VENT CW!! STAY SAFE!!
anyone else find it exhausting to just enjoy things?
I don’t want to support people or companies that are actively doing things that are bad (racism, homophobia, defending SA, etc etc). but it’s so mentally draining to look through all of this terrible shit and not be able to enjoy things bc of their creators or ppl associated with it
i mean, i don’t support dream. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again. I don’t support dream or the dteam as a whole - but the dsmp was such a big comfort to me through quarantine, and even now i still love the storyline and the characters.
HP, well that’s self explanatory. JKR is just a shit person and i’m not gonna give her my money bc i enjoy the plot of HP. I just take fanon on its own for the most part. I own the books and the films already (my family loves HP and has for a long time, since before JKR was outed as a transphobe) so i don’t need to buy anything from her. HP was a huge part of my childhood and the thought of not interacting with any content related to it makes me so sad, because i still love it even now.
and as controversial as it may be, i’ve enjoyed hazbin and helluva boss for years now. it was another comfort during quarantine, and i watched it with friends and got to bond over it. i do not like vivziepop or support her, and it’s exhausting to see all this back and forth about her online bc it’s so confusing. I love these shows and it makes me so happy that I get to see hazbin come together after waiting so long, and the same goes for helluva boss. of course there can be improvements to the way vivziepop writes some characters, but i still love these shows so much. it hurts my heart to feel like i can’t enjoy the content because the creator is such a bad person.
and then the number of musicians i’ve had to stop listening to because they turned out to be shitty people. or actors i avoided watching content of because they’re bad people (especially when the list of ppl who support Israel came out- of course im not supporting anyone on there, but some of the ppl on there just rlly hurt my heart because ive enjoyed their content for so long)
i know there’s not really any way to avoid this, as people are complex and can be an asshole w/o you knowing. funding people like this isn’t something i want or care to do, so of course i actively avoid it. but I just don’t know what to do when it comes to this.
a friend told me that it’s sort’ve about picking and choosing things, because you never know what people are really like. they said that with the state of the world, it’s important to stay educated but don’t let shitty people get in the way of things you enjoy. i’m just at the point where i feel like i can’t enjoy anything because anytime i get stuck in a rabbit hole of content, i see people going back and forth about who should be cancelled and who actually isn’t a bad person. cancel culture is one of the worst things about the internet, and it just makes interacting with fandoms even more toxic than it already is.
ig this is just a rant talking about comforts i have that i feel like i can’t enjoy anymore because of cancel culture and just like..people being people? i’m just so tired of finding something i enjoy and then learning out that they are or possibly could be doing/supporting something bad and just— it makes me feel so guilty because i don’t want to indirectly/directly hurt anyone. i know what i believe in and what i do and don’t support, at least for the most part (still learning everyday atp), but it doesn’t make it any easier to part with things i hold so dearly in my heart.
does anyone else feel similarly? if so, what have you found that helps or at least is a comfortable middle ground?
idk bro, my life is so exhausting with everything i deal with in real life- so to feel like i can’t even find comfort in my silly little shows anymore is really depressing. my mental health is not doing well lmfaooo

Fear and Hunger is such an awesome game that only hardcore channels cover because most famous players cater either to children, more sensitive folks or to the pussy 'omigosh how DARE a game depict realistic brutality and sexual violence even though it DOESN'T glorify it in the least' crowd. Yes, some people are legit uncomfy with that stuff and that's totally fine (even though I personally will NOT be discussing media with those types. Too easy to spook them), but the nutjob crowd on social media would've thrown a hissy fit over this game. What a shame.
Also, it's honestly pathetic how some people say the game 'trivialises' or is 'problematic' in its depiction of frequent sexual violence / nudity. As someone who lives in a country where rape horror stories are well - known (India), I'll provide an explanation to y'all. The dungeons and historical war setting are the core of this story. Historically and even nowadays, prisons are chock - full of depravity. Warfare and famine enable the shittiest among us to dominate the social order. When it's universally accepted that awful people in positions of power WILL murder, torture, pillage in such situations - how come sexual assault is out of the question for such an uncaring mind ? Face reality, both 'normal' and less - triggering - for - sheltered - USAmericans forms of violence, AND sexual violence have been and ARE distressingly common in the settings this game depicts. It's not problematic, it's just the truth. The devs, streamers, any content ratings website gives you ample warning about these elemnts. If you can't handle it that's a YOU thing. This story is for those people who CAN handle it.
Also the violence and gore are perfectly historically accurate too. You get a hopelessly infected limb, even nowadays ? It gets amputated. You don't have a safe medical facility around to assist ? It gets amputated painfully without anaesthesia. People used to easily die of what today are laughably small wounds, because they got infected. Germ theory didn't exist. Starvation was widespread. Betraying your fellows to terrible fates to save yourself is a timeless viable strategy - we privileged asses can't complain about it cuz we've never had to face those terrors. It is in fact ABNORMAL to not resort to cannibalism or deceit to survive in terrible conditions with no way out. You'd have to be suicidal, too good for this world, a rabid religious fanatic or psychopathic to not do so. I am none of those, and nor are 99.99 % of you.

The problem with cancel culture
It doesn't allow us to be human.
You see, part of being human is making mistakes and learning from them. But cancel culture has created this atmosphere where you can't mess up ever.
This is partly due to the fact that people's mistakes are immortalized on the internet. If you mess up in real life, you can just apologize and move on. But on the internet, that fuck up stays. Even if you delete it, someone can have a screenshot.
This will end up coming back to bite you in usually two ways. 1. You piss someone off. Not only has the internet immortalized mistakes, but it has also brought beef into the eyes of the public. Now if you piss someone off online they can just easily dig up your old skeletons and post them for the world to see. And the more popular you become, the more likely this will happen, which brings me to the second way.
Cancel culture directly impacts influencers the most. There's always drama. Even the people who get famous reporting on drama have drama. (An endless loop.) Sometimes it's bullshit, sometimes it's serious. The accusations always vary in severity, but are often treated the same. People love to just label them as a bad person rather than think about whether or not they fit the criteria to be forgiven. We have become judge, jury, and executioner and we are horrible at it. It isn't fair, and deep down we know it, but we do not like to think of ourselves as unjust. I am reminded of a short story about a gallow erected in a town. One by one, each town person was hanged, until the narrator was the only one left to be hung. No one spoke up and tried to reason, and thus no one was spared.
Now, you may be wondering, what is the criteria for being forgiven? Here's what I think. 1. Did they apologize? 2. Was it a long time ago? 3. Was it done out of dumbassery or bigotry? 4. Was it a crime?
Depending on the answers, that's how you know whether or not someone can be forgiven. And of course, it all depends on opinion.
Notice how I didn't include age? That's because, huge take here, it doesn't really matter. Sure, minors have more of an excuse for fucking up, but just because someone is an adult doesn't mean they no longer can make mistakes and learn from them. As I said before, that's just part of being human. Maturity does not mean you know everything. I have seen grown adults make innocent mistakes. This age limit thing is getting tiring.
And even if they can't be forgiven, we shouldn't shame people who still enjoy their content. Separate the art from the artist. People can like things while still acknowledging problems. And they shouldn't need to verbally announce that everytime they talk about it. We need to stop telling fans "ohh that creator is problematic-" Because guess what?? Maybe they already know that. Or maybe they don't want to know. Unless it reflects in their work, drop it! Let people enjoy things in peace!
Stop making people feel like they need to defend the mistakes the creator of the thing they like made.
Maybe in general we need to stop putting influencers on a pedestal. Revolutionary, I know. But seriously. We need to stop acting like we know them. You can be upset if you want, but at some point enough is enough. Calm down.

So in Danny Gonzalez's video about the Hype House show he shares a clip where one of them says "once you're cancelled, that's all you're known for" and of course, Danny points out the fact that they are on their own fucking show so clearly that's not true but also,,,,
First, they're all like 19 and TikTok had only been out for like 5 years at the time. You absolutely cannot declare that people will only ever know you for being cancelled when you've had at most 5 years and a tiny chunk of your entire life to have been famous and cancelled at all
And, the second thing, which I keep saying, is that unless a celebrity committed a literal crime, their career is gonna be fine. Kevin Spacey and Bill Cosby are both probably never gonna work again, but that's because they committed crimes, but other people are gonna be fucking fine.
Dave Chappelle is still doing shows, Gina Carano could easily just go back to wrestling, JK Rowling is still selling merch every day and is making a new show, Jake Paul is still huge on YouTube, Jeffree Star is still selling makeup, Shane Dawson still has a successful channel. None of these people have actually faced any real damage for their actions.
If you want examples of this in the long run, lemme ask you, what is the first thing your mind goes to when you hear "Michael Richards" or see a picture of him? You probably just think about Kramer from Seinfeld, not Michael Richards screaming the N-word at black audience members during a stand-up show. When you think of Judy Garland, you probably think about The Wizard of Oz, not that picture of her wearing minstrel show blackface.
So, no, whoever the fuck in the Hype House said that, that is not all you're ever going to be known for. That did not destroy your career as Danny Gonzalez pointed out. I don't even know what anyone in the Hype House ever did to get cancelled (Although, I don't know anyone in the Hype House).
People act like celebrities getting "cancelled" (a.k.a. facing consequences for their shitty actions) is cruel and ruining people's lives. Give it ten fucking minutes and no one will care. How many people who said that they hate and can't support JK Rowling are planning on watching the new show? How many people still listen to Chris Brown knowing how abusive he is?
And I'm not totally innocent of this either because I still watch Seinfeld and shit.
I don't care if you consume media from someone after they've been revealed to be a piece of shit, as long and you're aware of the harm their actions have caused and you don't try to defend them or anything, but if someone gets cancelled and you're in the corner crying over the poor millionaires and prime ministers getting in trouble for wearing blackface and beating women, then please actually try to fucking think for once and realize that history has shown time and time again that these people don't actually face consequences. They gave pretend consequences, maybe losing followers or getting dropped from a couple projects until their PR team sweeps it under the rug and everyone who was pissing themselves because a celebrity got in minor trouble for horrible actions will forget about it.
In conclusion: shut the fuck up about cancel culture

On one hand I agree with the notion that "everything and everyone is problematic to some degree" because that sort of ideological purity cannot exist. On the other hand there's a difference between an author who makes a few ignorant comments about gay people on twitter vs a director who consistently makes films purposefully depicting black people as savages and has family ties to the KKK. And treating both of those people as equally problematic is not the answer.

personally I think it's an improvement that we've evolved enough to care about the morals and personal views of the celebrities. I'd take people asking genuinely if so & so is problematic or has done anything questionable over people not caring at all. Indifference isn't a good when it comes to these influential people, especially because their views will be broadcast to a much larger audience regardless. It's a good thing to question the intentions of the richer celebrity folk in our world and to not trust in them blindly.

i understand why swifties are mad at taylor for dating matty i've seen so much misunderstanding and people straight up making shit up without looking at the context. for example, people say matty supports kanye and trump because he sings "thank you kanye, very cool" in one of his songs but he's literally making fun of them, it's so easy to do a little bit of research instead of believing what 13 year old girls are saying. i used to be a fan of both taylor and the 1975, but now i don't wanna be associated with any of them, i'm so over all this celebrity drama and cancel culture, i just hope people don't believe everything that's being said online and do some proper research themselves
yeah i agree,,,, idc anymore the more i research him the more i don't want to deal with taylor. obviously don't just take things at face value/rely on tumblr posts to summarise articles, but there's enough bad shit about him that i think we can agree he sucks and so does taylor for unashamedly associating with him

no bc it’s actually concerning the way grown ass adults cling onto an extremely problematic story (and by that i mean harmful to minorities) written by a horrible human being and claim that they’re not doing any harm. even if you don’t put money directly into jkr’s hands, by supporting her awful writing, you are encouraging others to do so, and you are encouraging a culture that dismisses and forgives oppressors that can only be forgiven by those they oppress and no one else. jkr will only suffer once h*rry p*tter is once and for all dead. that means stop supporting it altogether, because all the fanarts, all the fanfics, all the third party merch, etc. STILL contribute to her fame and success, and she will continue to harm minorities. this isn’t comparable to long dead problematic authors with problematic books because the difference is they’re dead and can’t make money off of their works anymore and jkr is still very much alive and very, very wealthy because people continue to dismiss the harmful things she has done and continues to do.
but yeah, I guess it’s worth it if you don’t have to give up a piece of your childhood. I guess the continued support of a very influential, very wealthy public figure who can do a lot of harm at the expense of minorities is worth being able to put “hufflepuff” in your bio.

Hi. Sorry if bother you.
Sepereting art from the artist is a statement that is something.
Like if Random Rogers cut tais, and hated Onison, and apologised for the offensiv stuff, and learn something then that would be good. Will it happan? Probably not.
If Viv learnd and left her antifeminim, tranphobia, and recisum behind, and actually traid to better herself, and not just make a questionable "apologi" (I don't know if she made one yet), and learnd, then I somewhat would see the statement aplaying to her for some. Will she ever change? Defenetly not. She is Vivziepop.
And then there is Onision, Shademen, Blair White, Shou0nhead, Shane Awfull, and Shademen, who should defenetly be thrown away, and get consecvences for they actions (Shademen is not in prison if I know well, Onision is still free and even published a kids's book, Blair White, Shou0nhead, and Shane Awfull still have a platform.)
If Brandon Rogers decided to grow and apologise for the things he said, and gown (and matured) then he would be better then Vivziepop if he actually learnd.
I'm talking as someone who was an anti feminist, then become a more radical feminist, who dismissed make victoms of rape. I'm just ashamed of it. And I know from a fect that Viv is defenetly nit ashamed for anything. Sorry if botherd you.
Glad that you feel guilt for what you did.
Unfortunately cancel culture doesn’t actually hold people accountable. Which is why people like Onision still run rampant and have big platforms. It’s rather unfortunate that people treat accountability like “one person” trends rather than focusing on the actions themselves or nearly as many people who do it as they should have. Harassment solves nothing, but neither does stan or cancel culture.
There needs to be a genuine change in how we see accountability. We can’t just go “It was wrong for ___ to do it but ___ doing it is fine just because I like them!” like drama channels and internet stans keep doing.
There needs to be full accountability, for all involved in any wrongdoing of any kind.

Cancel Culture sucks...
It's honestly disgusting how far someone will go to frame someone as a bad person or even a predator, not to mention ableist if the falsely accused happens to have a disability of some kind. I'm sorry for yet another vent but cancel culture has gone TOO FAR. Making serious allegations of a crime occurring using falsified evidence is an INSULT to real victims of crimes, and these false accusers should be ashamed of themselves.

Total Drama Danganronpa Island Chapter 4 Deadly Life Spoilers:
Tw: I talk about suicide and cancel culture in the story
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I myself have never experienced having suicidal thoughts. The only time I can recall where I came close was getting braces. Yeah. So you can imagine the research I had to do, especially since in this very fic, I’ve been pretty dismissive of mental illnesses and disorders. That I apologize for and hope I can do better.
This was something I felt more than anything, I CANNOT dismiss this, nor can I sugarcoat it. I have to be as respectful to it as possible, and actively discourage the idea. Never know if there’s a crippled person out there that sees your work and takes it to heart. (That’s a nightmare for me. To have something I made be responsible for someone’s death)
I have a romantic partner with chronic illnesses for almost ten years now, and still no cure. Multiple times, they’ve shared to me their suicidal thoughts, thoughts that made me scared of losing them. They’re still alive, and they say over and over again it’s because of me.
I’m someone who has a hard time talking coherently. That’s why my social media presence is mostly text. So Bridgette’s speech here, I personally see it as me talking to the people struggling to find something to live for and never give up even where there’s literally no hope left. There’s always something, even when you don’t see it at the moment. Someone to love, someone who loves you, a book you like, a show you like, nice walks, whatever. There’s something. You can’t experience those good things if you’re dead.
There’s also some cancel culture commentary here. Everyone’s a part of it whether we consciously know it or not. It’s really sad.
I cant count how many times Ive said something whether in real life or online and I become self-conscious whenever someone has a certain response. One wrong word and a whole group of people can hate you. That’s all it takes.
In the realm of fame, either you’re a role model or you’re a disgrace. Nothing in between.
Total Drama isn’t any different from this subject matter with Gwen in particular. Something I feel a lot if people overlook.
There are some cases where it’s lies and the person is innocent, you may find a few examples of such, and that's just heartbreaking.
But what happens when you ACTUALLY screw up? Make a mistake? Make a fool out of yourself? Like humans do? (I.e, Gwen) Cancel Culture tells you you’re therefore an awful person with no redeeming qualities, and that one mistake suddenly becomes your whole life. It’s heartbreaking especially when the cancelled person WANTS to own up and be better, but the people just don’t have it.
Then there's the other side of cancel culture, which many famous people, such as Chris, use to defend TRULY terrible people and say the world is in the wrong.
Either way, Gwen was treated like dirt and sent to suffer for an old mistake, for so long until she lost hope altogether and bailed on fighting. The others could've helped her, but only Duncan took the time to consider helping, and he tried to commit suicide... so what other influence was there for Gwen in a world where she really needed a friend?
Does this mean the other campers are entirely to blame? No. But there is a lesson for them to learn here about empathy and redemption as a concept. Them hating her is understandable if you the audience want to see it as understandable reasons to hate Gwen, but did they go about it the right way? No.
Gwen Ellis is nothing short of a tragedy and a cautionary tale of a minor being a victim of cancel culture.
And the surviving campers want to make sure that her fate never happens to anybody else ever again.
And in case you’re wondering why Bridgette is the one who gave the eulogy, when Duncan and Courtney were right there, 1) Neither were very mentally stable at the time 2) Bridgette is one of the hosts with who WAS Geoff (And is now Leshawna. Platonically.), so she has the experience to give speeches like this in front of people. That and she has the calm agency to be mature about the situation, especially how she, more than anyone, feels like she HAS to own up to her mistake of being a part of the fuel that lead to the death of this girl.
And she didn't have to do that, and no one would blame her. Gwen killed Geoff, forced to or not, and Bridgette was understandably upset and could still hold that grudge even after Gwen's death, and no one would blame her. But the fact that she took ownership after realizing what's happened says a lot about her as a person.

If she did address it or apologise would that even make a difference? Simblr never forgets or forgives anything from what I've seen.
listen idk what to tell you except that’s a pointless hypothetical. all you can do is act with the information you have, which is that someone enabled racism and then avoided acknowledging ANY potential harm they may have caused for three full years while rebranding with more racially diverse sims like a shady corporation that got in trouble for something dei related. the extent to which simopeia has buried her head in the sand is unfathomable to me.
you can only control what you can control. this isn’t about all of simblr, it’s about if you want to curate your blog to make nonwhite people feel safe and heard in this community.

Cancel culture is super dangerous and I 100% believe that this year 2023 it’s going to kill someone
One of three things is going to happen
1)A person who’s being cancel justly or unjustly will end themselves
2)Protesting against something leads to violence and people die
3)Random people most likely a minor ends themselves after receiving hate commits for ‘supporting canceled media/person’ on social media
No matter what is being canceled it ending it death isn’t good. 99% of time you shouldn’t wish death upon anyone someone and if you do you are the problem within society. The 1% of time it’s ok to wish death upon someone is if they are like Putin or Kim Jon-Un or a serial killer, true monsters. You shouldn’t justify someone’s death because of cancel culture. If so shame on you.
Regardless of political party, gender, sexuality, race, religion, age, country of origin, education, social economic background, etc we all are humans and our lives matter. Cancel culture others apposing view points which will only lead to more issues and not solving the issues we have.
