Achilles jokes about his mother kidnapping him when she finds out about his relationship with Patroclus, but Thetis does kidnap Achilles after she sees how close they've become when they return to Pthia from Mount Pelion. Achilles believes that Thetis kidnapped him to protect him from the war, but that forcing him to marry Deidameia and have a child with her was because of his relationship with Patroclus. Thetis tried to do everything possible to repel Achilles and Patroclus, stopping not only at taking Achilles to a place where no one in his previous life was supposed to find him, but stopping only when Achilles was married, forced to lie with a woman, and childbound.
Achilles complied only because Thetis promised to tell Patroclus his location if he did her bidding, although she never intended to keep this promise. Achilles only knew his mothers lie when Patroclus came and told him that he went through all that pain for nothing. It wouldn't have mattered if he complied with his mothers cruel wishes, at this point in the book Thetis was never going to willingly bring Patroclus back into Achilles life. She forced him into a marriage and a family to hurt him, hoping that Patroclus would despise him for it, and hoping that Achilles would feel obligated to live this new life without him.
She tried to kill Patroclus from Achilles life, in all of the ways that mattered most to them.

What I’m calling By the Sea au, I was thinking about how thetis is nymph and then I was like ‘what if mermaid?’ And here we are.

In the au Pat is a lighthouse keeper with his dad and how he first meets Achilles is when Achilles saves him from drowning when he tries to get back to the lighthouse during a storm.

Peleus and thetis are in love but also kind of divorced and peleus runs a sandwich shop because why not.
Tumblr media
She’s a lot more chill and mostly just wants Achilles to be less reckless and not get hurt
Tumblr media
Briseis is Achilles’s friend and she is the one who helps him do a little spell to turn human for two weeks.

So I was imagining the end of Tsoa again, and I got to the end end parts. There’s Patroclus, sitting on the steps of Achilles grave, talking to Thetis, smiling through tears. And then
“Have you no more memories?”
“I am made of memories.”
Excuse me while I go sob my heart out again Ineedaminute

Thetis hugging Achilles first despite the misogynistic tradition saying that fathers come first and mothers after or not at all to assert her dominance is my favourite move of the book actually. go Queen

Thetis: I knew it you two are having sex!
Achilles: *laying down, playing the lyre, with Patroclus sitting next to him*
Achilles: We are? Patroclus why didn’t you tell me I would have put the lyre down

So I wanted to know how long it took for Thetis to write Patroclus’ name, and she mentions that Pyrrhus was dead and that was the reason for her visits to Achilles resting place…
On google it says Pyrrhus died when he was around 46; meaning that Patroclus’ spirit was left wandering/trapped between worlds for 34 years!!!
IT TOOK 34 YEARS FOR PATROCLUS AND ACHILLES TO BE REUNITED!!
Someone tell me rn that I am wrong because this is destroying me😐
