it's a pet peeve of mine when ppl frame Andrew as hating Aaron and being needlessly cruel to him... bc while yes, their relationship is fractured and strained, Andrew genuinely cares about his brother and wants the best for him, he just doesn't know how to show that in a normal way.
like he might not know how to express it in a healthy manner but Andrew LOVES Aaron, like he truly just wants Aaron to be healthy and safe. It's like, his whole Thing. Aaron is one of the most important people in his life. Andrew wants him around. He'd do anything to protect him.
I guarantee Andrew wants to be emotionally close to Aaron too, he just doesn't have the tools to do that and the thought of letting someone in terrifies him. He also has no concept of what a healthy sibling relationship looks like, so he has no frame of reference to work from.

Andrew: due to personal reasons, I will be sinking to the bottom of the ocean in a large metal box. Do not try to find me or drag me up.
Aaron: Neil said "I love you" and you said "thanks" Didn't you?
Andrew: I said the reasons are personal

Aaron Minyard in the foxhole court specifically, character of all time. moisturized unbothered in his lane etc etc. he's got like two and a half lines and pops off with each one. serves cunt on the court. serves cunt on the dancefloor. he's hardly present so he's at his least aggressive out of all three books, in his unproblematic era. doesn't care about anyone's drama but best believe he's paying attention. mans is in the kitchen doing dishes while the others are throwing fits and acting out. king shit.

it’s so funny how the Twinyards are short. so funny. haha…
it’s almost like neither of their physiological need for touch was met as babies…. so touch-starved it led to this sort of dwarfism… no matter Tilda or foster care, they don’t get the soft caresses, the safety of arms, the tickle of the toes, the raspberries on the tummy, the soothing hand on the back, the fingers to clutch, the boops on the nose, the kisses on the cheeks and the head and the feet and the hands and the neck and… they just don’t, won’t get it, no matter how many scenarios in which they switch places. forever small, smaller, forever five feet nothing, forever the physical embodiment of everything they’ve lacked since before birth.
so funny.

The difference between Andrew's and Aaron’s insults is that Andrew is almost poetic about. He will put together a string of words so cruel and calculated that it ruins you as a person and makes you question everything about yourself. Andrew will fucking destroy you. Aaron, on the other hand, puts no thought into his insults, but they are just as venomous. He goes for the obvious, attacking personality and physical attributes, but he does it in a way that, even fifteen years down the line, you’re still insecure about what that little blond guy said to you at 9 am on Monday morning during biochemistry your sophomore year in college. Andrew will make you hate yourself, but Aaron will make you want to kill yourself. If they were to team up together? Well, you might as well just burn scrambled eggs in Gordon Ramsay's kitchen because you’re about to get fucked.

There are a lot of reasons to dislike his twin. Hate, even, at times. He's said and done a lot of shit, and he's been an insensitive bastard. He's disregarded Andrew's words and failed to keep his promises. But the one true embarassing moment Andrew Joseph Minyard has had to endure is Aaron singing.
He's singing half-heartedly on a dare, but he's singing an incredibly sappy song for Katelyn. Everyone laughs and whoops until he's supposed to sing the next song which the foxes actually listen to without interrupting. And Aaron Michael Minyard sings beautifully. Incredibly. The foxes are stunned and Katelyn is laughing with misty eyes. Not only does Andrew have to sit through all of it but also bear the speculations on how well Andrew would sing if he would.
It definitely does not compel Andrew to try it out sometime when he's alone and he definitely does not make it a habit to hum to Neil sometime in future. He does really hate his twin.

WIP Wednesday (1/17) || Arsonist Neil / Firefighter Andrew AU (Part 87.5)
Aaron presses the eject button and the TV screen goes back to blue when the tray pops out. Andrew watches as he takes the disc out and turns around with a look on his face. Aaron clears his throat and waves the disc around.
“I thought it would be like that movie Nicky made us go to that one time. Ya know, the one with the grizzly bear and the little goat, or whatever it was.”
“The bear and the little goat…” Andrew repeats, confused.
It takes a moment, but memories of high school come flooding into his head and Andrew recalls the night Nicky dragged them both out on an adventure to the movies. But on the way there, the two of them started arguing. Nicky decided since they were acting like babies, they could watch a baby movie. Instead of one of the horror movies that they were arguing about. It was called Open Season and it was about a pet grizzly getting turned out into the wild for the first time.
It was a fitting, but also unjust punishment. For Aaron, anyway. You see, Andrew had still been medicated back then and… Well, he found it hilarious. He remembers cackling at every joke and flipping off an actual seven year old when she looked at him funny. Andrew cringes internally.
"It was a deer. Not a goat." Andrew says finally. "And it wasn't that good."
“I know it wasn't. But you really liked it." Aaron says, confused.
“I was high off my ass on anti-psychotics.” Andrew says, matter-of-factly. “I thought watching the bathroom faucet drip was fun back then.”
“Oh.” Aaron’s expression crumbles like wet sand. “I thought… Uh. Anyway, happy birthday.”
“Mm. Thanks. You too.” Andrew says, crossing his arms. “What are we doing for Christmas? Waterboarding practice? You can go first."
“It wasn’t that bad!” Aaron insists.
“It was.”
“Okay, it was.”

Ok just imagine: the twinyards with albinism. For no reason other than that Neil's commentary would be just that bit funnier.
"No, but I would ask coach why your pale ass isn't on drugs"
"No wonder you both wear black all the time, I'd hate to see you two burn"
Neil pointing at white face paint in the Halloween store: Hey Andrew, it's your shade.
They match ghost costumes on halloween without realising and then next year they're both vampires. They learn to coordinate after that.
Just like... the twinyards but the odds are even more physically stacked against them. That is all.

it genuinely makes me so happy that the twins have the next three years together. obviously they have the rest of their lives after that but recently I've been thinking about those three years specifically, once the deals are broken and there aren't a million other life threatening things demanding their attention.
things are technically the same as they've been for the past two years except they can only get better. except that the twins are growing. and while that's happening, they still get three years of living down the hall from each other, three years of seeing each other every single day, three years of therapy, three years of working together on the court, three years of working on themselves as brothers (to the point where, when it does come time to leave, they canonically have a hard time physically pulling away). three years where they can focus on themselves and on each other, and recover so much of what was taken from them. three years of learning how it's going to feel to have a brother for the rest of their lives.
