs more historical au Byler fics, and this one is perfect. Beautifully written and an interesting premise. I have to catch up on this one.

At the height of the stock market crash, the Wheelers are the richest family in Roane County and in need of domestic servants to fulfill their estate's needs. In a bout of desperation, they end up hiring the Byers family, much to everyone’s (except Nancy’s, who has a crush on Jonathan) chagrin.

Let's Go Crazy Together (but not like this) (M) by Julia_Skysong: Byler hate each other and end up sharing a room at rehab. It's awkward. I'm only halfway through, but I'm loving it.

Anger, fear, trauma, grief. One turned to alcohol. One turned to drugs. Now, somehow, they've ended up sharing a room at the same mental hospital. Will and Mike are stuck, forced to work through their issues together, for better or for worse.

Long hair damp with sweat, sticking to his long pale nape and freckled shoulders. Even his back seemed long as he tensed. Will had to commit this view to memory, engrave it in his mind forever. Even if it was the only time they ever shared such intimacy, even if Mike had only asked him for help because he was there, familiar, convenient, and they needed his heat to stop as soon as possible. There are goddamned monsters out there Will, I can’t be in heat right now, I can’t! He needed to revere this moment.

Mike truly was the most beautiful creature Will had laid his eyes on. __________________________________________________________________

Will had the same pre-show ritual before every gig he ever performed. About twenty minutes before he had to go on stage, he would lock himself in any confined space he could find. In a bathroom stall, his dressing room, the maintenance closet, he would turn off the lights and hide for a few minutes. Today, though, it was five minutes before he had to go on stage, the clock ticking down, and he had spent the last half hour wandering around the venue looking for Mike Wheeler.

Will needed to talk to him.

or, the party has a band. will and mike make out on stage. for the bit, of course. it causes problems.

I’m a Wreck (Without You Here) (M) by @talkingtothelights. I'm only on the first chapter but it's so heartbreaking and emotional. Good shit.

Mike has been living 2,200 miles away from his family and hometown for the past fourteen years. He rarely visits, but when he receives heartbreaking news, he’s forced to return home for a funeral. It’s in this unfortunate chapter of life that Mike must come to terms with the consequences of abruptly running away from home and perhaps reconnect with the one person he’s tried his damnedest to forget about.

not strong enough to be your man (T) by @perexcri. The prose is fucking beautiful. I really enjoyed this one.

He swallows down a flurry of all the things he wants to say – every moment and untold truth and aching thought that’s bruised his mind for years – but it comes out so plain, so stark and oddly-jagged in the silence following the lighting, taking up space where thunder should be:

“I meant it, Will. You’re not an inconvenience.”

Will shakes his head and turns.

Mike wants to feel like he's meaningful, like he's an active part of his own life - worthwhile.

It's a good thing Will needs him now more than ever.

Right?

Make Believe (E) by FlurryofStarz. One of all time favorites. Amazing slow burn and super interesting a/b/o dynamics. Mike centric. I cannot wait until the plot point I think is going to happen is revealed. 👀

There's absolutely no way to know what a person will present as ahead of time, but Mike's never been more certain about something in his life. Will Byers is going to be an Omega--a male Omega--and the second that happens, he'll lose everything. Some knothead Alpha like Troy or James will claim him as their own and no one will be able to stop them. Luckily, the Party has a plan. It might be complicated and unconventional. It might not even be legal, but it's something and that's all Will really needs. Something. And Mike's more than willing to try it if it means saving Will.

But what if Will isn't the one who needs saving?

"In nearly every universe, there are constants at play which events running as they are supposed to. In the Antiverse, that constant is pain and suffering. For the people of Cascareau, theirs is something else entirely. Their once beautiful ocean world has become the toxic waste dump of Antiverse. Conqueror after conqueror have used the planet as a storage/dumping site for their chemical weapons and radioactive wastes. The now utterly polluted oceans mutated the native Cascans, inflicting horrible genetic diseases which forced them to don loud, painful breathing suits just to survive their hellish existence. With their home broken beyond repair, the Cascans took to the stars and became roaming bands of pirates, taking plunder from unprepared travelers."

"Undertow’s painful existence is a far cry from the cleanliness of Overflow. The “water” in Undertows storage tanks is actually a viscous slime taken directly from the polluted waters of Cascareau, which he can use to immobilize his opponents. This slime can be shot out of cannons attached to gauntlets, or be used as whips to reel them in. Undertow can also access a spear gun and anchor shaped club. Undertow is held back however by his need to regulate his breathing apparatus, which if damaged can cause him to suffocate on his own sickly discharges. His armor also makes him heavy and unwieldy."

Rhi I don’t know if you’ve already shared a thirst of a purge!au but bodyguard iwa inspired by purge:election year HSNSNBD sorry for the brainrot coz i just recently read undertow and the writing’s so good and intense 🥹 ur an amazing author, rhi!!

I actually haven’t seen all the purge films, only the first one hshdjdjdkd so I have no idea if what I say next is even remotely close to the plot or not but who cares here goes :))

You pick Iwa because he’s strong and quick, and you feel safe with him. The purge reduces crime, yes, but it’s never eliminated it entirely. After watching Iwa take down a would be shooter on the campaign trail without breaking a sweat, there’s no one you trust more to stay by your side on Purge night.

And Iwa is loyal. He might think you’re too idealistic, too naive – too good for the political shit fight you’re dropping yourself into, but he’ll keep you safe. Not out of the goodness of his heart, or because he believes in what you’re preaching, not even for the money. He’s not so noble as all that (he’s never been anything but selfish where you’re concerned).

Iwa was born for violence. There’s something deep inside of him that craves it. Maybe that’s just human nature – he thought that for a while, watching people burn shit and break things, killing for the sheer fun of it on Purge night. But then there’s people like you, who condemn the needless violence, flinch from it.

Maybe you are right, and people as a whole are better than this. He isn’t. He’s a twisted piece of fucking work, but if he’s hurting people, killing them for you, well, that scratches his itch just fine.
