I need to come up with something for these guys.
Rolt's Folley and Charlie's Ant are such goldmines of potential for Skarloey stories but I imagine Wilbert/Chris probably didn't want to have to explain why the numbers got reused.

"Hmph, Where is that tank engine? She was supposed to be here 10 minutes ago!"
"Sorry I'm late Irving! It's just that Nora-"
"-broke down with a train so you had to help?"
"Y-Yea, how did you know?"
"Because you used that same excuse last time you were late!"
"It's not an excuse! You know as well as I do that Nora's boiler hasn't been as good as it used to be!"
"Hmph, well it's not my fault you're late. My passengers have appointments to get to, so do yours. Maybe you should stop helping that old tram and focus on your own work like a proper engine!"
"Pah, Mr. Quinton would never approve of me not helping an engine in need and you know it!"
"Not my problem, Louise, now, if you don't mind, I've got a schedule to keep."
"I DO mind! Get back here you overgrown pie cutter!"

lemme talk about some TTTE OCS!
So this was a long time coming. I tried to post an OC once before but I chickened out and deleted his post. So, here's some lore rundowns for a bunch of my OCs! And by that I mean all of 'em! And my sona, as a bonus! (and details on my personal canon!!!)
(This took me like 3 attempts to write because Tumblr kept eating the part about Wesley when I accidentally hit ctrl+z because I made a typo on Forsythia's basis :sob:)
Putting a break so I don't clog any tags haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, for the third time I am trying to write this (dear god), behold, Wesley the Show Engine (and his tender that I admittedly drew in a rush when I drew it)! Wesley is based on Furness No. 20's original batch of 0-4-0 locomotives, generally based on Furness No. 20 in design but less so in backstory. Canonically, he was made after that batch of locos but his build date is undecided still.
He was made for a Collector, Mr. Titus Lancaster. The two attended engine shows for years, and while Wesley enjoyed it, he was rather isolated from other engines and rolling stock for many years. He admired the railway working life from afar and longed to have it.
Eventually his wish would be granted in both his and his Collector's old age when he donated him to the NWR.
Wesley's a rather interesting character to me in his origins. He's an old engine but very inexperienced with the rails.
Personality-wise, he's kindhearted, hardworking, sincere, passionate, and would rather get along with others, but he can be very gullible (early on) due to his lack of experience, and is imbued with the spirit of Sodor's karmic justice itself. (Read: he's really vengeful at times. If you cross him, he wants to ensure you get your just desserts.)
He's humble and quick to admit to his mistakes and apologize when he messes up (an uncommon trait on the railways LOL), and while he's open-minded, he's also willing to admit he's a bit foolish and unworldly. He mainly works on Edward's Branch Line.
He likes snow and snowploughs (he finds them comfortable in the way a weighted blanket or lead x-ray wear is comfortable), karma, being out and about, any work at all, and bugs.
He dislikes being patronized/infantilized/treated as if he's stupid and incapable, geese (there was an incident), most animals, the sound of babies crying, and almost all trucks. He's open to the idea of there being trucks that aren't troublesome but he doesn't know any yet.
I'd like to highlight a central relationship he has in his stories, that of his relationship with Edward. The two were quick friends and once made eye contact at an engine show YEARS before they properly met (though neither recognized the other). Eventually that friendship became a tendency to want to work together more and more often, and the duo became very close indeed... and then they started being gay as all hell. Gay ol' engines. Good for them! (They get married in a plotline of mine. I'm dead serious. Gay train wedding!!!)
EDIT: Something I forgot to note! While he's also vengeful, he's insists on doing nice things for others who have done nice things for him. Everything is a two-way street. One turn deserves another, good or bad.
For reading all that, here's a Checkpoint Human!Wesley I drew.
Tumblr media
Moving right along, we have a narrow gauge duo!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I present to you Forsythia the Rambunctious Engine and Nicolas, her coach. Forsythia was based on the 2-4-0T Rheidol/Talybont/Treze de Maio and a fucked up kiddie ride I saw once.
Tumblr media
Yeah, it's a really fucked up kiddie ride.
These two are owned by Ms. Tiffany Lancaster, the niece of Wesley's former Collector (who has passed by the time she obtains these two). They are often loaned to the Skarloey to help out there (until a later event we'll touch on with the next OC).
These two got BWBA'd before I even knew what the hell was going on in BWBA. Except it's much more realistic and boring in execution. Just a lot of boring time on cargo ships with shipping mix-ups! They got to Sodor though, don't worry.
They've got the energy of childhood best friends imo. Also, Forsythia and Wesley consider one another cousins, but like, adoptive cousins specifically.
Forsythia is down to clown and is cheeky and mischievous and a prankster but she is an experienced variety. And she knows when to back off. And she will, if you ask her (and you're not on her list of Those She Is Close Enough To Clown Upon Always And Forever or Those I Hate)! I'd say she's... like... young adult or teenager -coded. She's very energetic and a Large Ham if you know about that trope.
Now, look at Nicolas, her coach. Tell me, when you look at him, do you think he's the serious sort? You'd be wrong there. He's also down to clown! And he's here for the shenanigans as well. He's simply the quiet, observant deadpan to Forsythia's rambunctious large ham.
[EDIT: I never noted that sometimes these two's antics involve collaborating with the Troublesome Trucks. Forsythia's always offended when the inevitable betrayal happens.]
Now for that lore thing I mentioned. I have an adaptation of Toby's Discovery in my AU in which TFC does not manage that part of the railway. Instead he does participate in its restoration but it is ran by none other than Tiffany Lancaster! Forsythia is the Ulfstead Heritage Railway's Engine No. 2! (Engine No. 1 is Bertram; Forsythia would've been No. 1 if some contract things with the Skarloey Railway didn't have to be sorted out first.)
[EDIT: Now that Forsythia and Nicolas are consistently on a railway, they do have a cluster of trucks that won't betray them because of how fun things just tend to be with those two.]
And on that railway, eventually there arrived a BR Class 12 Diesel, but refitted to narrow gauge.
Tumblr media
I present my final OC, Sycorax. Sycorax's arc is very dear to me because it has origins in both a random thought I had, a quote Awdry said in a video I watched, and my own opinions on locomotives and Sodor.
The video I've linked here made me have a realization about older diesels.
https://youtu.Be/h-xesjpiqgo?T=189
I can see where Awdry was coming from on this - he witnessed dieselization firsthand! But boy, I think diesels (and electrics!) have their charm and I'm really fond of them actually. I know it's very different as a modern reader who barely has any exposure to locomotives in person anyways due to the infrastructure of the United States just… Sucking sometimes, but nevertheless, my point stands.
Sycorax's arc starts with them in a most dire place: about to be scrapped. But fate saves them and they're refitted and brought to Sodor, where they find that, despite being the new thing, they're envious of steam engines, seeing their charm and the fact that they'll always be in fashion somewhere… And they feel generic and replaceable.
But eventually they start to realize that diesels become obsolete too. Now this is particularly regarding a dash of TVS canon but I like to think that the diesels of Sodor are there because Sodor, is too, a safe haven for them as well as steam engines. That's why absolute assholes stay around sometimes, it's because they've nowhere else to go. Sycorax realizes their envy is unwarranted, and that Sodor is a safehaven for all types of engines who need it, it's just that, at the time, steam engines needed it most. And they're not replaceable. And this is home now.
[EDIT: Forgot to add that they're the UHR (ulfstead heritage railway) No. 3!]
Thank you for reading all that. As a finale, let me briefly touch on my sona, The Secondman himself.
The Secondman is literally a self-insert/sona guy who's a human studying on modern day Sodor. He volunteers on the railways of the island often. He intends to immigrate there properly once he's done with his schooling. He's essentially is to me what the Thin Clergyman was to Awdry. In-universe, he writes my fanbooks, my silly little shitposts about various Engine Incidents, and a whole bunch of other things. And he's having a good time.
I haven't drawn him. But nevertheless!
Thank you SO MUCH for reading this loredump. I hope you enjoyed.

My First Story
I wrote this like 2 years ago, and have only now rewrote it for an au that I haven't touched in a while lol.
TL;DR Sodor is more industrialized, the pre-NWR railways are more prosperous, and industries are backdated. It's all mainly inspired by Sudrian Histories so go check that out.
Please enjoy and please be nice lol.
The Loaned Engines
Edward the Blue Engine was, to put it simply, exhausted. Being one of the NWR’s only tender engines, he was frequently used, and frequently tired. Now don’t get him wrong, he had been expecting hard work, (It was much better that sitting in the shed out-of-use back on the Furness), but this was more akin to being run into the ground. He had to deal with Express trains, boat trains, light goods work (which he had to shunt himself) and even the evening mail train! The only other tender engines were Crovan and Varian, though Edric was converted from a tank engine, and he wasn’t fast enough for most of Edward’s trains, and with Crovan and Varian already busy with goods trains, almost exclusively double-heading, this left the newly-painted blue engine in a bad mood, though he tried to hide it as much as he could.
“Oh - I hope the Director can get some more engines loaned in!” said Edward in the sheds that night, “I am EXHAUSTED”
“You and me both!”said Rognvald, a tank engine from the old WSR,“These yards are extremely difficult to handle right now…. And that’s not even mentioning the station and the coaches and the bloody stupid workmen and the rude foreign engines who always seem to have an opinion and-”
“‘Vald, your rambling again”
“.......sorry Edward, it - it's just a lot right now…”
“ Well besides” , continued Edward, “Isn’t Thomas helping out?”
“ Pah!--the idiot does more harm than help. He gets on my nerves far to easily”
“ Now, now, he isn’t that bad-”
“ NOT THAT BAD - but of course you would say that, you're the only one he listens to for some reason!”
“ Well….anyways, I have to leave for the mail, bye ‘Vald! ”
Rognvald only gave a grunt in reply. It was a good thing he did have to leave, or else he would have said some very bad words just then…..
The Fat Director came the next day. He had important news that all the engines would be thankful for. Though he considered just leaving then and there when he had trouble getting everybody’s attention….
“ SILENCE! ”, he bellowed at last.
“ Now then, now that I finally have your attention, I am very pleased to announce that the LNWR, Highland railway, and Great Central have agreed to loan us some big engines to help us out! They will be arriving in a few days, and I expect you all to give them a warm welcome and if you all ruin this in any way I will. go. Feral. …. Now have a good day! ”
He left for the station cafe.
“He said that all in one breath…”
A few days later, Edward was shunting some coaches. He dropped them off in the carriage sidings and made his way back to the sheds. He was mildly surprised to see 4 large engines simmering outside the sheds. Two were painted green, with red-and-white lining and red frames to match. One was a darker green with long splashers, and the last was painted Black. All of them were just lazing about with differing expressions on their faces.
‘Must be the loaned engines’ He thought. ‘I should go introduce myself!’
“Hullo!”
The engines looked at him. The black engine was unamused and frowned, the dark green engine was angry at something, and the green engines looked mildly intrigued.
At last,  the black engines spoke.
“Who are you, exactly? We were told that this No-Where railway’s main passenger engine was to arrive here. Are you covering for him or something? Also, you really need to be cleaned, I mean you are filthy!”
“And tiny as well!” Said the larger green engine.
Edward frowned. He did not have the energy for this.
“ I am the main passenger engine, I’ll have you know! I’m Ed-”
“ You can’t be serious...”
The look on her facing was one of disgust and disbelief, and was shared with the larger green engine. The dark green engine was annoyed and the smaller green engine thought it was a great joke.
Before Edward could reply, the Black engine spoke again.
“It’s no wonder that your Directors had to beg for us to come here, if they have tiny things like you running around!”
“Yeah!”said the larger green engine, “ You’re ancient, I mean, you look 40 years old! ”
“ I’ll have you know that I’m only 25! ”
“Whatever ya say blueberry…”
“ BLUEBERRY ”
“Aight that's it-SHUT UP”
All three arguing engines looked at the dark green engine. She looked livid.
“ Ahm no’ dealin’ wit this right now. I’m fookin’ tired, I’m angry, and I’m at some fookin’ railway in the boonies where their best engine is a blueberry-”
“ I say!- ”
“ Now I'm goin’ tae go take ah nap. Don’t talk tae me fer the next few hours unless ya want meh tae run ya into the shed wall.”
With that, she reversed into the sheds.
The smaller green engine soon began snickering.
“ That. Was. Hilarious! Honestly, I can tell I’m gonna have a good time here! Now, since Miss Green-bean is done, I’m gonna go find something else to do! See ya real soon blueberry!”
With that, she left for the yards.
Only the black engine and big green engine were left, but Edward decided that he was just too tired for this right now, and left, leaving the two engines alone.
He made his way to a siding nearby the station to rest when he saw Thomas.
“ Hullo Edward! ” called Thomas. He then saw the expression on Edwards face.
“ What's wrong? ”
“ The loaned engines ”, Edward replied, before he promptly went to sleep in the carriage sheds.
He knew the next few months would be so tiring. Thomas, who actually picked up on what Edward really meant, frowned.

The Lakeland Bank Railway
Tumblr media
Many years ago on the Mainland, there laid a small railway with small engines. The railway was founded by the Raven family, local landowners and shipping magnates, who had taken a keen interest in the creation of their own estate railway after visiting the lines of Sir Arthur Heywood.
Opened in the early 1900s, this railway was first known as the Raven Hall Railway, and existed only to serve the Family Estate and connect it to a local town. It was serviced by a selection of small tank engines, named after the family’s children: Lila, Ulla, Ariel, & Brady.
The Engines of the Raven Hall Railway.
Lila (She/Her), an 0-6-0 Tank Engine, was the engine most plagued by difficulties over the Raven Hall Railway’s brief history. She had trouble steaming, trouble seeing, and trouble staying on the track. However, Sir Morton remained adamant he could cure her ails, and often would take her on night runs when the line wasn’t as busy.
Ulla (They/Them), an 0-6-0 Tank Engine, was Lila’s twin, and suffered many the same problems as her. Unfortunately, they weren’t as doted upon as their sibling, and often felt overshadowed by her. But they were determined to prove themself, even if they just wanted to be thought of as a part of the family.
Ariel (She/Her), an 0-8-0 Tank Engine, was the biggest and strongest engine of the Raven Hall Railway, though was difficult to handle due to her size. All the same, in spite of this she was the engine most respected by outsiders, even though others felt she was more burdensome than anything else.
Bradley (He/Him), an 0-4-0 Tank Engine, was the “baby” of the line. Despite this, he had a will to power unlike any of the other engines, and would do his best to tackle any train no matter how long, even if it was better suited for the other engines. He was a particular favorite among the family’s children.
Tumblr media
These four would continue in service for some time, but after the end of the Great War, a new fortune would strike the line. Metals such as Copper and Iron Ore were discovered on the Raven Estate alongside good stone, and Sir Morton Raven sought to capitalize on this. With his son Brady assisting him, he began his expansion proper as the Lakeland Bank Railway, servicing the new quarries in the area.
With this, more engines would be needed, and, as Heywood had passed away, he sought assistance from Bassett-Lowke and Henry Greenly, who graciously supplied him with the new engines he desired as well as rolling stock. Among the Bassett-Lowke engines arrived two familiar engines named Rex and Mike.
Glenda (She/Her), a Bassett-Lowke Class 30, was the railway’s new flagship engine. She headed the line’s limited passenger services, and acted as quite the celebrity in the local area. Unfortunately, her position would later be usurped by another engine, which did plenty of damage to her ego.
Magnus (They/Them), a Bassett-Lowke Class 60, overtook Ariel as the line’s goods engine, and developed quite the rivalry with her -- one that threatened to destroy them both in time. They were stoic and believed in adhering to authority, but had a great respect for their predecessors. The same couldn’t be said for their brother, unfortunately.
For a time, the line was considerably profitable, but tragedy struck in the late 1920s when Ariel and Magnus collided with one another in a wreck that nearly destroyed both goods engines. Despite his aging condition, Sir Morton got to work with his son to undo the damage that had been done, and as Ariel was in the better condition, she was rebuilt into an 0-8-2 tender engine under a new name. Magnus would not be so fortunate.
Tumblr media
Things changed drastically for the line afterwards, as not long after, Sir Morton Raven passed away. His son Bradley inherited his Baronetcy, but had to sort affairs regarding the family’s shipping company, leaving the line to the now widowed Lady Douglas Raven.
Lady Raven worked to ensure the line’s stability during the Great Depression, though at times this meant some engines had to part ways with the line. Bradley was sold off first, being unable to manage the workload. Lila and Ulla were withdrawn and scrapped during the 1930s, with Glenda sold to another railway shortly after. Come the Second World War, only Three Small Engines were left: Rex, Mike, & Bert.
The War went by fairly uneventful, as the engines were mothballed in the ghastly Raven Estate. But the return following proved very difficult. Much of the equipment used by the railway hadn’t been invested in since the 1920s, and by the 1950s, the line officially closed. A worn Sir Bradley returned to oversee its closure, and placed what he deemed salvageable in storage on the Raven Estate. And for some years, that was that.
But, in the 1960s, Sir Bradley received a visit from a rather famous Stout Gentleman, seeking engines to run a special project of his in the Arle Valley on the Island of Sodor. Sir Bradley was eager to find a new home for Rex, Mike, Bert and the line’s old rolling stock, but sad to see the last of his father’s dream leave the line.
