Manhwa/Webcomics with really interesting stories and beautiful art but have ick MLs that are still interesting:
Tumblr media
Cry or Better Yet Beg
This male lead is a bird killer that I am told only gets worse as the story progresses. I’m not going to say what he’s going to do to her but it’s horrible, a trigger warning would be necessary for even a watered down explanation. He sees her as a canary in a cage, his canary in his cage if you will. The comic is being made and is still in the earlier stages of the story but there is a web novel out there.
Tumblr media
Kneel Before Me
This is the most developed of the three. The male lead isn’t human and he doesn’t think like us in a lot of ways. He is very obsessed with the female lead. As long as he is on her brain he is happy with that and he’s going for long lasting results (or so he says but I don’t think he really truly wants her hatred). He believes that love doesn’t last but hatred can. He sees her kind of like a pet but, she does have a level of influence over him. He’s also a villain and he’s done some messed up stuff to her. He didn’t start out quite a villain though, more like her dangerous ally(?) and she’s the one thing keeping him in line. This is also based on a novel.
Tumblr media
Betrayal of Dignity
Like the other two THIS. MAN. IS. OBSESSIVE. It’s bad for her ngl. He’s a highly manipulative man as well. These men are basically the same person in most ways. All of the women are smart, though Layla doesn’t seem calculating and she has no power in this thus far unlike the other two who can be calculating and they do at least gain power or start out with it. This female lead is reserved and will do anything for those she loves (also like the fl in KBM). She comes from a (by noble standards) penniless family. As a result of this she marries a Duke who decides he needs to marry a woman in her family (he’s shooting for her though via manipulation). This is most likely because he finds her to be fascinating and he later finds a reason to pursue her in marriage. The leads fall for one another but again, he is manipulating everything always. He is by far the most ambitious of all of the leads I’ve mentioned thus far.
All of the male leads are ick but they’re interesting and the story is interesting and I’m rooting for the female leads so I can’t not read all of these. I thought about adding The Devil and his Sacrifice but I hate the male lead more than I find the story interesting so it just gets an honorable mention.

A real man
Having watched my mom growing up, I quickly found out that she was weak
And having grown up as the only girl in a family of boys, I quickly found out that I, too, was weak
My brothers were rough, rowdy, and boisterous– as all young boys are
They were a joy to be around, and I loved their disorderly ways
But soon, it came to a point where they were aware that I was different. "Because I'm a girl," they said
A girl, I never realized I was a girl before– who would soon be a woman
That revelation shook me, and quickly, it angered me
Because to be a woman is to be soft
Because to be a woman is to always be a little girl
Because to be a woman is to never be a real man
My father, he was a real man and nothing like my mother
Once his car arrived into the driveway, my mother would sigh weakly
He was big compared to her, intimidating to speak to, and had piercing eyes
His fists were harsh, but the words that came out of his mouth did even more damage
His presence was noticeable, and it scared us at times
As rough as he was, he was someone that us children looked up to
By comparison, my mother was delicate, always tripping over her own emotions
When she attempted to speak, we'd all exchange silent glances and laugh– her head was always full of foolish ideas
Be like my mother? No, I'll be a man
I'll be a real man, I won't cry.
I'll be a real man, my word's will hit harder than any other
I'll be a real man, one who can stand on his own and make others obey
But most of all, I'll be the son my dad wished he had.
Will this save me from my mother's fate, I wonder...

A very suspicious little pattern
Call me crazy, but I’ve gotten through two very popular book series and one tv show adaptation (and a friend who read the books of that adaption) and I’ve noticed a little something.
Each series includes a scorn love interest of the badass mc who, if already isn’t abusive to her, does:
kill one of her (could be found) family members
Chase her through all the lands
ignore her demands to leave her the fuck alone or that she has no interest in him anymore
put her through general hell
hurt her or her (found) family members a lot
and yet some how, by the end of the book series, a lot of fans love this very toxic man despite all listed above. They usually list this as their reasons:
he’s conventionally attractive
he’s said that he did it all out of protection of the mc
he has trauma
I don’t get it. Yes someone can have trauma and want to protect someone, but when the want to protect trumps the respect he has for the mc as a person who can make her own decisions; that’s not love. Trauma does not excuse his (usually murderous) actions. Especially when he’s inflicting trauma on the mc and all her friends as well.
I want to know why these fandoms romanticize toxic, borderline abusive men who won’t take no for an answer from someone they supposedly love.
please don’t start a war in the replies; I just genuinely want to know 🥲

Y’know who’s really similar? Chuck Bass and Tom Riddle. Does this quote seem familiar?
“I can be very persuasive.”
Well, both of them have said it. And they both have mommy issues and are both somewhat guilty in their fathers’ deaths.

I just got out of an engagement and honestly, I feel free. Ladies, always trust your instincts before it's too late. Shitty men exist in many forms. Your safety and wellbeing comes first. I pray you all have friends and family around you that you can depend on who support you because that helps a lot, but only you can make those big decisions.

No hate or shade to this girl, but why do y'all want "love" like this? Because this isn't love. It's gon be all fun and games till he start putting his hands on you, and yes I know it's just a "trend" and it's for "jokes" but there's actually adult women and young girls who think this kind of love is acceptable.
I will never understand struggle love or a man being so obsessive over you he gets angry at you and at the smallest shit. Because this ain't the "my panties wet" type of attraction. This that if you ever raise your hand up at me, somebody ain't making out of here alive! Type shit 👏🏾
I just don't understand how women find this shit attractive.
