I guess @morgansplace (who's a demonic tempter for that) tagged me in the musical ships thing, which means it's time to explain like half my Gavin/Freelancer playlist (and try to remember other couples exist...) Tagging @cottagecorexboy @teasandcardigans @lostinanothersmemories no pressure, of course.
Gavin/Freelancer:
"New People" by Splean - one of my main Gavin/Freelancer songs, because it's about sex (explicitly straight sex, but we'll ignore it), life, death and seeming immortality. "The trolleybuses are driving with position lights off / People are making new people at nights"
"Wet Gleam of Our Eyes" by Alexander Bashlachev (or a badly recorded version by "Night Snipers" that I like so much more) - another one about sex, but this time more about love that's definitely somewhere there and not being used to it but learning together. "I probably love you, / But I'll stay silent about it, / And I'll just tell you that / I want you." (Wrote a whole fic for it.)
"ringtone" by Night Snipers - sweet domesticity, that no one expected, and letting go and letting yourself have it. "It’s about warmth and skin molecules / Of two, agree - you won’t regret it / Make my voice the ringtone of dawn / I know your smell, I remember how it is / Hair, tenderness, pillows and moans / Make my voice the ringtone of morning." - you know, something that stated the first time he stayed the night?
"Tsoi" by Night Snipers - right before the cost song for them explained here. "When silence is no longer gold but dynamite / And my heart is like a bomb in my chest, and not just hurts, / And tears in the morning, and treacherously a hundred times a day, / I will burn out fast."
"What More Can I Say?" from "Falsettos" - right after the confession song for which I also wrote a whole fic. "If I said I love him, / You might think my words come cheap. / Let's just say / I'm glad he's mine awake, / Asleep."
"My Heart" by Splean - a fun song about an accidental meeting that brings together two people who fit together so well and love each other not despite but because they're simple and flawed. Partly incorporated in this fic. "And for exactly a thousand years we wake up together / Even if we fell asleep in different places / We start making coffee to Elvis Presley / Coffee boiled over to “Propellerheads”, ah!"
"Being Alive" from "Company" - a song that so perfectly encapsulates the first season of Gavin/Freelancer - literally everything there fits. Of course, already in a fic. "Someone to crowd you with love / Someone to force you to care / Someone to make you come through / Who'll always be there / As frightened as you / Of being alive"
"Looking for You" from "31st of June" - their iconic (in my head) Imperium soulmates song about finding each other through anything and everything. "We wait for love all the time, like a miracle / We are waiting for one, the only one, like a miracle, / Although it should, it should burn without a trace. / Tell me how could we find out / Find out when we met, / That you are mine and I am yours love and destiny?"
"My Love" by Splean - their iconic cottagecore!witch!AU (that might not be that much of an AU at this point) song about loving a witch and learning magic. "Only pines and amber resin know / How bodies entwine in tall grasses. / My love, / You are my Love. / Ask a flute of dry reeds, / What a muddy river hides at its bottom, / My love."
"Wait for Me and I'll Return" by Leonid Utesov - their Inversion song explained here. "Wait for me and I will come back, / Out of spite for all deaths. / Those who did not wait for me, let them / Say: “Lucky”. / Do not understand those who did not wait for me, / How in the middle of fire / With your waiting / You saved me / How I survived, will know / Only you and I - / You just knew how to wait / Like no one else."
(That's not all of them, of course, but these are the main ones, I suppose.)
Lasko/Freelancer:
"Here's to the Losers" by Frank Sinatra - I guess it's kind of self-explanatory - they're too unfortunate people who find happiness in each other. "Here's to those who love not too wisely, know not wisely, but too well / To the girl who sighs with envy when she hears that wedding bell / To the guy who'd throw a party if he knew someone to call / Here's to the losers, bless them all"
"A Song about a Boy in Love" from "Carnival Night" - this is just a sweet little thing about a guy who's too shy and stuttery to confess but he still manages to. "I don't know how to start / All in all... Meaning... So to say / No, this isn't working again."
Avior/Starlight:
“Wings” by Nautilus Pompilius - metaphorically about hiding visible trauma and literally about Avior's fall. Explained here. "I see you are afraid of open windows / and upper floors. / And if a fire starts tomorrow / and the whole building will be in flames, / We will die without these wings / which I liked."
"I Want to Be with You" by Nautilus Pompilius - about torturously painful separation and doing anything to be with the other. Explained here. "Your name has changed long ago / Eyes have lost their colour forever / The drunk doctor told me - you are no more / The firefighter gave me a certificate that your house burned down"
"He was Older than Her" by Time Machine - a song about trying to prevent inevitable tragedy with flying themes. Explained here. "He suffered when it was dark outside the window, / He did not sleep, he locked the window at night. / He sobbed, drank bitter tea in the kitchen / At the hour when she flew at night. / And then, in the morning, she swore, / That yesterday was the last time. / He forgave, but at night it’s dark outside the window, / And she flew away anyway."
"Breath" by Nautilus Pompilius - another song about trying to prevent inevitable tragedy and save the other by sacrificing yourself even if for just a few moments. "I’m trying to forget how to breathe / So that I can give you at least for a minute / That gas that we did not know how to appreciate / But you sleep and you don’t know"
Regulus/Charge:
"Where are You?" by Pilot - a song of loneliness and desperation of both of them before finally coming together. About the charge crying themselves to sleep and being alone even when surrounded by people. About Regulus hiding from the cruel world. "Where are you when I can’t get warm / In a cold bed with black and white dreams? / Where are you when I walk alone / In crowded apartments, walk-through yards?"
