There's a real paradox here that makes it impossible for me to get a new hyperfixation/take a break from Tumblr. I usually use tumblr to access things about my new interest. This was easier when I never had an account and just scrolled through the tags and endlessly bookmarked things. But there's no way to go back to that now: for one, the tablet I did all that with is nearly dead (and I still never use it anymore because the thought of it dying terrifies me), and two: Tumblr is nearly impossible to use without an account. If I log out of my account and attempt to search for anything, this screen inevitably pops up:

THIS! THIS RIGHT HERE IS MY PROBLEM! It's impossible to scroll without an account, but I never want to leave my dashboard once I log into my account. It's a cursed paradox!! I hate it!!! I'm reposting this now because nobody has seen this post in a long time, and yet I still strigg with it. What was tumblr thinking when they implemented this policy!?

while we're talking about things tumblr should do: i would kill someone to get partitioned dashboards.

IN ADDITION TO (not instead of!!!) the your tags section, give us the ability to set custom sets of tags and blogs we always want to see at certain times! because of the tagging system on here, some of the moods i'm in i need like seven or eight tags to make sure i catch all the content and i have to reselect them all

it would be so much easier to be able to go into a dropdown or smth and select like "nonhuman content" or "cooking stuff" or whatever and have that lead to a page that's stuff i pre-curated and is saved every time i get off it

kinda like "your tags" but it stays as a preset

What can we do about the new Tumblr design?

It's evident most of us, desktop users, are not very satisfied with the new redesign.

So, I think there are only two ways to approach this, that we as a community could choose.

Embrace it. Accept the new design, use it as default without any modifications, and help providing the staff with improvements, bug reports and feedback. The choice has been made and we do love the platform. Also, have in consideration a new redesign as big as this one is always in a beta stage for the first weeks it's lauched. So it will improve and end up having it's own identity with time. Because I think that, for now they just copy and pasted the twitter concept, to start working from there as a starting point.

Fight like users did back in 2018 with the Snapchat redesign. User feedback claiming for the old design worked back then. But, most users of the platform are mobile so it affected a bigger portion of the userbase, compared to Tumblr where desktop users are not the majority (not sure about this tho, but I guess today most Tumblr users are mobile).

We need to spread awareness about how to get Tumblr to actually listen to our complaints, because I always see people tagging and @ -ing "staff" and "tumblr" but apparently that doesn't connect our posts to the people who actually make these horrid decisions about the layout and whatnot. There has to be a tag and @ that actually directs towards somebody who can do something about this shit because I want to start seeing us just dumping our complaints and suggestions somewhere where they're actually heard.

Unfortunately, this issue is so annoying that I don't even know what tag / @ that would be. Guys if anyone knows how we can actually get our posts to be seen by somebody responsible for what we're upset about PLEASE REBLOG THIS AND TELL US

Glad Tumblr Live is gone (especially since I never used it). Still bugged by how the sidebar looks more empty now that the tumblr live button isn't there. It's gonna take a while for my brain to get used to the shorter sidebar again, I just know it. So that's annoying.
