Began Beginning - Myanmar's first BL
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not So Quick Pitch (or is it a pitch?)
Cause I got a lot of thoughts
8 eps 25 min ea YouTube
Began Beginning feels very much like a first timers BL. Which it pretty much is. There’s a lot of explaining and info dumping and information that we really don’t need about the characters (or the family) especially in the first couple of episodes.
Here's your hlepful breakdown:
Tumblr media
Mani = main boy workaholic, probably gay, acts ace
Hlyan = cute flirty bestie, smoker, closeted gay (for good reason) in love with Mani (becomes main character about 3/4 way through)
Walar = openly gay visitor recovering from a breakup who enters their codependent dynamic and things happen as a result
Thae = Mani & Hlyan’s other bestie, trans
Tumblr media
I was tempted to say this reminded me of early Vietnamese BL, but in actuality what it reminded me of most was the stuff we got from way back in the early 2000's out of Hong Kong, or more recently from the Philippines (I'm thinking about something like The Boy Foretold by the Stars).
There is a grungy sticky authenticity to these works, of which Began Beginning is now a part. They have their own tarnished charm. For all their hiccups in storytelling and absurdities, there is an almost documentary feel to them, partly as a result of the inferior quality of production and filming (which is entirely economic). But that itself also somehow adds to the appeal.
This kind of BL is entirely the opposite of something out of Korea or GMMTV. And if you like that BL best, you aren't gonna like this product. But as much as KBL wins top ranks from me pretty consistently these days, sometimes I enjoy this kind of BL too.
The range itself keeps the genre vibrant and healthy.
Tumblr media
So what is Began Beginning about?
Childhood best friends must come to terms with their own identities and true feelings for each other when a new boy comes to town, putting them into conflict with their families and ultimately, each other.
For the first half of this show there’s a lot of sitting across from each other and talking about life choices over yummy food and then going to tourist spots (mildly boring and not particularly important to the plot).
It changed tone about 2/3 in to be way more of a coming out family drama about forced marriages and homophobia.
And then at the very end it changed again, becoming a full on soap opera with kidnapping, crazy characterization shifts, and rescue missions.
All in all? It was a wild raw creature to consume as a binge. No kisses since this is Myanmar, but a very romantic end, so I think maybe actually worth your time? I'm certainly glad I watched it.
Recommended with lots of reservations but great respect. I’m going with a 7/10.
Tumblr media
There is a particularly important part at the end when Hlyan talks about asking Thae to dress him as a girl to see if he was third gender because he had these feels for another boy. And how unpleasant that made him feel. I thought it was hugely impactful as a window into the boxes same sex loves in modern society forces upon us. No matter what options our culture provides for us, if the boxes are limited we feel limited too. Also, drawing a distinction between gender identity and sexual identity. Lovely bit of storytelling.
(see comments, turns out this is not the first one)

The smell of coffee and books intermingle in the air while a soft jazz song plays over the shop’s speakers. When you asked Jisung if he wanted to do anything while in Busan this morning, he said he wanted to check this place out. It was a very Instagrammable spot, a coffee shop meet bookstore meet vinyl record store. Rows on rows of bookshelves were stocked with numerous books ranging from children’s learning books to historical memoirs. The shelves against the wall were mostly for display purposes, books arranged by the color of their covers versus their title, author, even genre.
Jisung is near the back, checking out the collection of vinyl records they have in store. He has a couple tucked under his arm that he brings over to the record player. He places the over ear headphones on and lets the music fill his ears as he closes his eyes and his fingers drum over the tops of stacked records.
You, however, are seated in a plush mustard yellow velvet sofa, giving the illusion of being deep into a book. You aren’t, though, and instead are lost in your own thoughts, eyes glazed over staring blankly at the opened page. As you replay the previous day’s events in your head, your knee subconsciously begins to bounce under the book you’re supposedly reading.
Why didn’t you kiss him?
The question has been on your mind ever since you got off the Ferris Wheel.
Despite your best efforts to act like everything was okay, Jisung could tell immediately that you felt anxious about something. He would try to make light hearted jokes, make goofy faces at you when you didn’t realize you were straight up staring at him, anything to get you out of your own mind.
Maybe it was just the way Jisung naturally was with people. Maybe he had just been so attuned to you and your moods and thoughts that he could just tell when something was off about you. Maybe you were being obvious.
Sometimes, when you were spacing off, you’d come back to Jisung looking at you with eyes wide with curiosity and concern. You’d feel a lingering touch on you when Jisung would guide you through small crowds. You’d feel him holding your hand for just a couple seconds longer than necessary whenever you reached out for him.
Even now, Jisung’s eyes would find their way back to you in that corner just to make sure you were still there. He takes the headphones off and places his collected records down by the player. He walks over to you and crouches down to sit on the back of his heels, grabbing your attention when he closes the book in your lap. “Come with me.”
You give him the most genuine smile you could muster, one that was toothless and didn’t reach your eyes, and toss the book aside to take his hands as he leads you back to the room with all the vinyl records. There’s a large wooden stand up tic-tac-toe structure in the middle of the room right under the skylight.
“You go first.” Jisung crouches down low to be closer to the wooden board game.
“Okay,” You grab one of the ‘X’ blocks and place it right in the middle of the three by three grid.
Jisung places his own wooden ‘O’ blocks in the bottom left corner. “That wasn’t hard, was it?”
You cock a quizzical brow at him, “What wasn’t hard?” You place your next piece right above your original piece, intending to win by placing your next piece on the bottom row, middle column.
“Making the first move,” He chuckles and eyes you for a moment before placing his piece top left. Jisung knows that your next piece will win the game.
You roll your eyes at his joke, scoffing playfully. You look at the board again, noticing that if you didn’t place your next piece between the O’s he placed on the first column, he would get a match. You completely forget your original plan and place your piece to block his match.
Jisung’s eyes widen at your move. He knows how competitive you are, so he figures you must be really worked up to mess that one up.
“Oh no, fuck!” You realize your mistake almost immediately. You bend down at the knees, feet flat on the ground as you tug on your hair, “I totally missed my chance to win!”
Jisung places a hand flat on your back, rubbing a soothing circle in a clockwise motion, “Hey, it’s okay. The game’s not over yet.”
You sigh heavily and watch him as he places his next wooden piece in the bottom row, center column next to his own piece and underneath your two x’s to block that match. If you hadn’t been so busy worrying about playing defensively, you would have been able to win.
Jisung has set you up again, but he can tell as your eyes scan the last column of the board that has all spaces free, he can tell you’re overthinking it.
Your overthinking leads you to your demise, but also Jisung’s when you choose to block again instead of win, placing your X on the bottom right.
Jisung places his piece defensively this time, choosing to tie instead of letting you win. “Stalemate.” He says with a shrug of his shoulders. He stands back up and holds his hand out to you.
You look up at him with eyes wide, almost pleading. “Again? Rematch?” You grab his hand as an aid up on your feet when he flashes you a lopsided smile.
Tumblr media
Back in your hotel room, Jisung is sitting in front of the wall of windows, examining the new vinyl records he bought at the store while you sit on the table, looking at the backs of books you picked up, too. One self help book and another romance fiction book about a girl, a boy, and a satellite. These would be good reads on the plane ride back home.
You place them into your backpack and notice your old leather bound notebook. You take it out and open it to the page of The Bucket List. It had been a couple of days since you last looked at it. You grabbed a pen and crossed out ‘Send a Message in a Bottle,’ and ‘Ride a Ferris Wheel’. You look over the list and its items, wondering what else you’d be able to cross out.
You figured that this journal was forgotten by your mom, seeing that there were items on the list you knew for certain she had done. You knew for a fact your mom had ridden a Ferris Wheel, the most recent one you were able to cross out. You rode a small ferris wheel at one of those traveling fairs when you were younger with both your parents. ‘Go to a Drive-in Movie Theatre’ is also on the list, but you remember when your mom took both you and Robin out to the Drive-In when her favorite film was showing for its anniversary; stating that your dad was probably tired of watching it over and over again with her.
There were a couple of items that made you wonder how old your mom was when she made the list. Things like, ‘Sneak into a museum after hours’ and ‘Go Skinny Dipping’ make you think that your mother was maybe a teenager? Early 20s? You smile to yourself, recalling that your mother was always just a young free spirit.
“Jisung?” You call over to him.
He looks up from the third and final vinyl record he bought, turning his head to face you, “Hmm?”
You lean forward in your seat towards him, bringing your face nearly eye level with his. “Let’s do something on the list tonight.”
Jisung nods and places his new purchases on the table you were sitting at. “Well, of course. That’s what we’re here for, right?” He smiles and takes your notebook into his lap. “What were you thinking?”
“Maybe we could take a cooking class? I saw an advertisement for a couple's cooking classes on the way back from Lotte World.”
“Or,” Jisung brings the book up to his face, covering everything from his nose bridge down. He raises a brow at you, eyes peering over the pages, “We could Go Skinny Dipping.”
Tumblr media
You and Jisung had found your way to the beach after eating and drinking at a local wing and beer eatery off the beach. The alcoholic buzz in your system is enough to feel like you’re floating. When you walk, your steps veer a little closer to him, when he says something mildly funny, you’d laugh a little louder than normal and playfully swat at his arm.
Jisung takes your tote bag from your arm and takes the blanket, spreading it out on the sand. You both take your shoes off, and stuff your socks in them to feel the soft and fine sand under your feet while you sit on the blanket. He slips his hoodie off of himself and holds it out for you to put it on, which you do, hugging the soft fabric close to you.
It’s pretty dark out, most of the light coming from the street and the restaurants and shops. You;re a little bit away from all of that as well as the crowded part of the beach. There weren't a lot of people around at all, just the cars passing by on the main road behind you.
You take a deep breath in and inhale the saltiness of the ocean breeze as you try to calm the fast thumping of your heart. It had taken you a lot of self-convincing to go along with the whole skinny dipping idea.
On one hand, you like Jisung.
You’ve kind of felt yourself gravitating towards him more so than in just a friendly manner. Just this afternoon when you picked up the blanket Jisung always kept in his car to bring to the beach, you checked your reflection in the mirror. You wore something very casual, a white loose button up, a black tank top and some loose linen tan trousers. Your hair was half up-half down, makeup minimal given the circumstances. Just a little bit of blush and gloss. All of this was because you admitted to yourself that you had feelings for a stranger you met on the street on your first day in Korea.
When you applied your blush, picked out your outfit, even when you combed your hair, you wondered, “Will Jisung think I’m trying too hard?”
Skinny Dipping would be a step forward in whatever was transpiring between you two. And it wasn’t like he hadn’t seen you naked before.
On the other hand, you like Jisung.
It’s been years since your last relationship, years since your last anything. You’ve mainly been focused on getting up, going to work, eating, and showering for the better part of those last couple of years. You’ve made up countless excuses of why you couldn’t go out with Robin and the rest of your friends, whether that be to the bar or just on a small shopping day.
You just started getting your bearings straight on your life again and while you’ve definitely had fun the past week, catching feelings for a man on a whole different continent was not something you could have ever anticipated.
And that’s what’s holding you back. There’s a part of you that wants to protect yourself from everything that’s yet to come, but the other part tells you that you didn’t come to Korea just to play it safe.
Jisung has his feet in the sand, both legs bent at the knee in front of him, back curved slightly with his forearms resting on his knees. He observes you for a moment as you stare off into the dark ocean, lost in thought for however many times you’ve done so today; he’s not sure, he’s lost count.
As much as an overthinker you are, Jisung is just as much, but more-so on how other people perceive him. He hides it well behind a small ego well suited for a flirtatious bartender, but its only because of his people-pleasing tendencies. He feels confident when people seem to like him. It’s not him seeking attention – or maybe it is–, it’s him and his fear of letting people down.
Right now, he’s afraid he’s let you down.
He’s replaying everything he’s said and done in his head since you approached him on the street with a bouquet of sunflowers. Maybe he was coming off too strong, maybe you didn’t like him as much as he thought you did. He thinks, maybe that one night was just a fluke, in which if that were the case – Damn.
He fucked up.
But you were still here with him… You slowly stand up beside him, taking a few steps towards the ocean. You stretch your arms above your head, trying to shake off all the thoughts that have been running rampant in your mind. The cold breeze is enough to sober you up.
‘Go Skinny Dipping’, he repeats your words, the bucket list item, in his mind. He’s learned how daring yet indecisive you can be during the past week. He knows that sometimes, you need a little push.
Behind you, Jisung stands up, keeping his distance from you for now. He grabs the back of his shirt from over his shoulders and tugs the fabric over his head. He lets it fall onto the blanket, soundlessly. It’s not until you hear him unbuckling his belt do you get a hint of what he’s up to.
“Wh-what are you–”
“You can look, I don’t mind.” Jisung says it with a smirk on his lips. He knows you won’t.
He’s right, by the way, your head is firmly stuck staring at the ocean. Were you curious? Yes. Of course, but you couldn’t move.
Behind you, Jisung drops his pants and boxer briefs. He rubs his hands together, cold, but also mentally hyping himself up for the waters he was about to plunge himself into. “Gaja!” He runs past you, your eyes widening, and into the ocean. He lets out a low deep wail, goosebumps quickly forming on his skin.
Jisung submerges himself completely in the water, hands forming into fists. When he comes up, he turns towards you and flips his head back so his sopping wet hair stays out of his face. His hand runs over his face, wiping the salt water from his eyes. “Y/N! Come on in!”
Your face reddens watching him. The way the water was sliding down his body in the dark light causes you to subconsciously lick your lips. You cup your hand by your mouth, calling out to him. “How’s the water?”
Jisung brings his feet up off the sandy bottom, treading water while his arms stroke backwards. “Amazing! Not cold at all.” His voice carries over to you, loud, through chattering teeth.
You laugh and go back to the blanket in the sand. You slip Jisung’s zip up hoodie off of your shoulders, then turn back towards him. “Close your eyes Jisung!”
“They’re closed!”
You unbutton your oversized white dress shirt and let it fall on top of the hoodie. You look towards Jisung to see both his eyes open and shift your weight onto your right hip, sighing loudly and dramatically, your shoulders motioning up and down. “Han Jisung, turn around!”
He laughs from his chest and turns his body towards the horizon. “Yes ma’am.”
You eye his form for a moment longer than necessary, just to make sure he wasn’t going to turn around. You cross your arms over your torso and peel your black tank top over your head. You pull at the drawstring of your linen pants and let it fall to the ground. You step out of them and nudge it over to the rest of your clothes with your foot.
You rub at your arms, crossed over your torso, feeling the chill of the night breeze on your skin. You squeeze your arms firmly while you take a deep breath in. As you exhale, you calm your nerves and reach behind you to unclasp your bra and shrug it onto the ground. One arm quickly goes across your breasts and your free hand hooks a finger into the waistband of your underwear, bringing it under your hips and over your thighs to let it drop onto the blanket.
You slowly walk over to the shoreline, the water touching the tips of your toes. You shriek at the cold temperature and Jisung almost turns back in response. Instead, he calls out to you. “Are you okay?”
“You lied, the water is freezing.”  As he laughs, you take a couple steps into the water and your teeth begin to chatter. “I’m coming over, don’t turn around!” Steadily, you walk deeper into the ocean until the water comes to mid-chest and you’re behind Jisung.
Your eyes fall on the tattoo on his back. It’s the first time you’re seeing it in its entirety. You’ve seen the top of it peeking over the back collar of his shirt, but other than that, you didn’t really know what it looked like. He spoke about it once when you were getting your own tattoo back on your second day in Korea. An abstract line.
Jisung’s back tenses as your fingers ghost over the design. You start at the middle of his shoulders and run your fingers down, his back straightening with the action. It’s not all solid black, if anything it looks like a trail of smoke, so there were grays in certain areas too. It curved in arbitrary angles and random angles, it made it look very organic and surely one of a kind.
“A friend told me once to keep going,” Jisung’s voice is deep and soft. It takes you by surprise and you retract your hand as if you were burned by it.
“To.. keep going?” You repeat after him, confused.
Jisung nods and hangs his head down low. He brings his hands out in front of him to restlessly play with the water. “To persevere.”
You nod once, though he can’t see you, and bring back your hand to the tattoo.
“He always told me that the path may not be straight, but it will lead you to the destination as long as you’re determined.” Jisung smiles solemnly and when you place your palm fully against his back reassuringly, he relaxes into your touch.
“Don’t look yet, please.” This is probably the fourth time you’ve said that, but you’re nervous regardless of the fact that he has seen every inch of you already. This was different though, you felt emotionally vulnerable, which in turn made you feel physically vulnerable, too. You reach for his hand and he gladly laces your fingers together. He rubs soothing circles on the back of your hand in the water as you stand next to him.
Your lips press together, trying to focus on your breathing to lower your heart rate. You swear you could hear it in your chest. You take a peek through the corner of your eyes to see if he was looking. Thankfully, he wasn’t. You swallow the lump in your throat. “The moon looks beautiful from here.”
Jisung snickers and you’re quick to nudge his arm with your shoulder. “You’re so cheesy.” When he doesn’t stop, you roll your eyes and elbow him again. “Okay, go ahead. Say it.”
“Not more beautiful than you,” He chuckles immediately and even though you knew the exact words that would come from his mouth and the exact way he ended up delivering the line, you blush all the way to the tips of your ears and down your neck.
“You must get so many tips bartending, you’re too smooth with it.” You scoff.
Jisung shrugs and frees his hand from yours, only to wrap his arm around you and bring you close. “I mean it.”
You chew on your bottom lip, the butterflies in your stomach doing somersaults again. This is exactly what you were afraid of.
You stare off into the horizon, where the sky meets the sea and let your mind start to race at all of the reasons why your stomach shouldn’t be doing flips, why your heart shouldn’t be skipping in beats, why you shouldn’t feel giddy whenever Han Jisung looks right into your eyes; into your soul.
Through your silence, Jisung senses your anxiety. He looks down at you from the corner of his eyes, still respecting the fact that you didn’t want him looking at you. When you don’t even notice him blatantly staring, he gets worried.
Screw this, he thinks to himself and he steps in front of you, blocking your sight of the horizon. You look down at yourself and he quickly takes your chin in his hand, tilting your head up to look at him. “What is going on in that head of yours, Y/N?”
“You can’t do that.”
His brows furrow in confusion. “Do what?”
“Do this whole thing, Jisung!” You shut your eyes tightly, both your hands grasping at his arm. You mean to push him away from you, but you can’t, you don’t want to, not really. “We can’t do this!”
Jisung shakes his head in disbelief. This whole time he’s let you set the pace. He’s let you make your own decisions, to leave it up to you to decide what you two were, but if he didn’t say what he wanted to now, he’d regret it. “But why? Why can’t we?!” His voice is a little more stern. He wants answers, he wants definitive answers.
“Jisung, this isn’t real.”
You weren’t making any sense to him. “What do you mean this isn’t real?.” He drops his hand from  your chin to reach for your hand. He places his hand firmly on his chest. “I’m here and so are you, “ At this, he tightens his hold over your hand. “We’re both standing here, and maybe I’ve gotten everything wrong,” His brows are knit together further than before, hoping he could convey the emotions he had been feeling. “But for me, it’s real, Y/N.”
Your eyes shut and you fight the tears. You’re not sure if you’re crying because you’re happy that your feelings are reciprocated or if they’re from feeling so frustrated that Jisung just doesn’t understand why you two shouldn’t be having these feelings.
“What don’t you get?!” You raise your voice just slightly. You want to run, you want to hide, both of which are easier than what you’re doing, confronting your feelings head on.
Jisung sighs in frustration. He brings both of his hands to cup your face gently. He cranes his neck downward, placing his forehead against yours. “I don’t get why you can’t look at me. I don’t get why you’re dancing around the obvious attraction. I don’t get why –”
You jerk your head away, a bold action, and the words that come out of your mouth sting even yourself. “Jisung, you don’t want me. I’m fucked up.” Here the tears fall freely. You’re self sabotaging, you know it, but you have to try and push him away. He has to know. “I’m broken,” Your voice lowers and it’s a struggle for Jisung to hear you over the waves crashing around you both. “I’m not something you can fix.”
Jisung just scoffs at your feeble attempt to dissuade him. “You think I’m not broken?”
You stay quiet. It wasn’t fair of you to assume he didn't have his own problems and struggles.
Jisung strokes your hair, pushing a stray lock behind your ear. You lean into his touch, turning your head back towards him. He was so gentle to you, always so patient. It made all this so hard. "I’m not trying to fix you, Y/N. I’m not asking you to be perfect or even okay everyday. I’m just asking you to give us a shot. Why can’t we just try?”
You abruptly open your eyes. You scowl at him with a tear stained, but your hands over his are gentle. Your face and your words mean to push him away, but everything else in your being wants to pull him in.  “Because – Because in one week, I will be back home, Jisung.”
Jisung closes his lids half way and he stares at your lips. “So why…” His voice trails off and he places his lips on your cheek bone. “Are we,” Another kiss on your cheek. “Wasting,” A kiss at the corner of your lips. “Our time?”
He pulls back and looks you in the eyes. You’re still glaring, but he searches for any single sign that you wanted this too.
The sign you give him is more than just a look.
You close your eyes and plant the tips of your toes in the sand as you lean up to cover your lips with his. Your hands travel upwards from his chest to snake around his neck, pulling him closer.
You want him. You need him.
You were so stupid for trying to deny this.
Jisung’s left hand leaves your face to steady you, sliding down your frame onto your hip. He brings you closer, sharing that need and want you feel. His nails dig into your hip as you pull him closer. He pulls his lips away from yours, peppering your jawline with kisses.
Tumblr media
Neither you nor Jisung know how you got back into your hotel room. It was a blur. You ran and grabbed your clothes and covered yourself with the blanket while Jisung hurriedly put on his pants and belt and his hoodie.
There wasn’t a moment you lost physical contact. At street corners, he held you against him. In the elevator, he leaned against the wall, you between his legs as he tenderly kissed and nipped at your lips.
“What happens when I go back home?” You whispered.
“We’ll worry about that when we get there.” He reassured you.
He has you pressed against your hotel room door, face buried in the crook of your neck when your hands roam his body to look for the key to the door.
“Key,” You manage out while he continues to suck at the tender area where your neck and shoulder meet.  Jisung reaches into the back pocket of his jeans and hands his wallet to you.
You laugh at his inability to do it himself and take his wallet, finding the hotel room key. You turn around to slide the door key into the reader and Jisung once again holds you flush against him.
His arousal is extremely evident and you can’t open the door quicker.
Through the door, you toss your clothes aside and the blanket drops from your body. You work quickly to take Jisung’s hoodie back off before he crouches low to lift you easily by your thighs. Your lips latch hungrily onto his, battling for dominance within the kiss. Each suck, each bite, you return, even as your back hits the plush mattress.
Jisung litters your face with kisses, trailing down your neck and collarbone. His hand squeezes at your left breast as his mouth takes in your right before he leaves both to continue his kisses down your stomach. He places himself between your legs, kneeling on the floor. He tosses one leg of yours over his shoulder and kisses your wet pussy over your underwear.
You whimper in response and your hands automatically find his head. You want to keep him there until the knot in your abdomen comes undone. It’s like he knows what you’re thinking when he hooks your panties in one of his fingers and moves them to the side, flattening his tongue against your wet heat.
You let out a quivery exhale through your lips, tugging at Jisung’s damp hair.
Jisung closes his eyes and focuses his attention on your clit, sucking the hardened nub and pinning your hips down when you attempt to buck up at him. Your hold on his hair is so tight that when he momentarily takes himself off of you, his head tilts backwards. At that moment, he looks at your face and notices your tightly closed eyes.
Your eyes flutter open to see him staring at you. The blush on your face deepens the longer he’s hovering over you, just admiring your face and your reactions. Jisung climbs on top of you, placing a kiss on your forehead. That alone sends shivers down your spine.
There’s a moment between the two of you, no words spoken. Just a look exchanged that is worth more than words can express. You lean up and wrap your arms around his neck to pull him in for a kiss. He kisses you back with just as much passion and when you pull away, you’re both breathless. HIs hand cradles your jaw and neck gently, thumb running across your swollen pink lips. On instinct, you bite your bottom lip and Jisung smiles in return.
He leans back on his knees on the bed, tugging your panties off in the process. Jisung steps off the bed, aiming to grab a condom, but you sit up and grab his wrist firmly, tugging him back towards you. You look up at him on your knees and slowly shake your head.
Jisung raises a brow, not quite fully understanding, but when your fingers glide over the buckle of his belt, undoing it followed by his zipper, he can’t help but to watch you through half lidded eyes.
His pants drop to the floor with the clang of his belt. You lay back down, head on the bed’s pillow. Jisung crawls after you like a moth attracted to a flame. Jisung dips his head down to place another kiss against your lips.
You reach a hand between your bodies and grasp at his hard length, catching Jisung by surprise. He inhales sharply through his nose, body tensing over you. You smile coyly and stroke him once, twice, and the way his face contorts: eyes shut tightly, brows knit together, his lips slightly parted; you understand just why Jisung likes to watch you.
You can feel him growing harder in your palm, vein throbbing against your thumb. He buries his head in your neck, his forearms on either side of you bearing most of his weight. “Fuck,” He chokes out, hot breath against your shoulder.
“Me?” You ask with a playful tone.
Jisung chuckles and pulls himself back up to take a look at you. “Please.”
You let go of his hard and swollen cock  as he positions himself between your legs, thighs coated with your arousal. He runs the tip against your folds and you tremble with anticipation while he steels himself for what’s to come. He presses his hips forward, the head of his dick pushes past your folds and into the warmth of your pussy.
The feeling is so euphoric. You can feel him enter you, stretching you out with every inch he pushes deeper. His breath is shaky against your lips, his face right above yours as the both of you watch each other’s expressions of pure ecstasy.
“Fuck,” you hiss when he bottoms out.
Jisung reaches for your open palm by your head and you’re quick to interlock your fingers together. “Good girl,” He whispers. You squeeze his hand, signaling for him to move. He does, moving his hips back and forth slowly against you. Your eyes roll back, the feeling almost too much to handle. You can’t believe how good it feels. The pace he sets is steady, thrusts deep, your chest bouncing with the rhythm of his hips. “So good, so pretty,” He says between grunts.
He’s determined to hear you moan and you’re determined to keep quiet. He pulls his hips back and thrusts into you hard and deep. Deep enough that it causes your mouth to drop open. The next thrust makes you moan. Every thrust after that is backed with a sense of purpose: to make you moan over and over again.
Your breathing is erratic now, your chest heaving up and down visibly. You lock your ankles around Jisung’s waist, pulling him closer. You need him closer. He pulls out of you and tears prick at your eyes. “Ji, why?”
A chuckle rumbles from his chest.
You pout at him  and you bet you look real pathetic, eyes watery from just the lack of him inside you, but Jisung doesn’t see that at all; you’re beautiful. He turns you on your side and positions himself behind you and slips back in. “Ooo,” You say through grit teeth, enjoying the new angle.
His arms wrap tightly around you, pulling you close to his body. The new position was intimate, especially with your back pressed against his chest, one of his hands tenderly at your neck. His hips snap into you over and over again and your mouth hangs open. Jisung takes the opportunity to place his two fingers into your mouth, just testing the waters there. Immediately, you close your lips and suck on his digits.
You’re not sure why – you were never this adventurous with your past partners –, but that specific action coupled with the new deeper angle made your walls squeeze around him. He takes his fingers out of your mouth with a pop, rocking into you faster.
“Jisung,” His name spills from your mouth and your head rolls back against him, grabbing onto his arm across your torso.
He knows you're close. He can tell.
Jisung unwraps an arm from around you and hoists your leg up high in the ditch of his elbow, spreading you open wider.
“Ji– Fuck. ” You curse, so close to unraveling.
“That’s my girl,” By this point, he’s picked up on how you subconsciously squeeze around him whenever he praises you, “Come with me, baby. Just a little more.”
You fight the urge to shut your eyes and he tugs at the back of your hair to angle your head towards him. You look behind you to him from the corner of your eyes. Jisung nods, his expression an exact mirror of your own.
Hair messy. Eyes glazed over in neediness and pleasure. Lips dry and swollen from kisses and open mouth panting.
The next words that come out of your mouth surprise Jisung, “Cum in me.”
“Are you sure?” “Ye–”
He pulls out almost all the way and thrusts – no, pounds into you. He does this over and over again until he’s close, you’re trying your best to hold out for him. With one final thrust, you see stars, body feeling like it's floating as he finishes inside of you, warm cum painting your walls.
Jisung stays sheathed inside of you while the room is filled with heavy panting, the both of you trying to catch your breath. Jisung places a tender kiss against your shoulder. You look back at him and offer him a sleepy smile. “Jisung, you can stop sleeping on the floor.”
He laughs behind you and pulls you close against him, draping his arms around your waist.
Tumblr media
When you wake up, you find yourself covered in the white hotel sheets, the sun coming through the floor-to-ceiling windows, warm against your skin. The heat rises to your face when you recall last night. A huge smile finds its way onto your lips even recalling the 'request' you asked of him. Good thing your best friend convinced you to go on the pill three years ago.
You look around, trying to find where Jisung went off to. It takes you a moment for your eyes to adjust, but when you do, you find Jisung out on the balcony.
You reach for your phone on the floor and snap a picture, wanting to remember the man you met in Korea forever. Scrolling through the apps on your phone, you bite on your lower lip in hesitation but decide to post it anyway.

#075 - The Best News of Last Week - February 27, 2023
🐈 - Do you know Gacek, the most famous cat in Poland?
Hey there! It's Erica here, and I'm excited to share with you some of the most uplifting news stories of the week. In a world that can sometimes seem filled with negativity, it's important to focus on the positive and find inspiration in the good things that are happening around us. Let's dive into this week's collection of wholesome news!
1. 8-year-old boy missing from Washington state for 8 months is found in Missouri
Tumblr media
A boy who has been missing from Washington state since at least mid-June was found safe in Missouri, the FBI office in Seattle said Tuesday.
Authorities said 8-year-old Breadson John had vanished by June 17, when a welfare check at his home in Vancouver, Washington, just across the state line from Oregon, determined his absence.
2. World’s biggest four-day working week trial hailed a ‘major breakthrough’
Tumblr media
The trial of a four-day working week in the UK, the largest of its kind in the world, has been celebrated as a “major breakthrough” after the majority of participating companies announced their intention to continue with the shorter week.
The trial, which ran for six months from June last year, required firms to reduce their working hours for all employees by 20 per cent without any reduction in wages.
At least 56 out of the 61 companies confirmed they will continue with the four-day working week, while 18 of them have made the policy a permanent change.
3. This dying baby turtle survived after drifting 4,000 miles to Ireland
Tumblr media
A family strolling on a beach in Ireland earlier this month spotted a seafarer that had washed up on the rocks. Less than a year old, the female loggerhead survived a months-long journey across the Atlantic Ocean, teeming with dangers including predators and plastic. Although she was still alive, the turtle was dehydrated, massively underweight.
They called her Cróga, the Irish word for “brave.” After finding Cróga in the northwestern part of Ireland, the family called a few groups that rehabilitate whales and dolphins. There, Cróga’s rehabilitation began.
4. A Hernando toddler found alive after being missing for nearly 24 hours
Tumblr media
A 2-year-old boy was lost in the Florida woods for 24 hours. Everyone feared the worst. Hundreds of volunteers came out to look for him.
One volunteer came to a fork in a field: right or left? He trusted his gut, went left and soon heard a whimper. It was the little boy, crying but in good health.
I found something interesting while reading this article: If you are part of a SAR team looking for a child to not only call their name but also that they aren’t in trouble. Young children sometimes hide from potential rescuers because they’re afraid they’ll get in trouble.
5. German man remains free of the HIV virus years after receiving stem cell treatment.
Tumblr media
Researchers are announcing that a 53-year-old man in Germany has been cured of HIV.
Referred to as "the Dusseldorf patient" to protect his privacy, researchers said he is the fifth confirmed case of an HIV cure. Although the details of his successful treatment were first announced at a conference in 2019, researchers could not confirm he had been officially cured at that time. Today, researchers announced the Dusseldorf patient still has no detectable virus in his body, even after stopping his HIV medication four years ago.
6. South Korea court recognises same-sex couple rights for first time
Tumblr media
A South Korean court has for the first time recognised the rights of a same-sex couple in the country. In a landmark ruling, the Seoul High Court found a government health insurer did owe coverage to the spouse of a customer after the firm withdrew it when it found out the pair were gay.
The men had held a wedding ceremony in 2019, but same-sex marriage is not recognised in South Korea.
Activists say the ruling is a leap forward for LGBT rights in the country.
7. A fat cat has become the top-rated tourist attraction in a Polish city with a perfect 5-star average on Google Maps
Tumblr media
A fat black-and-white cat called Gacek has become the top-rated tourist attraction in the Polish city of Szczecin.
Gacek has a perfect five-star rating on Google Maps. His name, pronounced gats-ek, means "long-eared bat" in Polish. Gacek first drew international attention when he appeared in a YouTube documentary in 2020

☕️📓 cafe au lait !! ┊͙✧˖*°࿐
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
based on a dream i had the other night weeks ago. happy (late) valentine's day. fem!reader. 2,65k.
In the modern age, it was no secret that malls were dying. Late stage capitalism was at play according to most people, and some store fronts remained empty due to how high rent got. Donghyuck saw many stores come and go in his years there, it was sad to see people he loved as neighbors and that took care of him as a child disappear before his very eyes. Some spaces were replaced by new owners because despite the dying mall industry they lived in a tourist area that got hit hard around holiday breaks and on the weekends. It just wasn’t the same anymore. Though, his family’s restaurant still remained in their spot…
It had been twenty years at this point. He had been here for that same amount of time only moving here from South Korea at the age of two. He had graduated college, yet his bachelor’s in music got him nowhere so far… and here he was yet again, working for his parents just like he did when he was teenager in order to make a living.
“Donghyuck, stop slouching against the door way.” His mom whined to him. “It’s bad for your back and that’s not how you attract customers.”
“Mom, it’s a Tuesday at 2 in the afternoon.” He fixed his posture. “No one is coming right now and I’m tired. Why do I have to wear a white button up, slacks and a tie? I use to only wear black.”
“You’re a young man now.” She cooed at him while patting his cheek, lovingly. “And you’re handsome. Plus, don’t you remember in high school how you use to flirt with all those girls and they’d keep coming back? Even those older ladies found you charming… We got more business because of you and it’s about time you get in a relationship. People will come, just be patient.”
“I was doing that for the tips.” He blushed. “I’m perfectly fine by myself by the way.”
His mother rolled her eyes at him before patting him on his shoulder and walking back into the restaurant. He sat back down on the stool at the entrance that had a podium next to it with menus staked on top.
The mall remained relatively bleak, until he saw a group of girls come in that linked arms with another while smiling and giggling to one another as they walked into one of the stores. Judging by the bags they had, they were came from school and he guessed college just because it was too early for high school kids and they looked around late teens to early twenties.
It wasn’t long before they came out with paper bags on their arms and then he noticed, they were coming his way. He got flustered and stood up quickly before they had made it over to him. He grabbed the menus beside him.
“Is it okay to get a table for three?” One of them asked.
It was the one that stood out to him most with the brightly colored soft coral hair. She was the tallest of the group of girls but still quite short in comparison to him. However, her baggy clothes made her appear much smaller.
“Uh, yeah.” He blushed. “Follow me.”
He lead them to a table before giving them their menus and running off to go get the water they asked for. Little did he know at that time, it’d become a weekly occurrence that that girl would show up with shopping bags and her friends to eat. He always remembered her order but never her friends… She always got the tteokbokki. If he was lucky, she’d come by sometimes without her friends and that’s really when he got to know her… He finally found out her name and that she was only two years younger than him and studying music at a college nearby. He felt his heart flutter a bit in his chest as he fell in love little by little.
She came by one Thursday afternoon and Donghyuck smiled once he had seen her. She had a bag on her arm and a cup in the other.
“Y/n!” He said, excited. “Same as always?”
“How can you remember my order but never my friends?” She questioned. “I’m just messing with you. But I’m getting kinda tired, do you have any suggestion.”
“Oh my god, my mom makes the best kimchi jjigae.” He hummed.
“I’m not the biggest fan of cabbage but for you… I’ll try it. To go please.”
There went that flutter in his chest again.
“Coming right up.” He nodded.
He ran off to the kitchen to give his mom the ticket before coming back out to talk to the girl. He stared down at the big brown bag that was on the floor.
“Every time I see you, you always have a big, brown shopping bag…” He laughed. “What do you even get?”
“Oh! It’s nothing.” The girl brushed it off.
“If it was nothing it wouldn’t be there.” He scoffed. “C’mon show me! Please! I’m so curious.”
“Ugh, this is so embarrassing…”
She bent over before rummaging through the bag before she revealed some albums in here hand.
“Is that Shinee?” The boy asked.
“Yeah,” She blushed before putting them back in the bag. “New Jeans, Red Velvet and WEi too.”
“No way!” He gasped. “I’ve loved Shinee since I was kid! I still have one of their albums my mom bought me as a kid.”
“You know them?”
“I’m literally Korean, Y/n…”
“I know but that doesn’t mean you like k-pop! And frankly, I thought you’d be weirded out by me liking it.”
“Do you hear what we play in here? Do you hear that? It sounds like Lion Heart by Girl’s Generation playing right now. Anyway, who’s your favorite?”
“For Shinee? Taemin but Red Velvet, I love Yeri and I love everyone for New Jeans and WEi.”
“Taemin’s my favorite too actually. I always wanted to be like him as a kid. Not to brag, but I auditioned for SM entertainment.”
The girl raised an eyebrow at him almost as an ‘oh, really?’
“I’m taking you didn’t get in?” She tilted her head.
The boy clutched his chest and acted wounded, “That hurt! You’re so mean! For your information, I did get accepted!”
“Why are you here?” She asked.
“I was thirteen, not stupid. I just thought about all I had to give up and I love music and attention and everything but I don’t think I deal with idol life. Being stalked and having such a strict beauty standard pushed on me. I was good.”
A middle aged woman came out of the kitchen with a bag full of food. She saw the two talking to each other and smiling. She saw the way her son looked at the girl and smiled herself before approaching slowly.
“Sorry to interrupt. I have kimchi jjigae for you.” She spoke slowly before backing away.
The girl grabbed the takeout bag off the podium.
“Thank you, Mrs. Lee.” She smiled. “It was nice talking to you, Haechan. See you later.”
The boy watched as the girl walked away, not even aware of the smile on his face. He moved his attention over to his mom who was also smiling.
“What?” His expression dropped.
“You like her…” She sang, happily.
“Mom…” He sighed.
“You like her, you like her. My little Donghyuckie has a crush.”
She continued to sing behind her son as he ran off into the back to escape her pestering.
The following week, he saw her again. He was sitting reading before he noticed her coming in his direction. She was holding a drink, looked like same from last week as she also took a bite out of a cookie in the other hand.
"Are you cheating on me?" He gasped as he acted offended as soon as the girl got closer.
"What? Just because I'm eating something different?" She snickered.
"What even is that?" He asked, curiously.
"Iced vanilla latte."
"I like them too, especially from the little shop from around the corner."
"That's where I got this actually... I love their cookies too."
She ended up promising the boy to come by a little later once she was done looking around. It was the only way he'd let go of his fake work. Really, it was just an excuse to be able to see her again as soon as possible. Her coming every week at least once was an excuse to see him but he didn't have to know that.
She came the next week, a cookie from the shop in her bag as well as iced vanilla latte for her friend in one hand another drink for herself in the other. She almost skipped along to find her way to Haechan. She smiled to herself as she saw the boy reading a book once again as he sat at the podium. She hid the drink for him behind her back before making her way over to him.
"Y/n, it's nice to see you again." He chuckled as he closed the book."
"Surpise!" She brought the drink out to hand to him. "To make up for cheating on you last week."
"Oh! Thank you!" He beamed. "What do you have this week?
"Butterfly pea tea with lemonade."
"Pea tea?"
"Don't be childish. It's good for your eyes and it taste good. And it's coool because it turns pink when mixed with lemonade?"
"And why would you need all that?"
"I'm blind basically."
"You never wear glasses though"
"I don't think I look good in them..."
"I doubt that. I think you'd look pretty cute in them."
He only realized what he said out loud after the fact. His expression fell before he turned his attention to the girl standing in front of him that had a blank look as she blushed.
"i'm sorry." He apologized, blushing himself.
"No, no! It's fine!" She reassured him. "I'll see you in a bit."
He waved goodbye at the girl as she rushed feeling the fact that maybe it was not fine. She didn't come back even though he waited all evening for her to come back. It left him broken hearted as he let his mouth get ahead of his brain once again which may of or may not have messed up everything going for him. He didn't sleep that night.
Donghyuck waited for her to come back daily but it wasn't until that following Tuesday he saw her once again. He saw her go into the album store with the friends she always came with. He felt adernline rush through his body before he asked his mom for his break.
He rushed pass the store th girl was in just to make it to the cafe around the corner and bought three packs of cookies. He started to work up the courage to go in the store to talk to the girl. He finally took a deep breath before walking calmy into the store. Her back was turned to him and so were her friends' It started getting warmer so she wasn't in her usual baggy attire. She had half of her tied up with a pink ribbon and wore a frilly dress that matched. He thought she looked so pretty, even if it was just from behind. He snapped out of it and apporached her before tapping her on the shoulder.
"Hyuck..." She mumbled once she turned around and saw the boy.
"Um, hi, you look really pretty." He blurted. "Sorry, that's not why I'm here... Can I talked you by the water fountian outside?"
"Thank you and um, yeah, sure."
He nodded, trying not to break a sweat in that moment. He had the cookies hidden behind his back the whole time. He took a step back and allowed her to go in front, following right behind. The both of them stood across from each other in front of the fountain. They looked at each other for a moment for the boy broke eye contact with her just to stare at his feet.
"Hey, I'm really sorry about last week again... And just now too." He admitted. "Anyway, the cafe was having a buy three get three free special so here are some of those cookies you like."
He handed them to her, "My break is over but I hope you like them. It was nice to see you again."
He walked away too quickly before she could say anything. The girl's friends came out of the store shortly after the encounter.
"What was that about?" One asked as she put her bags down beside her.
"I think he likes me..." She answered.
"I've been telling you that for weeks now."
"No, but a lot..."
It took a moment for her joy the register at that statement. He liked her... When does that ever happen. she got so excited that she started to gush to her friends about the boy. Then she realized she needed to talk to him again but of course, there was issue of his job...
She told her friends to just go home without her that evening. She waited around until they had to start closing for the night. She sat somewhere she could go unseen as he did his work. Once she saw him start putting up chairs she went toward the restaurant. His back was turned but he heard the footsteps.
"Sorry, we are closed for the night." He sighed as he put up more chairs.
"You say that word to much, you know?" She hummed.
He turned around, "Y/n? What are you doing here?"
"I waited. You didn't let me say 'thank you' and I guess I realized I have more than just that to say..."
The girl took a step closer to the boy which only allowed for a few inches of space. The boy look visibly nervous as the girl got closer.
"So thank you for the cookies," She started. "Also, I like you, Hyuck. I think you like me too, am I right?"
"I-I-" He stuttered.
"I think this game went on too long." She pouted. "Now, use your words please."
"Yes, I do... I do like you."
The music change to a slow song all of sudden. The girl looked up with a smile.
"I think that's a sign. Don't you?" She asked to which he nodded. "So, will you dance with me?"
She extended her hand out for him to take which he did but not without hesitation. He ended up taking the lead right after. One hand intertwined with her own as his other hand rested on her waist and her own on his arm. She rested her head on his chest, able to hear the rapidness of his heartbeat that she cheekily smiled at before his chin came to rest on top of her head. After the song was over, the two came to hold each other's hand as they stared at each other.
"Man, I've wanted to do this for weeks." He confessed as he cupped the girl's jaw gently.
He bent down to connect each other's lips to one another. Softly, they touched and it felt like forever in those few moment with another. It was like passion coming out of hiding and being expolisive and like all the emotion started to felt at it's fullness. She deepen the kiss as she wrapped her arms around her new lover's neck in an effort to bring him closer as well as deepen the kiss.
The two young adults were unaware of the mom that was upstairs messing with the radio once she accidentally walked in on their conversation and quietly exiting, unnoticed. She smiled at work through the cameras after playing cupid.

I’m so glad that you had a lovely time in Tokyo!! Bring me in your suitcase next time? /j <3
What’s your advice for travelling on your own???
This is probably going to be a long one, so I apologize in advance 😅 Here's some advice that has helped me on my solo trips to Korea and Japan:
• Do research on where you're going. See what's allowed in the country (especially if you're bringing medications). Read up on other people's travel experiences in that country. Know what kind of transportation you'll need to use there and how to access it (trains, buses, taxis, rental cars). Make sure you have a bit of an idea of what to expect when you get there, so culture shock won't hit you hard.
• Have foreign currency *before* you leave. Chances are you'll need it as soon as you land at your destination.
• Make sure you have a power adapter/wall charger in case they have different outlets. A back up phone charger and pocket wifi is also a must!
• Find points of interest that you might enjoy visiting and make a private Google map with all those places marked. Then if you're in an area that happens to have a lot of your interests in it, you can tackle them all at once. This was my map for Tokyo! I made two separate lists; one for places I wanted to visit, and one for restaurants I wanted to try.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately I didn't get to visit all of these because my trip was only 5 days. But it gave me a good idea of areas I could go to hit multiple points of interest!
• Make sure all your legal documents are valid. Passports, visas, licenses, etc. Make sure you know what documents you need to enter that country. Also bring a photocopy of those documents just in case something happens to the original.
• Get travel insurance. It's cheap and easy to get. And if something goes wrong, you'll be completely covered to be flown back home.
• Do what you can to keep yourself safe. You can buy personal safety items or read up on self defensive measures to take while traveling. I have this little siren doorstop, so if anyone tries to come into my hotel room, it not only blocks the door from opening but also emits a 120db siren to scare anyone off.
Tumblr media
And it works *very well*. I nearly deafened myself when testing it XD
• Always be alert and aware of your surroundings. Tourists are easy targets for pickpockets because we're so distracted by everything (especially in big, tourist heavy cities).
• Never tell anyone that you're traveling alone. Book your hotel room for 2 people (its the same price as single rooms anyway). And give your hotel info to someone back home that you trust so they can know where you'll be.
• Trust your gut instinct too. If you're getting bad vibes off someone, just walk away and distance yourself from them.
• Don't be afraid to try new things! New foods, music, dancing, shows, festivals, etc. Just get out there and see things you've never seen before!
• This is kinda a personal preference one, but *avoid* tourist spots. So many people line up to take the same pics in the same tourist trap locations, waiting hours just for nothing. Instead, speak to locals and do things they recommend! Or just wander around and see what you stumble across. Touristy areas tend to have more expensive prices for everything anyway, so you'll save money going elsewhere! XD
• Allow your plans to change based on what you personally feel like doing in that moment. Don't force yourself to stick to a travel itinerary.
• Bring snacks just in case your tum craves something familiar. I usually stick to granola bars or Biscoffs since they last a while.
• If you're going somewhere that has a different language, learn the basics in that language. Knowing how to say "hello", "yes", "no", and "thank you" will help you so much! And locals tend to love seeing tourists put an effort into trying to communicate with them in their language.
• Also be patient. There will be times when there will be confusion between you and other people. That's just what happens when two different cultures meet. But don't get mad. Try calmly working thru the confusion and see if you can figure something out.
• On that same note, BE KIND. You are a guest in someone else's home. You have no right to demand things to be a specific way. Respect their rules, even if it doesn't make sense to you. Be grateful that you have this amazing opportunity that so many others may never have.
Solo traveling can be pretty intimidating. But if you plan and prepare everything well before you leave, your trip will be so much more enjoyable!
Let me know if you have any other questions about solo traveling! I want you guys to have safe and fun trips too!! ^^

“How’s work?” You asked as you helped Junmyeon remove his very stiff suit blazer.
“It’s a lot.” He huffed trying to remove his tie frustratingly.
You gently removed his hands to do it yourself. “I know, but that’s the business. I know you can. I believe in you Junmyeon.”
“All the people that we need to hire for the expansion, the rebranding… How am I going to get all this done in time?” Junmyeon pouted making eye contact with you when he was finally tie-free.

Stress is a wicked thing, taking a toll on the body, mind, soul and spirit – and how especially wretched that it would affect you, a most esteemed guest. However, the Crimson Aurora Hotel & Spa employs an equally reputable masseuse and esthetician: Jongin Kim, and, according to his very words, he wishes to help. How he plans to, though, is certainly unorthodox – and perhaps immoral; but with his expertise, such a worry is sure to melt away, your other woes with it.

CalmWriMo Day 29
[11/29/2023]
Update!
Wow, crazy that tomorrow is the last day. (0.0) So that at the very least is exciting. Otherwise today has been a little stressful, but most of that dissolved when I lost the last three hours to the beast that is being zoned while worldbuilding. (>v<) Even remembered that drinking water is a thing! So big plus there.
Progress:
2 Hour Writing Goal: ✅
Blurb: [see below]
Self Care:
Food: ✅
Hydration: ✅
Sleep: ❌ [(x.x)]
Reading: ✅
Blurb: Neocago Fashion
As stated previously: Appearances mean a lot in Neocago. In an instant clothing communicates the wearer's status, cliques or group affiliation, how dangerous they may be, and even simply how cool they are. This coupled with a booming desire for personalization has created many unique styles.
While decreasing in use and availability there is still clothing made from old world fabrics. These are most often handy downs that survived the tests of time, or at least what remains of them as patches to mend other clothing. While some new old world fabrics are still made, it is prohibitively expensive for all except for a select few. Instead most clothing and fabrics are made from nylon or polyester.
Styles:
Patchwear: More of a "pseudo-style" resulting from reusing and splicing pieces of clothing together. It is a common look in the Undercity, Junkyards, and with Nomads as a necessity because new clothing is either unavailable or usually not a higher priority than paying for food or shelter. The Uppercity has a very 'missing the point' type of high fashion that imitates this with perfectly good clothes after a few tourists felt particularly inspired following an Undercity trip.
Neo-Western: This style replicates the old western fashion using newer materials. The style's odd return is more for practical reasons, namely keeping dust common out in the Wastes and Yards off of under clothing and skin. High collars that help protect the wear's face and duster jackets are fairly common. Also for those that dare to venture out during the day a wide brimmed hat is a must.
Night Flash: This clothing came alongside the transition to a nocturnal lifestyle becoming the default. This clothing makes use of electronic lighting, reflective fabrics, and glowing materials atop a dark base to outline features or create designs. While typically the full fledged style is more common with party goers and clubs, other styles steal some tamed elements of Night Flash.
Polar-Grey: By far the most common across the Midcity and sees some use in parts of the Undercity and Uppercity. This style often has a few layers to account for cold winters as well as frequent strong winds coming off the lake. Like the name suggests this style relies on the monotony of the color grey. This is only broken by a single, typically bright, color localized to a couple small spots such as a stripe outlining the lapel or a scarf. Fake fur scarfs and detailing is sometimes incorporated. Polar-Grey is essentially the goto for business casual or streetwear.
Neo-Panasian: For a few decades before the Great Collapse there was a massive influx of Asian immigration to the US. Particularly from countries such as China, South Japan [yes, this is intentional], Korea, and Vietnam. In Chicago these people's settled closely together. In an effort to preserve and celebrate their cultural identities they made it a point to produce and wear the traditional styles of clothing from their homelands. After the Great Collapse this trend persisted, although a steep population drop resulted in a "squeeze" as these groups banded closer together to help each other survive. This caused the eventual birth of the Neo-Panasian style that blends many different traditional styles together along with incorporating some more modern trends.
Brutalist: A style that was directly inspired by the architecture of the same name. It frequently pairs darker colors with a rigid and angular design that commands the space around it in a powerful way. Like the architecture it was based on there is a lack of defining details beyond shape. It is frequently worn by higher ups of corporations for business and certain formal occasions.
Utopian: A very new style of clothing only ever used by the wealthy. It aims for a clean look with white and semi-transparent clothing. It has preference for more rounded shapes which sets it apart from the more angular Brutalist and Polar-Grey styles also frequent in the Uppercity. Inviting and calmer colors such as cyan, blue, green, and yellow are used in it's detailing along with shiny gold and silver trims. This style emphasis an artistic and futuristic approach with arches that lift away from the body among other little oddities.
Idolwear: This is the wild card of clothing. This is often worn by idols who are focused on directing attention to themselves as well as distinguishing themselves from others. While extremely diverse and in constant flux each week, there are some common themes. The two most frequent are exposed skin, which doesn't need much said, and a shoulder perch on at least one side. This shoulder perch is common to provide a place for a cam-drone to dock for both recharging on the go and to give a POV or close up camera angle. Otherwise, Idolwear takes elements from other styles or more unique individual designs.
[Oh boy... Was that a bit much? I didn't even exhaust all my notes... (0.0) Anyways and always, hope you had a lovely day, peace (^.^)v]

The Signs In Korea | Your Trip In Autumn | Will You Meet Someone?
Tumblr media
🍂 Aries is a solo traveller. Headstrong and adventurous, you end up in Seoul by yourself but quickly make new friends who show you the Korean countryside and mountains wherw you trek and take amazing photos. You may not find love, but you're still in touch with them after the trip - and there were a couple of cute people who caught your eye...
🍂 For Taurus, the brilliant colors of a Korean autumn take you to a sensual heaven. Korea is full of amazing seasonal produce inspired by the natural world so now is the perfect time to travel. From traditional tea cookies to authentic kimchi there is never a boring moment.
🍂 As a Gemini, you've never wanted to stay tied to one thing for too long. As a result, you don't just stay in Seoul but find yourself travelling the country, checking out everything from remote trails to temples to regional specialities in Busan. There's not really much time for anything else in your packed itinery - but in the end it doesn't matter. You may be on a shoestring, but you're coming back next year.
🍂 As a Cancer, you have always been connected to the home and to your fourth house. On this trip you find yourself curled uo against the autumn chill in a traditional teahouse, after which the parents of your friends invite you back foe authentic cooking and more delicious hot tea. Warmed up from the inside, you don't want to leave, and you decide to stay another month in Korea. There's still time to find love!
🍂 Being a limelight-loving Leo, you naturally have to spend the time checking out Gangnam and the most loved spots of your favourite Kpop and Kdrama stars. You take tons of photos. It's sometimes hard to imagine yourself in their shoes, but in the end it doesn't matter. That cute person in the saju cafe was looking at you for way longer than they had any right to...
🍂 For Virgo, any trip has to be practical and take comfort into account. But the hotels are sparkling and top notch, and as you spend your time exploring the city, you begin to relax. In fact, browsing through cute Korean stationary and K fashion bring out your fun loving side enough that you end up striking up a conversatio n ;)
Tumblr media
🍂 Hello Libra - you thrive in Seoul. In fact, you don't want to go back. As a sign of balance, a different culture completes you and broadens your worldview. You don't find love. However, you might find yourself instead.
🍂 Scorpio - you are the kind of person who looks at the hidden depths. As a result, Korean urban legends, mythology, and haunted places are perfect for you. You even meet another scorpio who introduces you to Korean horror and takes you to the parts of the city no tourists see. Til death do us part?
🍂 For Sagittarius, your bold and proactive attitude means you quickly get involved in thw dating scene. You also have no trouble singing karaoke with friends or just strolling in a local park. As a result, you find love - and you may even decide to stay in Seoul to see it blossom.
🍂 Earthly and traditional Capricorn has a deep sense of history. You spend your time visiting royal palaces and marvelling at historical Korean culture. Sometimes, the bright lights of Seoul shake you out of your reverie. You may not find love, but you are so involved it's a kind of romance in itself.
🍂 For Aquarius, Korea is almost like a spiritual experience. You've always been interested in the wider universe and a trip spent amongst shrines, temples, and untouched forests fulfills this deep within you. You may not find love, but you also may not need it.
🍂 Pisces, you have always been different and very dreamy. Somehow, as things come to pass, you find yourself far from the capital on the south coast, heading over to Jeju Island with a special someone. Unfortunately, life calls you back home - but you stay in a relationship. And despite the distance between you, you find it doesn't matter.

Tu Me Manques || KTH
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kim Taehyung x f.reader
Genre: Fluff, Boyfriend!Tae, Penpal!Tae
WC: 1.8k
Summary: Inspired by Layover's aesthetic, just Tae being a long distance boyfriend with 90's heartthrob vibes.
A/N- As a Tae bias, Paris screams Tae & the Pop/W/Arena photoshoot deserved a fic! 🌊🌙⭐️
---------------------------------------------
I've never been to France, I've only ever lived in the little seaport of Pohang in Gyeongsang, South Korea. Yet, I'd grown up watching all those movies depicting the beauty of Paris, listening to Lolo Zoui, Carla Bruni, Angèle, Pomme, Louane, Stromae and more. I'd begun to learn French from apps on my tiny phone screen and baked Ratatouille, all in bids to make my Parisian dream come true. But I knew given my financial situation, I'd never be able to make it true. The closest I'd ever come to it was the descriptions sent by my pen pal writing to me from Versailles. When I'd signed up for the pen pal program back in school, I'd never imagined my luck that I'd be patched with someone in my dream country. Kim Taehyung and I had been writing to each other since a decade now, from the early 2000's till now. He was a Korean descent boy who's family had moved to France while he was still a kid. He wanted to stay in touch with his Korean roots and I wanted to vicariously live in France. It worked out just perfectly, especially as we grew up and switched between both languages, our letters getting longer, photos getting added to our notes, hand pressed flowers being sent inside envelopes, souveniers being exchanged across the miles. But nothing prepared us 90's babies for the technological revolution and what that would bring. I wasn't prepared to hear his deep and dusky voice especially in contrast to his boyish charm and soft demeanor on paper. It caught me off guard as did his photo, him sending me a cheeky picture where he's trying to eat a chocolate minitature Eiffel tour. Even though he knows I love chocolate and that was what should've caught my attention, I was far too distracted by him in his leather jacket and jet black tresses.
I told myself it couldn't be true, it just couldn't be possible. I mean we'd never met!! How could I be attracted to someone that I didn't even know irl, who knew what kind of a man he really was? There was only so much letters, photos & calls could reveal. Besides we were continents away with neither planning to cross the sea between us. I just told myself that I was projecting my love for France onto him, it was just me romantizing everything to make it fit like a neatly tied gift. But this want a fairytale, it was reality and Tae and I were simply not happening.
But fate had other plans, I saw all of France through his eyes. Starting with the Palace of Versailles, which was the first place he'd video called me from- he'd made up his mind to travel the country while letting me experience it through his footsteps. He'd keep his camera on, give his commentary and share every moment of his adventures with me. And so one day, when we'd run out of new places to visit, I asked him to take me to a place that reminded him most of me. Something that he thought would resonate with me, somewhere he'd take me first if I was actually able to visit there. And I wasn't ready for what he had in mind. I imagined he'd pick one of the more obvious spots like the Louvre where we'd bonded over Monet's art work all day or the vineyards of Champagne where we'd been on call all through the night. But instead he went to the Place du Trocadéro, as the sun set behind him and the stars sprinkled across the sky. This elevated and open green space nestled behind the Eiffel tower was a less visited but still tourist friendly location. With its dancers and musicians, street food carts and fountains- it's alive and the magic of Paris is visible at its best. "I chose this place because it's so alive, you can feel the excitement and passion in the air. It reminds me of you- with your bubbly energy and buzzing enthusiasm. It's filled with songs by favorite artists, the chocolate crêpes here have your name written all over them and everytime I watch couples on a date here, families taking pictures in the light of the tower, tourists videocalling their loved ones. I just knew, I had to show this place to you, not just on camera but in reality. I promise you, someday I'll find a way to get you here. I've never seen anyone treasure this place the way you do, the locals here think it's a tourist trap and sometimes I do too. But everytime I show you around, the stars in your eyes and the small O's of your mouth remind me of the beauty that surrounds me. You're beautiful... I mean it's beautiful. Isn't it?"
And in that moment as he bit his lip realizing his mistake, that he accidentally called me pretty instead of the scenery. I couldn't help but come to a huge realisation myself. I wasn't looking at the scenery any longer, I was looking at him. Him in his cozy and furry sweater that I wanted to cling onto, him with his shoes half worn knowing that he hated wearing footwear even when he knew he'd be walking all day, him with his large fingers easily gripping the phone even as he was being pushed through the crowd, him with his nervous laughter as his tipsy self slipped secrets he otherwise wouldn't share. What mattered to me wasn't the shine that shone behind him but the sparkle in his eyes. Even though France was and would always be my first love, I had fallen in love once again. And this time, I could tell it was stronger than before because even though I was visiting the most gorgeous place in sight, as he'd rightly described- I was consumed by him. I was in love not with the city of romance but with the man who'd introduced me to it.
"Tu me manques." I told him, knowing that he'd know what I meant. French was known as Aphrodite's chosen language for a reason. It was so much more than just me saying, I miss you like what the words translated to English or Korean meant. It was me telling him that "he was missing from me, that he was a part of my body, something that was integral to my existence, like the only way I'd be whole was if he was here next to me." And that's why this one phrase was more powerful than any amount of I love yous said in any other tongue and I knew he understood that. Because in that moment, I could see his eyes tear up as his boxy smile graced his face and he leaned forward to press his lips against the phone screen. Sending me a kiss, across the world as the winds in the sky and the glowing moon above us, passed on his love to me.
THE END. 🌊🌙⭐️

Picture a Victorian styled home sitting on a hill that is surrounded by thick forest. The trees are mostly dead, but they hold strong and cast creepy shadows during the night. The forest butts up right along the edge of a town that holds no more than a few hundred people. Everyone knows, everyone. That kind of town. It’s a big tourist spot in the fall due to the history that surrounds the home on the hill. Hell, they even have a museum and store front dedicated to the house on the hill. The Lim Manor, it’s called.
The story is that back in the day, in the late 1800’s there was a family of three that hired the Wangs to act on their behalf. The Wangs were well known merchants that went all over the world in search of the best goods. The Wang’s found the little town of what was then called Linemell and they thought the hilltop surrounded by a beautiful forest would suit their patron’s well. Wang Yan was the head of the Wangs and he commissioned the best builders in the town to build Lim's new home.
The manor was built and commissioned through the capable hands of the Mins and Jeons. The wood and furniture for the home was all imported from somewhere overseas. Extravagant. Luxurious. Opulent. These were the words used to describe the Lim Manor in its completion. Wang Yan was tired at the end of the Manor’s completion; he had spent a lot of energy in making sure that everything would be to his patron’s liking. His last act before he stepped down and handed the reins over to his eldest son, Wuhan, was to send word to the Lims that their new home was ready.
The Lim's left their home in South Korea and sailed across the seas to a whole new world.
Tumblr media
The Lim's were a family of three brothers. They weren’t very active during the day, mostly coming out during dreary weather with thick clouds. They were all handsome, unnaturally so, some of the townspeople would say. They dressed in rich attire, lace, silks, velvet and leather. The jewels that adored their fingers, wrists, neck and ears were beyond anyone's wildest dreams. Just a single ring could feed the whole town for months.
Jinyoung the youngest, was tall and thin with a strong jawline, plush lip and dark eyes that seemingly mimicked the night sky. His onyx hair was cut close to his head and was worn off his forehead or worn down hiding his eyes. He was often found in the town's bookstore or out at his estate’s stable with the horses.
Jaebeom was the middle sibling and also the shortest of the three brothers. Not much was known about him. He was of a slender build with wide shoulders and pale hands. His hair was fairly long for the brothers’ style. It came to his chin in thick dark waves of black silk. His face was fuller, almost soft looking if it wasn’t for his deep sea black eyes. In a certain light they resembled the very depths of one’s soul. Or so that was the rumor around town since the middle brother wasn’t seen often. Some say that he was sickly and whatever ailed him was the reason that the Lim's moved to town.
Mark the eldest, was someone out of a dream. Tall and slender with a face chiseled by the Gods. His eyes were a deep brown with thick black lashes and even darker inky black hair that was cut short and close to his head. He had a mole on his upper lip that was the talk of the town. Many young bachelors and bachelorette would like to express their love for it with their touch. Mark was often hidden away in the branches of the orchards that lined the back of their estate or seen sitting in the window on the highest floor.
Tumblr media
The Jeons and Mins are one in the same. You cannot have one without the other. Their bloodlines date back to ancient times where they fended off great beasts together and stood side by side during war. The families youngest are Min Yoongi and Jeon Jungkook, complete opposite but the best of companions. Yoongi is four years older than Jungkook, but often the age is confused. Jungkook is a tall young man with a strong physique, slim waist, large brown eyes that have yet to lose their childlike wonder and black hair that hangs around his chin.
Yoongi on the other hand is of average height with a softer body. Slender legs, wide shoulders and a slightly thicker waist than Jungkook’s. His hair is blonde, a trait passed down from his mother’s side and touches just above his shoulders in soft waves. His facial structure is soft. Deep set brown angler eyes that call a fierce kitten to mind, a cute button nose, squishy cheeks and the plushiest lips that a man can have.
As the youngest, they take no part in the family business. They act as the occasional messenger for the business but that is all. Their days are spent in the comfort of their homes helping their mother’s keep the space tidy or stealing a moment of time down at the lake for a quick dip. The market is a sure place to find the young duo, hands laced together as they stroll from stall to stall to inquire about goods.
Their life is theirs with a marriage proposal thrown in between that each young man has denied in turn. Their fathers’ find humor in their taste in partners while their mothers’ scold them for their rejections. They fear that the youngest of the families will reject the whole world and never settle down.
Yoongi and Jungkook care not for the idea of marriage just yet. So far all those who have shown interest, have made it known that their eyes are on the family business. Something that doesn’t sit well with either young man. Jungkook would like to pursue the arts, he is quite skilled with paints; Yoongi on the other side of the same coin would like to focus on music, he is fond of the piano and enjoys performing for his family and friends.

june 25, 2021 7:00 p.m. henry's house
[henry] soobin and i planned a regular fun trip to korea for late august. we thought it was going to be fine, but randomly, she has to go to a wedding in new york right during that week, and it’s not one she can miss. she got that news maybe three days after i happened to mention that i wanted to ask you to go on a trip again…
[grant] henry, oh my god.
[henry] she is not going to be able to go and we already paid and we’ve already been to korea once this year for my grandma’s birthday, so she suggested i just keep the booking and offer it to you.
[grant] if we do that, i am paying you back for half of it.
[henry] good, great, that is fine, and that’s what i anticipated.
[grant] just give me some time and i'll let you know.
[grant] i won’t be spending a lot with my family trip since, you know, i have a million relatives who always house and feed us, but i still need to calculate that before i know if i can swing another trip financially, and then, obviously, i have to know how much this one would be.
[grant] i'm paying so much money for my medication now that päivi’s insurance doesn’t cover me. the cost is so batshit ridiculous. all my money almost has to go towards it now and i haven't had my own income in a while.
[henry] i'll check the info later. i can't remember how much i paid for the whole ticket and hotel shebang. anyway, it’s from the 16th to the 27th of august, just so you know.
[grant] i am going to be working, though, at colm’s place, so that might also make it feasible. give me a few days on that, too, to get in there and see how much money i can reasonably make.
[henry] there’s plenty of time, so don’t rush. and if it’s a no, then i'll just give the flights to my parents, and maybe you and i can find something else to do. there’s lots of inexpensive places in america to visit. or canada. i mean, we literally grew up in a town split in half across the border.
[grant] well, i'd be really ecstatic to see korea. i've never been. you’ve been to ireland with us, like, twice, so it’d be nice to do it the other way around.
[henry] i would like for you to come. i think you’d like it. there’s so many places i could show you around. for one, you can see the place i lived a long, long time ago when i was a tiny child.
[henry] there’s all the big tourist favorites, of course, besides the regular old places i go, but i know you value the very human aspects of traveling, so the regular places would be fun.
[grant] that’s true. i've done a lot of traveling, for work or otherwise, and the best moments are the ones off the beaten path. i value the anthony bourdain approach.
[henry] again, no pressure and no rush, but feel free to also research online and see if there’s anything you want to do there. i could give you my list, but you should look. there’s so much stuff i'm not thinking of, especially the typical tourist spots, because i either have always avoided them or have been so many times that i don’t remember something is special.

You move slowly as you start to repack your luggage for the trip back home. You’re a little tired from the dinner party last night which is why you’re taking your time with the task, but in reality it’s because the whole thing is kind of saddening. As you place your clothes in your packing cubes, you set aside the clothes you plan to wear on the plane tomorrow morning.
Jisung knocks on the doorframe, peeking his head in. “Need any help?”
You give him a small chuckle, looking up at him from your spot in the middle of the floor. “You don’t have to knock, it’s your room.”
Jisung enters the room and sits on his bed, moving aside the clothes you laid out. “Well, what if you were indecent or something?” The tiniest smirk plays at his lips, finding his own joke oh-so-hilarious.
With a deadpan stare, you playfully ball up a shirt and throw it at him, “Oh, like you haven’t seen me naked before.”
Jisung laughs and catches the shirt, folding it neatly and setting it aside soon after.  “How are you feeling?”
“I don’t know,” Your eyes drift back to your suitcase and your hands go back to folding items to pack. “I mean, I do know. I don’t wanna go back home.” You chuckle sadly, shrugging your shoulders in defeat.
Jisung looks at you with a small smile on his lips. He doesn’t want you to go home either; he wants to say, ‘then don’t’, but he doesn’t need to. You know that's what he wants to say, and you both know that he can’t say it. Instead, he leans forward, placing his elbows on his knees, bringing himself closer to you. “Well, you’re still here, so let’s not waste it, yeah?”
You match his smile and nod your head, placing your hands in your lap. “Okay, yeah. Can we…” You pause and think about your bucket list. When you remember a specific to-do list item, your smile wides and you release a small giggle. “Can we find a fountain to make a wish at?”
“Yes, let's make a date of it.” Jisung places his hands on his thighs, bracing himself as he pushes himself off the bed. He takes a step towards your sitting form and extends both hands to you, palms up.
You place your hands in his with a large smile on your face, eyes soft as you look up at him. Your head had been swimming in circles, thinking about your flight home, leaving Korea behind, leaving Jisung behind, but now, you’re relieved, choosing to only worry and think about today, not the flight home tomorrow morning.
Tumblr media
“So,” You pause your speech to squeeze Jisung’s hand, fingers laced with yours. The date was planned loosely, both of you decided to take advantage of the beautiful day, opting to set aside the car for a nice walk.
You wore a flowy white midi-skirt with a slightly oversized graphic white tee-shirt, tied to be cropped and cinched at your waist. Your hair up in a messy bun with a claw clip, a canvas tote bag hanging on your shoulder carrying not only your essentials, but a light brown knit cardigan just in case it got cold in the evening.
Jisung wore an open, unbuttoned khaki collared shirt, a loose white tee underneath, with black linen slacks, cuffed at the ankles. A simple casio watch on his wrist, a silver ring on his index finger, and a small pendant-free chain around his neck.  Both of you had on some white old beaten up sneakers, deciding to err on the side of comfort for the last day.
“So?” Jisung starts to swing your linked hands together, looking at you with a gummy bright smile.
“Where are we going?” You both come to a stop at the corner of the street, a small crowd of people joining you to wait for the pedestrian light.
“Well, after food, I wanted to take you to the aquarium,” Jisung shrugs nonchalantly, as if there was no pressure into the situation. You, however, knew how much Jisung loved animals through the little facts he would sprinkle into your conversations, the books on his shelf about animals, the small wolf figurine on his desk. Maybe it didn’t mean much to him, but you were thankful that he was willing to share this time and hobby with you.
When you and Jisung finish at a small Japanese restaurant, you quickly find that this place was one of his favorite places to visit. The owner knew him by name and  not only did Jisung have a regular order that the waitress knew by heart, but even gave the both of you the opportunity to try out an off the menu item that they were working on. Needless to say, you both left with full stomachs and happy grins on your faces.
“Do you take all of your lady friends there, Jisung?” You rest your hand on your full and round stomach, savoring the Japanese curry bowl you had.
Jisung laughs and gives you a raised brow, “What? No, of course not. Why would you think that?”
You eye him with a playful smile, “Well, seemed like they were really talking you up in there.”
Jisung laughs louder, taking a step close to you and nudging your shoulder gently. “Maybe because I’m just a nice customer!”
“M’hmm,” You link your arm with Jisung’s, letting him lead you to your next destination. You’re not sure what comes over you, maybe it’s a slight bit of hypothetical jealousy thinking about the possibility of Jisung bringing his past love interests to the places he’s shown you. “Have you had a lot of girlfriends?”
Jisung chuckles, rolling his eyes while he looks ahead. “No. Not at all.”
You almost scoff, “You don’t have to lie, Ji.”
“I’m not lying. I know I seem like it, but I don’t actually have the best luck in the dating department.” Jisung bites the inside of his cheek, a little ashamed.
“What? Really?” That was hard for you to believe, especially since from what Jisung has shown you, he’s been an extremely sweet, smooth, empathetic person. There’s no way people weren’t waiting in line to date him.
“Yeah,” He pauses, lips forming a thin line as he tries his best to explain, “A lot of the flirting is just surface level. You tell them what a person wants to hear, inflate their ego a little bit.”
You swat at his arm gently.
He laughs and rubs at the sore spot dramatically. “But I don’t usually connect with people beyond that. Sharing feelings, holding hands, kissing… It all makes me nervous. I start to get in my head.”
”You don’t seem to have any problems doing that stuff with me.”
“Well,” Jisung unlinks your arms and instead, holds your hand, bringing the inside of your wrist up to his lips for a chaste yet sweet kiss, “That’s because you’re different.”
You try to fight the blush that forms on your cheeks; the bubbly feeling in the pit of your stomach that slowly climbs up into your lungs to make you feel like you’re floating on air. You know what that feeling is and you know that feeling isn't productive, not when you’ll be on a plane home tomorrow morning.
In an attempt to change the subject, you look around to find that you were in front of a convenience store with little machines for kids to either win or buy toys from. You pointed at one specifically, filled with small plastic containers with red caps on them, little prizes or toys inside. “Look, Ji. I used to bother my mom for money to get a ring from these vending machines when I was younger.”
You crouch down, balancing yourself on the balls of your foot, trying to get a better look at the toys inside.
Jisung watches over you with a smile on his lips. He shoves his hand in his pocket, finding some loose change from the lunch you shared. Crouching next to you, he places a coin into the slot, hand on the knob. He’s about to turn it, but pauses to look at you, “Which one do you want?”
You reposition yourself multiple times, trying to get a real good look at the variety of rings. There are a couple of heart shaped ones, mostly in pink or red, the usual ones that mimic large oval and teardrop shaped diamonds and gemstones, but there are also fun ones in the shape of stars and shells, even a rainbow.  Then, you point at one in particular. “I really like that one!”
Jisung looks at it and nods, “Okay, here’s hoping that’s the one we get.” With a turn of the knob and a cranking sound, the coin disappears and out of the machine comes a plastic capsule. Jisung maneuvers both himself and his hands to cover up the ring inside, causing you to laugh and shake his shoulders gently. Dramatically, Jisung gasps, taking a peek at the toy ring.
“What? Which one did you get!”
You watch Jisung’s face drop, his brows furrowing, creating a crease on his forehead. He frowns, lips in a tight line. “Show me, Ji!” You don’t really care if it was the one you wanted, all of the rings were really cute, you just wanted to know which one he got.
Playfully, you poke at his side, trying to get him to turn around to show you. He tsks at you which makes you a little upset. You stand up and cross your arms, tapping your foot. “Han Jisung!”
Jisung laughs and rolls his eyes at your impatience. He turns around to face you, this time on one knee. He laughs nervously, taking the ring in his hand, showing it to you. “Y/N, Marry me?”
“W–what?” You’re completely taken aback. The confusion on your face is so apparent that Jisung’s nervous laugh turns into a full grown fit, laughing from his chest with his head thrown back. Your palms start to sweat as he continues to laugh, you uncross your arms and subconsciously, you rub your hands on the front of your skirt.
With a shrug of his shoulders, he sticks his hand out with the ring towards you. “Seungmin said we should get married so you could stay in Korea with us.”
‘Me’, he means. He wants you to stay with him. Staying with Seungmin and the rest of them was just a fun addition.
“And it's the ring you wanted, so.. Maybe it’s a sign.”
You finally look at the ring and it is the ring you were hoping to get. It was a plastic light blue gem in the shape of a bear, the cuts in it making it shine brilliantly as if it were made from a real gem stone. In the center around its neck was a small chrome pink ribbon.
Jisung holds his hand out towards you and you place your left hand in his, allowing him to slip the ring on to your ring finger. He struggles gliding it on and you laugh together when it is sufficiently stuck on the knuckle. Jisung takes it off your finger and resizes it, pulling apart the shiny plastic ring ever so slightly. “Good thing these are adjustable.” He slips it back on to your finger and it's a perfect fit.
You admire the adorable little ring on your hand, smiling to yourself at how ridiculous it all was while Jisung stands back up from his knee, dusting himself off. Your eyes dart back to the stand of toy vending machines, looking for a ring for him as well. “I got to get you one, too!”
Jisung raises a brow, “No you don’t. Men don’t get engagement rings.”
You scan the different machines, getting a good look of the different toys inside. Some had stickers, others had toy cars and little baby figurines. When you find one, you point at it, turning to Jisung behind you, “You’re telling me you don’t want this really cool dinosaur ring?”
Jisung quickly goes to the machine you’re at, looking over the options. He nods his head once, as if this is the most serious matter to him. “Okay. You’ve won me over. I want an engagement ring, too.”
You laugh and hold out your hand to him, looking for another coin. Jisung’s eyes go wide, appalled. “I’m paying for my engagement ring?”
“Do you want the dinosaur ring or not?”
With a melodramatic huff, Jisung shoves his hand in his pocket and takes out a coin, placing it in your open palm. You put the coin into the machine and crank the knob,a clicking-like sound coming from the machine until the ring comes out. You uncap the small plastic capsule and show him the ring inside, a large green squishy dinosaur with a long neck and tail on a plastic metal adjustable ring. “It’s a brontosaurus!”
Jisung laughs at you and takes the ring, placing it on his finger. “It’s actually not a brontosaurus.”
You take his hand as he shows it to you, staring at the dinosaur. “It’s not?”
With a shake of his head, he adjusts the ring so that the green dinosaur sits straight, “Those don’t technically exist. Well, they exist, but that’s not what they’re called. They’re called Apatosauruses.”
When Jisung flips his hand over in the air so that his palm faces downward towards the ground, fingers stretched out, you bring your hand up to his, placing your palms together. Easily, Jisung closes his fingers around your hand and leads you forward. With a beaming smile, you look up at him, squirting your eyes a little in curiosity, “Jisung, tell me; were you a dinosaur boy growing up?”
“Oh yes, absolutely. Definitely more dinosaurs than cars.”
After a bit of walking, you find yourselves in a busier area, shops and fun cafe’s lining the wider street. One in particular captures your eye. “Jisung, you know how couples have photoshoots?”
Jisung nods his eyes, taking his phone out to look at the directions to the aquarium again. “Yeah, they’re kinda’ corny, to be honest.”
“Oh,” You try to fight the pout forming on your lips.
When Jisung looks up from his phone, he notices the change in your mood, eyebrows shooting up in panic. “I – I mean, they’re not something I would do normally! I just feel super awkward taking photos, that’s all.”
“Well,” You tug his hand and his attention towards the photobooth studio down the street, “Would you at least humor me for today?”
“For you?” Jisung leads the way to the shop, “Anything.” He laughs a little as you make your way through the doors, “And it’s only a photo booth. We’ve done this before, I thought you were going to make me stand in front of someone with a camera!”
You laugh at his ramblings, imagining how nervous and awkward Jisung would be in front of a professional camera. Inside, you’re elated as Jisung talks to the worker. Looking around, you notice that everything is pretty self-serving. There were a couple of very large photo booths with a plain backdrop and shelves and buckets filled with accessories.
When Jisung comes back, he guides you to the booth all the way in the back. You slip in with him behind the light blue curtain and you quickly scan through the different templates and frames of the picture strips. Jisung stops you at a certain one, “What about ‘2Gether 4 Ever’?”
You look up to find that Jisung’s head is hovering right over your shoulder and the proximity is both comfortable and nerve-racking; comfortable because at this point in your… whatever-it-was with Jisung, his whole presence is something you seek, something you expect – never too far away –, but nerve-racking,  because it felt like today, every single word, every movement, gesture, moment, is hanging over your heads, everything was comicotragic.
Is the universe playing a sick prank on you?
So much for focusing on just today. You couldn’t escape it. You couldn’t escape tomorrow.
Jisung’s eyes mimic your own, a little bit of mirth, hope, but also that tinge of sadness.
“Yeah,” You speak before you can even process what you’re saying, “That’s perfect.”
Before you’re ready, the large countdown on the preview screen in front of you starts and you panic, opting for your default pose which consists of a peace sign by your face. Jisung, behind you, has a similar pose: He leans over you slightly, placing a peace sign above your head with one hand, the other hand poking at the side of your cheek. It snaps the picture.
You smile brightly, turning your head around to him. Quickly, he loops an arm around your waist, bringing you close to him, leaning his weight into you. As you lean to the side under his weight, he holds you up. “Hey, we’re engaged, you gotta show off your ring!”
You laugh and do so, bringing your hand forward into the view of the camera. Jisung mimics you and the camera snaps again, taking a picture of Jisung and you close together with your shiny toy bear ring and his rubber dinosaur ring in front of you.
The screen blinks in front of you and the countdown for the next picture starts. “Two more!”
“Come here,” Jisung turns you around, and places his hands at the small of your back, pulling you close.
You push your palms against his chest, trying to create space but it’s no use. “Jisung?”
The picture snaps and the automated voice of the photo booth lets you know that it’s going to take the final picture.
Jisung’s lips tug into a smirk as he leans in closer, “Just kiss me. Please?”
Truthfully, you’re not into public displays of affection like this. Holding hands and hugging was probably the extent of affection you were okay to show to the world. Jisung, however, is not afraid to show how much he cares about you.
“What, I can’t kiss my fiancee?” He repeats with a small laugh.
One look at him with that sly smirk on his face was all it took for you to tilt your head up to meet his lips with yours. Your hands go to his jaw, giving you more purchase for the kiss. Even after the camera takes the final picture and it starts to print out the photo strips, you're left in the tender kiss.
When you finally pull a part, you’re breathless.
Both you and Jisung are all smiles, pressing your foreheads together. You hold his gaze for just a moment longer before you tear away from him to get her the photo strip. With a bite of his lip, he follows after you.
“Ji, these are cute!” You show him the photo strips, that smile still plastered on your face.
He takes them in his hand, tracing a finger of the last pose. “Oh, honey. We already look happily married.” He brings you into his side by your waist and your grin grows wider.
“We do, don’t we?” You take the pictures and place them into your tri-fold wallet to keep it safe from wrinkles and creases before tossing it into your bag.
Tumblr media
At the aquarium, you and Jisung took your time going through all of the many exhibits, from bay aquatics to tropical and reef fish. Jisung would sprinkle in some interesting facts that he learned from watching an animal documentary or even from the lid of a snapple bottle.
The whole time, you held hands. When he would point to things close, he would use his free hand to place the pad of his finger gently on the glass – he told you it was inhumane to tap on it, ‘Have you seen Finding Nemo?’, he said – whenever he would point out something in a tank. When he would notice something across the room or hall, he would point with the hand that held yours, index finger pointed in that direction with the rest of his fingers wrapped snugly around your hand.
Now, you’re in the main hall, looking at a map of the place on the wall. “Jisung, I want to see the jellyfish.”
“Jellyfish, got it.” Jisung’s finger grazes over the map from your current location to the back of the building. He nods to himself and then points with your hands together towards the right maze of hallways. “That way.” While the both of you walk towards the jellyfish exhibit, Jisung’s eyes stay on the map just a little bit longer, committing the next place that you would go to memory.
The exhibit hall you walk into is dimly lit, the low light coming from the tanks of jellyfish itself, the soft sound of waves crashing playing over the speakers in the room. Jisung guides you to the first tank, recessed into the wall. Your eyes go wide, filled with wonder. While other aquarium visitors would stop and observe the tank and leave shortly after, Jisung and you stayed longer.
“Do you like jellyfish?” Jisung’s voice is low, but loud enough for you to hear over the calming waves.
“I do, they look so… easygoing.” You go to the next window, watching the plump jellyfish swim across the tank.
Jisung moves his finger along the glass with it. “These are the Japanese Sea Nettle jellyfish.”  His finger traces the long tentacles, dragging it down the glass. The orange color of the jellyfish is a beautiful contrast against the blue of the tank. The corners of his lips tug upwards in a smile so wide it reaches his eyes, “Jellyfish are 95% water, that’s why they look so different out of it. I also think that’s why they’re super interesting to watch swim. They look like they’re floating.” He laughs nervously at himself, “Well, I mean they are floating.”
You laugh with him, tugging him towards the large cylindrical tank in the middle of the room, “No, I get it. It looks like they’re weightless.”
The tank in the middle goes from floor to ceiling and is filled with lots of jellyfish, a type that’s smaller than the Japanese Sea Nettle. The lights at the bottom of the tank change color every so often, the current purple hue casting a purple glow on the nearly translucent jellyfish.
You stand in front of the tank, watching as the glow shifts into a cool blue. “These are my favorite ones.”
Jisung watches your face and admires the way you look at the jellyfish. Your eyes are wide, lips in a small smile, head tilted to the side. The jellyfish and tank are reflected in your eyes and as the light changes to red, he has to tear his eyes away from you. In a quick recovery, he clears his throat. “These are moon jellyfish. They’ve got a really round and big bell compared to their tentacles.”
You glance at Jisung briefly from the corner of your eyes and notice how his eyes move as they trace the jellyfish’ movement. “Do you know why I like jellyfish so much?”
Of course he didn’t, but he doesn’t say anything and instead waits for you to answer.
“I just imagine their life of floating in the ocean, going in whatever way the water takes them. I’m a little jealous of them, really.”
Jisung looks back at you and pulls you to him. He settles you in front of him as he wraps his arms around your shoulders, pressing his cheek against the side of your head.
Once you’ve stayed for a full cycle of the color changes, Jisung whispers against your ear, “Y/N, are you ready to go to the next exhibit?”
You nod and he retakes your hand in his and leads you out into the hallway.
“These are some of my favorite animals here.” Jisung  walks backwards as he leads you into the room.
The smell is really strong and frankly kind of stinky, but you get over it once you realize that you’re looking at penguins through a glass. There’s many of them, some diving in the water, others just standing on the platform meant to resemble a rock with their flipper-like wings at their sides.
You’re not as close as you want to be, children sitting in rows in front of the large glass window. Soon, the kids stand, getting closer just as the penguins crowd around the door to the exhibit where you assume the employees enter. Sure enough, someone comes through the door with a large bucket of fish. You clap and laugh along with the other visitors as the penguins gather around for their meal time.
You take a seat on a bench, still watching the penguins. The kids file out, someone on the intercom attracting their attention when they announced a tidal pool exhibit where they could touch starfish.
As the penguins finish their meals and the employee leaves through the door, the penguins go about their regular business. You notice two standing close to each other on the rock, one nudging the other with its head.
“Those two remind me of us.” You point at the two birds before zooming in with the camera of your phone and taking a picture. After a couple of pictures, you place your phone on your lap. “Here’s my animal fact,” You giggle. Not only is the possibility of Jisung’s habits rubbing off on you amusing, but you’re a little excited that you could share a fact with him for once. “Many different species of penguins will only have one mate for the rest of their life.” You take his hand back in yours again, the brief moment without it made you miss the warmth he radiated.
Jisung stares forward, though his eyes look a little distant. His smile is lopsided, a reflection of how bittersweet this whole day is.
He doesn’t tell you, but he already knew that fact. He wonders silently if you’ve heard the story about a group of three penguins. Two were mates and the third was a female penguin attracted to the male penguin. Eventually, the male’s mate passes away and although that made him available to love the third penguin, he passed away from the grief of losing his soulmate.
“Y/N, do you know what inyeon is?”
You turn your head to him and notice his far-off stare. “No, what is inyeon?” You speak slowly, doing your best to imitate the way he said the word, clearly a foreign word to you, never once hearing of it or speaking it.
Absent-mindedly, he runs a thumb over your knuckles. “It’s silly, really. Koreans believe in the idea that certain people are meant for each other, but that it could take thousands of lifetimes to get it right. Maybe the penguins got it right this time, like this is the lifetime where everything aligned.”
“Hm,” You take a beat to reflect on his words. “Like fate. Destiny.” The more you think about it, the more you start to wonder: Who was that person for you? Would you know if that lifetime was the lifetime? Could this be your lifetime?
As you lean your head on Jisung’s shoulder, your phone vibrates in your lap. One glance at the notification of your flight convinces you that it’s not.
Tumblr media
The night air is a little crisp when you walk out, your cardigan in your bag completely forgotten. Instead, Jisung’s body heat keeps you warm as you latch onto his arm. The pace of your walk  is set slow, the lights from the lamps on the street and from inside buildings shining through their windows illuminating your walk.
“Where do you want to be in five years?” Jisung’s voice cuts through the bustling of the streets, the soft mumble of people talking on their own walks with friends and family.
The question catches you off guard. Where did you see yourself? Previously, you’d probably see yourself just doing what you always did: wake up, go to work, put just enough effort to maintain relationships with your friends, see your dad once a week. You look at Jisung. He smiles at you, no sign of judgment that would follow. That gives you enough assurance and courage to even just imagine something more for yourself.
That’s what Jisung has given to you.
So you let out a sigh and it’s not of frustration. No, instead it’s a sigh that sheds off your own fears and judgemental attitude about wanting more than what you previously had for yourself.
“I want to be happy.” Without knowing, you squeeze Jisung’s hand. “Maybe promoted at my job or at a better one.” You chuckle at the idea, instead of being behind a computer screen the whole time, maybe something more client facing, interacting with people. “A better relationship with my friends. More dinner parties with Robin and the girls.” You stop at an intersection and look up at Jisung. “What about you?”
Jisung smiles brightly. He’s thought about the question a lot and it’s something you admire about him. Through the challenges that life has thrown him, he was able to come out of it as a bright person. You smile back at him when you think about how his friend Chan would be happy to see him now.
“Happy. Successful.” He laughs at how arrogant he comes off with that sentence. “I hope in five years I’m able to share my music with people”
You interrupt him, excited while you step off the curb into the street when it is safe. “You will! You need to let the world hear your music, Jisung. It’s incredible.”
Jisung shrugs his shoulders modestly. “I would love to see Loud Mouths continuing to do well. I mean, we’re doing great now, but imagine another Loud Mouths somewhere outside of Korea. We’ve been talking about partnerships and collaborations with other restaurants, like showcasing baked goods from Seungmin’s cafe during our brunch hours. I hope the place gets big enough that we can help smaller local companies out like that.”
Jisung stops and that’s when you realize that you’re in front of a fountain. The water trickling sounds calm and serene in the middle of the city. The lights on the ground and in the fountain showcase the area beautifully.
He comes up behind you and takes a coin out from his pocket, similar to how he did earlier in the day. He places it in front of your face and you take it into your palm, squeezing it with one hand over the other tightly. “Go ahead, Toss a Coin and Make a Wish.”
As you close your eyes, Jisung steps back to give you the space and breathing room. You think about all the major events that have happened in your life; both the good and the bad. You’re reminded of both of your parents. You recall your mother’s beautiful smile, her radiant energy and how truly, all she wanted for you was to be safe and happy. Something that your dad always wishes for you. It took awhile for your relationship with your dad to get to where it is now, and you have no doubt that it will continue to get better. That same sentiment is shared by Robin – who you cannot thank enough for being so patient and having so much faith in you, even when you probably weren’t the best friend you could be.
Safe and happy. You wonder for a moment what that looks like.
A smile stretches your lips.
Safe and happy looks like right now. This day. With Jisung.
You open your eyes and toss the coin into the fountain. In lands with a plop and a small splash.
You turn your body towards Jisung who on cue, makes his way back to be by your side, strong arms engulfing you in a warm and tight embrace. You lean into him as he cradles your body against him, gently rocking the both of you back and forth.
“I wished th–”
Jisung pulls apart, eyes wide in horror. “No, you can’t tell me. It won’t come true if you do.”
When Jisung looks down into your eyes, he notices the glassy reflection. Your eyes start to sting a little as tears start to pool. However; they don’t fall, a poetic testament to the balance that is how you’re feeling right now: both untroubled in his embrace and out of sorts with tomorrow’s departure from this dream land that you’ve lived for the past two weeks.
Jisung is right. Wishes don’t come true if you speak them out loud, but perhaps that’s why you say it. Your wish is so outlandish, so selfish, so fantasied that it didn’t matter if you said it loud.
“I wished that this day would never end.”
