Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge (1989)
"Eric... I'm really sorry. Look, I may have made some mistakes, I said some bad things. I'll eat my words!"
"Eat this."

I've seen a couple of his late 80s horror schlocks and actually this might be#the most competently made‚ but it's also somehow less fun than absolute grade z dreck like Doom Asylum. shot in the same mall as Chopping#Mall‚ this is a Phantom au which doesn't actually make any sense once you start prodding at the plot. also Pauly Shore is in this (seeing#his name in the opening credits was the biggest jump scare of the movie). there's only one element of this that's a hands down win and#that's Mac's dad himself‚ GSC‚ in one of his earliest roles‚ as a karate kicking hitman who apparently works exclusively for this one guy#who's opening a mall (and commits multiple murders to protect the mall). he's incredible‚ all quivering psychosis and leather pants#I'd far rather the whole film had been about his genuinely fascinating and bizarre character but alas he's just a henchman#and thus meets a classic henchman's fate (head snipped off by garbage compactor). honestly a kind of bad film but eh I've seen worse

Erich Hartmann (1922 - 1993)
The most successful fighter pilot in history. In the span of 3 years, Erich "Bubi" Hartmann shot down 352 enemy aircraft.
Tumblr media
Erich spend a part of his childhood in China, when things got too politically dangerous, his family moved back to Germany. His mother was one of the first women to pursue flying on glider planes and she often took Erich with him, igniting his love for flying.
After graduating school in 1940, he immediately joined the Luftwaffe and started training as a fighter pilot. In October 1942 he was sent to the Eastern Front, joining the war. Young and impulsive as he was, he didn´t stick to the rules at his first enemy encounter, resulting in a crashed plane. He was assigned as Rottenflieger of Walter Krupinski, another young but already experienced and successful fighter pilot who managed to teach Erich that working as a team is crucial for success and survival.
Within a year he shot down 90 victories, before being shot down himself, but managing to escape Soviet imprisonment.
Im March 1944 he shot down his 200th victory, by August his 300th.
In late 1944 he was pulled from the Eastern Front to train on the revolutionary new jet fighter Me-262, but in March 1945 he returned to his Geschwader. He declined Adolf Gallands offer to joing JV 44. On the day of the capitulation, 8th May 1945, he shot down his final victory, number 352.
He had the chance to espace to southern Germany but he refused to leave his comrades and the fleeing civilians behind. They started towards the German border on foot and surrendered themselves to US soldiers, but where handed over to the Russians. [There is an interesting comparison to Hans Ulrich Rudel (the most successful Stuka pilot) who also surrendered to Americans who were also supposed to hand him over to the Soviets but refused.]
Erich Hartmann, just 23 years old at the time, was sentenced to 20 years of hard labour under the accusation of war crimes (these "crimes" entailing destroying russian airplanes). Not being allowed a proper trial, there was little he could do to defend himself. He was shifted around to several labour camps (gulags).
During the endless interogations, the Russians tried to get all information about the Me-262, but Hartmann didn´t cooperate. In order to break him, they tried to extort him by not giving him the letters his wife, Ursula, wrote him. She faithfully wrote him everyday. In one of those letters, Hartmann learned that his son had died. But he did not break and he never lost hope.
After more than 10 years, Erich Hartmann was one of the last PoWs to return to Germany, to his wife.
He joined the Luftwaffe in 1956, not because he truly wanted to but because he felt like he had no other option. Erich had always wanted to become a doctor like his brother but all he knew was being a soldier, a pilot.
Tumblr media
After his death he was cleared of all war crime accussations.

The four decades between the 1880s and the start of World War I brought about significant change for the German town of Emden in Lower Saxony: a canal connection to the Ruhr area led to a significant increase of traffic and goods turnover as Emden at the same time served as a hub for the sea transport of goods coming from the Ruhr area. This boom required a comprehensive extension of the port area and consecutively new dwellings and infrastructure.
This trend continued after the end of the First World War in 1918 and architecture-wise peaked under the aegis of the head of the municipal planning and building office Reinhold Haasis’: he served from 1925 to 1933 when he was removed by the National Socialist. During his tenure the city of Emden, which had more than doubled its population between 1885 and 1933, saw the construction of a number of remarkable buildings characterized by an amalgam of local brick architecture and Expressionism.
One of the buildings conceived during this period was the former agricultural school/savings bank, a design by Walter Heim that was built in 1927/28. It is a striking example of the local expressionist idiom, significantly more restrained than those in Hamburg or Hannover, that especially on the inside surprises with expressive details and an unusually bold color scheme. This color scheme was restored during the buildings’ renovation and extension carried out by Helmut Riemann in 1999, a revitalization that was followed up by the present book: „Expressionistische Architektur in Emden - Ein Haus von 1928 und seine Neugestaltung“, edited by Ulrich Höhns and published by Dölling und Galitz in 2002. In addition to providing a lavishly illustrated overview of the reconstruction and extension of the building the book features a thorough description of the original building on basis of historic photographs and plans but also sheds some light on the architect Walter Heim as well as the expressionist architecture in Emden. On a final note the volume also includes a history of Emden’s ascent to a significant harbor city and a detailed overview of how the city area changed with regards to infrastructure, housing and industry.
In view of these insightful essays the book is more than just the monograph of a building but also an introduction to the history of city and its expressionist architectural heritage. Well done!

lewdcanons is a secondary blog of @sparsilelove and @aeipathiclove -- all guidelines of my main blog apply here too! this page is for all my (likely canon divergent) adult plots involving canon characters. while i'm usually picky about canons and their portrayal, everything here is a little more chill and entirely #toohornyformain. characters under the cut 🥴
a note on gender: * indicates a genderswapped character. all muses can be played as cis or trans, but please don't use feminisation kink with trans guys in threads with me. i'm trans myself and it makes me super dysphoric, thanks!
for all of the fandoms mentioned, i'll most likely play anyone from that fandom -- just send me a message on main and we'll figure it out.

World on a Wire (Rainer Werner Fassbinder, 1973)
Cast: Klaus Löwitsch, Barbara Valentin, Mascha Rabben, Karl Heinz Vosgerau, Wolfgang Schenck, Günther Lamprecht, Uili Lommel, Adrian Hoven, Ivan Desny, Kurt Raab, Margit Carstensen, Ingrid Caven, Gottfried John. Screenplay: Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Fritz Müller-Scherz, based on a novel by Daniel F. Galouye. Cinematography: Michael Ballhaus, Ulrich Prinz. Production design: Horst Giese, Walter Koch, Kurt Raab. Film editing: Ursula Elles, Marie Anne Gerhardt. Music: Gottfried Hüngsberg.
What we call "reality" is, as we all know, a construct, the product of the limitations of our senses. But what if we, too, are part of the construct, put here by some other entity and blinded to the reality that lies beyond the senses? That way lies religion -- "Now we see through a glass darkly...." -- and metaphysics -- now largely dismissed as "asking unanswerable questions" -- but also science fiction. Witness the popularity of a film like The Matrix (Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski, 1999) and its sequels. In fact, Rainer Werner Fassbinder got there more than two decades before the Wachowskis. In 1973 he created a two-part television series, World on a Wire, that aired in Germany, and then became a kind of cult hit via file-sharing on the internet before being restored in 2010 and screened at the Berlin Film Festival. In it, a German research institute has created a simulated world in its supercomputer. The inhabitants of this world have been given consciousness, but only one of them has knowledge of the world outside the computer. He serves as a contact between the programmers and the simulated beings. But then the sudden death of the head of the program puts his second-in-command, Stiller (Klaus Löwitsch), in charge of investigating not only the death of his predecessor but also the suicide of one of the simulated beings. Stranger and stranger things begin to happen, until Stiller learns that he is also a simulation in his own simulated world. He also learns that the institute's simulated world is being used for commercial purposes, something that violates its agreement with the government funding it. As he comes to terms with this knowledge, his increasingly erratic behavior makes him a target for assassins, and his one hope is to find the contact with the level above that's simulating him. Got that? The head-spinning premise of the film comes from a novel, Simulacron-3, by the American writer Daniel F. Galouye, adapted by Fassbinder and Fritz Müller-Scherz. Fassbinder gives it a good deal of his characteristic style in the adaptation: The women in Stiller's world, for example, always wear cocktail dresses, even at work, and rooms are filled with mirrors to suggest the layers of reflected reality in the three levels. It was filmed in 16 mm for television, which means there's some graininess and focus problems in parts of the restored film, but the cinematography is by Fassbinder's frequent collaborator Michael Ballhaus, along with Ulrich Prinz. Löwitsch is very good as Stiller, taking on a kind of James Bondian role, and the paranoid atmosphere prevails even when the plot gets a bit snarled in its own premise.

Forget everything else,
BABY #100: VESPER TALLA! 🎉
Oh and his brother, #101, Walter Talla. Oh well.
Max can rest now, or do things she couldn’t do when she was constantly pregnant. First, I let her drink a potion of youth or something, so her age reset to the beginning of the adult stage. I think she deserves to live a full life.
