Happy Trans Day Of Visibility, and happy one year to my trans flag scarf!

I didn't quite get in 365 rows, but I wasn't strictly aiming for it. Much like transition itself, knitting is best done by your own choice, at your own pace and for your own joy.

Also much like my own transition, looking back over the incremental progress I've made on this project brings me a deep satisfaction. I don't have many bold and meaningful items to wear, but when this is done I hope I get to wear it often. As the tides of pride turn back from celebration to protest, I trust this scarf will serve me well.

I feel like even in trans positive spaces trans men are seen as less authentic than trans women, because we supposedly have something to gain by transitioning or wanting to be men. (social power.) It's reflective of how we look at historical people that by today's standards we would see as trans men (Joan of Arc) or fictional characters that live as men while secretly being women. (Naoto from Persona, Sheik from Zelda.) And this is going to be an uphill battle until we get rid of gender essentialism in our spaces completely.

if youre not worried about trans rights issues because "its only in the usa" then youre sorely mistaken, once theyre done fucking killing us in the usa, theyre coming for other countries too. there was already a terf protest in australia, given, they were drowned out by trans supportive people, but this shows that they wont fucking stop in just america. we need to do all we can to fight transphobes, fight for our rights, fight so we can fucking live safely.

okay opinion time hopefully not controversial in this day and age but. i really got to say this.

to the binary trans folks who have gotten over your transmedicalist phase and now are inclusive and cool, please stop approaching every single nonbinary person and outing yourself as an ex-k*lvin g*rrah ass. like fr you had internalized transphobia and was radicalized by assholes to blame other trans people for societal problems that cis people cause! that shit sucks! and im proud of you for figuring out that it is harmful and doing work to better yourself! welcome to the team!

but us nonbinary folk do not really need to hear about how you would have bullied us in high school, or how you used to be a transmed who blamed us for all of your problems but have gotten over it now. its actually pretty hurtful, especially to the enby folks who then feel like they have to congratulate you on seeing them as human beings and not freaks. those are your feelings and problems to process on your own time and really really do not need to be shared with the class, thanks

And the Unconventional by Jessica Law, which is more abstract, probably based on multiple stories, and focuses more on themes than story.
