#tw: isolation
Note
Hi! Can i ask for a self aware twst when the reader surprises adopted Silver as their son. Like just pointing at him and saying 'you are my child now' with Silver, Lilia and Sebek. Hope you have a good day!
Hehe. Anon, you know what you are doing. In fact, I would say you even want the chaos. And for that I love you come here so I can hug you.
Self-aware au
I do not take any responsibility for you reading this no matter which age group you are from!
WARNINGS: Yandere themes, Diasomnia chapter spoilers (Lilias part, maybe Sebek), religion, violence, isolation, kidnapping, obsessive behavior
Lilia Vanrouge/(Platonic) Silver/Sebek Zigvolt-Adopting Silver
Tumblr media
Oh ok. Cool cool coolcoolcoolcoolcool
Well, at least that one room dedicated to you in the form of an altar can now be used for more practical uses (finally)
When Lilia heard you say those words and point at his son, he fell from the chandelier he was dangling from
Not only did he have to navigate through not accidentally telling his son that he was the blood related son of an enemy general and that exactly this general killed Malleus mom
But also that he had now a second parent that also happened to be god
Mhm totally normal
Conversations to strangers about his family were already playing out like this in his head:
Hi, I am Lilia Vanrouge, yes the one in your history book, this is my son Silver, yes he looks like a certain knight, and my lovely partner and also parent of this lovely human, yes, FU**ING GOD THEMSELVES
Ah yes, sitting in church will totally not be awkward after this
Bro legit sits you down with a pen and paper, asking you to sign the marriage certificate
Asks you what flowers you want to have on your wedding. Doesn't matter if you are a woman, man or identify as something else, he is planning that
Also has already planned out how to get you into the Valley of Thorns without anyone noticing
Because no matter how devoted he is to you, he will always be too greedy to share your attention with someone else
You could have said this as a joke or some other protective instinct towards the silver-haired male but all that man's father hears is a marriage proposal
Lilia is just happy that you feel some sort of positive way to his family member (makes things easier when you are stuck in that cabin)
I mean, he did see Silver as a present from you, a child meant to bring him back to the light after being so long in the shadow of war
And now the three of you were together! How lovely!
Which would mean that you planned this all along. Dear Overseer, if you liked the idea of you being a family you could have just told him so
He will be the best partner to raise a child together you could dream of
And should someone dare to interrupt the perfect, peaceful life you three (plus two more) had, he wouldn't mind swinging that sword again
Tumblr media
Wait what?
What do you mean with that?
Are you sure you want him to be your son? Really?
Apparently he was not the only one surprised since he could hear the thud of his father falling to the ground behind him and Seek screaming somewhere behind him
Be prepared for a silver haired knight to look at you with the biggest puppy eyes and ask "Do you really want me as you son?"
Critical hit! Someone call a doctor. I think the Valley of Thorns god can be killed by cuteness
After that he is glued to your side (even though you have to part sooner or later since he is not living in Ramshackle)
One morning you woke up to the guy standing there with some food being like "I made some food."
Like where the Heck did he even get the keys for the dorm? (He broke in through a hole in the ceiling)
Silver always comes running to you whenever he does something and wants praises
Once he was best in one of his classes and he stood there with the report like he could turn into a dog and get headpats from you any second
But, as I am sure you are aware of, this is a blog with yandere themes and we have to say goodbye to the fluff at some point
That sword training comes in handy is all I'm saying
I mean, he has probably enough strength to break someone's leg with his bare hands by simply applying some pressure
And that one Diasomnia student that tried to take his son-status away from him was found again in a not-so-compatible-state-with-life kind of situation
I'm letting you imagine what happened
Like Lilia he is ready to burn everyone who dares to interfere with your little family
The forests of his homeland are pretty though so no need to worry about the appearance of your surroundings once they bring you to your new home (who needs social interaction anyways?)
Tumblr media
A second of silence
And then the screaming started
“OH HOW KIND OF OUR OVERSEER! TO SHOW A MORTAL THEIR KINDNESS AND CARING SIDE!”
Seek would be lying if he said that he wasn't surprised
You, aka the Overseer, aka some higher being, AKA GOD, were known in the Valley of Thorns to be kind and caring, yet also distant and never approaching others directly
But then you literally adopt someone, making that person someone in your inner cycle?
Well, if Sebek knew one thing then that those Priests were going to have a crisis as soon as they learned about this
Totally not jealous
He would try to get closer to you since, apparently, you did allow others to get close to you
But he was happy as long as you were
After all, he was now the (not-so-official appointed) shield of the Valley of Thorns, something he got passed on by his grandfather
So of course he couldn't be family with you
That didn't mean he couldn't “help” you
Someone intruded on that dinner you had with Lilia and Silver?
Ouch… that punch must have hurt
Whenever Silver or his Father had to interfere because someone else came too close then they were some incredibly slick (looking at you Rook) or lucky person
Don't let his loud mouth fool you
This crocodile has done unmentionables in your name in order to make things easier for your new found family
For what? Oh you know, becoming his neighbor back home… forever

i feel like i sped ran all of ur posts i’m in luv <33 do u think i could maybe… be…🫧-anon??
anyways here’s me little brainrot on scaramouche/wanderer bc i love him
pervy!scara who would hide u under his desk during fatui meetings and make you suck and kiss his cock, all the while you have to hold back whimpers in fear of being discovered :((
yandere!scara who would slowly isolate you from everyone else until you feel abandoned :( but don’t worry! he’s dealt with plently of betrayals, all you need is him!
thinking about a yan!scara x touch starved/traumatized reader scenario. reader genuinely loves scara, and all their past trauma just makes them that much more attached to him. they look past all the red flags and think that this is the best thing for them!! Of course, scara is happy to receive the love, and gladly gives them everything they want :)) scara controls readers surroundings just to make them that much more attached and needy for him and his help! what a good boyfriend he is!
minor writing smut, dni if uncomfortable!!!
Tumblr media
omg nonnie!!! ofc you can be 🫧 anon!!! i will write about these in order they’re just too good :(
tw: noncon/dubcon idrk which one of the two to classify this as, i think that’s it tbh
i love love love the idea of pervy scara!!!! and i think it’s just that much better when it’s not in an au or anything so that there’s the power difference of him being a harbinger :( he’d make sure he got to the meeting before anyone else just so that he could feel your mouth wrapped around him during the boring discussions that just seem to drag on for so long :( if he thought you were having it too easy he’d quickly thrust up his hips, just enough to make you gag around him though, he does still have a reputation to keep :(
tw: yandere, heavy stockholm syndrome, like really heavy, like that’s almost entirely what this part is about you’ve been warned, isolation
i think he’d be the most likely to do this out of all the genshin yanderes, he’s just so so mean and so so lonely (and tbh a little bit pathetic and soggy but that’s part of his charm) he wouldn’t want you to look at anyone but him :( i think if his usual punishments with pain and degradation weren’t working he’d even take it a step further and leave you alone in a room for however it takes you to break :( he’d bring you 3 meals a day and plenty of water though!! he’d just ignore you whenever you tried to touch him or even just talk to him :( he’d look at you like you like you’re just a disgusting speck of dirt to him, and that’d continue until eventually you’d break and end up begging him to talk to you, to touch you again, to just do something so that you know you aren’t completely alone :( i think if what you did to deserve that punishment was bad enough he’d let it go in past that point, waiting until you’re clinging to his clothes, full on sobbing for him to pay attention to you again, and physically not letting him leave, then he’d bend down and gently wrap you up in his arms, cooing soft praises and sweet little nothings at you while he reassures you that, “shh, shh, it’s all ok, i’m here now, you don’t have to be scared anymore. i’ll take care of you, it’ll be just how it’s supposed to be.” :( he’d run you a nice, warm bath and pretend like he wasn’t also the one who did this to you, still holding you in his arms and whispering sweet, comforting little words and phrases in your ear :(
tw: yandere, kinda sorta stockholmish??? definitely not as bad as the last one but it’s kinda there, toxic relationships
i think this one is especially good with scara cause i think he’d be just so sad whenever his darling is mean to him, so when you actually, genuinely love him for who his is, obsessiveness and all, he’s overjoyed!! and he’s even more excited when you seek him out yourself and ask him for cuddles or a kiss or even just to sit next to him for a while :( i think he’d try to test you in the early stages of your relationship, just to make sure you aren’t pretending to love him back while you secretly plan to leave him. poor scara has trust issues, can you really blame him? :( besides, he’s made all his red flags more than clear by now, if you’re dumb enough to ignore them then that’s no skin off his back. after he decides you’ve passed his tests he’d become a lot more comfortable showing his true colors with you, gradually adding more rules and restrictions to your schedule, not letting you leave the house unless you’re with him, adding a lock to the outside of your bedroom door and not letting you have a key, making sure to always keep some rope around “just in case” :( eventually, it’d turn into you not being allowed to leave the house at all, and you constantly being in his arms or tied up when he can’t hold you himself. he knows you won’t mind as long as he continues to ravish you with his love and attention though. you’re just so perfect for him, how did he get so lucky? :(

I don’t know how to feel about this. I just couldn’t stop thinking about watching the rain and reflecting on Neuvillette. Also, who knows what might change as he is officially released. This is just an idea that was eating my soul.
Also, requests are open. I don’t really need to close them, but I am still slow with writing since I work full-time. I am hoping to branch off a little more from just Enstars requests, and ,I’ve taken a lot more of an active interest in writing for Jojo specifically, but anything works.
Tumblr media

plitter-platter, plitter-platter, plitter-platter—
The rain had been pouring for some time now, longer than usual. What could have set him off for so long was still unknown. The drumming of the rain against the window, your head pressed more into it and away from the armrest of the chair, almost as if hoping by sheer luck you’d phase through the glass and be set free. The sound of the rain, once so peaceful, has grown to become nauseating. Ringing in the depths of your ears and into your soul, plaguing as a reminder of the life you now had. When there is nothing to shut it out, it only digs in more into the predicament you’ve been chained to. No more are the cozy aspects of the rain curled up in a family home with food, cooking, and music as the rain danced across the roof or the time with friends running through the storm in attempts to find shelter, laughs filling the air—just you and the room.
Well, the room could be your fault. You weren’t physically chained there— not anymore, but the walls of the home, as big as they were, only served to mock you. Too big of a cage, a labyrinth that could only make the looming fear of loneliness bury itself between your ribs and bloom across your heart. The shadows of people known not to interact with you but their whispers tickling in your ears. Sounds of them adding about their personal lives and families, trips, gossip across Fontaine… all while your days had become mostly kept in silence. No, you’d rather stay in here… just one room that you could build into an escape paradise from the weighing ache the rest brought you—filled with books, a window [that you had spent countless hours fighting with], plush chairs, and per your request some plants. You managed to get your argument across to him on allowing for such necessities; although he liked to remind you what he had given, he could just as much take away. Though you knew his bleeding heart for you, that under it all, he craved the love he one day believed you’d give him. Punishments were honest; you knew that much had been burned into your brain, but it was rare that little things would be a trigger for him to take account less you become too much of a “brat.” Ugh, how easy it was to scoff at that term— treating you like a child having a tantrum compared to the reality of a human stuck in the grasp of the inhuman judge himself.
Sometimes, you wondered what was better; he often was gone. Working, fulfilling a role you had to bite your tongue to denounce him from. If someone couldn’t understand humans, couldn’t understand what drove them to petty crimes and the struggles so many befall, why should he be allowed to make the calls? Judge-free, unbiased… no, that isn’t the way to handle it; you knew the pain of it all weighed down on him, which was something enough [better than doing so without remorse] but didn’t alter the unfair nature of the law. Not when, through it all, you ended up here, a product for his love rather than a participant. But him being gone didn’t change the aching; with the limited interactions, it was only through him the loneliness had a moment to dull. Even if you hated to admit it, you were only human— only able to crave someone to share time with to break the deafening silence of the home. Of the rain. It scared you. To know if he was around more, around enough that your fight to be free would extinguished. You’d lose yourself, complacent in a life you never asked for. If he was home more, would you lose yourself faster, lose the motivation to escape, and become just another wheel in the cog of fate? Or would you have more time to whittle down his defenses and create more openings for means of escape? The thought could only make your heart beat faster, drumming along to the rain, though was it out of fear or excitement? It was hard to tell.
plitter-platter, plitter-platter, plitter-platter—
Breathe fogged up a patch of the window, the cooling glass chilling the chunk of the forehead that was placed against it. The feeling was uncomfortable, both in angle and blooming chills from the material, but not enough to want to move. The rain was still falling, though slowly dying down. He’d be home soon, creeping into the room looking for you just like every night. Days spent on loop, blending more and more into each other. He didn’t mind crying in front of you, often the tears adorning your shoulder or back as he held you close, but he seemed to try to keep the outside world— well outside. He knew it upset you, that it’d turn into some argument, and he’d need to find a reason to punish you for breaking the rules. You often had to bite your tongue, wanting to tell him this is why inhuman creatures shouldn’t have human partners. The gap in communication, feelings and needs was too much. It was killing both of you. You could feel it as he wept, the soft rain showers of him just not understanding, not being able to communicate effectively the motions of his heart.
Two drops lined up just centimeters from your face. The mark of a race, the starting line. It was a time that once was so innocent when you were a kid choosing a random drop and narrating it in your head as you waited for the storm to pass so you could go out and play. ‘Woe is me’ could only be how you thought of it now. Him and you set up for the race— the starting line and… go.
Rolling down the frame and collecting other droplets, their trails jumping and altering in their paths as gravity dragged them down. One pulled into the lead, always him. He was always one step ahead, one smarter and more intuned. Like a kid with their hand in the cookie jar, he always found your new escape attempt and could see through your flowery words of deception. In that sense, you had to admit his role fits him well, but only left the bitter remains of the stems in your mouth when he locked you back up with a ‘you’ll be let out when you learn not to lie.’ It must be something tied to him on a fundamental level, a sense. Or perhaps it was just age, something you could never achieve. You couldn’t count how many times you watched the droplets race, hoping that maybe just once you could be one step ahead, one…
No. Even if you did, where would you go? The melusine were everywhere, and getting out within reach of the court would be a life sentence of punishment. Perhaps solace somewhere in the underground community, but someone likely would sell you out to better favor their outcome. You could break for the border; it’d be brutal and dangerous, a bounty on your head faster than you could imagine. Would other regions even be safe from a runaway? Maybe some other small communities… would become looking for you? Would you have to always stay alert for the rest of your life? Would you have to live alone, fending only for yourself? You’d lose yourself just as much in a life like that, but maybe it was the price of freedom. The price of not playing a role, soul withering away trying to maintain the rules and ideals of something you could never understand. When did your thought become so sorrowful, the fight you once had? A flame extinguished by the rain left only as sparks fumbling to stay lit. Look away, it wasn’t over yet. There had to be good out there, people who could understand, you’d take you in. Life would never be easy again, but it wasn’t over. Not yet.
Lifting your head from the window was always weirdly comforting, the movement restored to your neck and it stretching back into place. The coolness of the glass no longer flushed against your skin, allowing the heat of the room to melt away the temperature. Rest your mind, reset your body. He never minded the long game, maybe as time for him felt infinite. But rushing would only cause holes in a plan you couldn’t keep affording to lose. The storm would pass, and you’d find a way to relight that flame. You couldn’t let him win, and you couldn’t let this system win.
plat, plat, plat…
“My love,” he spoke. He— Neuvillette, was home. The rain had stopped, only some residue drops highlighting the storm moments before. He stood in the doorway, hand holding the frame as his voice reverberated across the silent room. He always waited for you to notice him before entering. Permission didn’t matter, but in a sense, it tended to bring some comfort to know where the dragon lurked. It only took a brief flash of eye contact for him to take it as clearance into entering the room, legs quickly carrying him to your seat.
Neuvillette stood in front of you, pristine and put together; his eyes sharply focused on you, and his neutral expression made him seem more intimating than you knew he was. You had been here long enough as well to see the faint but dried crust of where his tears had pooled down his cheeks from moments just before. It didn’t change the power radiating off him, seeping into the room and over you like a blanket to remind you he was in charge here. Curiosity burned in your stomach, leaping up your throat, wanting you to ask what could have caused him to cry so much.
Gossip regarding the law wasn’t to be taken seriously, but the lack of outside world stimulation always makes the prospects more enticing. It burned in your mind to know what was happening outside of your cage, in the world below. Though asking would only come back to haunt you, the fights that led to punishments burned into your mind and skin even if the physical sides had healed. Not to mention the way he would take it if the words even managed not to set off a disagreement, that you cared. Neuvillette may be blind to human emotions and feelings, but he did have his own set— and that presented as caring for him on the most basic level of touch or tone only worked against you. Solidifying your partnership, your love in his mind.
The silence was always more deafening when he stood before you; that even a breath would break the moment. His hand was delicate, though, floating to your head before wistfully tracing your hair and to your chin. It tickled, enough you wanted to flinch but knew better as he tilted your head to look into his eyes more. Pulling his hand from your face, he held it with his palm up. You knew what he was asking. Take his hand, but don’t look away. Unlike his graceful movements, you didn’t have as much time before his eyes would narrow, a sign of rejection in his eyes— he couldn’t take it. Unlike for humans, you could only assume there was something dormant, something innate that drove the ideas of jealousy, rejection, and the need to isolate on a biological level rather than mental. People could do just the same; you knew this for a fact, but the way he carried it out felt more visceral. Not doing so wasn’t an option; it freed him from his own judgment because nothing could defy the fact of biology.
Your hand moved from instinct; at least, at this point, it was strange to think of how things now were ingrained in you. The movements of hands, replying to questions, from when it was time to sleep and wake up to where you walked through the day. That it just instantly would click, a passive thought or action. Not trained into you but a reflection of your life, how the passing days and routines with him had become a staple in your life. You had changed since then, proof that whatever was to come was inevitable—a mark of fate.
Pulled to your feet, Neuvillette wrapped his arm around your torso, still ghostly with his touches. His face now resting on your hair as he breathed– in and out. The tension in his body released just slightly, but as if you were the answer to what had been weighing down on him. “My love,” he repeated, lips softly tickling the top of your head, “come on. Let’s have dinner.”
The routine of your long day: Neuvillette returns from work to fetch you from your room to a meal before settling into bed together. He’d try to make a convo, and sometimes you’d reply. Other times, he’d focus on reading something, and you’d do the same or just turn your back, hoping he’d get the hint. There was no use in fighting it; the rules layered in stone.
“Okay.”

TW: isolation, captivity.
Whumpee singing to themselves in their cell, too keep from going insane with the silence that came from isolation.
The song they frequently sang was something a loved one used to sing for them.

Now that I'm finally back to writing this fic...
TW: Depression, Isolation. I took myself back to when I was at my most sick in order to write this chapter, and I won't lie, it was difficult. I tried to show River's deteriorating mental state as well as possible without getting into any explicit descriptions of the places that state could take him. But, uh. We've all seen the show. Yeah, he's not doing great right now.

Sorry the quality is kinda screwy, I couldn't figure it out. Anyway, this makes me want to write some Dark Cayde stuff but I'm not sure where to start. Also, if there are some tags this needs, please let me know and I'll add them.

I don't see much Sebek. This one is a bit short and also has a musical accompaniment, linked here.
Content warning for kidnapping, emotional abuse, isolation, forced relationships, yelling, physical abuse, slight burns, reader is nostalgic for the past
It was like this every day. At noon, he would enter and kneel before the bare legs of his kept beloved to press his cold lips against their palms. At noon, they would give him that same dull look he received every day for three months. At noon, the room would tense, and they would remain silent.
This day was no exception. His scabbard did not so much as touch the ground as he knelt, back as stiff as his perfectly gelled hair. He pressed a soft kiss against both of their palms, humming as he relaxed slightly.
“Afternoon, human.” He said, stiffly, forehead pressed against their fingertips.
Perhaps, from the outside looking in, this was a comedy show. He treated them like an unloved spouse, someone who he was dedicated to, but out of necessity more than love. Perhaps it was a soap opera, or something of the like, where he was always aloof to hide his true feelings.
“I see you’re well.”
His tone was so dry, but he was no longer shouting. He used to pace, until he realized they weren’t going anywhere. They never could go anywhere.
With his head still in their hands, he asked,“Is there anything you’d like? Perhaps-”
He’d usually cut himself off anyway, voice trailing from it’s previous volume, but today they spoke up.
“Maybe some tea.”
His back stiffened, tense line hard against his simple tunic. Before their kept status, he would serve them while they chatted with the young master, and shortly after their relationship had been blessed by the young master, they began having tea together as a couple.
That must have been years ago now. They stopped having tea together when he became erratic, when he began to accuse them of seeing other people, when he began having shouting matches against a whisper. They tried to leave, tried to get away from him, but the doors were all closed, all backs turned, until the only face they could see was the one with his pale, angular features.
His smile was cruel, the day he locked them in this spartan room, spare of any sign of life or soul. A double bed, a chair and table, a nightstand, and a wardrobe. The window was filthy, and even now, they hadn’t bothered to clean it, content to stare through the yellow film at nothing in particular.
His voice was even more cruel, mocking as they stopped speaking entirely. If he wanted to yell, he could do so by himself. They let him burn himself out, simply watching until he threw a candle once and it exploded against a wall. The wax had splashed and hit them in the face, and he had been gentle cleaning the burns, but they wouldn’t forgive him. He had held his temper after that, of course, but they didn’t forgive him.
No, their voice echoing against the cold stone walls was not a sign of forgiveness. They missed the man they had fallen in love with, they missed his loud guffaw and passionate attitude, and they missed being free with him. They missed his true smile, they missed his soft voice.
They stared as he lifted his head, smiling as though he had gotten away with something awful. The yellowed daylight flashed against his sharp canines and incisor, made him look like some sort of monster, like something that would eat them whole, and they weren’t sure they cared.
“Of course, my love.”

The Cracks
A look into Walter and his relations with emotions, especially regarding Megan and her death. Because I felt like Walter was very valid in his breakdown in 2x12 ‘Dam Breakthrough’ and deserved to cry more.
On AO3.
Ships: none
Warnings: grief, isolating oneself and crying (don’t worry, it’s h/c)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walter has emotions. Of course he has, just because he has always struggled with understanding them in himself and others, doesn’t mean they’re not there. Thinking otherwise is foolish.
However, Walter could follow the reason that lead people to the assumption that he does not have any emotions, seeing as he actively encourages that notion in an attempt to keep people away from trying to pry into his business, while simultaneously creating an excuse for his social slip ups and misunderstandings.
So, yeah, he has emotions. Sadly.
It’s not that he would like to not have emotions, since it is a natural process and it is a central part of a functioning brain. And he must admit the positives are nice. It is just that the negatives happen more frequently in his life.
Looking back at his childhood, his parents tried, but never connected. His classmates and teachers hated him and didn’t understand, bullying him where possible. Only Megan liked him and got what was happening in his brain, but she couldn’t always be there for him and got sick.
There was also Cabe, of course, but the positives he brought were helped into the ground by Baghdad, a negative that often makes him wish he doesn’t have emotions.
All in all, emotions are confusing and complicated. It’s a hypothesis that has been proven over and over in Walter’s life. They only bring conflict, which in turn gives more negative emotions and that makes every ineffective. Logic dictates that no emotions is more productive.
Thus, Walter swears off emotions, in a sense. He knows he has them, he just chooses not to engage in them. It makes life easier for everyone. Well, except him maybe, but not often enough to cause problems that need rectifying.
He deliberately stunts his own emotional growth, until he can believe in the robot-like personality he presents. He grows into himself, into the person he needs to be if he wants to cope with all the negative that comes his way. All the taunts. All the looks. All the times he is ignored.
So, Walter moves to the US, goes to college and tries to built a career wherein his social skills aren’t an issue.
At first, he tries a few normal careers like forensic analyst, but that doesn’t work out exactly. It does, however, lead him to the people that will someday form his family. He finds Happy, Sylvester and Toby. They’re like him. He gets them and they get him.
It doesn’t matter that he is terrible socially, because the people that matter are also terrible socially and together they figure it out.
And for a long time, life is good like that.
He tries for his friends and it works. He is able to see to it that they are happy, content, in a place that is effective to their health and well being. His sister is in decline, but they can still hike together and laugh. She still gets him and that is enough.
They build Scorpion, their cyclone. It might not be the most successful business out there, but they make it work.
Enter Paige.
Paige is everything Scorpion is not. Everything Walter is not. Everything to Ralph that they didn’t get from their parents. And Paige is also a giant mirror reflecting all the skills they lack.
While Walter knows he is the one that brought her on for that exact reason, the continuous confrontation with his own inabilities is concerning and uncomfortable. Walter doesn’t like feeling like he’s incapable, which is ironic, because the whole thing is about him not feeling.
He just hadn’t taken into account the emotional distress that would come with encountering years of burying anything that came close to being a feeling.
It’s upsetting. It’s upsetting and his defense mechanism to feelings is ignoring said feeling, which is unproductive to Paige’s purpose; making them more comfortable with emotions and human interactions.
So, yeah, it has been a struggle.
It is a struggle.
Walter is struggling.
He isn’t used to struggling and that is also not helping. Because he can see how everyone around him is improving and how he is lagging behind. Lagging behind is also not something he is used to, but every attempt to catch up, blows up in his face.
The fact that he has trained himself into being a robot is proving difficult to unlearn. He is pretty sure Toby would have a field day with that. Also pretty sure the Doc already figured it out and is letting him be out of nicety (it doesn’t escape his attention that a few years ago, Toby wouldn’t have had that foresight, nor the fact that none of the team would have considered his feelings back then, since they only got to know him after he had built up his defenses successfully).
It is odd, but not unpleasant to be considered like that, though it is also terrifying. When he tells Megan about it, she laughs at him, before saying: “This is good, Walter. Being considered it good, it’s what friends do.”
“No, it is not good,” he says. “It means my systems are failing and I cannot keep the distance I desire.”
“You don’t want distance, you idiot,” she smiles, pulling him into a hug that he subconsciously melts into, unable to stop it. “This Paige girl is good for all of you, trust me.”
“How can you know?” he asks, still doubting his own decision despite the visual improvements in Scorpion since she has been hired.
“Want the facts?”
“Always.”
“You telling everyone you don’t feel makes you vulnerable to being a doormat, since they walk all over you without regard for your emotions, since they think you don’t have them, which makes work more difficult and less effective,” she answers bluntly. “The fact that they are all becoming aware that you do have them, is positive. It’s a strength, not a weakness. And you feeling in return makes them feel more safe, trust breeds productivity.”
Walter regards her for a second, then says: “I hate it when you use logic against me,” making her laugh again. He likes that she is happy.
Despite the fact that he meant that comment, her words do push him to try harder. He tells himself that it is because logic dictates that she is right and he follows logic. However, a small part of him knows that he just wants to make her proud.
He doesn’t claim it is a 100% successful, but he is finally making progress and that counts for something. Doing something right socially feels more like a victory than all the awards he has won ever had.
They save the world – well, not the world-world, but enough people that the hyperbole is warranted – and grow closer. They have always been a cyclone, but now they’re a family.
Walter has Cabe back, the father figure he never had. They have Paige, who guides, who is patient, who doesn’t mock, but holds their hand instead. They have Ralph, someone like them, who will never have to go through what they did.
It’s good. Almost too good. On a logical level Walter knows that statistically the level of goodness life is, doesn’t effect things that happen to them. But with their life, he can’t help but think that maybe it will all come crashing down, like it has to at some point. Nothing keeps rising, some things get stuck, but most things fall.
Maybe that’s why he introduces Megan to the team. Lets her close to the family he built separately from her, because he was afraid the open child he used to be would slip through with her around to prod and push him in that direction.
Though he has become quite good in keeping up his front and combining that with the progress the team made, he feels more at ease with showing his more caring side.
He even makes another friend, Ray. He might be a bit odd, but Walter is used to odd. Odd is safer than normal, odd usually understands, odd is less likely to judge.
Scorpion is expanding, becoming home. A place of safety where emotions have a bigger place than before. It takes him a while to warm up to it, but Sylvester and Megan make a good couple and it does Walter good to see both so happy.
Naturally it has to fall apart. The ‘naturally’ might not be a logical assumption, but it still feels like it to Walter, because nothing good has ever lasted for him.
Megan is declining. Fast.
He has always known that at some point her health would take a turn for the worse, but he had always hoped that he would be able to stop it, or at least slow it down. Instead, he has to stand there helplessly as she fades, throwing himself into research that is only failing.
Maybe that’s the best description for him, a runner who fails. He has been making progress with Paige and he knows how proud Megan is, but when faced with the emotional monster that is the impending loss of his sister, he shuts down and revers to old habits, none of which are working like he wants them to.
Sylvester is spending more time with Megan than he is. And while he can’t stand to be cooped up not doing anything, a small part hates himself for leaving her behind like that.
He tries to tell himself that he just needs to focus on his research, because then this avoidance won’t matter, because he’ll still have time. Yet, he knows that he just isn’t at a point where he is emotionally equipped to handle this sort of thing. That he hasn’t learned enough. That he isn’t good enough. That he’ll regret what he’s doing now, even if he can’t make himself stop.
What’s worse, is that everyone at Scorpion notices, they all know. He gets looks and talks and he can’t ignore it all, though he is trying.
Walter hates it.
He just hates it.
He hates how Sylvester can accept the empathy and he can’t, how the others dance around him, how the science isn’t good enough, how he can’t hide now that the feelings have been shaken loose, how his parents will react when they get here. How they all look at him.
And it only goes downhill from there. His parents are coming, because they all know Megan is nearing the end.
His research is nowhere near finished and there is nothing he can do to speed it up. To help her. He tries, by all that is logical in this world, he tries. It’s his way of dealing with the waiting, even if he knows it should be him by her side, not just Sylvester.
Their parents serve as yet another reminder that he isn’t there yet, that he doesn’t know how to interact with people, who don’t get it. They rightfully call him out on the fact that he is not there, but all his brain can do is lead his feet away from that hospital, as if working until he drops will change the outcome.
As if he isn’t trying hard enough and if he just did, then it would all be okay, even though it is never going to be okay.
Scorpion might get why he is running, but they don’t understand and he can’t explain. He can only listen as they try to reason him out of an emotional response, thinking that it is his logical brain that is keeping him away from the room where his sister is slowly dying. Where her life, her beautiful lively life, that she has always lived to the fullest, is draining out of her.
Walter will deny this under threat of death, however, he is too emotional to listen to their arguments and sound logic.
And he knows it is going to haunt him for the rest of his life that he wasn’t there for her until the very end. That she didn’t get to finish that sentence, because he was too late. That she knew he wouldn’t be there for her in that moment and had recorded it.
That she still gets him, even from beyond the grave.
That he is alone now.
He watches his parents leave with Sylvester and for a second Megan’s words are strong enough that he reaches out.
The memory is still fresh and his emotions are a tangled mess that he is still unraveling. It leaves him vulnerable enough to override his fear of showing emotion. And he is pretty sure Megan knew that when she left him that video.
So, he has comfort. From his parents and the team.
His family.
Even if it is just for that night.
That first night in a world without Megan.
That first night alone.
It’s the worst night of his life. The comfort is nice, but people leave and soon Walter is alone again and it hits him all again. He is glad everyone is gone and he is alone, however. He doesn’t want anyone to see him cry, doesn’t want others to hear as he sobs to himself on the bed, doesn’t want them to know that he is hugging one of her pillows that he had stolen a bit earlier. One that still smells like her.
And in that night he lets out what he can, before he starts to work through it. Though he has never learned how to do that, meaning he reverts to the toolbox he does have. The one that is full of things he has yet to unlearn.
Walter digs up his oldest safe space. His favorite mask. The face that has served him well through all the years. The one thing he has perfected.
That first night, alone on his bed, cheeks wet from tears he will deny having shed, he sits there and painstakingly puts all his grief, all his hurt, all his sadness and all his guilt, into a little box in his brain, next to the switch he flips as the emotions that bog him down leave.
There is nothing safer to Walter (except Megan) than his metal shield of robotics behind which he has hidden for most of his life. He knows it isn’t healthy, yet it is all he has known, the thing he is certain that works.
It hasn’t failed him before.
Walter is aware that the team is worried by that decision, though they don’t realize he has less control over it than he would have liked. He finds himself mumbling, cradling Ferret Bueller, like the little guy can give him the comfort of a sister.
He just can’t stop it, his brain has subconsciously replaced protecting and saving Megan with keeping Ferret Bueller safe. As if he can make up for failing Megan if he can make sure Ferret Bueller is alright.
But the robot mask that was supposed to be his friend isn’t working like it used to. He starts to mutter to himself. He keeps Megan’s ashes in his car, because he couldn’t stand that dark, cold urn that kept staring at him, though not seeing it constantly also makes him upset.
The whole thing is a confusing mess that throws him off his game – not literally of course, though he isn’t above admitting he is not functioning at a 100% – he wouldn’t put his team in danger over his own emotional turmoil.
Though, he might be more reckless. But why wouldn’t he be? It’s not like anyone depends on him, he has nothing left. Scorpion got better, they can handle themselves. They evolved, while he is getting sucked into a black hole.
Still, it’s concerning how close to the edge he has been walking without noticing, until he falls in face first with nothing to hold the tide.
They have just returned from the dam and he listens to the voice mail. He has won the money. The money that should have saved Megan’s life and is too late instead. He never has enough money for his research and this is life changing as Cabe is saying. But he can’t bring himself to be happy about it, not when she isn’t there with him.
And at that moment he sees the open cage with Ferret Bueller missing. It is just a ferret. For a long time it had just been a ferret to Walter, but not anymore. Not now.
So, he panics and breaks down.
He tears the garage apart looking for the little guy as the team helps with apprehension and concern obvious in their faces. Which he ignores.
When he finds the ferret, he is relieved. He holds the little guy close to him, gently bringing him to the cage until his relief turns to anger. With Ferret Bueller safe, he realizes how he could have failed again. Lost again.
So, he snaps at his teammates. His family. He accuses them, unable to hear it might have been him, who failed to lock the cage. He can’t bear to hear Paige’s placating: “Okay. It’s okay, now, Walt, because the ferret is safe.”
In that moment he hates her. He hates her for telling him that, like it’s that easy after she has dismantled his last hiding place. His comforting unfeelingness. How she doesn’t get it, doesn’t get him. Not like Megan used to.
“Well, I could have lost her,” he hears himself saying, finally piecing together what he had projected onto Ferret Bueller. “Don’t any of you comprehend that? I don’t want that!”
It’s silent after his outburst, everyone just looking at him again with that pity. He can feel his hackles rising, the unease at the emotional display that he had tried so hard to hide from.
“I don’t want to loose her,” he repeats, the tears welling up, despite himself. The tidal wave is too strong to stop now and all he can do is ride it out.
He can only stand there. In his mind all he can hear is Megan’s voice, her message to him. And in that moment he wants to reach out to that comfort he had felt on that first night. He just doesn’t know how.
The tears are in his eyes and throat, choking him, his finger twitch uncertainly and all he can bring himself to do, is stand there, trying not to break completely.
His team obviously doesn’t know what to do either. They just stare back, though he can only see them from far away, like he’s not fully there. He knows that this was stupid, weakness is not good in a leadership position.
However, Scorpion is not just a business, but a family and Walter is proven right in taking Paige on to help them.
Where the others stand helplessly, she takes action. She strides towards him and while he doesn’t dare to reach out, she does as he hoped and embraces him.
“I don’t want to loose her,” he repeats. He buries his head in her shoulder and says: “I didn’t want to loose my sister.”
Paige doesn’t hug like Megan does, but she holds him and that’s enough. Still, he tries to justify his need for the hug, what Megan means to him. “She was…” he begins, trailing of without finding the words. “I miss her so much.”
The he realizes the other are still looking without reacting. He untangles himself from Paige’s embrace, missing the contact the moment it is gone.
“I’m sorry,” he says. “This is unprofessional,” but he can’t keep it all at bay. Like the dam, there is now a crack and the pressure can’t keep building up without release, so it is zeroing in on the weak spot.
Before he can try and figure out how to stem the flow, Sylvester hugs him. For a second, he tenses, then the physical effect of the hug hits him and his body reacts instead of his brain. He slumps down in his arms and the tears truly start to fall.
Loud and ugly sobs rake through his body as his cyclone, his little home, hugs him tight. He clutches to the arms that surround him, feeling love in the exception to physical contact his friends make, because he needs it.
Walter cries for the first time in years.
He cries for Megan, for the only person who has ever fully gotten him. For the haven he has lost with her. For all the guilt that has been pushing down on him. For the little bit of childhood, the good bit, he still had and now lost. He cries for himself, for all the times he let emotions pass him by and bottled them up.
In the end, he isn’t sure how long he cries for, but it must be a long while. When he finds himself again, he’s on the floor, leaning against Sylvester’s side, Toby’s arm slung around him, sandwiching him. His eyes are sore and his throat hoarse.
However, for the first time since Megan’s death, he feels mildly okay. The darkness is a shade lighter and he doesn’t feel so alone anymore.
Happy is at his back, while Cabe a hand on his knee and Paige is squatted in front of him, hand in his as she studies his face and therefore the first to notice him coming back. She gives him a gentle smile and asks: “How are you doing, Walter?”
He takes a moment to think about it, before answering honestly: “Better.”
“That’s good,” Paige’s smile widens. “Anything we can do? Glass of water?”
“Glass of water would be nice,” Walter replies, his voice hoarse. “But-” he hesitates for a moment, before deciding it is what will bring him closure, what Megan would have wanted, “but there is another thing.”
Scorpion listens closely as he tells them what he wants to do. He is still a bit uncertain about his idea, however, the whole team is aboard once he has explained.
They work together smoothly as they set up the rocket, everyone staying close to Walter, ensuring he isn’t alone for a moment. He remembers Megan telling him it was good they considered his feelings and again realizes how right she had been in that observation.
Paige may be their translator for the world, but before her there was Megan and Walter knows that it won’t be the same. That isn’t a bad thing, it will just take time to get used to.
So, they stand on Megan’s favourite beach and watch the rocket launch. His insides swirl with emotion, but for once they aren’t all negative. Reaching out has been good for him and the scientific part of his brain notes down the positive experience and a reminder to do a repeat experiment. Still, for the moment he just lets it be.
Walter has emotions and that might not be as bad of a thing as he thought.
~~
A/N:
I have written the words ‘Ferret Bueller’ too many times for the emotional piece that this is, but I feel justified bc I cry so hard every time that scene comes. Like that episode is my jam.
Me *shaking Walter*: come on little man, show me your inner workings. Cry!
Chapter 2: Nothing Last Forever
She sighs as she looks up at the building she had dreaded going back to, the Umbrella Academy. It was inevitable she was back here. Nothing and no one lasted forever. Even Sir Reginald Hargreeves could not defeat death.
She wasn't surprised to hear voices as she walked through the door. “Sorry I’m late, Pogo,” She smiles and greets Pogo with a hug. As she pulls away, she relaxes her shoulders and lets the Wisp take form. "They already at it?" She asks Pogo.
"Tensions are a bit high under the circumstances," Pogo tells her.
"Well, it is the Hargreeves Family way," she says with a sad smile.
"Fills the quiet, I suppose," he states.
"That it does."
"Took you long enough," Diego says, stopping his arguing with Luther long enough to glare as she enters.
"Some of us actually have jobs that require our attention, Diego," she says as she pushes past him. “I had to swap shifts and make a lot of promises just to be here. Not everyone stalks the streets like an unemployed psycho at night.” She forces a smile and looks at her less infuriating siblings. "Hi," she nods at the others. “I really am sorry I’m late.”
Luther looks like he’s about to say something but doesn’t as he eyes the cold shade and odd intensity of the Wisp as it hovers over her shoulder.
“It’s fine,” Vanya says. “Not like you did it on purpose.”
“Thanks, V,” she says, earning a grumble from Diego. “What now?”
“Of course, you two are still pals. She made you sound like an angel in her book compared to-” Diego is cut off as the Wisp flashes before him, and he scrambles back from the white-hot intensity. He pulls out a knife and throws it at her, but it’s knocked away as the Wisp redirects it with a heated blast. She was careful no one got caught in the crossfire. Her eyes glow the same hue as the Wisp as she manipulates it.
“Still as rude as ever, Diego,” she says, eyes burning as she glares at him. “Can’t even be civilized for a funeral. I’m sure Mom will be so disappointed.”
Diego looks like he’s about to explode with rage but is interrupted as Luther starts talking about a memorial service in the courtyard for their father. It redirects Diego’s ire and eventually devolves into an argument. The argument is mainly between Luther and Diego about whether their father was murdered. Y/N tried not to let her annoyance show as the pointless argument continued. Neither Luther nor Diego would see the other’s point. They’d just argue in circles like they always did. Their other siblings poking holes in one argument or another. She knew in the end it would just be more of the same. Everyone would be angry or at least annoyed, and Luther would probably get his way. He was Number One, after all. She was thankful when they all headed off in different directions throughout their former home. Everyone was off in their own world, and that was fine with her. No one would bother her. Luther’s choice in music at least made her smile. Not all the memories they had of the academy were bad. The ones of their father were, but they had moments of levity. Most of them at least did. She let her mind drift to better times as she looked over her collection of Y/F/Ts before the tune got the better of her, and she moved with the music. But the somewhat peaceful calm never lasts.
It's almost like she can feel the crackle of the energy in the air before the lightning starts. But it didn’t feel right. She knows it’s more than just a lightning storm. There’s extra energy to it. Something different. She makes her way to the courtyard, the others not far behind her.
 They all stare at the glowing blue mass as it hovers off the ground. She switches her consciousness into the Wisp and approaches it, earning an angry shout from Diego and a demand from Luther to stop. She ignores them both. She barely even registers that one of them pulls at her actual arm. Her consciousness primarily focuses on the Wisp. She trusts her siblings enough not to harm her body while her mind is elsewhere. Only giving her body enough attention to keep it from falling to the ground. She moves in a flash as Klaus runs up and throws a fire extinguisher at the hovering mass, or rather portal since the extinguisher just vanishes inside of it. She refocuses her attention as she approaches the portal again. She sees something, someone. Her brothers continue to shout orders. And she continues to ignore them until she feels a strong pull as her body is thrown off balance, and out of instinct, her mind returns to her body. She blinks up at Diego. He’d pulled her body back to block it from whatever might come through the portal. She opened her mouth to ask him why he’d stopped her, but he spoke first.
“What the hell were you thinking?”
“It can’t hurt me when I’m the Wisp,” she reminds him.
“No, but it can hurt this you,” he gestures to her actual body. She hates to admit he is, on some level, correct. Her human form was vulnerable when she was in the Wisp. She still finds it annoying he doubts she can handle herself. She was confident even as the Wisp she’d be able to protect both forms. She had been trained to do that, after all. She is just about to quip back when she looks away from him and freezes. Diego doesn't notice her shift in demeanor. He continues to say, “And instead of protecting everybody, I’m stuck making sure you don’t get-"
"Diego…"
The slight quiver in her tone and the way her hand grips his arm stops him mid-sentence. Instantly has his guard up, and his grip on her tightens. She's never said his name like that. Never. He expected her to fight him. To yell at him for thinking she couldn't take care of herself. He didn't expect her to start to shake.
"Diego, look."
Again it's her tone and the way she is just staring past him that has him doing what she asked without arguments. Everything seems to finally start to register with him. He’d heard the voices of their siblings but not really registered what they had said. He took in the new figure in the courtyard. Mentally cursing his momentary loss of awareness. He knows he got too focused on her and put them both at risk. Distractions get people killed. But the look on Y/N's face catches him off guard.
"It's Five," she says.
He lets her go when she pulls away.
After what could only be considered an interrogation from their siblings, specifically Luther and Diego, Y/N finally got a good look at her newly returned brother. She had watched as Five moved around the kitchen and knew exactly where everything was. She listens as he answers the questions they ask him. But she waits. She lets the others get their answers. She smiles sadly as he talks to Vanya. Only after does she finally speak to him.
"I thought it was my job to push you into doing something stupid, not yours," Y/N tells him. She doesn't miss the way the corner of his lips seems to twitch as he studied her. She didn’t know it but the last time he had seen her, not only was her light gone but so was her life. He was glad to see her light again, even if it wasn't as bright and warm as he remembered.
"You would have told me it was an awful idea, and yes, it was worse than you could possibly imagine. Although, from the looks of it," he gestures to the dim and dark hue of the Wisp. "You've had your fair share of awful too."
"If you really did read V's book, then you know we," she repeats the gesture to her illuminated ally. "We didn't take it well."
"You mean you didn't. The Wisp was always you," Five says. "You always reminded us of that."
She chuckles. "I haven't needed to remind anyone in years. It's just me and the Wisp most days. I guess even I forget sometimes. Somedays, it doesn’t feel like just an extension of me, of my powers. It keeps me company."
"I don't think I like this faded shade of yours," he tutted.
"Shade is…" she smiled sadly. "More accurate than you could possibly know." She repeated his words back to him.
"Well, get the Wisp back in shape, we have work to do, and we're going to need all the power you've got."
"The Wisp is fine. And when have I ever backed down when you offered me a challenge?"
“Never, but I'm about to give you the hardest one of all," he states.
"And that is what?"
"Getting the others to work together," he tells her. "That includes Diego."
She groans.
"He won't listen to me, and it has only gotten worse."
"I don't know,” Five smirks. “You seemed pretty clingy in the courtyard."
"That was different. That was shock," she tells him.
"So when in shock, you cling to Diego, the very person you claim to hate the most? And he just protects you so he can keep fighting you? Sure, Y/N, that makes perfect sense."
"About as much sense as you being back after 17 years of being missing and looking like you never left or aged."
"I made a miscalculation. And Diego, he cares enough to protect you, so I don't think it'll be as hard as you think. You can do it. I know you can."
“What do you need our help for?”
“Hopefully, I won't, but just in case,” he tells her. “I just need you to trust me.”
“I always have, Five. 17 years hasn’t changed that.”
“Good.”
They had said it was time for the memorial. So they all head to the courtyard and into the rain. She hated the rain. Her powers and rain never mixed well. She grips the umbrella handle tight and lets the Wisp vanish. Her body taking on an eerie blue glow from her confined powers. She wasn't surprised that the memorial was an absolute disaster. No one really had much to say. None of them really had fond memories of their father. Luther did his best, but between the rain and the lack of wind, it was almost comical how the ashes just fell to the ground. She almost felt bad enough to attempt to help using her powers. Almost. She could try to superheat the air around her and form some kind of draft, but she couldn’t stop the rain. Any thought of assistance went out the window when Diego and Luther started to fight. What she didn't expect was Ben's memorial statue to get wrecked when their fight turned physical. If anyone had been paying attention, they would have seen the blue hue she had was now a heated red. Her eyes started to glow like embers revived from a rush of oxygen. Her fury acting like a backdraft in a house fire. The heat radiating from the confined powers started to heat the air around her. Steam began rising around her as the rain on the ground vaporized.
"That's new," Five says as he sees the steam. He watches as her heated grip mutilates the handle of her umbrella, causing her to drop it to the ground as she storms off. The heat of her powers keeping the rain from reaching her skin. She glares at Diego as she passes him.
Klaus nudges the partially melted handle of her umbrella with his foot.
“How does she do that and not just burst into flames?” Five asks. He had seen the Wisp become hot enough to boil water and completely melt solid objects, but not her true form, her human form. He knew he missed more than what Vanya's book had shared, but seeing how much was different still felt strange.
“Because she’s Y/N/N,” Klaus singsongs. “Will o’ the Wisp.”
“I can’t remember the last time she got that mad,” Allison says.
“Only one time I know of,” Vanya says. “When she nearly burned that pavilion down at the park.”
“Oh yeah,” Klaus says.
Allison grimaces slightly at the memory. “I always forget how scary she can be. Like the Wisp is one thing, but she’s-”
“Hot-headed,” Diego states.
"Really, Diego," Luther narrowed his gaze at him.
"What? She is, and she doesn't-"
Five shakes his head. "You just bring out the best in everyone, don't you, Diego."
Diego goes to reply but doesn't get the chance.
"Should someone check on Y/N?" Vanya asks.
When no one volunteers, Five rolls his eyes. "Fine. I'll do it. It amazes me you all survived so long without me."
She startles slightly as Five blinks into her room, but she seems to recover quickly.
"You alright?" He asks.
"Well, nothing is on fire," she states. "So it could be worse." She takes off her coat and throws it on her desk chair. The steam is still rising from it. She rolls her shoulders, and the Wisp appears in the room. Goosebumps form as her superheated skin rapidly cools as the heat of The Wisp leaves her. She rubs her arms.
"So that means the building is fine, doesn't tell me if you are," he counters. Earning him an exhausted sigh from his sister.
"You still think he'll listen to me?" she asks him.
"Diego? Yeah, I mean, they didn't break the statue to spite you. They are just morons that don't know their own strength or stupidity."
"Luther would wish he was back on the moon if they did. Diego too. The one place too far out of my reach."
"Still doesn't answer my question."
"I'm fine now that I'm out of the rain, and we can stretch out," she gestures at the Wisp. "I hate the rain, and I have a headache after everything that has happened today."
"You and me both," Five admits. "Doesn't help that your body just went from hot enough to melt your umbrella to normal temperature in less than a minute. If your body wasn’t so used to your powers, then I'd think you might have boiled your brain. So a headache after using your powers more than you probably have in over a decade isn’t surprising."
"I think I might take a nap," she says as she lays down.
"Probably a good idea," he nods.
"You'll still be here when I wake up, right?" She yawns.
"Don't worry about me,” he says vaguely. “I'll be around."
She leaves her room a bit later to find most of her siblings have gone. Vanya, Diego, Klaus, and even Five had left. None of them bothered to tell her goodbye. However, she didn’t really expect them to after everything that happened. But she was disappointed. Five was gone.
“Hey,” she says when she finds Allison in the main room.
“Feeling better?” Allison asks.
“Well,” she chuckles. “The primary pain in my ass and source of rage headaches, took my secondary source of headaches with him when he left. So yeah, much better.”
“You must love the quiet now then,” Allison states.
“I don’t mind the quiet. It means no one is actively trying to kill each other, or if they are it isn’t my problem,” she admits.
“True, let the city deal with them for once,” Allison agrees, laughing slightly at the somewhat dramatic way her sister drops into a nearby chair. “They’ll fix the statue. I’m sure Pogo won't let it stay like that forever. I’ll make sure Luther fixes it if I have to.”
“Thanks. I don’t doubt that.” She looks over and really studies her sister. “I didn’t really get to talk to you earlier, but I’m sorry about what happened with Claire.”
“Thanks. Hopefully if I can show them I’m not using rumors anymore, that things might go back to normal,” Allison says.
“I hope so too,” she says. “If anyone knows how hard it can be to resist your powers, it’s me.”
“You don’t even get that option,” Allison says. “Can’t imagine how that feels.”
“The harsh fluorescent lights at work drown out a lot of glow. Atleast enough my co-workers can ignore it. I hope. No one has actually complained that I know of. But everyone else, like my neighbors or people at the grocery store, no matter how many times people see me, even without the Wisp, they stare. I’m just uncanny and eerie, lucky me.”
Allison nods. “I’m used to people staring because of my job, not my powers.”
“Oh, my one neighbor thinks she is your biggest fan. She is the only one that stops by to chat and actually treats me like I'm not a freak. She loves your work. And it may not be the limelight, but we survive,” She grins. “On the bright side, I’m never cold, and my heating and electric bills are low.”
"Well, I'm glad I could help you make a friend even when I'm not there." Allison shakes her head and laughs. “The limelight isn’t all that great these days.”
“Still pays the bills, right?”
“Yeah, it does.”
Y/N went up to her room and after being unable to really settle enough to sleep anymore. She digs deep into her powers and summons multiple small flickering orbs of light no bigger than a candle flame. She does something she doesn't often do anymore. She split her mind into six small fragments and sends them out into the world. Each one seeks the areas her siblings often dwell. The barrage to her senses as six sets of images and sensations try to form in her mind all at once is nauseating, and pressure starts to build behind her temples. But the sick feelings are drowned out as she focuses on the lights. She lets two of them fade to nothing when she realizes Luther and Allison are still at the academy, seemingly in their own world of their own issues. She lets another fade as she finds Klaus seemingly talking to himself in Diego’s car. She follows Diego and isn't surprised to find him staring off into nothingness, brooding, she figures. She caught glimpses of Five and Vanya talking at Vanya’s apartment. So she let all but one fade to nothing. Somehow she just knew Diego was going to be the one causing trouble right now. So she focuses her attention on that particular orb, on keeping an eye on Diego.
The rules were simple and had been repeated to you many, many times. The door stays locked. The windows stay closed. You aren’t to be seen by anyone. You can’t even breathe to loud incase someone in hall hears you.
Despite the simplicity of the rules, you don’t-can’t follow them.
They were put in place when Father decided that you were too powerful to keep around the rest of the Academy. The lower Numbers had an important job to do — Save the World — and you and your powers had a more then significant chance at harming them. And despite the disdain that Father had for Number Seven, he didn’t want you around him either.
So you were sentenced to spending your life locked up, chained down, and quite literally forgotten. He had lined the Academy up in front of your door and had Number Three Rumor your existence from their memories, even using one of his inventions to echo the Rumor back to Number Three. When further questioned about the possible existence of a Number Eight, they all expressed confusion to Father.
The gag in your mouth and the heavy iron chains lining your body made it so you couldn’t make a sound to announce your continued presence.
Father had everything planned out though. A new Nanny, not Grace, kept you company at all times. They never talked, only made sure you were getting the correct nutrients and physical activity to keep you growing correctly. Father had made it clear despite his worry over the strength of your powers, he wanted you fit in case he ever needed to deploy you. That meant feeding tubes down your throat and lined into your stomach. It meant a catheter. It meant IVs for liquids. Forced movement of your body.
You couldn’t do anything yourself — another wonderful Rumor from Number Three — but Nanny was there.
Your entire life was scheduled down to the very last minute and there was absolutely nothing you could do about it.
You just…laid there in your lonely room, in your lonely tower.
Waiting for the day you could break free and take revenge.
Father had one thing right — you were strong. Stronger than even he knew. And you had no hesitation in bringing that power against the Academy.
In killing the Academy.
WARNINGS: Slightly hinted Yandere, kidnapping, isolation
I do not take any responsibility for you reading this no matter which age group you are from!
If you don't know me (Hi, how is it going? Nice to meet you) then you might wonder why I post this under the yandere tag even though there isn't much of that in here (yet). This is a sneak peek of a bigger story which definitely has elements of yandere so I want to make sure that people who don't like reading yandere don't accidentally get on my blog. I respect their choice and boundaries.
Malleus Draconia-Over the rose bush (Sneak peek Pt. I)
Tumblr media
You would assume playing an Otome game made you know everything about it was set in, helping its’ people and becoming a hero for them. But who would have thought that there was an entire kingdom ruled by one of the most powerful mages, who was only implied to exist in the game, hiding from the players’ eyes by being mentioned NOT EVEN A SINGLE TIME??! Funny. Interesting. Absolutely maddening. Maddening like the raven that got you into the kingdom in the first place. Yeah, getting over a huge rose bush wasn’t exactly what you would call “easy”.
But who were you to judge? After all, you were only a small individual who was such a huge fan of the game that when you found out who the datable character of Sunset Savanna you almost threw the console out of the window. Huh. This reminded you your friend the raven threw you over an overgrown houseplant surrounding an entire country.
Meeting the young-looking individual whilst hiding in the woods after falling from the sky was something you most certainly had not expected to happen. Heck, you would have rather believed that a pink cloud would fly down on your level and start singing mind-numbing tunes. But you were someone from a world in which swords weren’t exactly “in fashion” in battle so you didn’t expect one of those sharp toothpicks on your throat.
And would you look at that? Apparently, you looked miserable enough that he didn’t just kidna- *ahem* “took you with him” but also took you with him to a cozy cabin in the middle of the woods. After throwing you over a huge fence made out of a rose bush. Did I mention the rose bush before?
Alas, TVs and technology did not exist here so the cabin started to feel… uh… small? Imprisoning? Maybe both? Maybe more than just those two?
This is the point when the smoll rose bush behind your house, not the big one trapping you on an island, became your best friend. No, a brotherhood. The brotherhood of abandoned souls in the middle of the woods. You named them Helga. The narrator of this story says “Hi Helga.”
Something you did not expect though was meeting someone out here (other than Lilia the little annoy-). Deciding to look after Helga you had stepped out of the house only to be met with a breathing wall staring down at Helga. Helga seemed even healthier in his presence. Helga, don’t you dare to turn traitor on the boasitmotw (brotherhood of abandoned souls in the middle of the woods). The stranger had even plucked one of their roses and yet they still bloomed flirtatiously in his direction. You swore to cut your friend a bit shorter after this. IF there was an “after this”.
Turning in your direction the wall casted his gaze upon you and holy shi- (the narrator shakes their head at your choice of words) was that a vibrant green. Helga, you have good taste. You didn’t even notice his horns. Oh don’t get annoyed with me. I am just the narrator. It’s your fault if you get weak at every pretty boy you see.
Standing there like the most foolish statue within any world, yours or this otome one, you continued to stare at him. The man must have taken notice of your mouth that was opening and closing like a fish gasping for air but thankfully he seemed graceful enough not to comment on it. In fact, he seemed surprised to see you as well.
“I was not aware there was another human other than Silver in here.” Silver. Silver… Silver? Who was that? The questions running absolutely amok in your head were soon stopped though, coming to a screeching halt, when he stepped closer to you. God, that wand of his looked like it could impale you… that needle of the spindle looked dangerously sharp.
“Tell me, child of man, how come you are in this place?” How were you supposed to explain that a small man threw you over the bigger cousin of Helga?
Hunter’s relationship with Lilith didn’t devolve naturally, Belos sabotaged it so that Hunter would stop seeing her as a mother figure. Had things gone on any longer with Hunter’s stint at the coven, Belos would’ve easily done the same with any of the Coven Heads Hunter had gotten close to.
Hunter was not allowed to be close to anyone for long, and its why he has abandonment issues.
Hii can I request yandere Mika hcs please?
requested by anonymous
Word Count; 4,200
Okay, so requests for just general headcanons are hard for me because usually there is just so much I could go off of. I tried my best to whittle down this to where it wasn’t overwhelming but still enough to capture the main points of what I wanted. I ended up cutting out some ideas because I couldn’t keep writing; I wanted to edit and finish this. I’m sorry.
Also p.s. I’m a very small account with less than 150 followers. I only get notes occasionally, and I say this because I still regularly have minors interact, and I will instantly be able to see that and block you. I’m 100% aware the bigger accounts grow, the harder it can be for one person to check, but none of you are being sneaky, and I don’t care about likes/reblogs enough to let it slide. Go away. I don’t like you if you are actively a minor trying to save my work. If you can read all 4,000 words of this, you can read where it says don’t interact if under Seventeen. Even while getting ready to post this I had an ageless blog like my last post like no.
Tumblr media
Kagehira Mika; Unedited. Gender Neutral Reader.
CW; this is a clusterfuck. Yandere everything. Stalking, jealousy, unsolicited photography, stealing, manipulation, violence [against Mika, not reader], isolation, potential kidnapping, power imbalances, paranoia, other characters enabling yandere’s actions, and dismissal of feelings. Some moments can be read with lewd intentions, though never explicitly stated. Seriously it just has it all.
This blog is 17+ please have your age in your bio or tagged; any ageless blog and below the age asked for will be blocked at the end of the week.
For a general setup, Mika is. Well, a contradiction in many ways. The best way to put it is just as how others describe him, cat-like. It’s never to say Mika thinks he’s above you, consistently battling himself with the idea of being human over something like a doll, but for someone so ‘below’ you metaphorically, he pulls the strings. In the case of you, his extent of creepy actions, his stalking tendencies, and overall jealousy trap you in the strings of the marionette this time. For someone so below you as he claims, why does he have the power? Why does he not listen to you if he claims you have control over him? Cat-like— pets who rely on humans to bend to their needs and take care of them but still are more of a type to “run a household” rather than wait for the owner to come to them.
A good example is, say, isolation; you explain to him keeping you alone with little interaction outside of him (and maybe minimal time with Shu or Ritsu) isn’t good; it isn’t healthy. Just a little time together in public, you don’t even need to go alone, just need to stretch and feel the bare sun on your skin even for a few moments; he loves you, right? He cares for you, so this would be better for both of you. He’s so weak-willed and eager to please you for a moment you think he’d easily comply, but it doesn’t work. It sends him more into a panicked frenzy, clinging and cuddling, making all sorts of claims that move too fast to rebuttal. It’s dizzying, and in the end, he remains the one truly in power despite his remarks about being only for your needs.
Of course, the main this is despite his contradictions in power, overall, he does genuinely often seek to please you. Make no mistake that despite being the one with the upper hand in terms of your future, you still can easily live a life of semi-normalcy if you play your cards right. And even if things get to the extreme, like fully isolated, Mika will bend fate to bring you nearly anything you would ask for. And if he can’t get it, he’ll try anything he can to make it.
Now to argue, the reasoning behind Mika’s tendencies is pretty apparent. The rooted abandonment issues are a crucial factor, it drives most of his fears and creates logic as to why he feels the need to lock onto people so intensely. He’s a rooted stalker, a mix between being extremely open with it and completely hidden, taking photos constantly without your knowledge, willing to collect all sorts of trash or items he can get his hands on, break-in, and more. There basically isn’t a stone unturned where Mika hasn’t been. Even more part of this comes in despite a fear of talking to strangers; he will threaten them for being ‘too friendly’ and say you two are together even if you aren’t, almost always driving people away from you. This can be found in Mika’s delusional nature of having conversations which he thinks are you giving advice or others telling him, much like how he fantasizes about conversations with Shu when looking for answers to projects. Some of this is attributed to Mika being well aware his emotions are almost always in control.
Regarding you and others interacting, Mika primarily runs on autopilot. He might not even recall what he says to them; it’s a mix of emotion and adrenaline running the show. The final reason for his tendencies is trying to break out of being a doll. He does have feelings, wants, and desires that he should work to fulfill rather than always being just a doll told everything. It’s a lot of weight and pressure, and one of the things that comes with that is the human desire for love. For attention and validation on a deeper scale, something that the human side eventually craves from you. No longer does he just want to be a doll that falls into the corner waiting to be molded; he knows that as a human, these are things that come with it— even if profoundly misplaced. And as away the human side doesn’t take away from his more meek, submissive attitude that came with a doll mentality, at least not entirely, but it is what makes him realize more the nature of his desires.
And as mentioned, Mika is… well, gross. Not in a literal sense, okay, maybe slightly literally in the thoughts and extreme hoarding of items he might be willing to take, but it’s more than that. Mika pushes the acceptable bounties; he has little and runs purely on emotions and whims— they control him. His actions are horrendously creepy at times, and his delusions push him to do things that just come off as disturbing. The tragic downside is ES isn’t an ordinary place with ordinary people. The majority of those around him come off more as enablers or too busy to care in the hustle of idol life. Examples being are Shu, Ritsu, and Arashi, all being helpless enablers to Mika and doing little to genuinely help you if it means Mika’s happiness. Cosmic Productions doesn’t care; as long as Valkyrie brings in revenue, then you’re just collateral damage and other companies at ES have little awareness of the reality going in the department. Not to mention I don’t think Crazy:B or Eden has the best members to speak on the subject, with 2wink being the most reasonable you could go to, but often they have enough going on it’s hard to seek solace in them.
And the last main general note is that while things would never be easy and life would always have some level of undertones of there being something wrong seeping from under the surface, Mika is one where you could get away with not being kidnapped and isolated. This doesn’t remove any general problems or underlying creepiness, it might even make it worse, but the idea of available yet moderated freedom might be better than nothing. Nearly all of your attention still needs to go to Mika, and if you would be to play the role of a partner to him, having the chance to still semi-function outside of being locked in some rooms might be a better alternative. This does stems from the fact Mika is willing to bend for you, as long as you comply with parts of his affection even for show. It also doesn’t dilute any aspects like stalking or stealing. But unless there is only full-out rejection of everything, would Mika likely turn to Shu or Ritsu for advice which would supply kidnapping as an alternative route (those little shits). It’s not easy for Mika to transport you to the dorm or Shu’s apartment to keep you locked up, and as mentioned, once isolated, getting Mika to let up and let you leave is nearly nonexistent even if you begin to return his advances (both for show or genuine). Overall, this is to say kidnapping is never a guaranteed ending with Mika, unlike with many others but not ever out of the question either. It can come very suddenly and always a looming presence if you aren’t willing to give into Mika’s fantasies.
Okay, so that is the central portion. Now some more miscellaneous items.
For one, Mika genuinely doesn’t mind if you use violence against him. Not saying he wants it necessarily; it’s not some masochistic desire to be hit, kicked, and generally beaten by you. But it doesn’t serve as a functional way to get him to stop or go away. He is essentially any attention is still attention. You’re mistaken if you think that while he is crying, clawing at your legs and hips for attention, a quick slap or kick to get him to let go will work. It might somehow many him latch on harder, claiming that it’s okay, you can do it again, it helps you calm down, just let him stay. Keep giving him the attention, the validation. And even worse this behavior is something Mika is willing to do in public if pushed or called out enough. Any terms of thinking you’re abandoning or leaving him creates an overdrive in him, quickly transforming into someone willing to beg to keep you around. In public, it’s made worse because not only does he look like the one being hurt by you— he’s an idol. Well-known one too, and if something terrible happens to him, it will only come back and hurt you. Either through die-hard fans or the company scolding you. Violence not only spurs Mika more but damages your livelihood in the bigger picture, making it null any tactic to help with the burden of Mika’s tendencies.
However, this extends to one important thing. Your actions don’t really hurt Mika? Even on a physical level. It’s well noted Mika has an extremely high pain tolerance and that it would take a lot for him to acknowledge something hurting him in a way that would temporarily take him out. He doesn’t mind being physically hurt not only because it has some power dynamics and he’s doing anything to please you, but even in the case there is that contraction of him still having the upper hand. He gives you the permission to hit or kick him, likely because he has an awareness of being able to take it without it limiting his hold on you and still giving that outlet to you. Even if these are subconscious choices, it’s unsettling how much control he still has between his physicality benefits, idol career, and connections. Mika truly is a powerhouse in this way, and violence to him practically cannot solve anything as a means of escape, even if he offers it as stress relief or punishment to himself.
Another big thing for Mika is forgetting the past and focusing on the future. There was before you, and then there is now. Anything before does not matter, and in a sense, he sort of expects this from you as well. Ex-partners, ex-crushes, ex-situation-ships; none of those matter now that he is here, and you better feel the same of these things being ‘dead.’ Photos or any other sentimental item need to be wiped away, and your mind shouldn’t need to wander back to them because you have something more now and forever. This idea of focusing on the future/now also relates to how many delusions and ideas for how things will work out between you in the long term. Marriage, starting a family, domestic life as a whole— Mika spends much of his time picturing and creating pieces that inspire him of this future as well as daydreaming of what life could become no longer attached to his past.
Some more quick round-head canons; Mika will fill up notebooks and writing your name and his name. Pretty much any cross-over you can think of. Just your name with hearts, your name and his name with hearts, your first name and his last name, his first name and your last name, a teased ship name given from Arashi— the list can go on. It’s scribbled messily, and other times written with such extreme care. It’s only loose papers and trash, on his sketch designs and doodled with his finger on tables. Not only does he do it as a practice of his handwriting and the love of seeing your name written with that, but the combinations he can make feel like a validation of the closeness he has. Much like any early crush, it’s some comfort level of daydreaming— regardless of the actual proximity you have with one another. Also yes, he will lose loose pages and if you don’t know what he’s doing it’s very creepy the first few times. Or hundred. The amount of times he writes your names together is beyond comfort; very heavily boarding on obsessive.
Mika is also not great at conversations, with mostly everyone but the awkwardness is pushed even more with you. There is too much pressure, and his feelings run in such high control that it often comes out as a mix of self-deprecating, worshipping you, and trying to act like a normal mess. It’s almost always awkward even if you try to ease him and are kind, and it does kinda become worse the longer it goes on because this is when his stalking, photography, and niche personal things become apparent in conversations. If you didn’t think he was stalking you beforehand or at least didn’t catch him, you’d be given many hints the more he talks to you. This extends from the fact he does everything possible to get materials and content he knows interests you. Even if you think it’s something knows one would know you like, Mika does somehow and will in passing bring it up in the weirdest form of trying to have a casual conversation. Books, CDs, and TV shows and stuff are all a part of his hoarding connection about you simply because you like it.  Even if it never would be something he’d look up on his own, he’d do anything to connect and relate even more to you. There never is any proof you can’t call him out other than having suspicions which, once again, little to anyone would take seriously, but you can’t help but feel Mika knows more than he is truly letting on.
Will do any and everything for you if he can; carrying items, buying you things, cleaning stuff— of course, be careful asking him for this because he might take advantage of you letting him get this close to such personal tasks— but there never is anything he doesn’t offer to do. Idol work might get in the way, though, he can’t neglect his job, but any other time he is on your heels, waiting to do anything he can for you. And sure, at first, it’s nice. It lifts some burdens or comes off as Mika being Mika offering to give more than needed to anyone. But buying you things often comes off with a strange energy radiating off of them, even if there is seemingly nothing wrong. Him cleaning or doing simple domestic tasks, such as laundry, ends up with some things being missing or damaged. You notice so many other weird things in your apartment if he offers to clean. And carrying items,  while seemly harmless, still just makes your stomach churn. He fully just shows up out of nowhere on the most random shopping tasks offering his help and pushing closer and closer to you. What once was Mika feeling like his strange but overall kind, sweet nature stepping up to help an overworked staff member turns exhausting, skin-crawling offer. Even if he usually looks all sweet and innocent offering. Damn, the fact he does have some cuteness charm regardless of his actions.
Arashi coming in clutch again being an enabler to Mika!! Upon teaching Mika about selfies and the momentum of photos… Mika gets a little too on board with this. He takes photos whenever he can, both blurry and crisp, highly focused or landscape of you, anywhere and everywhere. There are so many pictures he has and collects, often finding it hard to delete any one of them because there is something special attached to each one. Selfies and other photos he can get with you, either to your knowledge or without it are probably the most important to his collections. The second ones are those that either are from dates or situations that Mika dates. He is willing to print them off and keep them all over, even having dedicated spaces and boxes of printed photos or simply made posters. There would probably be some specific photo he becomes horrendously attached to as well, much like having one of Shu he constantly uses to talk to or seek advice from.
The reason to account for the photos is because, as I’ve touched on, Mika is a filthy hoarder. He will legitimately take whatever he can get his hands on if he thinks it has some value to you. While I think depending on the item, particular trash isn’t seen as valuable or limited value others have much more. For example, plastic utensils aren’t valued at much; you used it once and then got rid of them, which has very little value to you. But say a silverware from your kitchen, chopsticks/spoon/whatever you use daily, has that value level and is worth wanting to keep for his own use. If you wear makeup, an empty lipstick/chapstick tube will be more sentimental or valued than a used tissue. This can also be found in the fact he’s mainly sharing spaces. While he still is a hoarder and does his best to keep his collection out of the main sight or in a place that isn’t easily accessed, there is always a chance someone could come to clean out those spaces. Something like a tissue is more likely to get loaded and thrown away, while Mika could better justify a chapstick holder as being able to be kept. This doesn’t change the fact that he is able and willing to collect a lot of gross things, such as well willing to have a container of bath water of yours if he could easily get it or an old notebook you might forget about. Even if it’s just work notes, he’d take it. And Mika might sometimes try to get rid of parts of his collection until he can secure a long-term and connected relationship with you, such as living together; it’s hard for him to part with anything of yours. These items are fucking everywhere too. His dorm, Shu’s apartment, the sewing station, and his area at CosPro. You might even see things you thought you lost just lying around and be able to “steal” them back with how prolific his hoarding is scattered.
Clothing is the one thing; sadly, you will probably never get back, or at least if you could not in its original form. Mika loves, even obsessively, uses scraps and parts of your clothing in his. Even in the costumes for Valkyrie if he can, so there is a piece of you on stage with him. His use for upcycling extends back to his past, needing to take clothes and items from the trash to even have things of his own to wear, but now it feels much more special. This is rewriting all of the stigma and pain he carried of having nothing more than trash clothes— discarded by people just as he was. Sure, this clothes was stolen and didn’t have your permission to use, but it has the comfort woven into its threads. It smells like you and has the texture from how you cared for it when you washed it. It has the stains and memories of you, the feeling of someone being so loved by you it’s clearly ready to be thrown out finally, so it’s perfect if he repurposes it. He never takes too much, and if you have a clear favorite item Mika knows not to take it; maybe steal it from the wash pile and use it as a pillow cover for a bit, but always have it returned as well. At that time he’d fantasy the domestic life of being together, where he could openly wear his upcycled material of your clothes patched together [and you can wear them too!]. Or where he can take your clothes and wear them without shame or worry of getting them back on time, and the comments you’d make seeing him in your stuff. All of the fantasies turn him bright red, and even the next day, when you greet him, he looks a little more flushed than usual around you.
However yes, many things go missing, but they are often just as much replaced. Simple things are replaced with Mika spending his own money and then finding ways to either customize or make it so the item is uniquely tied to the two of you. Certain things also have trackers in them, but most are just decorative in some way. You remember how you lost your favorite pair of chopsticks when you brought your own lunch that one day. Weirdly enough the next day a new pair ended up in your bag but one bejeweled on the handle to match a particular sewer’s aesthetic while the other matched yours. Or hair clips that you once got as decorative jokes for a photo you and your friends had been planning; you figured you just misplaced them but these new ones you found are nothing like the previous ones aesthetic… If you look too long in a shop at clothing or accessories Mika might not always be able to buy them due to expenses buts he’s well quick to make them, even with the added benefit of it being tailored now specifically to how you prefer. They always end up at your desk so neatly packaged, many coworkers assume it’s perhaps brands trying to get cozy with you for future deals with idol groups but these aren’t the same as what you saw in the window. No, these are too perfect for you to be just any run-of-the-mill store item. The even more unsettling part is how this person managed to get your measurements so spot on if not for measuring you in your sleep.
There is also one specific way Mika would get caught for the more,, creepy actions. You’d know he could be a bit of a stalker. He has his moments where it’s oblivious he’s following you or others but those always come off more like a kicked puppy trying to follow someone home rather than malicious. Like he wants to interact, but internal conflict holds him back so much he forgets where he is until he is slightly too far behind and stumbles to keep up. If he really wants to stalk, Mika can keep himself hidden. There are other times all his other more ‘bizarre’ actions are qualified as Mika being Mika, like being fatigued after bouts of practice and finding his way to your desk out of habit in hopes to see you rather than going and getting medical attention/rest, or coming to hover around your desk for inspiration like a cat. If you aren’t there, usually you see cheap candies on your desk as a reminder he was there and is probably off looking for you or went back to the workstation much more disappointed than before. For the most part conversation with Mika, you might not lead to believe anything is deeply wrong with his infatuation levels. He’s always spoken weirdly with his doll-like commentary and the idea of letting others “control” him such as Shu and you. Or that his comments tend to come from a lack of understanding rather than outright trying to harm, so you do your best to guide him in topics. You’ve always known his emotional state can be complex, and his childhood likely made it hard to process feelings, resulting him them dominating his sense of self and backfiring into making them more unsettling than maybe he intended [of course while Mika’s perception of the events being vastly different]. All of these would change when you awake in the middle of the night hearing stumbling in your apartment. The first few times you hear a thump or grunt, you believe it’s just your sleepy brain making up stuff. It’s unsettling, and you always can feel your heart rate spike, but you don’t have anything to assume there is something wrong. But it often continues and you’re getting worried. Everything comes rushing into a close of an era when you manage to shake yourself awake one night, hearing a whine from the floor by your bed only to see a mass of dark hair and clothes. None other than Mika, watching you in your sleep— or well trying.
See while Mika would love to use the nighttime to stalk around your apartment and get things done… his case of night blindness makes it much harder. Walking into walls or furniture, tripping over a bag that wasn’t always there, or simply leaning in too close that he bonked his head into your trying to look at your face before diving under your bed as to tousle around. It never really hurts, but he does let out a startled noise, or the falling is enough to cause a loud sound. But now, you’ve caught him in the act. And many questions are bound to follow in the morning, ones neither of you can escape from. Finding out Mika’s habits won’t change the outcome for him too much; what will is how you choose to follow but it doesn’t matter. He’ll find a way to be around in your life more no matter how you respond.
When she first awoke, the only things that greeted her were darkness and sore bones. She groaned weakly as she attempted to rise, but she immediately felt something holding her back. When she turned, she found her hands were cuffed to heavy black chains trailing endlessly behind her. Grogginess very quickly turned to panic, and Luni began to break into a cold sweat.
"Uh, hello?" she questioned the darkness. She was obviously anxious about the situation, but she knew better than to show her fear. That was probably what the sick bastard who took her wanted. "Wh-what the fuck is this? Where am I?!"
"Oh, you've finally awoken," an unseen presence coldly noted. Luni immediately jolted. She...she knew that voice. Its breathy femininity was instantly recognizable. Yet, the voice lacked the warmth and joy it almost always carried. "I hope you rested well, darling," Luni's all too familiar captor finished, a hiss of hatred ending off her words.
The impenetrable, black mist suddenly parted, revealing her prison to be a barren, endless desert. Just above her head, bathed in lavender moonlight, a winged succubus silently drifted down to confront her prey. From far away, the demon seemed like a perfectly sculpted, ethereal woman any man- or woman- would kill to have. When one got a closer look however, it was very evident something was wrong. A dark, tar-like substance hugged against the surface of her hands, feet, and horns. Dark purple veins crawled up her pale skin, and the white sclera of her eyes were now black as night.
Sure enough, just as Luni feared, it was her dearly beloved creation, Lilith. The blue-haired woman was unsure what terrified her more. The fact that something had corrupted her perfect design, or that the affliction pushed her to capture her own creator. For many minutes, Lilith said nothing. She only stared at Luni with unwavering malice.
"Well?" the demon abruptly interrogated. "Anything to say for yourself?" Luni only continued to stare in appalled horror before processing what was said to her.
"Lilith...what...what the hell happened to you?!" she suddenly cried out. "I-I don't understand! The hero, they, they got rid of the corruption!!"
Lilith only sneered in disgust. "As if you ever cared what happened to me," she harshly growled. The callousness of her once kind and loving companion made Luni's stomach drop. Her evident fear only made the corrupted demon shake her head before turning away.
There was another tense pause before either party spoke again. "Do you know how long a couple years can feel when you're all alone?" Lilith asked her captive mournfully.
Luni was admittedly confused by the question, but then, it hit her. She had not touched Gacha World in years. Even when she discovered the game she created was home to varied and sentient beings, she still let it fall into neglect for literal years. It was not intentional, of course. Life had become so hectic for Luni as she approached her finals. She began to focus on planning out her career and studying rather than working on her game. Oh, how foolish that proved to be.
Lilith glanced back to her master. She once again said nothing, but it was clear she understood Luni finally caught on. She simply looked to the ground before continuing. "Being the only one truly aware that none of this was real, it made it impossible for me to talk to the others," she continued. "So, I waited for you to come back. The only person I could have a real, genuine conversation with. Before, I only had to wait a week, tops to see you. Then that turned into a couple weeks. Then a month. Then..." Lilith quietly trailed off. The calculating malice in her eyes melted into sickening sorrow.
In this moment of vulnerability, Luni immediately felt her heart fill with guilt. Yes, her creation did forcefully spirit her away, but it was obviously in a dark moment of desperation. She could not hold that against her beloved. "Lilith, I...I'm so sorry," the developer began. "I didn't mean to ditch you guys, I just suddenly had so much on my plate and-"
"No." Before Luni could explain herself, the succubus suddenly interrupted her. Her violet eyes suddenly locked onto her creator's blue eyes. That haunting look of hatred immediately came back. "You don't get to apologize, not this time," she spat. "You knew, you knew we were alive. You knew we had feelings, thoughts, you knew we could feel love! And yet, you made the exact same mistake again."
Lilith immediately stomped towards Luni, which made her master attempt to back away. For the first time in many years, the developer felt an undeniable sense of fear. "Lilith, please, please don't kill me," she begged. "You-you're right! I fucked up! It was shitty of me to let this happen. But I promise, I can change. I won't ever abandon you or the game, never again."
"Oh, don't worry, love," Lilith assured her. An eager, wide smile suddenly crept on her lips. "I know you won't. I'll make sure of it."
Before Luni could respond, the chains around her hands suddenly turned into a thick, vicious liquid that wrapped itself around her body. She let out panicked screams as she attempted to conjure something, anything to fight back. She immediately felt crippling waves of pain creep up her encased arms, causing her to collapse to her knees in despair.
Lilith slowly walked into the ooze surrounding her darling master. The darkness already encasing her body slowly began to expand. She paid it little mind though, her attention was exclusively on Luni.
The developer looked up to her corrupted former assistant. Tears fell down her cheeks as the whites of her eyes were also consumed by corruption. "Pl...please," she weakly begged. "Make it stop...it....it hurts.."
"I know, I know," Lilith empathetically cooed as she lowered to her eye level. She used one of her clawed fingers to lift up her despair-stricken lover's chin. "It will only be a moment now. Then, neither of us will ever be alone again." She then smiled, not in the sadistic fashion like moments go. Rather, it had a genuine, familiar sense of warmth to it. She then pulled Luni in for a kiss, one hand on her back and the other behind her head. Luni could only weep as the darkness fully consumed them both.
-----
In the twilight desert of corruption and misery, a great beast was born. It was tall, taller than any man, woman, or creature in this virtual world. From behind, its divinely feminine and supple form would draw in many an eager viewer. The same could not be said for the frontal view.
It possessed six torn wings, four horns, and a grin full of sharp, predatory teeth. Two sets of eyes rested upon its face. Two of bright magenta color, the ones on the top, examined the world with a newfound sense of wonder. The lower set of cyan eyes pensively looked down at its body, as if horrified by what it became.
"And now my pet," the demon gleefully began as it ascended to the sky. "We will rule this world together, as Lunith."
