i know fandom's been getting some laughs out of oliver saying he wanted to play buck as bi even if it was never confirmed (which is amusing to me for the simple fact that he clearly already was without trying, otherwise we wouldn't be shipping him with eddie), but imagine having to sit with the knowledge that your character could have been canonically bi and wind up dating a dude only to get a girlfriend, cheat on said girlfriend, break up with that girlfriend, and get a new girlfriend in the span of two seasons asdfghjkl (makes the ily scene from 5A all the more funny, if you ask me. "where did it all go wrong???" )

the fact that it wasn't about jealousy not really, it stemmed deep from the fear of who he is in buck's core he's Evan he's replaceable in people's lives. Everyone he loved left him or found someone else he will always be a spare. And that's why "You act like you're expendable. But you're wrong" was so important and that's why it's gonna happen again he needs to hear that from Eddie again

does anyone ever watch episodes of 9-1-1 and have to remind themselves that there wouldn't be an eddie diaz had the three creators not heard ryan was looking for work and reached out to suggest he try their show instead? like. he didn't even know there was an opportunity. they saw him/heard about his previous audition and thought 'we could do something with this.'
three seasons of "omg what if they're getting rid of eddie???" or actually thinking they would when in reality ryan was HAND-PICKED. the job is his for as long as he wants it.

Since I've read some stuff about s7 possibly recalling previous moments to give a sort of history for the new audience, one thing I hope to see ONE DAY - just for my own enjoyment, btw - is a callback to "You can have my back any day." Whether the roles are reversed and Buck gets to say that line next time or Eddie still does and we see a much more confident, playful Buck respond with "You can have mine", I would like a mutual recognition of their early days. With a hint of amusement because who knew they really would end up real close?

on a serious note, though, can we talk about ryan also seeing the humor in eddie asking buck for help with chris’s girl problem?
can we talk about eddie knowing buck’s history, knowing that he’s just gotten out of another relationship, but still seeking his insight because he trusts buck to be there in whatever way chris needs? because he trusts buck can get chris to open up in a way no one else would?
can we talk about tim establishing them as a family??? again??? even without a relationship???

i don’t think people are fully grasping the magnitude of buck wanting to bring tommy to the wedding.
his parents are gonna be there.
he could just as easily have gone to the wedding alone and planned a different, more private date.
but by taking tommy as his plus-one, he’s showing that he’s getting comfortable in his own skin, that outsider opinion isn’t going to have him scrambling for excuses.
this isn’t just about a ship. it’s about buck knowing he’s not making any progress if he continues to find reasons to hide who he really is from the people he cares about.

What’s your opinion opionion on Tommy calling Buck Evan 👀 He’s called him Evan more times than anyone on the show has in total lol
I'm not the type to post a well thought out meta (and this is not that), but #unpopularopinion? I think it's perfect. Not only did the lack of protest from Buck when Tommy used his real name at the beginning of episode four show that there was something *different* about Tommy, something that Buck clearly liked, but "Tommy's Evan" is not the Evan that joined the 118, or the Evan that has cheated death more than once, and he's most definitely not the Evan that was raised by Maddie. This Evan is discovering a part of himself he never realized was waiting to be found, and better yet, he's embracing it. This Evan followed his heart instead of continuing to date women just because it's what people would have expected of him. This Evan is starting to find peace within himself, and feel more like himself than he has in years. This Evan is free.

is the fandom collectively pretending like buck wasn't trying to ask tommy out for a drink and was told no because tommy was busy with...eddie? like, i get it, all roads lead to buddie, it ain't over 'til it's over, etc. etc., but the show very much told us that buck was trying to get tommy's attention in the opening minutes and that eddie was an obstacle. tommy not realizing buck has a crush on him doesn't mean buck was secretly pining for eddie instead. (no hate to the spec, i'm specifically talking about people who genuinely believe tommy was brought here this season to make buck understand he's in love with eddie.)

Being 100% serious.
Ryan is actually so good at the PR game and it’s clear FOX made a mistake in not putting him out there more often.
Is Marisol staying in the picture? Is she leaving the picture? You’re gonna have to watch to find out!
Something new for both Buck and Eddie? Fandom already thinks they know what he means, but he could just as easily be talking about them going on two separate journeys or that one has to help the other navigate a change.
Oliver gives as much information as he can without spoiling anything.
Ryan drops one comment and lets everyone go crazy. Doesn’t matter what any of us think when he already knows what’s gonna happen.

i was 100% one of the many who did not want to read about how buck and taylor would make good fwb or that buck and lucy hooking up could/should have been part of buck's "regression" when i was more passionate about my ship, but people getting shamed for supporting a canon mlm pairing because there's still another one that may never reach that same status is...i don't get that at all. yes, buddie is the preferred option for most of the fandom, but is everyone supposed to be fucking miserable for the next however many years waiting around to see whether the show finally pulls the trigger? and i'm not even particularly attached to buck/tommy (enjoying the conversation, mostly), but what is solely supporting buddie gonna get anyone in this scenario? brownie points?

because i haven’t really seen this brought up: my favorite, FAVORITE thing about buck heading straight for eddie’s house when he needed a break from everything in 6x12 is that it finally confirmed our suspicions about where buck went to get away from his parents in 4x04. (i like to think chim sent a heads up text the last time just so eddie would be prepared for however buck reacted when he opened the door). HE FEELS SAFE WITH EDDIE!!!!! ALWAYS HAS!!!!! ALWAYS WILL!!!!!

sue me or whatever, but eddie saying tommy would be an idiot to walk away from buck makes me want to live in the 9-1-1 verse where buck and tommy actually DO have some sort of relationship conflict (in season 8 perhaps???) and eddie takes it upon himself to intervene by pulling tommy aside and telling him the kinds of things only a best friend of a significant other would be allowed to. it'd be a great way to strengthen buck's current relationship (they actually worked through their issues!!) while also reinforcing that buddie's dynamic has not changed - eddie will always be the best friend who understands buck in ways other people don't.

Okay, still getting a lot of this in my inbox, so to recap: -> Tommy originally having a four episode arc ON SCREEN does not mean Buck and Tommy aren't still going to be a thing in the background. -> Lou can't speak about episodes he has no script for. Tommy obviously doesn't need to be in episode seven because that's the start of Bobby's next arc, but 8? 9? 10? None of those are done. -> I won't lie, I'll be surprised if Tommy isn't back for the finale because no matter which way things are headed (and ABC might leave it open-ended until they have a clearer idea of what to do) we should be able to SEE Buck and Tommy together again to get an idea of where they stand. I'm gonna be 100% honest, y'all. I don't see how people are getting "break up" in episode six when 1) it's still supposed to be about Madney and 2) I don't think the point of Buck coming out to the rest of his friends and his parents on that EXACT day is for he and Tommy to walk away from each other by the end of the hour. That only makes sense if Tommy never actually shows up or Buck changes his mind, but we know neither of those things are true.

I know the fandom consensus is to joke about Eddie asking Buck to help Chris with a girl problem because he has such a successful dating history, but shout out to Tim Minear for finding a way to give the audience (and the fandom, especially) Buckley-Diaz content right off the bat instead of having Eddie discuss it amongst the whole 118 and then handle things on his own. Which we saw last season when Chris had a crush and was attending the school dance.
What a difference.

With the vibes coming out of these interviews (when you don’t take them out of context 🫠), I’m just gonna say that I don’t need Buddie to be canon to see it as canon (just like I have never needed Chris to call Buck his dad to believe it for myself) and I would be more than fine if Tim finally closed the fucking door on the speculation with Tommy.
The audience is here for it. Don’t fuck up something that’s working for something that isn’t changing anytime soon.

Anyone else get emotional over Eddie sneaking Chris into the room so Chris could have (what might’ve been) his one chance at seeing Buck? Or is anyone else thinking about Eddie waiting until Chris turned away to cry, and how he must have been putting on a brave face at home, waiting until Chris was at school, or asleep, or playing video games to allow himself to FEEL SOMETHING? No? Just me?
