My biggest Leverage headcanon is that Sophie, the person under all the masks, can actually act fine in all situations. Sophie Devereaux however, cannot. Whatever cover she was made to be included that she couldn’t act for shit. And while the rest of the alias has mostly fallen to the side, this part is just so instinctual she can’t help it when she has that role.

I’ve been thinking, in the arc of Seven of Nine’s life from villain (in Jeri Ryan’s words, not even a Human) to hero, because of Seven’s time in the Borg it occurred to me:
Seven of Nine might be the first Starfleet officer with a really high body count. Her own subconscious castigated her for causing and participating in the death of millions (Voyager episode, One).
It’s an astronomical number that Seven can’t even hope to scratch. On top of Seven’s sense of duty, no wonder she felt compelled to join the Rangers to save and help as much people as she could. It’s Seven’s form of atonement.
It’s very Eliot Spencer of Seven.
(It’s fun because Jeri guest starred in Leverage as Tara Cole, so her interactions with Eliot, Parker, and Nate were fascinating on a meta level).
Both Eliot and Seven don’t believe they can be redeemed and that just means they will work their whole lives to make up for the harm they did.
The Borg as a whole are so interesting because as Borg drones they are both victim and perpetrator.
Even more complicated for Borg drones are those who grew up in the Borg Collective. Seven was so proud of being Borg and she actively fought against becoming Human (the main difference between Seven and Data). It was only as time went on when Seven realized how much the Borg has harmed her, how terrible the Borg were to everyone.
Alpha Quadrant is where she took the most hit about being Borg.
Unlike the Delta Quadrant where the Borg were native and the DQ people were accustomed to seeing the Borg as a terrifying force of nature, the Borg were a terrifying, existential alien threat for people in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
(Honestly a shame we never got to see Guinan and Seven interact, the Borg destroyed Guinan’s home planet and she was also actively hostile to Hugh. Although, now that I think about it, Guinan not interacting with Seven might be deliberate on Guinan’s part. She’s evolved but also, it is probably still hard interacting with former Borg).
It's just fascinating especially when Raffi asked Seven in season 1 why she was doing the things she did -- "I suppose at this point its habit."
Seven’s core need to save people might be why Seven was so frustrated with Picard in Stardust City Rag -- because she had expected more of him and as Zani lightly admonished Picard: "Because you could not save everyone, you chose to save no one."
Standing on the sidelines is something Seven can’t abide, and that’s what Picard and Starfleet did. I do wonder what Janeway was doing because I can’t see her standing idly by either.

oooo 10 and 11 for the fic recs??
okay so i had to do a lil digging for these lolol i apologize for the wait
10/ a fic that isn't prose [poetry, text fic, etc]
after a length of time searching i found the script-formatted fic where crowley and aziraphale create a podcast after the not-apocalypse and i mean -
it's great.
it's a new craze by attheborder
CROWLEY: I try not to make a habit of gratitude, but I must give our appreciation to everyone out there who’s been listening and subscribing to The Ineffable Plan.
AZIRAPHALE: Ooh, yes, we’ve become quite popular, haven’t we?
CROWLEY: Yeah, just hit number eight on the advice charts … No advertising at all.
AZIRAPHALE: Mm. How … miraculous.
CROWLEY: … Aziraphale. You did not.
Crowley and Aziraphale are very possibly the people least qualified, on the entire planet, to start up an advice podcast. But what else is there to do when the world isn’t ending anytime soon, you’re technically on indefinite sabbatical from your lifelong careers, and you need a plausible excuse to spend more time with your best friend who you’re definitely not, absolutely not, maybe just a little, actually maybe overwhelmingly in love with?
i do very much enjoy how thoroughly in you get with this one. we're stuck to the sidelines with the rest of the listeners tagged on twitter and whatnot, watching certain spirals come out and the plot thicken. their voices are so real in my head throughout, without any moment of doubt. i think i laughed right from the summary and didn't stop.
11/ a fic that brought you aboard a new ship
now this line isnt exactly fair because the show itself brought me aboard the ship - the gifsets and the pacific rim comparisons and the long metas to being in sync with each other really introduced me. but the first fic i absolutely remember reading for the ot3 was this one -
safe as houses by thecanaryfalls
Parker and Hardison comfort Eliot, in their weird multimillionare-convicted-felons-who-are-planning-a-life-with-him kind of way.
Set right around The Rundown Job.
this is that middle of the night, quiet and soft piece where you can hear how loud someone's shifting on the couch is -
like does that make sense.
the bit of early early dawn where its too soon to speak up before the birds but you still wanna have that sleepover conversation moment where you have to reassure your best friend you're always gonna be there.
this was that. this is where it was so so solid for me.
ask me about the fic rec meme!

Leverage really said "season one we focused on how evil the insurance companies are. Let's kick off season three with how evil private prisons are!"

leverage is so fucking funny. man manages to find the most mentally ill and neurodivergent group of thieves on the market + an even more mentally ill guy whose literal job description was trying to chase all of them, and forces them into a found family speed-run by trying to blow them all up. they lowkey stage a full fucking country wide coup and are like eh 🤷 just another wednesday. this might be a fun place to vacation tho i guess. sophie shows up to her own funeral twice. they're so good at convincing people of their shit that they make a guy's body start reacting to an illness he doesn't have because it isn't real. go completely out on a limb and basically hand this one guy a new password for his computer so they can get into it and he goes with it. parker and hardison have straight up just "fake it 'till you make it"d into the fbi without even attempting to cover their tracks beyond just These Two Guys. half their clients never asked to be their clients and don't know they're their clients, and the other half are random people who find them who fuckin knows how, meanwhile no government agency can track them down without selling their soul to sterling. they make a point to have a dramatic scene w a Big Bad Shadowy Government Guy who doesn't actually get caught or brought to justice or anything telling them he's going to hunt them all down, and in any other show this would probably earn at least a minor arc later on but he literally never shows up again. an entire season finale hinged on a cake and a bunch of clams. they accidentally made eliot a celebrity not once, not twice, but three times. parker blew up her foster parents' house when she was like. nine. and it's hardly a footnote. hardison is just casually an artistic prodigy but it's only ever brought up for the most background of background gags. eliot's biggest beef with parker and hardison for like two and a half seasons is that they won't stop making weird food with lasers and refuse to realize they can't make a decent beer to save their lives. sophie's immediate response to being shot is to call her shooter a wanker. there's a character who has literally killed a man with a mop and they had the audacity to only put her in one episode.

Eliot losing his sh*t when Hardison drops the slushie on the floor of the front passenger seat only to shut up when they spot the mark coming out of the club the two of you are married. this is beyond workplace entanglement you have three stepkids atp and several backup offshore accounts with like a dozen different identities attached to those so you can ride off into the f*cking sunset if need be. and no as much as you are threatening to kill him for the violation of your car space you wouldn't do a damn thing let's be real

i love the scene in episode 10 of season 2 of leverage redemption when breanna says she wants the evil professor dude like bagged and gagged, and eliot and parker are just immediately like "okay bet lets fucking go nab this guy". like no questions asked, breanna asked for it, so they're going to do it. sophie has to step in to stop it and it just has me thinking like damn. breanna really has some of the most powerful and influential criminals in her pocket and wrapped around her finger. the very power she holds, the sway she has. can you imagine just other criminals in the leverage world just knowing this. like, just understanding that you lay so much as a finger on breanna casey, slight her in any way, then they're going to have the wrath of the og leverage team of leverage international against them, the full rage of eliot spencer, alec hardison, and the parker plotting vengeance. like just ugh i love this family and i love how breanna is their (eliot hardison parker) kid, the same way they were nate and sophie's. it's just a beautiful full circle that honestly has to be some of the best media ever written.

There's something very....Something........about the commercials during Leverage being for """supplements"'" that advertise themselves as """trusted brands""" backed by """science""" as if those sorts of companies aren't exactly the sort of companies Leverage takes down all the time
It's literally called "Life Extension", as if that's not The literal sketchest name brand in all of existence.
And then, in teeny tinsy print at the bottom, it clarifies the product is not approved by the FDA.
But sure. A """"""trusted brand"""""".
