how to fix a broken link to a tumblr post

this may not apply to a lot of things but my How To Adult document uses links to tumblr posts that often become broken when the blogs they link to change urls or deactivate. SO.

tumblr post links look like this: https://[blog name].tumblr.com/[weird numbers]/[numbers, names, and/or words] (for the sake of clarity, here a tumblr "name" is your URL, e.g. my name is madllys)

for example, let's say i have a link called "https://mlovesstrawberries.tumblr.com/post/692317843574882304/treknatural-madllys-yo-ive-posted-about"

STEP ONE is to search the blog name on tumblr. yes, tumblr's search is shit, BUT. some people tag their asks with the name of the asker, so if i searched for "mlovesstrawberries" i could see a post like this:

as you can see, the name in the tags and the name of the asker given by tumblr are different. "mlovesstrawberries" (in the tags) was my old name, before i changed, but tumblr shows me with my new name, "madllys" (name of the asker). all i have to do now is replace the "mlovesstrawberries" in the link with "madllys" and it should be fixed, unless i deleted the post.

also, if someone tagged (@'ed) mlovesstrawberries (or your equivalent), usually it still looks like mlovesstrawberries but clicking on it leads you to the new blog, where you can see the new blog name.

ALTERNATE STEP ONE if the above does not work (sometimes people are shy and never send asks!), or your person deactivated, or the post was deleted, look at the last part of your link. if it's words and/or names like in my example, you can copypaste it into google and one of the results should be the OG post, if the post had reblogs. if the post you wanted had additions, you might not be able to find a post with the same additions this way, but it'll be close.
