so one of my cats, a tortoise — so a lot of tortie-tude — is a TNR (i’m TNR certified) that had to stay longer with me for recovery because she needed surgery beyond a spay and then didn’t want to leave because — warmth and food.
but she was super feral, deeply feral. hated me and my boyfriend at the time. she was already two and was born on the street so i never expected her to get socialized. she sliced me up and hissed so often but eventually came out of her shell.
however, she was super skittish. hid for a while once she was out of the crate in a separate room and when she graduated to gen pop was still a scaredy girl. but over the last two years has made progress.
she’s never been a lap cat, but in the last year has gotten much better at guests coming over and in the last couple months has even started approaching them for pets! and tonight she hopped on the couch and crawled right into the nook between my tummy and the cushions and snuggled which she has NEVER done. i’m so proud of my little princess’s progress!
TORTIE TUESDAY!
Trixie is 11 months-old and sponsored by Alice Weigel. SNAP Cats rescued Trixie from Fresno, CA. Trixie is a very playful kitten! Whether it’s by herself or with another cat/kitten, Trixie’s constantly running around looking for fun. Trixie’s ataxia is moderate-to-severe, so she does fall quite a bit, but it doesn’t stop her from getting to where she wants to go, whether it’s the litter box, a warm bed, or to get yummy wet food! Trixie gets along great with other cats, but can initially be shy with people. But once she gets to know you she’s all about attention. Until she’s not. Because Trixie is, of course, a tortie with ‘tude!
If you’re interested in Trixie please fill out an adoption application at https://www.snapcats.org/adoption-process/. Thanks!

idk if this is a real fact or just one that gets repeated or not but i 100 percent believe in the theory that "tortie 'tude" is just because theyre pretty and people let prettier cats get away with more shit. the cuter the animal the worse it will be
My name is Jolene Macchiato L., I am the current ESA to @prophet-rebellion.
I am taking up the role after my older sister, @salem-theittykitty (whom I never got to meet), escaped off her harness some months ago and has not been found despite extensive searching.
Here is a little about me:
Adoption day: June 13th, 2023
Aprox. age: 2 years old
Breed: Domestic medium hair - Tortoiseshell
I am very shy, but I am acclimating to life well. I occasionally give my mom some Tortie-tude, but she takes it in a stride and loves me anyways - even though I stole her plush turtle as my own the first night home.
I am very shy and weary, but my want for affection overrides that - and people laugh at the little baby crocodile noises I make instead of a meow.
My mortal enemy however is the Sherpa bed my mom bought me, I know it's out to get me.
related to the question abt orange cats: is there anything to the assumption that torties are "bratty"? I never knew abt this myth until some vet techs commented on how mellow/sweet my tortie is. idk if she's an outlier, just old, of if this really is just a myth, haha
Okay so this??? This is absolutely true. Tortitude is a real thing. I am not joking.
The research backs up long-standing observations among veterinarians that such cats often are “difficult,” said Dr. Elizabeth Stelow, a behavioral expert in the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Her study, based on a survey of more than 1,200 cat owners, found that calicoes and torties are more likely to hiss, chase, bite, swat or scratch during interactions with humans.
She said the research suggests that the same genetics that dictate coat color may play a role in aggression, but that more study needs to be done to explore that theory.
Tortoiseshell cats tend to be more snippy, short tempered and aggressive in clinic. My first cat was a tortie and I had her for 17 years and trust me that tortitude was real.
But on that note - if we are starting to see a link with coat colour and behaviour, keep in mind that future studies may show a link between orange males and decreased aggression, which may be why most orange male cats are friendlier.
What kind of cat is your cat?? She’s so pretty and I don’t know if I’ve seen coloration like that before! Is she a tortoiseshell?
She is a tortie! And of no particular breed. (Though she has a little white patch on her chest which by some definitions makes her a calico) Her vet says she has the classic “tortie-tude.” If you wanted to find a cat similar in appearance, you’d look for a tortoiseshell domestic medium-hair.
Her only other defining physical trait is that she’s really petite for an adult even though she has a balanced diet. Along with her big eyes and fluffiness, it means people mistake her for a kitten a lot. She’s five pounds, two ounces, which is a more normal weight for a teacup breed like a Singapura or a Siamese, so it’s possible she has some mixed ancestors, or maybe she just happens to be small.
Torties and calicos have always been a very dear favorite of my mom, which is probably part of the reason I chose her.
It is so funny how when I first adopted ruby I heard all these things about “tortie tude” and I was like ok this is cute but we all know it’s silly right I mean 90% of cats in America are domestic shorthairs / alley / tabbey cats and they are essentially all the same kind of cat regardless of markings. Now I have owned her for almost a year and I am thoroughly convinced not only that tortoiseshell cats have distinct personalities but also that they are superior. Objectively the best-looking cats, first of all

How to help MomLady when she is trying new recipes:
Precious: When the refrigerator door is open, be sure to climb in to smell everything.
Mom: “Kitties do not belong in the refrigerator.”
Precious: After she pulls you out of the refrigerator, be sure to sit in such a way that she can’t close the door.
Mom: “Would you please move?”
Precious: Give her one small victory by moving, but promptly…
