Discovery of Troy
In his epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey, the Greek poet Homer (c. 750 BCE) told the story of the Trojan War, a ten-year siege of the city of Troy by an alliance of Greek city-states. Troy was also known by its Latinised name of Ilium and was located on the northwest coast of Anatolia (modern-day Turkey).

“I've been wanting to create some classical mythology-inspired artwork for a long time. This new project is about the myth of Paris: he was the son of king Priam of Troy, Greek mythology and legends describe him as responsible for the Trojan war.” This is photographer @julyhendrix’s adventure into the realm of mythology, embodied by @hesalexnardelli. Giulia continues in the caption: “Paris was asked by the gods to donate a golden apple to the goddess he considered the most beautiful between Aphrodite, Hera and Athena; he awarded the apple to Aphrodite since she offered him the most beautiful woman on Earth, Helen, which was already married to Menelaus of Sparta: Paris took Helen to Troy and this lead to the war. Later, during the war, Paris, guided by Apollo's hand, killed Achilles, throwing an arrow at his foot.” — #beautifulbizarre #julyhendrix #photography #mythology #paris #contemporaryart #trojanwar #artphotography #fineartphotography #art #artist https://www.instagram.com/p/CnyGrA9Iab_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

My “Age of Mythology” stack (Ancient Greece, Norse, and Egyptian mythology/lit) Haven’t figured out the best way to display them yet. Circe and Song of Achilles are probably the most beautiful ones I own, but David Gemmel’s Troy trilogy is my favorite hands down! #troy #davidgemmell #historicalfiction #trojanwar #ancientgreece #madelinemiller #greekmythology #illiad #circe #songofachilles #norsemythology #egyptianmythology #boomstagram #spencerrussellsmithauthor https://www.instagram.com/p/CnGbNLBu-ZX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Do you ever have those moments where your thoughts just spiral out of you and it takes you a minute or a two to finally compose yourself?
I get those moments numerous times a day, and it's not even happy thoughts that springs out of me- most days it's thoughts about the Trojan war. Did you see there? TOXIC, to have your day start with "The king of men his reverent priest defied, And for the king's offence the people died."
I have days too, quite an abundant of it to be honest; and at this point in my life I am pretty much convinced that, my sole purpose of existence on this earth was to convince people to read The Iliad or The Song of Achilles, or any retelling of the Trojan war for that matter. So yes, I have thoughts on Achilles and Patroclus as I was saying until my thoughts spiralled, you didn't notice did you?
It's the trend see? Like nature has it's cycle, time runs in a circle, the trees birth rings to tell us 'I exist and I decay', and yet still my
thoughts spiral- the trend; is all.
Often times it makes us little humans happy to assume that for someone to be in love with something, it must be a legacy of joy for them, and ofcourse it is; well atleast it is for quite a number of you. For me, I have my grief briefcase where I place all the things that I love, because grief always comes easy to me- to have such unexpressed emotions inside me and explore such foreign and unbeknownst territory of my own soul. I remember my dad tell me that it sounded exciting to be able to explore within yourself, to go that depth because a story or a character moved you so; what he didn't know was- it is exciting to have an adventure seeking the unfamiliar and nameless parts of you as long as you were in control, the you that had a name over the you that was just a shadow still. And yes you guessed it right, I don't enjoy the luxury of excersing control over any part of me, maybe that's why i feel everything profoundly and very intensely. To be in control, such luxury- but I suppose that is a topic for another day.
For today, my dad is right, he is always right, 'to feel is a luxury itself and to have that richness in abundant is a gift only few get to witness while alive,' how can one not love my dad? (Again is a topic for another day) It's almost amusing to the point that it is tragic, that the subject with which we are dealing with today have not yet begun and I have already laid out a course through my mind for you, if it was a math equation now is the moment I write the golden words 'hence proved' but it isn't which makes it tragic. You see, the very word 'tragic' comes from ancient greek, tragedies performed in the form of a ritual to honor the gods and goddesses who lived in a world unlike any other yet somewhere it always linked, the viens of this earth always connected with the divine kingdom so how am I to say that the lives of Achilles and Patroclus was only ever confined to those words that Homer gave birth to under this same earth that nurses those veins within herself, where I exist now eons after them still, worlds and universes intertwining and people still question to the fact of why do I feel so much for them? You can now shut up.
