Thoughts on the discourse behind jurix/juripearl?

Honestly, I didn’t have a clue till a couple days ago.

I remember getting an Anon Ask about this creator before (similar to this question), but I left it unanswered because 1). I didn’t know anything about the situation, so I wasn’t about to start spreading false information on something I knew nothing about. 2). I’m on this app to write fanfiction, read fanfiction, and look at beautiful fanart. Not discourse.

However.

I decided to look into it, because of this ask. So without starting any fights over who supports that blog/who doesn’t, this is my view on it; they’re homophobic.

If they wanted to ship Levi Ackerman with female characters (i.e. Petra, Fem!Hange, female OCs, or self ship) that’s totally cool. Great! Good for you! I love me some good Fem!Hange x Levi fanart. But if that’s what they want to see/read/write/draw, then they should just do that.

Instead of bashing the LGBTQ+ community for shipping Erwin x Levi or literally any other male or non-binary characters with him.

I read through their page a little, and no I don’t know everything cause some posts have been taken down so I never saw them. But what I have seen is, in fact, homophobic. And I do not support that behavior.

If that creator doesn’t ship Levi with anyone other than females, that’s cool. Just look at the straight ships then. You don’t need to bash others because you prefer straight relationships.

While searching their page, (One of them apparently, I didn’t know they had more than one acc. I haven’t seen the other one yet) I saw a lot of things they contradicted themselves on just to justify their self proclaimed cannons for Levi and just to justify their homophobia. I’m sorry but their “facts” are wrong. And sometimes weird?? Help me??

But the facts are; We don’t know his sexual orientation. Supposedly he’d never been with someone.

Thus, this leaves the fandom to see it how we want to. It’s literally a fandom, we’re allowed to ship him with whomever we want or no one at all! Or even self ship! It’s all valid and okay and absolutely beautiful!!!

Bottom line here is; I don’t do discourse. I don’t do drama. But I’ll take a stand when homophobia like this is being spread around, cause I can’t stand that shit. It shouldn’t have a platform in which to stand. Ever. I’ll happily dismantle any stage that gets built to preach this bullshit.

//Quick note because I have an ongoing issue with a block evader under the cut

So I have a block evader like I said above, and they block me first on every blog they have/make, but the issue is that they make SEPARATE BLOG ACCOUNTS for each new blog they make. They've also been making new blogs a lot lately, like within a week of each other.

Some might argue I shouldn't worry because they block me first, but the trouble is they block me first and then claim I am harassing them with friends when I am not. I only find out about where their new blogs are a few days after they're made, and I have no interest in contacting them.

They also like to say that I am ruining their fun when they are actively acting like they own their mutuals like property and telling those mutuals to block me based on their biased opinionated vilifying of me.

It's getting tedious tracking out each new separate account blog they make as they pop up, but now I do have some nice people helping me if they notice a new blog pop up by this person so I can keep every one of their accounts blocked in a speedy manner. There's also the matter this has been going on for OVER A MONTH.

And I am not exaggerating when I say this needs to be done when this person has made over 4 separate blog accounts so far from when I used to associate with them to now.

So...They are a headache to block obviously.

I'm getting a little exhausted with their mental gymnastics, projecting on me, and denial of any responsibility or guilt to their own actions consequences alone. The block evading via 4+ blogs and through their mutuals willing to be manipulated into doing so is just an added level.

Normally I wouldn't ever clearly point out anyones antics in this direct while still vague way either, but their escalating antics have pushed me to at least say SOMETHING about it. I still won't name them, not even when asked. People involved with them know who they are and who I am, along with the lies.

People close to me have been avoiding this person and not engaging with them, but are often the ones that notice if a new blog pops up to let me know to block it. They do this for the sake of my mental health and happiness despite this persons antics. I am not online all the time all day like this person to catch onto them spying on me with a new account. I have a life outside of RPing.

That's really all I got to say on this issue at hand.

Please stop with all the separate accounts to block evade and focus on your offline life with your s/o more than RP on here. You clearly need a break to live in reality and I am here for a hobby in my down time while I work on my projects/freelance art commissions. I do not have the time or patience for your immature antics when you like to tout you're nearly the same age as me as an adult.

Not only does the attitude of murderous hatred against doms/tops with hard kinks/fetishes/paraphilias make it difficult for them to practice those kinks (safely and ethically) out of fear of social backlash if it's ever found out even if both they and their partner[s] had a great time and are fine-- but, it actively puts innocent people in danger by equating thoughts and attractions of ANY KIND to the act of hurting others against their will. It equates fantasy, which can oftentimes be played out safely if in a modified way with real harmful actions.

Also, kink is still illegal in many places, so don't "its illegal" me about harder kinks. Law is not morality, none of us are free until all of us are free, etc. You get the gist.

You want to see more doms? Meet someone who can indulge your "scary badwrong" sexy feelings? Then maybe don't actively promote a culture where you put ANY kind of attraction or kink under fire. I’m not trying to attack you, but do you know that proshipper means someone who supports and romanticizes pedophilia, incest, and abuse? Your reblog on that post seems to read that you think antis just hate on people for having ships they don’t like. But it’s completely different than that. Just looking on the proshipper side of Tumblr and the internet and you can see people happily shipping children and adults and making nsfw content of such things.

i appreciate that you're not being outright hostile, but i have to say, that on its own put you above basically every anti i've interacted with.

i understand where antis are coming from, i really do. there are a lot of things on the internet that make me deeply uncomfortable, including the minor/adult ships that you mention. i don't want to anything to do with those kinds of ships and i would be happiest if i never saw them again. which is why i'm proship.

nine times out of ten, if i see that kind of ship brought up on my dash, it's because i was following an anti without realizing it, and they brought it up unprompted and untagged, to talk about how bad it is that they exist. they are the ones putting that kind of content in front of my face and making it harder to avoid.

the thing about people who ship those ships is that they're generally very aware that not everyone wants to see that kind of content, and so they tag it. they make sideblogs to talk about it. they don't go out of their way to shove it in people's faces. that means i, and everyone else who doesn't like it, can avoid it.

what antis want is for it to not exist at all. they want the tags to be purged and blocked, and for anyone who uses those tags to have their accounts deleted. and sure, that might get rid of some of it, but do you know what would happen to the rest? it would stop being tagged. people who don't want to see it wouldn't have the tools to avoid it. this isn't just a hypothetical, that's what's happened any time a fan space has tried to do that.

that's not even getting into the rabbit hole of what should be banned and what shouldn't. obviously any content that depicts real children or real life abuse shouldn't exist and shouldn't be allowed to be posted, but basically any platform that people use already enforces those policies, and there's not much of a slippery slope to go down there. if it involves real living breathing people being abused, it's bad. end of discussion.

but the same can't be said for fiction. ask ten antis for a specific list of all the content that should be banned, and you'll get ten different answers. what about kink? what about roleplay? what about horror and murder and anything that involves fictional characters being graphically tortured? what about people using art to process terrible things that have happened to them? what about art that uses dark themes as a horror element? if you just want to ban anything questionable to anyone, that's the line of thinking that gets any mention of lgbt existence banned. and again, this isn't just a hypothetical, this has happened before, and that's generally where it leads.

i know, from personal experience, that antis do, in fact, send harassment to people just for shipping things they don't like. i've gotten accused of absolutely vile shit for shipping two fictional characters who were both consenting adults. i've seen ship wars turn into moral battlegrounds, over ships that an average person wouldn't bat an eye at.

the thing about "romanticization" is a whole other can of worms. the anti logic goes like this: if someone sees something (even if it's very obviously fictional) in a positive light enough times, they will start thinking it's okay in real life, and go on to hurt real people. the problem with that is that it's just. blatantly untrue.

if it were true every horror movie fan would be a serial killer, every person that studies dark media would be an unhinged psychopath, and everyone who is into ddlg would be a pedophile. but they're not. they just aren't. people have directed movies just as fucked up as the darkest shit on ao3, and are still capable of being normal human beings who know right from wrong in real life.

even if someone is that impressionable, scrubbing away the existence of every piece of questionable content isn't going to solve their problem, because they're still going to be vulnerable to con men, scams, and cultists. the only thing that would actually materially help someone like that is developing their own morals and critical thinking.

children are also more impressionable, and there's a lot of content that's not suitable for them, but that doesn't mean that content shouldn't exist. it just means that they should stick to spaces designed for them (which most social media sites, tumblr included, are not) or, if they're old enough to be responsible for their experience online, they, or a trusted adult in their lives, should block and filter out things that they aren't comfortable with.

which is what everyone on the internet should be doing. it's what i do, and it's made the internet a much more pleasant place to be. and it's why i sometimes worry for antis mental health, especially teenagers, because they're being told it's right and moral to seek out content that makes them uncomfortable and to engage with the people making it. and that's just. really bad. it's not good for the creators that they're harassing obviously, but it's also really bad for them! it's not healthy to seek out things that make you feel bad, and it's a terrible internet safety lesson to teach minors that it's okay for them to seek out and engage with people making adult content.

individual harassment and crusading is never going to succeed at removing dark content from the internet. it just isn't. at best you might get a small percentage of people who create that content to stop sharing it, at worst you're just going to make people stop tagging it, and either way, you're exposing yourself to things that make you feel bad, when you don't have to.

if you want to materially change the type of content you see, you can. the block button is your friend, use it liberally. same with content filtering and tag blocking.

I think it's important for people that aren't from the US to know that quackity having his address doxxed isn't just dangerous because crazy fans might show up at his door.

It is incredibly dangerous for any cc that lives in the US to have their address leaked because they can be swatted with just a 911 call, and it can happen more then one time.

I greatly suggest watching qtcinderella's interview with anthony padilla where she specifically talks about multiple experiences with swatting, that were so bad she got actual ptsd from them.

It is extremely important to note that qt and ludwig are white and this is how traumatizing those experiences were for them, even with their privilage. Quackity is not a white man, quackity is a mexican man, living in a country with a police force known for their racism and xenophobia, which has actively gotten many innocent people killed simply because of their race or where they came from. Swatting is danger for any cc, but for quackity it is even more so.

Saw a post of an anti saying that they are leaving AO3, as they are too uncomfortable to post their fics there now. The reason? They found out one of their long time readers was a proshipper, despite their fics having proship dni. And how "that includes silent readers too, I don't want you all looking at my content."

My brother in christ, you are posting on the fiction freedom site. The proshipping site. Dnis aren't god damn restraining orders. They are one tool in helping you display your boundaries. It's still on you to enforce your boundaries. You post something publicly, you forfeit your ability to regulate who can view your work. If you're obsessive enough, you can regulate who actually interacts with your work by stalking each person in the kudos list, comments, or bookmarks and then blocking snyone you don't like, but you do not get a say on who may silently read your posts. Not unless you private your work and only show it to specific people.

And if you don’t want proshippers to interact, get off the profic site.

i absolutely cannot believe people are trying to start discourse about whether nex benedict was actually nonbinary / whether it was okay for him to describe himself as nonbinary to some people if he didn’t actually identify that way as if he isn’t literally DEAD because he was KILLED. this is a MURDERED CHILD and these monsters are so busy getting mad at the possibility that he might have been a trans boy who described himself as nonbinary to his family because that was easier for them to take that they’re turning a CHILD who was MURDERED into fucking discourse. even when we die at the hands of cis people’s violence, our own community finds a way to make us the villains of the story.

and all of this bullshit on top of the ways that cis people are already trying to say our grief over his death is unjustified. all of this on top of people claiming he wasn’t murdered and speculating on other causes of death (i literally saw someone say he “clearly went home and took the coward’s way out” and i have never been more disgusted) or claiming that he started the fight as if any action on his part could’ve been enough to justify his death. i am haunted by the sound of his father screaming that his child was not filth because that is what people have been saying about this poor kid, that’s how cruelly his memory is being treated, and even the trans community can’t get it’s shit together enough to look past the stupid discourse and see the tragedy in front of us. did you all forget that it was supposed to be up to us to grieve him in the way he deserves when the rest of the world fails to care if people like him live or die? did you all forget that this child was our sibling, the future of our community, a life that we should have had the chance to know and treasure while he was still here but that we now have a responsibility to hold close to our hearts in his absence? nex’s life was precious and it was ended far too soon and if you truly believe that anything is more important than mourning his life and fighting for a world where no more trans people have to meet such an awful fate, you’re a traitor to this community and you do not deserve the place you occupy within it.

i’m so tired. i can’t even imagine how tired his family must be, to see the public treat the child they’re grieving so horribly, to see the world fail their baby again. leave him alone. he was already robbed of peace in life; the least you can do is let him finally have it in death.

I will say one more thing before moving the fuck on and waiting for more. Cause I have a feeling there will be more eventually.

I am completely believing and supporting Shubble. Shubble’s the victim and she did not name her abuser for a reason. We should not jeopardize her plans.

Now, on a unrelated note, I will still be supporting Wilbur as well until if he’s found to be 100% clearly the guy who Shubble is talking about.

I believe in innocent until proven guilty and similarities and coincidences (like Wilbur also being a biter and someone with a messy place (and an ant infestation), and Zoe leaving Lovejoy for some reason) don’t equal evidence.

It’s hearsay and conjecture and I want to see more shit then that to believe that Wilbur’s the abuser.

So, I believe Shubble and that she needs all the support she can get. And I believe that Wilbur is innocent. Until there’s a legitimate update, I will be moving on from this.

Speculating on who the abuser is will only put Shubble in more danger. There’s no good result coming from jumping conclusions right now.

Hug Shubble and keep Wilbur out of this until there’s a legitimate connection. And even if there is a connection, focus on helping Shubble. We aren’t the law, y’all!
