For Leonard, the weight of a child's blood upon his weapon was heavier than anything else he had handled before in his lifetime.

He hadn't the honour to have even called it the first, but different from his brothers, who had found their end directly by the blades of the Empire, there was no hope for the blame of responsibility to be lifted off his shoulders now that he had wielded that same blade himself.

Leonard's breathing was panicked and uneven. A cold sweat ran down his back as the sensation of the light body being flung backwards shot once more through his arms - he felt ill. Had he died? Had he done away with his life in that forest and been sentenced to hell? Perhaps it was all a punishment, an eternity spent in war, ending the lives of children just as he had his brothers. The screams had sounded too familiar for comfort.

He couldn't, couldn't bring himself to fight. The stakes didn't come to him. The seal didn't exist to him. The usually tranquil forest had roared with the sounds of the clashing steel, the hurried footsteps, the cries and mockery of the faerie - something like the dragon's voice had called his name in harsh rebuke, and whether it truly was her or Caim, Leonard didn't understand and stumbled blindly back to the garrisons in a piteous attempt to flee.

Too cowardly to die, and too starved to survive.

All that was clear to him against the roar of noise was his own breathing, the feeling of his heart pounding in its chest, and the crushing weight of the guilt from that thought repeating itself in his head like a mantra. Leonard struggled to break out of it - do or say something that could stop this madness. Anything. A sickened cry sounded at the sound of the mercenary's own cold reproach, and the hermit struggled to respond.

"Caim, please...!"

He had tried to utter words, either protest or a plea, but his throat had grown tight and left only a quiet whimper. Was that all he could do? Beg...? Leonard's weapon trembled in his hands. He was truly weak... He could have done more than beg. Just like his brothers, there was a thought that told him that he could have saved them. But, it was all the same. His family murdered for the sake of shameful pleasure. The blood of children spilled only for his own protection - his own cowardice to even die correctly. All for himself, a pathetic existence unable to even lift a finger against the slaughter of children.

Some wretched noise, a ragged fight for strained breath against the pounding heart in his chest, could be heard against the armoured thumps of bodies against the ground. Even from a distance, Leonard's frozen body could be seen trembling uncontrollably. The polearm dangled limply from his hands.

"They are only mere children...!"

The last uttered words before the hermit collapsed to his knees were a heart-wrenching sob.

Not a voice of disgust, but a cry in horror.

dearheart this is such a good question and i consider it to be basically a marriage proposal so hmu w ur ring size <3 /p /j

so like. i super definitely want there to be a scene in which the hexsquad talks abt what happened and makes sure they're all on the same page, specifically abt luz helping philip and hunter being a grimwalker. like i want them all to comfort each other SO BAD. but i think there's probably gonna be a lot of self-blaming w those two and they're gonna try to isolate themselves or repress everything. and then there's gonna have to be a group therapy session, which is what i wanted anyway hehehe

i think there's gonna be a lot of exploration of how magic works in the human realm and I'm SO excited for that. like we know glyphs don't work, bc they command the magic around them but the human realm doesn't have magic just THERE like the demon realm does. w bile sacs......i think gus and willow and amity will be able to do magic basically as normal

we don't know if everyone has their palismen w them, but my guess is they do, and im not sure if their staffs will work the same. i don't think we know enough abt how palismen rly WORK and are made and such, but maybe in the human realm they aren't animated creatures and only staffs? maybe they work normally? maybe they're in creature form but they're just wood carvings? idk but im so excited to learn more abt how magic works :D

I'm not sure what to think abt the bit of belos mud that made it into the human realm.......and honestly i have no idea what's happening on the boiling isles w the collector and such. i don't have any theories abt that but i bet it'll be wild lmao

i DO have a theory abt eda and the owl beast, partially inspired by a post that pointed out that when king started to free the collector, eda woke up, and the show focused on her gray (cursed) eye, and partially inspired by the one scene in hooty's door where the collector shows up in Eda's dream. so lilith found the curse in the night market, written on a scroll. also in hooty's door, the curse scroll washes up on the beach in the final dream scene, and someone comes along and picks it up. and the collector gave belos the draining spell and taught him magic stronger than anybody's. the owl beast curse drains Eda's magic. i think the owl beast could've been an early attempt at the draining spell, before belos knew exactly how to get what he wanted, or before the collector knew belos' end goal. it ended up in the boiling sea, and someone picked it up and brought it to the night market. idk how plausible this is but I think it's cool, and either way there HAS to be a connection w the owl beast and the collector

the format disney pushed them into for this last season is ridiculous but despite that it's gonna be so good :)

You looked at your phone while finishing some work stuff. It was Pedri, which made you smile.

You heard the doorbell ring and practically jumped to open it. It was raining outside so you let Pedri in quickly, closing the door behind you. introducing your boyfriend to your parents has always sounded scary to you. until you met yudai. after the first date, you were already 100% sure you wanted to marry him one day.

there were the both of you, in your parents' diner, eating your mom's delicious food, and your boyfriend excitedly telling your parents about himself while you couldn't help but watch him with hearts in your eyes. you couldn't thank life enough for making you meet him almost exactly 10 months ago, because you have been the happiest woman ever since.

you still remember everything so well. it was a bright, sunny day. you work at a local cafe; it's a small shop, and you basically know all of your customers names and their orders from memory.

your head felt heavy, and you could've fallen asleep on the spot easily. you couldn't stay home due to your coworker already taking a day off, you were the only barista at work.

you took some painkillers and hoped you could survive until closing time. while mopping the floor behind the counter, you heard the door open and a "good afternoon" in a man's voice. it was someone you'd never seen around before. it's safe to say he made your jaw drop immediately. he was a tall, good-looking, and well-dressed man. a literal disney prince.

"good afternoon. what can i get you?" you asked, trying to get yourself together.

"one americano, please," he smiled at you. little did he know he had made your heart skip a beat with this small gesture.

after this, yudai visited the cafe more often, basically every day. the conversations became longer day by day, and your giggles filled the small space of the cafe when he told you stories about himself. it felt like you knew him for ages, not just a few weeks.

two months later, you found yourself sitting in the passenger seat of his car. he picked you up and drove you to a silent field to watch the night sky. he had been planning this ever since you first told him you prefer quiet places where you can turn your mind off after a stressful week.

you put a blanket on the ground and sat on it. yudai sat beside you, he hesitated a bit before gently taking your small hand in his big one, rubbing the back of it slowly, as if you were going to break if he wasn't careful.

"thank you for bringing me here," you said, turning to yudai.

he smiled at you, fighting the urge to kiss you there and then.

"the moon is beautiful, isn't it?" he asked, looking at you. you blushed at the question; you knew so damn well what it meant.

"i love you too." he immediately turned his head to your answer. a small smirk appeared on his face as he pulled you closer to him, his arms finding themselves around your waist.

the two of you sat in silence for a few more minutes before you finally spoke up.

"i feel safe with you, yudai. i've been meaning to tell you this for a while, but i thought it would be too early for it." you chuckled and looked away shyly.

he kissed your hand before replying to your confession. "i'm so glad you feel this way. you are so precious to me; i'm one hundred percent sure you are my soulmate yn."

his words made your eyes tear up a little, which he noticed, and he hugged you close to his chest. his hands, which were holding yours just a few seconds ago, were now gently caressing your head as he kissed the top of it.

in that moment, both of you were sure that you didn't want to be separated, ever.
